OBAMA SHOULD STICK CLOSER TO ISRAEL-FORMER CIA CHIEF

THANK YOU KING JESUS FOR PROTECTING ISRAEL AFTER THIS HEADLINE.THERES NO OTHER WAY IT CAN BE EXPLAINED BUT GODS PROTECTION ON ISRAEL TO KEEP HIS PROMISE.

IDF Intel Chief: 200,000 Missiles Aimed at Israel-There are some 200,000 missiles and rockets aimed at Israel, a top IDF official said Thursday - and no part of the country is safe anymore By David Lev First Publish: 2/2/2012, 10:53 AM

IDF Intelligence head Aviv Kochavi gave a chilling presentation Thursday morning at the Herzliya Conference on Israeli policy, telling listeners that Israel's enemies had 200,000 rockets and missiles pointed at the country, and could reach all parts of Israel – even the ostensibly safe center of Tel Aviv and its suburbs. Most of the missiles have a range of about 40 kilometers – the range of Qassam and most Katyusha rockets – but thousands of missiles have ranges of hundreds of kilometers, making every location in Israel within their reach. Not only that – but the missiles are more lethal now than ever before. The warheads on these missiles contain hundreds of kilograms of explosives, not dozens, as in the past. And their firing precision and ability to hit specific targets is also greater, Kochavi said. The rockets are largely located in Lebanon and Syria, with a smaller amount in Gaza – and in Iran, as well, which has thousands of missiles that could reach Israel.Every tenth house in Lebanon is now a weapons depot, Kochavi said.Besides conventional weapons, Israel is also facing a nuclear threat. According to Kochavi, Israel has lost the battle to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons; Tehran already has enough uranium for four atomic bombs, with over 100 kilos enriched to a level of 20% - more than enough for the one bomb Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said he would need to rid the world of the Zionist entity.

Whether or not Iran actually builds these bombs is not a question of technical capability, Kochavi said, but a question of political will. The ability to build the bombs is there, and whether or not they will actually be assembled is a decision that top Iranian officials, especially Supreme Leader Ali Khameini, has yet to make. From the moment the order is given, it will take about a year to assemble the bombs, Kochavi said.Developing them into warheads will take a little longer. He added that the sanctions against Iran have not yet persuaded Tehran to change its nuclear development policy one way or the other, but that could change if the government feels it is losing control. Still, sanctions are preferable to the other alternatives, at least at this time, he said. Only concerted international effort can persuade Tehran to halt their pursuit of the project,he added.Despite the fact that so far it appears that Islamists have been the big winners of the Arab Spring, it is not they that led the revolutions in Arab world, but the desperation of youths and young adults who face a future of unemployment and hopelessness. If the new regimes do not work quickly to raise hope for the masses, he said, the current unrest could continue for many years. However, one aspect of the weakening of traditional Arab dictatorships in the region has negatively affected Israel; with less authority has come more porous borders, and Iran has been taking advantage of this fact to move more weapons into neighboring Arab countries. As a result, more terror attacks with Iran's backing can be expected. Kochavi said that the attack last August on the southern Negev was orchestrated by Iran, and thanks to the large amount of weapons in the region – with the Middle East now the world's largest weapons warehouse - similar attacks in the future are all but inevitable.

DOCTOR DOCTORIAN FROM ANGEL OF GOD
then the angel said, Financial crisis will come to Asia. I will shake the world.

JAMES 5:1-3
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

REVELATION 18:10,17,19
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

EZEKIEL 7:19
19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

REVELATION 13:16-18

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.(6-6-6) A NUMBER SYSTEM

Deja vu as Russia gas cuts hit eight more EU countries Today FEB 3,12 @ 09:26 By Andrew Rettman

BRUSSELS - Eight EU countries have joined Italy in noting a sharp drop in Russian gas supplies, in events recalling the massive 2009 crunch.Gazprom deliveries to Austria and Slovakia reportedly fell by 30 percent on Thursday (2 February). Shipments to Poland fell 7 percent and Czech distributor RWE Transgaz said deliveries are several percent lower than normal. The European Commission on Friday added that Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary and Romania have also been affected. The cuts began in Italy on Tuesday. Earlier this week it reported a 10 percent drop, but the figure hit 20 percent on Thursday.Member states created special reserves after the 2009 gas crunch - which cost EU firms hundreds of millions of euros and which saw blackouts in some former Communist EU countries in the middle of a harsh winter.

But there are signs the 2012 crunch could also get nasty.Polish distributor PGNiG had already begun lowering supplies to three big industrial clients - including the country's main petrol refinery PKN Orlen - before the Russian problem. It cited high demand due to the cold snap, prompting the government to tap emergency stocks.Slovak distributor SPP told people not to worry because if need be it can get help from Austria and the Czech Republic - themselves victims of cuts. The parallels between 2012 and 2009 on Thursday multiplied when Gazprom accused Ukraine of stealing EU-bound transit gas.Gazprom chairman Alexander Medvedev told Interfax: While sitting on transit pipelines, Ukraine is today taking gas at the level of 60 billion cubic metres a year, which goes far beyond the volumes covered by [our] contracts.
Ukrainian distributor Naftogaz said in a statement: The volume of gas transit through Ukraine's territory and the off-take of imported gas are at levels set by the contract with Gazprom.Moscow and Kiev - also as in 2009 - are currently engaged in a highly political gas price dispute.Meanwhile, question marks hang over Gazprom's line on Ukraine.Polish distributor PGNiG said the drop came on the Russia-Belarus-Poland pipeline, not on the Russia-Ukraine-Poland network. And two sources inside Gazprom told press the company is struggling with internal problems. The gas has to be transported over very long distances, and it can take time to get the gas through to the consumer, one unnamed contact told Dow Jones. Some requests are higher than we can put in the pipe ... requests for gas have been higher for more than a week, the second source told Reuters.

Berlin digs in heels on extra €15bn for Greece
Today FEB 3,12 09:26 By Valentina Pop

BRUSSELS - Germany has ruled out any extra contribution from national governments or the European Central Bank (ECB) to the second Greek bail-out - as requested by the Greek government. Meanwhile, sources close to the negotiations speak of a €15bn funding gap.Greece needs a debt restructuring of 50 percent on the bonds held by private investors. It does not need any supplementary contributions from the public sector,German finance minister Wolfgang Schauble said Thursday on N-TV, a German news channel.Negotiations on the second Greek bail-out, worth €130 billion, are stuck as private lenders say they will take losses of up to 75 percent on their Greek bonds only if the ECB or national governments also step up their contributions.

According to an EU official quoted by Associated Press, international debt inspectors have discovered a funding gap of €15 billion, which could be filled by more bail-out loans from the eurozone governments or by eurozone central banks or publicly owned banks taking a loss on their Greek bonds. The ECB and national central banks are estimated to hold €50-55 billion in Greek debt.Back in Athens, finance minister Evangelor Venizelos on Thursday said that the ECB must take part in the debt restructuring. In parallel with negotiations with private creditors, there must be negotiations for the official sector involvement. This means that the ECB must be mobilized, and we must resolve issues pertaining to national central banks,he told socialist party lawmakers, for the first time publicly siding with commercial banks which have been asking for a long time for the ECB to share the burden. The initial terms of the debt swap Germany still insists on were agreed in October last year and were to see private bondholders voluntarily agree on losing 50 percent of their returns on Greek bonds, in order for Athens to slash its debt burden by €100 billion, or 120 percent of GDP.But the economic crisis both in and outside the country, as well as a lag in promised reforms, have increased Athens' financing needs, with EU finance commissioner Olli Rehn admitting in the past weeks that the public sector would have to step up its contribution.

Josef Ackerman - the head of Germany's finance giant Deutsche Bank and chairman of the International Institute of Finance (IIF) which groups the commercial banks, hedge funds and other private lenders negotiating the debt swap with the Greek government - said he was confident a deal could be reached within weeks or even days.
Everybody has to contribute a little bit, not just the private sector, he told the BBC. He said the IIF is making a very attractive offer to Greece of a net percent value loss of 70 plus percent. The €-8million-a-year-earning banker noted that income inequalities are a ticking social bomb in Europe and said that bankers had a social responsibility - describing the latest offer to Greece as philanthropic.Despite the IMF itself recognising that further austerity will aggravate the social cost, the Greek government still has to adopt further wage and pension cuts as part of the deal.On Friday, its technocrat premier Lucas Papademos was set to rally reluctant political leaders from the socialist, conservative and far-right camps behind the unpopular measures. They've put a gun to our head and said they will shoot us, George Karatzaferis, the head of the far-right Laos party told Flash radio, referring to the country's lenders.Athens is under pressure to wrap up the talks before Monday, when eurozone finance ministers are to meet in Brussels to approve the second bail-out deal.Failure to agree will trigger a disorderly default mid-March when Greece has to repay €14.5 billion worth of bonds - an event that with unpredictable consequnces for the future of the single currency.Investors are already punishing Portugal with high borrowing costs on its long-term bonds - a signal that it is the next country in line according to Ackermann.

EU official predicts major anti-Putin rally
02.02.12 @ 18:39 By Andrew Rettman

BRUSSELS - EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton has predicted there will be a big turnout at a pro-democracy rally in Moscow on Saturday (4 February).Reading to MEPs from a written statement at the tail-end of a lengthy Q-and-A session in Brussels on Wednesday evening, she said: The protests that started in December are set to continue. The movement has grown and we can expect a large mobilisation this Saturday. In remarks likely to encourage protesters, she added: There is a rising group of people calling for real participation, for more decisive measures to rein in corruption and impunity, and to give more breathing space to democratic processes. And they are ready to express their opinion. Peacefully. She castigated Prime Minister Putin for saying he will swap jobs with the president, with the election due on 4 March. She also told Putin to let an opposition candidate - Grigory Yavlinsky - run in upcoming elections. In unscripted comments, she later added that her envoys report a change in the atmosphere in Russia and that things are beginning to change. Most MEPs from the mainstream political groups backed Ashton's line.German left-winger Knut Fleckenstein, who heads the parliament's Russia delegation, said: We need to express solidarity for those who in recent days and months have joined the protests.

But for her part, Monika Flasikova Benova, a left-wing MEP from Slovakia, said the EU should put its own house in order on increasingly authoritarian countries, such as Hungary, before finger-wagging at Russia. She was quickly pulled up by Polish centre-right deputy Marek Migalksi, who said: Are you seriously making a comparison between these two countries [Hungary and Russia]? Facebook petitions indicate that 25,000-or-so people plan to brave winter weather to go to the weekend rally in Moscow. Thousands more are expected at pro-Putin counter-events.If the numbers live up to expectations, it will be the third major demonstration since international monitors last December said parliamentary elections were rigged. The EU should clearly say that the elections were not free and fair ... People in Russia need to hear this. Then it will be up to us to take the next step,Russian opposition leader Mikhail Kasyanov told EUobserver in a recent interview.

EU funds spent on environmentally harmful projects
02.02.12 @ 18:29 By Valentina Pop

BRUSSELS - Waste incinerators instead of recycling, highways running through nature parks, airports in protected areas - 33 projects in central and eastern Europe funded with €16 billion out of the EU's regional policy coffers are environmentally harmful, says a study published on Thursday (2 February) by Friends of the Earth Europe and Bankwatch, a coalition of environmental NGOs.These 33 projects are economically dubious, socially harmful and in breach of environmental law, Markus Trilling from Friends of the Earth Europe said during a press briefing. He noted that while EU leaders are in the hot phase of negotiating the next EU budget for 2014-2020, current spending practices need to be altered if Europe is serious about its climate change and environmental targets.Cohesion policy - the EU term for the €347 billion allocated in 2007 to 2013 mainly to Europe's former Communist countries to revamp schools, roads and other infrastructure - has to follow broad EU outlines for sustainable or environmental-friendly targets. But it is ultimately up to national governments to approve the individual projects. What we have found is that they are funding unsustainable, unmodern investments. Decision makers have not learnt from the past experience of Spain, Portugal, Greece - once the biggest recipients of structural funds - where money was used to fuel housing bubbles and to construct highways instead of a more balanced approach, such as more public transportation, railways, investments in energy efficiency,Trilling said.

In Bulgaria, the EU's poorest member, waste management is still far away from any recycling practices seen in the western countries, said Genady Kondarev from Bankwatch.A project worth €184 million pending EU approval aims at incinerating all waste collected in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, which is currently being transported and piled up in large landfills outside the city. Almost 100 percent of the waste is landfilled. Only a marginal 1.9-2.5 percent is being recycled, mainly by Roma going through the garbage and selling some of the recycled materials, Kondarev said.If the project is approved, the timid government effort to get people to sort rubbish will be even less effective, he argued. Already people are very sceptical about the different coloured bins, since they see that they all go in the same garbage vans. With an incinerator, there will be no incentives for recycling, he explained.Other projects, such as the Salgotarjan biomass power plant in Hungary, may look environmentally friendly, but risks creating a perverse effect.Because of its reliance on waste wood from forestry and chopped logs, logging would increase pressure on surrounding forests, where not enough wood is produced annually to fuel a power plant with even 20 percent less capacity. Also the plant would be constructed in a populated area, so air pollution and low-particulate dust is of major concern, the study says.

IMF worried by social cost of Greek austerity
02.02.12 @ 09:27 By Valentina Pop

BRUSSELS - Budget cuts alone will not save the Greek economy as the country is reaching the limit of what society can endure, the International Monetary Fund's point-man for Athens has said, in a departure from the institution's traditionally more technocratic communiques. We will have to slow down a little as far as fiscal adjustment is concerned and move faster - much faster - with the reforms needed to modernise the economy,Poul Thomsen, a Danish IMF official overseeing the Greek austerity programme told Greek daily Kathimerini on Wednesday (1 February). He spoke of the limitations of political support and social tolerance toward the deficit-cutting measures - Greece saw violent street clashes and several days of general strikes in protest at cost-cutting last year.Thomsen also called for political recognition of the painful reforms that Greece has already undertaken.I share the frustration of many Greek officials that much of the criticism from abroad overlooks the fact that Greece has done a lot, at a great cost to the population. While much still needs to be done, Greece has already come quite a long way. Failing to recognise this will not help mobilise support for the programme,he said.

In this regard, I think that officials - myself included - need perhaps to be more sensitive to ensuring that we send a balanced signal when we say that the programme is off-track.His words come just days after EU leaders scolded the Greek premier for not keeping to an agreed reform programme, including lowering labour cost and privatising the remaining state assets.Germany has been the loudest critic. Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke of her frustration with Athens even as Berlin circulated a controversial idea to have an EU commissioner put in charge of Greece with power over all its spending decisions. On the difficult talks between the Greek government and the troika - comprising of the IMF, the EU commission and the European Central Bank (ECB) - Thomsen said a deal on the second bail-out, worth €130 billion, will be completed very soon, it's a matter of days.According to the Imerisia newspaper, Athens is willing to sign up to another €4.4 billion worth of spending cuts this year to secure the deal. The cuts - amounting to about 2 percent of gross domestic product - will be in defence, health-care and pharmaceutical spending.Greece's first bail-out from May 2010, amounting to €110 billion, relied on tax hikes and cuts in wages and pensions, reducing the country's deficit from €24.7 billion to €5 billion in just two years. But the country's soaring borrowing costs have made its debt unsustainable.A parallel, unprecedented deal with private lenders is being sought to slash at least 50 percent of the interest creditors would cash in on some €200 billion worth of Greek bonds - a precondition for the second IMF-EU-ECB bail-out.Negotiations on the deal have become drawn out over recent weeks. One of the sticking points concerns whether the ECB and governments should also incur losses alongside the private sector.

U.S. Worries Israel is about to Strike Iran – Washington Post-Post's Ignatius: Netanyahu doesn’t want to leave the fate of Israel dependent on American action. By Gil Ronen First Publish: 2/2/2012, 10:14 PM

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta believes there is a strong likelihood that Israel will strike Iran in April, May or June, according to the Washington Post's David Ignatius.Israel believes that after this time, Iran will have entered a zone of immunity that will enable it to build a nuclear bomb at its leisure, Ignatius wrote. Defense Minister Ehud Barak used the same words Thursday in his speech at the Herzliya Conference.Very soon, the Israelis fear, the Iranians will have stored enough enriched uranium in deep underground facilities to make a weapon — and only the United States could then stop them militarily, explained Ignatius. The U.S., however, does not intend to hit Iran until it has intelligence that Iran is actually building a bomb, and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu doesn’t want to leave the fate of Israel dependent on American action...When Barak asked last month to postpone a planned U.S.-Israel military exercise, he may have been signaling that an Israeli attack is imminent, the senior journalist wrote. Barak apologized that Israel couldn’t devote the resources to the annual exercise this spring.President Obama and Panetta cautioned Israel against an attack, because they believe it would derail increasingly successful international economic sanctions against Iran.

The White House hasn’t yet decided precisely how to react to an Israeli attack on Iran. The U.S. appears to favor staying out of the conflict unless Iran hits American assets, which would trigger a strong U.S. response. But administration officials caution that Tehran shouldn’t misunderstand: The United States has a 60-year commitment to Israeli security, and if Israel’s population centers were hit, the United States could feel obligated to come to Israel’s defense.Ignatius quotes an Israeli official who reportedly told the U.S.: You stay to the side, and let us do it.The pundit mentions a short-war scenario that assumes five days or so of limited Israeli strikes, followed by a U.N.-brokered cease-fire. This, too, jibes with comments made yesterday by Israeli Chief of Staff Lt. Col. Benny Gantz.U.S. officials don’t think that Netanyahu has made a final decision to attack, says Ignatius, but senior Americans doubt that the Israelis are bluffing.

IDF Retaliates for Qassam Attacks, Strikes Targets in Gaza-IAF aircraft strike six terror targets in Gaza, in response to Qassam rocket attacks on southern Israel. Direct hits confirmied.By Elad Benari First Publish: 2/3/2012, 4:12 AM

The IDF responded on Thursday night to a barrage of Qassam rockets fired at Israel by attacking terror targets in Gaza.According to a statement issued by the IDF Spokesperson's Unit, IAF aircraft struck two weapons storage facilities in northern Gaza, three smuggling tunnels in southern Gaza and a weapons manufacturing site in central Gaza. The statement added that the aircraft scored direct hits on the targets and that in some cases, several secondary explosions were detected. All Israeli aircraft safely returned to their base. The attacks come after terrorists from Gaza launched at least seven Qassam rockets at Israel's southern communities on Wednesday evening. All of the rockets exploded in open fields in the western Negev. No property damage or physical injuries were reported.Regional councils in southern Israel later said that some of the rockets had exploded in no man’s land - an area not covered by the Iron Dome missile defense system. The residents are exposed to continuous fire throughout the year and the state does not provide them with protection, the heads of the councils said. We demand that the government protect no man’s land.Meanwhile on Thursday, IDF Intelligence head Aviv Kochavi told attendees of the Herzliya Conference on Israeli policy that Israel's enemies had 200,000 rockets and missiles pointed at the country, and could reach all parts of Israel – even the ostensibly safe center of Tel Aviv and its suburbs.Kochavi said most of the missiles have a range of about 40 kilometers, but thousands of missiles have ranges of hundreds of kilometers, making every location in Israel within their reach.

Former CIA Chief: Obama Should Learn to Stick Closer to Israel-Former CIA director R. James Woolsey: Obama tried to make nice with Iran and Syria. It didn't work. By Elad Benari & Yoni Kempinski First Publish: 2/3/2012, 1:15 AM

Former CIA director R. James Woolsey spoke to Arutz Sheva on Thursday, on the sidelines of the 12th Annual Herzliya Conference.

Addressing the security situation in the Middle East in the wake of the Arab Spring, Woolsey said revolutions are usually divided into three phases: The first phase is very enthusiastic, the second phase is when the liberals take over and look like they’re going to move things well, and the third part is what he called the non-attractive part.We can hope that a number of these Arab revolutions veer off before they get to a most unattractive phase three,he said. There’s been a lot of progress away from dictatorship and toward people being able to rule themselves, but it’s far from perfect and there is a lot of uncertainty. We don’t know where these Arab revolutions – really, any of them – are going.Woolsey spoke about the relations between Israel and the United States, and differentiated between the tension with the Obama Administration and the general relationship between the two countries.I think there’s still some tension with the Obama Administration. I don’t think there’s fundamental tension between Israel and the United States,he said, adding that the Obama Administration thought that making nice with the Iranians and the Syrians would work, but that did not work.

It has not worked out well, and I hope that the Obama Administration is learning that one wants to stick closer to one’s friends than to kowtow to one’s enemies, he said.Woolsey, who has previously called for the release of Jonathan Pollard from prison, repeated that position in the interview. He noted that Pollard’s sentencing judge laid down three criteria for parole: That Pollard express contrition, that he help the United States understand exactly what was taken and the implications, and that he agree to forego any proceeds from anything written or televised about what he did. That is, if he writes a book about his experiences, the money would go charity.Woolsey said that he knows that the first two conditions have been met by Pollard but added that he does not know whether the third one has been met. Nevertheless, he said, He’s now been in prison well over 20 years, well over the time any spy from any friendly country has spent in American prisons, and he didn’t get anyone killed. From my point of view,Woolsey added,if he would just satisfy that third requirement it ought to be possible for either parole or some kind of executive clemency to set him free.

24 He shall enter peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers' fathers; he shall scatter among them the prey, and spoil, and riches: yea, and he shall forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time.

14 Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.
15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.
19 From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.

Abbas: Willing to Resume Negotiations, But...PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: I'm willing to resume peace negotiations...but only if Israel makes an encouraging offer.By Elad Benari First Publish: 2/2/2012, 12:16 AM

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday said that he would be willing to resume negotiations with Israel, but conditioned it on Israel submitting an encouraging and helpful proposal that can be built upon. The Hebrew-language Ma’ariv newspaper reported that Abbas made the comments at a press conference with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, after the two met in Ramallah.During the press conference Abbas stressed that as far as he is concerned, the solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict is establishing a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders [1949 armistice lines –ed.] and ending Israeli presence in occupied lands, including the Jordan Valley.Abbas added that the PA has a number of alternatives for negotiations, which he said he will discuss with the foreign ministers of the Arab League during their meeting on Saturday.Ban, who began his remarks in Arabic, praised Abbas for his state-building efforts. Referring to the peace process, Ban said it was time to establish a viable Palestinians state.

I continue to believe that the two-state solution is achievable through negotiations, Ban was quoted by Ma’ariv as having said. He later met with the PA’s Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.Earlier on Wednesday, Ban met with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and asked Israel to reinstate the freeze on all construction in Jewish communities in the region, saying at a news conference it was not helpful to the peace process. But Netanyahu noted out that any discussion about a freeze on construction -- or any other action taken by Israel to move the peace process forward -- should come in context of the process itself, rather than as a precondition. This issue is part of the negotiations, he told Ban.It can't be a precondition.Netanyahu added pointedly that settlements are not the crux of the conflict, but rather, one of its outcomes. The conflict started 50 years before there were settlements.

QUOTES

Every child has the right to be nurtured and the right to be safe. Child pornography is the sexual abuse of children. Every image of child pornography represents a child victim. Every trading or transmission of that image represents a re-victimization of that child.- Scott TOD - Acting Commissioner, Ontario Provincial Police

Turning the spotlight on child sexual exploitation on the Internet - helps us help children, teens, and parents educate themselves to ensure their Internet experience - through games or social networking sites - can be as rewarding as they want it to be…and as safe as it needs to be. Because every child matters…everywhere.- Inspector Scott Naylor, Manager -- OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit.

Google to allow censorship of Blogger content
By Brendan Sasso - 02/01/12 03:21 PM ET

Google quietly revealed earlier this month it will allow censorship in some countries of content on its Blogger service. The move came shortly before Twitter announced it will allow foreign governments to censor specific Tweets. On Jan. 9, Google said that users in some countries accessing the Blogger platform will be redirected to a country-specific Web addresses. For example, if you're in Australia and viewing [blogname].blogspot.com, you might be redirected [blogname].blogspot.com.au,Google explained. The change will allow Google to comply with censorship requests on a per country basis.Migrating to localized domains will allow us to continue promoting free expression and responsible publishing while providing greater flexibility in complying with valid removal requests pursuant to local law,Google wrote. The censored content will still be accessible from other countries. The policy change went mostly unnoticed until TechDows and Wired reported on it Tuesday.

Mideast Soccer Egypt ClashesView full sizeThis image made from Egypt TV shows fans and a fire at a soccer stadium in Port Said, Egypt, Wednesday, Feb.1, 2012. At least 40 Egyptians were killed Wednesday in violence following a soccer match in Port Said, when fans flooded the field seconds after the match against a rival team was over, Egypt's Health ministry said. It was one of the worst incidents of sports violence in Egypt in decades. A security official and a medic said fans of the home team, Al-Masry, swarmed the field after a rare 3-1 win against Al-Ahly, Egypt's top team. Some fans of the home team were seen to throw stones, fireworks, and bottles at other fans and injured some players. (AP/Egypt TV)The National Post reports more than 70 people were killed when fans rushed a soccer field in Egypt's Port Said following a match between rival competitors. The report says doctors in four hospitals told Agence France-Presse that the death toll had reached 73, many of the victims suffering from stab wounds. State TV said 1,000 were injured. The report calls it one of the worst incidents of sports violence in decades. The melee started when fans of the home team, Al-Masry, stormed the field after they defeated Al-Ahly. Stones, fireworks, bottles and other objects were thrown injuring fans, players and security officers.Al Jazeera reports that Hesham Sheiha, deputy health minister, says that most of the injuries were caused by concussion and deep cuts.

That report also says the two teams have a history of bad blood, and fights have erupted in recent years between the fan bases. The Telegraph reports that Ahli player Mohamed Abo Treika described the violence as war as he saw people dying in front of him and called for the premier league to be cancelled. This is not football. This is a war and people are dying in front of us. There is no movement and no security and no ambulances,Abo Treika told the Ahli television channel. I call for the premier league to be cancelled. This is horrible situation and today can never be forgotten.
NPR suggests that, given the location, there will be considerable speculation on what role authorities played in letting things get out of control.

Full Body Scanners At Super Bowl 2012-First time devices linked with cancer risk used for public sports event Paul Joseph Watson Infowars.com Thursday, February 2, 2012

Fans attending the 2012 Super Bowl on Sunday will face a new level of security in addition to pat downs before they are allowed to enter the Lucas Oil Stadium – full body x-ray scanners.According to WPRI.com News reporter Matt Touchette, despite a congressional demand for an investigation into the machines following health concerns, the scanners will be part of the security set up in Indianapolis this weekend, marking the first time that the controversial devices have been used for a public sporting event.I was out for a stroll with the intention of snapping some photos for our blog when my travels took me to Lucas Oil Stadium of all places, writes Touchette. It was there that I stumbled upon a temporary Patriots street sign put in place close to the site of Super Bowl XLVI (appropriately). I then found myself walking into the side gates of the stadium, through intense security which included full body scanners and then down the tunnel onto the field.Although Super Bowl authorities and Homeland Security have announced that pat downs and bag searches will be part of security procedures before the game, they have failed to properly inform the public that x-ray body scanners, linked with cancer risks by numerous prestigious health bodies, will also be in use.Hailing the most technologically protected Super Bowl, Frank Straub, Indianapolis’ director of public safety, said that X-ray machines would be used throughout the stadium, but didn’t specify whether this referred to devices that scanned bags or people.Senator Susan Collins, ranking Republican on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, yesterday introduced a bill that would require an independent study of backscatter x-ray scanners, following the TSA’s about-face on a decision to test the machines. The federal agency also backtracked on a promise to test TSA workers themselves for radiation exposure last month.

Numerous studies conducted by prestigious universities and health authorities, including Johns Hopkins, Columbia University, the University of California, and the Inter-Agency Committee on Radiation Safety, have warned that the x-ray scanners will lead to an increase in cancers.Johns Hopkins’ biophysics expert Dr Michael Love warned that, statistically someone is going to get skin cancer from these X-rays, after conducting a study of the naked body scanners. The Lucas Oil Stadium will be surrounded by a security perimeter that fans will have to clear before they even get to the stadium itself. There will be a security perimeter around the stadium through which all fans must pass before entering the gate, reports Yahoo Sports, adding that fans should not feel self-conscious about getting patted down because this is the world in which we live now.As well as pat downs, bag searches and full body scans, fans are again being encouraged to text in reports of suspicious activity to Homeland Security officials.Trucks making deliveries to the stadium will also be forced to pass through a vehicle x-ray scanner, technology that is now being introduced at US border checkpoints and on regular highways with little regard for the health risks involved.

Last year, the NFL announced its new policy would be to conduct pat downs of all people entering stadiums nationwide, a measure required as a result of NFL’s partnership with the Department of Homeland Security.Homeland Security is also developing technology to be used at security events which purports to monitor malintent on behalf of an individual who passes through a checkpoint. The promotional video for the program explains how Future Attribute Screening Technology (FAST) checkpoints will conduct physiological and behavioral tests in order to weed out suspected terrorists and criminals. The clip shows individuals who attend security events being led into trailers before they are interrogated as to whether they are terrorists while lie detector-style computer programs analyze their physiological responses.Reddit Link: http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/p7p68/full_body_scanners_at_super_bowl_2012/

EU blocks German take-over of US stock exchange
Today FEB 1,12 @ 19:56 By Valentina Pop

BRUSSELS - The European Commission has blocked a merger between Deutsche Boerse and the New York Stock Exchange, the two largest players in trading of derivatives - a financial product said to have helped cause the 2008 financial crisis. The merger would have led to the worsening of conditions for companies trying to access financial instruments and would have harmed the European economy as a whole ... In the end, we had no alternative but to prohibit the merger,EU anti-trust commissioner Joaquin Almunia told press in Brussels on Wednesday (1 February). The decision came as a surprise after EU single market commissioner Michel Barnier earlier voiced reservations on blocking the deal. But Almunia said it was taken by the full college of 27 commissioners without a vote.Derivatives are complex financial products which bet on the performance of underlying loans, mortgages or other financial transactions. Lack of regulation and transparency in the sector is widely seen as a cause of the financial crisis three years ago.Almunia explained the two stock exchange operators - Eurex-DB and Liffe-NYSE - are the biggest competitors on the market, covering over 90 percent of trading in derivatives of European underlyings. The German company would have effectively taken over the New York-based one, as it would have held 60 percent of the new company after the merger.

The main concession the commission had asked for was for the companies to sell either Deutsche Boerse's Eurex or NYSE Euronext's Liffe. But the companies refused either option. For its part, the German firm reacted furiously to Almunia's annuoncement. This is a dark day for Europe and its future competitiveness on global financial markets ... The EU Commission's decision is totally out of touch with reality and is based on a narrow definition of the markets which does not take into account the global nature of the competition on the derivatives markets,Deutsche Boerse said in a statement. But its employees voiced relief because the merger was likely to cause redundancies in Frankfurt. The head of the Deutsche Boerse employee council, Irmgard Busch, told Spiegel magazine she was happy that this mega-project failed. The story is not over yet, with Deutsche Boerse expected to shortly make a bid for the London stock exchange. We'll see more of this in the coming years. It's a scale business - derivatives are a global market - so if you have big platforms, you increase the volume, reduce costs and make a profit,a market contact told this website.

Derivatives law stuck

Meanwhile, a long-awaited EU law - obliging all derivatives trades to be checked by clearing houses and registered in data bases under national and EU supervision - has hit an impasse. The bill is stuck on a single issue - the mediation powers of the European Markets and Securities Authority (Esma), a newly created EU body based in Paris.EU finance ministers last week agreed that Esma can intervene in disputes on the registration and authorisation of clearing houses when a two thirds majority of national regulators ask for it. MEPs say this makes no sense, because a two-third majority is anyway needed to approve or reject any decision. If they can't agree to it anyway, then why do they have to reach the same majority to ask for mediation? It should be just one country asking for mediation,a parliamentary source told this website. The Danish EU presidency is seeking a compromise deal in the coming week.It is unlikely that Britain will agree to the MEP's request however, as it has already made concessions. The UK moved from from a three-quarter to a two-third majority on mediation and accepted that Esma's decisions should be binding.

26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

GENESIS 7:6-12
6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
GOD PROMISED BY A RAINBOW-THE EARTH WOULD NEVER BE DESTROYED TOTALLY WITH A FLOOD AGAIN.BUT FLOODIING IS A SIGN OF JUDGEMENT.

Ukraine says death toll from cold weather at 43
Associated PressAssociated Press – FEB 1,12

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian officials say the death toll from a severe cold spell that has hit Eastern Europe has risen to 43 people, most of them homeless. The Emergency Situations Ministry said Wednesday that 28 people were found dead on the streets, eight died in hospitals and seven in their homes. Over 720 others were hospitalized with hypothermia and frostbite.Temperatures dropped to minus 30 C (minus 22 F) in some regions, prompting authorities to close schools and nurseries. The cold spell also caused power outages and blocked traffic.Authorities have deployed over 1,730 heating shelters across the country where the homeless people can get warm and eat.

3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands,( ARABS) and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6 And I will send a fire on Magog,(NUCLEAR BOMB) and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
8 Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken.

JOEL 2:3,20,30-31
3 A fire(NUCLEAR BOMB) devoureth before them;(RUSSIA-ARABS) and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
20 But I will remove far off from you the northern army,(RUSSIA,MUSLIMS) and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.(SIBERIAN DESERT)
30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.(NUCLEAR BOMB)
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

Deaths mount as Russia resists UN drive on Syria
AFPAFP – FEB 1,12

Fresh bloodshed swept Syria on Wednesday as the West and Arab League kept up their push for quick UN action to stop the regime's killing machine, but holdout Russia vowed to veto any unacceptable proposal.Wrangling at the United Nations came as fierce clashes across Syria killed 59 people, mostly civilians, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.In New York, Western diplomats were to try again to persuade Russia to back a tough UN Security Council resolution condemning the violence, diplomats told AFP.We can hope that Russia has understood the message but for now there is no notable progress, one said, while noting some slight signs of flexibility from Moscow.US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Security Council members had to decide whether to side with the Syrian people or a brutal dictatorship.Every member of the council has to make a decision: Whose side are you on? she told reporters in response to a question about Russian opposition to an Arab- and Western-backed resolution condemning President Bashar al-Assad.Are you on the side of the Syrian people? Are you on the side of the Arab League? the chief US diplomat asked.Or are you on the side of a brutal dictatorial regime? Each country will have to be mulling that over and making a decision.Earlier on Wednesday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov appeared to snuff out hopes of a quick vote.

Attempts are being made to find a text that is acceptable to all sides and would help find a political solution for the situation in Syria. Therefore there is going to be no vote in the next days,he told Interfax news agency. But French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said in Paris Russia had a less negative attitude towards a Security Council resolution and later acknowledged that a vote could take place perhaps next week. For the first time, the attitude of Russia and the BRICS (China, India and South Africa on the Security Council) is less negative,Juppe told MPs.The draft resolution, introduced by Morocco, calls for the formation of a unity government leading to transparent and free elections. It stresses that there will be no foreign military intervention in Syria as there was in Libya, which helped to topple Moamer Kadhafi. In Rabat, Foreign Minister Youssef Amrani said that Morocco, the only Arab country currently on the Security Council, was committed with all our partners to achieving a consensus on this resolution. On Tuesday, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al-Thani told the Council that bloodshed continued as the Assad regime cracked down on its opponents and that the killing machine is still at work.Russia, a long-standing Assad ally and one of his top arms suppliers, has declared that the UN body does not have the authority to impose a resolution that calls for regime change in Syria, a position supported by China. If the text is unacceptable then we will vote against,Russia's UN envoy Vitaly Churkin was quoted as saying by the RIA Novosti news agency.

Russia would not approve a text it viewed as incorrect and that would lead to a deepening of the conflict,he said. The Britain-based Observatory said Wednesday's heaviest toll was in Damascus province, where 24 civilians were killed.Fifteen soldiers were reported killed in the central city of Homs and six army deserters in Damascus itself. There were also reports of fierce fighting between the army and dissidents in Damascus, Homs and Idlib provinces.Al-Watan newspaper listed dozens of deaths in clashes in Homs and elsewhere in central Syria over the past two days.It said 37 rebels were killed in the Homs district, four soldiers in Bab Dreib and 15 rebels and two members of the security forces in clashes in Rastan, another central town.Against that background, the rebel Free Syrian Army's Turkey-based commander Colonel Riyadh al-Asaad told AFP that half of the country was now effectively a no-go zone for the security forces.Activists said the unrest had killed nearly 200 people over the previous three days, while France said 6,000 people have lost their lives since the beginning of the uprising nearly 11 months ago.The French figure comes after UN human rights chief Navi Pillay said last week that her organisation had stopped counting the dead because it is too difficult to get information. In January, UN data showed more than 5,400 people killed in Syria since the uprising began in mid-March.

Analysts warn that the conflict, between a guerrilla movement backed by growing numbers of army deserters and a regime increasingly bent on repression, has largely eclipsed the peaceful protests seen at the start of the uprising. The Syrian opposition, meanwhile, called for two days of demonstrations across the country from Thursday to mark the 30th anniversary of the 1982 Hama massacre. The regime of Hafez al-Assad, the late father of the current president, squashed an Islamist revolt in the central city that year, killing tens of thousands of civilians.

Egypt's war on democracy threatens U.S.-ties
ReutersBy Tom Perry | Reuters – FEB 1,12

CAIRO (Reuters) - Arriving in Egypt last year, Julie Hughes had hoped to help write history by aiding the country's new generation of politicians and civil society groups to build a democratic future.Instead, the American director of the National Democratic Institute is under investigation by authorities for funding irregularities at her U.S.-based group and is banned from leaving Egypt, a measure that prompted other activists to seek refuge this week in the U.S. embassy in Cairo.
Her hope for change, inspired by the fall of Hosni Mubarak at the hands of hundreds of thousands of protesting Egyptians, was punctured on December 29 when her offices were raided in connection with an investigation by Egypt's new military rulers. The work of NDI, which is loosely linked to the U.S. Democratic Party, had fallen prey to what Egyptian pro-democracy campaigners say is a war between remnants of Mubarak's inner circle and a rapidly developing civil society. It's a war, some campaigners say, that is more vicious than the one they fought under Mubarak, and it could further sour relations between Cairo and Washington, putting $1.3 billion of annual U.S. military aid in jeopardy. But for the authorities, it is a matter of law; the non-governmental organizations broke it by receiving foreign funding without government approval. For Hughes, the first casualty has been NDI's work with Egypt's budding new political class. That is more than a little heartbreaking for us, Hughes told Reuters at her Cairo home.

REFUGE

A handful of Americans, including a son of a member of President Barack Obama's cabinet, are sheltering behind the fortress-like walls of the U.S. embassy for protection. All employees of U.S.-based non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that have loose links to America's two leading political parties, they say they have been accused of running groups that were not properly licensed in Egypt and receiving foreign funding illegally.A judicial source said on Wednesday the travel ban had been extended to three more Americans, taking the total to 17 U.S. citizens out of a total of 28 foreigners who have been prevented from leaving Egypt. The source expected the release of the probe's results next week. The government has yet to confirm the specific charges, leaving the activists guessing as to what the punishment could be.The groups work on everything from educating voters to advising politicians on how to build a successful coalition.Hughes sums up the euphoria with which many activists arrived in Egypt. It's an honor to be right here now at this point in history: to see history being rewritten and being remade and people grabbing hold of their political future and helping them participate in the democratic transition, she told Reuters.NDI has trained around 14,000 Egyptians in advocacy, voter education and election monitoring since April 1 last year and has brought speakers including former leaders of Poland and Chile, countries with an experience of democratic transitions. But the investigation shows how far Egypt has to go before such organizations can operate as freely as they do in much of the world, highlighting what Egyptian activists describe as the persistence of the Mubarak-era mentality - one of fear of allowing too much debate.Egyptians have also been targeted by the investigation. They accuse the military rulers of trying to row back on democratic reforms by silencing their number.

It is one of the frontlines of the revolution, said Nasser Amin, head of an Egyptian-run organization working to advance judicial independence, which is also being investigated over its legal status. It is the counter revolution that is attacking us.Egyptian activists said the fact that the investigation has been spearheaded by a government minister who served under Mubarak showed it was being pursued in his image. But Faiza Abu el-Naga, minister of international cooperation, who has survived repeated cabinet reshuffles before and after Mubarak was driven out, has said the investigation is simply a matter of law.The rights groups that are being investigated received funds from abroad without government knowledge and in violation of the law,she told a news conference on the subject. Some political analysts said the steps were being orchestrated by the ruling generals to try to secure leverage over Washington while rallying support around anti-American sentiment and undermining the reputation of their most vocal critics in the Egyptian-led NGO community. But the generals will be careful not to lose the $1.3 billion in aid they get yearly in return for Egypt becoming the first Arab state to sign a peace treaty with Israel in 1979.Congress has approved this year's payout, but it has also set conditions, including requiring that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton certify the Egyptian government is supporting the transition. For now, Pentagon officials said the alliance with Egypt was still on solid ground.

There are going to be differences of opinion. There were before the popular revolution there ... Part of what makes a relationship a relationship is the ability to continue to discuss and try to find a way to move forward even beyond the differences you might share,Pentagon spokesman Captain John Kirby said in Washington.
On a visit to Cairo, Michael Posner, the U.S. State Department's top human rights official, urged Egypt to resolve the NGO issue. And it will almost certainly be discussed in Washington, where an Egyptian military team is visiting.

TOO MUCH FOREIGN MONEY

Some Egyptian media have said American money poured into NGOs last year, proving there was a plot to subvert the course of change in Egypt. The U.S. ambassador to Cairo had spoken of close to $40 million invested in organizations including NDI and the International Republican Institute, an NGO affiliated with the Republican Party which is also under investigation.Hafez Abou Saeda, chairman of the Egyptian Organisation for Human Rights, said the state's aim was to sway public opinion against the pro-democracy movement. It is using this card to influence domestic opinion: to give the impression that the whole revolution is a foreign product,he told Reuters.Abu Saeda's organization has faced no formal accusations in the current investigation, though he said his bank accounts were examined by investigators as part of the probe. The case has a sense of deja vu for him. He was jailed in 1998, accused of receiving foreign funds to write a report in which he documented cases of torture by the security forces.Instead of putting the officers on trial, they arrested me and put me on trial and said I had received foreign funds to distort the image of the country, said Abu Saeda. It's always the issue of foreign funding that is used to defame the rights movement in Egypt,he said, adding that his organization gets most of its funds from the European Union.

OLD REGIME REMAINS

The restrictions placed on NGOs over the years have encouraged many to register their organizations in other ways. The Arab Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession, the organization led by Amin, has been registered as a not-for-profit company since it was set up in 1997.All of a sudden they have discovered that we have been working for 15 years without an (NGO) license,he said from his organization's office overlooking the Nile, describing being questioned for seven hours on Monday over the group's legal status and funding.
His 11th-floor office was among those raided on December 29 by investigators who confiscated documents and computers. Staff were still using their own laptops on Tuesday because the equipment had yet to be returned.Amin said it was the return of the old days. The two judges investigating the case against his organization had formerly worked for Egypt's State Security Prosecution, part of a widely-hated security agency that was formally dissolved last year. The members of state security are still there in the apparatus,he said.A year after the revolution, the old regime has started to regain its strength.(Additional reporting by Ahmed Tolba in Cairo and Andrew Quinn in Washington; Editing Edmund Blair and Elizabeth Piper)

Greek PM seeks backing for reforms key to bailout
ReutersBy Harry Papachristou and Renee Maltezou | Reuters – FEB 1,12

ATHENS (Reuters) - Greece's prime minister will call the country's political leaders in the next few days to seek backing for more austerity after the International Monetary Fund warned this was key to securing the new bailout Athens needs to avoid a messy default. With a long-delayed deal with private sector creditors to cut Greece's debt mountain by 100 billion euros nearly wrapped up, the government is now racing to complete talks on the 130-billion euro ($170.18 billion) bailout by the end of the week.To do so, Athens must first persuade the European Union and the IMF - which have grown increasingly exasperated with its repeated failures to meet deficit and reform targets - that it will implement long-delayed reforms and slash spending further.Bankers said the bond swap deal, which will mean real losses of about 70 percent for Greek bond holders, is essentially done. But the second bailout and any official sector participation must be agreed before announcing a deal as all elements are interlinked. The PSI (private sector participation) deal has been done but we are waiting for the second bailout to come together and no announcements should be expected before Monday, said a senior Greek banker close to the negotiations. The coupon is under 4 percent.ECB action to further reduce the burden is seen as imperative and is proving a sticking point. The Insitute of International Finance, which represents banks and insurers in the debt swap talks, said constructive discussions continued and that it hoped various elements of the Greek rescue package would come together in the coming days. The prospect of elections as early as April complicates the talks with lenders, with political leaders in Prime Minister Lucas Papademos's coalition eager to distance themselves from any cuts that herald more pain for ordinary Greeks.

Antonis Samaras, whose conservative party shares power in the coalition, has rejected any further austerity, saying it risked plunging Greece even deeper into recession. Several lawmakers from all three major parties have said the same. This worries Greece's lenders, who want to make sure Athens will deliver this time.

We need assurances that whoever is in power after the election and reasonably wishes to make some changes in economic policy will make sure they are in line with the targets and the basic framework of the agreement,Poul Thomsen, the head of the IMF's mission for Greece, told daily Kathimerini on Wednesday.Government spokesman Pantelis Kapsis said Papademos would convene the conservative, socialist and far-right leaders in the coming days to ask them to back any deal but gave no date.
The meeting of the political leaders is crucial,Kapsis told reporters. In order to have a final deal, we first need to have a meeting of political leaders.

WAGE CUTS

Thomsen, who is in Athens to negotiate the new bailout together with a troika of senior EU and ECB officials, said the minimum wage level may have to be lowered and holiday bonuses cut to make Greece's firms more competitive. Athens may also have to fire civil servants, he said in the interview, though the bulk of savings in the public sector payroll will come from retirements. These demands are hotly contested in Greece. Labor unions have rejected cutting the minimum wage and slashing holiday bonuses and are seeking, together with employers, other ways to cut labor costs. It's all down to whether the Greeks manage to convince the troika that they will implement the necessary austerity measures, said a source close to the negotiations.
Thomsen also called for a new policy mix, which could help get political parties on board. We will have to slow down a little as far as fiscal adjustment is concerned and move faster - much faster - with implementing reforms,he said, adding that there are limits to what society can take.

RECESSION

More reforms and slower deficit reduction would be a policy shift compared with the country's first 110-billion euro bailout, which relied heavily on tax increases and less on spending cuts and which some economists blame for social unrest and the country's worst post-war recession.Greece has been dragged deeper into recession since it was first rescued by the EU and IMF in May 2010.The economy is set to contract by at least 3 percent this year, while Greece's lenders projected it would grow by 1.1 percent when they drafted the first bailout. Athens blames the deeper-than-expected recession for its failure to meet deficit targets while the lenders point to the delays on reforms. In a sign of Greece's economic struggles, manufacturing remained in deep recession in January with a record drop in production and a sharp decline in new orders leading to more job losses, a survey showed on Wednesday. Production fell at a record pace as new order volumes and work backlogs continued to decline sharply, the Markit survey showed. Some analysts said Thomsen's suggested policy switch would not work unless Greece's lenders, including the IMF, increase their aid for Greece above the 130 billion euro mark.It makes sense to put the emphasis on structural reforms and less on deficit reduction but this strategy will mean that Greece needs extra support and, at the moment, I don't see anybody willing to do that, said Christoph Weil, a Frankfurt-based economist at Commerzbank.

Greece's lenders have demanded it make extra spending cuts worth about 1 percent of GDP - or just above 2 billion euros - this year, including big cuts in defense and health spending. Thomsen said he was optimistic a deal would be done in days.Greek bank shares jumped after both the finance minister and Thomsen indicated that banks would escape nationalization when they are recapitalized.($1 = 0.7639 euros)

2 Texas missionaries found slain in north Mexico Associated PressBy CHRISTOPHER SHERMAN and KATHERINE CORCORAN | Associated Press – FEB 1,12

MEXICO CITY (AP) — A missionary couple from Texas were slain in their home outside the violence-plagued northern industrial city of Monterey, the U.S. Embassy and their family said Wednesday. The embassy identified the couple as John and Wanda Casias.Valerie Alirez, the eldest child of John Casias, told The Associated Press from her home in Greeley, Colorado, that one of her brothers found her father and stepmother Tuesday dead in their home in Santiago, Nuevo Leon. The family was originally from Amarillo, Texas, but relatives said John and Wanda Casias moved to Mexico in the late 1970s or early 1980s and made it their home.John Casias was a Baptist preacher and the couple ran the First Fundamentalist Independent Baptist Church in Santiago, Alirez said. Her brother, Shawn Casias, who lives in Monterrey, said he went to his parents' home around 4 p.m. Tuesday to pick up a trailer. After he had hooked up the trailer outside he went into the home to say goodbye. He said he found Wanda Casias lying on the floor with an electrical cord around her neck and a gash from a blunt object on her head.Missing from the house were a couple of computers, a plasma television and a safe that had been chiseled out of the wall.

The couple's Chevrolet Suburban was also missing, and Casias said he initially thought his father had been kidnapped. But about four or five hours later, he said, a forensic investigator informed him that his father's body had been found in a storage room of a small building on the property. His father also had an electrical cord around his neck.Casias said a sister-in-law in Dallas had spoken to their mother around 11 a.m. Tuesday and everything was fine. So he believes there was about a five-hour window when the killings could have occurred before he showed up.
He said the killers did not take everything they could have, leaving two of the three TV sets. He said perhaps they were warned that he was coming, because anyone watching the winding road approaching the home could have alerted them. They're scum. They're not sophisticated,he said.Speaking from his parents' home, Casias said the house was burglarized two years ago when the couple were on one of their periodic visits to the United States to talk at churches about their work in Mexico. We're convinced that it's somebody he knew,Casias said of the killers. He said authorities had some leads based on people seen around the home.John Casias was 76. He had recently priced a knee replacement because he couldn't walk more than 100 yards (100 meters) without having to sit down, Shawn Casias said. Wanda Casias was 67.Casias said his parents held services and prayer meetings at a church about 3 miles (5 kilometers) from their home.

The couple maintained a website, www.casias.org, with details of their lives and their missionary workThe only hope for the Mexican people today is Jesus in them, the HOPE of glory, they wrote in one dispatch from last summer. I confess that it's getting easier to witness to the wealthy, at least they are listening. The wealthy are fleeing to Canada and the USA for protection. The only problem is that when they return to re-new their visas the cartel is waiting, and either kill them of kidnap them for thousands of dollars, in some cases millions. The cartel has NO mercy or value for life. They are ruthless murderers! It was the second slaying involving American missionaries in a year in the Mexican region bordering Texas. In January 2011, a Texas couple who had been doing missionary work in Mexico for three decades were attacked at an illegal roadblock in one of the country's most violent areas.

Nancy Davis, 59, was fatally shot in the head while her husband, Sam, spend away from suspected drug cartel gunmen who may have wanted to steal their pickup truck, authorities said. The Davises were driving along the two-lane road that connects the city of San Fernando with the border city of Reynosa in the state of Tamaulipas, which borders Nuevo Leon.Associated Press writer Katherine Corcoran reported this story in Mexico City and Christopher Sherman reported from McAllen, Texas.

US Nuclear Sub Heads Towards Persian Gulf-Additional destroyer also on way to region near Strait of Hormuz Paul Joseph Watson Infowars.com Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Following the announcement that a third US aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise, would be heading to patrol waters near the Strait of Hormuz in March, it has also been revealed that the nuclear submarine USS Annapolis and the destroyer USS Momsen are also likely to heading towards the Persian Gulf in the build up to a possible attack on Iran. Two ships of the US Navy, the nuclear submarine USS Annapolis and the destroyer USS Momsen have passed through the Suez Canal into the Red Sea. Although their destination is confidential, they are now getting dangerously close to the Persian Gulf, reports RT, citing Interfax News Agency. With the likely destination of the two ships being the U.S. Fifth Fleet area of operations, they will be joined next month by the USS Enterprise, the third aircraft carrier to be stationed in the region along with the USS Vinson and the USS Abraham Lincoln. The US also has a 15,000-men force deployed in Kuwait comprising of an expeditionary marine battalion and an amphibious landing group. British and French warships are also acting as escorts to the US aircraft carriers.

What all this means is that the United States will have a massive naval presence just off Iranian waters to coincide with rhetoric concerning an attack reaching a crescendo. Earlier today a prominent bipartisan think tank, ostensibly a front for the US military-industrial complex, called on the Obama administration to increase pressure on Iran by sending even more naval firepower to the tense region. The US is currently conducting its biggest naval exercises in over a decade. The Bold Alligator joint Navy and Marine Corps exercise, taking place off the coast of Virginia and North Carolina, is clearly geared towards simulating a naval conflict with Iranian forces despite official claims to the contrary.Navy and Marine forces involved with the exercise will work scenarios involving mine warfare, countering small boat attacks and other irregular threats and fighting in shallow coastal waters, (Command chief Adm. John) Harvey pointed out. Those threats, among others, are the hallmarks of Iranian naval forces, reports AOL News.Iran’s repeated threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil choke point, have led many to speculate that the trigger for a military assault aimed at destroying Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities could happen in the waters of the Persian Gulf.Tehran is set to conduct more naval exercises in the Strait later this month. Experts estimate that around 1,000 mines would be required to block the 55km wide passage and that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have already stockpiled 2,000 mines for that very purpose.
