CHINA WORRIES S KOREA-US EXERCISES

Israel at the Rubicon by Sean Osborne, Associate Director

15 August 2010: After years of endless debate, delayed decisions, additional deliberations, bald-faced lies and disinformation, followed by economic sanctions packages piled upon other ineffective economic sanctions packages, coupled with incessant Iranian and Western bellicose rhetoric which would have been considered casus belli in years gone by, the announcement made on Friday by Sergei Novikov, the spokesman for the Russian Federal Atomic Energy Agency (Rosatom), that the fueling of the Iranian Bushehr nuclear plant will commence on Saturday, 21 August has left the State of Israel standing on the southern bank of a literal River Rubicon. In the absense of a decision by Western governments, the United States of America in particular, to back up its own rhetoric with concrete actions, Israel has been left holding the baggage containing approximately 144 hours of time. At the conclusion of those 144 hours it will have become irreversibly too late for military action to halt Iran and its current apocalyptic regime’s nuclear weapons program. This is the conventional wisdom being related by many subject matter experts in the past 36 hours, experts such as former Ambassador John Bolton. Bolton’s comments to FoxNews last Friday speak of just such a window of time remaining.

However, there’s another window no one is openly considering, a window that may likely already have closed. The name of this window is Russian nuclear technicians at Bushehr. Those Russian technicians effectively consistute a human shield guarding against a pre-emptive Israeli strike on the Bushehr reactor complex. Not to mention the Russian VIPs who will begin arriving on-site at the Bushehr complex for the opening cermonies prior to the end of the 144 hours.Short of starting a war with Russia, the physical presence of Russian technicians at Bushehr affords Israel no option but to focus its contingency plans against deeply buried Iranian enrichment cascades, weaponization plants and delivery systems as well as the suppression of Iran’s military retaliation capabilities. The Iranian response to an Israel air assault also includes thousands of missiles, some of them likely tipped with biological or chemical weapons in Lebanon (Hezbollah) and Syria, as well as an Iranian assault against commerical shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Have I just described a recipe for an armgeddon-like scenario to unfold in the Middle East? No doubt about it. This is precisely the type of scenario the leaders of apocalyptic Iran want more than anything. Great chess players those Iranians. So here stands Israel on the southern bank of the River Rubicon with virtually no time left to ponder her next move. Irregardless of the next action taken this world will never be the same, and only the ancient Biblical prophets have told us what lies ahead.

Hugh Betcha to Build Gay Bar near Ground Zero Mosque
By William Kevin Stoos Sunday, August 15, 2010 CFP

Hugh Betcha, Ace Reporter for the Stoos Views Media Congolomerate in beautiful downtown Wynstone, South Dakota—where the air is clean, the crime rate low, the values are good and the people vote red—recently announced a new venture in New York City. Hugh, the Chief of the Alternate Lifestyles and Tolerance Bureau of Stoos Views, moved to tears by the goodwill and tolerance displayed by Mayor Bloomberg and President Obama toward the proposed Ground Zero Mosque soon to be built in the Big Apple, and desirous of promoting tolerance of gay men and women around the world, recently announced that he has been granted permission by the New York City Zoning Commission to open a gay night club across the street from the Ground Zero Mosque. I was so moved my the outpouring of tolerance and understanding displayed by the Mayor and President Obama as they vigorously defended the right of the Muslims to build the Ground Zero Mosque near the place where 3,000 Americans were slaughtered by radical Islamists, that I thought now is the time to promote tolerance of the gay lifestyle—something that is sorely lacking in the Muslim world,Hugh announced to a packed room of reporters. After all, since they have no gays in Iran, according to Ahmadinejad—either because they killed or jailed them all—and since gays in other Muslim countries are persecuted, tortured, and killed for their lifestyle, I thought, hey, what better way to educate the world on tolerance of our gay brothers and sisters? he continued.

That way, when Ahmadinejad comes to visit New York again and make another of his many speeches here, he can stop by, worship at the Ground Zero Mosque, then come over, sample the cuisine, and dance a little. Perhaps he will change his mind about gays. Rumor has it that he is bisexual and cross dresses in the privacy of his own home, so perhaps we can even get him to come out of the closet.Asked what the new business will entail, Hugh replied: “We will cater to the gay, lesbian and transgender crowd, but all are welcome—Saudi Princes who finance terrorism, radical Jew-hating leaders like Ahmadinejad, and anyone else. That is what tolerance is all about. Like Obama said, in America a landowner has a perfect right to build whatever he wants on his property. So, all are welcome. We will feature pork hotdogs and pork tenderloins, all served on our famous Tali-buns, in order to promote good ole fashion Midwestern pork products and American agriculture. We will also feature our special house drink—the Pork Martini. My bartender, Tom Cook, thought that one up and the idea stuck. People love them.Isn’t that a little insensitive? an MSNBC reporter asked Hugh. Won’t some Muslims be offended by a gay bar across the street, featuring a pork menu and pork drinks? Well, as the President said this week, it is not a matter of whether we should—but whether we can. Like the Ground Zero Mosque, it is not a matter of whether they should, but whether they can. Yes we can! So we will. In time, we are certain those who finance, build, and attend the Ground Zero Mosque will grow to love alcohol drinking, pork-eating, gay persons, just like New Yorkers will learn to love and respect the idea of a Ground Zero Mosque being built close to the site where radical Islamists killed 3,000 of our fellow countrymen. Tolerance is the thing…and it works both ways. There is no other way to teach respect for those with different views. Like the President said this week—we must tolerate persons of different faiths, beliefs, lifestyles and genders. That is what American is all about.Asked by a reporter whether Hugh had talked to his buddy, President Obama, about the proposed gay bar, Hugh replied:Of course, we had a beer summit at the White House a couple nights ago, got totally faced with the President and he—being a tolerant person—immediately warmed up to the idea. Bloomberg too.

What did the President say? Right after he and Bloomberg pray at the grand opening of the new Ground Zero Mosque, they are going to come over to The Weiner Hut, eat some dogs and do a little dancing.2010 William Kevin Stoos.

Obama’s forceful support of Ground Zero Mosque already changing
By Judi McLeod Sunday, August 15, 2010 CFP

Doesn’t the look on Obama’s face in today’s Drudge Report cover story, detailing that Obama is forcefully approving the Ground Zero Mosque, say it all? In the caption of the Drudge photo, Obama in effect, wishes us all As-Salumu Alaykum from the White House. At least he’s not shouting Alu Akbar! Yet.Nineteen months on, Barack and Michelle seem to be flouting an if looks could kill lifestyle.

Problem is that no matter how hard anybody tries, looks don’t kill.

The best advice for dealing with President Community Organizer and his self-centered First Lady comes directly from the commonsense rules of Alcoholics Anonymous, always there to remind us that raging drunks perform best in front of a captive audience. As soon as it is safe to do so, remove yourself from the scene, is sound AA advice. Not good enough for Barack Obama to totally Transform America or to trash the Constitution, in typical Marxist style, he has to do everything to demoralize the common people he regards as the enemy; to leave them in abject despair. But Americans remain in focus and keep their eyes turned to November. The heat wave sapping energy in so many places will soon be replaced by Fall’s cooler temperatures; the green will turn into the red and gold pageant of Fall. As sure as sunrise, November is coming, and Obama’s time clock is ticking just like anybody else’s.Fighting Obama starts with the same strategy as dealing with the attention-demanding alcoholic. It starts by not providing him an audience. For after 19 long months, there is nothing new under the sun about Barack Hussein Obama.

His repeated, un-American attacks on America have never changed.

Many knew before he forcefully, strongly endorsed the Ground Zero Mosque that he seemed to much prefer the Islamic way to the Christian one.Comical to see him trying to backpedal his way out of the forceful endorsement of the Mosque from yet another vacation. His constant use of Let me be clear has never been more clear.Actions always speak so much louder than words. Especially the words of Marxist politicians with Messiah delusions. The name of the game looms large on the horizon: Tune Obama out, then vote him out by defeating as many of his Dem and RINO supporters as possible on November 2.What’s that you say about the midterms perhaps not even coming to pass? Americans will deal with that should some manufactured catastrophe postpone them. There are some who fear that even without the Dems and RINOS, Obama will just continue the Transformation of America through Executive Order.Americans will deal with that too. Then they will go out and get Obama in 2012 presidential elections.Even as the Obamas eat their way, vacation their way, spend their way and lob Friday night shocks at Americans and Freedom lovers everywhere, who count on the stability of America, the masses remain focused.Times are tough. It’s getting harder to hold onto jobs and to come up with mortgage and rent payments. But so, too, have good and decent people survived the tough times of the past.Folk can take heart that even in the struggle of survival times have changed dramatically since Nov. 4, 2008. And in the passing of ordinary time, which no one can change, everything has now come full circle. Average Americans and the Obamas have much in common. Call it Hope and Change.

Ground Zero mosque row stirs political storm by Michael Mathes - AUG 16,10

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Republicans pounced on US President Barack Obama's comments supporting the right to build a mosque near Ground Zero, painting him as out of touch less than three months before key mid-term elections.Democrats and Republicans squared off on whether it was appropriate for Obama to wade into the fray over the Islamic center, which would include a mosque and would be built two city blocks away from the site of the former World Trade Center. At a Friday Iftar dinner at the White House to mark Ramadan, Obama said Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country, including by building a mosque in lower Manhattan. But the next day Obama appeared to dial back from his support, clarifying that he was commenting on rights enshrined in the US Constitution and not on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there, a location he acknowledged as hallowed ground.Conservatives swiftly seized on Obama's comments, which came after the White House had for weeks declined comment on the controversy and deemed it local issue, and several prominent Republicans hammered home the message on Sunday political talk shows. This is not about freedom of religion, because we all respect the right of anyone to worship according to the dictates of their conscience, US Senator John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, said on Fox News Sunday. But I do think it's unwise... to build a mosque at the site where 3,000 Americans lost their lives as a result of a terrorist attack. And I think to me it demonstrates that Washington, the White House, the administration, the president himself seems to be disconnected from the mainstream of America.Construction of the center, a 100-million-dollar 13-storey glass and metal building to be built on private property, has been approved by city officials.

The hot-button issue has stirred raw emotions in the United States, which marks the ninth anniversary of the September 11 attacks next month, and Cornyn said he believes it might resonate with voters.I think this is sort of the dichotomy that people sense, that they're being lectured to, not listened to, and I think that's the reason why a lot of people are very upset with Washington,he said.A CNN/Opinion Research poll this month showed that 68 percent of Americans opposed the planned mosque, while only 29 percent favored it, although a majority did support the actual right of Muslims to build it.New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, an independent, threw his support behind the center, but few Democrats sounded openly enthusiastic about it Sunday.Senator Jack Reed, a Democrat, did not answer directly if he thought the mosque should be built, but said he supported its designed intention to provide interfaith communication and dialogue. But it can't be there, and I don't think it should be allowed to be there, if it's going to be some type of way to undercut the truth, the reality, of 9/11... which was an attack by fanatical Muslims against the United States, he told Fox News Sunday.Republican Representative Peter King of New York challenged Islamic leaders to listen to the deep wounds and anguish that this is causing to so many good people and consider moving the center to a site further away. This is such a raw wound and they are just pouring salt into it, King told CNN's State of the Union program.

On Friday, after Obama's announcement, King said the president caved in to political correctness.Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor who was the Republican vice presidential nominee in 2008, appeared to mock Obama over the mosque kerfuffle. We all know that they have the right to do it, but should they? she posed to Obama on her Twitter feed. This is not above your pay grade.A significant number of Americans hold suspicions about the president, according to poll figures. Obama is known to be a devoted Christian, but an online Harris poll conducted in March showed that 32 percent of Americans -- including 57 percent of Republicans -- believe Obama is a Muslim. Relatives of 9/11 victims are split over the mosque plans, with one major families group in favor and another opposed. Sally Regenhard, the mother of one of 343 firefighters killed at the World Trade Center, reportedly said Obama's Friday comments showed a gross lack of sensitivity to the 9/11 families and to the people who were lost.

Islam Means the End of Religious Freedom
By Daniel Greenfield Sunday, August 15, 2010 CFP

At an Iftar dinner in the White House, Barack Hussein Obama proclaimed that he supports the building of the Ground Zero mosque as part of his unshakable commitment to religious freedom. Which of course sounds very noble and good, until you ask a single question, Where is the religious freedom in the Muslim world? Obama has made the case for Islam in America, on the grounds that America’s religious diversity promotes the religious freedom of all. Islam no less than any other belief system. Yet if introducing Islam into America promotes religious freedom, then why is there no religious freedom in the Muslim world? Why are churches firebombed in Malaysia because Christians presumed to use the word Allah? Why are non-Muslims forbidden to enter the city of Mecca, from which Jews and Christians were ethnically cleansed by Mohammed? Why are Coptic Christians being oppressed and humiliated by the Egyptian government? Why are Muslims murdering Buddhist teachers in Thailand? There are a thousand examples, all of which add up to a single conclusion—Muslims demand religious freedom, yet are not willing to give it to others.Jews are fleeing European cities in record numbers because of Muslim persecution This has ominous implications for the prospects of religious freedom in America. Nor is this a theoretical issue. Jews are fleeing European cities in record numbers because of Muslim persecution. The recent case of Malmo, highlights the fact that Islam actually threatens religious diversity. Simply to protect themselves, Malmo’s 650 Jews were forced to spend half a million Kronor a year. The situation is much the same across Europe, as Jewish institutions are forced to become fortresses. What the Nazis did not succeed in accomplishing in Europe, the rise of Islam seems to be doing.

Nor are Christians safe, they are simply in the majority for now. But Christians and other religions were once in the majority in the Middle East. Until they were massacred and repressed by the tidal wave of Islam. Today the religions that were once a majority, whether it is Jews in Israel, Christians in Byzantium or Zoroastrians in Persia, have become oppressed minorities. Some may take comfort in the notion that It can’t happen here. But the fate of Europe’s Jews, shows that it can happen here. And that it is happening here.Religious freedom requires that the religions which enjoy it, agree to tolerate each other. If they do not, instead of religious freedom, there is a religious war.Looking at the religious map of the world today, Islam has grown in non-Muslim countries, while non-Muslims continue to dwindle in Muslim countries. And even the number of non-Muslim religious believers in non-Muslim countries dwindles, when Muslims are introduced into the equation. If Islam were a fish in a fish tank, it’s clear that it would be a piranha. If you put it into the fish tank, very soon you have a lot of Islamic piranhas and only a handful of other fish that survive, only because the piranhas need to keep some of them alive in order to feed on them. If you don’t like that picture, take an honest look at the Muslim world, with its dominant Muslim caste and inferior non-Muslims living in the cracks of their walls, and draw a better one.Over and over again, the rise of Islam has meant the eradication of religious freedom The question is do we want to import this into the United States? Because history and current events show that there is no better way to insure the end of religious freedom in the United States, than to introduce Islam into the picture. Over and over again, the rise of Islam has meant the eradication of religious freedom. And those who fail to learn from that past, will be doomed to repeat it.Obama attempted to position his remarks as being against religious intolerance, but yet he spoke in defense of religious intolerance. Because what greater act of religious intolerance could there than building a mosque in a place where Muslims had previously murdered 3000 Americans? Nor are such actions unique on the part of Muslims, who have routinely hijacked other people’s sacred areas and structures to make a statement about Islamic supremacism. If Islam were truly as tolerant as Obama claims, its adherents would not attempt to build a massive mosque complex that they do not actually need in this place.

And what of the Iftar dinner itself which Obama spoke at. The Iftar dinner is the nightly break in the fast of Ramadan. And what is Ramadan? It commemorates the revelation of the first verses of the Koran to Mohammed. And those first verses of the Koran conclude with, Guide us the straight way, not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger (such as the Jews), nor of those who went astray (such as the Christians). That same verses appears in the daily prayers of Muslims.Ramadan marks the beginning of Islam’s intolerance for other religions Seen in that light, Ramadan marks the beginning of Islam’s intolerance for other religions, as embodied in its scriptures. When Muslims schools teach pupils that Jews are apes and Christians are pigs, they are relying on the wellspring of hate already in the Koran. A non-Muslim country holding an event to mark any aspect of Ramadan is as mad as sheep celebrating their own slaughter.Let’s look at how some of the participants in Obama’s Iftar dinner embody that famous Islamic tolerance. There is Hassan Jaber, Executive Director of ACCESS. ACCESS paid for commercial driving lessons and attempts at hazardous material hauling certificates for two men convicted as part of the Detroit Al-Qaeda sleeper cell. Testimony at their trial revealed that the men planned to bomb the MGM Grand Casino and a host of other prominent US sites.(Debbie Schlussel). Access has funded a conference at which Sami Al Arian, of Islamic Jihad, spoke. There’s also Ingrid Mattson, who is against any reform of Islam and places loyalty to Islam before America. There’s MPAC’s Salam Al Marayat, who has defended Hezbollah who has been described as having disturbing sympathies for Islamic terrorists. Dalia Mogahed, an apologist for Sharia law and the subjugation of women. And those are only some of the names in attendance.

Finally let’s turn to Obama’s own enthusiasm for religious freedom. That enthusiasm was markedly absent when Caplin and Drysdale lawyers were intimidating conservative. churches. They even intimidated Jewish non-profit groups who wanted Palin to speak at an Anti-Ahmadinejad rally, by threatening their tax exempt status. Mortimer Caplin was a major supporter of Obama, and part of Obama for America. But Obama was not upset when his supporters were silencing the religious freedom of Christians and Jews.Which suggests that his Unshakable Commitment to Religious Freedom is actually rather shaky indeed. And appears to be reserved for Muslims. Which would reaffirm what Obama himself said in his own book; I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction. His endorsement of the Ground Zero mosque is another case of Obama standing with the Muslims and against Americans of all other faiths His endorsement of the Ground Zero mosque is another case of Obama standing with the Muslims and against Americans of all other faiths, who want the freedom to practice their religion in peace without harassment, persecution and violence from the followers of Islam, who believe that all other religions are invalid, and that all forms of government and law that are not governed by the Koran, have no right to exist.Religious Freedom must be defended, from all those who would take it away. The history of Islam is the history of genocide, oppression and ethnic cleansing practiced by Muslims against non-Muslims. Islam is the death blow to religious diversity and freedom. And nowhere better is that seen than Mecca, a city that was once a mecca for different religions, which is now barred to all but Muslims. Mecca is the Muslim ideal. And it exemplifies what they hope to accomplish.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, the Imam of the Grand Mosque of Mecca, has praised terrorism saying Allahu Akbar! These are signs of victory: Jihad has remained the only wining card and the light of hope in the hands of those sincere people among the Ummah. He has called Jews scum of the earth and rats of the world, Christians, cross-worshipers and filled with rotten ideas and poisonous culture and had similarly charming things to say of Hindus. This is how the world looks from Mecca, the heart of Islam. And this is why Islam and religious freedom are incompatible.Obama concluded his remarks by saying: And we can only achieve liberty and justice for all if we live by that one rule at the heart of every great religion, including Islam — that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us. But that is not the rule at the heart of Islam. And this is not the first time that he has tried to sell that particular lie. But Islam never equates Muslims with non-Muslims, as Obama pretends it does. Its offer of brotherhood is only open to fellow Muslims. Its tolerance is only for fellow Muslims. And that is at the heart of the problem. And it is why the rise of Islam means the end of liberty and justice for all. To stand for liberty and justice is to take a stand against Islamic bigotry.

Hurricane formation linked to sea color: study
Sun Aug 15, 4:26 pm ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) – A change in the color of the ocean could dramatically impact the number and intensity of hurricanes, according to US researchers.A team of researchers with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) ran computer simulations of such a change in the North Pacific, a region that accounts for more than half the world's hurricane-force winds. The main factor is the green tint ocean water takes when there are large concentrations of chlorophyll, a pigment that helps tiny organisms known as phytoplankton convert sunlight into food for the rest of the marine ecosystem. We think of the oceans as blue, but the oceans aren?t really blue, they're actually a sort of greenish color, said lead reseacher Anand Gnanadesikan in a statement released Friday. The fact that [the oceans] are not blue has a [direct] impact on the distribution of tropical cyclones, Gnanadesikan said.Without chlorophyll, sunlight penetrates deeper into the ocean, leaving the surface water cooler.Cold water in turn causes changes in air circulation patterns, forcing strong winds aloft, which tend to prevent thunderstorms from developing the necessary superstructure that allows them to grow into hurricanes, the researchers said.

Phytoplankton populations around the world have been declining over the last century, the reseachers said, citing recently published research. The study is to appear in an upcoming issue of the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

UN chief: Never seen anything like Pakistan floods By CHRIS BRUMMITT, Associated Press Writer – Sun Aug 15, 8:18 pm ET

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he has never seen anything like the flood disaster in Pakistan, and urged foreign donors to speed up assistance to the 20 million people affected.Ban's comments after surveying the devastation over the weekend reflect the concern of the international community about the unfolding disaster in Pakistan, which is battling al-Qaida and Taliban militants, has a weak and unpopular government, and an anemic economy propped up by international assistance. This has been a heart-wrenching day for me, Ban said Sunday after flying over the hard-hit areas with President Asif Ali Zardari. I will never forget the destruction and suffering I have witnessed today. In the past I have witnessed many natural disasters around the world, but nothing like this.Ban visited Myanmar after Cyclone Nargis devastated the country in May 2008, killing an estimated 138,000 people. He also flew to China's Sichuan province just days after an earthquake killed nearly 90,000 people in March 2008.The floods that began more than two weeks ago in Pakistan's mountainous northwest have now hit about one-quarter of the country, especially its agricultural heartland. While the death toll of 1,500 is relatively small, the scale of the flooding and number of people whose lives have been disrupted is staggering. The world body has appealed for an initial $460 million to provide relief, but only 20 percent has been given.

Once the floods recede, billions more will be needed for reconstruction and getting people back to work in the already-poor nation of 170 million people. The International Monetary Fund has warned that the floods could dent economic growth and fuel inflation.Waves of flood must be met with waves of support from the world, said Ban.I'm here to urge the world to step up assistance, he said.Zardari has been criticized for his response to the disaster, especially for going ahead with a state visit to Europe just as the crisis was unfolding. Zardari has visited victims twice since returning, but images of him at a family owned chateau while in France are likely to hurt him for months to come.In his first comments to the media since returning, he defended the government. The government has responded very responsibly, he said, saying the army, the police, the navy and officials were all working to relieve the suffering.I would appeal to the press to understand the magnitude of the disaster.Zardari said it would take up to two years for the country to recover.Ban said visa restrictions had been eased for humanitarian workers and they now could get visas on arrival at Pakistan airports. On Saturday, the prime minister said 20 million people had been made homeless in the disaster. The monsoon rains that triggered the disaster are forecast to fall for several weeks yet, meaning the worst may not yet be over. Over the weekend, tens of thousand of people were forced to flee their homes when they were inundated by fresh floods from the swollen River Indus.

While local charities and international agencies have helped hundreds of thousands of people with food, water, shelter and medical treatment, the scale of the disaster has meant that many millions have received little or no assistance. The U.N. has voiced fears that disease in overcrowded and unsanitary relief camps may yet cause more deaths.Earlier Sunday, survivors fought over food being handed out from a relief vehicle close to the town of Sukkur in hard-hit Sindh province, ripping at each others' clothes and causing such chaos that the distribution had to be abandoned, according to an Associated Press reporter at the scene. The impatience of the people has deprived us of the little food that had come, said Shaukat Ali, a flood victim waiting for food. Waters five feet (1.5 meters) deep washed through Derra Allah Yar, a city of 300,000 people on the border of Sindh and Baluchistan provinces, said government official Salim Khoso. About 200,000 had fled the city and Khoso said he did not know how they would be fed. We are here like beggars, said Mukhtar Ali, a 45-year-old accountant living on the side of a highway along with thousands of other people. The last food we received was a small packet of rice yesterday and 15 of us shared that.Associated Press writer Ashraf Khan contributed to this report from Sukkur.

New landslides in China leave 38 missing: report
Sat Aug 14, 7:57 am ET

BEIJING (AFP) – Heavy rains triggered landslides Saturday that left at least 38 missing in southwest China, state media said, adding misery to a nation already battling with huge floods and a massive mudslide that has claimed over 1,200 lives.

Landslides destroyed hospital buildings in Wenchuan county, the epicentre of an earthquake in May 2008 that left nearly 87,000 dead or missing, the official Xinhua news agency said.No deaths were immediately reported in the landslides, but 38 people were missing and 10,000 people had been evacuated, Xinhua said. The government turned schools and municipal office buildings into temporary shelters.

Debris blocked a river creating a flood lake in Yingxing Township and more than 4,000people and about 1,300 vehicles were stranded on blocked roads.A 200-metre (220-yard) stretch of the only highway linking Wenchuan with Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, was covered with water four metres deep, the report said.Authorities warned torrential rains would continue into Sunday and said further flash floods, landslides and floating debris continued to pose dangers in Sichuan and neighbouring Gansu province, Xinhua said.China announced Sunday would be a day of mourning for the more than 1,200 people who died in last weekend's mudslides in Zhouqu, a remote mountain town in Gansu in the northwest.Flags were to fly at half-mast on Sunday and public entertainment was to be suspended for the day of mourning to express condolences for the mudslide victims, China's State Council, or Cabinet, said Saturday. The Culture Ministry issued an order saying recreational activities, such as movies, karaoke and online games and music, should be suspended on Sunday.

The heavy rains have affected more than 305 million people and caused 1.7 billion dollars in economic losses, Xinhua said, citing the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters agency. The report did not give details on how the vast numbers of people have been affected. In mudslide-stricken Zhouqu, 505 people were still missing after last weekend's avalanche of mud and rocks, which levelled an area five kilometres (three miles) long and 300 metres wide. The official death toll in Zhouqu stood at 1,239 as of Saturday.Health authorities said survivors of the deadly floods and landslides in Zhouqu faced a grim situation after clinics were damaged and vaccines ruined. However, relief workers continued to gradually restore water, power and telecommunication services in Zhouqu, Xinhua reported Saturday.Elsewhere in Gansu, new floods and landslides killed 29 people and left 27 missing in the cities of Longnan and Tianshui close to Zhouqu, Xinhua said.About 10,600 residents in Longnan were evacuated after more than 150 millimetres (six inches) of rain fell overnight on Wednesday. The mudslides in Zhouqu are the latest in a string of weather-related disasters across China. More than 2,100 people have been left dead or missing and 12 million evacuated nationwide, not including the toll from the Zhouqu incident. The civil affairs ministry said Friday it had not calculated a new nationwide flood death toll. China's meteorological agency also warned Saturday heavy rains would return to the country's northeastern regions after several days of respite, issuing an alert for the northeastern provinces of Jilin, Liaoning and Heilongjiang.Since June, rain-triggered floods have left 85 people dead and 67 others missing in Jilin, according to the local flood control authorities.

Cholera strikes amid Pakistani flood disaster By ASHRAF KHAN and NAHAL TOOSI, Associated Press Writers – Sat Aug 14, 2:55 pm ET

SUKKUR, Pakistan – The deadly, waterborne disease cholera has surfaced in flood-ravaged Pakistan, the U.N. confirmed Saturday, adding to the misery of 20 million people the government says have been made homeless by the disaster. A fresh surge of floodwater swelled the Indus River, threatening previously spared cities and towns in the south. The crisis has battered Pakistan's economy and undermined its political stability at a time when the United States needs its steadfast cooperation against Islamist extremism. The U.N. has appealed for an initial $460 million to provide relief to Pakistan but has said the country will need billions to rebuild once the floodwaters recede.Because of the flooding, Pakistan canceled celebrations Saturday marking its creation and independence from Britain in 1947. President Asif Ali Zardari met with flood victims in the northwest, and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was expected to visit affected regions on Sunday. The floods have killed about 1,500 people, and aid workers have warned that diseases could raise that toll. One case of cholera was confirmed in Mingora, the main town in the northwest's Swat Valley, U.N. spokesman Maurizio Giuliano said Saturday. But other cases were suspected, and aid workers are now responding to all those exhibiting acute watery diarrhea as if it is cholera, Giuliano said.Cholera can lead to severe dehydration and death without prompt treatment, and containing cholera outbreaks is considered a high priority following floods.

The Pakistani crisis began in late July, when unusually heavy monsoon rains tore through the country from its mountainous northwest. Hundreds of thousands of homes have been destroyed. Agriculture has been severely hit, with an estimated 1.7 million acres (nearly 700,000 hectares) of farmland wiped out.U.N. officials, citing government figures, previously said about 14 million Pakistanis were directly or indirectly affected. But in a televised address to the nation Saturday, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said 20 million were now homeless. He did not elaborate, and it was unclear how many of those people were briefly forced to leave their homes and how many had lost their houses altogether.Fresh flood waves swelled the River Indus on Saturday, threatening nearby cities, towns and villages in southern Sindh province, said Mohammed Ajmal Shad, a senior meteorologist. The Indus was already more than 15 miles (25 kilometers) wide at some points Friday — 25 times wider than during normal monsoon seasons.Authorities were trying to evacuate or warn people in Jacobabad, Hyderabad, Thatta, Ghotki, Larkana and other areas in Sindh province that so far have been spared floods.Ghulam Sarwar said he, his wife and eight children had already fled the town of Thal because of flooding. Overnight, they had to get out of Jacobabad after the fresh warnings. Now they wait in a small tent relief camp on the edge of the city of Sukkur. Our whole world has been ruined by the flood, and the whole of Sindh is drowning, the 42-year-old said. We do not know how long we will have to suffer. The Pakistani government's reputation — already shaky to begin with — has suffered during the crisis, especially after the president decided to visit Europe as the crisis was unfolding. Zardari has tried to make up for that public relations gaffe by meeting with flood victims in hard-hit areas since returning. We are with you. Pakistan is with you, and the people of Pakistan are with you,he told survivors at a relief camp in the northwest's Nowshera city Saturday. He promised the government would rebuild victims' homes.

Aid experts say the pace of international aid coming in to Pakistan has been relatively slow compared to other major crises. They say the slow onset of the disaster, the global economic downturn and the perception of Pakistani corruption might all be factors.Gilani agreed to a proposal from opposition leader Nawaz Sharif that an independent body be appointed to raise relief funds and oversee their spending in a transparent manner to boost Pakistan's credibility in the eyes of the international community. The United States has donated the most to the relief effort, at least $70 million, and has sent military helicopters to rescue stranded people and drop off food and water. Washington hopes the assistance will help improve its image in the country — however marginally — as it seeks its support in the battle against the Taliban in neighboring Afghanistan. So far, if anyone has practically given us maximum help, it is America,Gilani said Saturday when a Pakistani reporter suggested the U.S. has done little since the crisis started.Associated Press writers Asif Shahzad and Munir Ahmed contributed to this report from Islamabad.

U.S.-South Korea drills anger North, worry China
By Jeremy Laurence – Sat Aug 14, 10:26 pm ET

SEOUL (Reuters) – The U.S. and South Korean militaries will stage their second joint exercise in less than a month from Monday, fuelling tensions with the prickly North and angering regional power China. The annual exercise comes a week after Seoul completed its own drills near a disputed maritime border off the west coast that prompted the North to retaliate by firing a barrage of artillery shells in the same area.Responding with the same rhetoric as it has in the past, the reclusive North said the latest exercise was a dangerous act to light the fuse of a new war. Pyongyang has often turned to saber-rattling to make a point but analysts say it is unlikely to risk a full-blown war which would pit it against the combined might of the U.S. and South Korean militaries. But U.S. officials have said further provocations by the North are possible in coming months, especially as Pyongyang tries to build political momentum for the succession to leader Kim Jong-il, expected to hand power to his youngest son.Unlike the show-of-force drills in July which involved a U.S. aircraft carrier, this month's exercises are lower key.Washington and South Korea say the exercises are defensive and designed to send a message to Pyongyang that its behavior is aggressive and must stop.

Last week's tit-for-tat military actions occurred near the Northern Limit Line, the site of several deadly clashes since the 1950-53 Korean war, and the location of the torpedoing of a South Korean warship earlier this year.Seoul blames the sinking of the Cheonan corvette, which cost 46 lives, on Pyongyang. The North denies responsibility.Taking into consideration the exceptionally tense security situation following the Cheonan attack, the (latest) drills this year will be conducted throughout the whole country so that it is as similar as possible to actual battle, the South's defense ministry said. The exercises have also sparked regional tensions, with the North's only major ally China calling the U.S.-led drills a threat to both its security and regional stability.Following last month's U.S.-South Korea joint naval drill in the Sea of Japan off the Korean peninsula, China conducted its own heavily publicized military exercises.(Editing by Jonathan Thatcher)

Underneath Lebanon, Israel sees hidden battlefield By MATTI FRIEDMAN, Associated Press Writer – Sun Aug 15, 12:01 am ET

MOUNT ADIR, Israel – With tensions mounting along their shared border, Israel's military says Hezbollah is moving fighters and weapons into the villages of south Lebanon, building up a secret network of arms warehouses, bunkers and command posts in preparation for war.The Israeli military has begun releasing detailed information about what it calls Hezbollah's new border deployment, four years after a cross-border raid by its guerrillas triggered a 34-day war.A reminder of the volatility came on August 3, when Lebanese troops fired at Israeli soldiers clearing brush on their side of the border. One Israeli officer was killed, another badly wounded, and a retaliatory helicopter strike killed two Lebanese soldiers and a reporter.

Hezbollah, which is armed by Iran and Syria and is more powerful than the Lebanese military, stayed out of the Aug. 3 fight. But its leader, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, threatened that he would intervene next time. He has also said that if war breaks out again his forces will fire rockets into Tel Aviv.Neither side has signaled that another war is imminent, but the Israelis' unusual openness about what they claim to know of Hezbollah's preparations seems to have two goals: to show the reach of their intelligence, and to stake their claim that if another war breaks out and many civilians die, it will be because Hezbollah placed its armaments and fighters in their midst.Israel's military says Hezbollah has changed strategy since the last war, moving most of its fighters and weapons from wooded rural areas into villages. It says the aim is to avoid detection and use to civilians for cover if war erupts.

The military says all of this exists under the nose of 12,000 international peacekeepers who, by their own count, conduct up to 340 patrols a day in south Lebanon but are hobbled by a hostile population and rules preventing them from searching private property. In an interview with The Associated Press on Mount Adir, a hill overlooking the border, an officer from the military's Northern Command pointed through the summer haze at the village of Aita al-Shaab.One of its southernmost buildings, a white structure housing mentally handicapped children, is a Hezbollah lookout post, the officer said. Several guerrilla command posts are in civilian buildings in the center of Aita al-Shaab, she said, with several dozen fighters able to move among houses through underground tunnels. The military would not allow her name to be used because of the sensitivity of her job.The village also houses a network of warehouses holding arms trucked in from Iran via Syria, she said, some in stand-alone structures and some in smaller stashes in garages, basements and buried under backyards. The officer said the guerrillas now have 5,000 fighters operating in the buffer zone between the border and the Litani River — a strip ranging from 5 kilometers to 30 kilometers (3 miles to 18 miles) wide — which is supposed to be free of militant activity under the 2006 cease-fire. In late 2009, Nasrallah said Hezbollah's rocket arsenal stood at 30,000. Israel says it's now about 40,000.Israel's intelligence probably comes from surveillance flights over Lebanese territory, spy satellites and Lebanese agents. But the military provides no proof of its claims, saying that could compromise its sources, and the peacekeeping force says it sees no evidence of new military infrastructure. Hezbollah officials did not respond to requests for comment on Israel's accusations. It's difficult to independently confirm the allegations on the ground. The south Lebanese, mostly Shiite like Hezbollah, tend to support the movement and rarely criticize it publicly or volunteer information. Hezbollah members or supporters often attach themselves to journalists entering villages, shadowing them and discouraging photography.South Lebanon is festooned with posters of the bearded, turbaned Nasrallah, but the only visible hint of Hezbollah fighters are the bearded men in civilian clothes who travel on motorbikes or in cars and occasionally approach reporters working in the area.

In July, looking to build its case that Hezbollah is digging in among civilians, the military released maps, photographs and a 3-D simulation of the streets and houses of another Lebanese town, Khiam. The simulation shows one arms storeroom, a squat, freestanding building colored red, located 130 meters (150 yards) from a school, colored blue. A map on the military's Web site purports to pinpoint 12 arms storerooms and three command posts in the town. The Israeli implication is clear: If another war erupts, many civilians will die.In 2006, Israel responded to the Hezbollah border raid with a heavy bombardment of the south and then invaded, while Hezbollah fired thousands of rockets into northern Israel. The fighting killed 160 Israelis and around 1,200 Lebanese, according to official counts from each side. Israelis were dismayed to find their military suffering from organizational and supply problems, and were infuriated by international censure over the civilian death toll. That criticism was repeated even more forcefully over Israel's Gaza offensive two winters ago. But the Lebanon border has been largely quiet since 2006. Hezbollah has not fired a rocket in the past four years — though Palestinian militant groups have — and the Israeli officer killed in early August was the military's first fatality on the frontier since 2006. UNIFIL, the international peacekeeping force, has not found any evidence of new military infrastructure in its area of operations, said spokesman Neeraj Singh. Only on a few occasions, UNIFIL found armed elements in the area with personal weapons like AK-47s.While saying UNIFIL had made significant progress in helping the Lebanese army secure the south, he acknowledged that the peacekeepers are barred from searching private property, where the Israelis say much of the evidence of the guerrillas' presence would be found.

Some indications of Hezbollah activity in the south have surfaced unintentionally. When a building at Khirbet Silim exploded on July 15, 2009, peacekeepers identified it as an actively maintained Hezbollah arms warehouse. Another storehouse blew up in October, the Israelis say, and in December, according to Singh, peacekeepers caught a group of individuals with about 250 kilograms (550 pounds) of explosives. UNIFIL's performance has implications beyond south Lebanon. If the Israelis turn out to be right about the Hezbollah buildup, it will undermine their trust in international forces to police other volatile areas, such as Gaza and the West Bank, under a peace treaty. In preparation for a new round against Hezbollah, the Israeli military has simulated parts of south Lebanon at a training base called Elyakim, about an hour's drive south from the border. A second facility in central Israel is nearing completion. One day in late July, near a mock Lebanese village of gray concrete, a company of sweating Israeli infantry recruits staged a maneuver through thick Lebanese-style undergrowth, complete with rockets hidden in the bushes and bombs camouflaged as rocks. A square metal cover on the earth opened onto a concrete tunnel where Lt. Natan Mann stood in the dark, drilling his men for the real thing.

The army has made tactical changes and changes in its mindset, said Mann, 23, one hand on the plastic grip of his rifle. We're either at war, or we're training for war.Associated Press Writers Elizabeth A. Kennedy and Zeina Karam reported from Beirut, Lebanon.

24 He shall enter peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers' fathers; he shall scatter among them the prey, and spoil, and riches: yea, and he shall forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time.

16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

Israel: No conditions for talks with Palestinians By KARIN LAUB, Associated Press Writer – Sun Aug 15, 5:53 pm ET

RAMALLAH, West Bank – Israel will not accept conditions for resuming direct negotiations with the Palestinians, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and top Cabinet ministers affirmed in a meeting late Sunday, reflecting a hard line just as invitations to the talks appeared to be near. The Palestinians want the framework and agenda of negotiations worked out ahead of time.Under an emerging compromise, the so-called Quartet of Mideast mediators — the United States, the United Nations, the European Union and Russia — was expected to issue an invitation for direct talks that would list underlying principles and a time frame. However, Netanyahu and his inner circle fear that a Quartet statement would be a fig leaf for Palestinian preconditions, said an official in Netanyahu's office who spoke on condition of anonymity because no government statement was made.In a meeting late Sunday, the prime minister and his top ministers decided to hold out for a separate invitation from the United States without preconditions, the official said.It was not clear whether the U.S. plans to issue such a separate invitation. The Obama administration has been pushing for a speedy resumption of negotiations that broke down in December 2008.Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is wary of entering open-ended talks with Netanyahu, who has retreated from some of the concessions offered by his predecessors. Abbas wants Israel to accept the principle of Palestinian statehood in the lands Israel occupied in the 1967 Mideast war with minor modifications, and wants all Jewish settlement building to stop during negotiations. The Israeli official said the leadership reinforced its long-held position that those are unacceptable preconditions.Late Sunday, U.S. envoy David Hale met with Abbas at his headquarters in Ramallah. Abbas aides said before the meeting that Hale was discussing the wording of a possible Quartet statement with Abbas.

Afterward, Abbas aide Nabil Abu Rdeneh said consultations with the U.S. and other Quartet members would continue, but that some progress has been made. He would not elaborate. In a sign of a calming atmosphere, Israeli army cranes on Sunday began removing a concrete barrier that shielded a Jewish neighborhood bordering the West Bank from gunfire. The Israeli military erected the 600-yard (meter) concrete barrier nine years ago on the outskirts of the Gilo neighborhood in southern Jerusalem because of repeated Palestinian shootings from the West Bank town of Beit Jalla. The barrier is being taken down over the next two weeks because of a reduced security threat and improved coordination between Israeli and West Bank security forces, the Israeli military said.Gilo, a neighborhood of about 40,000, was a convenient target of gunmen during the second Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation, which erupted in 2000. Palestinian militants frequently fired at Israelis, including West Bank motorists and soldiers. Gilo was hit because it lies across a shallow valley from a West Bank town.Gilo was built on land Israel captured in the 1967 war and annexed to Jerusalem, a step not recognized by the international community. The uprising gradually ended after Abbas became Palestinian president in January 2005. Israel remains in overall control of the West Bank, while Abbas has restored order in once chaotic areas there. In another sign that Abbas is trying to counter Hamas influence, his religious affairs minister told a news conference Sunday that the government has taken control of all the territory's mosques, including content of the main weekly sermon, to ensure that houses of worship are not used for political recruiting.Mosques were once a Hamas stronghold. Since 2007, Abbas has been cracking down on the militants to make sure they don't attempt a West Bank takeover. Religious Affairs Minister Ibrahim Habash said only government-sanctioned preachers are allowed to deliver sermons or teach religion in mosques. Habash also defended the government's recent decision to stop broadcasting readings from the Quran, the Muslim holy book, over mosque loudspeakers before the call to prayer. The Quran should be listened to when recited, and we know that people are busy with their daily lives and won't pay attention when it comes from loudspeakers in the mosques, Habash said.Associated Press writers Mohammed Daraghmeh in Ramallah and Mark Lavie in Jerusalem contributed to this report.

NUCLEAR WEAPONS WILL BE USED.

PSALMS 97:3
3 A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.

REVELATION 14:18-20
18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.
19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.
20 And the winepress was trodden without the city,(JERUSALEM) and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.(200 MILES) (THE SIZE OF ISRAEL)

ISAIAH 66:15-18
15 For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.
16 For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many.
17 They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.
18 For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory.

ISAIAH 26:21
21 For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.(WW3,1/2 earths population die).

ISAIAH 13:6-13 KJV
6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt:(FROM FRIGHT)
8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

ISAIAH 24:17-23 KJV
17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.
22 And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

JOEL 2:3,30
3 A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

ZECHARIAH 14:12-13
12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.
13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.

EZEKIEL 20:47
47 And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.

ZEPHANIAH 1:18

MALACHI 4:1
1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

REVELATION 8:7
7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

REVELATION 9:18
18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.

HALF OF EARTHS POPULATION DIE DURING THE 7 YR TRIBULATION.(THESE VERSES ARE JUDGEMENT SCRIPTURES NOT RAPTURE SCRIPTURES)

LUKE 17:34-37
34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.(Christians have new bodies, this is the people against Jerusalem during the 7 yr treaty)(Christians bodies are not being eaten by the birds).

MATTHEW 24:37-51
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

AP: Arab nations lobby U.S. on anti-Israel vote By GEORGE JAHN, Associated Press Writer - Sun Aug 15, 11:19 am ET

VIENNA – Ignoring a U.S. warning, Arab nations are urging Washington and other powers to end support of Israel's nuclear secrecy and to push the Jewish state to allow international inspections of its program, diplomats told The Associated Press Sunday.Islamic nations have long called for Israel — which is widely believed to have nuclear arms — to open its program. But the fact that the Arab League has directly approached Washington and other Israeli allies for support at the September meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency is significant, considering that President Barack Obama last month warned against using that forum to single out Israel.Obama then suggested that such a move would likely kill hopes of breakthrough talks on a Mideast nuclear-free zone, as proposed by the U.N.'s 189-nation Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty conference three months ago.Over Israeli objections, the planned 2012 talks were backed by the U.S. and other nuclear powers for the first time since Arab nations pushed for such a gathering 15 years ago.The Arab appeal to pressure Israel to open its nuclear program to inspectors also threatens to deflect attention from Iran, which Washington and its allies now consider a grave nuclear proliferation threat, even though Tehran insists it is not developing nuclear weapons. The Arab appeal is contained in an Aug. 8 letter signed by Arab League chief Amr Moussa that was shared with The Associated Press. It asks for backing of a resolution that Arab nations will submit to the September assembly of the International Atomic Energy Agency. An attached draft of the resolution expresses concern about Israel's nuclear program and urges it to join the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and to open its atomic activities to outside inspection.

A cover note also seen by the AP asks the Belgian Embassy in Cairo to transmit the letter and the draft to Belgian Foreign Minister Steven Vanackere, who now holds the rotating European Union presidency.Diplomats accredited to the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency and familiar with the issue told the AP that the letter also was sent to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the foreign ministers of Russia, China, Britain and France — the four other permanent U.N. Security Council members. All the diplomats who agreed to discuss the issue with the AP asked for anonymity because of the confidentiality of their information.Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed in a statement last month to work together to oppose efforts to single out Israel at the 150-nation International Atomic Energy Agency conference. On the proposed Mideast nuclear-free zone talks, their statement warned that any efforts to single out Israel will make the prospects of convening such a conference unlikely. But the Arab letter says the notion of singling out Israel is not the case.Singling out a state assumes that there are a number of states in the same position and only one state was singled out, the letter says. Referring to the Nonproliferation Treaty, it says: The fact is that all the states in the region have acceded to the NPT except Israel.

Israel is commonly assumed to have nuclear weapons but refuses to discuss the issue.

The latest pressure puts the Jewish state in an uncomfortable position. It wants the international community to take stern action to prevent Iran from obtaining atomic weapons but at the same time brushes off calls to come clean about its own nuclear capabilities.Passions have grown since September when the International Atomic Energy Agency assembly overrode Western objections to pass a resolution directly criticizing Israel and its atomic program for the first time in 18 years. The result was a setback not only for Israel but also for the United States and other supporters of the Jewish state. Because the resolution passed by only a four-vote margin, lobbying by both sides has intensified ahead of next month's meeting.Three diplomats from International Atomic Energy Agency member nations said the EU and the U.S. were meeting or planning to meet with possible undecided nations to seek their support of Israel, even as the Arab bloc continues pushing for support for its resolution, entitled Israeli nuclear capabilities. The U.S. and its allies consider Iran the region's greatest proliferation threat, fearing that Tehran is trying to achieve the capacity to make nuclear weapons despite its assertion that it is only building a civilian program to generate power. They also say Syria — which, like Iran is under International Atomic Energy Agency investigation — ran a clandestine nuclear program, at least until Israeli warplanes destroyed what they describe as a nearly finished plutonium-producing reactor two years ago. Syria denies that. But Islamic nations insist that Israel is the true danger in the Middle East, saying they fear its nuclear weapons capacity. Israel has never said it has such arms, but is widely believed to possess them.Even ahead of the General Conference, key International Atomic Energy Agency nations are expected to disagree about Israel's nuclear activities. The item is to be discussed at the agency's decision-making board of 35 nations, according to a copy of the restricted provisional agenda of that gathering shared with The AP.(This version CORRECTS Adds date of the Arab letter, background about Israel, Iran and Syria, corrects Moussa's first name to Amr, not Amre, and links the AP photo.)

Israel to purchase F-35I fighter jets from US By ARON HELLER, Associated Press Writer – Sun Aug 15, 9:01 am ET

JERUSALEM – Israel's defense minister has given the go-ahead to a $4 billion purchase of advanced American F-35I fighter jets.Ehud Barak's office says Barak approved the purchase of the stealth fighters along with spare parts and services. Military officials said Israel would purchase around 20 of the Lockheed Martin jets. The F-35I is also known as the Joint Strike Fighter. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because details of the deal were not made public.Israel's government is expected to approve the deal soon. The purchase will be funded by U.S. military aid to Israel. The F-35I can avoid enemy radar systems. Analysts suggest that could help Israel strike Iran's nuclear facilities. In a statement Sunday, Barak said the plane will allow Israel to maintain its aerial supremacy.

Iran offers $3-bln bonds to fund gasfields
Sun Aug 15, 6:40 am ET

TEHRAN (AFP) – Sanctions-hit Iran will within days offer the first tranche of a three billion dollar domestic bond issue to fund the development of its South Pars gasfields, a top official said on Sunday.Ali Vakili, head of Pars Oil and Gas Company, the Iranian firm in charge of developing South Pars, said the funds will be raised in six stages during the current year to March 2011, according to oil ministry's news agency Shana.Vakili said state-run Saderat Bank, which is under UN and US sanctions, will be responsible for raising one billion dollars in the first two tranches of the overall issue. The first part of the offer will be made on August 21, followed by the second on September 11, Vakili said. The three-year bonds will carry an interest rate of 16 percent.Apart from the domestic offering, Iran plans to make an international bond offering of two billion euros over the course of the year to March 2011.The euro offering is part of an overall three billion euro bond offers planned this year, Vakili said, of which bonds worth one billion euros have already been issued since January.

Vakili did not specify when the next euro bond offering would be made.

He said that Iran had in the past 13 years invested 30 billion dollars in South Pars, the gasfields it shares with the small state of Qatar but needs anther 40 billion dollars to develop it fully.Iran has planned a massive 200-billion-dollar investment in the energy sector over a five-year period to 2015.But Oil Minister Masoud Mirkazemi has previously acknowledged that Tehran was facing shortage of funds for implementing various projects in the vital energy sector.Iran, the second largest oil exporter of OPEC, also has the world's second largest natural gas reserves after Russia. But the development of South Pars has been hampered by a lack of investment and technology as Western firms have either pulled out or delayed their commitments after new sanctions were imposed on Tehran over its nuclear programme.Since June the United Nations, the United States and the European Union have imposed new punitive measures against Tehran in a bid to stop its sensitive uranium enrichment programme which they fear masks a weapons drive.Tehran denies the charge, saying the programme has purely peaceful goals.

Poisonous smog returns to Moscow
Sun Aug 15, 11:53 am ET

MOSCOW – The poisonous smog that contributed to a higher death rate in Moscow last week returned to Russia's capital Sunday, officials said. The concentration of carbon monoxide in Moscow air early Sunday was more than five times what is considered normal, said Alexey Popikov of weather monitors Mosecomonitoring. In addition, The level of hydrocarbon emissions — the substances that give the air this unpleasant smell — was 5.5 times higher than the usual Moscow level this morning, he told The Associated Press. He added, however, that by Monday winds will disperse most the smog.Acrid smoke from forest and peat bog fires blanketed Moscow until early this week, nearly doubling the number of recorded deaths and grounding planes in airports.

Emergency officials said the number of wildfires outside Moscow stood at 16 early Sunday.Muscovites expressed disappointment with official efforts to stop the fires.I thought this nightmare was over, but here we go, it's back, said 28-year old graphic designer Mikhail Talalikhin. Our mayor once pledged to stop snowfall, why doesn't he start by making rain? Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov said in October that he would use planes to intercept advancing storm fronts and hit them with dry ice and silver iodine particles.Officials warned that fires still rage in a national park near one of Russia's largest nuclear research facilities in Sarov, 400 kilometers (250 miles) east of Moscow. The fire threatens Sarov as long as the Mordovsky (national park) is burning, the head of the national nuclear agency, Sergei Kiriyenko, told RIA Novosti news agency. He added, though, that some 3,000 firefighters working in Sarov made sure that the danger is no longer critical, RIA Novosti reported. This summer is the hottest since records began in Russia 130 years ago. Daily highs have reached up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 Celsius), compared with the usual summer average of 75 F (24 C).Wildfires have raged across central and western Russia. More than 50 people have died in the wildfires and more than 2,000 homes have been destroyed.Fires together with drought have cost Russia a third of its wheat crop, prompting authorities to ban wheat exports.Scientists say the heatwave reflects the global climate's increased volatility.

Tea party activists rally on Arizona-Mexico border By JONATHAN J. COOPER, Associated Press Writer – Sun Aug 15, 6:08 pm ET

HEREFORD, Ariz. – Tea party groups converged on a remote section of the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday to show support for Arizona's controversial immigration law.More than 400 people gathered about 70 miles west of Nogales on a private ranch where the steel posts of the Arizona-Mexico border wall are set closely together to prevent people from crossing the border.Demonstrators attached hundreds of U.S. flags with messages about curbing illegal immigration to the 15-foot posts, and chanted U-S-A when spectators gathered on the Mexico side of the border. One of the messages posted on the border wall read, Mister President ... Secure This Border For America.A federal judge has put on hold the most contentious provisions of the law, including a section that would require officers to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws if they have reasonable suspicion that the person was in the country illegally.Among those speaking at the rally Sunday was Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, known for his tough enforcement of immigration laws in Arizona's most populous county. He said immigration enforcement goes far beyond the nation's border and the Mexican Government should welcome U.S. border patrol or military forces to go after drug cartels south of the border.Don't just say border enforcement, that's a cop out, he said. Let's say lock them up in the interior.U.S. Senate candidate J.D. Hayworth, who is challenging John McCain in the Republican primary, also was expected to speak.Betsy Bayley, 55, a stay-at-home grandmother in Hereford, said she has felt less safe in her home during the past two or three years because increased drug smuggling. My government should protect me so I can feel safe on my own property, said Bayley, red white and blue beads strung around her neck as she huddled for shade against the steel fence. That's my right as an American. I should feel safe on my own property.Steven Nanatovich, 42, a retired Army Ranger from Sierra Vista, said illegal immigration probably doesn't affect him as much as others because migrants pass through his area to live in communities farther north.

Nanatovich said he supports Arizona's tough new law cracking down on illegal immigrants. He said he can barely leave Sierra Vista without being asked his citizenship at a border patrol checkpoint, so he doesn't find the law burdensome.

Religious minorities in Indonesia push back By IRWAN FIRDAUS, Associated Press Writer - AUG 16,10

BEKASI, Indonesia – Tired of government inaction, Christians and other religious minorities in Indonesia are pushing back against rising violence by Islamic hard-liners.For months, Christians in the industrial city of Bekasi have been warned against worshipping on a field that houses their shuttered church. They've arrived to find human feces dumped on the land and sermons have been interrupted by demonstrators chanting Infidels! and Leave now!

But last week, tensions finally exploded.

Twenty worshippers were met by 300 Islamic hard-liners, many of whom hurled shoes and water bottles before pushing past a row of riot police. The mob chased down and punched several members of the group. The constitution guarantees our right to practice our religion! Yudi Pasaribu of the Batak Christian Protestant Church said, vowing to return every Sunday until their request for a place of worship, made more than two years ago, is approved. And we want to do that on our own property, in our own church.Indonesia, a secular country of 237 million people, has more Muslims than any other in the world. Though it has a long history of religious tolerance, a small extremist fringe has become more vocal in recent years.Hard-liners have also become more violent, according to the Setara Institute for Peace and Democracy, a human rights group, which said there have already been 28 attacks on religious freedom in 2010, including everything from preventing groups from performing prayers to burning houses of worship. The institute said there were 18 such incidents in all of 2009 and 17 in 2008.Though most Indonesians are moderate and oppose violence, critics say President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's government has been slow to intervene because it relies heavily on the support of Islamic parties in parliament.

Acting on the orders of local officials, police helped hard-liners forcibly close several mosques owned by Ahmadiyah, an Islamic sect they call deviant, last month in Manis Lor, a village in West Java province. But members of the sect, who differ from other Muslims about whether Muhammad was the final monotheist prophet, have so far refused to buck under. We're tired of being harassed and attacked, said Yati Hidayat, a 48-year-old Ahmadiyah member. We have the right to pray just like any other religious community. If anyone tries to stop us, we're ready to fight.Recent attacks have largely been led by the Islamic Defenders Front, or the FPI, which is pushing for the implementation of Islamic-based laws in regions across the nation. They are known for smashing bars, attacking transvestites and going after those considered blasphemous with bamboo clubs and stones. Perpetrators are rarely punished or even questioned by police.Yudhoyono has in recent days urged his countrymen to be tolerant of others, especially during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. But he has made no direct reference to attacks making headlines in Bekasi, just 25 miles (40 kilometers) from the capital, or Manis Lor, 180 miles (300 kilometers) farther east.

Hundreds of people held an interfaith rally in Jakarta over the weekend demanding the government take a tougher line. Those attackers have to be arrested, otherwise they will feel their actions are right, said Saur Siagain, a rally organizer, standing in front of a banner that said: The president has to be responsible in guaranteeing freedom of religion.Minority groups, who represent less than 15 percent of the population, have long tried to keep a low profile. Though thousands of churches dot the countryside, groups complain that getting permits to build new ones can be nearly impossible. Construction is often put on hold for years as local authorities weigh the risks of angering hard-liners. In the meantime, some congregations have held services in apartments, office buildings and even shopping malls. But as attacks become more frequent and more brutal, religious minorities — together with moderate Muslims — appear to be losing patience. The Batak Christian Protestant Church and Ahmadiyah were around long before FPI, said Hilmar Farid from Indonesia's Social History Institute. They are getting tired of being intimidated. In a rare show of force, hundreds of police showed up to protect the Batak Christians on Aug. 8. But they made little effort to stop FPI members as they got increasingly vitriolic. The Batak Christians deserve to be stabbed to death, yelled Murhali Barda, who heads the FPI chapter in Bekasi. If they refuse to go home we are ready to fight. An argument broke out between Barda and three female members of the congregation. The hard-liners shoved and started punching them. All the while, men chanted from a truck and clerics made speeches saying Leave. ... We will not let you perform prayers here! The crowd, made up largely of children, cheered in response: God is great!
