IS THE LAKE OF FIRE A LITERAL BLACK HOLE IN SPACE-I BELIEVE SO

KING JESUS IS COMING FOR US ANY TIME NOW. THE RAPTURE. BE PREPARED TO GO.

JUDE 6-7,10,11,13
6  And the (DEMONIC) angels which kept not their first estate,(BUT HAD SEX WITH HUMAN WOMEN) but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.(TO BE CAST INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE FOREVER)
7  Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication,(GAY SEX) and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
10  But these (FALSE PREACHERS) speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.
11  Woe unto them! (FALSE PREACHERS) for they have gone in the way of Cain,(MURDER) and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward,(GREED OF MONEY) and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
13  Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

REVELATION 20:10,14-15
10  And the devil that deceived them (PEOPLE OF EARTH TO TAKE THE CHIP IMPLANT) was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
14  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

MARK 9:48
48  Where their worm dieth not,(YOU HAVE A NEVER DYING BODY IN THE LAKE OF FIRE) and the fire is not quenched.(YOU CAN LITERALY FOREVER FEEL THE BURNING OF THE FIRE ON YOUR NEVER DYING BODY)

MATTHEW 25:41
41  Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand,(ISRAEL HATERS-GODLESS) Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:(LAKE OF FIRE)

BETWEEN OBAMA THREATENING SYRIA WITH BOMBING IT.AND THEN GOING BACK ON HIS WORDS AND NOT BOMBING ASSAD.AND NOW THE SHUTDOWN OF THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT.THIS COULD BE THE FINAL 2 STRAWS THAT BREAK AMERICAS WORLD LEADERSHIP ROLE.IF THESE 2 EVENTS ARE WHAT BRINGS AMERICA TO ITS KNEES (LIITERALLY)-WE KNOW BY THE BIBLE THAT THE EUROPEAN UNION WILL STEP INTO THE LEADERSHIP ROLE.AND WILL ULTIMATELY FOR THE LAST 7 YEARS OF THE TRIBULATION PERIOD HAVE THE WORLD LEADERSHIP ROLE AND WILL IMPLIMENT THE MICROCHIP IMPLANT SYSTEM ON ALL OF EARTHS CITIZENS OR BE KILLED IN THIS MANDATORY DICTATORSHIP.SO WE KNOW THAT ALL PEOPLE ON EARTH WILL BE FORCED TO TAKE THE CHIP IMPLANT AND GIVE THEIR ALLEGIENCE TO THE EUROPEAN UNION WORLD DICTATOR OR POLITICAL LEADER.IF YOU REJECT THIS MICROCHIP IMPLANT AND FOLLOW JESUS INSTEAD.YOU WILL BE BEHEADED FOR YOUR FAITH.BUT YOU WILL LIVE FOREVER BACK ON EARTH WITH JESUS.BUT IF YOU GIVE YOUR ALLEGIENCE TO THE EU WORLD DICTATOR AND ACCEPT HIS MICROCHIP IMPLANT-YOU WILL BE ABLE TO BUY AND SELL.BUT YOU ARE DOOMNED TO HELL FOREVER.FOR DENING JESUS AND ACCEPTING THE EU WORLD DICTATOR AS YOUR GOD INSTEAD.SO WE SEE THAT ACCEPTING JESUS IS BEING BEHEADED.BUT THEN WE LIVE FOREVER ON EARTH WITH JESUS.BUT ACCEPTING THE EUROPEAN WORLD LEADER ONLY LASTS FOR THE 7 YEAR PEACE TREATY OR TRIBULATION PERIOD.THEN THE WORLD DICTATOR-THE FALSE PROPHET-AND ALL WHO ACCEPT THE MICROCHIP IMPLANT TO GIVE THEIR ALLEGIENCE TO THE WORLD LEADER GET THROWN LITERALLY INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE AT THE END OF THE 7 YEAR TRIBULATION PERIOD.AS JESUS LITERALLY-BODILY RETURNS TO JERUSALEM FROM HEAVEN TO RULE FOREVER FROM HIS THRONE OR DAVIDS IN JERUSALEM.AND JESUS LITERALLY THROWS THE WORLD DICTATOR-THE FALSE PROPHET AND ALL THEIR FOLLOWERS WHO TAKE THEIR MARK OR MICROCHIP IMPLANT IN THEIR RIGHT HAND OR FOREHEAD.AND THROW THEM ALL INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE FOREVER AND EVER.AND JESUS THEN RULES FOREVER FROM THE WORLD CAPITAL-JERUSALEM ON EARTH.THIS PEACEFUL KINGDOM UNDER JESUS'S RULE WILL GO ON FOREVER-NEVER ENDING.SO WE CHRISTIANS MIGHT THINK WE GET THE SHORT END OF THE STICK FOR NOW.BUT IN THE END WE GET JESUS AND RULE WITH OUR GOD AND KING AND TRUE MESSIAH FOREVER.WHILE THE WORLD DICTATOR-THE FALSE RELIGIOUS LEADER AND THEIR FOLLOWERS BURN IN TORMENTS FOREVER LITERALLY IN THE LAKE OF FIRE IN SPACE SOMEWHERE.IN A GIGANTIC BLACK HOLE I BELIEVE. SINCE DEATH AND HELL WILL BE CAST INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE.THAT MEANS HELL WILL NO LONGER BE IN THE CENTER OF THE EARTH.AND SINCE THE BIBLE DOES SAY THE GODLESS PREACHERS GO TO THE BLACKEST OF DARKNESS.I TRUELY BELIEVE THAT THE LAKE OF FIRE IS ONE GIGANTIC BLACK HOLE.WERE ONCE YOUR IN IT-YOU CAN NOT ESCAPE.AND THE HEAT IS LITERALLY EMMENCE IN A BLACK HOLE.SO A PERSON COULD BE LITERALLY BURNED FOREVER IN TORMENTS LIKE THE BIBLE SAYS.AND I BELIEVE THIS BLACK HOLE WILL BE PUT SOMEWHERE WAY OUT IN THE OUTER DARKNESS OF SPACE.SO THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY THESE PEOPLE IN THIS BLACK HOLE COULD EVER COME NEAR THE EARTH EVER AGAIN.AS JESUS RULES FROM HIS THRONE FOREVER IN JERUSALEM.

A Black Hole Mystery Wrapped in a Firewall Paradox

Falling Bodies
Black holes are the most extreme predictions of Einstein’s theory, which describes how matter and energy warp the geometry of space and time the way a heavy sleeper causes a mattress to sag. Too much matter and energy in one place could cause space to sag so far that the matter inside it would disappear as if behind a magician’s cloak, collapsing endlessly to a point of infinite density known as a singularity. Einstein thought that idea was ridiculous when it was pointed out to him at the time, in 1916, but today astronomers agree that the universe is speckled with such dark monsters, including beasts lurking in the hearts of most galaxies that are millions and billions of time more massive than the Sun. Many of them resulted from the collapse of dead stars.General relativity is based on what Einstein later called his “happiest thought,” that a freely falling person would not feel his weight. It is known simply as the equivalence principle; it says that empty space looks the same everywhere and to everyone. One consequence of this principle is that an astronaut would not feel anything special happening when he fell through the point of no return, known as the event horizon, into a black hole. Like a bungee jumper, he would feel weightless then and all the way until he hit the bottom, which could take seconds or years depending on how big the hole was, and he would be stretched like a noodle by tidal forces and then crushed into a speck. At the event horizon there would be “no drama,” in the lexicon — at least in the physical sense, as opposed to the intellectual trauma of knowing you were not ever going home. Things or people went in, they got crushed to infinite density and disappeared. That was the traditional view of black holes.Things got more interesting, however, in 1974 when Stephen Hawking, the British cosmologist, stunned the world by showing that when the paradoxical quantum laws that describe subatomic behavior were taken into account, black holes would leak particles and radiation, and in fact eventually explode, although for a hole the mass of a star it would take longer than the age of the universe. This was a breakthrough in combining general relativity, the gravity that curves the cosmos, with quantum theory, which describes the microscopic quirkiness inside it, but there was a big hitch. Dr. Hawking concluded that the radiation coming from a black hole would be completely random, conveying no information about what had fallen into it. When the black hole finally exploded, all that information would be erased from the universe forever. “God not only plays dice with the universe,” Dr. Hawking said in 1976 in a riposte to Einstein’s famous doubts about the randomness of quantum theory, “he sometimes throws them where they can’t be seen.”Particle physicists cried foul, saying that this violated a basic tenet of modern science and of quantum theory, that information is always preserved. From the material in the smoke and flames of a burning book, for example, one could figure out whether it was the Bible or the Kama Sutra; the same should be true of the fizz and pop of black holes, these physicists argued. A 30-year controversy ensued. It was front-page news in 2004 when Dr. Hawking finally said that he had been wrong, and paid off a bet.

The Firewall Paradox
Now, however, some physicists say that Dr. Hawking might have conceded too soon. “He had good reason,” said Dr. Polchinski, “but he gave up for the wrong reason.” Nobody, he explained, had yet figured out exactly how information does get out of a black hole. That was the task that four researchers based in Santa Barbara — Ahmed Almheiri, Donald Marolf, and James Sully, all from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Dr. Polchinski of the Kavli Institute set themselves a year ago. The team (called AMPS, after their initials) found, to their surprise, that following the known laws of physics would lead to a contradiction, the firewall paradox.Their calculations showed that having information flowing out of a black hole was incompatible with having an otherwise smooth Einsteinian space-time at its boundary, the event horizon. In its place would be a discontinuity in the vacuum that would manifest itself as energetic particles — a “firewall” — lurking just inside the black hole.Being incinerated as you entered a black hole would certainly contradict Einstein’s dictum of no drama. If this were true, you would in fact die long before the bungee-jumping ride ever got anywhere close to the bottom. The existence of a firewall would mean that the horizon, which according to general relativity is just empty space, is a special place, pulling the rug out from under Einstein’s principle, his theory of gravity, and modern cosmology, which is based on general relativity. This presented the scientists with what Dr. Bousso calls the “menu from hell.” If the firewall argument was right, one of three ideas that lie at the heart and soul of modern physics, had to be wrong. Either information can be lost after all; Einstein’s principle of equivalence is wrong; or quantum field theory, which describes how elementary particles and forces interact, is wrong and needs fixing. Abandoning any one of these would be revolutionary or appalling or both.Dr. Polchinski was very surprised by the result. “It seemed like such a simple argument that it must have been considered and resolved earlier,” he said. After trying to kill it by talking to colleagues in Santa Barbara, he e-mailed Dr. Susskind of Stanford, an old hand at black holes and information, expecting that Dr. Susskind would point out the error.“But after a week or two of disbelief,” Dr. Polchinski said, “he was as confused as we” were.Dr. Susskind said: “The arguments are very clear. Nobody knew what to make of them.”

Quantum Vows
The firewall argument hinges on one of the weirder aspects of quantum physics, the action called entanglement. As Einstein, Boris Podolsky and Nathan Rosen pointed out in 1935, quantum theory predicts that a pair of particles can be connected in such a way that measuring a property of one — its direction of spin, say — will immediately affect the results of measuring the other one, even if it is light-years away.
Einstein used this “spooky action at a distance” to suggest the absurdity of quantum mechanics, but such experiments are now done in labs every day. You can’t use it to send a message faster than light, because the correlation shows up only when the two experimenters get together and compare their respective results. But it plays a crucial role in quantum computing and cryptography — and, it turns out, in explaining how information encoded in the Hawking radiation gets out of a black hole.Consider two particles (let’s call them Bob and Alice) that have been radiated by a black hole. Bob left it eons ago, as it began leaking radiation; quantum entanglement theory dictates that in order for the black hole to keep track of what information it has been transmitting, Bob out there has to be entangled with Alice, who just left. But that scenario competes with another kind of entanglement, between particles on either side of the event horizon, the black hole’s boundary. If space is indeed smooth, as Einstein postulated, and if quantum field theory is correct, Alice must be entangled with another particle, Ted, who is just inside the black hole. But quantum theory forbids promiscuous entanglements. In the language of quantum information, Alice can marry either Bob or Ted, but not both, even if the second marriage happens inside the black hole where most of us can’t see it.
Alice should have a consistent explanation of the universe, Dr. Polchinski explained, “just as we ourselves must, even though we are inside the cosmic horizon.”And so smoke pours from the AMPS group’s computers and has continued to pour from the particle accelerators of the mind, fueled by coffee and blackboard chalk this last year. Firewall or not? Does information live or die? Is Einstein at last wrong? Experiments would not help, even if we had a black hole in a laboratory, because the putative firewall, if it exists, would be just inside where it can’t be seen safely. At a firewall workshop this winter, John Preskill, a Caltech theorist who won a bet with Dr. Hawking on the randomness of information from a black hole, declared that physicists were back where they had been 40 years ago.

The Menu From Hell
Dr. Bousso said his first response to the AMPS paper was, “Come on, you gotta be kidding me.” He added, “Everybody goes through their stages of grief.”About 40 papers have been devoted to firewalls in the last year, and more are on the way. Daniel Harlow of Princeton and Patrick Hayden of McGill University suggested that the issue might be moot; the computation necessary to verify that Alice and Bob are entangled could take longer than the age of the universe and the black hole would evaporate in the meantime, making it impossible ever to go inside and experience the contradiction.Failing that, which of the items on Dr. Bousso’s “menu from hell” might have to go depends on who is speaking. In some ways, it would be easiest to give up quantum field theory, which describes what empty space should look like, in the case of someone who is being accelerated, perhaps by gravity pulling him down a black hole. After all, quantum theory, with “virtual” particles flitting in and out of existence and spooky entanglements is already strange. On the other hand, as Ed Witten of the Institute for Advanced Study, who has so far watched the firewall debate from a distance, said, “Quantum field theory is how the world works.” It had a major triumph just a year ago, when the Higgs boson, a subatomic particle responsible for the mass of other subatomic particles, was discovered after a 40-year search, at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.Meanwhile, physicists have more reason than ever to think that information cannot be lost. A celebrated 1997 paper by Juan M. Maldacena of the Institute for Advanced Study describes nature as a kind of hologram, in which the information about what happens inside a volume of three-dimensional space, for example, is encoded in quantum equations on its two-dimensional boundary, the way a 3-D image is encoded on the face of your bank card.Mark Van Raamsdonk, a young theorist at the University of British Columbia, likes to use a spookier analogy to describe this, namely the chip that controls a Matrix-like video game. (Feel free to insert your own woo-woo music here.)
The discovery that the information needed to describe what happens in some volume is proportional to the area enclosing that volume is the strangest and most far-reaching consequence of Dr. Hawking’s discovery that black holes explode, and is still wreathed in mystery.Dr. Maldacena’s universe is often portrayed like a can of soup, in which galaxies, black holes, gravity, stars and so forth, including us, are the soup inside, while the information to describe them resides, like a label, on the outside. Think of it as gravity in a can. The equations that represent the label are deterministic and there is no room in them for information to be lost, implying that information in the universe inside is also preserved.Which leaves the firewall as the only way to stop the illegal marriage of Alice and Ted, Dr. Polchinski said — an odious solution because it contravenes the basic principle of general relativity. He pointed out, however, that in a sense physicists had already thrown Einstein under the bus. In Dr. Maldacena’s holographic universe, considered to be the last word on quantum gravity, the dimensions of space-time do not seem to matter. “We’ve known for years that space-time is not fundamental,” Dr. Polchinski said. “General relativity is not fundamental.”He went on, “space-time is emergent. Gravity is emergent. Maybe sometimes it doesn’t always emerge.”

Einstein’s Revenge
But if space and time and gravity are not fundamental, what is? Recently a new way of solving the firewall conundrum and of answering that haunting question has attracted a lot of attention, although no consensus. Dr. Maldacena and Dr. Susskind have proposed that Einstein could come to his own rescue via one more far-out notion in modern physics: wormholes. In 1935 Einstein and Rosen found that, mathematically anyway, black holes could come in pairs connected by shortcuts through space — then known as Einstein-Rosen bridges, now known as wormholes. A wormhole would not be traversable by any means we now know about, ruling out time travel and other violations of relativity, despite the dreams of science fiction writers and interstellar pioneers. In 2010, Dr. Van Raamsdonk of British Columbia suggested that such wormholes were the geometric manifestations of quantum entanglement. After all, neither of these phenomena, which seemed to transcend local space, could be used for sending direct messages. Brian Swingle at M.I.T. had made a similar suggestion a year earlier. In effect, what these theorists were saying was that without the phenomenon of entanglement, space-time would have no structure at all. Or as Dr. Maldacena put it, “Spooky action at a distance creates space-time.” If true, this insight would be a step toward a longtime dream of theorists of explaining how space and time emerge from some more basic property of reality, in this case, bits of quantum information. The theorist John Wheeler, of Princeton, who had coined the term “black hole,” called this concept “it from bit.”Taking this idea seriously, Dr. Maldacena and Dr. Susskind proposed that a similar kind of wormhole arrangement existed between the black hole in the AMPS case and its Hawking radiation. Instead of a tunnel snaking through hyperspace and opening at the maw of another black hole, the wormhole would split into a zillion spaghetti-like strands ending on each of the pieces of Hawking radiation. That would mean that Bob, the Hawking particle in the cartoon version of the theory mentioned above, might be light years away from the event horizon, but he would still be connected to the interior of the black hole, as if there were a doorway in New Jersey that opened up into a basement in Manhattan.Because of this wormhole connection, Dr. Maldacena explained, “Ted and Bob are the same.” So the result is sort of like the happy ending of one of those screwball romantic comedies that involve mistaken identity and the handsome vagabond turns out to be the prince in disguise; Alice can marry Ted who is really Bob and the bonds of matrimony extend smoothly across the edge of the black hole.In that case, then, there is no firewall, no contradiction in the laws of physics. And Einstein survives to fight another day.“If right, this is clearly a major insight into gravity and quantum mechanics,” an enthusiastic Dr. Susskind said. “I think of it as a very dramatic thing,” he said, noting that long after Einstein’s career was presumed to be over, at 56, “he produced these ideas” of entanglement and wormholes having no idea they were connected.“The man keeps giving.”But Einstein is not safe yet.“At first whiff,” Dr. Preskill wrote in a recent blog post, the Maldacena-Susskind conjecture “may smell fresh and sweet, but it will have to ripen on the shelf for a while.” He added, “For now, wormhole lovers can relish the possibilities.”

Entangled Theories
Dr. Maldacena and Dr. Susskind admit that the wormhole hypothesis is still a work in progress. Few of their colleagues are convinced yet that it has been formulated in sufficient detail, let alone that it can solve the firewall paradox. “All I can say,” Dr. Susskind said in an e-mail on the eve of a firewall workshop next week at the Kavli Institute where wormholes and everything else will surely be scrutinized, “is that no one has a completely solid case and that certainly includes me. Time will tell.”Dr. Polchinski said, “My current thinking is that all the arguments that we are having are the kind of arguments that you make when you don’t have a theory.” We need a more complete theory of gravity, he concluded.“Maybe ‘space-time from entanglement’ is the right place to start,” he wrote. “I am not sure.”Dr. Bousso, who has been e-mailing with Dr. Maldacena, is skeptical that the wormholes will eliminate firewalls. “My own view is that it’s time to move on, accept, and actually understand firewalls,” he said. After all, he added, there’s no principle of nonviolence in the universe, except for Einstein’s equivalence principle, which says the black hole’s horizon is not a special place. But maybe it is, after all.Meanwhile, Dr. Bousso said, the present debate had raised his estimation, “by another few notches,” of the “stupendous magnitude” of Dr. Hawking’s original discovery of the information paradox. The firewall paradox,” he said, “tells us that the conceptual cost of getting information back out of a black hole is even more revolutionary than most of us had believed.”A version of this article appeared in print on August 13, 2013, on page D1 of the New York edition with the headline: Einstein and the Black Hole.

Israelis unite in grief over Yosef’s death

Controversial views and disagreements of past take backseat to praise for rabbi’s Torah genius

October 7, 2013, 3:52 pm 0-The Times of Israel
Figures from across the political and religious spectrums expressed condolences over the death of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef Monday, playing down his sometimes polarizing statements and praising his encyclopedic knowledge of Jewish law.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement calling Yosef “one of the most important Jewish legal authorities of our generation.”“Rabbi Ovadia was a Torah and halacha giant, and a guide to tens of thousands,” Netanyahu said. “He worked tirelessly to glorify the Israeli heritage, and his decrees took into consideration the changes in time and the renewing situation in Israel.”President Shimon Peres, who met with Yosef many times, including a visit in the hours before the rabbi’s death, was to eulogize Yosef at his funeral later Monday.Yosef, an outspoken rabbi who combined religious and political leadership into a role as one of the most powerful religious figures in Israel’s history, died at 93.Vocal and active even as he ailed in recent years, Yosef was hospitalized repeatedly as his condition worsened.Chief Rabbi David Lau joined in expressing condolences to the family, saying that “we knew the goodness of his heart and his love of Torah and of others. He was a caring father to the people of Israel. We have suffered a huge loss.”Yosef was often called the outstanding Sephardi rabbinical authority of the century. His prominence helped boost the confidence of his community, which makes up roughly half of Israel’s population but was long impoverished and faced discrimination by Ashkenazi — or European — Jews who traditionally dominated Israel’s government and religious institution.Yosef parlayed his religious authority into political power, founding Shas, a party representing Sephardi Jews that became a kingmaker in several government coalitions.Rabbi and politician Haim Amsalem, who had a public falling out with Shas, said upon learning of Yosef’s death that the rabbi “was always a man of the Torah,” adding that “his status never changed for me… I always made sure to treat him respectfully… I greatly appreciated him.”Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein also spoke highly of the late rabbi, saying “Rabbi Ovadia Yosef was a great leader, singular in his generation and admired by tens of thousands of the people of Israel. He always stood by the weak and the downtrodden, and his decrees lit up the way for a whole generation and raised the beam of Sepharadi Judaism.”Finance Minister Yair Lapid, a frequent critic of ultra-Orthodox politicians, sent Yesh Atid’s condolences to the rabbi’s family.“Yosef was one of molders of the Israeli Chief Rabbinate and one of the greatest arbiters of halacha,” he said, adding that “his passing away leaves a gaping hole in the world of Torah.”Education Minister Shai Piron, himself a rabbi, also expressed his grief at the news of Yosef’s death, saying, “The rabbi was one of a kind in his genius, his decrees and his leading of the public. The rabbi left an indelible mark on the history of the people of Israel. His halachic heritage will continue to accompany the people of Israel for many more years to come.”Yosef could often be a controversial figure. He made his biggest political-religious waves by ruling that Israel may give back parts of the West Bank in exchange for peace, invoking the Jewish precept that preserving life is the highest imperative. In an attack on the 1990-1992 government of prime minister Yitzhak Shamir, the rabbi asked, “What have you (Shamir) done to prevent bloodshed?”“The sanctity of life overrules the slogan of not giving up an inch,” he added. The ruling countered decrees by other rabbis, who declared that no Jew had a right to hand over any part of the biblical Land of Israel to a non-Jew for any reason.Gilad Kariv, who heads the Reform movement in Israel, wrote on Facebook that the movement was grieving over Yosef’s death despite “bitter disagreements.”“These are exactly the moments when we remember that the disagreements — bitter and piercing as they may be — are disagreements within the Israeli and Jewish family,” he wrote. “In the halachic understanding and political-communal leadership of Rabbi Yosef, there were no doubtalso important periods of moderation and social sensitivity.”Interior Minister Gideon Sa’ar said that “the people of Israel have lost a great leader today, one of his kind and a powerful leader who influenced Israeli society for many years.”Former Sephardi chief rabbi Shlomo Amar, who had a falling out with Yosef in the run-up to elections for his successor, said the Jewish people “have lost what’s dear to us most,” and asked people to join the funeral Monday evening in Jerusalem.Times of Israel staff and AP contributed to the report.

11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth;(FALSE VATICAN POPE) and he had two horns like a lamb,(JESUS IS THE LAMB OF GOD) and he spake as a dragon.(HES SATANICALLY INSPIRED,HES A CHRISTIAN DEFECTOR FROM THE FAITH)
12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him,(WORLD DICTATOR) and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.(THE WORLD DICTATOR CREATES A FALSE RESURRECTION AND IS CROWNED LEADER OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER).
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

REVELATION 17:1-5,9,15-18
1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication,(VATICAN IN POLITICS) and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman (FALSE CHURCH) was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour,(VATICAN COLOURS)(ANOTHER REASON WE KNOW THE FALSE POPE COMES FROM THE VATICAN) and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.(THE VATICAN IS BUILT ON 7 HILLS OR MOUNTAINS)
15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.(VATICAN-CATHOLICS ALL AROUND THE WORLD OVER 1 BILLION)
16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast,(WORLD DICTATOR) these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

St. Egidio's 2013 International Meeting of Prayer for Peace
St. Egidio's 2013 International Meeting of Prayer for Peace
lisa palmieri billig rome In the 26th year of its international interreligious conferences to which leaders of the world’s major religions are invited as active, vocal participants, the Community of St. Egidio this year managed to gather together in Rome nearly 200 panelists from all areas of the globe. Attended by approximately 5000 people, the three day meeting entitled “The Courage to Hope”, with its 33 panels and its impressive final Peace ceremony on Rome’s Capitol Hill (Campidoglio), saw the largest Jewish participation to date.

Begun in 1987 with a first meeting in Rome aimed at furthering the ground-breaking tradition begun by John Paul II in 1986 when he called the world’s religious leaders to come to Assisi to pray for peace,   the St. Egidio Community annually synergizes the spiritual energies of these leaders in encounters held in different international cities, with a multitude of panel discussions on the most important issues of the day.  Religious leaders from the world’s trouble spots thus have opportunities to share eyewitness reports and in-depth analyses. At the opening ceremony,  Rabbi David Rosen, International Director of Interreligious Affairs for AJC  (the American Jewish Committee) invited St. Egidio to reconvene a multi-faith conference in Jerusalem to follow up on the one held there a decade ago.“Now, more than ever before St. Egidio can serve as an inspiration for politicians” said Rabbi Rosen, “as it sets an example by affirming the Divine Image in people from diverse religions and cultures.”
“In the Middle East in particular”, he holds, “religion must be part of the solution”.In all panels, the international religious representatives took stands against their own extremist factions and condemned the misuse of God’s Name to justify killing and war. It was in this interreligious consensus that many saw a glimmer of hope for the future. The Syrian conflict cast a dark shadow over discussions. A panel on the Middle East Crisis with political, media, diplomatic and religious experts from Italy and the Islamic and Christian Arab world, included Domenico Quirico, “La Stampa’s” correspondent taken captive in Syria and only recently released.Quirico and the other panelists agreed that the international community had waited too long to intervene to help the fledgling forces of democracy of the Arab spring, thus allowing Islamist extremist formations such as Al Qaeda to grow and gain strength. The desperate humanitarian situation in Syria and other Arab countries was described. Mohammad Sammak, a leader of the Christian-Arab dialogue in Lebanon stressed the impellent need to invest in education, pointing out that one third of the Arab world is illiterate, and more money was spent on beauty products than books.  Italian Ambassador Roberto Toscano referred to the “Arab Human Development Reports” to support these conclusions with statistics. Among the nearly 200 international panelists, over a dozen were Jewish leaders and rabbis from Italy, Israel, the U.S., Argentina, Germany and Belgium. They too called for religions to summon their highest spiritual resources to counter the wave of barbaric, evil acts sweeping all over the world today, many of which are committed in the name of religion. The Jewish representatives spoke on many topics.  They included “The Value of Life and Vulnerability” (Oded Wiener, Director General of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel), “Religions respond to violence against Women”  and “The Suffering of Peoples and Paths to Peace” (Rabbi David Rosen), “Old Age as a Blessing” (Riccardo Di Segni, Chief Rabbi of Rome), “Latin America and Pope Francis (Rabbi Abraham Skorka, Buenos Aires, Argentina),” God Loves the Poor”, (Rabbi Israel Singer, Touro University, USA), “Poverty and the Environment: Eco-Sustainability”(Rabbi Shmuel Goldin, President of the Rabbinical Council of America), “The Power of Prayer throughout History”(Rabbi Avichai Apel, Dortmund Germany), “Hope Today” (Lisa Palmieri-Billig, AJC Liaison to the Holy See, Italy), “The Imperative Need of Family” (Riccardo Pacifici, President of the Rome Jewish Community), “God is Mercy” (Rabbi Elia Richetti, President of the Assembly of Rabbis of Italy), “Terror in the name of Religion” (Rabbi Joseph Levi, Chief Rabbi of Florence), “Is Violence Inevitable?” (Jakob Finci, President of the Jewish Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina), “The Courage to Hope” (Sandro di Castro, President of B’nai B’rith, Italy) and finally, Rabbi David Brodman of Savyon, Israel, a Holocaust survivor whose heartfelt  talk at the Aula Magna of the Lateran University as a “Witness to Peace” to 3000 high school (liceo) students in two separate sessions, moved his young audience deeply.Rabbi Brodman, a white-bearded gentleman with a cane, accompanied everywhere by his 14 year old grand-daughter, Tamar, spoke of his early years as a deportee in the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp. His memories reflected the sensibility and suffering of the small child he was then. Recently, he accompanied over 500 university student members of the Communities of Sant’Egidio in Eastern Europe to Auschwitz on a pilgrimage of “Young People against Racism and Anti-Semitism.”

“It is always painful to recall those events” Rabbi Brodman said, “but my friendship with the Community of Sant’Egidio persuaded me to take this step”.  His simple message of peace is contained in the sentence, “We must create a world without violence.”“So many young people came up to me after my conversation with them at the Lateran University” he said, “They told me ‘You have changed my life. Thank you!’  Some asked what they could do to accelerate the coming of the Messiah.  I told them they must work on changing this world, beginning  with their families.  Peace begins at home.” Similar statements on peace, forgiveness, and the importance of memory were delivered by another Holocaust survivor,  Rita Prigmore, a member of the Sinti Community in Germany.  She recalled the Shoah of the gypsies at the hands of Nazi Germany. “I always say to young people ‘You are not responsible for what happened, but you bear the responsibility of preventing that all this happen again.’ And quite simply, I tell them my story.”Her story, in brief, is that as a newborn child she and her twin sister were torn from their mother at birth by the Gestapo. Both were subjected to horrible medical experiments by Dr. Heyde, a disciple of Dr. Mengele. Her sister died as a result, and Rita still suffers their consequences. “I am shaken to the bottom of my heart at the growth of radical Right groups in many European countries” she says,  “and when I see gypsies insulted with the same words as in the past,  or when they are told that ‘the Third Reich forgot to gas you.’ ”“But I want to say to you that nothing can be built through hatred except for more hatred… I am convinced that only forgiveness can build a future, and hatred must be relegated to the past. The future can be built only through reciprocal understanding.  And reciprocal understanding is an active process: one must show interest in the other, speak to him, meet him and force oneself to understand him.”Oded Wiener, Director-General of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel  attended this annual St. Egidio  meeting for the tenth consecutive year.  In the course of these annual encounters, he has established contacts with many Muslim and Christian representatives from Arab countries.  “When you meet one another, face to face, things change”, he said.  “The other is no longer an unknown stranger.  This is the beginning of reciprocal understanding.”Rabbi Rosen remarked on the coincidence that the audience of the religious leaders with Pope Francis “who has generated openness and engagement with the other religions of the world”,  took place on September 30 – on the same day as the announcement of the forthcoming canonization on April 27 of John Paul II and John XXIII, “two great heroes of Jewish-Christian reconciliation.”

Israeli, Palestinian teams plan to intensify talks

Ramallah: MKs visit Abbas, who says nine months is enough time for a final status agreement

October 8, 2013, 12:38 am 0-The Times of Israel
Israeli and Palestinian officials held another round of negotiations in Jerusalem Monday, where they agreed to honor an American request to increase the pace of talks.“The intensity of the conversations went up,” a senior Palestinian official told Reuters, “and the sides agreed to extend the meetings to eight hours a day, and to increase their frequency. Within two months, they will need to see in Washington how the unavoidable gaps between the sides have been minimized.”“Up till now,” he said, ”we haven’t achieved anything.”
US Secretary of State John Kerry announced on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in late September that Israelis and Palestinians had agreed to intensify peace talks aimed at reaching a final status agreement. The secretary said that negotiators had engaged in seven rounds of bilateral talks in recent months, with a number of those meetings including US Special Envoy Martin Indyk. Also Monday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas sounded an optimistic note in a Ramallah meeting with 12 MKs –11 from Labor and one from Hatnua — regarding peace talks.“The period of nine months [set aside for the current talks] is enough to reach an agreement,” Abbas said, “All the issues were discussed in the past, whether at Camp David, Taba, or with [former PM Ehud] Olmert. He emphasized that security cooperation with Israel was at an all-time high. “You all know, and the world knows, that cooperation on all issues, on a day-to-day basis, is at 100%. The reason is simple: we want a completely normal atmosphere between Israelis and Palestine.”The MKs were in Ramallah on a visit of the Knesset Caucus to Resolve the Arab-Israeli Conflict headed by MK Hilik Bar (Labor). The caucus’s previous meeting, which took place in the Knesset in late July, was joined by PA representatives and marked the first time the Palestinian flag was raised in Israel’s parliament. No Israeli flag was in evidence, however, during Monday’s Ramallah meeting.
The MKs were met in Ramallah by a group of senior Palestinian officials, including Abbas’s adviser Yasser Abed Rabo and presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh. On Sunday, speaking at the 20th anniversary ceremony of Bar-Ilan University’s Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu placed blame for the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict on Ramallah’s refusal to come to terms with Israel as a Jewish state.“The Palestinians must abandon their refusal to recognize the right of the Jewish people to have their national state,” he said.Netanyahu dismissed claims that Israel’s presence in the West Bank stood at the heart of the conflict, stating instead that as long as the Palestinians don’t internalize the Jewish state’s right to exist, there will not be peace.“In order for the process in which we find ourselves to be significant… in order for it to have a real chance of success,” he said, referring to the current rounds of negotiations begun this summer, “it’s necessary to hear the Palestinian leadership finally say that it recognizes the right of the Jewish people to a state of its own, which is the state of Israel.”“I hope that it shall be so, so that we can advance a real solution to the conflict,” continued Netanyahu. Also Sunday, Maariv reported that Israel and the Palestinian Authority have reached an impasse due to an Israeli refusal to discuss land-swap and border issues.According to an unnamed, senior foreign diplomat with knowledge of the discussions, during the latest round of talks the Israeli team of Justice Minister Tzipi Livni and Netanyahu adviser Yitzhak Molcho made it clear to the Palestinians that Israel intends to retain some of the settlement blocs as part of a final agreement, but refused to name which areas or discuss possible compensation to the Palestinians for the territory to be annexed.Havig Rettig Gur and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

PROVERBS 31:10-31
10  Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11  The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12  She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13  She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14  She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15  She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16  She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17  She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18  She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19  She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20  She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21  She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22  She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23  Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24  She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25  Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26  She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27  She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28  Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29  Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30  Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

The Women of the Wall agreed in principle to transfer its monthly prayer services to a newly built egalitarian plaza and withdraw its demand to hold services in the women’s section of the Western Wall. However, the group, which made the decision during a board meeting Sunday night, stated that it would only do so once all of its demands were met, among them for funding equal to the traditional prayer sites and the creation of a continuous plaza at the Wall to connect them all.In a statement on the group’s website, Women of the Wall chair Anat Hoffman stated that the decision was not an easy one, but that as “agents of change, we see before us the duty to consider this new strategy.”“We have to rise above dispute in order to build the future that we wish for the future generations of our daughters and granddaughters,” she said. The statement concluded by noting that change and acceptance were required not only of the group, but also of Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch, the Western Wall’s rabbi. It said that Rabinovitch would have to ease his grip on the holy site and make it a place where members of all the streams of Judaism can pray freely. The group’s demands are already known to Jewish Agency chairman Natan Sharansky, who outlined a proposal in April to build an egalitarian prayer plaza in order to end the ongoing feud between the pluralistic prayer group and Orthodox groups. The Women of the Wall were pressured by the Conservative movement to be open to Sharansky’s proposal following the construction of the egalitarian plaza in August. When the plaza was initially built, Hoffman dismissed it as a “sunbathing deck,” and said that the organization would not accept a “second-rate Wall for second-rate Jews.”The group is due to submit a position paper in the upcoming days to a committee appointed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resolve the ongoing dispute.

New Song: 'Boycott Israel, If You Think That's Just'

Jewish rapper Ari Lesser makes "Boycott Israel" music video viral about the wrongs of other nations violating human rights.-By Kochava Rozenbaum-First Publish: 10/8/2013, 1:42 AM-Israelnationalnews

Amid the constant bashing of Israel on the internet and other media platforms, Jewish musician and rapper Ari Lesser has produced a video to highlight the "double standard" which singles-out the Jewish State.
The chorus says it all: "Boycott Israel, if you think that's just, but unless you have a double standard you must, also boycott the rest of the nations with allegations of human rights violations."The American-born and now Tzfat based MC admitted that the 65-year-old country is sometimes "not perfect," and yet the State of Israel is, by comparison, better than the nations which kidnap, torture, oppress, and murder its civilians.
Lesser's message about honest, pro-Israel reporting has sparked the support of many from across the globe. One response came from a Youtube user called MCJustiz who wrote: "As a born Muslim I am with you 100%. When people try and tell me to boycott Israel I normally have long Facebook rants about some of the countries you mentioned, now I can just post a link to this great song."

Discordant Shas faces possible schism after Yosef’s death

The peerless spiritual leader held together a fractured party; the feuding politicians he left behind may be unable to to do the same

October 7, 2013, 11:54 pm 0-The Times of Israel
It is hard to exaggerate the influence on Israeli religion, politics and public life of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, who died Monday at the age of 93. For millions of Israelis – some 800,000 of whom attended his funeral in Jerusalem Monday night – Yosef was the embodiment of religious piety, learning and Sephardi pride. His religious rulings, famously composed of long compendia of past rabbinic opinions, showcased his vast, encyclopedic knowledge of Jewish law. His was a genius matched by few living Jews. And he used that genius to correct a historic wrong: the shunting aside of Sephardi Jewish immigrants in the early years of the Jewish state. Born into an Iraqi Jewish family, Yosef took great pains throughout his career to appeal to Sephardic Jewish communities that were starkly different from his, successfully uniting religious Yemenites, Moroccans, Algerians, Egyptians and others both in religious doctrine and, from the 1980s onward, under the banner of the Shas party.Political founder, ethnic unifier, unparalleled legal genius, religious mentor to a generation of successful Sephardic politicians, Maran — or “master” as his followers called him — was the political and spiritual heart of the Shas movement. In that sense, his passing marks the fading of an age. No single Israeli was more central to the reclaimed pride of Sephardic Jewry in a state founded by a narrow Ashkenazi elite. And, perhaps, no single Israeli generated more political opposition than the politician-rabbi whose electoral power was founded on ethnic division and resentment. His passing also marks a political crisis for the movement he founded. Shas’s leadership, both the political and the religious, is divided into two opposing factions: supporters of former party chief MK Eli Yishai and those of the current leader MK Aryeh Deri. The divide is also rabbinic: Yishai supports former chief rabbi Shlomo Amar to replace Yosef as Shas’s spiritual and political supreme leader, whereas Deri seeks an heir either in Yosef’s son, the current Sephardi Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, or in Rabbi Shalom Cohen, head of the Porat Yosef Yeshiva and a member of Shas’s four-member Council of Torah Sages. With the old master who kept them united in shared allegiance to him now gone, the party faces the very real danger of splitting along that factional divide. The two camps – Yishai-Amar and Deri-Yosef – have a history of bad blood between them.Deri was the political genius behind Shas’s rapid rise to power in the 1980s. He was Israel’s interior minister at the tender age of 29, a role in which he garnered praise from unexpected quarters, including legendary Jerusalem mayor Teddy Kolek, a Labor Party man who nevertheless called Shas’s first interior minister the most effective Israel had ever had.Deri’s ascent was followed by an abrupt fall when he was convicted of bribery in 2000 and sentenced to three years in prison. He announced his return to politics in mid-2011 and managed to obtain Ovadia Yosef’s blessing to lead Shas once again in October 2012, unceremoniously ousting Yishai as party leader ahead of the January 2013 national elections.Deri’s return from the political desert was swift and comprehensive. Last year, he worked hard to stymie the efforts of then-chief rabbi Shlomo Amar to be reelected to a second 10-year term. Amar was too closely identified with Yishai, he felt. Deri preferred Ovadia Yosef’s son, Yitzhak, who was eventually elected chief rabbi in July 2013.Deri’s closest confidante, MK Ariel Atias, was placed third on the party list, ensuring his appointment as Knesset faction chair in charge of the party’s legislative agenda. It was a rapid takeover, made possible by the all-important support of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef. Now, all eyes are on Shas’s top leaders to see if the party’s new leadership can survive the old master’s death. The challenge to Deri’s power could come quickly. Deri is unlikely to be unseated as party chairman by Shas’s Council of Torah Sages so soon after Ovadia Yosef himself approved his appointment. But Yishai, Deri’s political nemesis, may not need to oust him in order to get out from under his yoke.By law, a group of MKs can split from their current party and still receive public campaign financing if they take with them at least one-third of the MKs of the party they are leaving. Eli Yishai enjoys the support of several Shas MKs, including Avraham Michaeli and Yaakov Margi. MKs David Azulai and Meshulam Nahari are thought to be wavering between the camps. The loyalty of several others is either unknown or in flux. In fact, of eleven Shas MKs in the current Knesset, Deri can count with absolute surety only on himself and Atias. And since Yishai, bristling under the thumb of his hated adversary, only needs three additional MKs to establish his own financially viable party overnight, the temptation to walk away from Shas may be hard to resist.Hundreds of thousands of Israelis lost a spiritual guide on Monday. The party he founded lost something more. The party’s very raison d’etre was in its service to Maran. Shas’s leaders will now find themselves faced with two uneasy choices: to unite in fashioning a post-Ovadia party out of the political shell he left behind, or to splinter away into more comfortable fragments destined for political oblivion.

US budget trouble hits EU trade talks

Today @ 09:28-OCT 8,13
BRUSSELS - Talks between the EU and US on a landmark trade deal have been cancelled this week as a result of the continuing government shutdown in Washington DC.US trade officials were expected to arrive in Brussels on Monday (7 October) for the second round of negotiations on a proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Plan (TTIP) with talks planned to last all week.As yet there are no indications of when the talks will be rescheduled. The US government was forced into a partial shut-down last week, after Democrats and Republicans in Congress failed to reach a deal on the country's budget.Republicans are refusing to adopt new spending plans unless President Obama's healthcare reforms are blocked or are stripped of funding, three years after the bill was adopted in Congress.Only essential government functions will take place until the two parties reach an agreement with thousands of state employees going without pay.
However, a deal needs to be reached by 17 October, the date when the US is due to default on its debt repayments.Obama also scrapped plans to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation summit in Bali, the other key priority of US trade policy, although US Trade Representative Michael Froman was present.
Speaking with Bloomberg television on Sunday (6 October), Froman said that there could be little progress in trade negotiations until the end of the shut-down.“We’ve had to pull back on our negotiations, we’ve had to stop some of our enforcement efforts, we’re not able to monitor a lot of our existing agreements,” he said.
The cancellation of the talks will also come as a blow to EU officials, particularly the commission's trade chief, Karel de Gucht, who has set an ambitious deadline - next year - for concluding the talks. The EU executive believes that a trade deal harmonising technical and regulatory standards, as well as scrapping remaining tariff barriers, could be worth up to 1 percent of GDP.In a statement released Friday (4 October), de Gucht described the move as “unfortunate” but did not undermine the “clear commitment of the EU and the US to the TTIP process.”“It in no way distracts us from our overall aim of achieving an ambitious trade and investment deal between Europe and the US,” he added. For her part, Marietje Schaake, a Dutch MEP on the Parliament's US delegation, called on the two sides to continue talks “via digital means” until the US side could re-open formal negotiations.

ISAIAH 17:1,11-14
1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
11  In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

Assad Places War Jets in Iran for Safety

German intelligence agents say Syrian jets are parked in Iran; Iran sent elite troops to support Assad’s forces.-By Kochava Rozenbaum-First Publish: 10/8/2013, 2:44 AM-Israelnationalnews

Iran has given permission to Bashar Assad's regime to keep his war planes in their territory to protect them from possible attack, according to a report by the German newspaper, Der Spiegel.According to the report, marked "classified," Iran and Syria had signed an agreement a while back permitting Assad to transfer a large part of his air force to Iran, taking back the aircraft when he needed them. The German intelligence paper reportedly said Iran had also sent elite troops from its Revolutionary Guard to support the forces of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad. The intelligence report also said a source had reported that a Syria-Iran military deal from November 2012 allowed Assad “to station large parts of his air force on safe Iranian territory and to use them when needed,” said Spiegel Online. The weekly news magazine published an interview with Assad in which he again denied responsibility for deadly chemical weapons attacks in late August, accusing rebels whom he labels terrorists of being behind them.“We have not used chemical weapons. This is wrong,” Assad is quoted as saying. “And so is the picture you’re drawing of me of someone who kills his own people.”Assad also suggested Germany could play a mediator role in ending the bloody conflict that has killed more than 100,000 people in over two years.Germany’s outgoing Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, during an Afghanistan visit, rejected the idea, saying Berlin supports UN special envoy Lakhdar Brahimi, Spiegel Online reported.

Attacks surge in Egypt, a day after deadly clashes

Nine security personnel are dead after strikes that blur the lines between a wave of Islamist protests and an insurgency previously confined to Sinai

October 8, 2013, 2:42 am 0-The Times of Israel
CAIRO (AP) — A string of attacks killed nine members of Egypt’s security and military forces and hit the country’s main satellite communications station Monday, in an apparent retaliation by Islamic militants a day after more than 50 supporters of the ousted president were killed in clashes with police. The attacks show a dangerous expansion of targets, including the first strike against civilian infrastructure in the heart of the capital. They also blur the lines between the wave of Islamist protests against the military ouster of President Mohammed Morsi, and an insurgency that had been previously been largely confined to the northern Sinai Peninsula. It is also likely to harden positions of the military-backed government and its opponents, making reconciliation more difficult.“We are at war with them,” said Mohammed Ibrahim, the country’s interior minister in charge of security forces, pointing to militant groups. He suggested the surge in attacks, particularly the targeting of the satellite station— which left a minor damage on one of the dishes — was in retaliation for the government crackdown on Sunday’s protests.“This is an attempt to prove they are still around and are not broken,” he told The Associated Press, without specifying which groups are behind the attacks. “They also aim to confuse, to distract” security forces. In another development Monday likely to give momentum to the government crackdown on Islamists, a panel of judges recommended the dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood’s political party, the Freedom and Justice Party, which was registered months after the 2011 ouster of autocrat Hosni Mubarak. The judges’ recommendation said the party represents an outlawed group. The recommendations will be delivered to a Cairo court reviewing a case demanding the party’s dissolution on Oct. 19.Another court had already ordered a ban on the Brotherhood’s activities, and froze its assets, a decision currently reviewed by a government appointed committee amid legal challenges from group members.Ashraf Badreddin, a member of the FJP, said authorities had already shut down offices of the party long before a court decision, telling Doha-based satellite broadcaster Al-Jazeera Mubasher Masr that the recommendation was “politicized.”At least 2,000 of the group’s leading and mid-level members have been detained, including Morsi, and head of the FJP, Saad el-Katatni. Most of them will face trial on charges that range from murder and inciting violence to abuse of power and conspiring with foreign powers. Hundreds others died in a violent crackdown on protests and sit-ins held by Morsi supporters.Authorities accuse pro-Morsi supporters of seeking to create chaos to discredit the new government. The government declared it is waging a war against terrorism.Pro-Morsi supporters deny they resort to violence.Ahmed Mostafa, a Brotherhood student leader, said there are plans to hold rallies at universities this week to denounce the killings and the military leaders, saying authorities are engaged in a campaign to pull his group and supporters toward violence, or armed confrontation. There are also calls for protest in Cairo’s central Tahrir Square.
He dismissed accusations that Islamists are behind the surge in attacks.“We reaffirm that peacefulness of our actions is stronger than weapons,” he said. Such attacks, he said, “may be fabrications by intelligence agencies to justify their campaign against (us).”A suicide bomber struck a security headquarters in the town of el-Tor, in southern Sinai, earlier Monday, killing three policemen, wounding 55 others, and damaging the building. Southern Sinai is famous for its beach resorts such as Sharm el-Sheikh and has been generally spared the violence of the northern tip of the peninsula in the past six years. Attacks there in 2005 and 2006 left dozens, including tourists, dead.Near-daily attacks against security forces and soldiers in the volatile northern Sinai Peninsula have increasingly resembled a full-fledged insurgency, especially in the three months since the ouster of Morsi. Ibrahim said counter-insurgency operations there have pushed militants into neighboring southern Sinai. The body parts of the suicide bomber in el-Tor are still being analyzed to determine who was behind the attack, Ibrahim said.In another attack, masked gunmen pulled alongside a pickup truck full of troops on patrol near the Suez Canal and opened fire, killing six soldiers, security officials said on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief reporters. And in a brazen targeting of a civilian infrastructure, gunmen believed to be hiding in nearby buildings fired a projectile into the compound housing the satellite dishes just before dawn, leaving a hole in one but causing no disruption of communications. Earlier, security officials said they believed rocket-propelled grenades were used in the attack, but Ibrahim said it was unlikely. The surge in violence in the aftermath of the coup has raised questions about whether extremist sympathizers of Morsi, and others within his Brotherhood group, are using such attacks to bargain with authorities for a political goal, said political science professor Gamal Abdel-Gawad.
On the other hand, he said: “The government in Egypt is more prepared to deal with terrorism rather than with political instability.“This is a security apparatus that has long experience in dealing with terrorism,” he said in reference to a wave of terror attacks in the late 1980s and 1990s that targeted Egypt’s security forces, liberal figures, politicians, Christians, and tourist resorts. The violence is certain to set back efforts by the interim, military-backed government to revive the economy, especially the vital tourism sector, and bring order to the streets of Cairo, where crime and lawlessness have been rife.In a sign of increased nervousness, security measures were heightened at Cairo International Airport Monday, with authorities using explosives detectors and dogs to inspect vehicles.Abdel-Gawad said the targeting of the communications center appeared aimed at “paralyzing” symbols of the modern state by disrupting communications, but added that it was too early to say whether this is a new trend.Abdel-Gawad said militants now have more capabilities than before. This time around also, “there are more people willing to grant legitimacy to terrorist activities because of the political developments,” he said.

Erdogan calls Assad a ‘terrorist,’ blasts Kerry

Turkish PM’s comments come after Syrian president said he was a liar ‘responsible for the blood of tens of thousands of Syrians’

October 7, 2013, 11:01 pm 0-The Times of Israel
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan leveled scathing criticism at Syrian President Bashar Assad, calling him a terrorist who is no longer a politician.“I don’t regard Bashar Assad as a politician anymore. He’s a terrorist carrying out state terrorism. A person who killed 110,000 of his people is a terrorist. There’s state terrorism — I’m speaking frankly,” Erdogan said at a press conference Sunday after a meeting with India’s president, Hurriyet reported. “I’m having difficulty understanding those in the Turkish media who defend this.”Erdogan has been one of Assad’s harshest critics since Syria’s uprising erupted in March 2011. On Monday he also denounced US Secretary of State John Kerry for praising Syria’s compliance with the international community in relinquishing its chemical weapons.“You are a human being and me, too,” said Erdogan. “How can we appreciate the behavior of a person who killed 110,000 people, I ask you. The result of either chemical or other types of weapons is death. Then how can we appreciate this? I cannot imagine a person who appreciates this. I don’t think Mr. Kerry made such a statement. If he made it, he would be contradicting himself.”Erdogan’s comments came only days after his country was harshly criticized by Assad. In an interview with Turkey’s private Halk TV last Thursday, the Syrian president warned that Ankara would pay “a high price” for allowing foreign fighters to enter Syria from its territory and join rebel forces. Assad also called Erdogan a liar, and accused him of supporting terrorists.Assad made no mention of his government’s role in the civil war that has killed at least 100,000 people so far, instead blaming foreign fighters and governments, including Turkey’s, for the bloodshed.“This government, represented by Erdogan, is responsible for the blood of tens of thousands of Syrians, and is responsible for the destruction of Syria’s infrastructure,” Assad said. It is also “responsible for endangering security of the region, not only Syria.”
“You cannot hide terrorists in your pocket. They are like a scorpion, which will eventually sting you,” Assad added, saying Muslim extremists from more than 80 countries are coming to Syria by sneaking across the border with Turkey.Erdogan has long advocated the removal of Assad from power. On August 31, the Turkish leader said a limited military response to the reported use of chemical weapons by Assad’s regime was not enough, and any kind of intervention should aim to topple him.“It can’t be a 24 hours hit-and-run,” Erdogan told reporters at the presidential palace in Ankara. “What matters is stopping the bloodshed in Syria and weakening the regime to the point where it gives up.”There are currently some 500,000 Syrian refugees living in Turkey. Erdogan, a former ally of the Syrian president, turned against him several months after the Syrian conflict began in March 2011.The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Supreme Court to decide whether affirmative action can be left up to state voters

Just 10 years after the Supreme Court upheld the University of Michigan’s use of race in admissions as a necessary step to foster campus diversity, the justices are set to decide whether that state’s voters are allowed to ban affirmative action in admissions entirely. The case, Schuette v Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action, is one of several controversial cases on the docket in the 2013-14 term, which begins Monday.
The justices are also set to decide cases concerning campaign finance, prayer at legislative meetings, and abortion rights. If the justices decide in Michigan voters’ favor, it could lead to a spate of states banning affirmative action through ballot initiatives and would almost certainly result in declining enrollments of minority students in public colleges around the country. In 2006, Michigan voters approved a measure to amend the state constitution to prohibit the government from “discriminat[ing] against, or grant[ing] preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting.” The voter initiative, called the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative, effectively banned affirmative action at state schools. The measure came just three years after the 2003 Grutter v Bollinger case, where the court decided in a 5-4 vote that the University of Michigan Law School could grant admissions preferences to minority applicants in the interest of fostering diversity for the entire study body. (The decision barred the use of racial admissions quotas, however.)
Black enrollment has plummeted 30 percent at Michigan’s undergraduate and law schools since the 2006 affirmative action ballot initiative. Nine other states have barred the use of race in admissions as well, and the Supreme Court’s decision this year could either cement those policies or effectively eliminate them, depending on its scope. The architect of the 2003 Grutter v Bollinger decision, Sandra Day O’Connor, has since retired and been replaced by the more conservative Samuel Alito, shifting the balance of the court rightward. That has led legal experts to believe affirmative action could be on the chopping block the next time an acceptable case reached the court. But last June, the justices surprised court watchers by passing on the opportunity to strike down the University of Texas’s use of affirmative action in undergraduate admissions, sending the case back down to a lower court for review. And this Michigan case is not a good platform for the justices to consider the legality of affirmative action itself, since it addresses whether a state may ban affirmative action, not whether affirmative action is constitutional.“The court may say something that bears on the Grutter case, but it's not going to overturn the Grutter case,” Gail Heriot, professor of law at the University of San Diego and an opponent of race-based affirmative action, told Yahoo News.If the court ultimately reverses itself on affirmative action and declares it discriminatory, it would most likely be when the University of Texas case wends its way back to the court, she added. But the stakes are still high, both for voters who want to ban the use of race in admissions in their state and universities who say it’s incredibly difficult to maintain racial diversity on campus if they’re required to use totally race-blind admissions.
The argument in favor of allowing Michigan’s ballot initiative is that it’s well within a state’s right to bar preferences and discrimination based on race. Just because the Supreme Court says the Constitution allows racial preferences in admissions doesn’t force a state to do so as well, the argument goes. The case against the ballot initiative is not so straightforward.Affirmative action defenders say the initiative puts minorities at a distinct disadvantage because it singles them out and says universities cannot favor or discriminate against them while not singling out other groups that might be eligible for special treatment, including legacies, athletes, and veterans. That means that the children of alumni, for example, could lobby a university to privilege them in admissions, but minority applicants would have no ability to do so since the initiative has made it explicitly illegal. That’s where conservative leaning swing vote Anthony Kennedy comes in.In 1996 Kennedy wrote the majority opinion in Romer v. Evans, ruling that Colorado voters could not amend the state constitution to prevent the government from protecting gays and lesbians as their own group in anti-discrimination policies. Kennedy wrote that since this ballot initiative intended to single out gay people as ineligible for special protection, it violated their right to equal protection under the law.Geoff Stone, a constitutional law professor at the University of Chicago, says Kennedy will have to show that the Michigan ballot initiative is different from Romer and not discriminatory.“In his own mind, [Kennedy] saw Romer as a law that was discriminating against gays and lesbians, whereas…he sees this as a law that simply guarantees racial equality,” Stone said. “It all depends on Kennedy.”Most legal experts believe that Kennedy will join the four more conservative justices in upholding the Michigan ballot initiative. Justice Elena Kagan has recused herself, probably due to her work on the case as solicitor general under President Barack Obama. If the justices split 4-4, the lower court's decision striking down the ballot initiative would stand.

Boehner says U.S. on path to default if Obama won't negotiate

By Caren Bohan and Andy Sullivan-oct 7,13-yahoonews
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican House Speaker John Boehner vowed on Sunday not to raise the U.S. debt ceiling without a "serious conversation" about what is driving the debt, while Democrats said it was irresponsible and reckless to raise the possibility of a U.S. default."The nation's credit is at risk because of the administration's refusal to sit down and have a conversation," Boehner told ABC's "This Week," adding that there were not enough votes in the House of Representatives to pass a "clean" debt limit bill, without any conditions attached.Asked if that meant the United States was headed towards a default if President Barack Obama did not negotiate ahead of an October 17 deadline to raise the debt ceiling, Boehner said: "That's the path we're on."The comments appeared to mark a hardening since late last week when Boehner was reported to have told Republicans privately that he would work to avoid default, even if it meant relying on the votes of Democrats, as he did in August 2011.Republicans and Democrats also traded blame for a shutdown that has brought much of the government to a standstill for nearly a week. With no end in sight, the battle over funding the government has merged into the one over the debt ceiling.Republicans have demanded that Democrats agree to delay implementation of the Affordable Care Act, the landmark 2010 law popularly known as Obamacare, as part of any spending bill. They have also been seeking measures to address the federal government's long-term debt in exchange for raising its $16.7 trillion debt limit. If the borrowing cap is not increased, the United States could go into default, with what officials and economists say would be seriously damaging consequences for the U.S. and global economies."I don't want the United States to default on its debt," Boehner said. "But I'm not going to raise the debt limit without a serious conversation about dealing with problems that are driving the debt up. It would be irresponsible of me to do this."Treasury Secretary Jack Lew warned of serious consequences if "the unthinkable" were to happen and the United States defaulted. "It is irresponsible and it is reckless to take that chance, which is why Congress needs to act," he told Fox News.He told CNN: "On the 17th we run out of our ability to borrow, and Congress is playing with fire."Senator Ted Cruz, who has been the standard-bearer for Republican opposition to funding the government without measures to undercut Obama's healthcare law, told CNN that Congress frequently in the past had attached curbs on spending to votes to raise the debt ceiling.
On this occasion, he said, Republicans were looking for three things before raising the debt ceiling: a significant structural plan to reduce government spending, no new taxes, and measures to "mitigate the harm from Obamacare."Democrats vow not to negotiate on the funding bill or the debt ceiling, arguing that it is the job of Congress to pay its bills.
MARKETS WARY
Concerns that the shutdown could trim economic growth coupled with nervousness over a potential debt ceiling crisis later this month have weighed on stocks and pushed the U.S. dollar close to an eight-month low.
While selling has been orderly so far, investors expect volatility to rise as the shutdown continues and the debt ceiling deadline nears.Democratic Senator Charles Schumer told ABC's "This Week" he did not believe Boehner would let the nation go into default, as it would lead to chaos on financial markets, freeze lines of credit and cause a jump in interest rates."I believe Speaker Boehner will not do that when push comes to shove," Schumer said, adding that Boehner and Republicans would be forced "sooner or later" to stand up to the "hard right" in their party and give in. "They will have to back off."Obama and the Democrats say bills to fund the government and raise the debt ceiling could be resolved quickly if Boehner permitted votes on simple, no-strings-attached measures in the Republican-controlled House.Asked about reports that around 20 House Republicans have said they would join some 200 Democrats in voting for such a bill - enough to pass it - Boehner told ABC that there were not enough votes in the chamber to pass such a bill.White House spokesman Jay Carney said Boehner should prove he does not have the votes for a clean bill, known as a "continuing resolution," or CR, by putting a bill on the House floor. "The Speaker says there are 'not enough votes' to pass a clean CR? If he's right, why not prove it?" Carney said via Twitter. The Affordable Care Act aims to provide health insurance to millions of Americans without coverage. Republicans argue it is a massive government intrusion into private medicine that will cause insurance premiums to skyrocket, put people out of work and eventually lead to socialized medicine. The government shutdown started on Tuesday and initially idled as many as 800,000 federal workers, shuttering all but essential government operations. The Pentagon said on Saturday it would recall the vast majority of some 350,000 civilian Defense Department employees sent home during the shutdown. The announcement came as Democrats and Republicans in the House agreed to pay all furloughed employees retroactively once the government reopened.
NO MAGIC SOLUTION
In an interview on CNN, Lew repeatedly declined to say what would happen if Congress failed to raise the debt ceiling. Some Republicans have argued that the U.S. government would be able to continue to service its debt even if it did not have enough money to pay all of its bills. Lew declined to say whether that would be the case, but he argued that it would be just as bad if it missed other obligations like Social Security pension payments or Medicare payments to hospitals and doctors."There is no option that prevents us from being in default if we don't pay our bills," Lew told CNN's "State of the Union."Lew said the Obama administration has determined that legally it does not have the authority to raise the debt ceiling on its own, as some Democratic lawmakers have suggested."There's a desire here for there to be some kind of a magic solution. There's an easy solution: a majority in Congress would do the right thing if given a chance to open the government. A majority in Congress would do the right thing if given a chance to let us pay our bills."
While most House Republicans have remained firmly opposed to reopening the government without some changes to Obamacare, Republicans in Democratic-leaning states have been trying to build support for a revolt against that stance. In an opinion piece on Sunday on local news website Philly.com, seven Republican House members from districts in northeastern states called for a measure to reopen the government without conditions."The fight to stop Obamacare cannot continue with the government shut down. That's why we support a short-term, clean funding bill to turn those lights back on," wrote the group, which included Representatives Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania and Frank LoBiondo of New Jersey. The lawmakers also said they were talking with some Democrats on a possible compromise plan that would involve reopening the government for six months while repealing the medical device tax, a provision of Obamacare that is unpopular with Republicans and some Democrats.(Reporting by Tabassum Zakaria, Bill Trott, Paul Simao, Jeff Mason, Tom Ferraro, Richard Cowan, Phil Stewart; Writing by Claudia Parsons; Editing by Paul Simao)
