LONG EXPLANATION OF AMERICAS DESTRUCTION (NEW YORK POLITICAL BABYLON OF REVELATION CHAPTER 18)(REVELATION CHAPTER 17 IS THE DESTRUCTION OF THE RELIOUS BABYLON THE VATICAN IN ROME)

JEREMIAH 51:29-32
29  And the land shall tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon,(AMERICA-NEW YORK) to make the land of Babylon (NEW YORK) a desolation without an inhabitant.
30  The mighty men of Babylon (AMERICA) have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.
31  One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to shew the king of Babylon (NEW YORK) that his city is taken at one end,
32  And that the passages are stopped,(THE WAR COMPUTERS HACKED OR EMP'D) and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.(DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO)

LEVITICUS 26:30-34 (NY IS BUILT ON A GARBAGE DUMP)
30  And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my (GODS) soul shall abhor you.
31  And I will make your cities waste,(GARBAGE-DESTROYED) and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours.
32  And I will bring the land into desolation:(RUIN) and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.
33  And I will scatter you among the heathen,(ENEMY NATIONS) and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.
34  Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.

2 KINGS 19:25
25  Hast thou not heard long ago how I have done it, and of ancient times that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heaps.

ISAIAH 34:10
10  It (NEW YORK-POLITICAL BABYLON) shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.

EZEKIEL 39:21
21 And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.

ISAIAH 18:1-2
1 Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia:
2 That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!(AMERICA)

JEREMIAH 50:11,37,12
11 Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage,(ISRAEL) because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls;(BACKSLIDERS)
37 A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed.(A NATION OF MINGLED PEOPLE)
12 Your mother (england) shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed:(MOTHER ENGLAND) behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.

JEREMIAH 51:13,7,53
13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, and the measure of thy covetousness.
7 Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.
53 Though Babylon (NEW YORK) should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD.

REVELATION 18:3,5,7
3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.

JEREMIAH 50:3,24
3 For out of the north (RUSSIA) there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and beast.
24 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon,(NEW YORK) and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the LORD. (RUSSIA A SNEAK ATTACK ON NEW YORK)

REVELATION 18:9-11,15-21
9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,(NUKE ATTACK I BELIEVE FROM RUSSIA)
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
16 And saying, Alas, alas that great city,  (NEW YORK) that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city! (NEW YORK)
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.(1 HOUR NEW YORK IS GONE)
20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon (NEW YORK) be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
THE CRAZY WORLD IS STILL TRYING TO POKE GOD IN THE EYE WITH THIS USELESS WASTE OF TIME ISRAEL HATE CEASEFIRE.he continued.“When the locals realized that the elephant population was dwindling, they gradually shifted their focus to fallow deer. Identifying the deer’s plentiful source, they began to develop the unique scrapers in the same place. This is the earliest instance of a phenomenon that later spread throughout the world,” Litov said. The Mount Gerizim location, near Nablus, is especially important because numerous fallow deer bones were found there at an ancient altar site. As Gerizim is associated with the Israelite’s entry into the Land of Israel and is considered a sacred site by the local Samaritan community, “apparently, the Mountains of Samaria gained a prominent, or even sacred status as early as the Paleolithic period, and retained their unique cultural position for hundreds of thousands of years,” the researchers said.

And here are the bounderies of the land that Israel will inherit either through war or peace or God in the future. God says its Israels land and only Israels land. They will have every inch God promised them of this land in the future.

Netanyahu's estranged brother-in-law slated to speak-Fringe far-right conference to advocate occupation and settlement of south Lebanon-Uri Tzafon organization sends eviction notices to residents of Israel’s northern neighbor by balloons and drone, says Jewish settlement is ‘only solution to conflict in north’By Sam Sokol-16 June 2024, 2:48 am

Members of a small far-right group advocating the annexation and settlement of southern Lebanon are set to hold a video conference on Monday, claiming their approach is the “only solution” to the ongoing clashes with Hezbollah amid increasingly vocal calls for Israel to invade its northern neighbor.“More assassinations in Lebanon, more firing of missiles, more alarms in the northern settlements, and no real change is visible on the horizon,” the Uri Tzafon organization said in a statement last week decrying the current escalation in the north. As an alternative, it invited the public to participate in what it is calling “the first Lebanon conference” focused on “occupation of the territory and settlement.”According to Uri Tzafon, among those set to address the conference, which will take place on Zoom, are Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s estranged brother-in-law Hagi Ben Artzi and Amiad Cohen, the head of Herut: Israel Liberty Center, the now-independent Israeli branch of the conservative Tikvah Fund.Tens of thousands of residents of towns and villages along Israel’s northern border have been forced from their homes for the past eight months due to the near-daily cross-border attacks by Hezbollah, which has been striking Israel since immediately after Hamas’s brutal October 7 terror onslaught. The attacks have persisted despite constant warnings by Israel that it could launch a war to push Hezbollah away from the border in order to restore calm, with most evacuees facing the prospect of remaining displaced for the foreseeable future. So far, the skirmishes on the border have resulted in 10 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of 17 IDF soldiers and reservists. There have also been several attacks from Syria, without any injuries.Hezbollah has named 342 members who have been killed by Israel during the ongoing skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria. In Lebanon, another 63 operatives from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and dozens of civilians have been killed.Accusing the government of “procrastinating” on its response to the crisis, members of Uri Tzafon last week said it flew drones and balloons carrying eviction notices to residents of southern Lebanon.“The announcements make it clear to the residents that they are in the Land of Israel, which belongs to the Jewish people, and that they are required to evacuate immediately. A detailed explanatory map was attached to the announcements,” the group said in a post on its Telegram channel, which has slightly over 300 followers.Explaining its ideology in another post earlier this month, the group stated that following the 1967 Six-Day War, “many settlements were built in all the extensive areas that were added” to the country but that “out of the neighboring Arab countries: Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, Lebanon is the only one that did not pay in Jewish land and settlement.” (While Lebanon joined those other countries in attacking Israel during the War of Independence in 1948, it did not take part in the Six-Day War.)“The time has come to collect the price of aggression through occupation and settlement,” the group stated.Writing in the national-religious Makor Rishon newspaper earlier this year, Doron Nir-Zvi, one of the conferences’s slated speakers, insisted that settling southern Lebanon is a national security necessity “because we have learned that where there is no settlement — sooner or later there is no army either.”“And we learned this right there, in the security zone in Lebanon, from which the IDF withdrew after about 18 years of holding it,” he wrote. This approach has been repudiated by the more mainstream right, with the Makor Rishon newspaper recently running an opinion piece arguing that “history gives us legitimacy for settlement in Judea and Samaria, but not in south Lebanon.”Responding to PLO rocket fire and other attacks, Israel invaded Lebanon in 1982, only fully withdrawing to the international border from its security zone in the south of the country in 2000. A Second Lebanon War was triggered in 2006 when Hezbollah conducted a cross-border raid, killing three IDF soldiers and taking two hostage. If the current escalation led to all-out war, analysts believe, Israel would probably bomb targets in southern Lebanon before soldiers tried to push at least 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) across the border. Hezbollah would likely use its estimated arsenal of over 150,000 rockets to target Israeli cities. In 2006, the group fired about 4,000 missiles at Israel.Israeli politicians on the right have increasingly called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to invade Lebanon, but even the most militant have so far refrained from advocating the settlement of any territories captured in a war.In January, hawkish politician Avigdor Liberman, head of the opposition Yisrael Beytenu party, called on Israel to reoccupy southern Lebanon, saying the country must “pay in territory” for damage caused by Hezbollah strikes on Israel’s northern towns. The IDF must “close off” a swath of southern Lebanon and push the terror group north of the Litani river, even if it means 50 years of occupation, Liberman said at the time, insisting that “we will not annex anything, and we will not build settlements, but we will release the territory only when there is a government in Beirut that knows how to exercise its sovereignty.”Both far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich have also called for an invasion of Lebanon.Speaking at a faction meeting of his far-right Religious Zionism party in northern Israel last month, Smotrich demanded that Netanyahu issue a “public ultimatum” that Hezbollah “completely stop firing and withdraw all forces to beyond the Litani River.”“If the ultimatum is not fully met, the IDF will launch an assault deep in Lebanese territory to defend the northern communities, including ground entry and Israeli military takeover of the southern Lebanese area,” said Smotrich.“The way to bring the [evacuated] residents home to the north is through a military decision with a devastating assault on Hezbollah and its infrastructure, and the destruction of its power.”While neither Smotrich nor Ben Gvir have advocated settling Israeli Jews in Lebanon, both have come out in favor of reestablishing Jewish settlement in Gaza, with Ben Gvir stating that he would be “very happy to live in Gaza” following the war.Ben Gvir was one of 11 government ministers and 15 coalition lawmakers who attended a mass conference in January advocating the rebuilding of Jewish Israeli settlements in the heart of the Gaza Strip.Reuters and Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.

2  I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the LORD.

PSALMS 97:3

EZEKIEL 5:15-17
15  So it shall be a reproach and a taunt, an instruction and an astonishment unto the (ARAB/MUSLIM) nations that are round about thee,(ISRAEL) when I shall execute judgments in thee in anger and in fury and in furious rebukes. I the LORD have spoken it.
16  When I shall send upon them the evil arrows of famine, which shall be for their destruction, and which I will send to destroy you: and I will increase the famine upon you, and will break your staff of bread:
17  So will I send upon you famine and evil beasts,(WHEN RUSSIA/MUSLIMS GET DEFEATED THIER BODIES GET EATEN BY BIRDS,ANIMALS IN ISRAEL MIGRATION SEASON) and they shall bereave thee; and pestilence and blood shall pass through thee;(NUKES) and I will bring the sword upon thee. I the LORD have spoken it.

REVELATION 14:18-20
18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.
19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.
20 And the winepress was trodden without the city,(JERUSALEM) and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.(200 MILES) (THE SIZE OF ISRAEL)

ISAIAH 66:15-18
15 For, behold, the LORD will come with fire,(NUKES) and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.
16 For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many.
17 They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.
18 For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory.

8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

ISAIAH 24:17-23 KJV
17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.
22 And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

18 “Son of man, wail for the multitudes of Egypt, and consign her and the daughters of the mighty nations to the depths of the earth with those who descend to the Pit:
19 Whom do you surpass in beauty? Go down and be placed with the uncircumcised! (IN HELL FIRES)
20 They will fall among those slain by the sword. The sword is appointed! Let them drag her away along with all her multitudes.
21 Mighty chiefs will speak from the midst of Sheol about Egypt and her allies: ‘They have come down and lie with the uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword.’
22 Assyria (SYRIA) is there with her whole company; her graves are all around her. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword.
23 Her graves are set in the depths of the Pit, and her company is all around her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword—those who once spread terror in the land of the living.
24 Elam (IRAN) is there with all her multitudes around her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword—those who went down uncircumcised to the earth below, who once spread their terror in the land of the living. They bear their disgrace with those who descend to the Pit.
25 Among the slain they prepare a resting place for Elam with all her hordes, with her graves all around her. All of them are uncircumcised, slain by the sword, although their terror was once spread in the land of the living. They bear their disgrace with those who descend to the Pit. They are placed among the slain.
26 Meshech and Tubal (RUSSIA) are there with all their multitudes, with their graves all around them. All of them are uncircumcised, slain by the sword, because they spread their terror in the land of the living.
27 They do not lie down with the fallen warriors of old, who went down to Sheol with their weapons of war, whose swords were placed under their heads, whose shields rested on their bones, although the terror of the mighty was once in the land of the living.
28 But you too will be shattered and lie down among the uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword.
29 Edom (JORDAN) is there, and all her kings and princes, who despite their might are laid among those slain by the sword. They lie down with the uncircumcised, with those who descend to the Pit.THIS IS RIGHT FROM 93:

DR SAMUEL DOCTORIANS VISION - SECOND ANGEL: MIDDLE EAST
Then I saw that the second angel had a sickle in his hand, such as is used in harvesting. The second angel said: "Harvest time has come in Israel and the countries all the way to Iran."I saw those countries in a few split seconds."All of Turkey and those [inaudible] countries that have refused me and refused my message of love shall hate each other and kill one another."I saw the angel raise the sickle and come down on all the Middle East countries. I saw Iran, Persia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, all of Georgia - Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, all of Asia Minor - full of blood. I saw blood all over these countries. And I saw fire; Nuclear weapons used in many of those countries. Smoke rising from everywhere. Sudden destruction – men destroying one another. I heard these words:"Israel, Oh Israel, the great judgment has come." The angel said, "The chosen, the church, the remnant, shall be purified. The Spirit of God shall prepare the children of God."I saw fires rising to heaven. The angel said: "This is the final judgment. My church shall be purified, protected and ready for the final day. Men will die from thirst. Water shall be scarce all over the Middle East. Rivers shall dry up, and men will fight for water in those countries."The angel showed me that the United Nations shall be broken in pieces because of the crisis in the Middle East. There shall be no more United Nations. The angel with the sickle shall reap the harvest.

Several injured after 'chemical agent,' fireworks caused mass exodus at Baltimore Pride event-DAVONE MORALES-Sun, June 16, 2024 at 2:43 p.m. EDT

Several people were injured as they attempted to flee a Baltimore pride event after a "chemical agent" was released and fireworks were set off in a crowd Saturday evening, according to Baltimore Police.Shortly after 8:30 p.m., officers stationed for Pride Parade festivities were informed that a possible chemical agent, potentially mace, hair spray, or another agent was released into the crowd gathered in front of the main music stage, according to police.Fireworks were also set off at the same location, causing a mass exodus that left several people injured as they attempted to flee the area.Fire officials treated those individuals and the event was subsequently shut down.Police did not share how many people were injured in the mass exodus.Authorities are still working to confirm what type of chemical agent was used and are "diligently reviewing" surveillance video to piece together the series of events. Police say they do not believe this was a targeted attack. The investigation is ongoing, according to police.Several injured after 'chemical agent,' fireworks caused mass exodus at Baltimore Pride event originally appeared on abcnews.go.com

A tragic day for the people of Israel'-11 funerals for IDF commanders, soldiers held across Israel as nation mourns-Troops killed in three separate incidents in Gaza laid to rest at funerals from north to south; Druze village of Beit Jann delays Eid al-Adha celebrations for day of mourning-By ToI Staff 16 June 2024, 11:41 pm

Eleven funerals were held across Israel on Sunday for Israel Defense Forces troops who died over the weekend in three separate incidents in fighting in the Gaza Strip. Most of the fallen soldiers laid to rest on Sunday were killed in a blast in southern Gaza’s Rafah on Saturday morning, in what marked the deadliest incident for the IDF in the Strip since January. The troops all served in the Combat Engineering Corps’ 601st Battalion. Seven of their funerals were held Sunday, and the eighth will be held on Monday.Separately, two reservists were killed Saturday fighting in northern Gaza, while another soldier succumbed to his wounds sustained in battle five days earlier, and a soldier was also killed in Rafah on Sunday.Cpt. Wassem Mahmoud, 23, a deputy commander, was laid to rest in Beit Jann, where the village delayed celebrations for the Eid al-Adha Muslim holiday to pay their respects to the fallen soldier.“It is a tragic day for the people of Israel, for the State of Israel, a great loss,” his uncle Sharif said on Sunday. “Wassem was meant to go and study, that was the last conversation I had with him. He was chosen as a representative from the battalion to go and study.”Druze leader Sheikh Muakfak Tarif eulogized Mahmoud at his funeral as a dedicated soldier who fought for his country ever since war erupted with Hamas’s October 7 massacre in southern Israel.“Wassem led his soldiers in the Combat Engineering Corps’ since the outbreak of the war, he didn’t give up, he kept his head held high, he pushed on and continued to fight even after he was wounded,” the spiritual leader said.Mahmoud was injured fighting on October 7 but returned to the battlefield without telling his family that he had been hospitalized. Instead, he chose to “stay at the front, out of complete faith and identification with the goals of the war, to protect the southern border and prevent terrible massacres like what happened in the Gaza border communities on October 7,” Tarif said.He added that the Druze community “carries the burden of service, and everything that comes with it, including the painful parts.”Sgt. Eliyahu Moshe Zimbalist, also killed in the blast in Rafah on Saturday, was laid to rest in the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem.Zimbalist, 21, moved to Israel from the United States with his family in 2005 as a toddler, and grew up in Beit Shemesh. Community members lined the streets, waving Israeli flags, to support the mourning family as they made their way to the cemetery in Jerusalem.“Eliyahu Moshe, the gibor (hero). You were supposed to be speaking at my funeral, not me speaking at yours,” his father Simmy said in English at his graveside. “You were supposed to say kaddish (the Jewish prayer for the dead), not me. This is one of the most difficult days for me and our family. There are no words to express our feelings.”According to an initial IDF probe, the troops were all killed inside a Namer armored combat engineering vehicle (CEV). There were no survivors. The soldiers had been driving in a convoy that was heading to buildings captured by the army, for the troops to rest following the overnight operation. The Namer CEV was the fifth or sixth vehicle in the convoy, and at some point, it was hit by a major explosion. It was not immediately clear from the investigation if it was a bomb planted ahead of time or if Hamas operatives had approached the vehicle with an explosive device and directly placed it on the CEV.Staff Sgt. Stanislav Kostarev, 21, also from the 601st Battalion, was laid to rest on Sunday in Ashdod. The principal of the Eva Tevet school where Kostarev studied remembered him as “quiet and introverted, always respectful of humanity, a wise and humble boy, pleasant and kind-hearted,” according to the Ynet news site. Also killed in the explosion in Rafah, Sgt. Itay Amar, 19, was laid to rest in Kochav Yair on Sunday.“Itay was a boy who would make everyone smile,” his close friend Ohad told the Walla news site. “You couldn’t be sad next to him. He’d cling to you and not let you go until he made you smile. He was really a stellar person.”A video of Amar circulated on social media on Sunday showing him dancing at an elderly care home with Liri Albag, who was kidnapped on October 7 from her IDF base and is still held by terrorists in Gaza.“Itay told us he had a friend who was kidnapped, Liri Albag, that was difficult for him. He had the honor of dying to defend the people of Israel,”  his brother Ofir told the Kan broadcaster.Staff Sgt. Oz Yeshaya Gruber, 20, from Tal Menashe, was buried in the northern West Bank settlement of Shaked on Sunday. He is survived by his parents and five siblings.Tal Menashe chairman Yuval Butzer remembered Gruber as “a hero on the battlefield who was always smiling, always with good vibes. Always happy to lend a hand.”Staff Sgt. Orr Blumovitz, 20, was laid to rest on Sunday in Pardes Hanna-Karkur. His siblings remembered him at his funeral as “a bookworm,” who read over a thousand books on Israeli history, according to the Ynet news site.“My brother, the fallen soldier was a great scholar of history, a kind of ‘bookworm’. He was a hero, I can’t comprehend that he won’t come home again,” Orr’s younger brother, Tal, was quoted as saying.Sgt. Yakir Ya’akov Levi, 21, from Hafetz Haim, was buried at the Mount Herzl military cemetery in Jerusalem. He is survived by his parents and four brothers and sisters. One of Levi’s teachers in the hesder yeshiva program, in which religious soldiers are permitted to shorten their military service and combine it with Torah studies, Rabbi Zachariah Rabinovitch, eulogized him as “a very enlightening, sociable and pleasant person. Yakir was very bright, razor sharp. The last time he came to visit the yeshiva, Yakir sat with me to study with a light in his eyes… He was very determined to win and not to see blackness, to have his head held high and to give his all.”The eighth soldier killed in the blast, Sgt. Shalom Menachem, 21, from Beit El, will be laid to rest in Jerusalem late Sunday evening. He studied in the hesder yeshiva program along with Levi and Zimbalist, and is survived by his parents and seven siblings.“The grief is unfathomable. He fell as a hero in the war for our existence. Our hearts are with his family’s heavy loss,” Beit El council head Shay Alon eulogized the fallen soldier.Cpt. (res.) Eitan Koplovich and Warrant Officer (res.) Elon Weiss, both from the IDF’s 8th Reserve Armored Brigade’s 129th Battalion, were killed by an explosive device detonated against their tank in northern Gaza over the weekend. Two other soldiers in the tank were seriously wounded by the blast.Koplovich, 28, was laid to rest on Sunday in Hoshaya, in the north of Israel. He leaves behind him his wife and baby.“Eitan was a captain in the Reserve Armored Brigade, and commanded the troops as part of the operation in which he fell,” his uncle Golan was quoted as saying by the Maariv newspaper. “He entered Gaza about a week and a half ago — after four months of fighting in the north since the outbreak of the war.”“He entered Gaza at short notice, so he didn’t time to tell us much about what he experienced. He graduated with honors from law at the Hebrew University, and was about to start interviewing for internships,” Golan said.Weiss, 49, was also laid to rest on Sunday, in the Mount Herzl military cemetery in Jerusalem. He leaves behind him seven children and one granddaughter. His commander, Lt. Col. Ariel Ben Baruch, remembered him as a “veteran and dedicated fighter… an educator in both routine times and during emergencies. You always acted patiently.”“Thank you for your bravery. I salute you on your final journey,” he added.Weiss’s brother, Asaf, eulogized him at the funeral in Jerusalem: “My brother the hero. My brother, Elon, in four months you would have been 50 years old, with seven sweet children and a sweet granddaughter. You didn’t hesitate to report for reserves duty.”Sgt. Yair Roitman, an IDF soldier who was seriously wounded last week in southern Gaza, succumbed to his wounds on Saturday and was buried in Karnei Shomron on Sunday.Roitman, 19, of the Givati Brigade’s reconnaissance unit, was wounded in a blast in a booby-trapped building on June 10, in an incident that killed four other soldiers and wounded six, including four seriously. At his funeral, his mother, Ricki, said Yair “was a perfect child — but I always felt like you were too good for this world. You were a child who never gave up, did what he wanted, and dragged everyone else toward your dreams… you were larger than life.”Staff Sgt. Tzur Abraham, 22, of the Nahal Brigade’s reconnaissance unit, from Modiin, was killed fighting in Rafah on Sunday, and was slated to be buried late Sunday night in Modiin. His parents, Shamir and Yifat, said that “the light in his eyes, the gentleness of his soul and his joy for life will accompany us forever.”A total of 311 Israeli troops have been killed during the ground offensive against Hamas and amid operations along the Gaza border. The toll includes a police officer killed in a hostage rescue mission. A civilian Defense Ministry contractor has also been killed in the Strip.Emanuel Fabian contributed to this report.

Knesset revives bill expanding Chief Rabbinate’s influence over local authorities-Previously torpedoed by Benny Gantz, legislation could cost taxpayers tens of millions of shekels annually in salaries for hundreds of new neighborhood rabbis-By Sam Sokol-16 June 2024, 9:38 pm

The Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee on Sunday announced the revival of a controversial bill that would greatly expand the influence of the Chief Rabbinate and the Religious Services Ministry in the appointment of municipal rabbis at the expense of local authorities — while at the same time also eroding the role of women in the process. If passed into law, the bill, which will be brought up for discussion in the committee on Tuesday, could cost taxpayers tens of millions of shekels annually in salaries for hundreds of new neighborhood rabbis employed by local municipalities.Following pushback by National Unity leader Benny Gantz and New Hope leader Gideon Sa’ar, the bill — which would have paved the way for hundreds of new government-funded rabbinical posts — was indefinitely put on ice by lawmakers earlier this year. Both parties objected to the bill on the grounds that it violated the terms of an agreement requiring that all coalition parties agree on any legislation advanced during wartime. However, Sa’ar left the coalition shortly after the bill was shelved, followed by Gantz last Sunday, paving the way for its reintroduction.“Netanyahu and his coalition prove once again that for them politics is above all else; the main thing is to survive,” the National Unity party said in a statement on Sunday.“Precisely now, when the north is on fire and the south is at war, the coalition decides to promote a twisted law, inflame the rift in the nation and break new records of disconnection. We prevented the promotion of the law three months ago, and we will do everything to thwart it now as well,” the statement added.According to a revised draft sent to members of the press, it appears that some efforts have been made to address critics’ concerns, including requiring the Religious Services Minister to consult with the head of local authorities before appointing representatives to election committees.Critics of the bill allege that it would benefit the Shas party by providing jobs for its apparatchiks and increasing the Orthodox Chief Rabbinate’s say both in appointing rabbis and in how they operate. It would create hundreds of publicly funded jobs for Orthodox rabbis, while giving the Chief Rabbinate of Israel considerable say in the appointment of all new municipal rabbis, reversing changes instituted in 2022 by former religious services minister Matan Kahana, a National Unity lawmaker. It would also remove restrictions on holding a vote for a municipal rabbi in the immediate lead-up to municipal or parliamentary elections – a stipulation meant to ensure that rabbinical appointments do not become currency in political trading — and lower the minimum number of women on the rabbinical appointment boards from 40 percent to one-third.In addition, the legislation would do away with a requirement for cities to renew municipal rabbis’ terms every 10 years or give them the option of convening election assemblies to appoint a new rabbi. Instead, city rabbis would essentially hold their jobs until they turn 75, after which they would need to have the city that employs them extend their terms.Israel has about 470 municipal rabbis in total. Their monthly salaries range from NIS 9,000 ($2,400) to NIS 43,000 ($11,200). Some 30 cities without a rabbi would be forced to hire one under the bill, and Tel Aviv and Haifa, which do not currently have any rabbis, would need to hire a minimum of two.In an analysis of the bill over the summer, the Israel Democracy Institute found that it would allow for the hiring of 1,070 new rabbis, though there were only plans for 514, at a cost of NIS 120 million ($33 million).“The situation is absurd. Rather than seeing how fractured our nation is right now, how threatened we are existentially and how dangerous our internal situation, [committee chairman MK Simcha] Rothman and co. are taking advantage of the war to pass a bill that will spend tens of millions of shekels to deprive citizens of their basic Jewish rights and provide more jobs for the Haredim,” Rabbi Seth Farber, the director of the ITIM nonprofit, an advocacy group that helps Israelis navigate their country’s religious bureaucracy, told the Times of Israel. After the bill was shelved earlier this year, the Religious Services Ministry introduced a set of proposed regulations that would accomplish the same goal while sidestepping intense public and legislative opposition.Currently, local governments have a majority on the election committees, with 50% of the votes going to city councilmen and the municipality director-general and the rest evenly split between public representatives chosen by the municipality and the religious services minister.Under the new regulations, municipality director-generals would have been replaced by the heads of local religious councils (who are often appointed by the minister) while the municipality’s public representatives would be cut out of the process entirely. However, the regulations were never implemented and now appear irrelevant as the matter has returned to the Knesset in legislative form.Following the announcement of the bill’s revival, Likud lawmakers took to the Constitution Committee’s WhatsApp group to voice their opposition, Army Radio reported.“Why… are we bringing up a law that is controversial and causes controversy during a time of war,” asked MK Tally Gotliv. “There are enough laws to prepare that are connected to the war. Leave the disputes and this law for better days and take it off the agenda.”“It was agreed by everyone that it is wrong to promote the law during a war, so it’s unclear why it has now been decided to renew the debate on the law,” chimed in MK Moshe Saada.“They thought we wouldn’t notice. Enough already,” Gotliv responded.Canaan Lidor contributed to this report.

Government backs new extension to IDF reservists’ service despite backlash-Ministerial Committee supports bill extending emergency measure by three months, endorses Basic Law giving reservists preferential treatment in housing, academia and civil service-By Sam Sokol-16 June 2024, 7:45 pm

The government on Sunday gave its backing to a draft bill delaying retirement for IDF reservists, amid widespread criticism of its recruitment policies, which many Israelis believe place unequal burdens on different segments of the population. The proposal, a Defense Ministry-backed “draft Security Service Law,” calls to extend a temporary measure raising the exemption age for reserve military service from 40 to 41 for soldiers and from 45 to 46 for officers for several additional months due to an ongoing manpower shortage.Specialists such as doctors and air crewmen will be required to continue serving until 50, instead of 49.The current increase in the exemption age, which was initially passed by the Knesset late last year, is set to expire at the end of the month. After canceling a scheduled cabinet discussion on the measure on Sunday morning following harsh public criticism, the government referred the matter to the Ministerial Committee for Legislation. The committee approved sending the legislation to the Knesset, where it must pass three readings to become law.If eventually approved by the Knesset, the draft bill would mark the second extension of the measure, which was intended as a stopgap solution to prevent a mass release from the reserves of those soldiers reaching the exemption age amid ongoing combat operations in Gaza.It was first extended for four months by 44-33 a Knesset vote in late February.Despite the Defense Ministry calling to extend the measure until the end of the year, the committee only supported a three-month extension, following objections by Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara.Baharav-Miara told the government on Sunday that the bill was legally unacceptable unless an immediate effort is made to draft extra military power “from the entire population,” a reference to the tens of thousands of ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students who receive blanket exemptions from military service. The government has faced harsh public backlash over extending reservists’ service while appearing to take little action to draft the ultra-Orthodox. The Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee is set on Tuesday to debate a bill lowering the age of exemption from mandatory service for Haredi yeshiva students. The bill aims to exempt yeshiva students from service at age 21 while at the same time “very slowly” increasing the rate of ultra-Orthodox conscription.Following the committee’s announcement to back the bill, Opposition Leader Yair Lapid accused the government of discriminating “between blood and blood,” declaring that the extension means additional service for those already in the army “while the government promotes a mass evasion law for ultra-Orthodox youth.”While being careful not to comment on any current legislation or wade into politics, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi also endorsed integrating the ultra-Orthodox into the army during comments released on Sunday.Speaking to soldiers during a visit to Gaza over the weekend, Halevi said that there “is now a clear need” for Haredi soldiers and that every “ultra-Orthodox battalion [the army establishes] decreases the need for the deployment of many thousands of reservists.”Over the past eight months, reservists have complained of economic and familial problems brought about by their long, repeated stints in the army. In many cases, spouses were left alone to care for children — sometimes with schools and kindergartens closed due to the war, depending on the area — and were unable to work for months. At the same time as the committee voted to support the increase in the exemption age, it also endorsed a proposed Basic Law drafted by the Religious Zionism party and backed by both coalition and opposition lawmakers. The bill would give enshrine reserve duty as a “fundamental value” of the state and give preferential treatment to reservists in land purchases, academic admissions and civil service employment. The bill’s intention was to provide reservists “a special status, to give them recognition,” its author, Religious Zionism MK Ohad Tal, told the Times of Israel — adding that equalizing the burden between ultra-Orthodox Israelis and their peers in the service requires “changing the structure of incentives,” both positive and negative.Asked how he squared his support for the reservists with his vote in favor of the Haredi enlistment bill, Tal called to amend the controversial legislation to increase enforcement in order to draft those only pretending to learn in yeshiva — but said that there was no immediate path to drafting all of the ultra-Orthodox and that he was thinking long term.Allowing yeshiva students to leave yeshiva and enter the workforce at age 21 would foster greater integration into Israeli society and the economy, leading to more Haredim serving down the road, Tal argued.“I want them to be part of the Israel economy, to contribute, to pay taxes, because I think that’s the only way. Also, for their children, if they’ll be part of society, I have no doubt that also their children, when they’ll be examining the question of if they need to join the army, they’ll be in a different place,” he said.“You cannot change 76 years of mentality in any bill,” Tal added. “There’s no bill that can actually make it happen tomorrow. You can initiate the process. In 20 years, in a generation, we’ll see a whole change.”Jeremy Sharon contributed to this report.

Far-right ministers blast ‘delusional’ daily pauses in fighting to secure Gaza aid-Netanyahu criticizes move, but IDF says it’s in line with his instructions; Ben Gvir claims decision contrary to cabinet policy; Smotrich says aid mostly ends up in Hamas’s hands-By Sam Sokol-16 June 2024, 2:50 pm

Far-right ministers on Sunday decried a decision by the military to implement a daily pause in military activity along a road in the southern Gaza Strip to enable aid deliveries, describing the measure as foolish and “delusional.”Although the Israel Defense Forces has frequently announced “tactical pauses” since October 7 for several hours in various neighborhoods across the Strip for Palestinians to receive and distribute aid, the latest move marked a more significant daily halt in military activity, for more hours than usual and across a wider area.National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir said in a statement that whoever decided on such a policy is a “fool who should not remain in his position.”“Unfortunately, this move was not brought before the cabinet and is contrary to its decisions. It’s time to get out of the [outdated pre-October 7 security] concept and stop the crazy and delusional approach that only brings us more dead and fallen,” the statement read.Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich attacked the IDF’s “delusional announcement,” complaining that “the ‘humanitarian aid’ that continues to reach Hamas keeps it in power and may pour the achievements of the war down the drain.“The manner in which the humanitarian effort in the Gaza Strip is being managed, in the framework of which aid goes largely to Hamas and helps it to retain civilian control of the Strip in direct contradiction to the goals of the war, has been bad throughout the last few months,” he claimed, adding that he had repeatedly warned that “this is one of the reasons for the continuation of the war and the resounding strategic failure” of the war effort.“The [IDF] chief of staff and the defense minister have for six months been firmly refusing the only path to victory, which is the occupation of the Strip and the establishment of a temporary military government there until the complete destruction of Hamas, and unfortunately Prime Minister Netanyahu is either unwilling or unable to force this on them,” he said.“The problem is that the General Staff is completely disconnected from the existence of the forces in the field [if] it is able to issue such a message on a day when we are burying 11 of our best soldiers,” he added. The ministers’ comments came after the IDF stated that “a local, tactical pause of military activity for humanitarian purposes will take place from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. every day until further notice along the road that leads from the Kerem Shalom Crossing to the Salah al-Din Road and then further north.”The military said in a separate, follow-up statement that it “clarifies that there is no suspension of fighting in the southern Gaza Strip and the fighting in Rafah continues.”Ben Gvir, a member of the security cabinet but not the smaller war cabinet, has grumbled throughout the war about being left out of decision-making forums by the prime minister. Smotrich, who likewise is a member of the security cabinet but not the smaller forum, has been involved in an ongoing feud with the defense establishment, clashing over budgets and arguing against the wartime appointment of senior officers.Far-right ministers and activists have repeatedly slammed and attempted to interrupt the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip for as long as Hamas continues to hold hostages it took during the October 7 massacre.Upon hearing the military’s initial announcement on the measure, Netanyahu contacted his military secretary and “made it clear that this is not acceptable to him,” a diplomatic source said.“After an inquiry, the prime minister was informed that there was no change in IDF policy and that the fighting in Rafah continues as planned,” the source added. The IDF said later in the day that its decision was in line with instructions by Netanyahu to increase the flow of aid into the Strip by allowing safe passage for convoys. After Hamas’s shock October 7 assault on the Gaza border communities, in which some 1,200 people were killed and 251 abducted, Israel halted the transfer of almost all aid shipments into the Gaza Strip, easing the blockade gradually over the following months. As the humanitarian situation in the Strip deteriorated, Israel faced mounting international pressure to accelerate the transfer of supplies into the embattled enclave, where according to the United Nations, hunger conditions have reached famine levels. Aid organizations said that the northern Gaza Strip, where Israel’s ground offensive began, is especially difficult to reach.Emanuel Fabian and Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.

IDF warns Hezbollah is bringing Israel to the brink of a ‘wider escalation’-As cross-border attacks escalate, spokesman Daniel Hagari says ‘one way or another we will ensure the safe return of Israelis to their homes — that is not up for negotiation’
By Emanuel Fabian-and ToI Staff Today, 1:40 am-JUN 16,24

Intensified cross-border fire from Lebanon’s Hezbollah terror group into Israel could trigger serious escalation, the Israeli military said on Sunday.“Hezbollah’s increasing aggression is bringing us to the brink of what could be a wider escalation, one that could have devastating consequences for Lebanon and the entire region,” IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said in an English-language video statement.Hezbollah and Israel have been escalating cross-border strikes. After rocket attacks caused massive fires in the north, Israel last week killed commander Taleb Abdullah, the most senior official killed in the fighting. Hezbollah responded with unprecedented rocket barrages on northern Israel. Two UN officials in Lebanon warned Sunday there was a “very real” risk that a miscalculation along Lebanon’s southern border could trigger a wider conflict. The United Nations special coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, and the head of UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon, Aroldo Lazaro, said in a statement that they were “deeply concerned” about the escalation along Lebanon’s border.CBS News reported that US officials were also increasingly concerned that an all-out war could break out after eight months of skirmishes, since Hezbollah began attacking Israel in October in support of Hamas in Gaza.In light of the US concerns, the Axios news site reported Friday that Amos Hochstein, a senior adviser to US President Joe Biden, will arrive in Israel on Monday to try to put a lid on the escalation.Hagari said Hezbollah “has been escalating its attacks against Israel. Since deciding to join the war that Hamas started on October 7th, Hezbollah has fired over 5,000 rockets; anti-tank missiles, and explosive UAVs from Lebanon at Israeli families, homes, and communities.”He said it was “jeopardizing the future of Lebanon so that it can be a shield for Hamas. A shield for the Hamas terrorists who murdered the elderly, raped women, burned children, and kidnapped Jews, Muslims, and Christians, during their massacre on October 7th.”“When we say that we will not let October 7th happen again on any one of our borders, we mean it,” Hagari added.Noting Hezbollah’s “refusal to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 1701,” which ended the Second Lebanon War and mandated the terror group withdraw north of the Litani River, Hagari said that “because of Hezbollah’s military infrastructure; weapons and fire at Israel from the area south of the Litani River in southern Lebanon, and because of Lebanon’s failure to enforce 1701 on Hezbollah, Israel will take the necessary measures to protect its civilians, until security along our border with Lebanon is restored.”Hagari warned that “one way or another we will ensure the safe and secure return of Israelis to their homes in northern Israel. That is not up for negotiation.”“Iran’s terror proxies continue to drag the region to destruction. Israel will continue fighting against Iran’s axis of evil on all fronts — in Gaza, in Lebanon — as we work towards a more secure future for the Middle East,” Hagari said.“October 7th cannot happen again, on any one of Israel’s borders. Israel has a duty to defend the people of Israel. We will fulfill that duty, at all costs.”Two missiles launched from Lebanon on Saturday struck the Israeli military’s sensitive Mount Meron air traffic control base. The Israel Defense Forces said there were no injuries and “no harm to the unit’s capabilities” in the attack.Hezbollah took responsibility for the incident, claiming to have targeted equipment at the base with guided missiles. The terror group has attacked Mount Meron, located some eight kilometers (five miles) from the Lebanon border, several times throughout the ongoing war. It has launched large barrages of rockets at the mountain, as well as guided missiles at the air traffic control base that sits atop it.In another attack on Saturday, several explosive-laden drones launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon impacted near the northern community of Goren, sparking a fire. The IDF said it was investigating why it failed to down the drones. As part of the diplomatic efforts to defuse the tensions, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that Paris, Washington and Jerusalem would form a contract group to work on doing so, though Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Friday ruled out Israeli involvement, in comments that prompted a public spat with the Foreign Ministry.Hezbollah has been attacking Israeli communities and military posts along the border on a near-daily basis since October 8, which it says it’s doing in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, amid the war started by ally Hamas’s terror onslaught. So far, the skirmishes on the border have resulted in 10 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of 15 IDF soldiers and reservists. There have also been several attacks from Syria, without any injuries.Hezbollah has named 342 members who have been killed by Israel during the ongoing skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria. In Lebanon, another 63 operatives from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and dozens of civilians have been killed.

Fighting will continue in Rafah until Hamas is defeated there, says IDF general-Soldier killed Sunday in Gaza’s southernmost city; first day of IDF’s ‘strategic pauses’ in Strip comes as Palestinians mark Eid al-Adha and fighting appears to abate
By Emanuel Fabian-and AFP Today, 12:01 am-JUN 17,24

Meeting with commanders serving in Rafah on Sunday, IDF Southern Command chief Maj. Gen. Yaron Finkelman said that fighting in the southernmost city in Gaza would continue until Hamas was defeated there.During his meeting in the city, to discuss operational achievements and developments, Finkelman referred to the deadly explosion in Rafah a day earlier in which eight troops were killed inside a Namer armored combat engineering vehicle.“We are here after a painful incident that occurred yesterday,” Finkelman said, “we lost fighters and we lost commanders during the attack. These are our best sons.”Despite the heavy losses, he added, “our imperative is to continue moving forward. You are attacking [Hamas’s] Rafah Brigade, and we will continue until we defeat it.”Finkelman concluded that now, the most important thing for the IDF to do is press on with the fighting while thoroughly investigating the incident and learning for the future.Earlier Sunday, the IDF announced the death of another soldier killed in Rafah that day. He was named as Staff Sgt. Tzur Abraham, 22, of the Nahal Brigade’s reconnaissance unit, from Modiin. He was slated to be buried in his hometown late Sunday evening. In the same incident, a reservist officer serving as a field interrogator with the Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504 was seriously wounded, and another two soldiers were moderately hurt, the military said.Abraham’s death brings the toll of slain troops in the ground offensive against Hamas and in operations on the Gaza border to 312. The toll includes a police officer killed in a hostage rescue mission. A civilian Defense Ministry contractor was also killed in the Strip.Despite the ongoing battles, Gaza saw its first day of relative calm in months on Sunday, after the IDF said it would “pause” fighting daily around a southern route to facilitate aid flows. The pause “for humanitarian purposes will take place from 8:00 am (0500 GMT) until 7:00 pm (1600 GMT) every day until further notice along the road that leads from the Kerem Shalom crossing to the Salah al-Din road and then northwards,” a military statement said.A map released by the army showed the declared humanitarian route extending until Rafah’s European Hospital, about 10 kilometers (six miles) from Kerem Shalom. The IDF stressed in a statement that there was “no cessation of hostilities in the southern Gaza Strip.”AFP correspondents in Gaza’s north and center reported no fighting on Sunday morning, though they reported some shelling and at least one strike in Rafah and an air strike in central Gaza during the early evening.“Since this morning, we’ve felt a sudden calm with no gunfire or bombings… It’s strange,” said 30-year-old Haitham al-Ghura from Gaza City. The announcement came as Muslims the world over mark Eid al-Adha, or the feast of the sacrifice.“This Eid is completely different,” said Umm Muhammad al-Katri in northern Gaza’s Jabaliya refugee camp.“We’ve lost many people. There’s a lot of destruction. We don’t have the joy we usually have,” she told AFP. Instead of a cheerful holiday spirit, “I came to the Eid prayers mourning. I’ve lost my son.”The military said the pause was already in effect as part of efforts to “increase the volumes of humanitarian aid” following discussions with the United Nations and other organizations.COGAT, the Defense Ministry body which coordinates activity in the West Bank and Gaza, said in a report on Sunday that more than 1,000 aid trucks are waiting to be collected from the Gazan side of the Kerem Shalom crossing, and that only 92 were collected by UN aid agencies throughout the day.The war in Gaza broke out on October 7 with Hamas’s unprecedented attack on Israel in which terrorists murdered some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and took 251 hostages. In response, Israel launched a military offensive with the declared objectives of dismantling Hamas and bringing the hostages home. The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry says more than 37,000 people in the Strip have been killed or are presumed dead in the fighting so far. The toll, which cannot be verified and does not differentiate between terrorists and civilians, includes some 15,000 terror operatives Israel says it has killed in battle.

Israeli Navy receives second of new US-built landing craft-2,500-ton INS Komemiyut docks at Haifa Naval Base following lengthy voyage, months after first vessel delivered-By Emanuel Fabian-16 June 2024, 5:39 pm

The Israeli Navy on Sunday received the second of two new landing craft from a shipyard in the United States, with the vessel mooring at the Haifa Naval Base after making a lengthy voyage to the country. The US-built INS Komemiyut was the Navy’s second landing craft, after the INS Nahshon, which was received in early October last year.As the INS Komemiyut arrived in Israel’s territorial waters, it was escorted by a flotilla of other Navy ships, with one vessel symbolically leaving the formation as a salute to the slain soldiers of the war, the military said. The Israel Defense Forces has previously said that the vessels, which weigh 2,500 tons each and are approximately 95 meters (311 feet) in length and 20 meters (65 feet) wide, will “act as a central pillar in adapting the Israeli Navy to the modern and multi-arena battlefield.”The vessels were procured using funds from US military aid to Israel.“Today, at the same time as IDF soldiers are engaged in intense fighting in the various arenas, the Navy received a vessel of strategic significance for the State of Israel. During these historic moments, we salute our brothers in arms who fell during their mission to maintain the security of the State of Israel,” the chief of the Navy, Vice Adm. David Sa’ar Salama, said in remarks released by the military on Sunday.“Sailors of the INS Komemiyut, today you have completed a voyage of thousands of miles. The end of the voyage is the beginning of the journey for you. Your future actions will strengthen the cooperation between the IDF branches, expand the range of military operations, and maintain the security of the State of Israel,” he added. The Navy expects to declare the INS Nahshon operational during 2024. No timeline was given for INS Komemiyut. Each landing craft team consists of dozens of combat sailors, a quarter of them female soldiers and officers, the IDF said previously. The ship will be commanded by a Navy officer with the rank of lieutenant commander — the Ground Forces equivalent of a major.Landing craft are primarily used to transport troops and equipment across the sea and deploy them on the shore during an amphibious assault. The Israeli Navy used such vessels since its inception in 1948 and until 1993, when the last of the aging landing crafts were decommissioned, with the military assessing at the time that it had no use for newer models. The new procurement of the landing crafts for the Israeli Navy began some four years ago.

Russian security forces storm prison, kill Islamic State hostage takers-Inmates killed after allegedly taking captive two prison guards, who were said to be unharmed-By Agencies and ToI Staff 16 June 2024, 2:47 pm

Russian authorities said Sunday that they had brought a siege at a prison in the southern Rostov region to a swift end, killing the Islamic State hostage takers and freeing their two prison guard captives unharmed. The prison service had earlier reported that the two guards had been taken hostage by an unspecified number of Islamic State detainees and that it had entered negotiations for their release. But a short time later it issued a statement saying the siege had ended: “During a special operation…the criminals were liquidated and the employees who were taken hostage were released and were not injured.”No further details were released in the immediate aftermath of the drama at Detention Center 1 in the Rostov region.Intense automatic gunfire could be heard in footage published on Russian Telegram channels. The hostage takers, some of them already convicted of terrorism offenses, had knocked out the bars of a window in their cell and entered a guard room where they took at least two prison officers hostage, Russian media said.????????????‍☠️⚡ A video has appeared where terrorists took hostage employees of the Rostov pre-trial detention center. The employees of pre-trial detention center-1, who were held hostage, have been released. The terrorists were shot dead. pic.twitter.com/K8Ilb96ErH — War Watch (@WarWatchs) June 16, 2024-A police source told state news agency TASS that ISIS members who were due to appear in court on terrorism charges were among the hostage takers. They were reported to be holed up in the prison courtyard, armed with a pocketknife, a baton, and an axe, the source said. Before special forces stormed the detention center, one of the hostage takers was shown by the 112 Telegram channel brandishing a knife beside one of the bound guards. The hostage taker wore a headband with the flag used by the Islamic State that bears an Arabic inscription. The Interfax news agency said there were six hostage takers who demanded to be provided with a car and to be allowed to leave the prison in exchange for the release of the hostages. An unverified video shared on social media, purporting to be from the aftermath of the scene, showed six dead men lying on the ground. The incident comes nearly three months after gunmen killed at least 144 people when they opened fire inside a concert hall near Moscow in an attack claimed by the jihadist group. Hundreds more were injured in the March 22 attack at the Crocus City Hall, the deadliest on Russian soil in two decades.More than 20 people have since been arrested, including the four suspected gunmen, all from the former Soviet republic of Tajikistan, an impoverished country on Afghanistan’s northern border.Russia has been repeatedly targeted by attacks claimed by ISIS terrorists, though the jihadist group’s influence in the country remains limited.Russian media reports speculated that the attackers at the Rostov detention center could be among those arrested in 2022 for allegedly planning an attack on the Supreme Court of Karachay-Cherkessia, a Muslim-majority Russian republic in the Caucasus.Nearly 4,500 Russians, mainly from the Caucasus, traveled to Iraq and Syria to fight together with the Islamic State group, according to official figures. In April, two armed men who authorities said were members of “an international terrorist organization” were shot dead by Russian forces near Nalchik in the Caucasus.

Regime has installed advanced new centrifuges, plans more-Iran rebukes G7 for ‘destructive policies of the past’ after nuclear program warning-Tehran says it will continue to cooperate with IAEA, accuses G7 of ‘resorting to false claims to continue sanctions’ after vow to act if Iran sends ballistic missiles to Moscow-By Reuters and ToI Staff 16 June 2024, 9:47 am

Iran called upon the Group of Seven on Sunday to distance itself from “destructive policies of the past,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said, referring to a G7 statement condemning Iran’s recent nuclear program escalation. On Friday, the G7 warned Iran against advancing its nuclear enrichment program and said it would be ready to enforce new measures if Tehran were to transfer ballistic missiles to Russia.“Any attempt to link the war in Ukraine to the bilateral cooperation between Iran and Russia is an act with only biased political goals,” Kanaani said, adding that some countries are “resorting to false claims to continue sanctions” against Iran.Last week, the UN nuclear watchdog’s 35-nation Board of Governors passed a resolution calling on Iran to step up cooperation with the watchdog and reverse its recent barring of inspectors.Iran responded by rapidly installing additional advanced uranium-enriching centrifuges at its Fordo site and begun setting up others, according to an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report.Kanaani added Tehran would continue its “constructive interaction and technical cooperation” with the IAEA, but called its resolution “politically biased.”Iran is now enriching uranium to up to 60 percent purity — close to the 90% of weapons-grade — and has enough material enriched to that level for three nuclear weapons, according to an IAEA yardstick.Since the collapse of Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers following the US’s unilateral withdrawal from the accord in 2018, it has pursued nuclear enrichment just below weapons-grade levels. Western powers say there is no credible civilian reason for that. Iran says its aims are entirely peaceful but officials have recently said it could change its “nuclear doctrine” if it is attacked or its existence threatened by arch-foe Israel. That has prompted alarm at the IAEA and in Western capitals.Iran, as a signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, has pledged to allow the IAEA to visit its atomic sites to ensure its program is peaceful. Tehran also agreed to additional oversight from the IAEA as part of the 2015 nuclear deal. However, for years it has curtailed inspectors’ access to sites while also not fully answering questions about other sites where nuclear material has been found in the past. The IAEA’s director-general, Rafael Mariano Grossi, visited Iran in May in an effort to boost inspections, but there hasn’t been any major public change in Iran’s stance. All this comes as the Islamic Republic also appears to be trying to contain the risk it faces from the US after launching an unprecedented attack on Israel. The assault — a response to a suspected Israeli strike on April 1 that killed two Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps generals and others in Damascus, Syria — further pushed a years-long shadow war between Israel and Iran out into the open.

UN officials warn miscalculation could lead to wider conflict-Hezbollah strikes north in latest revenge attacks for commander killed by Israel-Missiles launched by terror group hit Mount Meron air traffic control base but IDF says ‘no harm to the unit’s capabilities’; Israeli strike targets terror operative in Lebanon-By Emanuel Fabian-15 June 2024, 7:04 pmUpdated at 2:54 am

Two missiles launched from Lebanon on Saturday struck the Israeli military’s sensitive Mount Meron air traffic control base, amid growing international concern the cross-border fighting between Israel and Hezbollah could descend into a full-scale conflict. The IDF said it was investigating why it failed to down the drones.Hezbollah in a statement claimed to have targeted a military base in the area. Like the missile attack on Mount Meron, the Iran-backed terror organization said the strike was carried out in response to Israel’s targeting this week of Taleb Sami Abdullah, the most senior Hezbollah commander killed so far in the fighting.Meanwhile, the IDF confirmed carrying out a strike against a Hezbollah operative in southern Lebanon’s Aitaroun on Saturday morning. Video released by the military showed the strike against the operative riding a motorcycle.Palestinian Islamic Jihad later announced the death of a member in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon, though it was unclear if it was the same attack. He was named as Zuhair Jalbout, 45. No further details were given on the circumstances of his death.Numerous Islamic Jihad operatives have been killed in Israeli strikes on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon during the ongoing fighting.Islamic Jihad says one of its fighters killed in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon pic.twitter.com/fLTS6IBvGw— Guy Elster (@guyelster) June 15, 2024-On Saturday night, the IDF said fighter jets struck a Hezbollah weapons depot in southern Lebanon’s Aitaroun. The IDF said jets hit several more Hezbollah targets in the town, including a building used by the terror group. Additional Hezbollah infrastructure was struck in Chihine, and another building used by the terror group was hit in Ayta ash-Shab, the military added. In a strike on Friday night, the IDF said fighter jets targeted a building in southern Lebanon’s Kafr Kila that was allegedly used by Hezbollah and was adjacent to an area from which the terror group fired rockets at Metula on Friday. The latest skirmishes came as CBS News reported that US officials are increasingly concerned that an all-out war could break out between Israel and Hezbollah due to increasingly deeper attacks by the two sides. Some US officials told the American network they believe recent Israeli strikes deeper in Lebanese territory were setting the stage for a broader operation, which they expressed concern would spark a war that Israel cannot complete without Washington’s support.Other US officials quoted in the report said they were worried by a scenario in which intensifying Hezbollah rocket attacks could result in “unintended consequences” that give Israel cause to launch a major offensive. On Saturday, two senior United Nations officials said they were “deeply concerned” about the escalation on the border. “The danger of miscalculation leading to a sudden and wider conflict is very real,” said UN special coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, and head of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Aroldo Lazaro. In a joint statement, they urged “all actors to cease their fire and commit to working toward a political and diplomatic solution”.In light of the US concerns, the Axios news site reported Friday that Amos Hochstein, a senior adviser to US President Joe Biden, will arrive in Israel on Monday to try to put a lid on the escalation. As part of the diplomatic efforts to defuse the tensions, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that Paris, Washington and Jerusalem would form a contract group to work on doing so, though Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Friday ruled out Israeli involvement in comments that prompted a public spat with the Foreign Ministry.Hezbollah has been attacking Israeli communities and military posts along the border on a near-daily basis since October 8, which it says it’s doing in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, amid the war started by ally Hamas’s terror onslaught. In Lebanon, another 63 operatives from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and dozens of civilians have been killed.Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.

UK, France, Germany slam Iran for expanding nuclear program, ‘hollowing out’ deal-E3 states warn Iran’s new operation of advanced centrifuges, plan for thousands more, pose major proliferation risk; stress ‘especially concerning’ activity at underground facility-By Agencies 15 June 2024, 6:00 pm

France, Germany and Britain on Saturday condemned Iran’s latest steps, as reported by the International Atomic Energy Agency, to further expand its nuclear program.“Iran has taken further steps in hollowing out the JCPOA, by operating dozens of additional advanced centrifuges at the Natanz enrichment site as well as announcing it will install thousands more centrifuges at both its Fordow and Natanz sites,” the joint statement said, referring to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action signed with Iran in 2015.“This decision is a further escalation of Iran’s nuclear program, which carries significant proliferation risks,” it added. The joint statement stressed that “Iran’s decision to substantially increase its production capacity at the underground Fordow facility is especially concerning.”“Iran is legally obliged under the Non-Proliferation Treaty to fully implement its safeguards agreement, which is separate to the JCPOA.”The condemnation came a day after the International Atomic Energy Agency reported that Iran has started new cascades of advanced centrifuges and plans to install more in the coming weeks. Spinning up new centrifuges further advances Iran’s nuclear program, which already enriches uranium at near-weapons-grade levels and boasts a stockpile enough for several nuclear bombs if it chose to pursue them.“Iran aims to continue expanding its nuclear program in ways that have no credible peaceful purpose,” US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement denouncing Tehran. “These planned actions further undermine Iran’s claims to the contrary. If Iran implements these plans, we will respond accordingly.”Miller did not elaborate on what steps the US and its allies might take. However, Iran already faces grinding economic sanctions from Washington and others that have deeply cut into its economy and sent its rial currency tumbling over recent years.Since the collapse of Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers following the US’s unilateral withdrawal from the accord in 2018, it has pursued nuclear enrichment just below weapons-grade levels. Western powers say there is no credible civilian reason for that. Iran says its aims are entirely peaceful but officials have recently said it could change its “nuclear doctrine” if it is attacked or its existence threatened by arch-foe Israel. Sweden says Russian bomber violated its airspace-by AFP Staff Writers-Stockholm (AFP) June 15, 2024

A Russian SU-24 bomber violated Swedish airspace near the strategic Baltic Sea island of Gotland, leaving only after Sweden scrambled two JAS-39 fighter jets, Sweden's military said on Saturday. The incident on Friday occurred three months after the Scandinavian country became a full member of NATO, dropping two centuries of military non-alliance."On Friday afternoon, a Russian SU-24 jet fighter violated Swedish airspace east of Gotland's southern tip. The Swedish air combat command warned the Russian aircraft with a verbal call," the Swedish armed forces said."When this was not heeded and the aircraft did not deviate from its route, it was dismissed from Swedish airspace by two JAS-39 Gripens," it said. The violation was "brief", the military said."The Russian actions are not acceptable and demonstrate a lack of respect for our territorial integrity," the head of Sweden's air force, Jonas Wikman, said.Gotland is located fewer than 350 kilometres (217 miles) from the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.Swedish military doctrine holds that whoever controls Gotland is able to broadly control air and naval movements in the Baltic Sea.Sweden reopened its garrison on Gotland in 2018 after years of slashed military spending saw it close in 2004.Russia's unilateral annexation of the Crimean peninsula in 2014 had prompted Sweden to start beefing up its military again.Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 then led to Sweden's historic decision to join the NATO military alliance. The last time Russia violated Swedish airspace was in March 2022, when Swedish fighters intercepted two Su-24 and two Su-27 fighter jets over Gotland.

Nuclear arms spending soars as global tensions swell: studies-Geneva, June 17 (AFP) Jun 17, 2024

Nuclear-armed countries hiked spending on atomic weapons arsenals by a third in the past five years as they modernised their stockpiles amid growing geopolitical tensions, two reports showed on Monday. The world's nine nuclear-armed states jointly spent $91 billion on their arsenals last year, according to a new report from the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN).That report, and a separate one from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), indicated that nuclear weapons states are dramatically scaling up spending as they modernise and even deploy new nuclear-armed weapons."I think it is fair to say there is a nuclear arms race under way," ICAN chief Melissa Parke told AFP.Wilfred Wan, head of SIPRI's weapons of mass destruction programme, meanwhile warned in a statement that "we have not seen nuclear weapons playing such a prominent role in international relations since the Cold War".SIPRI's report showed that the total estimated number of nuclear warheads in the world actually declined somewhat to 12,121 at the start of this year, from 12,512 a year earlier. But while some of that included older warheads scheduled to be dismantled, it said 9,585 were in stockpiles for potential use -- nine more than a year earlier. And 2,100 were kept in a state of "high operational alert" on ballistic missiles.Nearly all of those were held by the United States and Russia, but China was for the first time believed to also have some warheads on high operational alert, SIPRI said."While the global total of nuclear warheads continues to fall as Cold War-era weapons are gradually dismantled, regrettably we continue to see year-on-year increases in the number of operational nuclear warheads," SIPRI director Dan Smith said.- Nuclear weapons spending jump -The spending surge reported by ICAN appeared to back that up.The report showed that in 2023 alone, nuclear weapons spending worldwide jumped by $10.8 billion from a year earlier, with the United States accounting for 80 percent of that increase. The US share of total spending, $51.5 billion, "is more than all the other nuclear-armed countries put together", said ICAN.The next biggest spender was China, at $11.8 billion, followed by Russia, spending $8.3 billion.Britain's spending meanwhile rose significantly for the second year in a row, swelling 17 percent to $8.1 billion.Spending for 2023 by the nuclear-armed states -- which also include France, India, Israel, Pakistan and North Korea -- jumped more than 33 percent from the $68.2 billion spent in 2018, when ICAN first began collecting this data, it said.Since then, the nuclear armed states have spent an estimated total of $387 billion on the deadly weapons, the report showed.- 'Investing in Armageddon' -Parke slammed "the billions of dollars being squandered on nuclear weapons" as "a profound and unacceptable misallocation of public funds".She highlighted that that money was more than what the World Food Programme estimates is needed to end world hunger."And you could plant a million trees for every minute of nuclear weapons spending," she said."These numbers are obscene, and it is money that the state says is going towards weapons that... will never be used," she said, pointing to the nuclear deterrence doctrine. The investments are not only wasteful but also extremely dangerous, she warned."What happens when deterrence fails?"Geneva-based ICAN won the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize for its key role in drafting the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which took effect in 2021.Seventy countries have ratified it to date and more have signed it, although none of the nuclear weapons states have come on board."Instead of investing in Armageddon, the nine nuclear-armed states should follow the example of almost half the world's countries and join the treaty... and make a real contribution to global security," said Alicia Sanders-Zakre, a co-author of Monday's ICAN report.

Iran expands nuclear capacities further: IAEA-Vienna, June 13 (AFP) Jun 13, 2024

Iran is further expanding its nuclear capacities, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Thursday, one week after the agency's board of governors passed a resolution criticising Tehran's lack of cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog. The IAEA informed its members that Tehran told the agency it was installing more cascades at the enrichment facilities in Natanz and Fordow, according to a statement sent to AFP.A cascade is a series of centrifuges, machines used in the process of enriching uranium. A diplomatic source deemed this development as "moderate".The motion brought by Britain, France and Germany -- but opposed by China and Russia -- at the IAEA's 35-nation board last week was the first of its kind since November 2022.The resolution -- which Tehran slammed as "hasty and unwise" -- came amid an impasse over Iran's escalating nuclear activities and as Western powers fear Tehran may be seeking to develop a nuclear weapon, a claim Iran denies.Although symbolic in nature at this stage, the censure motion aims to raise diplomatic pressure on Iran, with the option to potentially refer the issue to the UN Security Council. In the past, similar resolutions have prompted Tehran to retaliate by removing surveillance cameras and other equipment from its nuclear facilities and ratcheting up its uranium enrichment activities."The report issued today by the IAEA makes clear that Iran aims to continue expanding its nuclear programme in ways that have no credible peaceful purpose," US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement."Iran must cooperate with the IAEA without further delay to fully implement its legally binding safeguards obligations."According to the IAEA, Iran is the only non-nuclear weapon state to enrich uranium to the high level of 60 percent -- just short of weapons-grade -- while it keeps accumulating large uranium stockpiles. The IAEA has said that Tehran has significantly ramped up its nuclear programme and now has enough material to build several atomic bombs. The Islamic republic has gradually broken away from its commitments under the nuclear deal it struck with world powers in 2015.The landmark deal provided Iran with relief from Western sanctions in exchange for curbs on its atomic programme, but it fell apart after the unilateral withdrawal of the United States under then-president Donald Trump in 2018.Efforts to revive the deal have so far failed.

Deaths reported in Mecca as Muslims complete last hajj ritual in extreme heat-Some pilgrims say once in a lifetime experience marred by ongoing Israel-Hamas war, defying Saudi warning against political comments during pilgrimage-By Sahar Al Attar 16 June 2024, 6:28 pm

MINA, Saudi Arabia (AFP) — Pilgrims on Sunday performed the last major ritual of the hajj, the “stoning of the devil,” in western Saudi Arabia, as Muslims the world over celebrated the Eid al-Adha holiday.Beginning at dawn, the 1.8 million Muslims undertaking the pilgrimage this year threw seven stones at each of three concrete walls symbolizing the devil in the Mina valley, located outside Islam’s holiest city of Mecca. The ritual commemorates Abraham’s stoning of the devil at the three spots where it is said Satan tried to dissuade him from obeying God’s order to sacrifice his son.The stoning ritual has been witness to multiple stampedes over the years, most recently in 2015 when up to 2,300 worshipers were killed in the worst hajj disaster.Roads leading to the concrete walls were nevertheless packed early Sunday, with some pilgrims visibly struggling under the morning sun, and a number of deaths reported that are believed to be related to the heat. Those who arrived on foot later in the day, among them a number of elderly pilgrims, were especially vulnerable to heat as temperatures again soared well past 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit).Deaths reported-At least two pilgrims were seen lying on the side of the road, sheltered by buildings and cars, a few hundred meters from the concrete walls.“It’s very difficult, we can’t find transport. I can’t get up anymore,” said Ahmed Alsayed Omran, a 70-year-old Egyptian retiree, as he sat on the sidewalk.Amman announced on Sunday that 14 Jordanian pilgrims had died and 17 were missing, while Iran reported five deaths, though neither country specified the cause.Saudi Arabia has not provided any information on fatalities.During last year’s hajj, at least 240 people — many from Indonesia — died, according to figures announced by various countries which also did not specify causes of death. On Saturday, temperatures reached 46 degrees Celsius (114.8 degrees Fahrenheit) in Arafat, where pilgrims performed hours of outdoor prayers. One treatment center in the area recorded 225 cases of heat stress and fatigue, the official Saudi Press Agency reported. That figure was not comprehensive.Last year, more than 10,000 cases of heat-related illnesses were documented during the hajj, 10 percent of which were heat stroke, a health ministry spokesman told AFP.“It was very, very hot,” Rohy Daiseca, a 60-year-old Gambian living in the United States, told AFP on Saturday night as pilgrims collected stones to throw. “Alhamdulillah [praise be to God], I put a lot of water on my head and it was OK.”Feast of the sacrifice-Worshipers have tried to take the grueling conditions in stride, seizing what for many is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to pray at Islam’s holiest shrines.“I am so happy that I can’t describe my feelings,” said Amal Mahrouss, a 55-year-old woman from Egypt. “This place shows us that we are all equal, that there are no differences between Muslims around the world.”One of the five pillars of Islam, the hajj must be performed at least once by all Muslims with the means. This year’s figure of 1.8 million pilgrims is similar to last year’s, and Saudi authorities said on Saturday that 1.6 million of them came from abroad. The stoning ritual coincides with Eid al-Adha, or the feast of the sacrifice, which honors Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son before God offered a sheep instead.Worshipers typically slaughter a sheep and offer part of the meat to the needy. This year’s hajj and Eid al-Adha holiday have been clouded by the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.“We don’t feel the Eid holiday because our brothers in Gaza are oppressed under the occupation,” said Najem Nawwar, a 43-year-old Egyptian pilgrim.King Salman invited 2,000 Palestinians to the hajj at his own expense including relatives of Gazans who have sought refuge elsewhere. But Saudi authorities have warned that no political slogans would be tolerated during the pilgrimage. That has not stopped many worshippers from voicing solidarity with Palestinians.“We pray for them… and for the liberation of Palestine, so that we have two holidays instead of one,” said Wadih Ali Khalifah, a 32-year-old Saudi pilgrim. In a message to hajj pilgrims on Saturday, Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said “the ironclad resistance of Palestine and the patient, oppressed people of Gaza… must be fully supported in every way.”

US to temporarily remove aid pier from Gaza coast again due to bad weather-UN, aid agencies say transfer of goods from pier to Gazans remains suspended due to perception Israeli military used area during last week’s hostage rescue-By Agencies and ToI Staff 15 June 2024, 11:08 am

WASHINGTON — The United States military is preparing to temporarily remove its humanitarian pier off the coast of Gaza because of anticipated sea conditions, a US official said on Friday, the latest challenge to the effort that has been hampered by bad weather since it was put into place in May.The floating US military pier off Gaza had just resumed bringing humanitarian aid into the enclave after being suspended over the weekend. The official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that the pier would likely be moved to the Israeli port of Ashdod until sea conditions improve.Aid began arriving via the pier on May 17, and the United Nations said it transported 137 trucks of aid to warehouses, some 900 metric tons, before the US announced on May 28 that it had suspended operations so repairs could be made. The UN said on Friday it had still not resumed transportation of aid from the pier to UN World Food Program warehouses.“Our security colleagues are still working to ensure that secure conditions for humanitarian work can be re-established,” said deputy UN spokesperson Farhan Haq.UN officials also said they were reassessing the use of the pier, claiming that Israeli military activity nearby had jeopardized the perceived neutrality of the aid route.Rushing out a mortally wounded Israeli commando after last week’s hostage rescue raid, Israeli rescuers opted against returning the way they came, across a land border, Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari told reporters. Instead, they sped toward the beach and the site of the US aid hub on Gaza’s coast, he said. An Israeli helicopter touched down near the US-built pier and helped whisk away hostages and the commando, according to the US and Israeli militaries.Israel and the US deny that any aspect of the month-old US pier was used in the Israeli raid. They say an area near it was used to fly home the hostages. However, the UN World Food Program, which works with the US to transfer aid from the pier to warehouses and local aid teams for distribution within Gaza, suspended cooperation as it conducts a security review. Aid has been piling up on the beach since. The UN has to look at the facts as well as what the Palestinian public and armed groups believe about any US, pier or aid worker involvement in the raid, Haq said.“Humanitarian aid must not be used and must not be perceived as taking any side in a conflict,” Haq said. “The safety of our humanitarian workers depends on all sides and the communities on the ground trusting their impartiality.”Rumors have swirled on social media, deepening the danger to aid workers, humanitarian groups say.“Whether or not we’ve seen the pier used for military purposes is almost irrelevant. Because the perception of people in Gaza, civilians and armed groups, is that humanitarian aid has been instrumentalized” by parties in the conflict, said Suze van Meegen, head of operations in Gaza for the Norwegian Refugee Council.Oxfam International and some other aid organizations said they are waiting for answers from the US government because it’s responsible for the agreements with the UN and other humanitarian groups on how the pier and aid deliveries function.Questions include whether the Israeli helicopters and security forces used what the US had promised aid groups would be a no-go area for the Israeli military around the pier, said Scott Paul, an associate director at Oxfam.US President Joe Biden announced in March the plan to put the pier in place for aid deliveries during the war between Israel and the Palestinian terror group. The pier is estimated to cost hundreds of millions of dollars for the first 90 days and involves about 1,000 US service members. The ongoing war in the enclave was started by the Hamas-led October 7 massacre in which Palestinian terrorists killed some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapped 251.The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry says more than 37,000 people in the Strip have been killed or are presumed dead in the fighting, an unverified figure that does not differentiate between civilians and combatants. The toll is believed to include some 15,000 terror operatives Israel says it has killed in battle. Israel also says it killed some 1,000 terrorists inside Israel on October 7.

According to ancient oriental usage, slaves and soldiers bore the name or stamp of their master or commander branded or pricked (cut) into their bodies to indicate what master or general they belonged to, and there were even some devotees who stamped themselves in this way with the token of their gods (cf. Deyling, Observations, iii., p. 423ff); hence, τά στίγματα τοῦ (κυρίου so Rec.) Archaeology-Ancient Lod coin hoard reveals details of little-known 4th-century Jewish uprising-94 coins found in a destroyed Jewish public building were buried during the short-lived Gallus Revolt, undertaken by the Jews during a time of Roman civil war-By Gavriel Fiske-16 June 2024, 4:31 pm

Archaeologists have uncovered a hoard of silver and bronze coins dating from the 4th century CE buried in the foundations of an ancient, destroyed Jewish public building in the central Israel city of Lod, the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) announced on Sunday. The 94 coins were probably buried for safekeeping during the events of the Gallus Revolt (351-354 CE), a lesser-known Jewish uprising against Roman rule in the land of Israel, but the building was destroyed and the coins were never recovered, the IAA said. The Gallus Revolt was named by historians after the Roman Emperor Constantius Gallus (326–354), who at the time was presiding over a fractured, weakened empire, but specifics about the events “are not clear,” explained IAA archaeologist Mor Viezel, co-director of the Lod excavations, to The Times of Israel.“We have so little information about it. There nearly aren’t historical records, just three Roman historians who wrote a few lines, and a bit of writing by Chazal about a revolt in Lod,” Viezel said, using the Hebrew term for the ancient Jewish sages of the post-Second Temple period. The Roman Empire at the time was experiencing the turmoil of a civil war, as Gallus strove against the usurper general Magnus Magnentius. “Caesar wasn’t a big power, not very strong, and maybe [the Jews] felt there was a window of opportunity to take control again, but it didn’t work,” Viezel said. There could have been other factors in the short-lived Jewish rebellion, as the Jewish community was suffering under steep taxes, and it was also a time when Christianity was growing in the Roman Empire and taking a more belligerent tone vis-à-vis the Jewish communities, Viezel noted.“According to the Roman historians, Roman forces came to Tiberias, Sepphoris and Lod and destroyed buildings down to their foundations. And this is the building we found in Lod, with this treasure of 94 coins buried underground,” Viezel said. There is some archaeological evidence of the Gallus Revolt in the Galilee, where much of the Jewish community lived at the time, but the Lod excavation is “the first time we have found a building and connected it to the revolt in the south of Israel, so it’s very exciting,” Viezel said. The unearthed building was probably “a magnificent Jewish building that housed the city’s elders. From Talmudic writings, we know that Lod was a most significant Jewish center in the aftermath of the Second Temple’s destruction in Jerusalem,” the IAA said in its statement announcing the finding.“This building, destroyed down to its very foundation, is a clear indication that the revolt was forcefully put down with violence and cruelty, and was not simply a local uprising event, as some earlier studies contended,” the IAA added.Although the building was destroyed, archaeologists found “impressive stone and marble artifacts” along with “Greek, Hebrew and Latin inscriptions” including one “bearing the name of a Jewish man from a priestly family, which is still being studied,” the IAA said. The building could have been used as “a synagogue, study hall, meeting hall of the elders, or all three of these functions as one.”From the time of the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE and through the subsequent Jewish revolts against Roman hegemony, the most famous being the Bar Kochba Revolt of 132–136 CE, Lod was “a leading community” and “a center of Torah-true Jewish life,” the IAA said. After the Gallus Revolt, “Lod didn’t return to its former self. It was a very important city and the Gallus Revolt, it seems, destroyed it for the Jews,” though Christians and others continued to live in the city, Viezel said. The archaeologists actually discovered “hundreds” of coins in the excavation, but the specific hoard of 94 coins, found together, was dated from the time of the Gallus Revolt or just before, and a significant number of them “hadn’t been used very much,” Viezel said, indicated that they were newly minted and then set aside.“We see them as emergency coins. There was instability, and they buried the coins to protect them. They did it in a public building. We find a lot of these hoards in synagogues, as people felt those buildings would survive and they could return later,” Viezel said.Lod is one of the oldest cities in Israel, and has been continually populated since the Neolithic period, making excavations challenging because of the dense layers of history found underneath the modern city. The destroyed ancient building, located in the northern part of the city near Tel Lod, was discovered as a result of construction work, and the excavation was funded by the Lod Municipality in conjunction with the IAA.“They want to build a new public building, and then we found an ancient one. Certainly, more finds are waiting. We have to work little by little. In Lod, you throw a stone and find antiquities. I think that Lod, as an archaeological site, doesn’t receive enough respect,” Viezel said.More information about the Lod coin hoard, and other recent archaeological finds, is to be presented at the annual Central Israel Region Archaeological Conference, to be held on Thursday, June 20 at the Eretz Yisrael Museum in Tel Aviv. The conference, free and open to the public, is hosted by Tel Aviv University, Bar Ilan University and the Israel Antiquities Authority.

Economically battered West Bank fears punitive steps by Smotrich-Finance minister has said he will sever key artery enabling transactions between Palestinian Authority and Israeli banking systems-By AFP and ToI Staff 16 June 2024, 8:27 am

Palestinian teenagers bounced on trampolines and jumped through hoops inside a towering tent on the outskirts of Ramallah, the financial hub of the West Bank. But the circus students weren’t the only ones bending over backward in the pavilion: the school’s director faced financial hurdles to buy the tent from Europe and trampolines from Asia.“We are suffering with international payments,” said Mohamad Rabah, head of the Palestinian Circus School, describing a bureaucratic process that could delay equipment delivery by up to a month.Banking in the Palestinian territories is challenging, with the Palestinian Authority (PA) under scrutiny for potential terror financing, hindering transactions.Israel has controlled the West Bank since 1967, with strong economic ties allowing two Israeli lenders to serve as correspondent banks in the Palestinian territory. But this may change if far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich carries out threats to sever a vital banking route next month.Since the Palestinian terror group Hamas’s devastating October 7 attack on Israel that started the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, Israel has imposed economic curbs on the PA, withholding tax revenues it collects on its behalf.Protesting the PA’s policy of making payments to terrorists and the families of terrorists, Smotrich said last week that he had redirected $35 million in PA tax revenues to families of terror victims, a move condemned by the United States.“The Palestinian Authority encourages and favors terrorism by paying the families of terrorists, prisoners and released prisoners. In accordance with the judgments that awarded compensation to the victims of terrorism, we offset the same amounts from the PA’s funds and are transferring the awarded money to the families of the victims of terrorism,” Smotrich said. “I signed an order that transfers about NIS 130 million from the PA’s frozen funds to victims of terrorism.”Smotrich has also accused the PA of “support” for Hamas’s October 7 terror onslaught. After three European countries recognized Palestinian statehood in May, Smotrich told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu he would not extend indemnity to banks that transfer the funds from the end of June.Israel’s Bank Hapoalim and Israel Discount Bank need protection, expiring on July 1, to avoid sanctions for dealing with Palestinian lenders. If the waiver is canceled, Israeli firms will not be able to receive money from Palestinian banks or deposit Palestinian checks, impacting business ties. The Bank of Israel and Finance Ministry declined to comment when contacted by AFP.‘Humanitarian crisis’The banking channel used to pay for West Bank imports — including essential goods like water, fuel, and food — handles $8 billion yearly.Palestinian businesses receive nearly $1.7 billion annually for exports, according to the Palestine Monetary Authority.“For us, because our economy is dependent on the Israeli economy because Israel is controlling the border, the impact will be high,” said PMA governor Feras Milhem. The Palestinian economy is largely governed by the 1994 Paris Protocol, which granted sole control over the territories’ borders to Israel, including the right to collect import duties and value-added tax for the PA.Palestinian livelihoods have also been hurt by bans on laborers crossing into Israel in the wake of the Hamas onslaught, which killed some 1,200 people in southern Israel, and by a sharp downturn in tourism in the territory, including a quiet Christmas season in Bethlehem. The United States has urged Israel to improve conditions, warning that severing the banking route would have a dire impact on the West Bank economy.“I believe it would create a humanitarian crisis in due course if Palestinian banks are cut off from Israeli correspondence,” US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said last month.Western governments fear Israel’s economic policies could destabilize the West Bank.“The banking system may collapse and therefore the PA may collapse as well,” a European diplomatic source in Jerusalem told AFP on condition of anonymity. “The PA is in a financial crisis and it could collapse before August.”Digital currency-Palestinian businessmen say their bottom lines have been hit since October 7.Imad Rabah, who owns a plastics company, said his net income had fallen 50 percent in one year.Arak producer Nakhleh Jubran said his liquor business had fallen 30% over the same period.“We have a traditional war in Gaza and we have an economic war in the West Bank,” said Jubran.Musa Shamieh, who owns a womenswear company, said the Israeli policies were designed to push Palestinians to leave the West Bank.“They want us to leave our land and they know it will be hard for us to stay if we can’t do business,” Shamieh said.Israel’s punishing economic policies could eventually drive Palestinian policymakers to pursue sweeping changes to the monetary system.“We need to work on a plan B when it comes to the trade relations,” said Milhem, governor of the PMA, which uses an image of the Palestine pound, the currency used during Britain’s colonial rule, as its logo.Yousef Daoud, a professor at the West Bank’s Birzeit University, said the territory could scrap the shekel as its de facto currency in favor of a digital alternative.“We can make our e-currency, just collect all the shekels, issue an equivalent amount of Palestinian pounds, one-to-one fixed exchange rate, and have the Palestinians deal with e-currency,” he said. “Somehow, eventually, we’ll get rid of the shekel.”

Biometric cards adapt with national digital identity systems-Jun 14, 2024, 12:01 pm EDT| Ghulam Shabir Arain

Governments in various countries are adopting and adapting digital identity systems with or based on cards. The Nepal government is mandating National Identity Cards for all government services, integrating biometric verification to streamline social security and pensions. Malaysia’s UNHCR is bolstering refugee protection with secure biometric identity cards. Japan plans to utilize My Number cards for disaster response. At the same time, West New Britain in Papua New Guinea is investing in a comprehensive NID rollout to improve service delivery and prepare for biometric voting. In a bid for this growing market, STMicroelectronics has announced the launch of the STeID Java Card platform to enhance the security and efficiency of digital identity and online government applications with biometric authentication.STMicroelectronics launches digital ID card platform-STMicroelectronics has introduced STeID Java Card, which constitutes a significant dive into the field of digital identity and Government online portals. The new biometric card platform meets the requirements for secure identity documents, according to a company announcement, and is certified by Common Criteria to EAL 6+, meaning it attains a high level of security and confidence. The card runs the open STeID JC  operating system, compliant with Java Card 3.0.5 specification and Global Platform 2.3.1 security architecture on microcontrollers like the ST31.It supports machine-readable travel documents (eMRTD) to the  ICAO 9303 standard, driving licenses to the ISO/IEC 18013 standard, and complies with eIDAS QSCD as a qualified digital signature creation device. The STeID Java Card provides fingerprint match-on-card functionality for secure offline biometric authentication of digital identities on mobile devices using near Field Communication (NFC) specifications.Nepal to require national ID card for social security in July-The Nepali government has mandated the use of the National Identity Card (NID) for all government services, Kantipur news reports.Starting next July, citizens will need their NID for social security allowance and pension renewals through biometric verification. This initiative aims to streamline services, prevent fraud, and save time for senior citizens who no longer need to visit municipal offices for renewals. According to the National Identity Card and Registration Department, the system currently facilitates social security benefits for about 3.8 million senior citizens around the country. The Department is integrating the NID details across various sectors, including banking, health insurance, and vehicle registration, enhancing the card’s utility and reducing costs associated with printing multiple ID cards. Officials say measures are in place to prevent people from obtaining cards under multiple identities, likely referring to biometric deduplication.Director General Yuvraj Kattel says that a proposal is being developed for all state entities that use Nepalese citizenship certificates to switch to the national ID card number.Improving refugeeprotection with biometric cards in Malaysia-UNHCR Malaysia reports its use of biometrics in refugee identity cards has helped protect refugees and increased the credentials’ credibility in the eyes of law enforcement and government authorities. The refugee agency captures fingerprints, iris biometrics, and facial photographs to curb identity theft and ensure better safety for refugees. The UNHCR card is the only identification  most refugees have, hence they use it to access services and avoid apprehension under the country’s immigration laws. About 188,210 refugees and asylum-seekers registered with UNHCR in Malaysia, as of the end of April 2024. The majority are from Myanmar, fleeing conflict-affected areas or persecution.Japan’s my number card plan for disaster management-Japan plans to use My Number identification cards beyond social security and taxation to track disaster victims’ evacuation status, the Japan Times reports.“We want to facilitate the response of local governments and residents in the event of a disaster,” said Digital Transformation Minister Taro Kono at a news conference. The report further highlights that this initiative aims to streamline the management of evacuation centers and the distribution of relief supplies. By encouraging residents to carry their digital identity My Number cards and preparing spare cards for emergencies, the Japanese government seeks to improve disaster response efficiency. This system also eliminates the need for victims to repeatedly provide personal information, facilitating smoother operations during crises, officials say.NID rollout planning in West New Britain-West New Britain in Papua New Guinea has allocated 1 million Papua New Guinean Kina (roughly US$257,000) to support the National Identification (NID) card project. The provincial government says the funding will allow it to register all citizens by 2027, ensuring comprehensive data collection for effective planning and service delivery, The National reports. The province intends to use mobile registration kits that will take the NID to remote areas, to make it compulsory for identity processes. Additionally, this move seeks to combine NID registration into the biometric voting system in future elections which would heighten the credibility and security of the electoral process. Governor Sasindran Muthuvel presented a K900,000 ($231,000) cheque to the national  civil and identity registry (PNGCIR), in part to fund the procurement of 20 mobile registration kits, after signing an (MoU) in Port Moresby. Muthuvel states that complete NID registration is critical for effective planning and service delivery.

Biometrics entering everyday activities via rising technologies-Jun 15, 2024, 12:49 pm ED| Chris Burt

Biometrics underpin the new technologies that people will soon use on a daily basis for everything from payments to age checks to public services, as seen in the most-read articles of the week on Biometric Update. Mastercard is moving to passkeys for online transactions, New York is launching mDLs with Idemia technology, Yoti is rolling out on Facebook for age estimation and digital wallets are shifting consumer interactions towards a decentralized architecture.  Meanwhile Incode has struck the industry’s latest acquisition deal.Mastercard is planning to tokenize all online transactions in Europe by 2030, eliminating the need for consumers to enter payment card numbers when they make ecommerce purchases. Instead, people will use passkeys, and merchants Click to Pay, the checkout system Mastercard says it is making easier to integrate. The result, the payments giant says, will be seamless, accessible and secure interactions across digital channels.Aviation stakeholders shared their vision for and experiences with biometrics and AI at IATA’s big industry event last week, while deployments expand around the world. TSA has added another PreCheck application point and CAT-2 biometric scanners have reached two more airports. Curacao is implementing biometric pre-verification, and self-bag drop is live at Kempegowda International in India, but airlines are concerned the EU is moving too fast with its EES.Canada’s privacy regulator has asked for public input on age assurance guidelines. Meanwhile across the Southern border, laws are drawing legal challenges (in Indiana) and criticism on constitutional and free speech grounds (Mississippi, Tennessee), but still being passed (New York). The market is already moving, with Meta introducing Yoti’s biometric facial age estimation for Facebook users in Australia last week as the first step in a global rollout.Testing and assessments of biometric technologies are proliferating, in a sign of the industry’s maturity. But as Idemia’s Terresa Wu explained in a webinar, buyers of the technology still face a challenge in understanding how to evaluate characteristics like accuracy and demographic differentials relative to each other. Ultimately, Idemia recommends a procurement framework with six criteria.Mobile driver’s licenses are launching in New York with a dedicated app from Idemia. New York’s mDL is based on the ISO standard and expected to be accepted by a range of government agencies and businesses, beginning with all TSA checkpoints at airports with CAT-2 biometric scanners.A pair of bills to restrict the use of biometrics in New York City were discussed in a public hearing on Monday, with Robert Tappan of the IBIA and Jake Parker of the SIA representing the biometrics industry. Inverid and Cybernetica team up to secure digital ID, signatures with biometric MFA-Partnership targets governments and financial institutions-Jun 14, 2024, 4:54 pm EDT| Chris Burt

A new partnership has been formed by Inverid and Cybernetica to combine the NFC ID document-scanning capabilities of the former with the digital identity technologies demonstrated in the latter’s experience as part of Estonia’s national system. The partners plan to bring biometric multi-factor authentication to digital identities for government and financial services organizations.Combined services from Inverid and Cybernetica will enable individuals to perform digital signing and authentication from any smartphone to the highest regulatory standard and cybersecurity certifications in the European Union, according to the announcement. The solution is easy for organizations to integrate, and protects individual’s digital identities from the threat of generative AI attacks, the partners say.Inverid’s ReadID provides a high level of assurance for identity binding to a biometric digital identity document with an NFC chip, verifying the document’s authenticity with secure, cryptographic methods which are deterministic rather than probabilistic. Inverid says ReadID is the most secure identity verification solution available in the market, protecting against fraud, identity theft and other cybercrimes. The secured digital identity can then be used for authentication and digital signatures through Cybernetica’s technology. The partners are targeting organizations in the EMEA, LATAM and APAC regions with their joint solutions.“We are very excited about our partnership with Inverid and a have already integrated Inverid’s ReadID solution into our SplitKey+ product, along with iProov, to provide a best-in-class digital identity mobile application that covers remote enrollment, multi factor authentication across inherence, knowledge & possession factors whilst providing a qualified electronic signature,” Michael Buckland, head of digital identity technologies at Cybernetica told Biometric Update in an email. “Inverid’s solution, coupled with our and other partners technology brings to the market a robust solution with the highest levels of trust and assurance.”Like Cybernetica, which is building the interface of Estonia’s digital wallet, Inverid’s software is integrated with iProov’s biometric liveness detection.

Mastercard commits to passkeys for payment, full tokenization in EU by 2030-Jun 12, 2024, 6:31 pm EDT    | Joel R. McConvey

As the EU gallops into the digital wallet era, Mastercard is going full-token, as it announces a plan to achieve 100 percent e-commerce tokenization in Europe by the end of the decade. A company release says the move supports a global commitment to phase out manual card entry and make online checkout more accessible and secure.Payment passkeys and secure tokens are driving the change. Tokenization replaces the 16-19-digit number on payment cards with a secure token. Passkeys leverage mobile device-based biometric authentication to avoid passwords in favor of cryptographic technology.  The idea is to create a seamless customer payment experience across devices, browsers and operating systems.Mastercard’s tokenization service secures a quarter of all e-commerce transactions globally, as users discover the benefits of turning  everyday technology, such as phones and cars, into biometric payment platforms.“In Europe we have seen tokenization gaining momentum across the ecosystem, the convenience and reduced rates of fraud sell themselves,” says Valerie Nowak, executive vice president of product and innovation for Mastercard Europe. “We are confident that reaching this vision by 2030 is a win-win-win for shoppers, retailers and the card issuers alike.”Mastercard is also improving integration of its Click to Pay system into merchant sites, to expedite faster and safer checkouts, increase sales and protect against fraud.

A FALSE PROPHET COMES FROM THE VATICAN ALSO AT THIS TIME.

ISAIAH 23:15-17
15  And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot.
16  Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.
17  And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.(COULD THIS BE 70 YEARS AFTER ISRAEL BECAME A NATION IN 1948)(IF SO THIS SATANIC ONE WORLD WHORE CHURCH WILL MINGLE TOGETHER BY 2018)(AND NOW ISLAM AND CHRISTIANITY AND ALL RELIGIONS ARE MINGLING AS ONE PEACE-LOVE-JOY-GET ALONG RELIGION LEAD BY THE VATICAN RIGHT NOW 4 YEARS FROM THE 70 YEAR TIME WHEN ISRAEL BECAME A NATION).AND IN CONTROL OF JERUSALEM.

REVELATION 13:11-18
11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth;(FALSE VATICAN POPE) and he had two horns like a lamb,(JESUS IS THE LAMB OF GOD) and he spake as a dragon.(HES SATANICALLY INSPIRED,HES A CHRISTIAN DEFECTOR FROM THE FAITH)
12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him,(WORLD DICTATOR) and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.(THE WORLD DICTATOR CREATES A FALSE RESURRECTION AND IS CROWNED LEADER OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER).
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16 And he(FALSE POPE) causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:(CHIP IMPLANT)
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.(6-6-6) A NUMBER SYSTEM

REVELATION 17:1-18
1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication,(VATICAN IN POLITICS) and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman (FALSE CHURCH) was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour,(VATICAN COLOURS)(ANOTHER REASON WE KNOW THE FALSE POPE COMES FROM THE VATICAN) and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.(THE VATICAN IS BUILT ON 7 HILLS OR MOUNTAINS)
10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen,(1-ASSYRIA,2-EGYPT,3-BABYLON,4-MEDO-PERSIA,5-GREECE) and one is,(IN POWER IN JOHNS AND JESUS DAY-6-ROME) and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.(7TH-REVIVED ROMAN EMPIRE OR THE EUROPEAN UNION TODAY AND THE SHORT SPACE IS-THE EUROPEAN UNION WILL HAVE WORLD CONTROL FOR THE LAST 3 1/2 YEARS.BUT WILL HAVE ITS MIGHTY WORLD POWER FOR THE FULL 7 YEARS OF THE 7 YEAR TRIBULATION PERIOD.AND THE WORLD DICTATOR WILL BE THE BEAST FROM THE EU.AND THE VATICAN POPE WILL BE THE WHORE THAT RIDES THE EUROPEAN UNION TO POWER.AND THE 2 EUROPEAN UNION POWER FREAKS WILL CONTROL AND DECIEVE THE WHOLE EARTH INTO THEIR DESTRUCTION.IF YOU ARE NOT SAVED BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS.YOU WILL BE DECIEVED BY THESE TWO.THE WORLD POLITICIAN-THE EUROPEAN UNION DICTATOR.AND THE FALSE PROPHET THAT DEFECTS CHRISTIANITY-THE FALSE VATICAN POPE.
11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.
12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.(VATICAN-CATHOLICS ALL AROUND THE WORLD OVER 1 BILLION)
16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast,(WORLD DICTATOR) these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

IN REV 13 :11-18 WE SEE POPE FRANCIS NOT ONLY IS THE BEST FRIEND OF THE EUROPEAN UNION DICTATOR. BUT YOU CAN SAY POPE FRANCIS WORSHIPS THIS EUROPEAN UNION DICTATOR HIMSELF. AFTER THE EUROPEAN WORLD  LEADER HAS A FALSE RESSURECTION AND COMES BACK TO LIFE. Heavenly humor-Pope Francis tells visiting comedians it’s okay to ‘laugh at God’Pontiff hosts group of comic actors, including many prominent names, for reception at Vatican hailing the importance of humor: ‘You also make God smile’By Giada Zampano 14 June 2024, 8:54 pm

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Before flying to Italy’s southern Puglia region to meet world leaders at the Group of Seven summit, Pope Francis hosted a very different audience at the Vatican on Friday celebrating the importance of humor. The pontiff welcomed more than 100 comedians from 15 nations, including American celebrities Whoopi Goldberg, Jimmy Fallon, Chris Rock, Stephen Colbert and Conan O’Brien.“In the midst of so much gloomy news, immersed as we are in many social and even personal emergencies, you have the power to spread peace and smiles,” Francis told the comedians.“You unite people, because laughter is contagious,” he continued, asking jokingly, “Please pray for me: for, not against!”Francis pointed out that in the creation, “Divine wisdom practiced your art for the benefit of none other than God himself, the first spectator in history,” with God delighting in the works that he had made.“Remember this,” he added. “When you manage to bring intelligent smiles to the lips of even a single spectator, you also make God smile.”Francis also said it was okay to “laugh at God” in the same way that “we play and joke with the people we love.”After delivering his speech, Francis greeted all the comedians individually, sharing laughs and jokes with some of them.“It was great, it was very fast and really loving, and made me happy,” Goldberg said afterward.O’Brien noted that the pope “spoke in Italian, so I’m not quite sure what was said.”“To be in that room and to be with all my fellow comedians, some of whom I’ve been good friends with for many years, in that environment, was quite strange,” the TV host added. “All of us were thinking, how did this happen? Why are we here, and when are they going to throw us out?”Colbert admitted his Italian “is really bad, I would like to speak it better.” But he managed to remind the pope that he had done the audiobook for his memoir.“It was wonderful, he’ll never forget me,” he joked.

Pope to G7: AI is ‘neither objective nor neutral’In an address to the G7 summit, Pope Francis discusses the threat and promise of artificial intelligence, the ‘techno-human condition’, human vs algorithmic decision-making, AI-written essays, and the necessity of political collaboration on technology.By Joseph Tulloch-On Friday afternoon, Pope Francis addressed the G7 leaders’ summit in Puglia, Italy. He is the first Pope to ever address the forum, which brings together the leaders of the US, UK, Italy, France, Canada, Germany, and Japan.AI: Dangers and promises

The Pope dedicated his address to the G7 to the subject of artificial intelligence. He began by saying that the birth of AI represents “a true cognitive-industrial revolution” which will lead to “complex epochal transformations”.These transformations, the Pope said, have the potential to be both positive  – for example, the  “democratization of access to knowledge”, the “exponential advancement of scientific research”, and a reduction in “demanding and arduous work” – and negative – for instance, “greater injustice between advanced and developing nations or between dominant and oppressed social classes.”The ’techno-human condition’Noting that AI is “above all a tool”, the Pope spoke of what he called the “techno-human condition”.He explained that he was referring to the fact that humans’ relationship with the environment has always been mediated by the tools that they have produced. Some, the Pope said, see this as a weakness, or a deficiency; however, he argued, it is in fact something positive. It stems, he said, from the fact that we are beings “inclined to what lies outside of us”, beings “radically open to the beyond.”This openness, Pope Francis said, is both the root of our “techno-human condition” and the root of our openness to others and to God, as well as the root of our artistic and intellectual creativity.Decision-making: humans v machines-The Pope then moved on to the subject of decision-making.He said that AI is capable of making “algorithmic choices” – that is, “technical” choices “among several possibilities based either on well-defined criteria or on statistical inferences”.Human beings, however, “not only choose, but in their hearts are capable of deciding.”This is because, the Pope explained, they are capable of wisdom, of what the Ancient Greeks called phronesis (a type of intelligence concerned with practical action), and of listening to Sacred Scripture. It is thus very important, the Pope stressed, that important decisions must “always be left to the human person.”As an example of this principle, the Pope pointed to the development of lethal autonomous weapons – which can take human life with no human input – and said that they must ultimately be banned.Algorithms 'neither objective nor neutral'The Pope also stressed that the algorithms used by artificial intelligence to arrive at choices are “neither objective nor neutral.”He pointed to the algorithms designed to help judges in deciding whether to grant home-confinement to prison inmates. These programmes, he said, make a choice based on data such as the type of offence, behaviour in prison, psychological assessment, and the prisoner’s ethnic origin, educational attainment, and credit rating. However, the Pope stressed, this is reductive: “human beings are always developing, and are capable of surprising us by their actions.  This is something that a machine cannot take into account.”A further problem, the Pope emphasised, is that algorithms “can only examine realities formalised in numerical terms:”The Pope then turned to consider the fact that many students are increasingly relying on AI to help them with their studies, and in particular, with writing essays. It is easy to forget, the Pope said, that “strictly speaking, so-called generative artificial intelligence is not really ‘generative’” – it does not “develop new analyses or concepts” but rather “repeats those that it finds, giving them an appealing form.”This, the Pope said, risks “undermining the educational process itself”.Education, he emphasised, should offer the chance for “authentic reflection”, but instead “runs the risk of being reduced to a repetition of notions, which will increasingly be evaluated as unobjectionable, simply because of their constant repetition.”Towards an “algor-ethics”Bringing his speech to a close, the Pope emphasised that AI is always shaped by “the worldview of those who invented and developed it.”A particular concern in this regard, he said, is that today it is “increasingly difficult to find agreement on the major issues concerning social life”  - there is less and less consensus, that is, regarding the philosophy that should be shaping artificial intelligence. What is necessary, therefore, the Pope said, is the development of an “algor-ethics”, a series of “global and pluralistic” principles which are “capable of finding support from cultures, religions, international organizations and major corporations.”“If we struggle to define a single set of global values,” the Pope said, we can at least “find shared principles with which to address and resolve dilemmas or conflicts regarding how to live.”A necessary politics-Faced with this challenge, the Pope said, “political action is urgently needed.”“Only a healthy politics, involving the most diverse sectors and skills”, the Pope stressed, is capable of dealing with the challenges and promises of artificial intelligence. The goal, Pope Francis concluded, is not “stifling human creativity and its ideals of progress” but rather “directing that energy along new channels.”
