Palestinian victims describe being used as shields by Hamas

Members of a Gaza family whose farm was turned into a "fortress" by Hamas fighters have reported that they were helpless to stop Hamas from using them as human shields. They described how for years Hamas has used their property and homes as shields for military installations from which to launch rockets into Israel, dig tunnels and store arms. According to the victims, those who tried to object were shot in the legs by Hamas.

The Egyptian newspaper Al-Shourouq published on Friday afternoon what it said was an 11-point plan proposed by Egypt to Israel and Hamas in order to bring about a long-term ceasefire in Gaza. According to the report, the 11 points are as follows:

1-Israel will stop the attacks in Gaza, from sea, land and air. There will be no ground entries of Israeli troops into Gaza.
2-All the factions in Gaza will stop the attacks on Israel by land, sea and air. The construction of the terror tunnels will be stopped as well.
3-Movement of people and goods for the purpose of rebuilding Gaza will be permitted, as well as trade of goods from Judea and Samaria and Gaza, and vice versa, in accordance with the principles to be agreed upon between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA).
4-Israeli authorities will coordinate with the Palestinian Authority any matters related to finances and the reconstruction of Gaza.
5-Elimination of the buffer zone in northern and eastern Gaza and deployment of the Palestinian Authority’s security forces starting January 1, 2015.
6-Freedom of fishing and movement in the territorial waters of Gaza within six miles. The range will be gradually increased to no less than 12 miles, in coordination between the PA and Israel.
7-Israeli authorities will assist the Palestinian Authority in rebuilding the damaged infrastructure in Gaza, and will help meet the needs of those who were forced to flee their homes because of the fighting. In addition, Israel will provide urgent medical assistance to the wounded, and bring in food and humanitarian aid to Gaza.
8-The Palestinian Authority in coordination with the Israeli authorities and international organizations will provide the basic products needed to rehabilitate Gaza, according to a defined schedule that will allow for the rapid return of displaced persons to their homes as soon as possible.
9-Egypt urges the international community to provide urgent humanitarian assistance and raise the funds needed to rebuild Gaza, according to a defined schedule.
10-After the ceasefire is stabilized and normal life resumes in Gaza, the two sides will complete the indirect talks in Cairo, within one month from the date of the agreement which has not yet been signed.
11-Ways to set up and operate an airport and a seaport in Gaza, in accordance with the Oslo Accords and other previous agreements, will be discussed.

According to Channel 2 News, Israel and the PA have not yet submitted their response to the Egyptian proposal. Diplomatic sources in Jerusalem told the channel that Israel has not yet agreed to any proposal."Israel insists that any agreements clearly express Israel’s security needs," they stressed.Earlier Friday, an Islamic Jihad spokesperson claimed that a truce deal with Israel will be signed as soon the current five-day ceasefire ends next Monday at midnight.The statements come after Islamic Jihad second-in-command Ziad Nahala said Friday the war with Israel is "behind us," adding "we have no choice but to reach a truce agreement."However, another senior Islamic Jihad terrorist, Halad al-Batash, said Thursday night that his organization may embark on a long-term ceasefire even if a long-term truce deal is not reached with Israel.The statement roughly mirrors that of Minister Naftali Bennett (Jewish Home), who on Friday pushed for a unilateral end of the Gaza operation without an agreement with Hamas, accompanied by several Israeli concessions and an essential return to the status quo.(Arutz Sheva’s North American desk is keeping you updated until the start of Shabbat in New York. It said the group had all but accepted the terms and was currently finalizing the wording. Hamas and Islamic Jihad leaders said Thursday that a truce agreement with Israel is "very close," after a five-day extension to the ceasefire took effect the night before at midnight.A source in Hamas's leadership abroad, as opposed to in Gaza, said Thursday night that the extension was sealed at the last minute because an opportunity to achieve a breakthrough in talks occurred, reports Yedioth Aharonoth.There are indications that in the course of the five-day extension a finalized truce will be agreed upon, according to the Hamas source.An Egyptian truce proposal presented Tuesday "could lead directly to what we define as a break through and give an answer to our demands," said the Hamas leader.The Egyptian proposal offered an easing of the blockade on the Hamas terror enclave of Gaza, putting off larger Hamas demands such as a sea and airport, along with Israeli demands for a disarmament of Gaza, to be resolved in later discussions. Confirming the Hamas leader's words, the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization's second-in-command Ziad Nahala said Thursday that a truce agreement is indeed imminent, and will include a guarantee to remove the blockade on Gaza.Egypt talked Israel out of its security demands according to Nahala, who added that the discussions about a sea port or airport will be held a month after an initial truce agreement is signed.As for what's on the table for a truce in the meantime, Nahala said that Egypt helped to remove the Israeli demand for a disarmament of Gaza, and for an end to the smuggling to the Hamas stronghold, as well as the local production of weapons, and the disclosure of terror tunnels.The Islamic Jihad leader noted that both sides agreed on the opening of Gaza borders, easing entrance on goods into Gaza, extending the naval shipping zone for Gaza, and cancelling the "perimeter" on the Gaza side of the security fence, to which entrance has been banned so as to prevent terrorist infiltration to Israel."The agreement moves us from a state of war to a state of reconstruction," said Nahala.Qualifying the statement about reconstruction, a Hamas leader clarified on Tuesday that any truce agreement would only be so as to plan the next terror war against Israel. Meanwhile Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Tuesday reportedly held "softening talks" with party head coalition partners to gather support for Israeli concessions.

Palestinian victims describe being used as shields by Hamas

Members of a Gaza family whose farm was turned into a "fortress" by Hamas fighters have reported that they were helpless to stop Hamas from using them as human shields. They described how for years Hamas has used their property and homes as shields for military installations from which to launch rockets into Israel, dig tunnels and store arms. According to the victims, those who tried to object were shot in the legs by Hamas.

GAZA/JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A new, five-day truce between Israel and Hamas appeared to be holding on Thursday despite a shaky start, after both sides agreed to give Egyptian-brokered peace negotiations in Cairo more time to try to end the Gaza war.The Israeli military said Gaza militants had breached the truce by firing eight rockets at Israel shortly after midnight. In response, Israeli fighter planes targeted "rocket launchers and terror sites" across the enclave. Vatican City (AFP) - Fearing a genocide of Christians, the Vatican has given its approval to US military air strikes in Iraq -- a rare exception to its policy of peaceful conflict resolution.The Holy See's ambassador to the United Nations, Silvano Tomasi, this weekend supported US air strikes aimed at halting the advance of Sunni Islamic State (IS) militants, calling for "intervention now, before it is too late"."Military action might be necessary," he said.While the Vatican vocally disapproved of the US-led campaign in Iraq in 2003 and the 2013 plan for air strikes on Syria -- fearing both might make the situations worse for Christians on the ground -- fears of ethnic cleansing by Islamists has forced a policy change.Tomasi's appeal follows warnings from Church leaders in Iraq that the persecution is becoming a genocide, with urgent help needed to protect Christians and Yezidis in the north of the country, where tens of thousands have been forced to flee for their lives.Military support was needed "to stop the wolf getting to the flock to kill, eat, destroy", Rabban al-Qas, the Chaldean bishop of Amadiyah, told Vatican radio.Tomasi insisted "those supplying arms and funds to the fundamentalists, (and) the countries tacitly supporting them, must be revealed", while Qas pointed the finger at Saudi Arabia.Others, like the Iraq-based leader of the Chaldean Catholic Church, Louis Sako, called for wider intervention, saying the US strikes offer little hope the jihadists would be defeated."The position of the American President Obama only to give military assistance to protect Arbil is disappointing," said Sako, who has been trying to persuade his flock to resist attempts to drive them out of Iraq, and turn down offers of humanitarian visas to Europe.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United Nations Security Council is set to try and weaken Islamist militants in Iraq and Syria on Friday by blacklisting six people and threatening sanctions against those who finance, recruit or supply weapons to the insurgents, diplomats said.A British-drafted resolution, obtained by Reuters, targets the hardline Islamic State group - an al Qaeda splinter group that has seized swaths of territory in Iraq and Syria and declared a caliphate - and al Qaeda's Syrian wing Nusra Front.Diplomats, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the 15-member council was expected to unanimously adopt the resolution.The draft "deplores and condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist acts of ISIL and its violent extremist ideology, and its continued gross, systematic and widespread abuses of human rights and violations of international humanitarian law."A swift and brutal push by Islamic State, previously known as ISIL, to the borders of Iraq's autonomous ethnic Kurdish region alarmed Baghdad and last week sparked the first U.S. airstrikes in Iraq since the withdrawal of American troops in 2011.Islamic State has long been blacklisted by the Security Council, while Nusra Front was added earlier this year. According to an Iraqi who was forced to attend al-Baghdadi's July 4th speech in Mosul, much of the videotaped sermon was edited because it was riddled with mistakes and empty talk . The speech by al-Baghdadi, who has rarely been seen in public, came five days after ISIL announced it was establishing a caliphate in captured territory straddling Syria and Iraq and naming al-Baghdadi as caliph."Everyone has found mistakes in the sermon of the so-called al-Baghdadi such that not even a student of sharia would make," said Sheikh Mahmoud al-Khalidi, a member of the Iraqi Iftaa Authority and a preacher at Abu Hanifa Mosque in Baghdad. "This can be expected from someone who has throughout his life given priority to blood over forgiveness and tolerance."Sheikh Khaled al-Obaidi, a Sunni cleric in Baghdad, pointed out that al-Baghdadi's followers entered the mosque carrying guns, which is forbidden."His followers carried weapons and stood at the heads of worshippers, something which suggests the worshippers were forced to listen to his poorly worded sermon," he said.Al-Baghdadi also was ridiculed for wearing a flashy wristwatch during the speech that could be worth more than $6,000, Britain's Telegraph reported."(He concluded) saying he does not promise us luxury," said Mohammed Abu Saad, who attended the sermon. "Living under ISIL rule was impossible , especially in terms of the education for my two sons in schools controlled by these extremist groups," said Syrian merchant Mahmoud al-Idliby, who fled to Cairo with his family four months ago."A school, in ISIL's view, is a recruitment centre , no more and no less, where class hours are used to brainwash the students, especially the younger ones, and train them to take orders and carry them out without any objection, and to memorise the Qur'an robotically without comprehension, in addition to dozens of fatwas that incite murder and bloodshed."ISIL has abolished science, biology, Islamic education, national education, history and geography, and replaced them with books explaining Salafi-jihadist ideology, Qur'an memorisation and extremist interpretations of Islam's holy book, said Mahmoud al-Amin, a retired teacher in al-Raqa."Educational institutions have become centres for brainwashing young children to turn them into mobile time bombs that could detonate anytime, anywhere."Regional Centre for Strategic Studies researcher Wael al-Sharimi said it would get worse as more children became exposed to constant violence."Extremist jihadist thought becomes the correct thought for them after they are subjected to the brainwashing process, and thus a new jihadist generation is created."

BAGHDAD — A man purporting to be the leader of the Sunni extremist group that has declared an Islamic state in territory it controls in Iraq and Syria has made what would be his first public appearance, delivering a sermon at a mosque in Iraq’s second-largest city, according to a video posted online Saturday.The 21-minute video that is said to show Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, the head of the Islamic State group, was reportedly filmed on Friday at the Great Mosque in the northern city of Mosul. It was released on at least two websites known to be used by the organization and bore the logo of its media arm, but it was not possible to independently verify whether the person shown was indeed Baghdadi.There are only a couple known photographs of Baghdadi, an ambitious Iraqi militant believed to be in his early 40s with a US$10-million bounty on his head. Since taking the reins of the group in 2010, he has transformed it from a local branch of Al-Qaeda into an independent transnational military force, positioning himself as perhaps the preeminent figure in the global jihadi community.Baghdadi’s purported appearance in Mosul, a city of some 2 million that the militants seized last month, came five days after his group declared the establishment of an Islamic state, or caliphate, in the territories it seized in Iraq and Syria.
