EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton joined the U.S. on Friday in criticizing Israel, both over its plan to build in Beit El as well as over the tensions this week on the Temple Mount, AFP reports."The High Representative is concerned by developments over the past week in East Jerusalem and the West Bank
which have increased tensions on the ground and risk undermining
current efforts to re-launch peace talks," Ashton’s office in Brussels
said in a statement quoted by AFP."It is important that those concerned exercise maximum restraint and refrain from any actions which could drive the sides to the conflict further apart," added the statement.The communiqué said Ashton was "disturbed by recent events in East
Jerusalem such as those that took place at Orthodox Easter, the unrest
in the area of the Haram al Sharif/Temple Mount and the temporary
detention of the Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine on Wednesday."Israeli police had questioned and released Jerusalem's most senior Muslim cleric, Mufti Mohammed Hossein, for suspected involvement in throwing chairs at a group of Jews on the Temple Mount.Ashton’s statement underlined that it was "essential that access to
the holy sites in Jerusalem for peaceful worship for all denominations
is fully respected." It made no mention of the fact that the Waqf, which
was left in charge of the Temple Mount after it was liberated by Israel

Russia is not planning to supply Syria with any weapons beyond the
current contracts that are nearing completion, Russian Foreign Minister
Sergey Lavrov said on Friday, according to a report in RT News.
Lavrov was refuting speculations that Moscow was going to sell S-300 air defense systems to Damascus. The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday that Israel has warned the United States that Russia plans to sell these advanced weapons to Syria, and that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke with U.S. President Barack Obama to make him aware of the deal.“Russia does not plan to sell,” Lavrov told reporters, upon being asked on S-300 air defense systems rumors. He stressed that Russia has only been fulfilling contracts that have already been signed with Syria for defensive weapons.On Thursday, the White House urged Russia not to sell weapons to Syria, saying that such assistance to Damascus is "particularly destabilizing to the region."“I think we’ve made it crystal clear we would prefer that Russia was not supplying assistance ” to the Syrian regime in its war against opposition forces, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said in Rome Thursday, according to RT.Kerry did not directly respond to the Wall Street Journal report, but said the United States has repeatedly opposed arms deals in the past. Thursday morning. The man is Shai Malka, Director of the Manhigut

The terrorists threw a large rock at Malka's car as it drove down Route 60, from a truck that was speeding down the road in the opposite direction. The same method of attack was used to murder Asher Palmer and his baby son Yonatan, in September of 2011, in the same region."Thank G-d," wrote Malka on his Facebook page. "This is the rock that was thrown at me in the noontime hours from a passing truck on Route 60, about 200 meters north of Har Manoah at Har Hevron."Miraculously, the rock only hit a tire and not the window. Russia says it will keep selling missiles to Syria

BEIRUT (AP) — Russia defended its sales of anti-aircraft systems to the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, just days after joining forces with the U.S. for a new push to end Syria's civil war through negotiations.Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov
avoided saying whether those sales included advanced S-300 batteries.
Israel has asked Russia to cancel what it said was the imminent sale of
the S-300 missiles, portrayed by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry as
destabilizing to Israel's security.The S-300s would make it harder
for the U.S. and other countries to even consider intervening militarily
or enforcing a no-fly zone in Syria.
The U.S. has urged Russia — an Assad ally along with China, Iran and
the Lebanese Hezbollah militia — to cut off weapons supplies to Syria.Despite such disagreements, Russia and the U.S. decided this week to
convene an international conference to bring representatives of the
Assad regime and the opposition to the negotiating table. Such talks
would aim at setting up a transitional government. No date has been set.The regime and the Syrian opposition have welcomed the idea, but with
conditions. The opposition says talks can only begin once Assad and his
aides have left. The regime says it will keep fighting the rebels,
without saying at which stage it would be willing to halt its fire.The civil war, which began as a popular uprising against Assad in
March 2011, has killed tens of thousands of Syrians and displaced
several million. The two sides are deadlocked, though the regime has
scored recent military gains.On Friday, the U.N. commissioner for human rights, Navi Pillay, raised alarm over the western rebel-held town of Qusair, close to Lebanon, which has been besieged by Syrian troops for several weeks.Pillay said her team reported a major troop buildup in the area and
noted that an increasing number of residents were being displaced.The commissioner said she fears atrocities if Qusair is overrun. Last week, regime forces were blamed for killing dozens of civilians in Banias and Bayda, two communities in western Syria."It appears likely that this (the troop buildup) is in preparation
for a large-scale attack to uproot the armed opposition from Qusair, and
local people clearly fear a possible repeat of last week's killings of
civilians," she said in a statement.The Syrian military dropped leaflets over Qusair, urging rebel
fighters to surrender, but did not set a deadline for them to do so,
according to the office of the Homs governor.Rebels have lost ground in the area since a Hezbollah-backed government offensive there last month.Bassam al-Dada, an official in the rebels' Free Syrian Army, said
Friday that more pro-regime forces have been streaming to Qusair, a town
of more than 20,000 people south of the city of Homs.Hezbollah fighters have shelled the town, hitting the main water tank
and filtration station, and rebel fighters have responded, al-Dada said
by phone from Turkey.Qusair is important to the regime because the area links the capital
of Damascus with the coastal region, where regime loyalists are
concentrated. This includes Alawites, followers of an offshoot of Shiite
Islam to which the Assad family also belongs. The rebellion against
Assad is largely driven by Syria's majority Sunni Muslims.By holding Qusair, rebels have been impeding the regime's military
movement and supply chain, said Bilal Saab, director of the Institute
for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis, North America. He said he
believes the regime is trying to regain as much ground as possible
before any negotiations with the opposition on a transition.Previous attempts to solve the conflict peacefully have run aground,
but Saab said this initiative might have a better chance because both

million for four batteries, six launchers and 144 operational missiles.
The missiles have a range of 125 miles, the newspaper reported, citing

arriving over the next three months.The S-300 batteries can target manned planes, drones and incoming
missiles, and would be a state-of-the-art upgrade of Syria's aging

Lavrov was refuting speculations that Moscow was going to sell S-300 air defense systems to Damascus. The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday that Israel has warned the United States that Russia plans to sell these advanced weapons to Syria, and that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke with U.S. President Barack Obama to make him aware of the deal.“Russia does not plan to sell,” Lavrov told reporters, upon being asked on S-300 air defense systems rumors. He stressed that Russia has only been fulfilling contracts that have already been signed with Syria for defensive weapons.On Thursday, the White House urged Russia not to sell weapons to Syria, saying that such assistance to Damascus is "particularly destabilizing to the region."“I think we’ve made it crystal clear we would prefer that Russia was not supplying assistance ” to the Syrian regime in its war against opposition forces, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said in Rome Thursday, according to RT.Kerry did not directly respond to the Wall Street Journal report, but said the United States has repeatedly opposed arms deals in the past. According to intelligence reports, Russia sent several S-300 batteries and spare parts in 2011, to help Assad fight the rebels who had begun attacking the regime.He reiterated the U.S. position against transfers of missile systems to Syria because of the possible threat to Israel.Russia and the U.S. have in a deadlock over the Syrian conflict and thus far failed to agree on an approach to resolve the two-year long crisis in the war-torn country.While Washington insists that Assad and his regime must step down, Moscow maintains that only the Syrian people should decide and foreign interference should not be the determining factor.Kerry, who visited Russia this week, spoke with both Lavrov and President Vladimir Putin. Car bombs kill 40 in Turkey near Syrian border

(Reuters) - Twin car bombs killed around 40 people and wounded many
more in a Turkish town near the Syrian border on Saturday and Turkey
said it suspected Syrian involvement.The bombing increased fears that Syria's
civil war was dragging in neighboring states despite renewed diplomatic
moves towards ending fighting in which more than 70,000 people have
been killed.The bombs ripped into crowded streets in the early afternoon in Reyhanli, scattering cars and concrete blocks in the town in Turkey's southern Hatay province, home to thousands of Syrian refugees.President Bashar al-Assad's administration was the "usual suspect" in the attacks, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said.
"We know that the people taking refuge in Hatay have
become targets for the Syrian regime," Arinc said in comments broadcast
on Turkish television. "We think of them as the usual suspects when it
comes to planning such a horrific attack."There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Nor was there any comment from Damascus.NATO member Turkey supports the uprising against Assad
and violence has crossed the border before, but not on the same scale.Turkey is far from alone in fearing the impact of
Syria's war, which is already helping inflame the Middle East's tangle
of sectarian, religious and nationalist struggles.Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said it was no coincidence the bombings came as diplomatic moves to end the Syrian conflict intensify."There may be those who want to sabotage Turkey's
peace, but we will not allow that," Davutoglu told reporters during a
trip to Berlin. "No-one should attempt to test Turkey's power."Prospects appeared to improve this week for diplomacy over the civil war, now in its third year, after Moscow and Washington announced a joint effort to bring government and rebels to an international conference.But a Russian official said on Saturday that there was already disagreement over who would take part and he doubted whether a meeting could happen this month.As well as disputes over who would represent the rebels and government at any talks, there have also been questions over possible participation by Assad's Shi'ite ally Iran. The rebels are backed by the largely Sunni Gulf states.Diplomats in New York said the Syria meeting would likely slip into June and it was unclear who would participate.

In Reyhanli, smoke poured from charred ruins after the blasts outside administrative buildings."My children were so scared because it reminded them of the bombings when we were in Aleppo. God help us," said one refugee, a mother of three who gave her name as Kolsum.Arinc said around 40 people had been killed, while Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan warned the toll could rise with many more seriously injured.Erdogan said the bombings might have been related to Turkey's own peace process with Kurdish militants of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), who began a withdrawal this week to end a three decade conflict.

Gabon: Thousands march against ritual killings

LIBREVILLE, Gabon (AP) — Thousands of Gabonese people marched to protest ritual killings, in which people are murdered so their body parts can be used in amulets to bring good luck. Sylvia Bongo Ondimba, Gabon's first lady, led the event Saturday along with Christian and Muslim religious leaders.The president of the Association for the Fight against Ritual Crimes, Elvis Ebang Ondo,
estimates that Gabon has 20 mutilation killings a year. He said there
are more such killings in election years, as some people seek amulets to
win government positions.The marchers presented a declaration to President Ali Bongo Ondimba, urging him to fight the crime.Police dispersed a separate march by a group opposed to the participation of the first lady.

Top 10 Amazing Facts of Mormonism

On Sunday, February 25, 2007, Meet the Press had an interesting roundtable discussion on Mormonism that reflected the abundance of their journalistic ignorance. What
I found particularly amusing (choosing humor in lieu of intense
frustration) was their patronizing comment that Christians know very
little about Mormonism. They
proceeded to cite a recent poll that showed 45% of Evangelicals view
Mormonism negatively (although the source of the poll was fuzzy). This seemed a bit illogical, since Christians must know something for the negative percentage to be so high. No
mention was made of the unique Mormon beliefs that might cause millions
of rational souls to view them with a healthy dose of skepticism.
After
pondering the wisdom of the media elite (or lack thereof), I decided to
research a short list of Mormon facts to help guide them through the
dense jungle of Mormon Doctrine:
Top 10 Amazing Facts of Mormonism
- Mormons can become gods and goddesses.
- Goddesses will spend eternity in full submission to their god-husband.
- Mormon women will give birth "forever and ever" to spirit-babies.
- Mormon men can have multiple wives in heaven-eternal polygamy.
- Heavenly Father is an exalted man who lives with his goddess wife, Heavenly Mother, on a planet near the great star Kolob.
- American Indians are descendants of the wicked Lamanites, who were Israelites that God cursed with dark skin.
- God the Father had sex with Mary to conceive Jesus, who is the half brother of Lucifer.
- All Christian churches are an abomination.
- Mormons need 4 secret handshakes to get into the Celestial heaven.
- Joseph Smith revealed that the actual Garden of Eden is in Jackson County, Missouri.
And so you see, 45% of Christians know what thousands of the media elite do not: Mormonism is not Christian.
