(CNN) -- A Marine facing discharge over criticism of President Barack Obama on a Facebook page he administers will fight in military and civilian courts, his attorney said Tuesday.A military board recommended last week that Sgt. Gary Stein be given an other-than-honorable discharge on grounds that he violated good order and discipline by calling Obama a liar and suggesting he would not follow some orders issued by the president, among other comments posted to his Armed Forces Tea Party Facebook page.The board found he also violated rules limiting political conduct by service members.This is not just a First Amendment case, attorney Gary Kreep said on CNN Tuesday.They violated their own rules, they violated their own procedures.Kreep, executive director of the U.S. Justice Foundation, said the panel did not allow Stein's attorneys to present testimony from expert witnesses who would have said that the rule under which the board was recommending Stein's discharge only applies to commissioned officers.Stein said the case against him was weak.They based this on personal opinion, nothing about the legal aspects, he said.The case is now in the hands of Brig. Gen. Daniel Yoo, commander of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, where Stein is stationed. It will be up to Yoo to decide whether the discharge effort proceeds.Stein is asking a federal judge in San Diego to block the discharge proceeding, saying it violates his rights to free speech and due process. A hearing is scheduled for Friday, but Kreep said he is not optimistic.The federal judge hearing this matter has expressed a marked unwillingness to protect the rights of Sgt. Stein and has urged us to go up to the 9th Circuit. And on Monday or so, if we lose on Friday, on Monday we'll be before the 9th Circuit.

The company calls abilities like this ubiquitous navigation, and the idea is that it will enable a new kind of e-commerce predicated on the fact that shopkeepers will know the moment you walk by their front door, or when you are looking at a particular product, and can offer you coupons at that instant.Over 82% of Americans own cell phones, with around half of these being smart phones. In the near future, the majority of Americans will own smart phones that will have the ability to track their location down to a few centimeters.With the effort to legally establish surveillance drones as a legitimate tool in domestic law enforcement, authorities could save a lot of time and money by simply requesting cell phone companies provide real-time tracking of suspects via their smart phones.
Indeed, Apple, Google and Microsoft have all been caught secretly tracking the physical locations of their users and saving that information to a file. How long is it before such data is instantly available to law enforcement bodies on demand, just as governments are legislating that ISPs and cell phone companies divulge our web browsing histories, email, texts and call information? Hundreds of Jews from Israel and beyond celebrated the Passover Seder in Jabel Musa in the Sinai desert.The mountain is commonly referred to as Mount Moses, which some believe is Mount Sinai upon which the Torah was given to Israel.Rabbi Menachem Feuerstein told Arutz Sheva about the special Seder at the top of Mount Sinai.We want to congratulate all 320 participants who came to celebrate the Passover Seder on the holy mountain of Mount Sinai in the Sinai desert,said Rabbi Feuerstein.We met at the border crossing at Taba and drove the Bedouin village of Il Hokham. There we loaded our equipment on camels and ascended to the top behind kalafah. There were no problems.We had six large heated tents and all the food was kosher. People brought warm clothes because the summit is very cool.We wish Israel a happy and kosher Passover,he added.

BRUSSELS - A top scientist within the EU agency authorising new drugs resigned on Wednesday (4 April) after being fired from France's national regulator, itself embroiled in scandals over poisonous diabetes drugs and failing breast implants.
Eric Abadie, a French specialist in diabetes and heart-related diseases, had for the past five years been chaired a panel of experts giving scientific advice to the European Medicines Agency on authorising the sale of new drugs on the EU market.I am not aware of any criminal charges made against Dr Abadie," Martin Harvey, a spokesman for the London-based EU agency told this website, adding that his resignation was linked to the other job Abadie was holding as top scientific adviser of France's national medicines regulatory body.The spokesman explained that almost all experts sitting on the EU panel have a similar role at national level. This does not present a conflict of interests in that it is important that the European and national agencies work together closely,Harvey said.The French agency meanwhile has come under intense scrutiny for not having withdrawn authorisation for Mediator, a diabetes drug - Abadie's field of expertise according to his CV - that was already banned in other countries and that is blamed for having killed at least 500 patients in France. Since December, the agency is also being accused of having given a green light to faulty breast implants filled with poisonous industrial silicone made by the now bankrupt French producer PIP.A spokeswoman for the French agency told this website that Abadie's resignation is due to the fact that his post was scrapped during a re-organisation of the agency decided in December - at the peak of the PIP breast implants scandal. She refused to comment on the link between the scandal and Abadie's scientific advice.He decided to resign because his position within the EU agency was paid for by the French government and because the director of the EU agency did not give a favourable answer to taking over his salary,she explained.
The EU medicines agency already has come under fire for having turned a blind eye to close links to the pharma industry, with its former director resigning at the end of 2010 to go and work as a consultant for the drug industry only a few days later.
Last month, MEPs in the budgetary control committee refused to sign off the agency's accounts for 2010 over conflict of interest issues.The Abadie case is yet another example of the need to have independent experts working only for the EU agency and not for national bodies or other organisations. Conflict of interests are not only an opportunity for the industry to bend rules according to their needs, but can also endanger public safety, Romanian MEP Monica Macovei who drafted the parliament's position on the issue told this website.Consumer protection groups have also rallied behind her.We try to encourage these agencies to make an effort and resolve conflicts of interest, which are bad for consumers,said Jonathan La Morte from Beuc, the European umbrella organisation for consumer protection groups.In a position paper sent to the European Parliament last month, Beuc stressed that the effective management of conflict of interests are crucial to maintain consumers’ trust in the independence and in the quality of the scientific opinions of EMA and ultimately in the safety of the medicines they use.

President Mahmoud Abbas said Sunday he will turn to the UN General Assembly for recognition if Israel does not capitulate to his demands.A previous bid for recognition in the United Nations Security Council – which must approve all moves for full membership in the world body – was stopped dead by the specter of a veto from the United States.Approval would require 9 affirmative recommendations in the council and no negative recommendations from the five permanent, veto-wielding, members - Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States.The PLO – currently listed as an observer entity with no voting rights – applied for full membership of the UN on Sept. 23. An admissions committee said on Nov. 11 it had failed to reach an agreement on the bid.Even without the promised US veto in play, the current composition of the 15-member decision making council remains unfavorable to the PA bid as Ramallah cannot muster sufficient affirmative votes.It had been suggested that Ramallah could instead seek upgraded observer status via the General Assembly to make it a non-member observer state – like the Vatican – but Abbas angrily rejected the proposal.Nonetheless, Abbas' change of heart on Sunday is no surprise. Last Tuesday, Abbas telegraphed the move saying a unilateral track at the United Nations is our right and we will turn to the UN again.The threat to again pursue a unilateral track at the United Nations in violation of the 1994 Oslo Accords comes as chief PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat prepares to deliver a letter to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu outlining Ramallah's demands.The letter is expected to reiterate Ramallah's preconditions that Israel accept the indefensible pre-1967 lines as the future borders of a PA state, release all Arab terrorists from its prisons, and again halt all construction in the disputed territories.Presidential adviser Nimir Hammad indicated earlier that Palestinian envoys would deliver the message next week, but negotiator Saeb Erekat told Ma'an on Sunday they were still waiting for Israeli confirmation of the meeting.Last week, sources close to Netanyahu said the Prime Minister will reply to Abbas demanding he returns to negotiations without preconditions.
Netanyahu is also expected to demand Abbas recognize Israel as a Jewish state and agree to security arrangements in any peace agreement.The official said Netanyahu would finalize his response after receiving Abbas' letter.Critics say Netanyahu's government has failed to adapt to a new paradigm in which PLO officials pursue a unilateral track while forestalling bilateral talks with unacceptable preconditions.
In December 2011, PLO officials announced a strategy based on continuous efforts along with the international community to secure full recognition and full United Nations membership, pursuing internal reconciliation, and keeping up the popular resistance.

A top officer with Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards said Monday that no country would dare attack Iran.No country would dare attack Iran, a top officer in the country's elite Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) said on Monday, adding that Iranian forces planned to engage in more military drills in order to preserve their combat vigilance.The comments by Mohammad Pakpour, the head of the IRGC's ground forces, came as Cmdr. Amy Derrick-Frost of the Bahrain-based U.S. 5th Fleet said earlier in the day that the U.S. Navy deployed a second aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf.
The deployment of the nuclear-powered USS Enterprise along with the Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group marks only the fourth time in the past decade that the Navy has had two aircraft carriers operating at the same time in the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea.The two carriers will support the American military operations in Afghanistan and anti-piracy efforts off Somalia's coast and in the Gulf of Aden, she said.The warships also patrol the Gulf's strategic oil routes that Iran has threatened to shut down in retaliation for economic sanctions slapped on the Islamic Republic because of its nuclear program.The deployment and Iran's bellicose reaction came just days ahead of renewed nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 – the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany – slated to begin in Istanbul on April 14.Speaking to Iranian media on Monday, Pakpour referred to threats of possible military actions against Iran's nuclear program, saying:No country dares to attack Iran.The top Iranian official asserted that, following several recent extensive drills, Iranian forces were in full combat readiness, adding that the IRGC planned to stage numerous drills in the new [Iranian] year.
However, despite the rhetoric used by some in Iran's military, Iran's nuclear chief, speaking on Sunday, hinted that the Islamic Republic may offer a compromise ahead of nuclear talks with the West.Over the weekend, Iran indicated it may be willing to reduce the amount of uranium it is enriching to 20%.Based on our needs and once the required fuel is obtained, we will decrease the production and we may even totally shift it to the 3.5%, state-run Press TV quoted Iranian nuclear chief Fereydoun Abbasi as saying in a televised interview.Abbasi told Press TV that Iran does not plan to produce 20% enriched uranium for long.Uranium enriched at 20% is typically used for hospital isotopes and research reactors, but is also a short-cut toward the 90% enrichment required to build nuclear weapons.IAEA experts previously reported Iran's production of 20% enriched uranium is far greater than needed for peaceful purposes. They also note Iran's medical research sector is not sufficiently advanced to justify such production.Analysts say Abbasi's comments may only be a starting point for negotiations as it is less accommodating than statements previously made by a key advisor to Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.Mohammad Javad Larijani said last month that the West should accept Iran's peaceful nuclear program, sell Iran 20 percent enriched uranium, and provide the customary assistance nuclear nations provide to those building nuclear power plants.In return for cooperation from the West Iran would offer full transparency,Larijani said.He did not say Iran would halt uranium enrichment – a key demand by Jerusalem and Washington to avoid military strikes – but observers say the stipulation that the West provide 20% enriched uranium indicates Iran is open to doing so.Iran insists its nuclear program is exclusively for peaceful purposes. However, in early March, the head of the IAEA said there were indications that Iran was engaged in the development of nuclear weapons.Iran is not telling us everything. That is my impression. Recognition of the existence of 'Palestine' as a State was ostensibly given the international imprimatur on 31 October 2011 - when 107 countries voted to admit Palestine as the 195th member state of UNESCO.Palestine’s admission to UNESCO rested upon Article II (2) of UNESCO’s Constitution which states:Subject to the conditions of the Agreement between this Organization and the United Nations Organization, approved pursuant to Article X of this Constitution, states not members of the United Nations Organization may be admitted to membership of the Organization, upon recommendation of the Executive Board, by a two-thirds majority vote of the General Conference.Palestine’s application would presumably have been vetted by UNESCO’s 58 member Executive Board - to make sure Palestine qualified as a state to entitle it to become a member of UNESCO - otherwise the application would have had to be ruled out of order.Article II (2) above indeed makes clear that there had to be a recommendation by the Executive Board.To try and find out how the Executive Board came to its conclusion - I asked UNESCO two questions - to which I received the following answers on 1 December 2011:

Gary Stein be given an other-than-honorable discharge on grounds that he violated good order and discipline by calling Obama a liar and suggesting he would not follow some orders issued by the president, among other comments posted to his Armed Forces Tea Party Facebook page.The board found he also violated rules limiting political conduct by service members.This is not just a First Amendment case, attorney Gary Kreep said on CNN Tuesday.They violated their own rules, they violated their own procedures.Kreep, executive director of the U.S. Justice Foundation, said the panel did not allow Stein's attorneys to present testimony from expert witnesses who would have said that the rule under which the board was recommending Stein's discharge only applies to commissioned officers.Stein said the case against him was weak.They based this on personal opinion, nothing about the legal aspects, he said.The case is now in the hands of Brig. Recognition of the existence of 'Palestine' as a State was ostensibly given the international imprimatur on 31 October 2011 - when 107 countries voted to admit Palestine as the 195th member state of UNESCO.Palestine’s admission to UNESCO rested upon Article II (2) of UNESCO’s Constitution which states:Subject to the conditions of the Agreement between this Organization and the United Nations Organization, approved pursuant to Article X of this Constitution, states not members of the United Nations Organization may be admitted to membership of the Organization, upon recommendation of the Executive Board, by a two-thirds majority vote of the General Conference.Palestine’s application would presumably have been vetted by UNESCO’s 58 member Executive Board - to make sure Palestine qualified as a state to entitle it to become a member of UNESCO - otherwise the application would have had to be ruled out of order.Article II (2) above indeed makes clear that there had to be a recommendation by the Executive Board.To try and find out how the Executive Board came to its conclusion - I asked UNESCO two questions - to which I received the following answers on 1 December 2011:
QUESTION: Did the Secretariat or any other division within UNESCO prepare a report on the status of Palestine to qualify as a state to be admitted to membership of UNESCO? If so could I please be sent a copy.ANSWER: There was no document submitted to the General Conference by the Secretariat relating to the status of Palestine.
QUESTION: On what basis can Palestine qualify to be admitted as a member State of UNESCO when it does not possess the necessary qualifications to be recognized as a State in customary international law as codified in article 1 of the Montevideo Convention 1933? Given the apparent acceptance of Palestine as a state on an equal par with all the other 194 member states of UNESCO - my questions to all of them are:Why is the world not now celebrating the realisation of the two-state solution on 31 October 2011?When will UNWRA be disbanded - now that the State of Palestine exists?Why is the UN still carrying the following outdated material on its website:In late April the Security Council is due to hold its quarterly open debate on the Middle East. The focus of discussion will likely be whether the Quartet has been able to achieve sufficient impetus to break the stalemate in the Israel/Palestine peace process. The Quartet—comprising the EU, Russia, the UN and the US—will next meet on 11 April in Washington, DC.Why waste the Security Council’s time with another debate on efforts to break the stalemate in the Middle East - when the stalemate was broken on 31 October 2011? Isn’t it time the Quartet disbanded and announced the cancellation of its next meeting set for 11 April 2012? Has it any function now - following international recognition by the 194 member states of UNESCO that Palestine is a State? Not one of the 195 member states of UNESCO ( including Palestine itself) can pinpoint the State of Palestine on a map or the boundaries which it encompasses.This surely is testimony to the mess that the world has landed itself in because it has chosen to ignore international law and UNESCO‘s Constitution.The world will have to live with its flight into fantasy and folly and bear the consequences of its unlawful decision.You can't be half pregnant - nor can you be half a state. If you call yourself a State - represent yourself as a State when seeking entry to world organizations - and get accepted on the basis of being a State - then you are a State and should stop efforts in that regard.Time to focus now on the claims of other groups with long standing demands for self determination - such as the Tibetans, the Kurds, the Basques and the Corsicans.They should now all apply to join UNESCO - using Palestine as the precedent - confident in the knowledge that if UNESCO can miraculously turn fiction into fact by recognizing Palestine as a State - it can make the aspirations of these other long suffering people become a similar reality.What is good for the goose must surely be good enough for the gander.

NASA global warming alarmist James Hansen, who previously endorsed a book that called for acts of environmentalist terrorism and genocide to return the planet to the agrarian age, is set to call for a global tax on carbon emissions in an upcoming speech.In his lecture, Hansen will argue that the challenge facing future generations from climate change is so urgent that a flat-rate global tax is needed to force immediate cuts in fossil fuel use, reports the Guardian.Echoing rhetoric that skeptics of the political agenda behind man-made climate change are akin to racists, Hansen characterizes alleged human-induced climate change a great moral issue on a par with slavery.The report admits that the tax would greatly increase the cost of fossil fuel energy even as people struggle with soaring energy costs and that the the carbon levy would increase year on year.The report gives little indication as to how the tax would be collected and by whom, but hints at some kind of hair-brained redistribution of wealth scheme with the promise that the tax would be paid directly back to the public as a dividend, shared equally, rather than put into government coffers.That’s after Hansen’s buddies like Al Gore and Maurice Strong, pioneers of the billion dollar carbon tax boondoggle, have taken their cut of course.Physicist Luboš Motl responded to the speech by pointing out that Hansen is basically calling for a dictatorial global government.People around Hansen have stopped interacting with scientists or sensible people in general many years ago. They’re not even trying to hide anymore that they have switched from attempts to find valid answers to scientific questions – a challenge in which they have failed miserably – to pure political activism. Hansen also wants to introduce a global government:
Under the global carbon tax proposal, the mechanisms for controlling fossil fuel use would be taken out of the hands of individual states influenced by energy companies, and politicians anxious about winning elections.Can you imagine how such a thing could possibly work so that it would be anything else than a global dictatorship? How would this international carbon tax agency behave if they were told the truth, namely that they’re stinky thugs and thieves who should f*ck off and who won’t be given another penny? Would they also have a police or army to fight against the dissatisfied? Does Hansen expect that individual nations will dedicate their army to an international junta whose very open goal is to cripple the nations’ sovereignty and take the power of human fates from the people, something he explicitly states? The comparison with slavery is particularly ironic because Hansen’s plan to introduce a global tax is nothing else than a form of slavery, a method for a self-appointed groups of alarmists to steal money from those who actually work, from those who are creating the values for mankind which often if not usually requires to emit CO2, the gas we call life, along the way, and to force them to work even more intensely in order to compensate for the money lost through the tax.Hansen will make the call for a global tax after receiving the prestigious Edinburgh Medal, an exercise in alarmists back-slapping each other that has previously been bestowed on ecologist James Lovelock, who in 2010 demanded that democracy must be put on hold to combat global warming and that a few people with authority should be allowed to run the planet because people were too stupid to be allowed to steer their own destinies.

Early last year, leaked documents obtained by a Colorado beekeeper exposed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency‘s (EPA) illegitimate approval of clothianidin, a highly-toxic pesticide manufactured by Bayer CropScience that the regulatory agency knew was capable of killing off bees (http://www.naturalnews.com/030921_EPA_pesticides.html).Now, a new study out of Purdue University in Indiana has not only confirmed, once again, that clothianidin is killing off bees, but also that clothianidin’s toxicity is systemic throughout the entire food chain, which could one day lead to the catastrophic destruction of the food supply.The study, which was published in the online journal PLoS ONE, investigated the various methods and routes by which a class of insecticides known as neonicotinoids, which includes clothianidin, are harming honey bees. They discovered that both clothianidin and thiamethoxam, another component of neonicotinoid insecticides, persist in extremely high levels in planter exhaust material produced during the planting of crops treated with these insecticides, which runs contrary to industry claims that the chemicals biodegrade and are not a threat.
The research team also found neonicotinoid compounds in soil, including in fields where the chemicals were not even sprayed, as well as on various plants and flowers visited by bees. Based on their analysis, the researchers involved with the study determined that bees actively transfer contaminated pollen from primarily neonicotinoid-treated corn crops, and bring it back to their hives. This is why Dr. Neil Carman, Ph.D., scientific advisor to Sierra Club, has put out a call for the EPA to immediately ban the use of clothianidin and the other neonicotinoid insecticides for the sake of protecting the food supply from irreversible destruction.

NASA global warming alarmist James Hansen, who previously endorsed a book that called for acts of environmentalist terrorism and genocide to return the planet to the agrarian age, is set to call for a global tax on carbon emissions in an upcoming speech.In his lecture, Hansen will argue that the challenge facing future generations from climate change is so urgent that a flat-rate global tax is needed to force immediate cuts in fossil fuel use, reports the Guardian.Echoing rhetoric that skeptics of the political agenda behind man-made climate change are akin to racists, Hansen characterizes alleged human-induced climate change a great moral issue on a par with slavery.The report admits that the tax would greatly increase the cost of fossil fuel energy even as people struggle with soaring energy costs and that the the carbon levy would increase year on year.The report gives little indication as to how the tax would be collected and by whom, but hints at some kind of hair-brained redistribution of wealth scheme with the promise that the tax would be paid directly back to the public as a dividend, shared equally, rather than put into government coffers.That’s after Hansen’s buddies like Al Gore and Maurice Strong, pioneers of the billion dollar carbon tax boondoggle, have taken their cut of course.Physicist Luboš Motl responded to the speech by pointing out that Hansen is basically calling for a dictatorial global government.People around Hansen have stopped interacting with scientists or sensible people in general many years ago. They’re not even trying to hide anymore that they have switched from attempts to find valid answers to scientific questions – a challenge in which they have failed miserably – to pure political activism. Hansen also wants to introduce a global government:
Under the global carbon tax proposal, the mechanisms for controlling fossil fuel use would be taken out of the hands of individual states influenced by energy companies, and politicians anxious about winning elections.Can you imagine how such a thing could possibly work so that it would be anything else than a global dictatorship? How would this international carbon tax agency behave if they were told the truth, namely that they’re stinky thugs and thieves who should f*ck off and who won’t be given another penny? Would they also have a police or army to fight against the dissatisfied? Does Hansen expect that individual nations will dedicate their army to an international junta whose very open goal is to cripple the nations’ sovereignty and take the power of human fates from the people, something he explicitly states? Has he lost his mind completely? If you’re a maniac who wants to get a control over the mankind against its will, you will have to shoot through all the gates yourself.
The comparison with slavery is particularly ironic because Hansen’s plan to introduce a global tax is nothing else than a form of slavery, a method for a self-appointed groups of alarmists to steal money from those who actually work, from those who are creating the values for mankind which often if not usually requires to emit CO2, the gas we call life, along the way, and to force them to work even more intensely in order to compensate for the money lost through the tax.Hansen will make the call for a global tax after receiving the prestigious Edinburgh Medal, an exercise in alarmists back-slapping each other that has previously been bestowed on ecologist James Lovelock, who in 2010 demanded that democracy must be put on hold to combat global warming and that a few people with authority should be allowed to run the planet because people were too stupid to be allowed to steer their own destinies.
Hansen, head NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, has also advocated extreme and authoritarian measures in the name of saving the planet.In 2010, Hansen endorsed a book written by fellow alarmist Keith Farnish in which the author called for acts of sabotage and environmental terrorism in blowing up dams and demolishing cities in order to return the planet to the agrarian age.The only way to prevent global ecological collapse and thus ensure the survival of humanity is to rid the world of Industrial Civilization,writes Farnish, adding that people will die in huge numbers when civilization collapses.Farnish explains his desire to see rampant population reduction in the name of saving the planet.
In short, the greatest immediate risk to the population living in the conditions created by Industrial Civilization is the population itself. They discovered that both clothianidin and thiamethoxam, another component of neonicotinoid insecticides, persist in extremely high levels in planter exhaust material produced during the planting of crops treated with these insecticides, which runs contrary to industry claims that the chemicals biodegrade and are not a threat.
The research team also found neonicotinoid compounds in soil, including in fields where the chemicals were not even sprayed, as well as on various plants and flowers visited by bees. Based on their analysis, the researchers involved with the study determined that bees actively transfer contaminated pollen from primarily neonicotinoid-treated corn crops, and bring it back to their hives. This research should nail the coffin lid shut on clothianidin, said Laurel Hopwood, chairwoman of the Sierra Club‘sGenetic Engineering Action Team, who is petitioning the EPA to finally ban these chemicals after years of needless delay. “Despite numerous attempts by the beekeeping industry and conservation organizations to persuade the EPA to ban clothianidin, the EPA has failed to protect the food supply for the American people.Without bees, which are now dying off at an alarming rate due to exposure to clothianidin and various other insecticides and fungicides, one third or more of the food supply will be destroyed, including at least 100 varieties of fruits and vegetables that rely on bees for pollination. This is why Dr. Neil Carman, Ph.D., scientific advisor to Sierra Club, has put out a call for the EPA to immediately ban the use of clothianidin and the other neonicotinoid insecticides for the sake of protecting the food supply from irreversible destruction.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is expected to meet Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas later this month, Kol Yisrael radio reported on Wednesday night, citing officials in the PA.According to the report, the meeting will take place after Israeli and Palestinian Authority negotiators will meet for the first time since talks held in Jordan two months ago ended in failure.On Tuesday there were reports of preparations for a meeting between PA negotiator Saeb Erekat and Netanyahu’s envoy Yitzhak Molcho.According to the Kol Yisrael report, during the meeting Molcho will present the PA delegation with a letter to Abbas. The letter, said the report, will express Israel's willingness to resume direct negotiations without preconditions and will highlight the need for the PA to recognize Israel at the end of the process as a Jewish state. The letter will also highlight the need to reace a peace settlement that will ensure the security of Israeli citizens.Earlier this week, Abbas revealed the contents of a letter that he plans to send to Netanyahu, reportedly through Erekat during the meeting with Molcho.
The letter says, according to Abbas’ speech, Because of you, the Palestinian Authority is no longer an authority. You took all its powers and liabilities. We have nothing left, is that acceptable to you or not? Two exploded in open areas and three fell into the sea. No injuries were reported.Rockets were also fired at Eilat in April of 2010. The alert comes as thousands of visitors begin arriving in the resort town of Eilat for the holiday.The move came just one week after IDF chief of staff Benny Gantz said Israel’s military would remain at full strength – but not high alert – over Passover. Gantz’s decision ended the Israeli tradition of the army going on vacation for Passover.The head of Eilat police said explosions were heard in Eilat soon after midnight. Interest rates on the 10-year Spanish government bonds leaped by 28 basis points to 5.7 percent on Wednesday during an auction in which Madrid was able to sell €2.6 billion worth of bonds. The yields are at their highest level since January.The disappointing bond auction comes despite fresh austerity measures announced last week, with budget cuts amounting to €27.3 billion this year. BRUSSELS - The effects of the financial crisis in the EU has resulted in many of the Union's richest member states sharply cutting back aid to developing countries.
Figures released Wednesday (4 April) by the OECD, a Paris-based thinktank, show that debt-ridden Greece - the recipient of two international bailouts - slashed its foreign aid by 39.3 percent in 2011.Spain, now in the midst of an unpredicted recession and under EU pressure to sharply reduce its budget deficit, made a 32.7 percent cut last year.Austria (-14.3%) and Belgium (-13.3%) also made significant cuts. Of the 15 richer EU member state that are part of the OECD's development assistance committee, only three - Germany, Sweden and Italy - increased their donations to poorer countries last year. Italy is on record for a massive 33 percent increase. But this is mostly due to debt forgiveness and increased refugees coming to the country.
By contrast, the six eastern, and poorer, EU member states that are members of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development all increased their foreign aid in 2011.In total, aid given by EU countries fell to 0.42 percent of gross national income in 2011, from 0.44 percent the previous year.The EU decrease is part of a wider trend as countries feel the effects of the global recession, with overall international donations decreasing for the first time in 14 years.Development agencies have strongly criticised decisions to cut foreign aid, saying the moves were often made for political expediency rather than out of necessity.European countries are cutting aid faster than their economies are shrinking. We could see Europe entering an age of aid austerity, pulling back from supporting millions of poor people in developing countries.said Olivier Consolo, Director of Concord, the European Confederation of Relief and Development NGOs.The sweeping cuts to European development aid are inexcusable. This means the world’s poorest people are being made to pay the price of austerity whilst the bank bailouts continue, said Catherine Olier from Oxfam.The NGO noted that the cuts means that the EU is further off-track to meet its promise to give 0.7 percent of national income by 2015 to the poorest having already missed a 2010 target of providing 0.51 percent.It singled out Italy and Austria as countries that need to do more as they currently only give a tiny proportion of their incomes.
The US is the world's biggest donor followed by Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Japan. OECD general secretary Angel Gurría said the aid cuts were a cause for great concern.Aid is only a fraction of total flows to low income countries, but these hard economic times also mean lower investment and lower exports. I commend the countries that are keeping their commitments in spite of tough fiscal consolidation plans. They show that the crisis should not be used as an excuse to reduce development cooperation contributions.

BRUSSELS - A pensioner committed suicide in the centre of Athens Wednesday (4 April) giving a public face to the hardship endured by many Greeks as the country slashes spending to satisfy international creditors.The man, a 77-year-old pharmacist, shot himself in Syntagma Square with some reports saying that he had shouted that he did not want to leave debts to his children.It later emerged that he had left a suicide note.I can’t find another way to react apart from putting a dignified end to things before I start looking through garbage in order to survive and before I become a burden for my child, said the note according to Greek paper Ekathimerini.His exact financial situation remains unclear but reports say he was seriously ill and was struggling to pay for medicine. His suicide prompted a spontaneous gathering of around 2000 people in Syntagma Square later on Wednesday.Peaceful at first, demonstrations turned during violent during the evening, as activists threw rocks and petrol bombs at police, who responded with tear gas and flash grenades.In these difficult times for our country we must all - the state and its citizens - support those next to us who are in despair, said Prime Minister Lucas Papademos.With the number of suicides in Greece having risen sharply in recent years, opposition centre-right leader Antonis Samaras said:I'm shocked, unfortunately this is not the first victim, we have a record rate of suicide. We have to get Greeks out of this despair.

But more austerity cuts are on the way. Clarke has called for the creation of customs checks on all data leaving and entering US cyberspace.Clarke makes the call in relation to Chinese hackers stealing information and intellectual property from US firms.If given the proper authorization, the United States government could stop files in the process of being stolen from getting to the Chinese hackers. Clarke writes.If government agencies were authorized to create a major program to grab stolen data leaving the country, they could drastically reduce today’s wholesale theft of American corporate secrets.
While Clarke may well be coming at this subject well intentioned, the fact that government has a long history of attempting to crackdown on internet freedom and control the web will mean his words are a cause of concern for many.Under Customs authority, the Department of Homeland Security could inspect what enters and exits the United States in cyberspace… Clarke continues.And under the Intelligence Act, the president could issue a finding that would authorize agencies to scan Internet traffic outside the United States and seize sensitive files stolen from within our borders.We have seen with the recent attempts to pass legislation such as SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA, that the federal government is hell bent on skirting around legal oversight in order to seize more control over web content and communications.While those particular bills have more of a focus on copyright protection, there is a huge move afoot to use the issue of cybersecurity as a means to crack down on the free internet.The Obama administration is going all out to muster support in Congress for a bipartisan cybersecurity bill co-sponsored by Republican Senator Susan Collins and Independent Senator Joseph Lieberman and Democratic Senators Jay Rockefeller and Dianne Feinstein.
Critics contend that the bill contains several provisions that represent a sweeping power grab on behalf of the federal government.A measure recently added to the bill by Collins and Lieberman, and supported by Obama, would empower the Department of Homeland Security to conduct risk assessments of private companies in sectors deemed critical to U.S. national and economic security, forcing them to comply with expensive mandates to secure their systems.ISPs AT&T and Comcast have denounced the provision, declaring that federal oversight will stifle innovation.Such requirements could have an unintended stifling effect on making real cybersecurity improvements, Edward Amoroso, chief security officer for Dallas-based AT&T, said in testimony at a recent hearing. Cyber adversaries are dynamic and increasingly sophisticated, and do not operate under a laboriously defined set of rules or processes.As we have previously reported, the bill originally legislated for an Internet kill switch that would allow the President to shut down parts of the Internet in an emergency.There are a whole host of other cybersecurity bills in the works including a GOP bill, co-sponsored by John McCain known as The Secure IT Act, and a newly introduced GOP bill known as The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA), sponsored by Michigan Republican Mike Rogers.All of the bills have the same vague wording and do not clearly define what a cybersecurity threat is. The Rogers bill gives companies a free pass to monitor and collect communications and share that data with the government and other companies, so long as they do so for cybersecurity purposes,the EFF said in a blog post.Just invoking cybersecurity threats’ is enough to grant companies immunity from nearly all civil and criminal liability, effectively creating an exemption from all existing law.Kendall Burman of the Center for Democracy and Technology spoke about CISPA in an interview with RT:We have a number of concerns with something like this bill that creates sort of a vast hole in the privacy law to allow government to receive these kinds of information.

About 12 tonnes of radioactive water is believed to have leaked from the Fukushima plant into the ocean.About 12 tonnes of water contaminated with radiation has leaked from Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear plant.Plant operator TEPCO believes most of the water flowed into the Pacific Ocean. It says the contaminated water leaked from a treatment pipe.The water contained radioactive strontium which tends to accumulate in bones and can cause leukaemia.It is the second time in two weeks there has been a leak of contaminated water from the nuclear plant, prompting yet another apology from TEPCO.About 120 tonnes of radioactive water leaked at the plant's water decontamination system last month and about 80 litres seeped into the ocean, according to TEPCO.The water, once it has been used to cool the reactors, contains massive amounts of radioactive substances and is put into the water-processing facility so it can be recycled for use as a coolant.Our officials confirmed that cooling water leaked at a joint in the pipes, a TEPCO spokesman said, adding that it is possible that part of the water may have flowed outside the facility and poured into the ocean.
The leak has since been plugged, the spokesman added, saying the utility was probing the cause of the accident and how much, if any, water flowed into the Pacific.The plant, about 220 kilometres north-east of Tokyo was crippled by meltdowns and explosions caused by Japan's massive earthquake and tsunami in March last year.

Poking fun at a public figure who openly calls for skeptics of man-made global warming to be treated as a way of re-educating them is apparently off limits for You Tube, who censored a video in which Alex Jones used absurdist satire as a vehicle to illustrate the crackpot and dangerous beliefs of University of Oregon Professor Kari Norgaard.As we documented last week, during a climate change conference in London which promoted the idea of forcibly imprisoning humans in ghetto prison cities for the good of the earth, Norgaard presented a paper in which she characterized doubts about anthropogenic climate change as both racist and a sickness for which individuals need to be treated.The video, which can be viewed above via Blip.tv, contains a clip from Infowars Nightly News in which Alex Jones gives Professor Norgaard the coveted Skeksy Award, which is reserved for only the most ardent promoters of tyranny and authoritarianism.After Rush Limbaugh also directed scorn at Norgaard’s work, the University of Oregon had to back down and claim the inclusion of the word treated in the press release describing Norgaard’s paper was a mistake. Norgaard is now being framed at the victim of the whole piece, despite the fact that her dangerously authoritarian tendencies are shared by a raft of other prominent global warming alarmists.
Indeed, videos made by global warming alarmist groups showing children being blown up and having their guts splatted everywhere for not reducing their carbon footprint are apparently fine by You Tube, but suggesting Norgaard isn’t the most attractive woman on the planet is tantamount to hate speech.The humor directed at Norgaard is at worst sophomoric – it can hardly be described as being designed to harass, bully or threaten,which are the labels You Tube applied in deleting the clip and placing a strike against the Alex Jones Channel.This is straight out of the playbook of Obama’s information czar Cass Sunstein, who in a 2008 paper advocated taxing or outright banning political ideas not approved of by the establishment – including skepticism of man-made global warming.The Community Guidelines warning strike (see it here), cautions that the account is not in good standing because a You Tube user flagged the Norgaard video as having violated You Tube’s community guidelines which pertain to preventing, predatory behavior, stalking, threats, harassment, intimidation, invading privacy, revealing other people’s personal information, and inciting others to commit violent acts.When an account is considered by You Tube to be not in good standing,privileges are removed and repeated violations can result in termination of the account altogether, and with it the loss of tens of millions of video views and hundreds of thousands of subscribers.
This not only illustrates You Tube’s contempt for free speech – far more repulsive clips are routinely allowed on the platform without a whimper of complaint – it also underscores the dangers of how giant social media websites are taking over the web by forcing, through sheer weight of numbers, everyone to host their content with them and then that content being subject to selectively enforced censorship policies.
It also offers an insight into the mindset of the individual that flagged the video for You Tube’s censors to kill it. Global warming alarmists are so vehemently losing the debate on man-made climate change that they have openly resorted to attempting to crush the free speech of their ideological opponents in a bid to silence debate.
Indeed, as we documented on Monday, global warming alarmists have stripped away the veneer of their liberal, touchy-feely rhetoric in recent years to stridently call for the abolition of freedom and democracy, with some even advocating that climate change skeptics be forcibly re-educated, incarcerated in concentration camps, treated like Nazi war criminals, or even executed.While some may find it offensive that Jones referred to Norgaard in a derogatory manner, what’s a thousand times more offensive is her gall in brazenly advocating that anyone who dares challenge the man-made global warming mantra be treated, presumably with the aid of pharmaceutical drugs, for having a psychiatric disorder, or that they be smeared as racists simply for disagreeing on a highly contentious scientific issue.Not challenging that kind of arcane, ludicrous and despotic rhetoric, which has been embraced by others in the scientific field, is far more dangerous than Alex Jones cracking jokes about Norgaard being a stereotypical cat lady.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is expected to meet Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas later this month, Kol Yisrael radio reported on Wednesday night, citing officials in the PA.According to the report, the meeting will take place after Israeli and Palestinian Authority negotiators will meet for the first time since talks held in Jordan two months ago ended in failure.On Tuesday there were reports of preparations for a meeting between PA negotiator Saeb Erekat and Netanyahu’s envoy Yitzhak Molcho.According to the Kol Yisrael report, during the meeting Molcho will present the PA delegation with a letter to Abbas. The letter, said the report, will express Israel's willingness to resume direct negotiations without preconditions and will highlight the need for the PA to recognize Israel at the end of the process as a Jewish state. The letter will also highlight the need to reace a peace settlement that will ensure the security of Israeli citizens.Earlier this week, Abbas revealed the contents of a letter that he plans to send to Netanyahu, reportedly through Erekat during the meeting with Molcho.

Two exploded in open areas and three fell into the sea. No injuries were reported.Rockets were also fired at Eilat in April of 2010. Interest rates on the 10-year Spanish government bonds leaped by 28 basis points to 5.7 percent on Wednesday during an auction in which Madrid was able to sell €2.6 billion worth of bonds. The yields are at their highest level since January.The disappointing bond auction comes despite fresh austerity measures announced last week, with budget cuts amounting to €27.3 billion this year. BRUSSELS - The effects of the financial crisis in the EU has resulted in many of the Union's richest member states sharply cutting back aid to developing countries.
Figures released Wednesday (4 April) by the OECD, a Paris-based thinktank, show that debt-ridden Greece - the recipient of two international bailouts - slashed its foreign aid by 39.3 percent in 2011.Spain, now in the midst of an unpredicted recession and under EU pressure to sharply reduce its budget deficit, made a 32.7 percent cut last year.Austria (-14.3%) and Belgium (-13.3%) also made significant cuts. Of the 15 richer EU member state that are part of the OECD's development assistance committee, only three - Germany, Sweden and Italy - increased their donations to poorer countries last year. Italy is on record for a massive 33 percent increase. But this is mostly due to debt forgiveness and increased refugees coming to the country.
By contrast, the six eastern, and poorer, EU member states that are members of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development all increased their foreign aid in 2011.In total, aid given by EU countries fell to 0.42 percent of gross national income in 2011, from 0.44 percent the previous year.The EU decrease is part of a wider trend as countries feel the effects of the global recession, with overall international donations decreasing for the first time in 14 years.Development agencies have strongly criticised decisions to cut foreign aid, saying the moves were often made for political expediency rather than out of necessity.European countries are cutting aid faster than their economies are shrinking. We could see Europe entering an age of aid austerity, pulling back from supporting millions of poor people in developing countries.said Olivier Consolo, Director of Concord, the European Confederation of Relief and Development NGOs.The sweeping cuts to European development aid are inexcusable. This means the world’s poorest people are being made to pay the price of austerity whilst the bank bailouts continue, said Catherine Olier from Oxfam.The NGO noted that the cuts means that the EU is further off-track to meet its promise to give 0.7 percent of national income by 2015 to the poorest having already missed a 2010 target of providing 0.51 percent.It singled out Italy and Austria as countries that need to do more as they currently only give a tiny proportion of their incomes.
The US is the world's biggest donor followed by Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Japan. OECD general secretary Angel Gurría said the aid cuts were a cause for great concern.Aid is only a fraction of total flows to low income countries, but these hard economic times also mean lower investment and lower exports. I commend the countries that are keeping their commitments in spite of tough fiscal consolidation plans. They show that the crisis should not be used as an excuse to reduce development cooperation contributions.

BRUSSELS - A pensioner committed suicide in the centre of Athens Wednesday (4 April) giving a public face to the hardship endured by many Greeks as the country slashes spending to satisfy international creditors.The man, a 77-year-old pharmacist, shot himself in Syntagma Square with some reports saying that he had shouted that he did not want to leave debts to his children.It later emerged that he had left a suicide note.I can’t find another way to react apart from putting a dignified end to things before I start looking through garbage in order to survive and before I become a burden for my child, said the note according to Greek paper Ekathimerini.His exact financial situation remains unclear but reports say he was seriously ill and was struggling to pay for medicine. His suicide prompted a spontaneous gathering of around 2000 people in Syntagma Square later on Wednesday.Peaceful at first, demonstrations turned during violent during the evening, as activists threw rocks and petrol bombs at police, who responded with tear gas and flash grenades.In these difficult times for our country we must all - the state and its citizens - support those next to us who are in despair, said Prime Minister Lucas Papademos.With the number of suicides in Greece having risen sharply in recent years, opposition centre-right leader Antonis Samaras said:I'm shocked, unfortunately this is not the first victim, we have a record rate of suicide. We have to get Greeks out of this despair.
The pensioner's apparent struggle to pay medical bill comes as Papademos' government has made massive spending cuts in the face of demands by the EU partners and IMF, which have agreed to give the country two loans: €110bn in 2010 and €130bn earlier this year.The cuts have seen unemployment shoot up while salaries and pension have dropped. But more austerity cuts are on the way. The carnage will go on for many years.Saudi Arabia and Qatar have backed the idea of arming the opposition but the West remains opposed. Nineteen Jerusalem Arabs have been arrested with various forms of attacks on Jewish drivers passing through the capital.Police officers and personnel from the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) arrested 19 residents of the A-Tur neighbor in a sting operation Thursday.All of those arrested were charged with hurling firebombs, firecrackers and rocks at vehicles with Israeli license plates. The suspects are also accused of torching vehicles.Arab attackers in Jerusalem – and elsewhere – have grown increasingly bold over the past few weeks.An Israeli man was wounded last week in a rock throwing attack near the Mount of Olives cemetery.In the same week, a Jewish motorist barely escaped with his life after an Arab mob attacked his vehicle as he drove through the neighborhood of Wadi Al-Joz. Attackers hurled dozens of rocks and a concrete block at the car, smashing the windshield and wounding the driver.

In a New York Times editorial, former government cybersecurity czar Richard A. Clarke has called for the creation of customs checks on all data leaving and entering US cyberspace.Clarke makes the call in relation to Chinese hackers stealing information and intellectual property from US firms.If given the proper authorization, the United States government could stop files in the process of being stolen from getting to the Chinese hackers. Clarke writes.If government agencies were authorized to create a major program to grab stolen data leaving the country, they could drastically reduce today’s wholesale theft of American corporate secrets.
While Clarke may well be coming at this subject well intentioned, the fact that government has a long history of attempting to crackdown on internet freedom and control the web will mean his words are a cause of concern for many.Under Customs authority, the Department of Homeland Security could inspect what enters and exits the United States in cyberspace… Clarke continues.And under the Intelligence Act, the president could issue a finding that would authorize agencies to scan Internet traffic outside the United States and seize sensitive files stolen from within our borders.We have seen with the recent attempts to pass legislation such as SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA, that the federal government is hell bent on skirting around legal oversight in order to seize more control over web content and communications.While those particular bills have more of a focus on copyright protection, there is a huge move afoot to use the issue of cybersecurity as a means to crack down on the free internet.The Obama administration is going all out to muster support in Congress for a bipartisan cybersecurity bill co-sponsored by Republican Senator Susan Collins and Independent Senator Joseph Lieberman and Democratic Senators Jay Rockefeller and Dianne Feinstein.
Critics contend that the bill contains several provisions that represent a sweeping power grab on behalf of the federal government.A measure recently added to the bill by Collins and Lieberman, and supported by Obama, would empower the Department of Homeland Security to conduct risk assessments of private companies in sectors deemed critical to U.S. national and economic security, forcing them to comply with expensive mandates to secure their systems.ISPs AT&T and Comcast have denounced the provision, declaring that federal oversight will stifle innovation.Such requirements could have an unintended stifling effect on making real cybersecurity improvements, Edward Amoroso, chief security officer for Dallas-based AT&T, said in testimony at a recent hearing. Cyber adversaries are dynamic and increasingly sophisticated, and do not operate under a laboriously defined set of rules or processes.As we have previously reported, the bill originally legislated for an Internet kill switch that would allow the President to shut down parts of the Internet in an emergency.There are a whole host of other cybersecurity bills in the works including a GOP bill, co-sponsored by John McCain known as The Secure IT Act, and a newly introduced GOP bill known as The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA), sponsored by Michigan Republican Mike Rogers.All of the bills have the same vague wording and do not clearly define what a cybersecurity threat is. This has prompted groups such as The Electronic Freedom Foundation and The Center for Democracy and Technology to speak out about what they see as legislating for broad information sharing between private companies and the government for ill-defined purposes.
The Rogers bill gives companies a free pass to monitor and collect communications and share that data with the government and other companies, so long as they do so for cybersecurity purposes,the EFF said in a blog post.Just invoking cybersecurity threats’ is enough to grant companies immunity from nearly all civil and criminal liability, effectively creating an exemption from all existing law.Kendall Burman of the Center for Democracy and Technology spoke about CISPA in an interview with RT:We have a number of concerns with something like this bill that creates sort of a vast hole in the privacy law to allow government to receive these kinds of information.
Burman added that the bill, as it stands, allows the U.S. government to involve itself in any online correspondence if it believes there is reason to suspect cyber crime, which it does not even clearly define.Watch the interview:

How Did Enviro-pig Almost Pass; What Changed? Health Canada doesn’t conduct its own GM tests. They rely on United Nations Codex guidelines and refer to the FDA, also pointing to Codex. They were also taking the word of University of Guelph data. Canadian and US regulatory guidelines allowed for the approval of the GM animals at any time.Pork producers were afraid to associate with Enviro-pig for fear of bad public relations. Enviro-pig is safely off the shelf thanks to concerned farmers and activists like you creating more awareness. Especially the tenacious efforts of CBAN. As we can see, the closed research was more a result of consumer reaction and activism than anything else. About 12 tonnes of radioactive water is believed to have leaked from the Fukushima plant into the ocean.About 12 tonnes of water contaminated with radiation has leaked from Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear plant.Plant operator TEPCO believes most of the water flowed into the Pacific Ocean. It says the contaminated water leaked from a treatment pipe.The water contained radioactive strontium which tends to accumulate in bones and can cause leukaemia.It is the second time in two weeks there has been a leak of contaminated water from the nuclear plant, prompting yet another apology from TEPCO.About 120 tonnes of radioactive water leaked at the plant's water decontamination system last month and about 80 litres seeped into the ocean, according to TEPCO.The water, once it has been used to cool the reactors, contains massive amounts of radioactive substances and is put into the water-processing facility so it can be recycled for use as a coolant.Our officials confirmed that cooling water leaked at a joint in the pipes, a TEPCO spokesman said, adding that it is possible that part of the water may have flowed outside the facility and poured into the ocean.
The leak has since been plugged, the spokesman added, saying the utility was probing the cause of the accident and how much, if any, water flowed into the Pacific.The plant, about 220 kilometres north-east of Tokyo was crippled by meltdowns and explosions caused by Japan's massive earthquake and tsunami in March last year.
Radiation was scattered over a large area and made its way into the sea, air and food chain in the weeks and months after the disaster.Tens of thousands of people were evacuated from their homes around the plant and swathes of the zone remain badly polluted.The clean-up is proceeding slowly, amid warnings that some towns could be uninhabitable for three decades.ABC/AFP

Poking fun at a public figure who openly calls for skeptics of man-made global warming to be treated as a way of re-educating them is apparently off limits for You Tube, who censored a video in which Alex Jones used absurdist satire as a vehicle to illustrate the crackpot and dangerous beliefs of University of Oregon Professor Kari Norgaard.As we documented last week, during a climate change conference in London which promoted the idea of forcibly imprisoning humans in ghetto prison cities for the good of the earth, Norgaard presented a paper in which she characterized doubts about anthropogenic climate change as both racist and a sickness for which individuals need to be treated.The video, which can be viewed above via Blip.tv, contains a clip from Infowars Nightly News in which Alex Jones gives Professor Norgaard the coveted Skeksy Award, which is reserved for only the most ardent promoters of tyranny and authoritarianism.After Rush Limbaugh also directed scorn at Norgaard’s work, the University of Oregon had to back down and claim the inclusion of the word treated in the press release describing Norgaard’s paper was a mistake. Norgaard is now being framed at the victim of the whole piece, despite the fact that her dangerously authoritarian tendencies are shared by a raft of other prominent global warming alarmists.
Indeed, videos made by global warming alarmist groups showing children being blown up and having their guts splatted everywhere for not reducing their carbon footprint are apparently fine by You Tube, but suggesting Norgaard isn’t the most attractive woman on the planet is tantamount to hate speech.The humor directed at Norgaard is at worst sophomoric – it can hardly be described as being designed to harass, bully or threaten,which are the labels You Tube applied in deleting the clip and placing a strike against the Alex Jones Channel.This is straight out of the playbook of Obama’s information czar Cass Sunstein, who in a 2008 paper advocated taxing or outright banning political ideas not approved of by the establishment – including skepticism of man-made global warming.The Community Guidelines warning strike (see it here), cautions that the account is not in good standing because a You Tube user flagged the Norgaard video as having violated You Tube’s community guidelines which pertain to preventing, predatory behavior, stalking, threats, harassment, intimidation, invading privacy, revealing other people’s personal information, and inciting others to commit violent acts.When an account is considered by You Tube to be not in good standing,privileges are removed and repeated violations can result in termination of the account altogether, and with it the loss of tens of millions of video views and hundreds of thousands of subscribers.
This not only illustrates You Tube’s contempt for free speech – far more repulsive clips are routinely allowed on the platform without a whimper of complaint – it also underscores the dangers of how giant social media websites are taking over the web by forcing, through sheer weight of numbers, everyone to host their content with them and then that content being subject to selectively enforced censorship policies.
It also offers an insight into the mindset of the individual that flagged the video for You Tube’s censors to kill it. Global warming alarmists are so vehemently losing the debate on man-made climate change that they have openly resorted to attempting to crush the free speech of their ideological opponents in a bid to silence debate.
Indeed, as we documented on Monday, global warming alarmists have stripped away the veneer of their liberal, touchy-feely rhetoric in recent years to stridently call for the abolition of freedom and democracy, with some even advocating that climate change skeptics be forcibly re-educated, incarcerated in concentration camps, treated like Nazi war criminals, or even executed.While some may find it offensive that Jones referred to Norgaard in a derogatory manner, what’s a thousand times more offensive is her gall in brazenly advocating that anyone who dares challenge the man-made global warming mantra be treated, presumably with the aid of pharmaceutical drugs, for having a psychiatric disorder, or that they be smeared as racists simply for disagreeing on a highly contentious scientific issue.Not challenging that kind of arcane, ludicrous and despotic rhetoric, which has been embraced by others in the scientific field, is far more dangerous than Alex Jones cracking jokes about Norgaard being a stereotypical cat lady.
