TORAH PORTION FROM OCT 11 2009 6PM - OCT 17 6PM 2009

GENESIS 1:1 - 6:8
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

GENESIS 2:1-25
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,
5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.
13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.
14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.
15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

GENESIS 3:1-24
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

GENESIS 4:1-26
1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?
10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;
12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
13 And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
15 And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
16 And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
21 And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
22 And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.
23 And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.

GENESIS 5:1-32
1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:
4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:
5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
6 And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos:
7 And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:
8 And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.
9 And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:
10 And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters:
11 And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.
12 And Cainan lived seventy years, and begat Mahalaleel:
13 And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters:
14 And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died.
15 And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared:
16 And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters:
17 And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died.
18 And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch:
19 And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
20 And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.
21 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:
22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:
24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
25 And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech:
26 And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters:
27 And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.
28 And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:
29 And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.
30 And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters:
31 And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.
32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

GENESIS 6:1-8
1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

PROPHETS PORTION

ISAIAH 42:5 - 43:10
5 Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
6 I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
10 Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
11 Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.
12 Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.
13 The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies.
14 I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once.
15 I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.
16 And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.
17 They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods.
18 Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see.
19 Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD’S servant?
20 Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.
21 The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.
22 But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.
23 Who among you will give ear to this? who will hearken and hear for the time to come?
24 Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.
25 Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.

ISAIAH 43:1-10
1 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
3 For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
4 Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.
5 Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;
6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;
7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
8 Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears.
9 Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth.
10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;

17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

MATTHEW 19:3-9
3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?
8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

MARK 10:1-12
1 And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again.
2 And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.
3 And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?
4 And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.
5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.
11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

JOHN 1:1-18
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

1 CORINTHIANS 6:15-20
15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

1 CORINTHIANS 15:35-58
35 But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?
36 Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:
37 And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:
38 But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.
39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.
42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.
48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

ROMANS 5:12-21
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

EPHESIANS 5:21-32
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

COLOSSIANS 1:14-17
14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

1 TIMOTHY 2:11-15
11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

HEBREWS 1:1-3
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

HEBREWS 3:7-4:11
7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

HEBREWS 11:1-7
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

2 PETER 3:3-14
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us–ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

REVELATION 21:1-5
1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

REVELATION 22:1-5
1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

Landslides, floods kill over 150 in northern Philippines By Manny Mogato – OCT 9,09

MANILA (Reuters) – Rescue workers pulled out more bodies from a small mountain village buried under mud in the northern Philippines on Saturday, as the death toll from landslides and floods triggered by heavy rains rose to 153, disaster officials said.Relief officials estimated total damage at nearly 2 billion pesos ($43 million), including 1.6 billion pesos in lost crops.Emergency teams, including troops, began clearing major roads in at least 16 northern provinces on the main Luzon island as the skies cleared and floods began to recede, allowing relief workers to gain access to muddied villages and submerged towns. But Baguio City, known as the country's summer capital, in the vegetable-growing mountain province of Benguet 250 km (155 miles) north of the capital, remained totally cut off by boulders and soil loosened by rains brought by Typhoon Parma.I have some bads news today because a total of 153 people have died in floods and landslides in the north, Lieutenant-Colonel Ernesto Torres, spokesman for the national disaster agency, told reporters, adding he expects the number of fatalities to rise because dozens were still missing. Our rescue teams are working round-the-clock to search for more victims as an entire village was buried by soil loosened by heavy rains brought by storm Parma,he said.Parma first hit the Philippines last Saturday and hovered around the northern part of Luzon throughout the week. It has since weakened into a tropical depression and moved out to sea.Torres said Benguet was the hardest hit with more than 130 people killed in landslides, including rescuers trying to pull bodies out of collapsed houses.

Besides setting off landslides in the mountains, the rain has swollen rivers and reservoirs, forcing dams used for hydropower and irrigation to release water and causing more flooding in areas downstream.About 80 percent of the coastal province of Pangasinan in northwestern Philippines were inundated, with 50,000 people evacuated from low-lying areas, Eugene Cabrera, head of the regional disaster agency, said in a radio interview. The floods and mudslides came two weeks after another storm, Ketsana, inundated areas in and around the capital Manila, killing at least 337 people and forcing half a million from their homes.(Editing by Rosemarie Francisco)

Video shows cars, trucks tossed by tsunami waves By JAYMES SONG, Associated Press Writer – Fri Oct 9, 7:35 pm ET

HONOLULU – The FBI on Friday released video footage showing waves rushing in and violently tossing cars and trucks in a parking lot as a deadly tsunami struck American Samoa last week. The dramatic video was taken on the morning of Sept. 29 from a stationary security camera at the FBI office in Pago Pago. The video shows about a dozen cars, ranging from an SUV to a Volkswagen Beetle, being thrown around like whitewater rafts. The two-minute clip also shows three people walking in the parking lot shortly before the wave struck. One man runs quickly in the opposite direction less than 30 seconds before the water enters the scene. The FBI said because of its second-floor location at Pago Plaza, the office suffered only minimal damage. No agents were inside at the time. The building is located about 100 yards from the shoreline. The water hit the parking lot at 7:14 a.m. in American Samoa, about 26 minutes after an 8.3-magnitude earthquake shook the South Pacific. The time stamp on the video is in Hawaii Standard Time. Local time in American Samoa is one hour earlier.

At least 183 people were killed in the Sept. 29 tsunami, including 142 in Samoa. An additional 32 people were killed in American Samoa and nine in Tonga. As someone who lives on a Pacific island myself, it really brought home the level of destruction that a tsunami brings along with it,said FBI special agent Thomas Simon Jr. in Honolulu. The video recently arrived at the FBI office in Honolulu, which oversees American Samoa and other U.S. territories in the Pacific. The FBI released it publicly because the bureau felt there was a public interest.

Montserrat volcano spews ash, residents wear masks By JILL LASTER, Associated Press Writer – Fri Oct 9, 5:11 pm ET

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Rock falls from a spewing volcano stirred up more volcanic ash Friday on the tiny Caribbean island of Montserrat, which lost half its population after a devastating eruption last decade.Dozens of small earthquakes accompanied ash plumes that have billowed up 20,000 feet (6,000 meters) this week, prompting officials to distribute masks to residents, said James White Jr., acting director of the Disaster Management Coordination Agency.A thin layer of volcanic residue now coats several northwestern towns, and ashfall — which can cause respiratory problems and tiny scratches on the eyes — is expected to continue, said Paul Cole, director of the Montserrat Volcano Observatory.Cole said the Soufriere Hills volcano, which stirred to life Sunday for the first time in 10 months, may be creating a new lava dome, a mound of cooled lava that forms at the volcano's opening. It would be at least the fifth time that has occurred since the volcano became active in 1995.There aren't any ways to tell how long it will stay active, but it's been going for 14 years on and off, so my guess is that it will continue doing what it's been doing,Cole said.In 1997, a volcanic eruption killed 19 people and buried much of the island, including its former capital, Plymouth, which is now abandoned. Half the British territory's 12,000 inhabitants left.

Small earthquake strikes eastern California Fri Oct 9, 1:30 am ET

LONE PINE, Calif. – An earthquake has struck a remote area of eastern California that has been shaken by a sequence of tremors in the past week. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.4 struck at 9:25 p.m. Thursday, six miles south of Keeler and 17 miles southeast of Lone Pine in the arid Owens Valley below the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada. An Inyo County sheriff's dispatcher says she felt some light shaking from the quake, but received no calls and no reports of injuries or damage. The area about 180 miles north of Los Angeles has been rocked by a series of quakes since last week — the largest a magnitude-5.2 which struck last Friday. On the Net: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/

6.4-magnitude quake hits Pacific, no tsunami alert Thu Oct 8, 9:46 pm ET

PORT VILA (AFP) – A 6.4-magnitude quake hit the Santa Cruz islands in the South Pacific on Friday, seismologists said, a day after a series of huge quakes sparked a region-wide tsunami alert. The quake struck at a depth of just 9.4 kilometres (six miles) about 315 kilometres northwest of the Luganville, part of the Vanuatu archipelago, at 8:16am (2116 GMT) but no tsunami warning was immediately issued. The region has been pummelled by some 20 aftershocks after Thursday's triple tremors measuring 7.6, 7.8 and 7.3 sparked a tsunami warning for much of the South Pacific, sending thousands of residents fleeing from the coast. The Pacific is still recovering from last week's 8.0 magnitude earthquake and huge tsunami which crashed into Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga, wiping out villages and resorts and killing 184.Samoa was holding a national day of mourning including a ceremony at Apia stadium and a mass funeral for 11 of the victims.

US Navy arrives in Indonesian quake zone Fri Oct 9, 9:40 am ET

PADANG, Indonesia – The massive relief effort following Indonesia's deadly earthquake received a boost Friday when U.S. Navy ships and helicopters arrived to distribute aid and help thousands of struggling survivors.Indonesian officials said Friday the death toll from the Sept. 30 quake on Sumatra island had reached 784, with little hope remaining for 242 people listed as missing.Chief Petty Officer Ty Swartz said the USS Denver and USS Campbell arrived late Thursday in West Sumatra province carrying tons of aid and heavy equipment.Four helicopters from the ships arrived Friday at an Indonesian military base in the hard-hit city of Padang, where they would begin flights to distribute aid and evacuate injured people from outlying villages cut off by landslides. At least 180,000 buildings were toppled or damaged in the quake, which also caused landslides that swept away entire villages in the hills.

The ships' personnel joined the 69-member U.S. Air Force Humanitarian Assistance Rapid Response Team, which arrived earlier this week and set up a mobile field hospital, which can treat between 250 to 400 patients a day, Staff Sgt, Veronica Pierce said in a statement.Three of Padang's four hospitals were severely damaged by the earthquake, which limited medical services. The U.S. military deployment is the largest in Indonesia since the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that killed 230,000 in a dozen countries, roughly half in Aceh. The major role the U.S. military played in the multinational relief effort for tsunami victims improved America's standing here at a time of negative perceptions following the 2003 invasion of Iraq.International aid groups from some 30 nations have rushed to Sumatra to take part in the relief and recovery effort.

CDC: 76 children dead of swine flu as cases rise By MIKE STOBBE, AP Medical Writer – OCT 9,09

ATLANTA – Health officials said Friday that 76 U.S. children have died of swine flu, including 19 new reports in the past week — more evidence the new virus is unusually dangerous for the young. The regular flu kills between 46 and 88 children a year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That suggests deaths from the new H1N1 virus could dramatically outpace children's deaths from seasonal flu, if swine flu continues to spread as it has.CDC officials say 10 more states, a total of 37, now have widespread swine flu. A week ago, reports suggested that cases might be leveling off and even falling in some areas of the country, but that did not turn out to be an enduring national trend. We are seeing more illness, more hospitalizations, and more deaths, the CDC's Dr. Anne Schuchat said at a press conference Friday. The new virus, first identified in April, is a global epidemic. The CDC doesn't have an exact count of all swine flu deaths and hospitalizations, but existing reports suggest more than 600 have died and more than 9,000 have been hospitalized. Health officials believe millions of Americans have caught the virus.

The virus is hitting young people harder. Experts believe older people are suffering from it less, perhaps because they have a bit of immunity from exposure over the years to somewhat similar viruses. Most healthy children recover and often suffer only mild symptoms. But some have died from it, often from a second infection that moves in while the body is weakened from the flu.Kids with asthma or chronic heart or respiratory conditions also are at greater risk for serious complications.Experts say it's important for parents to watch their children's symptoms carefully. If a child appears to get better, but fever and a cough return, there may be a second infection. Other trouble signs are rapid or difficult breathing or bluish skin color.

Vaccinations against swine flu began this week and so far, states have ordered 3.7 million doses. Demand is exceeding supply, and people seeking the vaccination should ask their state or local health department where to go, said Schuchat, who heads the CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.Health officials also said more data is trickling in from several clinical trials of the new vaccine, and so far no serious side effects have been reported.Preliminary results from one study indicate that both a seasonal flu shot and a swine flu shot are effective when given during the same doctor's office visit. However, the government is not recommending that people get the nasal spray versions of the seasonal and swine flu vaccines at the same time. The nasal sprays contain weakened, live virus, and the government doesn't have data on how a person's immune system would react to exposure to both at once, said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. On the Net:CDC swine flu update: http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/update.htm

Calif. citrus farmers fear tree-killing disease By JACOB ADELMAN, Associated Press Writer – Thu Oct 8, 4:15 am ET

ORANGE COVE, Calif. – Tom Mulholland is girding for battle against a tiny enemy that could devastate the orange grove he has spent his life cultivating. His adversary: the Asian citrus psyllid, a fruit-fly-sized insect with red eyes and a long, leaf-penetrating beak. The psyllid, which can carry an incurable disease fatal to citrus trees, was spotted in August in Los Angeles, closer than ever before to the ribbon of central California where the state's $1.6 billion citrus-growing industry is concentrated. The feared infestation has prompted Mulholland and other citrus-belt farmers to put screens around their young seedlings, vigorously inspect their mature trees and tax themselves to fund research to stop the psyllid. It's like a war, Mulholland said in his tidy office set amid some 400 acres of radiantly healthy Clementine and Satsuma trees on his farm some 200 miles north of Los Angeles in the San Joaquin Valley at the base of the foothills beneath Sequoia National Park. We're sitting here trying to stop this thing, and it wants to keep pushing in.California growers and agricultural officials are worried the state's citrus industry will be crippled by the disease carried by the psyllid, which devastated Florida's crops. The two states produced about 97 percent of the nation's 12 million tons of citrus during the fiscal year ending in June. The huanglongbing disease, which spoils the flavor of the fruit and ultimately kills the tree, has been found in all of Florida's 32 citrus-producing counties since its discovery there in 2005, causing about $100 million in damages, said Andrew Meadows, a spokesman for Florida Citrus Mutual, the state's grower trade association.Florida officials have warned that their $9 billion citrus industry could be wiped out in a decade if a solution isn't found to the disease, also known as citrus greening because of the sickly green cast it lends to infected fruit. That's why California is so alarmed, said David Hall, an entomologist with the USDA's agricultural research service in Florida who worked on a team that sequenced the genome of the bacteria that causes citrus greening.

Huanglongbing has been found in Louisiana, Mexico, Brazil and China as well.

In California, the insect has so far been found among planted citrus trees in four southern counties, prompting quarantines that prohibit nurseries from shipping seedlings to other areas. Fruit grown in those counties also must be washed before it can be sold outside the quarantine zone.Dogs trained to sniff out the pest found packages of curry leaves with psyllids in FedEx packages this summer in Fresno and Sacramento. Only the Fresno psyllids tested positive for huanglongbing. The psyllid is not the only pest that could threaten California citrus. The state is also home to the glassy-winged sharpshooter, a threat to grapes but also capable of carrying a debilitating disease called citrus variegated chlorosis that has been spotted in Brazil.California agriculture officials have also been locked in a decades-long struggle with the crop-eating Mediterranean fruit fly, which can harm citrus plants and hundreds of other fruits and vegetables. But the potential devastation that could accompany a psyllid infestation is especially troubling for Mulholland and other citrus farmers, who have started building screens around the currently open-air nurseries where vulnerable seedlings are cultivated in rows of inverted plastic cones.Allan Lombardi, who helps oversee 2,100 acres of pink-fleshed Cara Cara oranges, deep-red Fukumoto oranges and other high-value citrus as a manager with Central Valley grower Griffith Farms, said his company is scrambling to enclose its nurseries before the pest reaches the area, but that it's about two years from completion. If the disease shows up sooner than that, we'll have to have a Plan B, and I'm not sure what that will be,said Lombardi as he looked down a mountain slope and into a lush valley planted thickly with rows of oranges.Citrus farmers have also started instructing workers to watch for signs of psyllid infestation, such as wilted-looking leaves or leaves covered in soot-like mold and white waxy deposits.

California's Citrus Research Board, which raises its $5.5 million operating budget by assessing citrus growers a nickel for every 55-pound box of fruit they sell, plans to contribute to the field checks with a team of up to 25 inspectors, operations chief MaryLou Polek said. She said she hopes to poach trained inspectors from the state agriculture department whose hours or pay have been reduced due to budget cuts. The board has also embarked on an effort to lay traps for the insect throughout the state that will be monitored by researchers carrying camera-equipped handheld devices that record the map coordinates where insects are found and take pictures of the damage. That information, along with other data, will be beamed to a database so researchers can better track the insect's movement and deploy insecticides and other resources where they'll be most effective, she said. Mulholland said he doesn't expect a cure to the disease any time soon, so those efforts to keep the disease-carrying insect from moving any farther north represent growers' best hope against the illness. It's like the AIDS of citrus. It's the very worst disease you can have,he said. The question is, how do we keep the disease from spreading? Associated Press writer Greg Risling in Los Angeles contributed to this report.

From The Times October 10, 2009 Opt-out over EU treaty demanded by Czech President David Charter in Brussels and Richard Beeston

President Klaus of the Czech Republic: his signature is the last needed on the treaty
Families driven from their homes during the Second World War, gay rights and a recalcitrant Czech President emerged as the last hurdles for a treaty to restructure the European Union.Furious EU leaders are determined to prevent President Klaus from delaying or amending the Lisbon treaty before appending his signature, the last needed to complete the document. Mr Klaus said yesterday that he wanted the same opt-outs as Britain and Poland from the Charter of Fundamental Rights, a key section of the treaty, to stop the European Court of Justice from gaining extra powers over Czech judges.Mr Klaus said that he feared the treaty would give thousands of German families expelled after the war the right to reclaim property in Sudetenland. EU officials said that he had not raised the issue during talks and that his explanation for refusing to sign was a delaying tactic to cause disruption to an institution that he detests. The 66-year-old leader’s demands have dampened the delight in EU capitals over Ireland’s yes vote for the treaty in its rerun referendum a week ago and over the agreement of President Kaczynski of Poland to ratify the document in Warsaw today. EU leaders are desperate for the treaty to come into force as soon as possible so that they can appoint a president and foreign minister, created by the treaty, as well as the new members of the European Commission, who are due to start on November 1.Leaders still intend to discuss at a summit on October 29 whom they want as president — Tony Blair is a leading contender — and foreign minister. It is possible that a consensus over the top post will emerge but it will be a provisional choice, a president-elect, pending Czech ratification.

Legal experts from the EU said that, depending on the precise nature of the extra wording demanded by Mr Klaus, the document might have to go back to all 27 capitals for another round of ratifications. New guarantees given to Irish voters were backed by leaders meeting at the European Council and it is possible that a similar arrangement can be made this month over Mr Klaus’s demands. This might enable him to sign the treaty but claim victory at the same time.In an interview with The Times, Gordon Bajnai, the Hungarian Prime Minister, said that Mr Klaus’s tactics were completely counterproductive and hindering Europe’s recovery from the economic crisis.I am one of those European prime ministers, actually the majority of them, who are quite impatient about getting the Lisbon treaty on track. We are obviously doing everything to pursue it,he said.Mr Klaus has showed no sign of a compromise. As you know, I have always considered this treaty a step in the wrong direction,he said.It will deepen the problems the EU is facing today, it will increase its democratic deficit, worsen the standing of our country and expose it to new risks — among other things also because it endangers the legal status of the citizens and the stability of property rights in our country. The row could trigger a political crisis in the Czech Republic. One EU diplomat said: “At no point did the Czech Government ask for this opt-out during treaty negotiations. The ball is now in the court of the Czech Prime Minister, Jan Fischer — he’ll have to decide if he wants to risk reopening the treaty negotiations.Mr Fischer said that his Government will consider its position on Monday.

How to avoid Czech-mate

Option 1: It is decided at home The Czech Government rejects Klaus’s call for an opt-out. If the President then refuses to sign, could the Government find a way to circumvent him, as when he refused to sign a gay rights law?

Option 2: The fudge The Government backs Klaus’s call for an opt-out that could be agreed readily by European leaders at the next EU summit on October 29. Klaus could sign and the treaty would come into force, probably on December 1

Option 3 Return to go The Czech Government backs Klaus’s call for an opt-out but EU lawyers rule that it must be ratified, again, by all 27 member states. This might delay the treaty long enough for David Cameron to call a referendum on it if he wins the next election.

Dialogue with EU key to progress in Zimbabwe: Tsvangirai by Denholm Barnetson – Fri Oct 9, 12:19 pm ET

VALLADOLID, Spain (AFP) – Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai said Friday that talks with the European Union on normalising relations would help restore international confidence in his country. The EU in June held its first official talks with Zimbabwe in seven years with a landmark meeting in Brussels, followed last month by the visit of an EU delegation to Harare. The dialogue marks a major diplomatic overture with Zimbabwe after years of strained relations due to a series of violent elections and claims of gross human rights abuses by President Robert Mugabe's government.Tsvangirai joined Mugabe in a unity government in February, and quickly made a tour of western capitals in a bid to improve relations and seek desperately needed aid for Zimbabwe's ruined economy.Zimbabwe is emerging from a political and economic conflict. One of the key things that we need to do is to expedite the EU's rapid dialogue,Tsvangirai told AFP.The issues are very clear. The Europeans have their own legitimate concerns, we have our legitimate concerns and therefore I think that only through dialogue are we able to establish a common ground and remove those obstacles that have led to strained relations. He spoke to AFP in the northern Spanish city of Valladolid, where he was to receive a lifetime achievement award from the Cristobal Gabarron Foundation. The EU maintains a travel ban and asset freeze against Mugabe and about 200 of his close allies, but has also provided 600 million euros in humanitarian aid between 2002 and 2009.Xavier Marchal, head of the European delegation in Harare, said Thursday that the bloc was ready to resume massive and full-fledged assistance to Zimbabwe if relations normalise.Even Mugabe, who just last month railed against bloody whites interfering in his nation's affairs, has struck a more conciliatory tone.On Tuesday he said Zimbabwe was ready for "fresh and cooperative relations with Western nations, which have spearheaded global condemnation of his rule.

Washington, which also maintains sanctions on Mugabe and his inner circle, has responded more cautiously, telling Mugabe to first show his commitment to democratic reform and political opening. The power-sharing government aimed to end political violence that erupted after failed elections last year and to halt Zimbabwe's economic freefall, powered by world-record hyperinflation that impoverished the once dynamic country.Tsvangirai said economic stabilisation was critical to the country's recovery, and also called for a "move away from humanitarian support to development needs. The unity government has been rattled by public feuding between Finance Minister Tendai Biti and Reserve Bank chief Gideon Gono, most recently over control of 400 million dollars in resources from the International Monetary Fund. But Tsvangirai said Gono had no choice but to accept Biti's decisions. The fiscal authority in Zimbabwe is the minister of finance. The governor is answerable and subordinate to the minister of finance, so there is no dispute, the former opposition leader said.Biti will set the priorities. He said the IMF funds would be used for social development in all sectors.Hours after the Barack Obama was sensationally awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, he also called on African leaders to do more to help the US president develop the continent.I think he will be sympathetic to Africa but I think he has other priorities. So it now depends on the African leadership ... to do something. Let's facilitate Obama to help us.

African nuns tell Vatican they want more influence By NICOLE WINFIELD, Associated Press Writer – Fri Oct 9, 11:49 am ET

VATICAN CITY – African nuns told a Vatican meeting Friday they want more of a say in running the Catholic Church on the continent, saying they have special talents and shouldn't be left to clean churches and mend vestments.Women also have an important role to play in forging reconciliation in Africa's many tribal and ethnic conflicts —the main focus of the 3-week-long Vatican meeting on Africa, said Sister Pauline Odia Bukasa of Congo. We, your mothers and religious sisters, ask you — our fathers and bishops in this church-family — to promote the dignity of women, she said, requesting in particular greater emphasis on educating young girls.Sister Felicia Harry of Ghana was more blunt, saying African nuns didn't want to usurp priests' powers but wanted to be part of the church's decision-making process. As well as teach catechism to children, decorate parish churches, clean, mend and sew vestments, we religious women in Africa would like to be part of various parish councils, she said, according to a summary of her remarks to the closed meeting. The role of women in the church has been a recurring topic of discussion among the 300 prelates at the meeting, which is hearing testimony from bishops around the continent about their particular problems and advice from colleagues and Vatican officials on how to deal with them.Ghana Bishop Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi said the Vatican needed to address a particular issue that many African priests face concerning polygamous marriages: A woman who married a man who then took other wives isn't allowed to receive certain sacraments because she is in a marriage that the church cannot bless.

He said when the women have walked away from such marriages without the consent of their husbands, the church has been cited for injustice, insecurity, breaking up families, fomenting disunity and destroying social cohesion,he told the synod in asking for some special exemptions from Rome so such women can participate fully in the sacramental life of the church. In addition to the role of women, the synod has addressed issues that are increasingly of concern to the broader church: how to deal with the rapid spread of Islam and Pentecostal churches, which are increasingly drawing away many Catholics.Bishop Alfred Adewale Martins of Nigeria said it seemed the aggressive proselytizing of many neo-Pentecostal communities aims at bringing down the Catholic Church both in her influence as well as in the number of her faithful. This intention is captured in the way some of them refer to the Catholic Church as the dead church,he said, urging the Vatican to reach out in particular to young professional Africans who are increasingly targeted by the new churches. While such problems are universal, a purely African problem has also been raised: tribal and ethnic conflicts within the African church hierarchy.Bishop Albert Vanbuel of the Central African Republic said recent months have seen increasingly bitter divisions between priests, bishops and laymen fueled by tribal and ethnic divisions.
Our church is called on to show a witness ... of reconciliation, justice and peace, and above all of communion,he said.

Netnayahu-Mitchell talks constructive: Israel PM By Douglas Hamilton – OCT 9,09

JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had constructive talks on Friday with U.S. President Barack Obama's envoy George Mitchell on advancing efforts to achieve peace with the Palestinians, his office said.A statement said the two-hour meeting focused "on steps for advancing the peace process.Netanyahu, whose refusal to freeze West Bank settlement construction has opened a rare rift with Washington, agreed to further talks in the coming days. The U.S. envoy and his aides were expected to meet a team of Netanyahu aides on Saturday.

Mitchell later met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and, in remarks afterwards to reporters, acknowledged the continued challenges. We do not underestimate the difficulties for us or for the parties, but we all have obligations to do everything we can to help achieve the goal of comprehensive peace that will be good for the Palestinians, good for the Israelis, good for all the people in this region,Mitchell said.He said that Israeli and Palestinian envoys had been invited to continue their consultations in Washington. Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat told reporters that he saw those talks taking place maybe in the next two weeks.Mitchell's mission -- the ninth by the 76-year-old trouble-shooter since his appointment in January -- saw mixed messages from Netanyahu's rightist coalition government.Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said ahead of meeting Mitchell on Thursday that he intended to tell him clearly that Washington's goal of comprehensive peace was an illusion. But center-left Defense Minister Ehud Barak separately told Mitchell he believed the time had come to move determinedly forward toward a comprehensive treaty.

CREDIBILITY PROBLEMS

Netanyahu is the ultimate arbiter of policy in the coalition, whose inherent instability has been cited as one reason for not acceding to a demand by Obama and the Palestinians to suspend all Jewish settlement building on occupied land seen as part of a future Palestinian state.Abbas also has credibility problems, as his Islamist Hamas rivals control the Gaza Strip -- half the Palestinian polity -- and rule out any permanent peace accord with the Jewish state.Low-yield peace talks limped on last year under the previous government of Ehud Olmert, until derailed by the Gaza war.Obama has made resumption of substantive negotiations one of his policy priorities and underscored the goal in a speech to the U.N. General Assembly last month, saying it was past time to stop talking about negotiations; it is time to move forward.Obama arranged a meeting between Netanyahu and Abbas in New York, but with scant results. He said further meetings would be held at lower levels and he would receive a status report sometime in October. The New York encounter was seen as a humiliation for Abbas by many Palestinians, and the pro-Western president now appears weakened politically.Lieberman said there was no chance of a Middle East peace deal for many years. There are many conflicts in the world that haven't reached a comprehensive solution and people learned to live with it,he told Israel Radio on Thursday. The Palestinians say Lieberman has made it clear why there will be no relaunch of negotiations any time soon,Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rdainah said.We need to hear a response to this statement from Mitchell. There was no word from the envoy on Lieberman's views.(Reporting by Dan Williams and Mohammed Assadi; writing by Doulgas Hamilton; editing by Richard Williams)

Israelis bring green power to West Bank village By TIA GOLDENBERG, Associated Press Writer – Fri Oct 9, 5:58 am ET

SUSYA, West Bank – Residents of a West Bank village with no electricity have been helped out of the darkness by unlikely benefactors — a group of Israelis who installed solar panels and wind turbines to illuminate the Palestinians' makeshift homes. The villagers of Susya live in tents and caves with power lines darting right above their dwellings, connecting a nearby Jewish settlement to the power grid while bypassing them entirely. It was this lack of basic services that drew the physicists from Comet-ME, a group of pro-peace Israeli scientists and activists, to this dusty, desolate area. Now the entire village of 300 people has access to power that is reliable, free and green. At night, rudimentary streetlights dot the otherwise pitch-black village and each home is lit by an energy-saving bulb. Villagers have no access to phone lines, but the power allows them to charge their cell phones.Life is easier now, said Susya villagers Widad Nawaja, standing below the solar panel that powers her home.We have light. Children can do their homework at night if they couldn't finish it during the day.The residents also hope the new amenities will help them make more money: an electric butter churner means they can produce butter faster than by hand, and two green-powered refrigerators can preserve their produce until it can be sold. The communities here are in deep poverty. The project is targeted to help them make more revenue from their own work, said Noam Dotan, an activist and physicist with Comet-ME.

Comet-ME says it seeks to use renewable energy to empower Palestinian communities like this one, which is among the poorest in the West Bank. The West Bank, home to some 2.5 million Palestinians, is controlled by the Israeli military, with the Western-backed Palestinian Authority governing some areas. Some 300,000 Israeli settlers also live in the territory. The Palestinians want to make the West Bank part of their future state.Israel provides power to Jewish settlements and military facilities in the West Bank, as well as to most Palestinian cities and towns. But Comet-ME says some 500 Palestinian families in communities not officially recognized by the Israeli military authorities in this part of the southern West Bank are forced to live off the grid. The Israeli military said it never received a request for power from the community and if it did, the army would study it in accordance with the relevant laws.Susya villagers used to depend on diesel generators which were costly and polluted the air.The community has faced a series of evictions by the military and has clashed with Jewish settlers in the past. But the villagers and the activists say the work to set up the new power system — done by both Israelis and Palestinians — helped temper mistrust. This is an example of the coexistence between Arabs and Jews, and this is a very important thing, said Mohammad Ahmed Nasser Nawaja, wearing a traditional Arab robe and carrying the cell phone he charged thanks to the new power system.Meanwhile, word has spread to other villages lacking electricity. Comet-ME hopes to power up the remaining off-grid families in this area over the next four years.

Report: Tehran vows to blow up the heart of Israel if Iran is attacked Friday, 09 October 2009 10:25 News from Jerusalem .Iranian missiles could reach Israeli nuclear sites

IRAN would blow up the heart of Israel if it was attacked by the Jewish state or the US, a Revolutionary Guards official was quoted today as saying.Even if one American or Zionist missile hits our country, before the dust settles, Iranian missiles will blow up the heart of Israel, the IRNA news agency quoted Mojtaba Zolnour as saying.
Zolnour is a deputy representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the elite Guards force.Iranian officials have previously said Tehran would retaliate in event of an Israeli or US attack.Earlier this year, a senior commander said Iranian missiles could reach Israeli nuclear sites. Israel is believed to be the only nuclear-armed Middle East state.Israel has not ruled out military action if diplomacy fails to end a dispute over Iran's nuclear ambitions, echoing U.S. policy, although Washington is engaged in a drive to resolve the issue through direct talks with Iran. The West suspects the Islamic state is covertly seeking to develop nuclear weapons, which Iran denies. The Zionist regime and the United States cannot risk attacking Iran,Zolnour said in the holy Shi'ite city of Qom, citing Iranian military and technological advances, IRNA reported. The Australian: At talks in Geneva on Oct. 1, Iran agreed with six world powers - the US, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany - to give U.N. experts access to a newly-disclosed uranium enrichment plant south of Tehran.News Com Au

Hamas declares day of rage for Al-Aqsa Mosque Friday, 09 October 2009 06:48 News from Jerusalem .Muslim rioters in Jerusalem Old City

The Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas declared Friday a day of rage and called on its supporters to come out and demonstrate at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, on Temple Mount.
The call came Thursday, following days of tension at the Temple Mount compound as Palestinian protesters sporadically clashed with Israeli police patrolling the holy site.Leading religious figures in the Muslim world, such as Sheikh Yousuf al-Qaradawi, dubbed Friday protect Al-Aqsa day.Joining the call to protect the mosque were Palestinian politicians and religious figures, who have been trying to convince the lethargic public in Gaza to come out and demonstrate.Israel's Islamic Movement also joined the calls, urging Muslims within Israel to attend Friday's prayer at Al-Aqsa. The movement explained that they do not intend to confront anyone, but that prayer at the mosque is a basic right which they have no intention of relinquishing.

In efforts to curb the violence, Israel has instituted restrictions on worshippers entering the compound, allowing men only over 50 years of age to enter. However, no restriction has been placed on women. Consequently, thousands of women arrived at the Temple Mount compound on Thursday in organized buses from Arab towns across Israel, and a similar showing was expected on Friday.A spokesperson for the Islamic Movement in Israel told Haaretz that the tension at the site has been created by Israeli police, which has deployed an unprecedented presence around the mosque and in East Jerusalem in general. We repeat,he said. The Al-Aqsa Mosque is a holy place for Muslims and no one else has any right or ownership over it.The Islamic movement has asked not to address comments made recently by Rabbi Yosef Sholom Elyashiv, the nonagenarian leader of the Lithuanian sect of the ultra-Orthodox Ashkenazi community, who told President Shimon Peres that Jews should not make pilgrimages to the Temple Mount so as not to evoke global outrage.According to halacha (Jewish religious law), it is forbidden to ascend to Temple Mount,Rabbi Yosef Sholom Elyashiv is quoted by Israel Radio as telling President Shimon Peres.I've said this in the past, and I am once again repeating this statement that Jews are forbidden to go up to the site,Elyashiv said. The Islamic Movement responded to these remarks Thursday, saying that we don't need halacha quoted by this rabbi or another. We derive our legitimacy from the Koran and from the words of the prophet Mohammed. The Islamic Movement also criticized the indifference displayed by Muslim nations in the face of the clashes in Jerusalem. In a flyer the group disseminated, titled Al-Aqsa will be victorious, they said that anyone who harms Al-Aqsa is disrespecting every Muslim, wherever they are, and that despite the indifference and the incitement against the group and its leaders, the mosque will ultimately prevail.haaretz

Some 3,000 members of Likud, as well as thousands of right-wing supporters gathered on Wednesday in the Samaria National Park in the northern West Bank, to voice their support for further construction in the settlements.Samaria Regional Council leader Gershon Mesika, sent a direct message to the U.S. President Barack Obama in his address to the demonstration:Keep your hands off of Israel,he said.It is outside of your jurisdiction. Netanyahu should stand rock solid to protect his country.
Meanwhile, right-wing MK Danny Danon also passed on a message to Obama in a live interview on CNN and said Israel has no partner for peace, adding that U.S. pressure is causing problems for the Jewish people.

Danon also said, that despite Obama's charisma this is not Hollywood.More than 70 buses stood outside the park as thousands of settlement supporters congregated in the park's amphitheater to listen to the right-wind speeches in a demonstration headed by Danon. We need to remember that our hold on Jerusalem starts here, said Likud MK Tzipi Hatovely, who came to the demonstration with her entire family. We will demand that the prime minister continue to build in the West Bank, she added.

Among the top Likud members in attendance were rightist Moshe Feiglin and Minister Yuli Edelstein, who both said that they hoped the talks on a settlement freeze would finally end.Wednesday was one of the only days during the year that visitors were permitted into the national park due to security problems. The park roads are neglected and littered and the surrounding boasts several illegal construction sites.
Some 20 minutes from the Shomron park, in the settlement Revava, MK Danon organized another rally for non-Israeli supporters. We don't know what the government's policy on the settlement freeze is,Danon told the participants. It's obvious that if the policy changes there will be 5,000 people standing here instead of 1,000.A Likud activist now residing in Istanbul, who asked not to be named, told Haaretz that he was very proud of his country: There are brave people here who don't mind living with the Arabs. They're not afraid of anything,he said.haaretz

ON CAPITOL HILL Will your thoughts be subject to hate crimes law? Emergency campaigns seek messages to Washington October 09, 2009 12:24 pm Eastern
By Bob Unruh 2009 WorldNetDaily

A hate crimes law is looming in Washington, and at least two organizations are urging Americans to contact their representatives and even the president to express their concern over the plan's potential thought control aspects. WND has reported on the proposal numerous times, most recently just weeks ago when a key Senate vote happened in the wee hours when most Americans were asleep and a warning followed. The proposal – which creates federal protections and privileges for homosexuals and other alternative lifestyles but denies those protections to other groups of citizens – has been added to a defense spending bill. The U.S. House voted yesterday to approve the plan, and the Senate has expressed support. Once approved, it would head to President Obama, who is anxious to satisfy homosexual supporters who have complained he has not done enough for them. When the Senate earlier approved a key move, Mathew Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, said, In … months President Obama and the Democratic-led Congress have forced on the American people the most radical and and immoral agenda. The administration and the Democratic-led Congress are out of touch with the mainstream. They represent the most fringe extreme elements of America. They will not be able to continue their efforts to undermine moral values, socialize the economy and trash American pride and heritage.

The people will not remain silent forever,he said. The House vote prompted the American Family Association to alert its constituents and create a procedure for them to send e-mails to Washington about the plan.In its never-ending quest to shred America's Judeo-Christian value system, the left is planning to hurriedly push through a thought crimes bill, the alert said.So-called hate crimes laws are really laws that criminalize thought, because they punish an individual not for what he did but for what he thought. Politically incorrect thoughts about homosexual behavior will result in enhanced criminal sanctions under this law.The AFA said,Everywhere hate crimes laws have gone into effect, they have been quickly used to intimidate, silence and punish people of faith who express deeply held religious objections to the normalization of homosexuality.Such laws not only punish officially disapproved speech and thought, they create two tiers of victims. Under hate crimes laws, some victims get more protections than others, which violates the fundamental American principle of equality under the law,the alert said.In fact, such laws actively discriminate against heterosexual Christians who are victims of crime, since they will get less legal protection than homosexual victims. The American Family Association said since sexual orientation nowhere is defined in the law, this law will give pedophiles, voyeurs, and exhibitionists special protections, which is why the bill has correctly been called The Pedophile Protection Act.Also offering an online contact Washington process is the organization Pray in Jesus Name, founded by former U.S. Navy Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt, who was involuntarily removed from the U.S. military after he prayed in Jesus name. His organization submitted via fax almost 400,000 petitions to Washington opposing the hate crimes law. Also, a separate larger Fed Ex campaign to warn U.S. Senate members of the dangers of the hate crimes plan dispatched more than 705,000 letters to senators. The letter-writing effort was organized by WND columnist Janet Porter, who also heads the Faith2Action Christian ministry. It allowed citizens to send individually addressed letters to all 100 senators over their own signature for only $10.95.

Concerned individuals may e-mail their respective senators or call 1(877) 851-6437 or 1(202) 224-3121.Klingenschmitt said,Please call 202-456-1111 today, and tell White House comment line operators: Mr. President, please keep your promise and veto the F-35 second engine in the Pentagon Budget, 2010 Defense Authorization Act.Several months ago, President Obama promised to veto the Pentagon budget if it contained funding for the F-22 or a second engine for the F-35. The Senate killed the F-22, but after receiving nearly 22,000 faxes from us in the last 48 hours, the House ignored Obama's veto threat and voted Thursday to fully fund a second engine for F-35s. The House also sadly attached the pro-homosexual Hate Crimes bill, which had nothing to do with Pentagon spending, to the budget as a poison pill. If President Obama vetoes the F-35 second engine, as he promised when speaking in Phoenix last spring, he will ironically kill the homosexual agenda and their evil Pedophile Protection Act,he wrote.Attempts by Republicans to add amendments stating pedophilia is not protected as a sexual orientation were blocked by House Democrats. In fact, Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., said all alternative sexual lifestyles should be protected. This bill addresses our resolve to end violence based on prejudice and to guarantee that all Americans regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability or all of these philias and fetishes and isms that were put forward need not live in fear because of who they are. I urge my colleagues to vote in favor of this rule,he said.Further, the proposal has a broad definition of intimidation,so a Christian pastor's sermon could be considered hate speech if heard by an individual who then acts aggressively against someone based on sexual orientation. The pastor, Klingenschmitt said, could be prosecuted for conspiracy to commit a hate crime or inciting violence against gays for quoting the Bible. As it went through the House, the version was H.R. 1913, or the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009. The Senate then worked on its own version, and it ultimately was added as an amendment to a defense spending plan.As WND reported, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder admitted a homosexual activist who is attacked following a Christian minister's sermon about homosexuality would be protected by the proposed federal law, but a minister attacked by a homosexual wouldn't be.The revelations came from Holder's June testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which was taking comments on the proposal. The measure also was the subject of discussion on talk radio host Rush Limbaugh's July 3 show. This is the question,Limbaugh said.(Sen.) Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) presents a hypothetical where a minister gives a sermon, quotes the Bible about homosexuality and is thereafter attacked … by a gay activist because of what the minister said about his religious beliefs and what Scripture says about homosexuality. Is the minister protected?

No, said Holder.Well, the statute would not – would not necessarily cover that, Holder stated. We're talking about crimes that have a historic basis. Groups who have been targeted for violence as a result of the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, that is what this statute tends – is designed to cover. We don't have the indication that the attack was motivated by a person's desire to strike at somebody who was in one of these protected groups. That would not be covered by the statute.Continued Limbaugh,In other words: ministers and whites are not covered by the hate crime statute because we're talking about crimes that have a historic basis, groups who have been targeted for violence as a result of their skin color, sexual orientation. So hate crimes are reserved exclusively for blacks and homosexuals. Everybody else can get to the back of the bus on this one.The bill was nicknamed The Pedophile Protection Act when Rep. Steve King proposed an amendment during its trek through the U.S. House that would specify pedophiles could not use the law to protect their activities.

Majority Democrats flatly refused.

Erik Stanley, senior legal counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund, told WND the move is alarming because this would be the very first governmental and societal disapproval of a sincerely held religious belief, held by a majority of Americans, namely that homosexual behavior is immoral. It's the first time the federal government is writing into law a disapproval of that belief,he said. While he said he doesn't believe there will be immediate prosecutions of pastors and churches for teaching the biblical injunction that homosexual behavior is sin,I think the effect on speech and religious speech is nonetheless real.He said he does expect that pastors soon will begin being called to testify in hate crime cases in court as to what that pastor preaches, what the church teaches, what the Bible teaches. When this happens, there will be a shock wave through pastorates in America,he said. Ultimately, he warned that the homosexual advocates who have pushed the hate crimes plan consider this law just the first step toward silencing Christians. That development already has been observed not only with the enactment of hate crimes laws in other nations but in the hate crime related speech codes existing on many university campuses in the U.S., Stanley said.President Obama, supported strongly during his campaign by homosexual advocates, has indicated he would like to see the legislation become law.I urge members on both sides of the aisle to act on this important civil rights issue by passing this legislation to protect all of our citizens from violent acts of intolerance,he said.

HOARDING OF GOLD AND SILVER

DOCTOR DOCTORIAN FROM ANGEL OF GOD
then the angel said, Financial crisis will come to Asia. I will shake the world.

JAMES 5:1-3
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

REVELATION 18:10,17,19
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

EZEKIEL 7:19
19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

Gold eases from highs as dollar recovers - Fed chairman lifts dollar with hint of monetary tightening October 9, 2009

Gold eased in Europe on Friday, consolidating after hitting record highs for three straight sessions, as an indication from the US Federal Reserve chief that monetary policy may be tightened lifted the dollar.Spot gold was bid at $1 046.10 (R7 720) an ounce at 11:38 SA time against $1 054.00 late in New York on Thursday and opening up a gap on its record this week of above $1 060 an ounce.US gold futures for December delivery on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange fell $8.80 to $1 047.50.Fed chairman Ben Bernanke said at a conference on Thursday he was thinking of an exit strategy from quantitative easing and low interest rates as the US economy improves. The statement lifted the dollar index, which measures the US unit's performance against a basket of six other major currencies, from 14-month lows. The high inflation concerns upon which gold has been soaring until now may start to fade as the Fed (favours) a stronger dollar, said Pradeep Unni, senior analyst at Richcomm Global Services. The dollar's decline had pushed gold to a series of record highs, peaking at $1 061.20 an ounce on Thursday, as investors bought the metal as an alternative to paper currencies. A weak dollar also makes gold cheaper for non-US investors.Despite the dollar's bounce, persistent fears over currency market instability are seen pushing gold to further records this year as funds buy the metal as an alternative asset. It seems people are beginning to realise the real effect of quantitative easing -- not only the threat to inflation, but the threat to fiat (official) currencies, said Nick Bullman, managing partner of hedge fund Bullman Investment Management. If you carry on just printing money, eventually people will start to look for another store of value.

WEAK PHYSICAL DEMAND

Physical demand for gold remains weak as high prices deter jewellers, traditionally the main buyers of gold. Buying in India, the world's largest bullion market last year, has been lacklustre despite the onset of the festival season. The impact of a soaring dollar gold price had been cushioned for domestic buyers by strength in the rupee, but the Indian currency snapped five days of gains on Friday to weaken.Other major centres for physical gold trade have also seen no upturn in sales during the present price run-up, suggesting it is based on large investment rather than broad-based demand.Dubai, a key demand centre for gold, hasn't reported any large rise in demand, said Unni.Retail jewellery units fear the traditional buying quantities will be far less this time during the festive season.Among other precious metals, silver also retreated from the 14-month high at $17.92 an ounce it hit on Thursday, tracking the dollar and gold prices. Spot silver was at $17.56 an ounce against $17.72.Spot platinum was at $1 335 an ounce against $1 344.50, while palladium was at $322.50 against $318. The metal used in autocatalysts hit a peak of $323, its highest since mid-August, earlier on Friday.Palladium, which according to dealers underperformed other precious metals earlier this year, has been lifted by gains in gold, hopes demand will improve as the economy recovers and concerns over the availability of Russian stocks. It is still good value to invest at these kinds of levels, said one platinum group metals trader.Demand will certainly improve, and on the Russian side there is talk of some tightness coming through. That may be the general feeling in the market.- Reuters

Harper says he expects job market to fluctuate Fri Oct 9, 2:20 pm ET

OTTAWA (Reuters) – Canada's job market could well fluctuate in coming months despite unexpectedly good jobs news in September, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Friday.Employers hired six times more workers than forecast in September, cutting the jobless rate for the first time since July 2008 in another sign the economy is rebounding from a deep recession. We have some good news today. I don't think we're out of the woods. I think in the next few months we could still see a lot of up and down,Harper told a televised news conference in Welland, Ontario. My big concern remains the United States. ... We have to be realistic that these problems in the United States do continue to create real drags on the Canadian economy,he said.

Japan to obtain rights to platinum in Africa Fri Oct 9, 5:49 am ET

TOKYO (AFP) – Resource-poor Japan has obtained rights to develop platinum mines in South Africa and Botswana in a bid to ensure a stable supply of the metal, officials said on Friday. The government-backed Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corp. (JOGMEC) has signed a contract with Discovery Metals in Australia to jointly develop nickel and platinum mines in northeast Botswana, it said in a statement. It has inked another deal with Canadian firm Platinum Group Metals to explore for platinum in South Africa. It will pay three million Australian dollars (2.7 million US dollars) to Discovery Metals over three years for exploration costs, in return for 60 percent of the rights to the metals.JOGMEC will pay 3.2 million US dollars to Platinum Group Metals over four years for a 37 percent share, it said in a statement.Japan has in recent years worked to strengthen ties with African countries to ensure supplies of resources including precious metals.

Nigeria's oil output between 1.6-1.7 mln bpd : minister Thu Oct 8, 4:01 pm ET

ABUJA (AFP) – Nigeria's crude oil output is hovering between 1.6 and 1.7 million barrels per day following an amnesty deal to militants who waged a violent oil war, the petroleum minister said Thursday.Condensate and crude oil, we are doing about two million bpd. Crude oil fluctuates between 1.6 and 1.7 million bpd,Petroleum Minister Rilwan Lukman said in an interview. The figure is a million barrels less from the 2.6 million bpd the world's eighth largest oil producer used to pump in 2005before the onset of the oil insurgency in the southern Niger Delta.Nigeria's oil production fell to about 1.3 million barrels per day recently due attacks by Niger Delta militants, the minister had told reporters at the end of August. We hope output will improve, after the amnesty, the minister said.We have a capacity of producing over three million bpd, the more peace we have, the more stability we have, we should be able to produce more,he said.He said the country has been able to fulfil its OPEC quota. It fluctuates from day to day, (but) we are meeting our quota,he added.

Militant activities in the oil-rich region -- including kidnappings of mostly foreign oil workers and sabotaging oil installations -- have hit output.Nigeria ranked eighth among the 12-nation global oil cartel, the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), and is still struggling to regain its position as African leading oil producer having been overtaken by Angola.President Umaru Yar'Adua had in June declared amnesty for all Niger Delta militants who dropped their arms to embrace peace. The amnesty, which officially took off on August 6, ended on October 4.More than 8,000 of the militants who laid down arms have so far been registered but the number could double when the documentation is complete, officials said on Thursday.Figures released by Timiebi Koripamo-Agary, spokeswoman of the government amnesty team, showed that as of Tuesday -- two days after the amnesty deadline -- 8,299 militants had been recorded in seven oil-producing states in the south of Nigeria.

Stocks post their best week since July By Sara Lepro, Ap Business Writer – Fri Oct 9, 5:54 pm ET

NEW YORK – The stock market is keeping its momentum going, giving shares their best week in more than two months.Moderate gains on Friday led by health care and utility companies pushed stocks to a 4 percent gain for the week, their best performance since July. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 78 points, reaching its highest level in a year.Bond prices tumbled, extending the previous day's losses, as the Treasury market struggled to absorb $71 billion of new supply auctioned off this week in the government's ongoing efforts to fund its stimulus programs. The market's performance was a fitting way to commemorate the second anniversary of the record highs set by the Dow and the Standard & Poor's 500 index, which closed at 14,164.53 and 1,565.15 respectively. It was after reaching those milestones that the market began what turned into a cataclysmic slide that ended March 9.This week investors cheered more signs that the economy is healing, including growth in service industries, a surprise profit from aluminum maker Alcoa Inc. and the first gain in retail sales in over a year. That helped put a seven-month rally back on track after two down weeks driven by disappointing economic data. The dollar recovered some of its recent losses against other currencies Friday after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke reassured markets that the Fed will wind down its extraordinary stimulus measures when the time is right. Some investors interpreted Bernanke's comments as a sign the Fed might raise interest rates sooner than expected.

The dollar is a double-edged sword for the stock market. The dollar would benefit from higher interest rates but if the Fed tightens credit too soon it could choke off an economic recovery. On the other hand a continued fall in the dollar, which is more likely with lower interest rates, could trigger inflation. What's particularly concerning for investors is if there is a sharp, sustained move (by the dollar) in one direction or another, said Jordan Smyth, managing director at Edgemoor Investment Advisors. The moderate rise in stocks Friday comes two years to the day after the market hit its peak. The Dow is still down 30.4 percent from its high on Oct. 9, 2007, while the S&P 500 index is down 31.5 percent. The Dow rose 78.07, or 0.8percent, to 9,864.94, its highest close since Oct. 6 last year. The S&P 500 index rose 6.01, or 0.6 percent, to 1,071.49, while the Nasdaq composite index rose 15.35, or 0.7 percent, to 2,139.28.For the week, the Dow rose 4 percent, its biggest gain since the week ended July 24. The S&P 500 index rose 4.5 percent, its best performance since the week ended July 17. The Nasdaq added 4.5 percent.Bond prices fell sharply as selling that was sparked by a weak auction of 30-year bonds on Thursday continued. The 30-year bond fell more than 2 points — its biggest one-day drop in nearly three months — sending its yield up to 4.22 percent from 4.09 percent late Thursday. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note rose to 3.38 percent from 3.25 percent.Despite the big gain in stocks this week, analysts warn that trading could be bumpy in the coming weeks as investors sift through companies' quarterly earnings reports. Major financial firms will report results next week, including JPMorgan Chase & Co., Citigroup Inc. and Bank of America Corp. Better-than-expected earnings from banks this year have been a big force behind the market's rally.Investors, having sent the S&P 500 index up 58.4 percent since March, are looking for reassurance from companies that the economy is growing. The market has factored in good earnings and the market has actually discounted good guidance as well, said Jim Herrick, director of equity trading, Baird & Co. So if we don't see that, the market will retrace.

Outside of earnings reports, the dollar will remain a focus. The slide in the dollar has been a boon to both stocks and commodities this year. A weak dollar makes commodities more attractive to foreign investors. Likewise, it helps boost corporate profits at companies that have a strong presence overseas by making prices of their exported goods cheaper for buyers in other countries.Oil prices rose 8 cents to settle at $71.77 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold prices slipped after touching a fresh high of $1,062.70 on Thursday.Three stocks rose for every two that fell on the New York Stock Exchange, where consolidated volume came to a relatively low 990 million shares, compared with 1.3 billion Thursday. In other trading, the Russell 2000 index of smaller companies rose 7.17, or 1.2 percent, to 614.92.Overseas, Britain's FTSE 100 rose 0.1 percent, Germany's DAX index dipped 0.1 percent and France's CAC-40 fell 0.2 percent. Japan's Nikkei stock average rose 1.9 percent. The Dow Jones industrial average closed the week up 377.27, or 4 percent, at 9,864.94. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 46.28, or 4.5 percent, to 1,071.49. The Nasdaq composite index rose 91.17, or 4.5 percent, to 2,139.28.The Russell 2000 index, which tracks the performance of small company stocks, rose 34.72, or 6 percent, for the week to 614.92.The Dow Jones U.S. Total Stock Market Index — which measures nearly all U.S.-based companies — ended at 10,963.48, up 493.93, or 4.7 percent.

EDF, Constellation nuclear venture get US nod Fri Oct 9, 4:55 pm ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US regulators have approved a plan for French-based EDF to take a stake in Constellation Energy Group, clearing a key hurdle for a new nuclear power plant in Maryland, the companies said Friday. The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved the investment structure and license transfer related to EDF's acquisition of 49.99 percent of Constellation Energy's nuclear assets, a joint statement said.

The investment was previously reported to have cost 4.5 billion dollars.

The companies said EDF's has now received all necessary approvals at the federal level and clearance from the New York Public Service Commission. They said that completing this nuclear joint venture is critical to the proposed construction of a new nuclear unit at Constellation Energy's Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, which would represent one of the largest industrial development projects in Maryland. It would create 4,000 construction jobs, 400 permanent positions, and enough new, clean energy to power 1.3 million homes, the statement said. This historic nuclear joint venture has the potential to deliver extraordinary value for Maryland and we're eager to complete this transaction and begin delivering those benefits as quickly as possible. It said discussions are continuing with state officials on the plan.
Constellation owns 3,869 megawatts of nuclear generating capacity in the United States. The French state owns around 85 percent of EDF, the world's biggest producer of nuclear energy.

China tells US to back off after Dalai Lama award OCT 9,09

BEIJING – China accused the United States on Friday of meddling in its domestic affairs after American lawmakers recognized the Dalai Lama with an award for his efforts to improve human rights. The U.S. Congress presented the award, which was in honor of the late U.S. human rights activist Tom Lantos, to the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader on Tuesday.China reviles the Dalai Lama and has pressured foreign governments not to meet with the Nobel Peace Prize laureate. We urge some members of the U.S. Congress to respect the history and the facts, recognize the true face of Dalai Lama, stop using the Tibet issue to interfere in China's internal affairs, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said in a statement posted on the ministry's Web site. The criticism comes even though President Barack Obama did not meet the Dalai Lama during the trip. Obama said he would not meet the spiritual leader until after he visits President Hu Jintao in November. The Lantos Foundation president, Katrina Lantos Swett, called China's criticism unwarranted and commended members of Congress for supporting the Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama is one of the most highly honored peacemakers of all time, and we are proud to present His Holiness the Dalai Lama with the inaugural Lantos Human Rights Prize,Swett said in a statement. We can only hope that this award brings into public light the continuing human rights violations in Tibet, so that they can be addressed. The Obama administration, which needs Chinese support for crucial foreign policy, economic and environmental goals, must balance efforts to establish friendly ties with China with the desire to support the Dalai Lama, who has called for more autonomy for Tibetans.China says Tibet has been part of its territory for four centuries, and it has aggressively governed the Himalayan region since communist troops took control there in 1951. Many Tibetans say they were effectively independent for most of their history and say Chinese rule and economic exploitation are eroding their traditional Buddhist culture.

East Asia powers show united front on North Korea, economy By Yoko Nishikawa – OCT 10,09

BEIJING (Reuters) – China, Japan and South Korea vowed to seek an early restart to talks aimed at ending North Korea's nuclear weapons ambitions, and also presented a united front on regional economic cooperation at a summit on Saturday. The broad promises to work together on security and economic issues came at a meeting between Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and new Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, who has made strengthening regional ties a keynote of his foreign policy. We will make joint efforts with other parties for an early resumption of the Six-Party Talks, so as to safeguard peace and stability in Northeast Asia, said the joint statement issued by the leaders at the end of their talks in the Chinese capital. The three countries remain committed to the development of an East Asian community based on the principles of openness, transparency and inclusiveness as a long term goal. The vows to cooperate on North Korea and on economic growth are unlikely to make any immediate difference. But they underscored the growing pull for the three Asian powers to set aside some of their friction and seek common ground. The show of unity may also add pressure on North Korea to return to nuclear disarmament negotiations. Beijing is the closest the isolated North has to an ally. The combined GDP of Japan, China and South Korea accounts for 16 percent of the world's total output, with Japan and China respectively the world's second- and third-biggest economies. In April, a month before its second nuclear test, North Korea said the six-party talks -- among the two Koreas, China, Japan, Russia and the United States -- were defunct. It walked away from those talks last December.

HEAVILY HEDGED

This week, North Korea's top leader Kim Jong-il offered visiting Chinese Premier Wen a heavily hedged statement that his government could return to multilateral negotiations, possibly the six-party talks, provided it first saw satisfactory progress in any two-way talks with the United States.Washington has said it is open to talks with Pyongyang as long as that leads to a resumption of the six-party talks.

Hatoyama, who took office on September 16 after his Democratic Party trounced the long-dominant Liberal Democratic Party, has said he will seek stronger ties with Beijing, which have long been strained by distrust over history, sea boundary disputes and worries over China's growing military and political clout.Tokyo's relations with Beijing and Seoul chilled during then-prime minister Junichiro Koizumi's 2001-2006 tenure when his visits to the Yasukuni Shrine for war dead outraged Japan's neighbors, who see the Shinto site as an unrepentant symbol of Japan's past militarism. All three of Koizumi's Liberal Democratic Party successors refrained from paying respects at the shrine, driven at least in part by a desire for steadier political and economic cooperation with fast-growing China.Wen, Lee and Hatoyama also sought to highlight hopes for deeper economic cooperation and integration. In the spirit of facing history squarely and advancing toward the future, the three countries will explore the potential and expand the area of cooperation, the leaders said. They will step up efforts to improve the quality of economic development, oppose trade protectionism, and seek progress in the Doha round of trade liberalization talks, the leaders said.China is now Japan's biggest trading partner, and the second largest export destination after the United States. South Korea, meanwhile, was Japan's third-biggest export market in 2008. Hatoyama has been seeking deeper ties with Asian partners and has promoted the idea of a regional grouping inspired by the example of the European Union. The joint statement stressed that an East Asia community was a long-term goal.China-Japan-ROK cooperation will have many opportunities for development in the coming decade, said the statement. The ROK is the Republic of Korea, the official name of South Korea.
