THE MISSING PLANE MH370 SITUATION AT 12:03AM WED APR 23,2014

WELL FINALLY OFFICIALS ARE GONNA LOOK ON LAND.THEY DON'T THINK THE PLANE IS HIDDEN.BUT CRASHED ON LAND.WELL I THINK THEY WERE KIDNAPPED ON INDONESIA - NOT CRASHED LIKE THESE OFFICIALS OF THE INVESTIGATION BELIEVE.BUT AT LEAST THERE FINALLY GONNA LOOK ON LAND.

THE MISSING PLANE MH370 SITUATION AT 11:03AM WED APR 23,2014
WELL IS IT NOT INTERESTING JUST AS WE GOT THIS STORY ABOUT OFFICIALS LOOKING ON LAND TODAY.WE SUDDENLY HAVE AN ITEM OF INTEREST SHOWING UP AT AUSTRALIAS COAST.THIS ITEM IS PLEXIGLASS AND METAL WITH LOTS OF RIVOTS.AND ITS BEEN AT LEAST 3 HOURS SINCE I HEARD THIS REPORT ON TV.AND JUST LIKE MAGIC.WE ARE NOT GETTING ANY RESPONSE FROM MALAYSIA OR AUSTRALIA.

AND ALSO THE MALAYSIAN INVESTIGATERS REFUSE TO GIVE THE FAMILIES A PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION REPORT.BY 30 DAYS.THE FACTS ARE SUPPOSE TO BE WRITTEN OUT AND GIVEN TO THE FAMILIES AND MEDIA.SO WE KNOW THE FACTS.THESE ARE JUST SUPPOSE TO BE THE TRUE FACTS.SO WHAT ON EARTH IS MALAYSIA COVERING UP THAT WHAT FACTS-NOT THEORIES THEY DO NOT WANT THE FAMILIES RO READ.WELL I CAN GUESS WHAT FACTS THEY DON'T WANT REVEALED.THE FACTS THAT WILL PROOVE THE PLANE LANDED IN INDONESIA AND MALAYSIA IS COVERING UP THE TRUE FACTS.

AND ALSO MALAYSIA SAYS THEIR SETTING UP AN INTERNATIONAL TEAM TO LOOK INTO THE DISAPPEARENCE OF MH370-TO KEEP IT TRANSPARENT.IF THEY WANT TRANSPERENCY.GET THE FACTS TO THE FAMILIES AT LEAST.SO THEY CAN FIGURE OUT THE COVERUP BY MALAYSIA AND IRAN AND WHOEVER IS INVOLVED IN THE KIDNAPPING OF THE FREESCALE WORKERS AND CITIZENS FROM AROUND THE WORLD ON THE PLANE.

NOW I JUST HEARD IT WILL TAKE A FEW DAYS TILL THE DEBRIS IS DETERMINED FROM MH370 OR NOT.THE DISTRACTION JUST CONTINUES.

Unidentified material washed ashore-jacc-Media Release-23 April 2014 pm
Western Australia Police have attended a report of material washed ashore 10 kilometres east of Augusta and have secured the material. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is examining the photographs of the material to determine whether further physical analysis is required and if there is any relevance to the search of missing flight MH370.The ATSB has also provided the photographs to the Malaysian investigation team.No further information is available at this time.Any further information will be made available if, and when, it becomes available.

Suspension of air search today due to weather conditions-Media Release-23 April 2014-jacc
Planned air search activities have been suspended for today due to poor weather conditions in the search area.Three aircraft had already departed for today's search area prior to the suspension taking effect. They have been recalled.Current weather conditions are resulting in heavy seas and poor visibility and are making air search activities ineffective and potentially hazardous. The 12 ships involved in today's search will continue with their planned activities.

Search continues for Malaysian flight MH370-Media Release-23 April 2014—am-jacc
Up to 10 military aircraft and 12 ships will assist in today's search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.Today the Australian Maritime Safety Authority has planned a visual search area totaling approximately 37,948 square kilometres. The centre of the search area lies approximately 1584 kilometres north west of Perth.Bluefin-21 AUV is currently completing mission ten in the underwater search area. Bluefin-21 has now completed more than 80 per cent of the focused underwater search area. No contacts of interest have been found to date. The focused underwater search area is defined as a circle of 10km radius around the second Towed Pinger Locator detection which occurred on 8 April. The weather forecast for today is for isolated showers increasing to heavy rain, widespread low cloud, with south easterly winds, sea swells up to 2.5 metres and visibility of one kilometere. Prevailing weather conditions may affect today's air search.

Will the agony ever end for MH370 families? Now search teams think they may be looking in the wrong place for debris amid fresh rumour it may have LANDED.-Sources with the search team say the aircraft may have landed somewhere, rather than crashed into the Indian Ocean as previously believed-If no debris is found in the next few days the team may shift search focus-Fits with alleged sightings of MH370 at the time of disappearance-By Richard Shears-Published: 05:43 GMT, 22 April 2014 | Updated: 17:10 GMT, 22 April 2014-MAILONLINE

The fruitless search for the missing Malaysian Airlines jet might have to start all over again from scratch if no clues to its fate are found in coming days, it was claimed today. The international team searching the Indian Ocean for the Boeing 777 are now considering the seemingly impossible scenario of the aircraft having 'landed' somewhere, instead of crashing in the southern Indian Ocean.'We may have to regroup soon to look into this possibility if no positive results come back in the next few days,' sources within the International Investigation Team were quoted as telling the New Straits Times today.Looking in the wrong place? Sources from the investigation team have told the New Straits Times that if they do not find debris in the ocean soon they may have to search elsewhere.Looking in the wrong place? Sources from the investigation team have told the New Straits Times that if they do not find debris in the ocean soon they may have to search elsewhere. While the sources have not suggested which country the aircraft might have landed - or crashed - in, the possibility that an entirely new search in a different area is in line with suggestions by the Mail weeks ago that alleged sightings of a low-flying aircraft could have located it in a different place than the ocean.'The thought of it landing somewhere else is not impossible, as we have not found a single debris that could be linked to MH370,' sources were quoted as telling the paper.Sabotage probe after ANOTHER Malaysian Airlines flight is forced to make emergency landing after landing gear malfunctions.'However, the possibility of a specific country hiding the plane when more than 20 nations are searching for it, seems absurd,' said the sources. But they admitted that it was difficult to determine if the plane had really ended in the Indian Ocean, despite calculations seeming to point to that direction. The Mail reported early in the search that fishermen and villagers living in north east Malaysia had filed official statements with police claiming to have seen - or heard - a low-flying aircraft at the time when MH370 lost all contact with ground control.

THE 45 DAY RULE

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 has now been missing for 46 days - an important milestone as it allowed U.S. lawyers to pursue Boeing in U.S. courts.A 45-day rule, enforced by the National Transportation Safety Board, means that families can now file suits in U.S. courts against Boeing, an American manufacturer.'We don't feel we have a whole lot of other choices because we're certainly not getting any answers without (legal action),' Sarah Bajc told CNN. Ms Bajc, whose partner Philip Wood was on the flight, said she hoped that pressure in the courts might lead to the Malaysian government releasing important data. One key problem however could bt the lack of any plane.'If we don't have the "black box" with all the critical information on it, or we don't have any part of the wreckage, it would be very hard to maintain a claim against Boeing in any court in the United States,' Daniel Rose, an aviation attorney from Kreindler & Kreindler, told CNN.Their descriptions of a 'very loud engine' and headlights like those switched on by an aircraft about to land at night suggested that the aircraft was flying to the west, across jungle, very fast, at a low altitude. The sources told the government-controlled paper that it was difficult to determine if the plane had really ended in the Indian Ocean, although calculations pointed to that direction. The Malaysian-led investigation team, along with experts from Inmarsat and the UK's Air Accidents Investigation Branch, had to rely on an Inmarsat communications satellite, which did not provide any definite details, including the aircraft's direction, altitude and speed. One of the sources told the New Straits Times: 'A communications satellite is meant for communication...the name is self explanatory.'The reason investigators were forced to adopt a new algorithm to calculate the last known location of MH370 was because there was no global positioning system following the aircraft as the transponder went off 45 minutes into the flight.'The source added that the international team was looking at adding more ships and aircraft to the existing search area in the Indian Ocean - as well as widening the area because there were fears that searchers had been 'looking for the plane in the wrong place'.'We can't focus on one place too long as the ocean is very big, although the search team has been following the leads received and analysed.'It is by luck if we find the wreckage using the Bluefin-21 (the US-owned underwater search vehicle).' There is no physical evidence and we are totally depending on scientific calculations since day one, including the pings.'With the search now into its 45th day, Malaysian authorities are hoping more countries will come forward to share their crucial satellite and radar data.Suggesting that national security of various countries was involved, the source added: 'We have mainly been provided with selective data.'The source said that because the information potentially involved the national security of the country from which it was requested, only partial raw data had been provided, making it difficult for Malaysian authorities to get the full picture.'The data involved would be official information, so the (foreign) country cannot simply give it to us on paper or in soft copy - they will select only the ones that can be revealed.'The Malaysians had asked the US government to view data collected by its secret base, Pine Gap, in the Australian outback. But the request had been denied, sources said, after the US had said that no contact had been made with MH370.'We can't be forcing them to show us the data, as they had already said there was nothing,' one source said.

Submarine drone search for Malaysian plane to continue
By Byron Kaye 4 hours ago-APR 22,14-YahooNews

PERTH, Australia (Reuters) - A U.S. submarine drone will keep scouring the Indian Ocean floor for traces of a missing Malaysian jetliner after it finishes its current targeted search, Australian authorities told Reuters as a tropical cyclone suspended the air search.Authorities are under growing pressure to decide their next course of action as the Bluefin-21 drone nears the end of its first sweep of remote seabed which authorities believe is the most likely resting place of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 which vanished on March 8 with 239 people on board. The Bluefin-21 is expected to finish its targeted search of a 10 square kms (6.2 square mile) stretch of ocean floor, where a signal suspected to be from the plane's black box was detected, come Wednesday. No wreckage has yet been found."Bluefin-21 has now completed more than 80 percent of the focused underwater search area and further missions are planned," the Perth based Joint Agency Coordination Centre told Reuters in an email."The search will continue. We are currently consulting very closely with our international partners on the best way to effect this for the future."As the Bluefin embarked on its 10th trip to depths of more than 4.5 kms (2.8 miles), some 2,000 kms (1,200 miles) northwest of the Australian city of Perth, a tropical cyclone heading south over the Indian Ocean suspended the air search."It has been determined that the current weather conditions are resulting in heavy seas and poor visibility, and would make any air search activities ineffective and potentially hazardous," the JACC said. The ships involved in the day's search about 1,600 kms (990 miles) northwest of the Australian city of Perth would continue with their planned activities, the center added. The search coordinator, retired Australian Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, said on April 14 that the air and surface component of the operation would end about a week ago.But daily sorties have continued unabated in what is shaping to be the most expensive search in aviation history, involving some two dozen nations."There will be no change to our mission of one nine-hour flight per day," U.S. 7th Fleet public affairs officer Commander William J. Marks told Reuters on Tuesday.Meanwhile, a statement attributed to the families of passengers on board the missing flight accused the Malaysian government of giving information about the investigation to the media before them and demanded "regular pre-payments" of compensation before the investigation was complete. Many family members have been critical of the Malaysian government's handling of the so far fruitless search."We  don't expect that they find all of the plane, or all of the bodies, or even that they know everything about how this surreal situation happened, but we do expect at least a tiny bit of concrete evidence," said the statement, published on the families' Facebook page on Tuesday.Until conclusive proof confirms the plane's fate, the Malaysian government has "an obligation to make regular pre-payments to the families in need and they have an obligation to exert themselves beyond repeated attempts to force a closure of the issue".(Editing by Michael Perry)

VOICE OF RUSSIA-MAR 31,14
According to one of the latest, unlike what Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak backed by his Australian counterpart Tony Abbott is claiming, the plane did not crash into the southern Indian Ocean but was captured.MH370 could have been kidnapped to get to the technical brain-trust on board - 20 Freescale Semiconductor employees travelling to China. Freescale attracted attention because it is a Texas-based technology firm that develops components for hi-tech weapons systems and aircraft navigation among other things.Interestingly, that leading innovative company has been oddly unwilling to provide information on the missing people. Only the nationalities of the employees were made public: 12 of them were from Malaysia and eight from China. However, Freescale has persistently declined to release their identities. "Out of respect for the families' privacy during this difficult time, we will not be releasing the names of the employees who were on board the flight at this time," Freescale spokeswoman Jacey Zuniga said.Nevertheless, Mitch Haws, Freescale's vice president, described them as "people with a lot of experience and technical background," adding that "they were very important." According to Reuters, the vanished employees were engineers or specialists involved in projects to streamline and cut costs at key manufacturing facilities in China and Malaysia.

MAR 8,14 USA TODAY
Freescale Semiconductor is a technology company focused on what he calls " solutions in processing", and works with a variety of markets such as automotive and consumer electronics, to address issues of technology using microprocessors and sensors.Malaysia sent nine ( 2 MILITARY PLANES AT LEAST) planes and 15 ships to search waters between Malaysia and Vietnam. The Philippines dispatched three Navy ships and a surveillance plane. China sent two ships. (AND THE SAME MORNING SAT MAR 8,14 IN CANADA AND SUN MAR 9,14 IN MALAYSIA CHINA HAD 2 BOMBERS IN THE DISPUTED AREAS WITH JAPAN AROUND 11AM.AND THE MH370 WAS IN THE AIR TILL 6:30AM AT LEAST).I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE WITH 11 PLANES AND CHINAS 2 BOMBERS IN THE AIR LOOKING FOR THE PLANE THEY NEVER SPOTTED IT.AND AT LEAST 2 OF THE PLANES WERE IN THE STRAIT OF MAALACA LOOKING AND NEVER FOUND IT.WELL IF IT WAS IN INDONESIA LANDED AND THE 2ND PLANE SENT TO THE INDIAN OCEAN.THIS IS THE ONLY REASON I CAN BELIEVE WHY 9 MALAYSIAN PLANES -15 SHIPS AND 2 CHINESE WAR PLANES COULD NOT FIND THE PLANE RIGHT OFF.AND THERE WERE OTHER COUNTRIES THAT SENT PLANES OUT ALSO.I THINK THAILAND AND VIET NAM.BUT NOTHING FROM INDONESIA.THIS TELLS ME THE PLANE WAS LANDED IN INDONESIA AND THEY DID'NT WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SEARCH.THEY JUST WANTED TO BE HUSH HUSH ABOUT THE KIDNAPPED PLANE LANDING IN INDONESIA.(MY COMMENTS)

Tesla delivers first China cars, plans expansion-By JOE McDONALD 44 minutes ago-APR 22,14-YahooNews

BEIJING (AP) — Tesla Motors Inc. delivered its first eight electric sedans to customers in China on Tuesday and CEO Elon Musk said the company will build a nationwide network of charging stations and service centers as fast as it can.Tesla probably will invest several hundred million dollars in charging infrastructure in China, Musk told reporters. He said it will open several hundred service centers."My instructions to the team are to spend money as fast as they can spend it without wasting it," he said. The Palo Alto, California, company previously announced a $121,000 sticker price for its Model S in China. It said import taxes and shipping account for the difference with its U.S. price tag of $81,000.Customers received the first Model S sedans at a brief ceremony at Tesla's office in a Beijing industrial park, also the site of its first Chinese charging station."I'm incredibly appreciative of customers like you for taking a chance on a new product from a new company," Musk told them. "Without customers like you, we would have no chance."Chinese leaders want to develop an electric car industry and called in 2009 for annual sales of 500,000 electric cars by 2015 but have scaled back those plans. Industry growth has been slow partly due to rules that limit market access unless foreign manufacturers share technology with Chinese partners that might become rivals.Tesla hopes to partner with China's state-owned power monopolies, State Grid and Southern Grid, to operate charging stations, but no "serious discussions" have begun, Musk said. He said the car can be charged from a wall socket but the charging stations speed up the process. The stations will have solar panels, but Musk said that was meant to show vehicles can run without power generated from coal rather than to make them independent of utility companies. He said charging stations will be built both in cities and between them to facilitate long-distance travel.Musk said previously Tesla might sell 5,000 cars this year in China but emphasized Tuesday that was "just a guess.""I do think that's probably a good number. Maybe it will be higher," he said. "I don't honestly know. Thus far the response has been very positive."Musk also previously said Tesla might try to manufacture cars in China in as little as three to four years. He said that might take longer but the company still hopes to produce vehicles where they are sold.Foreign manufacturers that want to produce electric cars in China are subject to import taxes unless they give ownership of key technology to a Chinese partner. Producers such as General Motors Co. and Nissan Motor Co. have chosen instead to import electric and hybrid vehicles and pay duties that boost their price and limit sales. Some Chinese customers expressed frustration after Tesla delayed deliveries by several months. Musk said the company wanted to avoid a repeat of trouble it had in Europe when it rolled out vehicles too quickly. He said deliveries were postponed while the company made sure all customers had access to charging facilities."We intentionally held back on the debut to the Chinese market until we were confident of that," he said. Referring to customers, he said, "I met with them earlier today and personally apologized."Musk said Tesla still is deciding where in the United States to build what it says could be the biggest factory to produce lithium-ion batteries. The company is looking at four states — Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Texas — and is likely to break ground in more than one before making a final decision, Musk said. He said the company wants to make sure construction stays on schedule and keeps up with demand from Tesla's California auto assembly line."We are going to proceed with at least two locations in parallel, just in case one of them encounters some issues after breaking ground," Musk said. He said Panasonic was likely to be Tesla's partner in battery production.Tesla has no plans for additional modifications to strengthen the Model S undercarriage to protect against road debris after announcing in March it would add a titanium shield, said a company spokesman, Simon Sproule. Tesla announced the modification after two cars were destroyed in the United States in fires blamed on road debris that punctured an aluminum shield and their batteries.

Cyclone curtails aerial search for MH370-APR 22,14-YahooNews

Perth (Australia) (AFP) - The aerial search for missing Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 was suspended Tuesday due to a tropical cyclone, but not before several aircraft had departed on the mission, Australian officials said.Up to 10 military aircraft had been scheduled to fly over the Indian Ocean in hopes of spotting clues as to the fate of the Boeing 777, which vanished on March 8 carrying 239 people."Planned air search activities have been suspended for today due to poor weather conditions in the search area as a result of Tropical Cyclone Jack," Australia's Joint Agency Coordination Centre said, adding that 10 ships in the search zone would continue their work."It has been determined that the current weather conditions are resulting in heavy seas and poor visibility, and would make any air search activities ineffective and potentially hazardous."JACC later advised that prior to the decision to suspend search activities, four military aircraft had left the Pearce air base north of Perth, bound for the 49,491 square kilometre (19,108 square mile) visual search zone in the remote Indian Ocean.A fifth plane helping coordinate the search also left from the Learmonth base on Australia's western coast."These aircraft will continue with their missions, however, individual aircraft captains will assess the conditions once on station and use their discretion as to whether they continue their planned search activities or return to base."Australia is leading the hunt for MH370, which disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and is believed to have crashed into the Indian Ocean after veering sharply from its route for no apparent reason. No debris has yet been found from the plane and authorities say their best lead has been signals picked up by a black box locator earlier this month, which have since fallen silent.Australia's Ocean Shield ship has deployed an underwater autonomous vehicle (UAV) to scour the seabed at a depth of some 4,500 metres (15,000 feet) in the vicinity of these signals, hoping to find wreckage of the missing plane. But Prime Minister Tony Abbott suggested last week that the submersible Bluefin-21 would only be deployed for about a week, and the sonar scanning device has already covered two-thirds of the search zone without result."Bluefin-21 AUV has completed the ninth mission. No contacts of interest have been found," JACC said late Tuesday."Bluefin-21 is currently undertaking mission ten in the underwater search area."Australia's Bureau of Meteorology said severe Tropical Cyclone Jack was about 700 kilometres west-southwest of the Cocos Islands and moving south-southeast early Tuesday. While it posed no threat to the Cocos Islands or Western Australia, the likelihood of the system remaining a tropical cyclone in the region was high on Tuesday.

Israeli jets hit Gaza during unity deal celebrations-Strike reportedly aimed at terrorist about to launch rockets on Israel, but misses target; move comes as Hamas and PLO agree to reconcile-By AP and Times of Israel staff April 23, 2014, 6:14 pm 1

Israeli planes struck Gaza from the air Wednesday as Hamas and Fatah announced a historic reconciliation nearby in the Palestinian enclave.Reports said between three and seven people were injured in the attack, which targeted two people on a motorcycle in Beit Lahiya, in the northern strip.Medical official Ashraf al-Kidreh said the airstrike missed its target and wounded bystanders. The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement the strike was a “joint anti-terror operation” with the Shin Bet security service. It said “a hit was not identified.”The intended target — an Islamic Jihad operative — escaped unscathed, according to the Ynet news site. The site reported that the operative was en route to launch rockets at Israel. The wounded included a 50-year-old man and his two daughters, according to the Palestinian Ma’an News Agency, which put the injury toll at seven. The strike came as officials from the Hamas terror group and the Palestine Liberation Organization announced a historic reconciliation deal which would create a new unity government and allow for new elections. The announcement was met with celebrations on the streets of Gaza, AFP reported.Israeli officials have slammed the unity deal as pushing Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas further from peace efforts.Earlier this week, Gazans attempted two attacks on Israeli soldiers followed by a rocket barrage on southern Israel.

Fatah-Hamas deal would end peace process, Liberman warns-Reported unity agreement between rival Palestinian factions slammed in Israel; Bennett says pact would create ‘unity government of terror’-By Spencer Ho April 23, 2014, 3:59 pm 3-The Times of Israel

A unity agreement between Hamas and Fatah would spell the end of peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman said Wednesday in the wake of a report that the two factions had reached a reconciliation deal.“[PA President] Mahmoud Abbas must decide if he wants to make peace, and if he does, with whom,” Liberman said in a statement. “It’s impossible to make peace with both Israel and Hamas, a terror organization that calls for the destruction of Israel. The signing of an agreement for a unity government between Fatah and Hamas is a signature on the end of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.”An agreement between members of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Hamas that would see a new government formed within the next five weeks was reached following talks in Gaza City that began on Tuesday evening, a member of the PLO who wished to remain anonymous told AFP, adding that the parties had also made progress in discussions on holding elections.A press conference was expected to be called in Gaza Wednesday afternoon to address the reports.Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, and Abbas’s Fatah, the ruling party of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, have been at odds since 2007, when Hamas took over Gaza in a violent confrontation.Israel and the Palestinian Authority have been engaged in peace negotiations since July 2013, but the the parties have made little progress, and the talks have been in danger of falling apart completely since Israel refused to go through with the final phase of a four-stage prisoner release that it had agreed to before talks.Economy Minister Naftali Bennett called the reported alliance “a unity government of terror,” adding that “Hamas will continue to murder Jews and Abbas will continue to to demand the release of prisoners.“Whoever thought that Abbas is a partner [for peace] should reconsider his stance,” he added.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made comments similar to Liberman’s earlier in the day, although he did not state outright that a Fatah-Hamas deal would end the peace talks.“Instead of moving into peace with Israel, he’s moving into peace with Hamas,” Netanyahu said of Abbas. “He has to choose: Does he want peace with Hamas or peace with Israel? You can have one but not the other. I hope he chooses peace; so far he hasn’t done so.”Abbas told a group of Israeli journalists Tuesday that the Palestinians would agree to extend negotiations with Israel by nine months on the condition that Israel agreed to immediately commence discussing the borders of the future Palestinian state, and froze settlement construction, including in East Jerusalem.Raphael Ahren and AFP contributed to this report.

Netanyahu: Abbas must choose between Israel and Hamas-Amid reports of Fatah-Hamas reconciliation, PM says he hopes Palestinians opt for peace, even if ‘so far’ they haven’t-By Raphael Ahren April 23, 2014, 11:15 am 15-The Times of Israel

The Palestinian Authority can either make peace with Hamas or with Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday, warning PA President Mahmoud Abbas that a reported reconciliation deal with the terrorist organization ruling Gaza would mean the end of the current, US-mediated effort to negotiate a peace deal.“Instead of moving into peace with Israel, he’s moving into peace with Hamas,” Netanyahu said. “He has to choose: Does he want peace with Hamas or peace with Israel? You can have one but not the other. I hope he chooses peace; so far he hasn’t done so.”During a meeting with Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said Israel was trying to extend peace negotiations with the Palestinians beyond their April 29 deadline, but blamed Abbas for “raising additional conditions” that he knows Jerusalem cannot accept.Abbas told a group of Israeli journalists Tuesday that the Palestinians would agree to extend negotiations with Israel by nine months on the condition that Israel agreed to immediately commence discussing the borders of the future Palestinian state, and froze settlement construction, including in East Jerusalem.Netanyahu’s remarks echoed statements made Tuesday by Israeli officials who wished to remain anonymous. They said Abbas was laying down unacceptable terms in order to allow talks to fail without taking the blame.“The meaning of all these things is that he’s not interested in peace,” one official was quoted by Ynet as saying. “Someone who wants peace does not present time after time conditions he knows Israel cannot accept.”Abbas also said that Ramallah was still expecting the release of 30 pre-Oslo prisoners as part of the agreement to hold peace talks, and that he had rejected an Israeli demand to deport a number of them — some of whom hold Israeli citizenship.Another Israeli official told AFP that settlement building in Jerusalem would not be frozen and that Israel had never agreed to discuss the border issue separately from other core issues. Those include Palestinians refugees, the fate of Jerusalem, which both sides claim as a capital, security and mutual recognition.“It is impossible to define borders before an agreement on the other issues,” the Israeli official said.He also reiterated that Israel planned on expelling toward the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, or abroad, some of the last batch of prisoners that Abbas wants freed.“This has been clearly explained to the Palestinians. Never has Israel committed not to carry out expulsions,” he said.Economy Minister Naftali Bennett, head of the hawkish Jewish Home party, said Abbas’s threat that the collapse of talks would lead to the dismantling of the PA were nothing new.“We are hearing again and again the refrain of the same threat that if we don’t advance, if we don’t give him what he wants, then woe is us, he will dismantle the PA,” Bennett told a conference. “I suggest to Abbas, if you’re going to shoot, then shoot, don’t talk.”Opposition head Isaac Herzog, however, put the blame on Netanyahu, saying he had released prisoners without getting to an advance in peace talks, hurting Israel in the long run.“The time has come for Netanyahu to decide if he wants a Jewish state or a bi-national state,” Herzog wrote on his Facebook page.AFP contributed to this report.

Israel’s battered home front sustains another blow-The Home Front Defense Ministry is falling apart, underscoring how little has been done in the 7 years since the last war-By Mitch Ginsburg April 23, 2014, 1:50 pm 1-The Times of Israel

The Home Front Defense Ministry appears to be disintegrating. The current director-general announced his resignation on Monday. Home Front Defense Minister Gilad Erdan followed suit later in the day, saying he would step down on May 31. And Israel’s civilians – the clear target of each of Israel’s current enemies – continue to suffer from what has developed into a perilous level of neglect. In July 2007, one year after the outbreak of the Second Lebanon War, State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss released a report about the readiness of the home front. During the course of the 34-day war, he wrote, “multiple failures, some of them most grave,” were apparent in the way the government and the various security forces addressed the ongoing attacks against Israel’s civilians. The remedy, he wrote, was for the government to establish “a central, national organization” that could “concentrate on the home front during ordinary times and times of emergency – including the formation of protocol, the building of troop structure and their training.”That war, the first in which Israel’s enemy focused primarily on inflicting civilian casualties, claimed 44 civilian lives, saw 350,000 people flee their homes in northern Israel, and, for a variety of reasons, has left in its wake seven years of quiet for Israel’s north.Aside from Israel’s reestablished deterrence, which was bolstered by the price Hezbollah was forced to pay during battle, another reason for the lasting calm is that the Shiite organization, never more closely aligned with Iran than now, has been given direct orders to amass arms and hold fire up until the hour of need – if and when Israel decides to strike Iran’s nuclear program. In such a scenario, which would surely trigger war with Hezbollah, Israel would face a combined 3,000 rockets a day, a senior officer recently told The Times of Israel. And yet, with the threats brutally clear and the repercussions nakedly obvious, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has, in the face of quarreling home front rivals, refused to take a stand. To be fair, former defense minister Ehud Barak, Moshe Ya’alon, the current defense minister, and Prime Minister Netanyahu have come a long way in internalizing the potency of the missile threat facing Israel. Speaking earlier this month at a security conference in Tel Aviv, Barak underscored the importance of Israel’s multi-layered air defense system, dismissing the hefty price tag as insignificant in the larger scale, and scolding defense officials for their long-standing resistance to missile defense, which, he said, revealed “a lack of long-term vision.”Perhaps this seems obvious. But the army is hard-wired toward offense and, despite the achievements of its defensive systems, it rightly believes that success is measured by how long and at what cost the military is able to crush its enemy’s offensive capacity. Today, though, it recognizes that with Israel’s adversaries entrenched within their own civilian populations and investing almost exclusively in rockets and missiles and drones meant to strike at Israel’s civilians, the army, in order to achieve its goals, needs to buy time by keeping the home front quiet. This enables the government to employ its more precise tools against, say, a Hezbollah rocket launcher on the second floor of a three-story apartment building.Hence, Iron Beam, Iron Dome, David’s Sling, Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 – addressing every curved projectile threat from mortars to ballistic missiles. But those systems, terrific feats of engineering and organizational efficiency though they are, will not address the problems the residents of Safed, for instance, faced during the summer of 2006. They will not determine how many bomb shelters there are in each town and village, or how well stocked they are, or how much generator fuel the local hospital has, or who the mayor might call to help an old lady trapped in a house, or who gives orders to, and prioritizes the missions of, firefighters and Magen David Adom paramedics once a salvo of missiles strikes, say, multiple population centers in Tel Aviv. This, ostensibly, was why the Home Front Defense Ministry was created. But its birth was hasty, the progeny of a political deal that saw Barak splinter off of the Labor Party along with several other MKs, including Maj. Gen. (ret) Matan Vilnai, who was given the new ministry. Equipped with a budget, a staff and offices, the ministry, created in 2011, was never given legislative authority.Even the outgoing director general, Dan Ronen, a former police major general, said in August 2012, one year before he was picked to head the ministry, that “There’s no use denying it: the Home Front Defense Ministry was established solely for political reasons. The ministry has not only failed to contribute to the readiness of the home front during a time of emergency,” he wrote in an op-ed on YNET, “but has bothered and hindered the bodies already engaged in this work.”The IDF and the Defense Ministry could not agree more. “Who functioned during the [snow] storm?” Ya’alon said several months ago. “The entire IDF was behind that thing. The tools belonged to the IDF’s Home Front Command. The bulldozers were the engineering corps’, the helicopters were the air force’s, the APCs [armed personnel carriers] were Golani’s. Is there something else being built? Where are the draftees? All this is just idle talk, talk without understanding.”Pointing to the rigid chain of command from the prime minister to the defense minister, the IDF chief of staff and the head of the IDF’s Home Front Command, Maj. Gen. Eyal Eisenberg, Ya’alon said that the Home Front Defense Ministry was “a waste of the public’s money.”The Public Security Ministry, in charge of the police force and the fire department during ordinary times, wants its budget and authority increased so that it, a civilian organization, will be in charge of civilian matters during wartime. The head of the Emergency Services Directorate at the Public Security Ministry, Haim Cohen, told a Knesset committee in February that he sees no reason to differentiate between ordinary times and times of emergency. He did not note Israel Police’s 2010 debacle in dealing with the Carmel forest fire, which left 44 Israelis dead and was poorly handled from a command and control perspective. The National Security Council, according to its deputy director, Brig. Gen. (res) Ze’ev Zuk-Ram, has suggested that the IDF continue to train the Home Front Command soldiers but that it turn them over to the Public Security Ministry during a war. “I don’t want the minister of defense dealing with every missile that falls on Tel Aviv,” he told the same Knesset committee. “The defense minister should be focused on the front. What happens in Tel Aviv is the responsibility of the Public Security Ministry. It is not within the IDF’s focus.”The Home Front Defense Ministry, prior to Erdan’s bombshell letter to Netanyahu — “In order to avoid the continued overlap and the waste of public funds, it is advisable to place the full responsibility of the preparation of the home front, in both routine and emergency [situations], with the Defense Ministry”– sought a middle ground, where it would have regulatory authority during times of peace but not command control during times of war. Now, more than seven years after the Second Lebanon War, it is threatening to fold. And Israeli civilians are, minus the advances in air defense, back where they started.

SKorea ferry toll hits 156 as search gets tougher
By GILLIAN WONG and HYUNG-JIN KIM 2 hours ago-APR 23,14

JINDO, South Korea (AP) — As the 156th body was pulled from waters where the ferry Sewol sank a week ago, relatives of the nearly 150 still missing pressed the government Wednesday to finish the grim task of recovery soon. But the work was reaching a new, more complicated phase, with an official saying divers must now rip through cabin walls to retrieve more victims.Looming in the background is a sensitive issue: When to bring in the cranes and begin the salvage effort by cutting up and raising the submerged vessel. The government has warned that the work might eliminate air pockets that could be sustaining survivors, but for some relatives that is a long-lost hope."Now we think we have to deal with this realistically," said Pyun Yong-gi, whose 17-year-old daughter is among the missing."We don't want the bodies to decay further, so we want them to pull out the bodies as quickly as they can," Pyun said on Jindo island, where recovered bodies are taken for families to identify. That view is not shared among all relatives of the missing, however. One of them, Jang Jong-ryul, was sensitive about the mere mention of the word "salvage" and said most families don't want to think about it.The number of corpses recovered has risen sharply since the weekend, when divers battling strong currents and low visibility were finally able to enter the submerged vessel. But Koh Myung-seok, spokesman for the government-wide emergency task force, said the work is becoming more difficult, and divers must now break through cabin walls."The lounge is one big open space, so once in it we got our search done straight away. But in the case of the cabins, we will have to break down the walls in between because they are all compartments," Koh said. The government has not said when it intends to begin the salvage effort, though it has said it will be considerate of families of the missing."Even if there is only one survivor," Koh said, "our government will do its best to rescue that person, and then we will salvage the ferry."For some relatives of the missing, speed in recovering the dead is becoming more important than shrinking hopes that their loved ones might still be alive."I've seen the bodies and they are starting to smell. It inflicts a new wound for the parents to see the bodies decomposed," Pyun said.He and other relatives have set a deadline of Thursday for the government to recover all the bodies, though he concedes they have no way to enforce it. "We are not the ones who are actually doing it, so we know that there is nothing we can do," Pyun said. The victims of the April 16 disaster are overwhelmingly students of a single high school in Ansan, near Seoul. More than three-quarters of the 323 students are dead or missing, while nearly two-thirds of the other 153 people on board survived. The funeral halls in Ansan are already full, Oh Sang-yoon of the task force center said in a statement. He said the center "is taking measures to accommodate additional bodies by placing mortuary refrigerators at the funeral halls in Ansan," and directing mourning families to funeral homes in nearby cities.Twenty-two of the 29 members of the ferry's crew survived, and 11, including Capt. Lee Joon-seok, have been arrested or detained in connection with the investigation. Two of the crew were arrested Wednesday, senior prosecutor Ahn Sang-don said.Ahn said an analysis of photos and video on the ship before its sinking showed the captain and other arrested crew members didn't rescue passengers, though it was their duty. Ahn said the crew members were at the ship's steering room or engine room together before fleeing the Sewol earlier than passengers. The captain initially told passengers to stay in their cabins, and waited about half an hour to issue an evacuation order. He has said he waited because the current was strong, the water was cold and passengers could have drifted away before help arrived. But maritime experts said he could have ordered passengers to the deck — where they would have had a greater chance of survival — without telling them to abandon ship.It was not the crew but a passenger who first alerted authorities that the boat was in distress, the coast guard confirmed Wednesday. An emergency call was made 8:52 a.m. last Wednesday to the Jeonnam 119 fire department, which transferred the call to the Mokpo coast guard office, the coast guard said in an emailed statement. The ferry made its first distress call three minutes later.Yonhap news agency reported that the caller was a student from Ansan, and remains missing. The cause of the disaster is not yet known. Ahn said investigators are considering factors including wind, ocean currents, freight, modifications made to the ship and the fact that it turned just before it began listing.Tracking data show that the ship made a 45-degree turn, and that it turned about 180 degrees in the course of about three minutes around the time the vessel began to list.A maritime professor who spoke with the Sewol's third mate, who is among those arrested and was steering the ferry before it sank, said he suspects a problem with the steering gear caused the sinking.Professor Kim Woo-Sook of Mokpo National Maritime University said he spoke to Park Han-gyeol, a former student, a Mokpo detention facility. He says she told him she ordered a helmsman to make just a 5-degree turn, but the steering gear turned too far and the helmsman could not turn it back.Kim said the steering gear would not have been enough alone to capsize the ship, but he suspects it caused poorly secured freight to shift, making the vessel unbalanced. He said he told her he believes she didn't make any mistakes in steering the ship, but that was wrong to have followed the captain in escaping the ship without protecting the passengers.Senior prosecutor Yang Jung-jin said government investigators have not confirmed problems in the steering gear of the Sewol.___Kim reported from Mokpo, South Korea. EXODUS 15:1-4
1  Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
2  The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday accused the government in Kiev of breaching the international Geneva accord reached last week aimed at defusing the crisis in Ukraine. He said Kiev authorities had not granted an amnesty to arrested protesters, as required by the Geneva deal.

Finland signs Nato assistance deal

US to send 600 troops to Baltics, Poland amid Ukraine tensions
Today @ 09:16-APR 23,14-EUOBSERVER--By Honor Mahony

BRUSSELS - The US Tuesday (22 April) announced it is sending hundreds of troops for military exercises to four countries in Eastern Europe to assure them of its commitment to the region's defence amid ongoing tension in Ukraine. The 600 US troops will be deployed to Poland and the three Baltic countries - Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania - and will conduct live ammunition exercises with forces from the four host states. The US Pentagon said the move was in response to Russia's actions in Ukraine.“If there’s a message to Moscow, it is the exact same message, that we take our obligations very, very seriously on the continent of Europe,” said Pentagon press secretary, Rear Admiral John Kirby on Tuesday, according to US media reports.Kirby said the decision was more than about symbolism, with Nato having ruled out military intervention in Ukraine.“Any time you put troops on the ground and doing exercises — in this case, for a month at a time — it’s more than symbology. The kind of work that we’re going to be doing is real infantry training. And that’s not insignificant.”Around 150 troops are to arrive in Poland from a US base in Italy on Wednesday while the three Baltic states should all see US troops by next Monday. The move is in response to Russia's annexation of Crimea last month following a referendum which the US and the EU have not recognised. Tensions have since spread to eastern Ukraine with armed pro-Russia forces occupying areas and refusing to leave until the country's acting government steps down. The developments, which have seen Russia mass elite troops on the Ukrainian border, have made EU states neighbouring Russia and Ukraine particularly nervous. However, the EU as a whole has struggled to find a coherent response, as it weighs a series of issues including not escalating the crisis and protecting economic and energy interests. The US has been more forthright in its response although military intervention has been ruled out.Vice President Joe Biden after a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk on Tuesday told Kiev that it will not walk this "difficult road" alone."No nation has the right to simply grab land from another nation,” he said. “No nation has that right. And we will never recognise Russia’s illegal occupation of Crimea, and neither will the world.”Biden also called on Russia to “stop supporting men in masks in unmarked uniforms" who have seized buildings in eastern Ukraine. The US has air force fighters circulating in the four countries and a navy presence in the Black Sea.On Tuesday Washington said it would provide $50 million in aid “to help Ukraine pursue political and economic reform and strengthen the partnership between the United States and Ukraine" and $8 million in non-lethal assistance to Ukraine troops.

Ukraine's leaders say have U.S. backing to take on 'aggressors'
By Pavel Polityuk and Alastair Macdonald 3 hours ago-APR 23,14-YahooNews

KIEV (Reuters) - Ukraine's government relaunched a security operation to crack down on pro-Russian armed groups after an Easter pause on Wednesday and said it had the backing of the United States.Prompted in part by the discovery of the body of a Ukrainian politician who appeared to have been tortured, officials in Kiev decided to renew what they call an "anti-terrorist operation" against separatist militias who have seized control of about a dozen public buildings in eastern Ukraine. But it was unclear what steps, in reality, Kiev could take to restore its authority in the mainly Russian-speaking east, without wrecking an international deal, signed last week in Geneva, designed to defuse the stand-off.The crisis over Ukraine, now in its fourth month, has dragged Russia's relations with the West to their lowest level since the Cold War. A further escalation could lead to damaging economic sanctions, and raises the risk of a disruption to the Russian gas supplies on which Europe depends."The security forces are working on the liquidation of illegal armed groups," in the east of Ukraine, First Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Yarema told reporters."The corresponding activities will be carried out in the near future, and you will see the results."The Kiev government, which took power after Moscow-backed President Viktor Yanukovich fled the capital in a row over whether to strengthen ties with Europe, appeared to have been emboldened by Tuesday's visit of U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden. He brought a package of aid and urged Russia to curb the separatist militias in the east."We have obtained the support of the United States, that they will not leave us alone with an aggressor. We hope that in the event of Russian aggression, this help will be more substantive," Yarema said. The United States and NATO have made clear they will not intervene militarily in Ukraine. But the Pentagon said it was sending about 600 soldiers to Poland and the three Baltic states for infantry exercises, to reassure NATO allies. The Kiev government and its Western supporters accuse Moscow of using covert agents to foment unrest in eastern Ukraine. Moscow denies that, and says people in the east rose up spontaneously against a government in Kiev which, it says, is illegitimate and aligned with far-right nationalists.Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow would respond if its interests, or the interests of Russian citizens were attacked."Russian citizens being attacked is an attack against the Russian Federation," he said according to excerpts of an interview with Russia Today news channel.Russia justified its intervention in Crimea earlier this year by saying it had to defend Russians living there. In eastern Ukraine some people hold Russian passports. The European Union said Russia should use its leverage to ensure an immediate end to the violence in eastern Ukraine.Lavrov said Moscow has no influence over the pro-Russian militias in eastern Ukraine. He said he suspected Washington was directing the Kiev government's response to the crisis.

GAS SUPPLIES

Russian gas giant Gazprom has said it will turn off supplies to Ukraine next month unless Kiev pays its outstanding debts. That would have a knock-on effect on deliveries to Europe, because much of the gas shipped westwards has to pass through Ukrainian territory.Ukrainian Energy Minister Yuri Prodan said Russia had proposed a ministerial meeting on Thursday with Ukraine and European officials in Slovakia to talk about gas but the European Commission said Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger was not expected to attend any talks. The crisis in Ukraine began when Yanukovich, under pressure from Moscow, pulled out of a planned cooperation agreement with the EU. Pro-Western protesters took to the streets and Yanukovich fled after bloody clashes. As a caretaker leadership of pro-Western protest leaders took over the government in Kiev, the Kremlin sent its forces into Ukraine's Crimea Peninsula, and shortly after annexed the region. Moscow said it acted to protect local people who were being persecuted by Kiev's new rulers, while the West called it an illegal land grab.In Slaviansk, a flashpoint eastern Ukrainian city controlled by pro-Russian armed men, the de facto local leaders ordered residents to brace for an offensive by security forces loyal to Kiev, but there was so far no sign of any operation on the ground.Ukraine's poorly resourced forces had previously shown little sign of taking on the gunmen who started occupying towns and public buildings two weeks ago. The offensive may not lead to much more action but could fuel recriminations between Moscow and Kiev about who is failing to honor the Geneva deal.Mediators from the Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe, tasked with helping the sides implement the accord, were in eastern Ukraine trying to encourage illegal groups to disarm. There was no sign yet they were backing down.

ANGRY MOB

In areas under the separatists' control, there was growing evidence of arbitrary rule by self-appointed local officials, backed up by heavily-armed militias, and of violence being meted out against opponents.Kiev's decision to resume its security operation in the east was prompted in part by the discovery of two bodies in a river near Slaviansk. One resembled Volodymyr Rybak, a member of the same Batkivshchyna party as Ukraine's acting president.A video released on a local news site, gorlovka.ua, purported to show Rybak being confronted by an angry crowd outside the town hall in Horlivka, where he was a councilor. In the footage, Rybak can be seen being manhandled by several men, among them a masked man in camouflage, while other people hurl abuse. After several minutes, Rybak appears able to walk away. The Interior Ministry said he was seen being bundled into a car by masked men in camouflage later that day. His body, and that of a second man, was found on Saturday in a river near Slaviansk. In Slaviansk itself, the militia is holding three journalists, including one U.S. citizen, Simon Ostrovsky, who works for the online news site Vice News. The separatists say they themselves are victims of violence and persecution by the Ukrainians authorities and illegal armed groups which, they say, support Kiev.

SANCTIONS

A senior U.S. official said Secretary of State John Kerry told Russia's Lavrov in a telephone call on Tuesday that Washington would impose new sanctions on Russia if tensions did not de-escalate in eastern Ukraine. This would be in addition to the visa bans and asset freezes already imposed by Washington and Brussels on a list of Russian and Ukrainian officials. These measures were imposed after Russia's annexation of Crimea. The Russian government has scoffed at the sanctions imposed so far, and said it would withstand any further measures that are imposed. But investors in Russia are jittery. Shares in Moscow were down for a third straight day."Most traders are skeptical, as the U.S. government and Russia keep on blaming each other for failing to de-escalate the crisis in eastern Ukraine after the Geneva meeting," Alexandr Maksimov, an analyst at AForex investment house, wrote in a note.EU diplomats said the bloc was holding off from imposing further sanctions until it sees whether the Geneva deal works. The EU has been more cautious than the United States in imposing sanctions on Russia, with some member states worried about antagonizing a country supplying a third of Europe's gas.(Additional reporting by Natalia Zinets and Richard Balmforth in Kiev and Nigel Stephenson in Moscow; Writing by Christian Lowe; Editing by Anna Willard)

EU elections may strengthen Putin in Europe
Today @ 09:29-APR 23,14-YahooNews--By Eszter Zalan-EU OBSERVER

BRUSSELS - Far-right parties are set to do well in next month’s elections to the European Parliament, a fact that has thrown a spotlight on their links with the Kremlin.A recent study by the Budapest-based Political Capital Institute documents the support that far-right parties in the EU have given to Russian President Vladimir Putin, particularly throughout the Ukraine crisis. These parties repeated the Kremlin’s line that it is the EU and the West, rather than Russia, which are provoking tension and fuelling violence in the Eastern European country.Several far-right politicians went to observe the Crimea referendum on re-joining Russia, a vote they said was free and fair although it was denounced as illegitimate by most Western leaders.Among those that went were politicians from far-right or populist parties in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France and Hungary. The EU-based parties – anti-European Union and favouring a strong nation state – see their world view reflected in the Kremlin. President Vladimir Putin has set his sights on restoring his country’s status as a world power, while weakening Euro-Atlantic ties."There is reason to believe that Russian diplomacy seeks to build party families in Europe," the study says.It cites numerous examples of far-right parties participating in events attended by or organised by Russian policymakers.A congress held by Italy’s Northern League in December last year, for example, was attended by Austrian, Flemish, Dutch and Swedish far-right leaders as well as Vikto Zubarev, an MP for United Russia, Putin’s party.Hungary’s Jobbik and Greece’s Golden Dawn are both invited to the Russian National Forum organised by a group with close ties to Putin to be held later this year.Admiration for Putin also extends to Europe’s softer right-wing. Nigel Farage, leader of the eurosceptic UK Independence Party, has openly backed Putin as a skillful "operator".He recently said the Russian President was the current leader he most admired and said the EU had "blood on its hands” for making Ukraine choose between the European Union and Russia. The support by the European parties – some of which are set to top the polls in the May EU vote – adds to an already muddled backdrop of the EU trying to form a unified response to Moscow’s actions in Ukraine. It was only after much discussion that the EU finally agreed to blacklist some Russian officials and companies.

Marine Le Pen: new 'Cold War'

Amid the controversy and debate about the state of EU-Russia relations, Marine Le Pen, leader of France’s National Front, headed to Moscow for the second time this year. On 11 April she travelled to meet Sergey Naryshkin, speaker of the Russian parliament's lower house, and named on the EU's sanctions list.During the visit Le Pen asserted her support for Russia in the Ukrainian crisis, blaming the EU for declaring a new "cold war on Russia”.Le Pen said Ukraine's eastern regions should be allowed to choose greater independence from Kiev and said she was in favour of a "federation inside Ukraine”. This would be the most "logical" and "respectful" solution to end tensions, she said.Bulgaria: under pressure over Russia sanctions.Further to the east, recent history complicates matters further. Bulgaria is a member of Nato and the EU, but the former communist country is still very close to Russia. Not only are older citizens Russophiles, but many decision-makers too.Georgi Kadiev, an MP with the ruling Bulgarian Socialist Party, recently said his father used to be an officer in the Soviet army and today he finds it difficult to explain to him why Bulgaria will go along with sanctions against Moscow over the annexation of Crimea. The government has so far maintained its support for the sanctions, but it may yet feel the pressure domestically. The fragile coalition government in Sofia depends on the support of Ataka, an extreme right-wing nationalist party. But Ataka could withdraw its support if the government continues to back sanctions against Russia.Daniel Smilov, a political analyst, said that Ataka acts as if it were a part of Russia or Putin's Eurasian Union.Ataka’s official statements underline his point. The party says that the referendum in Crimea reflects the free will of its citizens and that it acknowledges the results and supports the annexation.

Far-right in Austria: flirting with Putin

Election observation in Europe is usually carried out by the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), but the review of the Crimean referendum last month was financed and organised by Brussels-based Eurasian Observatory for Democracy and Elections, led by well-known right-wing politician Luc Michel. The 56-year-old attorney is said to be an admirer of Putin’s United Russia party. When people in Crimea went to the polls to vote on their annexation to Russia, OSCE officials were not allowed to enter the peninsula. However, Austrian far-right MPs Johann Gudenus and Johannes Hüber (both from the Freedom Party, FPOe) as well MEP Ewald Stadler were there to check the process.Bela Kovacs, a Hungarian MEP, and Milan Sarapatka, a Czech MP, were also among the many delegates to rubberstamp the result, recognised only by Russia, Kazakhstan and Armenia as legitimate. For his part, Heinz-Christian Strache, Austria's Freedom Party leader, has been in contact with Putin’s supporters on a lower level. He visited Moscow in 2011, stating he would maintain "friendly contacts” with United Russia.

Hungary's Jobbik: the best performing pupils

Hungary’s Jobbik earlier this month (6 April) won over 20 percent in national elections making it the far-right party with the highest rate of popular support in Europe. While some right-wing parties in Western Europe – such as France's National Front – refuse to build alliances with Jobbik, they are welcome guests in Moscow. There have been rumours about Jobbik's financial ties with Russia in Hungary for years, but nothing has been proven. However, Jobbik politicians openly support the Kremlin, and believe that opening to the east and Russia is essential. In an interview with The Voice of Russia in 2013, Jobbik leader Gabor Vona said: "I consider Russia as a country of key importance. Besides Turkey, I believe Russia is the other Eurasian power that could spearhead a real political, economic and cultural resistance against the Euro-Atlantic bloc.”While the overall effect of this far-right support is diffuse, Putin has been clever to exploit more mainstream parties too, playing on member states' economic and energy ties with Russia. This has seen Hungary's centre-right leader Viktor Orban, for example, agree a nuclear power plant deal with Moscow, financed with a Russian loan of €10bn.In next month's EU vote, parties such as the National Front, Austria's Freedom Party or UKip are expected to do well, perhaps even emerging top among their domestic peers. Most analysts say that the parties – notoriously unable to work with one another due to internal squabbling – are unlikely to hinder the legislative work of the European Parliament. However, their very presence and their relative electoral success could push other mainstream parties towards the same eurosceptic stance – something that would no doubt be welcomed in the Kremlin.Florence Morice contributed from France; Florian Peschl from Austria and Nicoleta Popkostadinova from Bulgaria.

DANIEL 7:23-25
23 Thus he said, The fourth beast (EU,REVIVED ROME) shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth,(7TH WORLD EMPIRE) which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.(TRADING BLOCKS-10 WORLD REGIONS/TRADE BLOCS)
24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings(10 NATIONS-10 WORLD DIVISION WORLD GOVERNMENT) that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.(TAKE OVER 3 WORLD REGIONS)

DANIEL 12:4,1
4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

REVELATION 13:1-3,7,8,12,16-18(ALL THE WORLDS CITIZENS UNDER DICTATORSHIP)
1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
16 And he causeth all,(WORLD SOCIALISM) both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

REVELATION 17:3,7,9-10,12,18
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.
10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

We shall have World Government, whether or not we like it. The only question is whether World Government will be achieved by conquest or consent.James Paul Warburg appearing before the Senate on 7th February 1950

Like a famous WWII Belgian General,Paul Henry Spock said in 1957:We need no commission, we have already too many. What we need is a man who is great enough to be able to keep all the people in subjection to himself and to lift us out of the economic bog into which we threaten to sink. Send us such a man. Be he a god or a devil, we will accept him.And today, sadly, the world is indeed ready for such a man.

Time for EU energy union, says Polish PM
22.04.14 @ 10:54-By Benjamin Fox-EUOBSERVER

BRUSSELS - The European Union must create an energy union to secure its supply and reduce its dependence on Russian gas, Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said.Tusk's energy blueprint, set out in an article in the Financial Times on Tuesday (22 April), would establish a single European body that would buy gas for the whole 28-nation bloc. This would end a system that currently sees the different countries negotiate their own deal with energy giant Gazprom, the government-backed firm which dominates Russia's gas market.Meanwhile, "solidarity mechanisms" between EU countries would kick into action if countries were threatened with being cut off from gas supplies. The question of energy independence, which was already one of particular concern to the EU's eastern European countries, many of whom complain that they are overcharged by Gazprom, has become more prominent as a result of the ongoing Ukraine crisis.Last month, Russia doubled the price of the energy it sells to Kiev, increasing the pressure on the already cash-strapped government in Ukraine.Meanwhile, Baltic country Lithuania is suing Gazprom, arguing that it pays 35 percent more for its gas than Germany.Gazprom is currently subject to a probe by the European Commission's competition department over its dealings with eight EU countries, including Lithuania, and could face a multi-million euro fine for abusing its position as the dominant force in the gas market."Today, at least 10 EU member states depend on a single supplier - Gazprom - for more than half of their consumption," noted Tusk. However, Tusk's view is not shared by the bloc's energy commissioner, Gunther Oettinger who has stated that gas deals between EU countries and Russia will not be affected even if economic sanctions are imposed on Moscow because of its role in destabilising Ukraine."From my many talks with Gazprom, my impression is that our Russian partners will fulfill their contractual obligations and want to supply the gas," Oettinger told a German Sunday newspaper."I am against scaling back or even cutting our gas links with Russia in the coming years," he added.Tusk also calls for EU countries to be allowed to exploit existing supplies of fossil fuels and the so-far untapped resources of shale gas.Poland has been one of the most enthusiastic countries about shale gas exploration. However, uncertainty about the volume of gas deposits on European soil and public disquiet about the practice of hydraulic fracturing - needed to access the gas - means that Europe has not seen anything approaching the shale gas boom that has transformed the US energy market."No nation should be forced to extract minerals but none should be prevented from doing so - as long as it is done in a sustainable way," Tusk said.Data published by EU statistics office Eurostat's indicates that imported gas accounted for 65.8 percent in 2012 up from 63.4 percent in 2009. Of this, Russian gas accounts for 30 percent, up from 22 percent in 2010.Most European energy policy making is currently in the hands of national governments.

Abbas says talks can continue if settlement building stops-PA president says security cooperation between Israel, Palestinians will not be impacted if negotiations collapse-By Elhanan Miller April 22, 2014, 5:06 pm 13The Times of Israel

RAMALLAH – The Palestinians will extend negotiations with Israel by nine months on condition that Israel agrees to immediately commence discussing the borders of the future Palestinian state and freeze settlement construction, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said on Tuesday. He stressed, however, that security coordination with Israel will continue regardless of the negotiations’ outcome.Speaking to Israeli journalists in Ramallah on Tuesday afternoon, Abbas said he had rejected an Israeli demand to deport a number of pre-Oslo Palestinian prisoners — some of whom hold Israeli citizenship — expected to be released by Israel as part of a commitment to US Secretary of State John Kerry.Wishing the Israelis a happy Passover in Hebrew, Abbas said that the sole Palestinian demand for extending negotiations beyond their original April 29 deadline, following the release of the remaining 30 pre-Oslo Palestinian prisoners still jailed by Israel, is that Israel agree to discuss borders for a period which will not exceed three months, during which time Israel will entirely freeze construction of Jewish homes beyond the Green Line.“If Israel believes in the two-state solution, let us sit at the table and see where Israel is. In other words, let’s define the borders,” Abbas said. The Palestinians have repeatedly bemoaned Israel’s reported refusal to present any maps delineating its borders throughout the recent negotiation rounds, which began in late July 2013.
Abbas said that Israel had not agreed to freeze settlement construction to extend negotiations, but only to freeze planning [of new housing projects] and new tenders.“We do not accept this. It is dishonest because of thousands of settlements currently in the pipeline not included in the tenders and planning. Give us this demand, and we are prepared to discuss borders and the other final status issues for an additional nine months.”Abbas said he “did not want to continue the conflict [with Israel] for eternity, but rather end the conflict in a respectable agreement which will fulfill the minimal Palestinian demands for justice. “Any other agreement,” Abbas warned, “could lead to a new outburst of violence in two years, which we do not want.”In his largely conciliatory appeal to the Israeli public in which he quoted former Israeli prime minister David Ben-Gurion, Abbas said he did not seek to isolate Israel in the international arena through unilateral bids to join UN treaties and agreements, but rather reach an honorable peace agreement establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel.“We do not want to isolate Israel, nor do we want to alienate it from its immediate surroundings. We want to end a painful episode in the history of our nations and turn a new leaf.”
Regardless of the outcome of negotiations, Abbas insisted, Palestinians would not stop security coordination with Israel “as long as I’m around.”“I do not consider security coordination with Israel to be shameful,” Abbas said, referring to statements by Hamas officials claiming exactly that. “I consider this coordination obligatory. It is obligatory whether or not negotiations exist, whether they succeed or whether they fail.”He also condemned the recent killing of Israeli police officer Baruch Mizrachi on April 14.“This is a mistake and a crime. Sixty Palestinians were also killed, that’s a mistake and a crime. We hope it will not repeat itself.”Responding to reports that he would dismantle the PA should talks fall apart, forcing Israel to reclaim responsibility for all aspects of Palestinian civil life in the West Bank, including health, education and even security, Abbas denied that he intended to dissolve the administration, but presented the collapse of the PA as the inevitable outcome of Israel’s policies towards it.“If Israel intends to continue its policy towards the PA … the PA will have no authority, because all political, logistical and economic prerogatives will have been stripped from it,” Abbas said. “If Israel continues like this, let it come and take [responsibility] for the PA.”The press conference came as Palestine Liberation Officials were headed to Gaza to discuss reconciliation with Hamas. Abbas refused to accept the choice voiced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu between reconciliation with the Islamist group and negotiations with Israel.“Hamas and us are one people,” he said. “Political differences exist within Israel … but I deal with one man named Benjamin Netanyahu, the elected prime minister of Israel. Therefore, When I turn to Hamas, that does not mean I’m turning my back on Israel.”Responding to a question by The Times of Israel as to whether he asked Israel to absorb a portion of the 600,000 Palestinian refugees fleeing fighting in Syria, Abbas said Israel agreed to allow those Palestinians into the West Bank and Gaza on condition that they explicitly renounce their right to return to Israel proper, a demand he dismissed.“Today there is talk with Egypt that some 100 refugees living there could enter Gaza without Israel’s agreement, through the tunnels. There are 1,500 tunnels … it is possible that if Egypt agrees, they will return to Gaza.”

Liberman: Israel won’t stop PA if it opts to dismantle self-Foreign minister says Jerusalem interested in negotiations no matter what, doesn’t expect Jewish Home coalition defection-By Raphael Ahren April 22, 2014, 4:58 pm 2-The Times of Israel

Israel will not interfere should Ramallah choose to dismantle the Palestinian Authority, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman said Tuesday, addressing reported threats that the Palestinians would collapse the 20-year-old administration should peace talks fail.Liberman said Israel was willing to continue negotiating a final-status peace agreement, but slammed the PA for making new demands and issuing threats.“It’s their business; we don’t intend to get involved, in either direction,” Liberman said during a press conference at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem when asked about reports that Palestinian officials were mulling taking down the PA in case the peace talks ended with no result.“They’re grownups, and whatever they decide — we’re ready for every scenario. We’re also ready for negotiations. We’re willing to negotiate in Jerusalem, in Ramallah, New York, London, or Vienna. But we need readiness from the other party. It not possible to come with new threats every day — that’s not how you negotiate. Therefore we’re open to every development, to any options, and much depends on the other side.”A top Palestinian official on Tuesday denied reports about PA President Mahmoud Abbas considering dismantling the PA, which were first reported earlier this week by Israeli daily Yedioth Aharonot.Liberman on Tuesday also dispelled fears of an imminent coalition crisis and new elections that could follow the resignation of the Jewish Home party in case Israel released more Palestinian prisoners to extend the peace talks beyond their April 29 deadline. The party’s chairman, Economy Minister Naftali Bennett, has threatened to leave the coalition if Jerusalem went ahead with the release of Palestinian security prisoners.“There is absolutely no chance that Jewish Home is leaving the coalition,” Liberman said. “I am sure about that. And there’s no need to create a connection between statements to reality on the ground. I wouldn’t take these threats of our friend Naftali Bennett to leave the coalition too seriously.”Speaking to reporters at joint press conference with Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz, who is currently visiting Israel, Liberman restated his criticism of European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who last week condemned the Israeli decision to declare an area near the Etzion bloc south of Bethlehem as state land and approve a new Jewish settlement in the southern city of Hebron, a statement from her office said.On Friday, Liberman had mocked Ashton for criticizing Israel over these matters while apparently neglecting atrocities committed in other places across the Middle East. On the same day that Ashton condemned Israel, “874 people [were] killed in terrorist acts all around us,” Liberman said. “But she condemned the purchasing of a house in Hebron. I think it’s a really very unbalanced approached to the Middle East problem… We expect more understanding and more support [for] the only small democracy in this huge ocean of terror and bloodshed.”

Palestinians deny considering dismantling PA if talks fail-US envoy Martin Indyk to meet Tuesday with Israeli and Palestinian negotiating teams in Jerusalem-By AFP and Times of Israel staff April 22, 2014, 2:15 pm 10
Palestinians officials on Tuesday played down reported threats to dismantle the Western-backed Palestinian Authority, which is Israel’s interlocutor, if US-sponsored peace talks remain deadlocked.“No Palestinian is speaking of an initiative to dismantle the Palestinian Authority,” chief negotiator Saeb Erekat told AFP. ”But Israel’s actions have annulled all the legal, political, security, economic and operational aspects of the prerogatives of the Palestinian Authority.”Senior PA official and Fatah Central Committee member Jibril Rajoub said publicity surrounding the threat to dismantle the PA was “nonsense” and the prospect was unfeasible. He told Israel Radio that negotiations should continue, and said that even the radical Hamas movement, with which Fatah has been seeking to mend ties, has a “pragmatic wing willing to live with a Palestinian state along the 1967 lines.”Palestinian negotiators had warned that they may hand responsibility for governing the West Bank back to Israel if peace talks remain stalled, a senior Palestinian official said Sunday. He said the Palestinians had told US peace envoy Martin Indyk that unless Israel releases Palestinian prisoners as agreed and freezes settlement building, they could dismantle the Authority, which was set up following the Oslo peace accords in the 1990s and was intended to pave the way toward the establishment of an independent state.US State Department spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki criticized the threat as “extreme” and warned that any such move would affect American aid to the Palestinians. On the Israeli side, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the PA of endangering the peace process. The warning from the Palestinians came ahead of planned unity talks between the Palestine Liberation Organisation, which like the PA is headed by Mahmoud Abbas, and the Islamist Hamas movement ruling Gaza, which rejects any peace talks with Israel.“The Palestinian Authority, which yesterday was talking about its dismantlement, is today talking about unity with Hamas,” Netanyahu said.“They need to decide… Do they want to dismantle themselves or to unite with Hamas? When they want peace (with Israel) they should let us know.”Indyk is to take part in a fresh attempt to salvage the peace talks at a meeting in Jerusalem later on Tuesday with Israeli and Palestinian negotiators, according to a Palestinian source.

Archaeologist claims to find chisel used to build Western Wall-Metal tool likely dropped by laborer working on higher sections, says Eli Shukron; Antiquities Authority still checking find-By Marissa Newman April 22, 2014, 7:57 pm-The Times of Israel
An Israeli archaeologist claims to have found an ancient chisel used in the construction of the Western Wall some 2,000 years ago.It was unearthed by archaeologists near the Davidson Center, south of the prayer site, Haaretz reported Tuesday, noting that the Israel Antiquities Authority has not publicized the finding because it first wants to study the tool and other relevant evidence more closely. The 15 cm metal tool was discovered over a year ago in excavations headed by Eli Shukron of the IAA.Shukron, who has been digging in the area for 19 years, maintained that the chisel is authentic, and was likely buried by rubble after a laborer working on the higher sections of the wall dropped it and failed to retrieve it.“I have no doubt that this belong to the period of the Kotel’s construction,” Shukron said. “We found it by the foundations of the Kotel, about six meters beneath the main road of Jerusalem during the Second Temple era.”The chisel was buried under the debris formed by the masonry work done on site, he said. Unlike some of the larger stones on the wall’s bottom levels, many of the wall’s bricks were brought from far-off quarries and placed at the site by workers.“People pray and kiss these holy stones every day,” he said. “But someone carved them, chiseled them, someone put them in place. They were laborers, people with tools. Today, for the first time, we can touch one of their chisels.”Shukron pointed to coins and ceramics discovered near the same area as proof of the tool’s antiquity — and claimed that these findings indicate that the wall was not built under Herod’s reign, as previously believed, but rather was a later construction.Shukron has worked on excavations in the area for 19 years, alongside Professor Ronny Reich. Together, the two worked to excavate the Gihon spring, the Shiloah Pool, the Second Temple Road, and Jerusalem’s main water drainage tunnel. The IAA said it would not comment on the find until tests on the chisel and other findings were completed.

Dismantle the Palestinian Authority? Not likely-Despite his repeated threat, Abbas knows that chaos, violence and economic catastrophe would follow such a drastic move-By Avi Issacharoff April 22, 2014, 8:56 am 30-The Times of Israel

At least three Palestinian threats have become a recurrent ritual, repeating themselves every few months: (1) the resignation of Mahmoud Abbas from the presidency of the Palestinian Authority; (2) the resignation of top Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat from his post (a step he has already taken countless times throughout his illustrious career, and yet there he remains); and (3) the dissolution of the Palestinian Authority. So first it should be made clear: A scenario in which the Palestinian Authority is dissolved is possible, but its probability is low, very low. The discussion in recent days over the possibility of the PA being dismantled has been held mainly in the Israeli media, with little to no presence in the discourse of the Palestinian media and among PA leaders.A story did appear Sunday night in the Palestinian Ma’an news agency, which of course referenced the original Yedioth Ahronoth article on the issue at the start of this week. The Ma’an report quoted anonymous Palestinian officials who vehemently asserted that the dissolution idea was being “seriously” considered by the Palestinian leadership in the event that negotiations are not extended. The same officials claimed that “these are not empty threats or hollow talk.” But it is just insistent statements that make it clear that these are in fact only fanciful statements, at least at this stage. It is hard to say where the latest threats originated. Israeli officials who seek to alarm the Israeli public over the possibility of negotiations failing could have been behind them, or it could have been Abbas’s emissaries.PA Religious Affairs Minister Mahmoud al-Habash, a confidant of Abbas, hinted several days ago during a conversation with Israeli journalists in Ramallah that the option of disbanding the PA was under consideration and could even take place by the end of 2014.And yet, this is not a realistic option. Yes, it is a step that practically begs to be taken by Abbas in the face of stalled negotiations and in light of the economic woes faced by the Palestinian government. And yes, this threat will be used repeatedly in the coming days as we approach the end of the nine-month negotiations timeframe (April 29 is only a week away). It is almost a “doomsday weapon” against Israel, a clear threat that creates deterrence in Israeli public opinion. But there are many more steps that would be considered by the Palestinians before they entertain such an extreme option. The Ma’an news agency itself noted in its report that there are many in the PA who oppose such a plan of action. And there are quite a few reasons for this.Abbas, during all the years of the Second Intifada and afterwards, made it clear that he is opposed to violent action. Abbas understands that dismantling the PA would lead to chaos that would cause countless acts of violence, not only against Israel but also within Palestinian society itself. For Abbas, dissolving the Palestinian Authority’s mechanisms is not an option, because Hamas is a far more severe threat than Israel. The absence of a functioning PA security apparatus would increase Hamas’s power and severely imperil the life of every PA and Fatah official, without exception. In addition, it is impossible to ignore the economic considerations. PA officials benefit financially from the existence of the PA and, in addition to their salary, enjoy many economic bonuses that come with their jobs — via connections with Israel, involvement in economic projects, and so on. Another equally important consideration that totally prevents deliberations on the real possibility of dismantling the Authority is the impact this would have on the future of the 150,000 PA workers and Fatah members, in the West Bank and in Gaza, who receive salaries each month and drive the Palestinian economy.Getting rid of the PA would condemn close to a million people not only to unemployment, but also to poverty and potentially hunger. Abbas doesn’t wish to bring chaos to the territories, and it is clear to him that an act such as dismantling the PA would put Palestinian cities back a decade — something no one on the Palestinian side wants.

US: Dissolution of PA would have ‘grave implications’-State Deptartment says move — which Abbas has reportedly threatened — would drastically alter US-Palestinian relations-By Yoel Goldman April 22, 2014, 3:54 am-The Times of Israel

The US described the dissolution of the Palestinian Authority — as reportedly threatened by President Mahmoud Abbas and other top Palestinian officials — as an “extreme step” that could fundamentally alter relations between Washington and Ramallah.State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki told reporters Monday that she was aware of reports that Abbas was considering canceling the 1993 Oslo Accords, disbanding his security forces and transferring responsibility of the Palestinian population in the West Bank to Israel, saying the move would have “grave implications.”“A great deal of effort has gone into building Palestinian institutions by Palestinians as well as the international community, and it would certainly not be in the interests of the Palestinian people for all of that to be lost. We — the United States has put millions of dollars into this effort. It would obviously have very serious implications for our relationship, including our assistance going forward,” she said.Psaki emphasized that the US was focused on extending negotiations between the parties, which have all but collapsed in recent weeks. She had no comment on reconciliation efforts between the PA and Hamas, said to be in full swing once again.A senior Hamas leader based in Egypt was in Gaza earlier Monday for talks aimed at reaching a reconciliation agreement between the two rival Palestinian groups.Moussa Abu Marzouk met with Hamas leaders in the Strip ahead of a visit by Fatah officials on Tuesday. Hamas freed 10 Fatah prisoners before the meetings as a good-will gesture.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cynically referred to the renewed Palestinian reconciliation efforts during holiday festivities in Or Akiva, just north of Netanya, where he was participating in a traditional Maimouna.“Today we see the Palestinian Authority, which yesterday spoke about disbanding, talking with Hamas about unity. They should decide whether they want to disband or have unity, and when they want peace, they should let us know,” he said.Netanyahu added, “on our holiday today, our enemies fired missiles at our communities and our policy is clear — to respond quickly and strongly. We strike at whoever comes to attack us. This is what we have done and this is what we will do.”AP contributed to this report.
