The Passover sacrifice (Hebrew: Korban Pesakh קרבן פסח), also known as the "sacrifice of Passover", the Paschal Lamb, or the Passover Lamb, is the sacrifice that the Torah mandates to be brought on the eve of Passover, and eaten on the first night of the holiday with bitter herbs and matzo. According to the Torah, it was first offered on the night of the Israelites' Exodus from Egypt. Although practiced by Jews in ancient times, the ritual is today only^{[citation needed]} practiced by Samaritans at Mount Gerizim.

The blood of this sacrifice sprinkled on the door-posts of the Israelites was to be a sign to God, when passing through the land to slay the first-born of the Egyptians that night, that he should pass by the houses of the Israelites (Exodus 12:1-28) This is called in the Mishnah the "Passover of Egypt" (Pesaḥ Miẓrayim in M.Pesach ix. 5). It was ordained, furthermore (Exodus 12:24-27), that this observance should be repeated annually for all time once the Israelites entered into their promised land. Exodus 12:25 "It will come to pass when you come to the land which the Lord will give you, just as He promised, that you shall keep this service (NKJV). This so-called "Pesaḥ Dorot," the Passover of succeeding generations (Mishnah Pesach l.c.), differs in many respects from the Passover of Egypt (Pesaḥ Miẓrayim). In the pre-exilic period, however, Passover was rarely sacrificed in accordance with the legal prescriptions (comp. II Chron. xxxv. 18).

An Open Letter to President Obama

Obama is coming to Israel. Why?  Is it to pressure Israel into their '2 State Solution' which in essence means, 'The Final Solution'?  Why would Obama want to reward a terror entity like the Palestinian Authority, filled with Fatah and Hamas supporters, and give them land carved from the heart of Israel, to be an independent terror state?  Is this really good for the world?  Is this really what the world needs?  Would this really solve all the problems in the Middle East, let alone the world?  The 'land for peace' formula has failed over and over again.  Why then do they keep pressing Israel to give up more land?  Leave your comments below.  

Below is a message, from a prestigious group of rabbis, which they want the U.S. President to know.

Dear President Barack Hussein Obama,

We are pleased to have you visit Israel again, in the beginning of your second term as President on the United States of America. We hope you find the visit inspiring and that the results of the meetings you will hold benefit the United States of America and the Jewish State of Israel. We also hope that your visit benefits the Arab population of Israel, including the Arab population of Judea, Samaria and Gaza, all part of the Jewish homeland as recognized by international law, according to the San Remo Conference decisions as formulated in the Mandate to Palestine, and as reconfirmed by article 80 of the Charter of the United Nations Organisation:

In the preamble to the Mandate:

Whereas the Principal Allied Powers have also agreed that the Mandatory should be responsible for putting into effect the declaration originally made on November 2nd, 1917, by the Government of His Britannic Majesty, and adopted by the said Powers, in favor of the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, it being clearly understood that nothing should be done which might prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing nonJewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country; and

Whereas recognition has thereby been given to the historical connection of the Jewish people with Palestine and to the grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country; 

In Article 2:

The Mandatory shall be responsible for placing the country under such political, administrative and economic conditions as will secure the establishment of the Jewish national home, as laid down in the preamble, and the development of self-governing institutions, and also for safeguarding the civil and religious rights of all the inhabitants of Palestine, irrespective of race and religion.

The eternal basis for this decision of the League of Nations is clearly stated often in the Bible, for instance in 

Deuteronomy 34,4:

And the LORD said unto him: 'This is the land which I swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying: I will give it unto thy seed; I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.'

and also in the Qur’an:

“We made a people …  inheritors of the Land in both Eastern and Western side [of the Jordan river] whereon we sent down Our blessings. The fair promise of thy Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel, because they had patience and constancy...” [Surah al-Ahraf (of the Barrier), verse 137], and

“Remember Moses said To his people: ‘O my People, call in remembrance the favor of God unto you,… and gave You what He had not given To any other among the peoples. O my people! Enter the Holy Land which God hath written for you, and turn not back ignominiously [to this heritage of yours], for then will ye be overthrown, to your own ruin.” [Surah al Maidah (the Table), verse 21]

Therefore, from an Islamic point of view, the Children of Israel are the legitimate owner of the Land which God ordained to them.

So, Dear Mr. President, there is no Muslim claim to any of the Promised Land!

Reassessment

Mr. President, it is rumored that after your visit, you would like to enter into deliberations to design a new plan for peace. A very worthy idea. Clearly what is needed is a complete open-minded reassessment of all that has been done, and all that has not been successful in the last decades, starting before the Madrid conference. One cannot endlessly repeat mistakes of the past. Israel has made the most liberal offers, all of which were rejected out-of-hand by the Arabs. Israel has relinquished land time and time again to Arab governments - in Sinai in 1948, 1956 and in Gaza, and in Judea and Samaria, only to have these lands used as basis for attacking Israel. The “Land-for-Peace” tactic has been thoroughly proven to fail. The need for reassessment is clear.

The West consistently relates to the Arabs as primitive people who cannot be expected to live by civilized norms, to keep their contracts. On the one hand, this is insulting to the Arabs; on the other, it is a good reason for them to continue to behave as expected. The West must honor the Arabs by expecting them to behave honorably. The Arabs signed treaties with Israel promising to refrain from incitement. These clauses are not kept. They are principal clauses, thus Israel has the right to consider the treaties as having been beroken by the Arabs, but Israel always, always, tries to live peacefully instead of standing strongly for her rights. This tactic has also proven to be a great mistake.  The need for reassessment is clear.

The method of negotiation of the treaties has also proven to be a failure: leaders meet together in private, closed sessions, come up with finished documents which are quickly approved by the governmental bodies, without the peoples involved being part of the process.  In our times, closed-room negoitiations are a great mistake. The need for reassessment is clear. The Great`President Wilson had the ormula which is appropriate for this generation of Public Diplomacy: OPEN AGREEMENTS OPENLY ARRIVED AT. The method of open negotiations is a method in which public opinion will change, that the public will learn and be part of the thinking process and will understand and agree with the results. Yes, is it a long process. The need for reassessment is clear.

In this reassessment, it is absolutely necessary to relate to some elements of the situation which have not been addressed properly by the Israeli governments and by other people with good intentions who have tried to encourage Israel along the peace process.  Some of these elements are more visible today that they were before the Arab Spring.

Incitement

Today it is perfectly clear how successful the Arab incitement against Israel has been; that it was a great mistake to ignore the anti-incitement clauses in the Oslo agreements. Since then millions of young Arabs and other Muslims have been educated – not to say brainwashed – to thinking that Jews are descendants of apes and pigs, and that the greatest service they can do to Allah is to kill Jews. Many European Christians realize that Jews are just the first on the hit-list of radical Muslims. After disposing of the Jews, the next act of service to Allah is disposing of Christians, since these Muslims consider Christianity – at least Trinitarian Christianity – is a form of idolatry, which must be physically eradicated by the Muslims. 

Divestment, Boycott, Sanctions and Apartheid lies

Incitement against Israel has many forms and many audiences. The Divestment, Boycott, Sanctions movement is taking over American and European universities, boardrooms, Churches, all based upon vacuous lies about “Israeli Apartheid”. While the apartheid lie is fatuous, as any visitor to Israel can easily observe in any mall, in the Knesset – in which there are more Arab members than are Jews in all the legislatures in the 21 Arab states, in the Israeli Court system, and wherever one turns where there is no security threat, the apartheid lie is as successful in warping the minds of its audience as were the lies of the Nazi regime. Israel cannot be secure as long as these lies are perpetrated, as long as antisemitism is part of the background in much of the western world, from London to Washington to Buenos Aires. A prerequisite for peace is truth, as we are told:

These are the things that ye shall do: Speak ye every man the truth with his neighbor; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates, and let none of you devise evil in your hearts against his neighbor; and love no false oath; for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD. [Zecharia 8, 16-17]   

Until the Arab leaders adhere to the truth, there can be no peace. In particular, Mahmoud Abbas is a holocaust denier, in other words – a liar; there is no value in a contract signed by him. Furthermore, the PLO charter has declared that any diplomatic arrangement will be the basis for an attack on Israel. The PLO are definitely devising evil in their hearts against their neighbour. So any agreement with the PLO will be used by them against Israel. The charade of amendment of the PLO charter was indeed pathetic:  so many dignified people, including the President of the US and the Prime Minister of Israel, were pleading

Dear Mr. President, it is not easy for a President of the US to admit that previous Presidents were fooled and wanted to be fooled. But a prerequisite for Peace is Truth, and that is the sad truth. We cannot proceed towards Peace unless Truth prevails.  

Truth must be not only in the mouths, but also in the hearts and minds. Until the Arab people want the Jewish State of Israel to exist, they will try again and again to kill us all, as they have been doing over the past 130 years. The mindset of the Arabs must be changed. They must return to true Islam, to submit to the will of Allah, that the Holy Promised Land belongs to the Jewish people. This is a great challenge, to the Arabs first and foremost, it is their responsibility, but perhaps the USA – and perhaps Israel - can help.

Support those seeking peace, vanquish those who wish to conquer

Looking around, we see that there ARE places where Muslims live in peace with the surrounding predominant Christian culture, for instance in Marseille. There, the local Christian leaders empower only the moderate Muslims, who cooperate in keeping amiable relations between the Christians, Jews and Muslims.  Any radical statement is immediately attacked by the heads the community of the speaker.

This must also be done on a national basis in European countries and in America: support of true moderates, attack all radicalism. Wahabbism, Salafism and the like, are not to be contained and engaged, but openly fought against, outlawed and punished.  Even internecine fighting, such as Sunni - Shia fighting, must be stopped forcefully.

The resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict

In all the negotiations between Israeli political leaders and Arab political leaders, weak-minded Israeli politicians have made concession after concession to Arab demands, but the Arab politicians have consistently refused to accept anything less than everything.  

As clear from the Torah and the Qur'an, the only solution to the Arab-Israel conflict is: One single undivided state, the Jewish State of Israel, in the Holy Promised Land, in which peaceful Arabs can live in peace and security, as do Arabs in Israel today, as free citizens, in a better situation - economically and politically - than in any Arab country. Many honest Arabs say so openly. This is the vision of the Torah, this is the vision of the Qur'an, God's vision, and this was also the vision of Man, expressed in the decision of the League of Nations in the terms of the Mandate for Palestine, which is the modern legal basis for Jewish Settlement in ALL of Palestine.   

Some people fear - and others threaten - that the One-State solution will be the end of the Jewish state, it will become the "State of all its citizens" – including Arabs, who will overrun the Jewish population. That threat is imaginary, not real. Already, Jewish the birth rate in the Holy Land is favorable to the Jewish nation, and when the threat from Iran is removed, there will be a great influx of Jews from all the countries of the diaspora, since many Jews are justifiably afraid to live in Israel because of the Iranian threat. Many have purchased home in Israel, but are afraid to live here until the Iranian threat is removed. One peace is established, Jews and their descendants will return to their homeland by the millions, as described by Isaiah [35,10]: And those freed by God shall return, and come with singing unto Zion, and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

The Quran, also,  explicitly refers to the return of the Jews to the Land of Israel before the Last Judgment:

And thereafter We [God] said to the Children of Israel: ‘Dwell securely in the Promised Land. And when the last warning will come to pass, we will gather you together in a mingled crowd.’ [Surah of the Children of Israel, verse 104/]

Mr. President,  there have been rumors that you would like Israel to put together a plan for peace.  Here we will make a two-stage suggestion:

Stage 1. Burning of all textbooks used in all of Arabia and other countries, Muslim countries and other countries, such as European countries, from which children are taught that Jews are descendants of dogs, vermin, are attempting to rule the world, are racists, are committing apartheid – in short, Stage 1 is when the World will be freed from the lies of classic and modern antisemitism and  hate of Israel. During Stage 1, new textbooks will be taught in all schools, textbooks celebrating  the Jewish State - as promised by God – Allah - in the Holy Land.

After 40 to 60 years of such education, with no wars, we will arrive at

Stage 2: the day celebrated by the United Nations at the entrance to the UN Building in Manhattan, but which was corrupted by leaving out essential parts. Here we bring the full description:

And many peoples shall go and say: 'Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of God, to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths.' For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of God from Jerusalem.

And He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. [Isaiah 2,3-4]

Dear Mr. President, if you work thus diligently towards this aim, there is no doubt you will be blessed and remembered eternally as the man who helped bring Peace to this world. Obama and Netanyahu agree: No Israeli strike on Iran without US assent

Obama's Israel visit starts with good cheer

In his first conversation of three hours with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Day One, March 20, of US President Barack Obama’s visit to Israel, the two leaders finally put to rest their long dispute over a unilateral Israeli strike against Iran’s nuclear sites. In their news conference that night, both reiterated the principle that Israel has the right to independently defend itself against a perceived palpable threat from Iran - even if Washington does not share that perception. The practical application of this principle was rather different: Obama and Netanyahu spoke highly and repeatedly of the close military and intelligence cooperation their governments had developed and which they would hate above all to jeopardize.  Obama: “There’s not much daylight between us on where Iran is at. Israel is differently situated than us. I would not expect Israel to defer to anyone in its decisions on this.” Netanyahu: “We do have a common intelligence assessment on this. Although the US and Israel have different vulnerabilities and capabilities… there is no argument… I am absolutely convinced that Obama is committed to preventing Iran obtaining a nuclear bomb.” He added: “Iran has not yet reached the red line I defined in my UN speech, but it is getting closer all the time.” The impression they both conveyed was that Israel’s right to strike Iran would be respected but not pursued without prior consultation with Washington. In return for this concession, the US president pledged to deepen US military assistance – hardware, funding and technology - for maintaining its qualitative military edge so as to be able to defend itself in the future as well as the present: He disclosed he had set up a team to work on extending the US military assistance program to Israel for a further 10-year period beyond the date of its expiry in 2017. Following the reports of a chemical attack in Syria and a Syrian air strike inside Lebanon this week, neither Obama nor Netanyahu showed any inclination toward possible military intervention for containing the expansion of the civil conflict raging there, although the US president did use some strong words.Having ordered a thorough inquiry into the reported chemical attack, he said: “If true, it would be a game changer and there will be consequences,” adding: “When you let that genie out of the bottle - a weapon that can cause mass devastation and death - you have to act on the information. I would be deeply skeptical of any claim that the Syrian opposition used chemical weapons.” By the time the experts determine the nature of the chemical attack and who was responsible, the dust will have settled, say debkafile's military sources.Facing the two leaders from the press seats were also top US and Israeli officials, including Secretary of State John Kerry and Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon. Kerry will be handling the Palestinian side of the Obama visit after the president’s side trip to Ramallah Thursday to meet Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.Referring to peace talks with the Palestinians, the president stressed that “Israel’s security is non-negotiable” and must be assured in any peace settlement that established a sovereign Palestinian state. Netanyahu reiterated his commitment to a two-state solution based on mutual recognition and called on the Palestinians to set aside their preconditions and sit down to discuss ending their conflict once and for all. The Obama visit has evidently not generated any major moves on the Palestinian issue but will result in small Israeli-Palestinian steps for strengthening stable Palestinian Authority rule over the West Bank under Mahmoud Abbas’s leadership. The PA’s institutions and security institutions will be strengthened and US funds directed to pulling the Palestinian economy out of its hole. Abbas is expected to reciprocate by suspending anti-Israeli actions at the UN and international institutions.

Two-thirds of Cypriots happy to quit euro

A poll by Prime Consulting published on Thursday says that 67.3 percent of Cypriots would be happy to quit the euro and to forge better relations with Russia. It adds that 91 percent of them backed the Cypriot parliament's decision, earlier this week, to dump the EU bailout plan.

Russia complains government accounts blocked in Cyprus

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev complained Thursday that accounts of Russian government agencies in Cyprus had been blocked as Cypriot Finance Minister Michalis Sarris was set to resume talks in Moscow to secure aid.In comments released early Thursday, Medvedev warned that Russia would take a "firm" stand on Cyprus because the accounts of governmment structures had been blocked on the island.

"A large number of our open public structures work through Cyprus. They now have money blocked for reasons that are unclear, because the source of that money is obvious. This money is declared everywhere. These include government structures," Medvedev said in an interview published early Thursday on the Russian government website."That's why we have to take quite a firm position on the events around Cyprus and regulating the debt of Cyprus," he said.Sarris was expected to continue talks Thursday after holding meetings with his Russian counterpart Anton Siluanov and First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov on Wednesday that failed to produce tangible results as Russia sought lucractive assets in exchange for more help.The head of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, was also set to begin talks with Medvedev on Thursday, with Cyprus to top the agenda.Sarris has vowed to stay in Moscow until some agreement is reached that could help his country's banks avoid bankruptcy and the island from going into default.The Cypriot finance minister also hopes to ease the terms of a 2.5-billion-euro ($3.2-billion) loan that Moscow afforded Nicosia in 2011 and which matures in 2016.A spokesman for the Russian finance ministry said Thursday morning that he could not comment on what talks were planned.Officials familiar with Wednesday's talks were cited by Vedomosti business daily as saying there were no concrete results and that Cyprus did not make any offers to Russia that were immediately attractive, although Russia was analysing them.The chief executive of Russia's largest lender, Sberbank, German Gref, told Prime news agency late Wednesday that Cyprus had offered it the opportunity to acquire a Cypriot bank but that Sberbank "did not express interest."am/pvh-http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/afp/130321/russia-complains-government-accounts-blocked-cyprus

BRUSSELS - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev humbled European Commission chief Jose Manuel Barroso in public remarks on Thursday (21 March) over the EU's handling of Cyprus.Speaking alongside Barroso at a conference in Moscow, he called the EU's original Cypriot bailout idea "to put it mildly, surprising … absurd ... preposterous.""The situation is unpredictable and inconsistent. It [the bailout model] has been reviewed several times. I browsed the Internet this morning and I saw another Plan B, or a Plan C or whatever," he noted.He upbraided EU institutions for failing to give Moscow due notice of its decision.
"The system of early warning did not work very well ... that means we need to work on it," he said.
He also quoted unnamed Russian "eurosceptics" as saying: "The euro crisis has strengthened ideas that Europe is in decline in the 21st century … that the European project has turned out to be too cumbersome."
Earlier the same say, he told Russian newswire Interfax that he is thinking of reducing Russia's holding of euro-denominated currency reserves.In a sign of broader Russian upset, Leonid Grigoriev, an academic and a former Russian deputy finance minister, told a separate news conference that Russian money is no longer safe anywhere in the EU."The Cyprus situation has created new uncertainty in the banking sector. People have started thinking whether the same can happen elsewhere, in Spain, Portugal, Ireland?" he said.
The EU's Plan A for Cyprus was to lend it €10 billion, but to impose a 7-to-10 percent levy on all Cypriot savers, including Russian expats, who alone stood to lose €2 billion.It has now been scrapped.It is unclear what new model might be found.But the Cypriot finance minister, Michael Sarris, also in Moscow on Thursday, said he is in talks to give Russia shares in Cypriot "banks, natural gas [reserves]" in return for Russian bailout money.For his part, Barroso told Medvedev that the EU could not have warned Russia even if it wanted to."Regarding the conclusions of the last Eurogroup [euro finance ministers, who drew up Plan A], Russia was not informed because the governments of Europe were not informed - let's be completely open and honest about that issue. There was not a pre-decision before the Eurogroup meeting. The Eurogroup meeting concluded, I think, in the very early hours of Saturday and the decision was the result of a compromise," he said.He added: "Don't believe in this idea of the decline of Europe … The European Union is stronger than it is today fashionable to admit."Leaked documents on internal EU talks seen by the Reuters news agency give substance to Russia's criticism, however.The notes record remarks by finance officials from euro-using countries during a panicky conference call about Cyprus held on Wednesday.
According to Reuters, a French official said Cyprus' decision not to take part in the phone-debate is "a big problem … We have never seen this."A German official said Cyprus might quit the euro and there is a need to "ring-fence" other countries from contagion.A European Central Bank official said there is a "very difficult situation" because savers might pull money from the island if banks re-open next week.Meanwhile, Thomas Wieser, an Austrian-origin EU official who chaired the phone-meeting, described the situation as "foggy." He added: "The economy is going to tank in Cyprus no matter what."

EU commission prepares ground for far-reaching economic powers

BRUSSELS - The European Commission has started preparing the ground for legislation that would prevent member states from undertaking major tax, labour or financial reforms without running it by the commission and other governments first.In an ideas paper published Wednesday (20 March), the commission said this ex-ante co-ordination should concern "major national economic reform plans and should take place at an early stage before the measures are adopted."The suggested scope of covered policies would implicate virtually all national government legislation - including competitiveness and employment laws, reforms that cover product and services markets, as well as those affecting tax systems and network industries.Financial stability and fiscal sustainability are also suggested benchmarks for whether legislation should first be discussed in Brussels before being implemented at home.The proposals - to eventually take shape as a draft legislation later this year - are part of a general attempt to induce the interdependent 17-country eurozone to behave more as one political and economic entity.The current eurozone crisis has driven home how connected euro countries are.Small, about-to-be-bailout-out Cyprus, with a vastly inflated banking sector, is considered a "systemic risk" to the rest of the eurozone.Fears that markets would drive Italy in the same direction saw EU leaders in 2011 persuade former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi to step down in favour of reform-minded technocrat leader Mario Monti.And member states already snipe at one another for what they consider unfair practices among their neighbours.Ireland and Cyprus are frequently criticised for their low corporate taxes, while the Belgian government recently indicated it would complain to the European Commission about Germany's low wages.The law could also hand far more power to the European Commission, which already has greatly increased oversight on national budgets since the start of the crisis in 2008.One of the questions it is asking to be considered ahead of drawing up the legislation is whether it can have the power to make spontaneous requests for policy information from governments and whether it make changes to the proposed measures.The commission is also working on a proposal for "contractual arrangements," whereby governments would enter into a contract with the EU executive to undertake specific economic reforms.The idea was originally raised by the Netherlands, keen for a mechanism to rein in fiscally miscreant states.Key details will be whether it is only economically ailing euro states that will undertake these contracts and whether it will be voluntary for them to sign.As a sweetener, the commission is suggesting that member states signing up to the contracts will have financial help under "strict conditions" to make the reforms. But it remains unclear where this money would come from.EU leaders are to discuss these ideas in detail at their June summit.But the legislative proposals, when they come, are bound to once more raise questions about how to balance democratic concerns with the need to ensure economic harmony in the eurozone.So far, EU policy makers have struggled to find a way to compensate for national law-makers having much less say over domestic budgets.This issue is set to become much more acute when national taxation and labour policies - key and emotive policy areas - become the business of other member states and Brussels.

Why is the global economy in so much trouble?  How can so many people be so absolutely certain that the world financial system is going to crash?  Well, the truth is that when you take a look at the cold, hard numbers it is not difficult to see why the global financial pyramid scheme is destined to fail.  In the United States today, there is approximately 56 trillion dollars of total debt in our financial system, but there is only about 9 trillion dollars in our bank accounts.  So you could take every single penny out of the banks, multiply it by six, and you still would not have enough money to pay off all of our debts.  Overall, there is about 190 trillion dollars of total debt on the planet.  But global GDP is only about 70 trillion dollars.  And the total notional value of all derivatives around the globe is somewhere between 600 trillion and 1500 trillion dollars.  So we have a gigantic problem on our hands.  The global financial system is a very shaky house of cards that has been constructed on a foundation of debt, leverage and incredibly risky derivatives.  We are living in the greatest financial bubble in world history, and it isn’t going to take much to topple the entire thing.  And when it falls, it is going to be the largest financial disaster in the history of the planet.The global financial system is more interconnected today than ever before, and a crisis at one major bank or in one area of the world can spread at lightning speed.  As I wrote about yesterday, the entire European banking system is leveraged 26 to 1 at this point.  A decline in asset values of just 4 percent would totally wipe out the equity of many of those banks, and once a financial panic begins we could potentially see major financial institutions start to go down like dominoes.We got a small taste of what that is like back in 2008, and it is inevitable that it will happen again.Anyone that would tell you that the current global financial system is sustainable does not know what they are talking about.  Just look at the numbers that I have posted below.The following is the global financial pyramid scheme by the numbers…-$9,283,000,000,000 – The total amount of all bank deposits in the United States.  The FDIC has just 25 billion dollars in the deposit insurance fund that is supposed to “guarantee” those deposits.  In other words, the ratio of total bank deposits to insurance fund money is more than 371 to 1.-$10,012,800,000,000 – The total amount of mortgage debt in the United States.  As you can see, you could take every penny out of every bank account in America and it still would not cover it.
-$10,409,500,000,000 – The M2 money supply in the United States.  This is probably the most commonly used measure of the total amount of money in the U.S. economy.-$15,094,000,000,000 – U.S. GDP.  It is a measure of all economic activity in the United States for a single year.-$16,749,269,587,407.53 – The size of the U.S. national debt.  It has grown by more than 10 trillion dollars over the past ten years. -$32,000,000,000,000 – The total amount of money that the global elite have stashed in offshore banks (that we know about).-$50,230,844,000,000 – The total amount of government debt in the world.
-$56,280,790,000,000 – The total amount of debt (government, corporate, consumer, etc.) in the U.S. financial system.-$61,000,000,000,000 – The combined total assets of the 50 largest banks in the world.
-$70,000,000,000,000 – The approximate size of total world GDP.-$190,000,000,000,000 – The approximate size of the total amount of debt in the entire world.  It has nearly doubled in size over the past decade.-$212,525,587,000,000 – According to the U.S. government, this is the notional value of the derivatives that are being held by the top 25 banks in the United States.  But those banks only have total assets of about 8.9 trillion dollars combined.  In other words, the exposure of our largest banks to derivatives outweighs their total assets by a ratio of about 24 to 1.-$600,000,000,000,000 to $1,500,000,000,000,000 – The estimates of the total notional value of all global derivatives generally fall within this range.  At the high end of the range, the ratio of derivatives to global GDP is more than 21 to 1.
Are you starting to get the picture? Every single day, the total amount of debt will continue to grow faster than the total amount of money until the day that this bubble bursts.What we witnessed back in 2008 was just a little “hiccup” in the system.  It caused the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, but global financial authorities were able to get things stabilized.Next time it won’t be so easy.The next wave of the economic collapse is quickly approaching.  A full-blown economic depression has already started in southern Europe.  Unemployment is at record highs and economic activity is contracting rapidly.The major offshore banking centers in Cyprus are on the verge of collapsing.  It was just announced that they will now be closed until Tuesday, but nobody really knows for sure when they will be allowed to reopen.  And there is already talk that when they do reopen that there will be strict limits on how much money people can take out.
And now the IMF is warning that the three biggest banks in Slovenia are failing and that a billion euros will be needed to bail them out.The dominoes are starting to tumble, and the United States won’t be immune.  In fact, the greatest financial problems that the United States has ever seen are on the horizon.But you can just have faith that Ben Bernanke, Barack Obama and the U.S. Congress know exactly what they are doing and will be able to save us from the coming financial collapse if you want.The mainstream media will provide you with all of the positive economic news that you could possibly want.  They are giddy about the fact that the Dow keeps hitting all-time highs and they would have us all believe that we are in the midst of a robust economic recovery.  You can listen to them if you want to.But when you are tempted to believe that everything is going to be “okay” somehow, just go back and look at the numbers there were posted above one more time.There is no way that the global financial pyramid scheme is going to be able to hold up for too much longer.  At some point it is going to totally collapse.  When that happens, will you be ready?

Obama is now planting a tree — a magnolia he brought with him from the US — with some assistance from Peres. “It’s an incredible honor to be able to offer this tree in this beautiful garden,” says Obama, also praising Peres as “a champion on behalf of the Israel people” and a champion of peace.

Israel’s Ambassador Michael Oren says Obama “always broadcasts warmth” to Israel.

Pope Francis arriving at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City on Tuesday for his installation Mass, which officials said as many as 200,000 people attended.Argentina was on the verge of approving gay marriage, and the Roman Catholic Church was desperate to stop that from happening. It would lead tens of thousands of its followers in protest on the streets of Buenos Aires and publicly condemn the proposed law, a direct threat to church teaching, as the work of the devil.But behind the scenes, Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who led the public charge against the measure, spoke out in a heated meeting of bishops in 2010 and advocated a highly unorthodox solution: that the church in Argentina support the idea of civil unions for gay couples.The concession inflamed the gathering — and offers a telling insight into the leadership style he may now bring to the papacy.Few would suggest that Cardinal Bergoglio, now Pope Francis, is anything but a stalwart who fully embraces the church’s positions on core social issues. But as he faced one of the most acute tests of his tenure as head of Argentina’s church, he showed another side as well, supporters and critics say: that of a deal maker willing to compromise and court opposing sides in the debate, detractors included.The approach stands in sharp contrast to his predecessor, Benedict XVI, who spent 25 years as the church’s chief doctrinal enforcer before becoming pope, known for an unbending adherence to doctrinal purity. Francis, by comparison, spent decades in the field, responsible for translating such ideals into practice in the real world, sometimes leading to a different approach.“The melody may be the same, but the sound is completely different,” Alberto Melloni, the director of the liberal Catholic John XXIII Foundation for Religious Science in Bologna, Italy, said of the two.Faced with the near certain passage of the gay marriage bill, Cardinal Bergoglio offered the civil union compromise as the “lesser of two evils,” said Sergio Rubin, his authorized biographer. “He wagered on a position of greater dialogue with society.”In the end, though, a majority of the bishops voted to overrule him, his only such loss in his six-year tenure as head of Argentina’s bishops’ conference. But throughout the contentious political debate, he acted as both the public face of the opposition to the law and as a bridge-builder, sometimes reaching out to his critics.“He listened to my views with a great deal of respect,” said Marcelo Márquez, a gay rights leader and theologian who wrote a tough letter to Cardinal Bergoglio and, to his surprise, received a call from him less than an hour after it was delivered. “He told me that homosexuals need to have recognized rights and that he supported civil unions, but not same-sex marriage.”Mr. Márquez said he went on to meet twice with Cardinal Bergoglio, telling him of his plan to marry his partner and discussing theology. The man who would become pope gave him a copy of his biography, “The Jesuit.”Cardinal Bergoglio’s readiness to reach out across the ideological spectrum and acknowledge civil unions for gay people could raise expectations that he would do the same as pope. But some of this strategic flexibility may have stemmed as much from Francis’ position at the time as from his personal ideology.Though Benedict publicly condemned legal recognition of unmarried heterosexual couples, much less gay couples, there was often an expectation of some discretion in putting his positions into practice.While the pope in Rome issued the doctrine, bishops like Cardinal Bergoglio were “on the frontier, in the field,” and had to contend with the complexities of local politics, said Sandro Magister, a Vatican expert for the newspaper L’Espresso in Italy.Mr. Magister noted, for instance, that Benedict made it clear in 2005 that divorced Catholics who had remarried without an annulment should not receive communion. But Benedict did not instruct bishops how to enforce that, he said.There was little ambiguity in Cardinal Bergoglio’s vehement opposition to the gay marriage law, which was approved by the Senate in July 2010. In the months between the bishops’ meeting and the Senate vote, the cardinal, in a letter, called the bill a “destructive pretension against the plan of God.”Clashing with Argentina’s president, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, who supported the law, he endorsed protests involving tens of thousands of people against the bill, incurring the ire of some gay rights leaders here.“The reality, beyond what he may have said in private meetings, was that he said some terrible things in public,” said Esteban Paulón, president of the Argentine Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transsexuals. “He took a role, in public, that was determinedly combative.”But others who observed the bishops’ private annual assembly in 2010 said that the cardinal was earnestly hoping for compromise on the issue.“Bergoglio’s thinking was very clearly demonstrated both with what he said and in the message of his pastoral work,” said Roxana Alfieri, a social worker in the communications department of the bishops’ central office here.“He didn’t want the church to take a position of condemning people but rather of respect for their rights like any vulnerable person,” said Ms. Alfieri, who sat in on the bishops’ 2010 meeting.Cardinal Bergoglio was operating in one of Latin America’s most socially liberal countries. Though Roman Catholicism remains the official religion of the state and 76.8 percent of Argentina’s population is Catholic, only 33 percent cited religion as very important in their lives, according to a 2010 Pew study, and just 19 percent said they regularly attended mass.While the archbishop’s support for civil unions was shared by some of the more liberal bishops in attendance, it was defeated by the majority, reflecting the broad resistance of conservative bishops.One priest in the province of Córdoba who spoke publicly in favor of the gay marriage measure, the Rev. Nicolás Alessio, was suspended from his work by another archbishop, Carlos Ñáñez. In an essay written after the election this month of Pope Francis, Father Alessio continued to speak out on the subject, calling Argentina a “model for the rest of the continent” on gay rights. Nearly three years since the passage of the law, more than 1,000 gay and lesbian couples have married in Argentina, and specialized tourism for gay and lesbian travelers has grown here, with about 50 tourist couples also taking advantage of the right to marry.“This is something Rome cannot forgive, tolerate or allow to advance,” Father Alessio wrote.Rachel Donadio contributed reporting from Rome, and William Neuman and Jonathan Gilbert from Buenos Aires.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina –  The election of Pope Francis has thrilled Jewish leaders in Argentina, who predict that their friend will continue to foster warm relations and open dialogue between Catholicism and other faiths during his pontificate.They've seen it firsthand as recently as December, when then-Buenos Aires Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio lit the first candle on the menorah at Temple NCI-Emanu El during a Hanukkah ceremony."He's got a very deep capacity for dialogue with other religions," Rabbi Alejandro Avruj told The Associated Press on Monday, recalling the moment. "He spoke of light as renovation, of the re-inauguration of the temple of Jerusalem 2,200 years ago, and the need to carry light to the world."
As Tuesday's papal installation ceremony draws dozens of Jewish, Orthodox and other Christian leaders to the Vatican, those who knew Bergoglio in his previous role say he considered healing divisions between religions a major part of the Catholic Church's mission."He's the one who opened the cathedral of Buenos Aires for interfaith ceremonies, like when we prayed for peace. He's not one of those who waits for you to call them to participate in these events -- he promotes them," said Avruj, who met Bergoglio after both leaders launched projects in the same slum in a gritty area of southern Buenos Aires.Bergoglio brought leaders of the Jewish, Muslim, evangelical and Orthodox Christian faiths into the Metropolitan Cathedral to pray for peace in the Middle East last November. "Everything is lost with war, everything is gained through peace," Bergoglio said then. "With peace wins victory and respect."The archbishop also welcomed Jews for a joint service on the 74th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the night in 1938 when nearly 200 synagogues were destroyed, Jewish shops were looted and tens of thousands of Jews were sent to be exterminated in Adolf Hitler's Germany.And he also sponsored interfaith prayers after Pope Benedict XVI offended Muslims in 2006 by quoting a Byzantine emperor as saying some of the Prophet Muhammad's teachings were "evil and inhuman."That time, rather than criticize Benedict directly, Bergoglio let a lower-ranking priest lead a service in which he himself did not participate. But leaders of other religions were impressed nonetheless.This dialogue between religions "isn't just a photo op," Omar Abboud of the Islamic Center of the Argentine Republic said then. "It's a genuine and well-reasoned commitment under construction, because we know that we cannot get by without this dialogue."Guillermo Borger, president of the Argentine-Israelite Mutual Association, said Bergoglio came often to the association's headquarters, which was rebuilt on the site of Argentina's worst terrorist attack, the still-unsolved 1994 bombing that killed 85 people. "We're sure that given the sensitivity that Cardinal Bergoglio, now Pope Francis, had here, I really believe that he'll continue to support us."We've spoken often about this idea of the power of working together, and we expect that he'll continue to do it this way as pope, this way of acknowledging the past so that finally we might achieve justice. ... We've had long talks about this and we're absolutely on the same page."One rabbi who is particularly close to Francis is Abraham Skorka, whose friendly debates over religion, politics and social issues with the archbishop became so enjoyable that they decided to invite a writer with a tape recorder along. Their dialogues were published in 2010 as "On Heaven and Earth." Then, the two men kept it up on a program each Friday on the Archdiocesan TV channel."Is it true that Argentines don't want dialogue?" Bergoglio asks in the book. "I wouldn't say so. Rather, I think we succumb as victims of attitudes that don't permit us to have dialogue: arrogance, not knowing how to listen, hostility in our speech, attacking the messenger and so many others. Link to video: North Korea threatens US airbases in Japan North Korea has said it will attack US military bases on Japan and the Pacific island of Guam if provoked, a day after its leader, Kim Jong-un, oversaw a mock drone strike on South Korea.The North also held an air raid drill on Thursday after accusing the United States of preparing a military strike using bombers that have overflown the Korean peninsula as part of drills between South Korean and US forces.North Korea has stepped up its rhetoric in response to what it calls "hostile" drills between South Korea and the United States. It has also been angered by the imposition of fresh UN sanctions that followed its nuclear test on 12 February.Separately, South Korea said a hacking attack on the servers of local broadcasters and banks on Wednesday originated from an IP address in China, raising suspicions that the intrusion came from North Korea."The United States is advised not to forget that our precision target tools have within their range the Anderson air force base on Guam where the B-52 takes off, as well as the Japanese mainland where nuclear powered submarines are deployed and the navy bases on Okinawa," the North's supreme military command spokesman was quoted as saying by the KCNA news agency.Japan and US Pacific bases are in range of Pyongyang's medium-range missiles.It is not known if North Korea possesses drones, although a report on South Korea's Yonhap news agency last year said it had obtained 1970s-era US target drones from Syria to develop into attack drones."The [drone] planes were assigned the flight route and time with the targets in South Korea in mind, Kim Jong-un said, adding with great satisfaction that they were proved to be able to mount [a] super-precision attack on any enemy targets," KCNA reported.It is extremely rare for KCNA to specify the day on which Kim attended a drill. It also said a rocket defence unit had successfully shot down a target that mimicked an "enemy" Tomahawk cruise missile.North Korea has said it has abrogated an armistice that ended the 1950-53 Korean war and threatened a nuclear attack on the United States.
Although North Korea lacks the technology to carry out such an attack, Washington said it would deploy more anti-missile batteries in Alaska to counter any threat.The hacking attack brought down the servers of the South Korean broadcasters YTN, MBC and KBS as well as two major commercial banks, Shinhan Bank and NongHyup Bank. South Korean communications regulators said the attack originated from an IP address based in China.An unnamed official from South Korea's presidential office was quoted by the Yonhap news agency as saying the discovery of the Chinese IP address indicated Pyongyang was responsible.Investigations of past hacking incidents on South Korean organisations have been traced to Pyongyang's large army of computer engineers trained to infiltrate the South's computer networks.
At least one previous attack was traced to a Chinese IP address.South Korea's defence ministry said it was too early to blame the North but said such a cyber capability was a key part of its arsenal. Experts say thousands of North Korean engineers may have been recruited for the purpose."Throughout the world, states that create cyberwarfare and engage in those types of activities are precisely the same countries that develop nuclear weapons," the defence ministry spokesman Kim Min-seok said."North Korea has strongly stepped up development of asymmetrical strategy with nuclear development and many types of ballistic missiles as well as special forces 200,000 strong."
