FIRST ANGEL TO DR DOCTORIAN
The first angel said: I have a message for all of Asia. When he said that, in a split few seconds, I could see all of China, India, the Asian countries like Vietnam, Laos - I've never been to those countries. I saw the Philippines, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. And then the angel showed me all of Papua New Guinea, Irian Jaya and down to Australia and New Zealand.I am the angel of Asia, he said. And in
his hand I saw a tremendous trumpet that he is going to blow all over Asia. Whatever the angel said, it's going to happen with the trumpet of the Lord all over Asia. Millions are going to hear the mighty voice of the Lord. Then the angel said, There shall be disaster, starvation - many will die from hunger. Strong winds will be looked like has never happened before. A great part shall be shaken and destroyed. Earthquakes will take place all over Asia and the sea will cover the earth.I saw this on June 20. Today is August 16. A few weeks ago I heard the news of villages completely wiped out and washed into the sea in Papua New Guinea. Thousand of lives in great jeopardy. That happened a few weeks ago, and the angel told me it is going to happen all over Asia. The earth will fall into the sea, I heard the angel say, part of Australia will be shaken. Australia will be divided, and a great part will go under the ocean. This was frightening - I wondered whether I was hearing right. But the angel said,Millions will die in China and in India. Nation will be against nation, brother against brother. Asians will fight each other. Nuclear weapons shall be used, killing millions. Twice I heard the words,  Catastrophic! Catastrophic! then the angel said, Financial crisis will come to Asia. I will shake the world.I was trembling while the angel was speaking. Then he looked at me and smiled and
said, There shall be the greatest spiritual awakening - bondage will be broken. Barriers will be removed. And all over Asia - China - India - people will turn to Christ. In Australia there shall be tremendous revival. I heard the angel of Asia say, It is the last harvest.Then as if the Lord were speaking, he said, I shall prepare My church for the return of Christ. I was happy with such good news after the message of judgment. All the time the five angels were in my room I could feel their presence - it was tremendous.


SECOND ANGEL TO DR DOCTORIAN
Then I saw that the second angel had a sickle in his hand, such as is used in harvesting. The second angel said, Harvest time has come in Israel and the countries all the way to Iran. I saw those countries in a few split seconds. All of Turkey and those [inaudible;] countries that have refused me and refused my message of love shall hate each other and kill one another. I saw the angel raise the sickle and come down on all the Middle East countries.I saw Iran, Persia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, all of Georgia - Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, all of Asia Minor - full of blood. I saw blood all over these countries. And I saw fire; Nuclear weapons used in many of those countries. Smoke rising from everywhere. Sudden destruction - men destroying one another.I heard these words, Israel, Oh Israel, the great judgment has come.The angel said, The chosen, the church, the remnant, shall be purified. The Spirit of God shall prepare the children of God. I saw fires rising
to heaven. The angel said, This is the final judgment. My church shall be purified, protected and ready for the final day. Men will die from thirst. Water shall be scarce all over the Middle East. Rivers shall dry up, and men will fight for water in those countries.The angel showed me that the United Nations shall be broken in pieces because of the crisis in the Middle East. There shall be no more United Nations. The
angel with the sickle shall reap the harvest.

THIRD ANGEL TO DR DOCTORIAN
Then one of the angels with wings showed me Europe from one end to the other - from the north all the way down to Spain and Portugal. In his hand he had a scale of measurement. I saw him fly over Europe, and I heard the words, I am grieved. I am grieved. Unrighteousness, uncleanness, ungodliness - all over Europe. The sin has risen to heaven. The Holy Spirit is grieved. I saw the rivers of Europe flooding and covering millions of houses. Millions drown. After seeing this, I read the news a few weeks ago. Czechoslovakia had the worst flooding ever. I also heard that the big river in China is in tremendous danger of thousands of houses being destroyed in flooding. I didn't know all this news until after I had seen the vision and heard what the angels told me.Suddenly I heard earthquakes all over Europe.  Countries that have had no earthquakes shall be shaken, said the angel. And suddenly, in my spirit, I saw the Eiffel Tower in Paris crumbling falling down. A great part of Germany destroyed. The great city of London - destruction everywhere. I saw floods all over Scandinavia. I looked to the south and saw Spain and Portugal passing through hunger and great destruction.Many will die from hunger all over Spain and Portugal. I was disturbed by all this news, and I said, Lord, what about your children? The angel said, I shall prepare them. They shall be looking for the appearing of the Lord. Many will cry to me in those days and I will save them. I shall perform mighty miracles for them and show them My power. So in the midst of great destruction, there will be the grace of God in those countries. I was happy that God has His protection over His children.

FOURTH ANGEL TO DR DOCTORIAN
Now we go to Africa. I saw the fourth angel with wings fly over Africa, and I could see from Capetown in the south all the way to the north of Cairo - I saw all the countries there, more than fifty of them. The angel of Africa had a sword in his hand - a tremendous, sharp sword. Suddenly I heard him say, Innocent blood has been shed. Divisions amongst the people generations far from the Lord - they have killed one another, thousands of people. I have seen my faithful children in Africa, and I shall reward all the faithful in the continent of Africa. I shall bless them abundantly. I shall control the weather - scorching and burning of the sun in some parts. Great rivers shall dry up, and millions will die from starvation. In other parts, flooding. Foundations shall be shaken. My sword shall judge the unrighteous and the bloodthirsty. So many earthquakes shall happen that rivers shall flow different directions in the continent, flooding many villages. I saw great pieces falling from the sky over different parts of Africa .There shall be trembling of the earth like has not been seen since the creation. None shall escape the sword of the Lord. I saw the River Nile drying up. It is the god of Egypt. Fishes dead and stinking all over Egypt. A great part of the middle of Africa will be covered with water - millions dying. Lord, I said, It is all bad news. All destruction. Any good news? The Lord said, The final day has come. Judgment day is here. My love has been refused now, and the end has come. I was shaking and trembling. I thought I cannot bear it.

FIFTH ANGEL TO DR DOCTORIAN
Then I saw the last angel flying over North and South America - all the way from the North Pole down to Argentina. From the east of the U.S.A. to California. I saw in his hand a bowl. The angel said he would pour out over these countries the judgments that were in the bowl. Then I heard the angel say, No justice anymore. No righteousness. No holiness. Idolatry. Materialism. Drunkenness. Bondage of sin. Shedding of innocent blood - millions of babies being killed before they are born. Families are broken. An adulterous generation. Sodom and Gomorrah is here. The days of Noah are here. False preachers. False prophets. Refusing of my love. Many of them have the imitation of religion, but denying the real power.When I heard all that, I begged the angel, Can you not wait for a little while? Don't pour it. Give a chance for repentance.The angel said, Many times God has spared and has spoken, but they have not listened. His patience has come to an end. Beware, the time has come. They have loved money and pleasure more than they have loved Me. As the angel began to pour from the bowl in his hand, I saw tremendous icebergs melting. When that happened I saw floods all over Canada and North America - all the rivers flood; destruction everywhere. I heard the world market collapsing with mighty earthquakes, and New York skyscrapers were tumbling - millions dying.I saw ships in the ocean sinking. I heard explosions all over the north country. I saw the angel pouring over Mexico and two oceans joining together- the Atlantic and the Pacific. A great part of north Brazil covered with water, the Amazon River turning into a great sea. Forests destroyed and flooded. Major cities in Brazil destroyed; earthquakes in many places. As the angel poured, great destruction took place in Chile and Argentina as never before. The whole world was shaking. Then I heard the angel say, This will happen in a very short time.I said, Can't you postpone? Don't pour these things out all over the globe. And suddenly I saw the five angels standing around the globe lifting up their hands and their wings towards heaven and saying, All glory to the Lord of heaven and earth. Now the time has come and He will glorify His Son. The earth shall be burned and destroyed. All things shall pass away. The new Heaven and New Earth shall come. God shall destroy the works of the devil forever. I shall show My power - how I will protect My children in the midst of all this destruction.

Be ready for that day, for the Lord has come.My room was full of light from the brightness of the angels. Then suddenly they ascended up to heaven. As I looked up I saw the angels go in five directions. I know they already have started their duties. For more than an hour I could not move. I was wide-awake, trembling from time to time. I said, Lord, shall I leave Patmos now? He said, No, I brought you here for a purpose. I said,The message from the angels all over the world is not good news. It is judgment, punishment, destruction, devastation. What will people say about me? I've always been a preacher of love, peace and good news. The angel said, It is our message. You are the instrument, the channel. What a privilege that God has chosen you to give this message to the nations. I said, Lord, Thy will be done.To God be the glory. 

What If Earth's Magnetic Poles Flip?

The end of the world as we know it could come in any number of ways, depending on who you ask. Some people believe global cataclysm will occur when Earth's magnetic poles reverse. When north goes south, they say, the continents will lurch in one direction or the other, triggering massive earthquakes, rapid climate change and species extinctions.
The geologic record shows that hundreds of pole reversals have occurred throughout Earth's history; they happen when patches of iron atoms in Earth's liquid outer core become reverse-aligned, like tiny magnets oriented in the opposite direction from those around them. When the reversed patches grow to the point that they dominate the rest of the core, Earth's overall magnetic field flips. The last reversal happened 780,000 years ago during the Stone Age, and indeed there's evidence to suggest the planet may be in the early stages of a pole reversal right now.But should we really fear this event? What will actually happen when north-pointing compasses make a 180-degree turn toward Antarctica? Will the continents tear themselves apart, or are we in store for much more mundane changes?

Weak field
"The most dramatic changes that occur when the poles reverse is a very large decrease of the total field intensity," said Jean-Pierre Valet, who conducts research on geomagnetic reversals at the Institute of Earth Physics of Paris. [5 Ways the World Will Change Dramatically this Century]
Earth's magnetic field takes between 1,000 and 10,000 years to reverse, and in the process, it greatly diminishes before it re-aligns. "It's not a sudden flip, but a slow process, during which the field strength becomes weak, very probably the field becomes more complex and might show more than two poles for a while, and then builds up in strength and [aligns] in the opposite direction," said Monika Korte, the scientific director of the Niemegk Geomagnetic Observatory at GFZ Potsdam in Germany.

The scientists say it's the weak in-between phase that would be roughest on Earthlings.
According to John Tarduno, professor of geophysics at the University of Rochester, a strong magnetic field helps protect Earth from blasts of radiation from the sun. "Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) occasionally occur on the Sun, and sometimes hurtle directly toward Earth," Tarduno said. "Some of the particles associated with CMEs can be blocked by Earth's magnetic field. With a weak field, this shielding is less efficient."The charged particles bombarding Earth's atmosphere during solar storms would punch holes in Earth's atmosphere, and this could hurt humans. "Ozone holes, like that over Antarctica (which today are due to an entirely different cause related to man) could form as solar particles interact with the atmosphere in a cascade of chemical reactions. These 'holes' would not be permanent, but might be present on one- to 10-year timescales — arguably important enough to be a concern in terms of skin cancer rates," Tarduno said. He wrote a paper last year proposing a direct link between the demise of Neanderthals, our evolutionary cousins, and a significant decrease of the geomagnetic field intensity that occurred exactly at the same period. (That time, the lead-up to a geomagnetic reversal appears to have been "aborted"; the field weakened but didn't end up flipping.)

Other scientists aren't convinced that there's a connection between pole reversals and species extinctions. "Even if the field becomes very weak, at the Earth's surface we are shielded from radiation by the atmosphere. Similarly as we cannot see or feel the presence of the geomagnetic field now, we most likely would not notice any significant change from a reversal," Korte said.Our technology definitely would be in danger, however. Even now, solar storms can damage satellites, cause power outages and interrupt radio communications. "These kinds of negative influences clearly will increase if the magnetic field and thus its shielding function became significantly weaker, e.g. during a reversal, and it will be important to find mitigation strategies," she told Life's Little Mysteries.One additional worry is that a weakening and eventual reversal in the field would disorient all those species that rely on geomagnetism for navigation, including bees, salmon, turtles, whales, bacteria and pigeons. There is no scientific consensus on how those creatures would cope.

Continental shifts?
Many of the disaster scenarios associated with geomagnetic pole reversals in popular imagination are pure fantasy, the scientists said. There definitely won't be any break-up or shift of the continents.The first proof is the geologic record. When the last pole switch happened, "no worldwide shifting of continents or other planet-wide disasters occurred, as geoscientists can testify to from fossil and other records," said Alan Thompson, head of geomagnetism at the British Geological Survey.The scientists explained that changes in the Earth's liquid core happen on a completely different distance and timescale than convection in the Earth's mantle (which causes Earth's tectonic plates to shift, moving the continents). The liquid core does indeed touch the bottom of the mantle, but it would take tens of millions of years for changes in the core to propagate up through the mantle and influence the motion of the tectonic plates. In short, "there is no evidence from the geological past and in my opinion also no conceivable method that magnetic reversals couldtrigger Earthquakes," Korte said.

Sooner or later
The geomagnetic field is currently weakening, possibly because of a growing patch of reverse-alignment in the liquid core deep beneath Brazil and the South Atlantic. According to Tarduno, the strength of Earth's magnetic field "has been decreasing for at least 160 years at an alarming rate, leading some to speculate that we are heading toward a reversal."

The reversal might happen, or it might be aborted — Earth is too complex a system for scientists to know which outcome to expect. Bypassing sanctions and with help from Iran, Syria steps up missile production

Jane’s Defence Weekly says Assad regime is churning out rockets at pre-war rates, including ones slated for Hezbollah

Syria is accelerating its production of missiles and rockets, effectively circumventing international sanctions imposed on it, according to the authoritative Jane’s Defence Weekly.The magazine, which deals with military and security matters, presented evidence that the regime has upgraded its weapons capacity with the assistance of countries including Iran, North Korea and Belarus.Jane’s reported that the Syria Scientific Studies and Research Center is responsible for the production of chemical weapons in Syria and oversees most of the regime’s missile projects. Yet according to the magazine, officials in the international community, including the UN, Russia and the United States, do not supervise the operations of the research center and have not imposed specific sanctions on it.Jane’s added that although Syria has begun the process of destroying its chemical weapons arsenal, the SSRC still possesses the requisite knowledge to produce a host of warheads containing deadly chemical elements, including sarin, VX and Yperite.The report reveals that the Assad regime has gone back to producing missiles and medium- to long-range rockets at a rate similar to that prior to the start of the country’s brutal civil war in March 2011. The two main reasons for the regime’s enhanced weapons production are an increased need for missiles in order to combat opposing rebel forces, and Hezbollah’s desire to acquire rockets and missiles stationed on Syrian soil.Israel has hit Syrian missile facilities several times in the recent past, and has declared that it will not allow advanced weaponry to reach Hezbollah. The latest such reported Israeli air strike was on a missile warehouse in Latakia on Sunday night.

Jane’s report was published at the weekend — a particularity sensitive time, just as international factions convened in Switzerland for the “Geneva II” summit in an attempt to bring about a ceasefire between the Syrian regime and its opposition. So far, the conference has produced no notable achievements, except for an agreement to allow entry of humanitarian aid to Homs and to evacuate civilians from the area.In surprising detail, Jane’s presented data on both chemical and conventional weapons production plants in Syria operated by the research center.It said that chemical weapons production plants belonging to Institute 3000 have been closed down, and Branch 450, the production division of the institute, has been dismantled. But meanwhile, increased activity was observed at Institute 4000, which is responsible for the production of missiles and rockets. Some of its factories were moved to safer locations for fear that opposition forces would take control of them. Branch 340, responsible for missile research and development, which was previously located in Aleppo, as well as Branches 702 and 350, were all transferred to different locations.

The new rockets and missiles produced in SSRC facilities are considered more lethal in terms of their ability to inflict damage, though they are reported to be less accurate and have a more limited range.

Iran, Hezbollah, and the new missiles

One of the most interesting details presented by Jane’s relates to Project 702, an initiative that operates under Iranian supervision. The project has produced missiles intended for Hezbollah’s use, including an improved version of the Khaybar 1 missile, which has a range of about 100 km. Project 702 is now attempting to replace the liquid fuel currently used in missiles with solid fuel.According to Jane’s, the SSRC bought weapons components from foreign countries through the use of shell companies or through intermediaries, both Syrians and foreigners living outside Syria. The intermediaries, Jane’s reported, purchased electronic parts and computers, among other things, from foreign countries, in exchange for funds provided to them by the research center. Jane’s added that when these efforts encountered obstacles, Syria would turn to its experienced allies which have been bypassing international sanctions for years, namely Iran and North Korea.Besides these two infamous Syrian allies, the regime also concocted a deal with a company in Belarus specializing in the production and development of weapons. The company, Belvneshpromservice, negotiated with a Syrian shell company, a subsidiary of the SSRC, in order to establish an industrial unit to help produce more accurate M-600 and Scud D missiles. The Belorussian company declined to comment on the deal.The SSRC is also working on a project with North Korea to help improve its Scud D missile capabilities. North Korean officials at the Tangun corporation have already begun researching and producing components for Scud D missiles which would make it difficult for enemy targets to calculate the missiles’ flight trajectory upon atmospheric entry, Jane’s reported, thus preventing or delaying interception by anti-missile systems, including those in Israel’s possession.

The nuclear facility in Dimona is using new technology to prevent information leaks, Walla news reports.
The technology jams internet access and camera use on cell phones, meaning workers cannot take pictures with their phones while on the job. In addition, passersby who come close to certain parts of the facility will find that they are unable to use their phones to take pictures in those spots.Phones remain able to make and receive calls.A security officer who spoke to Walla explained that the device is meant to ensure that potentially hostile third parties will not be able to hack workers’ phones. Smart phones are vulnerable to cyber attacks that can give the attacker access to personal information including photographs, the source explained.The fear of cell phone vulnerability is not unique to nuclear plant administrators; many sensitive IDF installations also have strict rules regarding cell phone use.In past years, harm has been done by workers who choose to share sensitive information. Nuclear spy Mordechai Vanunu famously leaked Israel’s nuclear secrets to the foreign press in the 1980s.More recently, former IDF soldier Anat Kam revealed over 2,000 classified documents which she illegally copied during her service. Israel’s defense minister on Tuesday decried the interim deal reached by world powers with Iran in November and rejected the linkage between Iran’s quest for a nuclear weapon and Israel’s ongoing conflict with the Palestinians.Calling the notion of regional events revolving around the axis of the Israel-Palestinian conflict “a fairy tale,” Moshe Ya’alon said that the other prevailing concept, that Arab nations will refuse to come together to combat Iran so long as the Palestinian issue remains unresolved, is equally false.“As someone who meets a few people from Arab countries, that is not the story,” he said at the Institute for National Security Studies’ annual conference in Tel Aviv. “Behind closed doors the Palestinian issue is not even raised. It’s lip service.”He acknowledged, though, that the linkage is made plain, even underscored, “in speeches made by the American administration.”The November 24 interim deal between Iran and the six world powers known as the P5+1, Ya’alon said, was a monumental error. “History will judge the interim agreement,” he said. “We contend it was a historic missed opportunity.”

Under enormous political, economic and internal pressure, the regime “crawled on all fours to speak with the Great Satan,” he said, and came away victorious.Today, Ya’alon contended, Iran, which supports terror the world over, and should be isolated internationally solely for that reason, has freed itself from global isolation and managed to entrench itself on the threshold of nuclear power. Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has given Israel 3 years to withdraw from Judea and Samaria in the event that an interim agreement is reached, according to AFP. "Those who are proposing 10 to 15 years (before a withdrawal) do not want to withdraw at all," Abbas said in an interview screened on Tuesday at the annual conference of the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) taking place in Tel Aviv."We say that in a reasonable time frame, no longer than three years, Israel can withdraw gradually," he said.His remarks came as an April deadline loomed for faltering US-backed peace talks, which have been in deadlock notably over the issue of future security arrangements.The US's security plan involves a slow transition from IDF patrols over the region to Palestinian Authority (PA) forces, with an international presence, according to reports. IDF drones would also be deployed over the area, as a means of gathering information about any terrorist activity that could potentially develop there. The Israeli government has insisted that the region is of crucial importance to Israel's future, and has been critical of plans to hand over the area to the PA. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has insisted that in the event that Israel withdrew from Judea and Samaria, as per Kerry's plans, the Jordan Valley be kept under Israeli control.Israel wants to maintain a long-term military presence in the Jordan Valley, but the Palestinians insist Israeli troops withdraw completely, making way for an international force."We have no problem with there being a third party present after or during the withdrawal, to reassure Israel and to reassure us that the process will be
completed," Abbas claimed. "We think NATO is the appropriate party to undertake this mission."
"The Palestinian borders must, in the end, be held (controlled) by Palestinians and not by the Israeli army," he added.Abbas reiterated Palestinian demands that a two-state solution be based on 1949 Armistice Lines, and that a divided Jerusalem serve as the capital for a Palestinian state. The two sides began a nine-month track of US-backed peace negotiations in July but so far there has been little visible progress, with the PA warning that after the deadline, they could take legal action in the international courts against Israel over construction in Jewish areas in Judea and Samaria.But Abbas expressed hope there would be progress before then."I hope we succeed so we don't have to resort to legal or diplomatic or political confrontation on the world stage," he claimed. "A solution will bring Israel recognition from 57 Muslim countries, a clear, straightforward and diplomatic recognition between these countries and Israel," Abbas added."I hope the Israeli people can understand what it is to be in an ocean of peace, from Mauritania to Indonesia, rather than in an island of peace as it is at the moment."He said he would happily meet Netanyahu in person, during a visit by either man to each other's parliament.In November, Netanyahu called on Abbas to come to the Knesset in a speech he gave during a visit to Israel by French President Francois Hollande."Come to the Israeli Knesset and I'll come to Ramallah," Netanyahu said. Muslim group demands apology from Harper, chief spokesman over comment

OTTAWA - A major Canadian Muslim group is demanding an apology from Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his chief spokesman for a comment it says linked the organization to a terrorist group.The National Council of Canadian Muslims has filed a notice of libel in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice that accuses Jason MacDonald of acting maliciously when he made the comment earlier this month.The council had criticized the inclusion of a controversial rabbi in Harper's delegation that went to the Middle East last week."Rather than responding to our legitimate concerns, the PMO's director of communications attacked us and attempted to smear our name by claiming NCCM had 'documented ties to a terrorist organization such as Hamas,'" Ihsaan Gardee, the council's executive director, told a news conference Tuesday."Nothing could be further from the truth. NCCM will not let the PMO's false statement stand."

The council says MacDonald's comment was a deliberate attempt to discredit the group and Harper is responsible for the words uttered by his spokesman.The libel notice is the first step in what could become a formal lawsuit.The Prime Minister's Office responded tersely: "As this matter may be the subject of litigation, we have no further comment."Further legal action is possible, said Nader Hassan, lawyer for the council.

"Whether we go through with the lawsuit is going to depend on a number of factors, namely the quality, timing and content of the public apology and retraction," he said.Gardee said MacDonald's comment was "categorically false, offensive and defamatory."The libel notice said MacDonald's statement was unwarranted."The defamatory words were stated maliciously in order to discredit and insult an organization that did nothing other than exercise its constitutional right to freedom of expression to criticize a decision made by the prime minister," it said."Mr. MacDonald simply made up that statement in an effort to discredit NCCM and deflect its criticism of Mr. Harper."The council describes itself as an independent, non-partisan, non-profit group which has worked for 14 years on human rights and civil liberties issues on behalf of Canadian Muslims.A half-dozen other rights groups, including the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and the Canadian Association of University Teachers, have offered support to the Muslim group.Farhat Rehman of the Canadian Council of Muslim Women said more than just the council was impacted by the remark.

Thirty-two people are dead or missing in the wake of the L’Isle-Verte fire; 10 bodies have been foun, but the names of just three have been made public. Little is publicly known about one, 89-year-old Louis-Philippe Roy, but about two, more can be said:

Juliette Saindon, 95, was known to staff at Résidence du Havre as someone who loved to chat.

She always had a smile on her face, said Aubin Rioux, who worked at the home for two years.

Ever since she fell and broke her hip, Saindon used a wheelchair. She needed a long stick to reach the emergency button to summon staff.Workers at the home said she loved to chat, about the weather and her activities of the day, “anything,” said Rioux.

Angéline Guichard’s son Joseph Marie Fraser will always remember his mother as a leader and dedicated worker, hardened by years spent raising 12 children on a farm on the tiny island of Île Verte.“Everything she did, she gave her 100 per cent,” said Fraser, of his 88-year-old mother.Joseph Marie said his mother spent almost her entire life on Île Verte. She spent 65 “very happy years” with her husband, and moved into Résidence du Havre six years ago following his death.She loved to play cards, said Joseph Marie, adding her greatest joy was her massive family: 12 children, about 30 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Marie-Jeanne Saindon

Marie-Jeanne Saindon was just three months shy of her 100th birthday when she died in the fire at the facility where she was “proud” to be the oldest resident.Her grandson, Claude Saindon, said she was determined to make it to the big day in April and was going to celebrate with a grand party organized by her family.“She was a determined woman, very kind and very generous,” said Saindon. “Even at 99, her memory was very sharp — I would say sharper than mine.”Marie-Jeanne, who had one son, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, had been a widow for 40 years. Born in L’Isle-Verte, she had only been living at the residence for three weeks.

Gérard and Giselle Ouellet

The couple had spent their life working the land and raising 14 children on the small island nearby for which the town is named. Gérard, 92, was reluctant to give up their home, but Giselle, 90, was happy for the break from chores.“We felt safer having them there,” said Marie-Claude Ouellet, the wife of one of their sons, Philippe Ouellet. “They had all the care they needed; the doctors were there.”As a result of a recently broken hip and her age, Giselle needed help to get in and out of bed — assistance that her husband was no longer able to provide.

Claude Fraser

It was his upbringing by the water on the island of Île Verte that inspired Claude Fraser to become a sailor, said his sister, Agnès.He worked for the Coast Guard for 37 years, which included frequent travels to the Arctic.“He had a big heart,” said Agnès. “He was a very hard worker.”Fraser married late in life, to a widow, but he had no children of his own. He moved into the residence five years ago and “he liked it. He was a person who would talk with anyone,” said Agnès.

Paul-Étienne Michaud

Paul-Étienne Michaud spent decades working the land on his farm on the outskirts of L’Isle-Verte, where he and his wife, who predeceased him by over 20 years, raised seven children. Even after he sold the farm to his son, Jean-André, he still worked outdoors almost every day, until his move to Résidence du Havre in 1997, where Jean-André said he was the very first resident.“He liked his room because it faced the road and he could see the boats on the water,” said his son. “He mainly kept to himself.”

Jacqueline Belanger

Jacqueline Belanger was a talker, said her younger brother, Raymond. They spoke on the phone at least two or three times a week.“She could talk your ear off,” he said, laughing. “I guess you could say I was her confidant.”The 90-year-old Belanger, who had three sons and two daughters, one of whom predeceased her, was born in L’Isle-Verte and married the town’s butter maker. Raymond said she had said recently that “she was ready to go,” while adding, “But it’s terrible the way she went.”

Kano (Nigeria) (AFP) - At least 45 people were killed in a suspected Boko Haram attack on a market in restive northeast Nigeria, police said on Monday, warning the death toll could rise."So far, we have 45 dead and 26 injured... but the figures could increase as our men are still in the village searching for more casualties," Borno state police commissioner Lawan Tanko told AFP.Witnesses to the attack in Kawuri, in the Konduga area of Borno state, 37 kilometres (23 miles) southeast of Maiduguri, earlier said that 15 people had been killed and 20 others wounded.One witness, Isa Ibrahim, said gunmen stormed the town on four-wheel-drive vehicles, pretending to be traders who had come to do business in the market."Unknown to the people, the gunmen had planted improvised explosive devices at strategic areas in the town before carrying out the attack on residents," he added.Several houses and vehicles were set on fire before the gunmen fled, he said.

China’s new leader, Xi Jinping, has not kept his promises and the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association and the Ministry of Religious Affairs are trying to turn bishops and faithful into “slaves”.This is according to Cardinal Joseph Zen, the Bishop Emeritus of Hong Kong who, in an interview with missionary news agency AsiaNews, said that Beijing was carrying on its “work of destruction” against the local Catholic Church. 
“With the power position they have acquired in dealing with religions, they are destroying not only the religions but also the good name of our nation,” the cardinal said. “The only purpose of their work seems to be "enslaving" our Church (unfortunately with much success) by forcing our bishops and priests to betray their conscience, their faith.”“It seems undeniable that [Xi Jinping] has shown a certain determination in reforming his party by fighting courageously the corruption and setting up a regime of austerity and frugality for his communist comrades.” Cardinal Zen added that “clarity of position seems to be a characteristic feature of our Jesuit Pope … Somebody said that Pope Francis likes tango, but it takes two to tango. The spokesman of the Catholic bishops of Egypt has issued a statement in light of the suicide bombings against Cairo’s police, saying people are fed up and want peace

Rafic Greiche, said in a statement to Catholic news agency Fides. In a telephone call from Cairo, the spokesman said "television continues to send images of demonstrations against the Muslim Brotherhood, considered responsible for acts of terrorism. People are fed up", from Cairo, where today a series of bomb attacks have struck the police headquarters in the Egyptian capital, a police station in Giza, and a police patrol.“The most serious attack, against the police headquarters, was committed by a suicide bomber in a car filled with explosives. The explosion was so violent that it seriously damaged the Islamic art museum. A total of 5 people have died and hundreds have been injured.”"There are massive demonstrations like those seen in Tahrir Square, which is closed in anticipation of the third anniversary of the fall of Mubarak, tomorrow January 25,” the priest said. "I am convinced that the violence committed by those who want to throw Egypt into chaos, will have an impact against its authors, because the Egyptians want peace,” Fr. Greiche concluded.”

Central African Republic: Missionaries hide out in the forest following brutal rebel attack

Ten or so Seleka rebels have attacked the local Catholic mission, leaving three dead. Missionaries and civilians have fled after a series of raids and thefts, leaving the city of Bocaranga deserted

Davide Demichelis Rome “There were about ten of them. They fired shots everywhere: in the streets, at windows, at the people they saw feeling.” Denis Ngoto’s voice is still trembling from shock. The attack took place two days ago but he stayed in the forest, where he had gone to seek refuge, five kilometres away from Bocaranga, in the north of the Central African Republic. Denis is a catechist. He was at the mission on Tuesday when the Seleka rebels turned up. Priests, nuns, catechists, everyone has fled.Denis has no idea where everyone else is. Bocaranga was home to about 16 thousand people before the war, now it is practically a desert town.
He may be the only one who still has a cell phone. His voice comes and goes and the signal’s bad but he still manages to describe the dramatic events which took place: “They entered the mission. Fr. Robert came out and tried to negotiate with them; he asked them to leave but they wouldn’t listen to him or to brother Nestor who went out to support him.” The rebels were fleeing from the Central African Republic, Bocaranga is just a few kilometres from the border with Chad. They wanted to frighten people and above all to steal whatever they could. They stole about ten motorbikes, a car, computers, telephones, cameras, money and anything else they could find.“When he saw there was nothing he could do to stop them, Fr. Robert begged them at least not to harm anyone.” Denis’ voice grew weak as he recounted these moments which seemed to last an eternity: “But when they saw a man trying to escape they shot him in cold blood. His body must still be lying there. Then they killed another man and a woman. Thankfully they didn’t harm the other women who were in the vicinity; many of them were holding their children in their arms.”“They were on a shooting spree,” said the Superior of the Capuchin Friars in the Central African Republic, Fr. Serge Mbremandji: “It was terrible: even brother Nestor was wounded on his arm. We told all religious to take all necessary precautions.” In Bocaranga there are fears Seleka will strike again, as another group of militants were seen on the road that leads to Chad. “They were from Chad, I heard them speaking in Arabic,” Denis recalled. “But there were also some Central Africans among them. I heard them speaking in French and in our local language, Sango.”

The Central African Republic’s National Transitional Council elected its new president - Catherine Samba-Phanza – the day before the attack.  The country’s first ever female leader called on all militia to let down their weapons and asked the international community to intervene to restore peace. A day later, from the headquarters of the Community of San’Egidio in Rome and as Seleka rebels launched their attack on Bocaranga, a delegation of Central Africans called for joint efforts to reach a new Republican Pact. A delegation from the Community of Sant’Egidio, will go to Bangui in the next few days to meet the new President. But today the Archbishop and the Imam of Bangui, Dieudonné Nzapalainga and Oumar Kobine Layama issued a statement from Paris saying that while the situation is relatively under control in Bangui, the rest of the country is still at the mercy of Seleka and Anti-Balaka rebels.Indeed, Denis, the missionaries as well as a large portion of Bocaranga’s population are still stuck there, hiding in the forest.
