Costco Announces Company will Continue to Carry My Pillow Products and Honor Contract-By Jim Hoft-Published January 24, 2021 at 9:12am

Earlier this week Kohl’s and Bed Bath and Beyond announced they will stop selling “My Pillow” products after CEO Mike Lindell challenged the 2020 election results. On Saturday dozens of patriotic Americans protested at the local Bed, Bath and Beyond after the company announced earlier this week they would discontinue carrying the “My Pillow” products. This weekend Costco announced they will continue to honor their contract with My Pillow.MSN reported:Tucked alongside promotional events on Costco’s website for men’s suits, mattresses and Vitamix blenders is MyPillow, the embattled pillow company.Costco, in contrast to Bed, Bath and Beyond, Wayfair and other retailers that announced an eventual stoppage of MyPillow sales, shows no signs of ending its “special events” despite MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell’s seeming support of President Donald Trump invoking martial law during the final days of his presidency. The beloved wholesale retailer features “special events” showcasing MyPillow’s Giza cotton sheets, pillows and mattress toppers scheduled nationwide through the end of February.A Costco representative told SFGATE: “We have contractual commitments to MyPillow that we intend to honor, as we seek to do with all of our suppliers.”

A Coast priest called Biden ‘an embarrassment to Catholicism.’ Did he break IRS rules? By Isabelle Taft-October 21, 2020 05:50 AM

Sister Mary Kealy joined the convent with the presentation sisters as a teenager and left her home in Ireland at the age of 22 to come to Gulfport, Mississippi. For more than 55 years she's touch the lives of members of the church and the Coast. By Alyssa Newton-On Sunday, a Bay St. Louis priest took the pulpit at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church to deliver a homily entitled “Joe Biden is an embarrassment to Catholicism.”The Rev. Michael O’Connor argued that Biden “masquerades as Catholic” and that his stances on abortion and gay marriage are incompatible with the teachings of the church. The homily was posted to the church’s YouTube page.By taking such an explicit stance on one of the two major-party candidates running for president, the priest toed a legal line: the Internal Revenue Service prohibits churches, as tax-exempt organizations, from endorsing or opposing candidates for office. The agency’s rules say that if churches intervene in political campaigns, they risk losing tax-exempt status. A religious leader’s political activities are attributed to their organization if they are undertaken during worship services, as O’Connor’s remarks were.In an interview with the Sun Herald, O’Connor said he knew his remarks might be controversial, but he wasn’t concerned. He invoked the example of Jesus Christ, who was “crucified for speaking the truth.”He said he did not believe he had violated tax laws because he had not explicitly endorsed a candidate.“I was highlighting the Catholic moral teachings,” he said.Politics or morality? The homily offered a response to one of the day’s readings, Matthew 22:15-21. The passage describes how in an effort to force Jesus to take an unpopular stance on a divisive issue, the Pharisees and Herodians, united only in their disdain for him, ask whether it is lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar. Jesus sees through the trap and gives a seemingly straightforward answer.“Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God,” he replies.-Transfer of Power-A special newsletter from our D.C. Bureau focused on transition to the Biden administration. But religious scholars are divided about what exactly Jesus meant. And 2,000 years later, the distinction between Caesar and God— between politics and morality — is rarely clear, scholars say, given that in a democracy, our laws are intended to reflect communal understandings of right and wrong.Though O’Connor says he was speaking only about Catholic moral principles, coming just two weeks before Election Day, the homily sounded distinctly political to many who commented on Facebook.“Joe Biden embraces teachings that are absolutely and fundamentally opposed to the priorities of our church to protect life, to protect the sanctity and the holiness of marriage,” O’Connor said. “He is in some respects an embarrassment to Catholicism.”O’Connor criticized Biden’s stance on gay marriage, saying that marriage is “a union of one man and one woman.”He also suggested that the Democratic candidate had taken his cues on morality from former cardinal Theodore McCarrick, who was removed from the priesthood after numerous accusations of sexual abuse of minors and adults.“I fear that Joe Biden has had bad shepherds, bad teachers,” he said. “Maybe Cardinal McCarrick was his cardinal or priest.”What does the law say? Though O’Connor’s criticism of Biden was sharp, Philip Hackney, associate professor of law at the University of Pittsburgh and an expert on tax-exempt organiztions, said it’s not clear that it crossed the line into activity prohibited by the Internal Revenue Service.“Some might conclude that he has, others might conclude that he has not,” Hackney said. There aren’t many high-profile cases of the IRS revoking a church’s tax-exempt status based on its political activities, and the precedents that do exist differ from O’Connor’s homily in some significant ways.Just before the 1992 election, a church in Binghamton, New York, placed a full-page advertisement in USA Today and the Washington Times. The ad claimed Bill Clinton supported abortion on demand and distributing condoms in schools. “How then can we vote for Bill Clinton?” it concluded. The IRS revoked the church’s tax-exempt status, and a federal appeals court upheld that move.In 2004, a religious nonprofit called Catholic Answers distributed voter guides and a series of newsletters claiming John Kerry should not receive communion. The IRS found the nonprofit had broken the rules.Starting in 2008, a conservative Christian organization called Alliance Defending Freedom organized an annual event called Pulpit Freedom Sunday. Participating pastors preached on explicitly political topics, recorded their sermons, and sent the tapes to the IRS in the hopes of triggering an investigation. Then, the investigated church could launch a lawsuit to challenge the constitutionality of restricting churches’ political speech. The IRS never took the bait. In 2009, the agency essentially stopped auditing churches after a court sided with a Minnesota church that challenged the legitimacy of its audit. The court said the IRS needed to clarify which officials have the authority to initiate investigations into churches. But the IRS hasn’t done that.In 2014, a Mississippi church paid for an ad supporting then-U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran. The IRS didn’t get involved.Hackney said the IRS doesn’t have much appetite for picking fights with politicking pastors.“Going after churches is not popular generally,” he said.A divided Catholic community-On Facebook, the clip of O’Connor’s drew nearly 300 shares and almost 400 comments. Most of them were supportive.“Thank you so much father Mike for being so brave and saying what should be said in all Catholic Churches,” wrote the top commenter.A few were critical.“Fr Mike — you need to leave politics out of your sermon. Make your opinion (and that’s exactly what that is) at the voting booth,” one man commented. One woman wrote that she planned to write the Biloxi diocese to share her frustrations with the homily.“Jesus should be our judge, not the Priest,” she wrote. The debate mirrored a national conversation in the Catholic community over Biden’s candidacy and his faith. From La Crosse, Wisconsin to Providence, Rhode Island, bishops and priests have criticized Biden, who could become the country’s second Catholic president, and Catholics who are considering supporting him.But other Catholic leaders have pushed back. San Diego Bishop Robert McElroy argued that attacks on Biden’s faith place undue weight on abortion and “reduce Catholic social teaching to a single issue.” La Crosse Bishop William Patrick Callahan chastised Father James Altman for saying, “You cannot be Catholic and be a Democrat. Period.”In a statement to the Washington Times, Callahan said Altman’s words came across “as angry and judgmental, lacking any charity and in a way that causes scandal both in the Church and in society.”By Tuesday morning, the Biloxi Diocese had not returned a request for comment.Read more here: https://www.sunherald.com/news/politics-government/article246560358.html#storylink=cpy

REMINDER: For Years Democrats and the Far Left Media Called for Violence and Murder of Donald Trump — They Need to Shut Up Already About Violent Trump Supporters-By Jim Hoft-Published January 24, 2021 at 9:55am

For YEARS Democrats and far left thought leaders called for violence and murder against President Trump, his family, and his supporters. They weren’t shy about it. And their supporters loved and cheered the calls to violence.Since protesters stormed the US Capitol on January 6th the mainstream fake news media continues to report on the incident as a “terrorist attack” and “insurrection” acting as if this horrible event was the worst act of violence in Washington DC history.Democrats forget that they were cheering violence against President Trump and his supporters for 4 straight years.Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene posted a video collection of prominent leftists and Democrats calling for violence these past four years. This is quite a collection.Remember this the next time Pelosi or CNN starts to lecture. They are all on record in their own words promoting and approving violence against President Trump and his supporters. We will never forget.Have they condemned any of it? IED Explosion Reported at Los Angeles Church That Was Recently Criticized for ‘Anti-LGBT’ Language by Southern Poverty Law Center-By Cassandra Fairbanks-Published January 24, 2021 at 9:21am

The El Monte Police Department and FBI officials are investigating an explosion and vandalism at a Los Angeles church that was recently criticized for “anti-LGBT language.”The First Works Baptist Church is part of a network of churches that have been criticized by the far-left extremists at the Southern Poverty Law Center.Police Chief David Reynoso said the incident took place overnight on Saturday and that they believe the explosion was from an “improvised explosive device.”Obscenities and the words “get out” were also found spray-painted on the front of the church.Bruce Mejia, the pastor of First Works, said that they had reported an arson threat they received on social media two weeks ago to police. A protest was also planned for the morning after the explosion, but was cancelled due to the bombing.“The church has been the subject of criticism in the community, and a petition calling on El Monte’s mayor to recognize the church as a hate group and ‘take them out of our city,’ has received more than 15,000 signatures,” the Hill reports.Laura Eimiller, a spokeswoman for the FBI’s Los Angeles field office, said that they do not currently have a suspect in custody or a motive for the attack, according to a report from the New York Times.“We have not ruled anything out,” Eimiller said. The Los Angeles branch of the FBI put out a public call for information about the attack on social media.“The FBI responded overnight with @elmontepolice & @LASDHQ to an #IED attack at the First Works Baptist Church in El Monte, CA. Republican lawmaker with gun sets off House chamber metal detector-Representative Andy Harris of Maryland triggers alarm with concealed firearm, tries to pass it off to another GOP Congress member-By Matthew Daly-JAN 23,21-Today, 3:30 am

WASHINGTON (AP) — Capitol Police are investigating an incident in which a Republican lawmaker was blocked from entering the House chamber after setting off a metal detector while apparently carrying a concealed gun.Representative Andy Harris, a Maryland Republican, set off the metal detector while trying to enter the chamber Thursday afternoon. The metal detectors were installed after the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol, which left five people dead, including a Capitol police officer. The incident was witnessed by a reporter from the HuffPost website. After setting off the machine, Harris was asked to step aside for further screening. At that time, an officer discovered Harris was carrying a concealed gun on his side, according to the reporter. The officer sent Harris away, at which point Harris tried to get Representative John Katko, a New York Republican, to take the gun from him. Katko refused, telling Harris he didn’t have a license to carry a gun. Harris eventually left and returned less than 10 minutes later. He once again went through security and did not set off the magnetometer. He was then allowed to enter the House floor.Harris, in his sixth term representing Maryland’s Eastern Shore, issued a statement through his chief of staff, Bryan Shuy.Because his and his family’s lives have been threatened by someone who has been released awaiting trial, for security reasons, the congressman never confirms whether he nor anyone else he’s with are carrying a firearm for self-defense,” the statement said. “As a matter of public record, he has a Maryland Handgun Permit. And the congressman always complies with the House metal detectors and wanding. The Congressman has never carried a firearm on the House floor.”Eva Malecki, a spokeswoman for Capitol Police, said the incident is being investigated. The public is not allowed to carry guns on Capitol grounds, but members of Congress may keep firearms in their offices or transport them on the Capitol grounds if they are unloaded and securely wrapped. Lawmakers are not allowed to bring guns into either the House or Senate chambers.Freshman Representative Lauren Boebert, a Colorado Republican, has said she’ll carry a gun in Washington, DC, which does not allow the open carrying of a firearm. Fellow freshman Representative Madison Cawthorn, a North Carolina Republican, told a North Carolina newspaper that he was armed when a mob that supported former president Donald Trump stormed the Capitol.Since the metal detectors were installed last week, most House members have followed police orders and gone through the devices to enter the House chamber, but some Republicans — including Boebert and Harris — initially sidestepped the machines or refused to be checked with wands after they set it off. Capitol Police have now placed desks and velvet ropes near the metal detectors to block anyone from walking around the machines.House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, has proposed a rule that would fine members who bypass the metal detector $5,000 for their first offense and $10,000 for their second. The fines are not yet in effect, because the House has not adopted the rule.A spokesman for Cawthorn declined Friday to say where, exactly, the congressman was while armed on January 6.Cawthorn “practices his 2nd Amendment rights, as well as privileges accorded to him as a member of Congress. Representative Cawthorn also respects and adheres to instructions from the Capitol Police,” said spokesman Micah Bock.

Rabbi starts praying for president again after Trump departs-In 2017, Shmuly Yanklowitz drew attention for new prayer beseeching God to guide ‘leader of this country away from his basest instincts, thwart his plans to target certain groups’By Shira Hanau-JAN 23,21-Today, 7:33 aM

JTA — When Donald Trump became president of the United States in 2017, Rabbi Shmuly Yanklowitz felt he could no longer say the standard prayer for the United States government that is recited in most Modern Orthodox congregations.Yanklowitz, who is president and dean of the Valley Beit Midrash in Phoenix, was far from the only person to feel distraught over Trump’s election or to feel discomfort with praying for the Trump administration. But few took it as far as he did, writing a new prayer for the nation to recite each week in place of the traditional prayer for the government.“Guide the incoming leader of this country away from his basest instincts, thwart his plans to target certain groups and strengthen white supremacy; for You know, God, that all were created in Your image,” his prayer read. Now, with Trump out of the White House and Joe Biden installed in the Oval Office, Yanklowitz says he will resume reciting the standard prayer.Thank G-d, this Shabbat, I’m excited to return to praying for the success of our President!” he wrote in a Facebook post Friday afternoon.Yanklowitz also wrote that he had stuck to his previous decision despite a negative response from some. “I got beaten up really, really badly for it, but I just believed too deeply in the power of prayer and could not open my soul to Divine requests that I fundamentally disagreed with,” he wrote.Jews have long prayed for the well-being of the governments under which they live. The idea goes back as far as the prophet Jeremiah, who told the Jews who were exiled to Babylon to “seek the welfare of the city to which I have exiled you and pray to the Lord in its behalf; for in its prosperity you shall prosper.” The first official Jewish prayer for the welfare of the state and its governing officials was introduced in prayer books in the 14th century. The standard prayer for government recited in Modern Orthodox synagogues asks God to “bless the president, the vice president, and all the constituted officers of government of this land” and to “protect them from every trouble, woe, and injury, may he rescue them and put into their hearts and into the hearts of all their councilors compassion to do good with us and with all Israel, our brethren.”

Analysis-‘Erratic’ or ‘Strategic Clarity’: What to make of Trump’s Middle East legacy? Experts from Israel and abroad weigh in on how the unconventional tenure of the 45th president changed the region — for good and for bad-By Lazar Berman    Today, 4:07 am 3

Donald Trump broke with bipartisan convention in his Middle East policy. Some say he overturned stagnant conventional wisdom that rewarded foes while punishing allies.Others argue that the former president damaged American interests and abandoned its long-standing commitments in the region. The Times of Israel asked experts in Israel and abroad for their take on Trump’s lasting impact on the Middle East. The Trump presidency represented a watershed for the Middle East, a completely unexpected transformation. Pre-Trump, the region remained largely static, with accepted wisdom guiding both Democratic and Republic presidents to a series of similar policies. In retrospect, that willingness to accept the conventional, academic platitudes about how to best manage Middle East policy was foolish. Doing the same thing time and again and expecting different results may not be the definition of insanity in policy, but it is surely the definition of incompetence and laziness. Most observers can repeat the mantras of those failed policies: The road to peace in the Middle East runs through Ramallah (Jerusalem); Sunnis and Shiites (and Jews) can never work together; the Arab world will never accept a Jewish state; Iran and Saudi Arabia must “share” the region and more.Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner was greeted with contempt by the peace processors and policy experts of Washington and the Middle East, and we were wrong. It took someone who was uninterested in the failed policies of the past to envision a new region. Four peace agreements with Israel later, the Middle East has realigned dramatically. Some credit belongs to the maligned Obama administration’s pro-Iran tilt; suddenly the Arab world awoke to realize that it could not count on Washington. But much credit goes to Team Trump.Donald Trump’s legacy at home is in tatters, and deservedly so. But in the Middle East, he should rightly be remembered as a transformational peacemaker. Some will suggest the US bribed its way to those peace agreements, misremembering that the US has bribed its way to every peace agreement over the last half-century. Some will argue that war will become inevitable because Iran no longer has a glide path to denuclearization. But the great lie of the Iran Deal was that it would somehow change Iran; that did not, and would not ever have happened. Donald Trump’s legacy at home is in tatters, and deservedly so. But in the Middle East, he should rightly be remembered as a transformational peacemaker.“Trump’s presidency was erratic and indicated a skepticism toward, and even hostility of, much of the world, including much of the Middle East as well as a lack of concern for many traditional US regional interests. President Trump, with many Americans behind him, openly derided longstanding US commitments, such as the security of Saudi Arabia when Iran attacked it with missiles. His Israel policy was focused on US domestic audiences, not on Israel’s role in the region. Many regional leaders appreciated Trump’s hostility to Iran, and many Israelis welcomed his uncritical support. In the future, however, all states will have to reckon with the possibility that the United States is less engaged in the Middle East and may elect leaders whose policies vary widely.”Trump and Kushner contributed to strategic clarity on several issues:Iran is the main barrier to stability in the Middle East and states have to put aside many non-relevant issues to unite against the Ayatollahs. The faulty JCPOA [Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action] was dropped and diplomacy was used to bring the Gulf states, Sudan and Morocco closer to Israel. The Trump administration also proved that the Palestinian issue is NOT the central conflict and a real barrier to better relations with Israel. The Trump administration also proved, by moving the embassy to Jerusalem, that a large part of the Arab world can live with Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The Trump administration continued signaling that the US is diminishing its commitment to be the policeman of the Middle East, allowing greater freedom of action to the regional actors and increasing their need for “self-help” postures.Sometimes when things are stuck you need someone completely unconventional to rattle the cage. Trump was certainly an unconventional leader. Not stuck in the paradigms of decades of accepted American policy in the Middle East. Not burdened by the Messiah complex that his predecessor had. He saw things simply: you strengthen your allies to weaken your enemies. That’s exactly what he did: Israel did not need to solve the Palestinian problem to bring about normalization in the region. Maybe even the opposite was true. Recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the Golan Heights as under our sovereignty was recognizing a reality that will never change, and economic development as the first step to a long lasting peace is simply improving people’s lives. He simplified, didn’t over-complicate, and as a result changed the course of history in the region for the better.Trump leaned heavily in the direction of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates: he did not complain about their human rights records, triggered their renewed conflict with Qatar, continued the Obama administration policy of supporting the war in Yemen, helped when they needed it to raise oil prices, and protected the Saudi Crown Prince from accusations of murder.Trump also leaned heavily in the direction of Greater Israel advocates, especially Prime Minister Netanyahu, by not complaining about settlements in the West Bank, moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem, and putting forward a so-called peace proposal that was inimical to Palestinian political interests. Both the Gulf Arab states and Israel advocated withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal and relished the re-imposition of sanctions and “maximum pressure.” Netanyahu might have also liked military action against Iran, but the Gulf Arab states were hesitant about that. In the end, the so-called Abraham accords (especially with UAE and Bahrain) served the interests of the Gulf Arabs and Israel while damaging prospects for the Palestinians. The normalization of relations between Israel and the UAE and Bahrain is perhaps the only permanent change in the Middle East. Biden will seek to reverse withdrawal from the JCPOA, reduce protection for Mohammed bin Salman and other autocrats, end support for the war in Yemen, and revive the two-state solution (without withdrawing the US embassy from Jerusalem).-When it comes to Arab-Israeli relations, the Trump Administration left a mixed legacy. The Abraham Accords were a historic breakthrough, changing the decades-old regional landscape. These accords not only benefit the countries directly involved, but impact the whole regional security architecture in ways that will help advance regional security and US interests. The recent shift of Israel from European Command to Central Command is an example of how these developments can help create a better integrated region. On the negative side, the Trump Administration’s policy towards the Palestinian-Israeli conflict severely undermined the prospects of a two-state solution. The Trump peace plan itself presented a vision that was globally and regionally rejected as incompatible with a viable solution. Other policies, such as changing the designation of settlements or cutting all aid to Palestinians, further added to the erosion of the prospects of such a solution. These policies, along with developments within Israel and the Palestinians, are creating a potential crisis that is generating concern not only among the two sides but also other stakeholders like Jordan. The challenge facing the Biden administration is to expand and build upon the positive developments while reversing the impact of the negative ones.Trump took full advantage of the changes that transpired during the Obama years. Israel and the Gulf states found themselves on the same page regarding the Arab Spring and the Iran nuclear deal, and increasingly engaged in quiet cooperation. Trump, or perhaps more precisely Jared Kushner, realized that there was an opportunity to formalize those relationships, and then to expand upon them, given the overall disinterest in keeping alive the destructive and unproductive Arab League boycott of Israel. In other words, with the Abraham Accords, Trump did not exactly change the Middle East as much as he brought new realities out of the shadows. Still, he deserves credit.Where Trump changed the Middle East most was with Iran. He literally upended the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in one stroke. The assassination of Qassem Soleimani was probably the most significant act of his presidency. The green light that he gave Israel to target Iranian assets in Syria and beyond was also immensely important. Iran appeared feckless and unable to respond in most cases. One gets a sense that Iran is still on its back foot.Trump did not exactly change the Middle East as much as he brought new realities out of the shadows. We now watch to see whether the Biden administration takes advantage of the leverage that Trump has gifted him. Finally, Trump changed Israel. Trump moved the embassy to Jerusalem, recognized sovereignty in the Golan Heights, and rolled out a peace plan. The embassy will not move back. The Golan Heights decision will almost certainly not be overturned. And the peace plan will forever be used as leverage by Israeli negotiators to counter peace proposals that attempt to grant the Palestinians more leverage than the Israelis wish to yield. These are lasting changes. On the negative side of the ledger, one can argue that Trump has set the stage for timeline-based withdrawals from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan. It’s unclear whether the Biden administration will continue down this path. But it certainly appears that Trump has prepared the Middle East for a future without significant American involvement. This does not have to be a permanent change. But it could be one without careful American leadership.

Trump shuns ‘ex-presidents club’ — and the feeling is mutual-Former US leaders often join together in common cause. Like so many other traditions, however, this is one the most recent man to depart the White House is likely to flout-By Will Weissert and Deb Riechmann-JAN 23,21-Today, 9:24 am

WASHINGTON (AP) — It’s a club Donald Trump was never really interested in joining and certainly not so soon: the cadre of former commanders in chief who revere the presidency enough to put aside often bitter political differences and even join together in common cause.Members of the ex-presidents club pose together for pictures. They smile and pat each other on the back while milling around historic events, or sit somberly side by side at VIP funerals. They take on special projects together. They rarely criticize one another and tend to offer even fewer harsh words about their White House successors.Like so many other presidential traditions, however, this is one Trump seems likely to flout. Now that he’s left office, it’s hard to see him embracing the stately, exclusive club of living former presidents.“He kind of laughed at the very notion that he would be accepted in the presidents club,” said Kate Andersen Brower, who interviewed Trump in 2019 for her book “Team of Five: The Presidents’ Club in the Age of Trump.” “He was like, ‘I don’t think I’ll be accepted.’”t’s equally clear that the club’s other members don’t much want him — at least for now.Former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton recorded a three-minute video from Arlington National Cemetery after President Joe Biden’s inauguration this week, praising peaceful presidential succession as a core of American democracy. The segment included no mention of Trump by name, but stood as a stark rebuke of his behavior since losing November’s election.“I think the fact that the three of us are standing here, talking about a peaceful transfer of power, speaks to the institutional integrity of our country,” Bush said. Obama called inaugurations “a reminder that we can have fierce disagreements and yet recognize each other’s common humanity, and that, as Americans, we have more in common than what separates us.”Trump spent months making baseless claims that the election had been stolen from him through fraud and eventually helped incite a deadly insurrection at the US Capitol. He left the White House without attending Biden’s swearing-in, the first president to skip his successor’s inauguration in 152 years.Obama, Bush and Clinton recorded their video after accompanying Biden to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider following the inauguration. They also taped a video urging Americans to get vaccinated against the coronavirus. Only 96-year-old Jimmy Carter, who has limited his public events because of the pandemic, and Trump, who had already flown to post-presidential life in Florida, weren’t there.Jeffrey Engel, founding director of the Center for Presidential History at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, said Trump isn’t a good fit for the ex-presidents club “because he’s temperamentally different.”“People within the club historically have been respected by ensuing presidents. Even Richard Nixon was respected by Bill Clinton and by Ronald Reagan and so on, for his foreign policy,” Engel said. “I’m not sure I see a whole lot of people calling up Trump for his strategic advice.”ormer presidents are occasionally called upon for big tasks.George H.W. Bush and Clinton teamed up in 2005 to launch a campaign urging Americans to help the victims of the devastating Southeast Asia tsunami. When Hurricane Katrina blasted the Gulf Coast, Bush, father of the then-current president George W. Bush, called on Clinton to boost Katrina fundraising relief efforts. When the elder Bush died in 2018, Clinton wrote, “His friendship has been one of the great gifts of my life,” high praise considering this was the man he ousted from the White House after a bruising 1992 campaign — making Bush the only one-term president of the last three decades except for Trump.Obama tapped Clinton and the younger President Bush to boost fundraising efforts for Haiti after its devastating 2010 earthquake. George W. Bush also became good friends with former first lady Michelle Obama, and cameras caught him slipping a cough drop to her as they sat together at Arizona Sen. John McCain’s funeral.Usually presidents extend the same respect to their predecessors while still in office, regardless of party. In 1971, three years before he resigned in disgrace, Richard Nixon went to Texas to participate in the dedication of Lyndon Baines Johnson’s presidential library. When Nixon’s library was completed in 1990, then-President George H.W. Bush attended with former Presidents Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford.Trump’s break with tradition began even before his presidency did. After his election win in November 2016, Obama hosted Trump at the White House promising to “do everything we can to help you succeed.” Trump responded, “I look forward to being with you many, many more times in the future” — but that never happened.Instead, Trump falsely accused Obama of having wiretapped him and spent four years savaging his predecessor’s record.Current and former presidents sometimes loathed each other, and criticizing their successors isn’t unheard of. Carter criticized the policies of the Republican administrations that followed his, Obama chided Trump while campaigning for Biden and also criticized George W. Bush’s policies — though Obama was usually careful not to name his predecessor. Theodore Roosevelt tried to unseat his successor, fellow Republican William Howard Taft, by founding his own “Bull Moose” party and running for president again against him.Still, presidential reverence for former presidents dates back even further. The nation’s second president, John Adams, was concerned enough about tarnishing the legacy of his predecessor that he retained George Washington’s Cabinet appointments.Trump may have time to build his relationship with his predecessors. He told Brower that he “could see himself becoming friendly with Bill Clinton again,” noting that the pair used to golf together. But the odds of becoming the traditional president in retirement that he never was while in office remain long.“I think Trump has taken it too far,” Brower said. “I don’t think that these former presidents will welcome him at any point.”

HELP ENSURE A LEGITIMATE AUDIT: Contact These Arizona Officials to Demand a Deep Dive Audit of Arizona’s Maricopa County Election Results!-By Joe Hoft-Published January 23, 2021 at 9:22pm

The Gateway Pundit previously reported on the situation in Maricopa County Arizona.  The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors finally agreed to a forensic analysis of the county’s 2020 election results on Inauguration Day.https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2021/01/inauguration-day-maricopa-county-officials-finally-agree-audit-election-equipment-presidential-votes/ The Maricopa officials want to choose the auditors for a forensic analysis of the county’s 2020 election results.  That way they can control the audit results by choosing a company that will give them the result they desire.  Steve Bannon had Arizona activist Liz Harris on Saturday morning to discuss the latest developments.Liz Harris is concerned that the audit in Maricopa County requested by the Arizona legislature will be performed by a firm complicit with the election issues and likely fraud in Maricopa County.  We reported this on Friday:At the 30:00 minute marker in the video below, Steve Bannon discusses the Maricopa County situation with Liz Harris, a concerned voter in the state:A legitimate forensic audit of Maricopa County should be performed. No more games from gangsters trying to cover up election fraud should be allowed.  Maricopa County of Arizona is about to do a superficial audit where the auditors are connected to Dominion Voting Systems. Liz Harris asked everyone to pressure three specific legislatures (information for contacting at around the 35 minute marker). The three names and phone numbers to pressure for a DEEP AUDIT performed using the JOVAN POLITZER Method. These politicians need to be contacted below:Senator Karen Fann – 602-926-5874 Senator Warren Peterson – 602-926-4136 Senator Michelle Ugenti-Rita – 602-926-4480 We believe data specialist Jovan Pulitzer is an expert who should perform an independent audit of the county’s results:Let’s make sure Arizona’s election results are properly audited and counted.  We can do this by encouraging the state authorities to used Jovan Pulitzer to perform the forensic audit in the state.

Trump mulled replacing AG to try and overturn election results — US media-According to NY Times, 45th president backed off plan when warned all remaining top officials at Justice Department would resign en masse-By AFP-JAN23,21-Today, 11:14 am

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump considered replacing then-acting US attorney general Jeffrey A. Rosen with a Justice Department lawyer who would help him force Georgia officials to overturn the state’s election result, US media reported late Friday. The New York Times said former US president Trump only decided against the move when told that all remaining top officials at the Justice Department would resign en masse if the plan went ahead. The news, also reported in the Washington Post, comes as Trump is set to face a Senate trial for “incitement of insurrection” over his role in whipping up supporters with unfounded claims of election fraud before they stormed the US Capitol in early January.Trump narrowly lost Georgia to Joe Biden in the November presidential election, in a vote he baselessly claimed was rigged. The reports describe Trump’s increasing frustration with Rosen’s refusal to wield the power of the Justice Department to interfere in the count. He and Jeffrey Clark, a Justice Department lawyer who supported Trump’s assertions that the election was stolen, allegedly came up with a plan to replace Rosen with Clark. But at a three-hour showdown involving the three men, which officials cited in the New York Times compared to an episode of Trump’s reality show “The Apprentice,” the then-president backed down after being told the move would prompt mass resignations.Clark categorically denied that he devised any plan to oust Rosen and said there were inaccuracies in the reporting.Trump, Rosen and the US Justice Department have not publicly responded to the allegations. In early January, a leaked audio tape in which Trump pressured Georgia’s secretary of state to “find” enough votes to overturn the defeat sent shockwaves across Washington.

DARPA opens door to producing "unimaginable" designs for DoD-by Staff Writers-Washington DC (SPX) Jan 18, 2021

DARPA's TRAnsformative DESign (TRADES) program, which began in 2017, set out to develop foundational design tools needed to explore the vast space opened by new materials and additive manufacturing processes commonly called 3D printing. The program recently concluded having successfully developed new mathematics and computational techniques, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, that will allow future designers to create previously unimaginable shapes and structures of interest to defense and commercial manufacturing.Manufacturing technology breakthroughs in recent years, such as 3D printing, have allowed precise material placement, new material behaviors, and complex shaping of parts and structures. Design tools, however, have not kept up with complexity of the design space resulting from these advances."In the past four years, TRADES has explored new ideas from mathematics and computer science that have allowed us to now represent things - like parts and components - that are a million times more complex than current state-of-the-art systems can represent," said Jan Vandenbrande, program manager in DARPA's Defense Sciences Office."We can now describe both shape and material in a coordinated way across multiple physics to allow intricate designs and to understand properties at every point on the produced part. The aim is to be able to mimic integrated hierarchical structures found in nature, where different sized structures respond to different types of physics."TRADES tools are helping overcome what's known as the "analysis interoperability problem." Current processes involve describing a design and then analyzing it subject to multiple physics to answer questions such as: Is it strong enough? What's its drag? What's its thermal response? This process requires manual handling and transfer of data across incompatible systems."That manual handling, moving data from design systems to analysis, absorbs 50% of the entire design cycle because the formats are not compatible and current systems can't directly interoperate," Vandenbrande said."TRADES has developed new concepts that would eliminate that bottleneck and accelerate the design process to include automated synthesis, where a computer explores design alternatives across multiple physics such as thermal, mechanical, electro-optic and the like, without human intervention. This would turn computers into true collaborative partners to help create new designs that are not intuitive to even the best human designers."TRADES is also enabling design for dynamic problems where structures change as time evolves, such as a solid-rocket engine, which changes its internal shape as the propellant burns."The TRADES design tools have made significant headway in addressing the time and cost burdens associated with current design cycles for DoD platforms and should enable rapid and effective response to new and evolving threats and requirements," Vandenbrande said. "This includes generating in-field spares where shaping accommodates some of the discrepancies caused by material substitutions."The advanced design tools, processes, and algorithms developed in the TRADES program are poised to help increase the performance of DoD platforms; reduce the cost and time associated with materials and geometry selection, optimization, and numerical analysis; and enable exploration of new design concepts that are currently out of reach.By enforcing generality in the underlying theories, TRADES is positioned to handle future 3D printing capabilities to include biological components such as a femur, including the "spongy" interior structures. Other challenge problems related to TRADES are available here to serve as future benchmarks. The TRADES program comprised seven university and industry performers who created new design technologies focused on modeling, analysis, and synthesis: University of Colorado Boulder, Columbia University, Etaphase, International Computer Science Institute (ICSI), Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), Siemens, and University of Utah. Two additional performers provided high-performance software and hardware testbeds on which the design technology teams developed and refined their tools: Sandia National Laboratory and the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC).Although the program has formally wrapped up, a few performers are continuing work on their TRADES tools through 2021.

Buyer’s Remorse: Ute Indian Tribe Lashes Out at Biden Admin For Restricting Federal Energy Development, “Direct Attack on Our Economy and Sovereignty”By Cristina Laila-Published January 23, 2021 at 9:04pm

Remember when the tribal leaders were “optimistic” about Joe Biden and overwhelmingly voted for him? The honeymoon is already over for the Ute Indian Tribe in Utah.Joe Biden wasted no time destroying tens of thousands of jobs his first day in office by canceling the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.Biden also put a 60-day moratorium on new oil and natural gas leases and drilling permits on federal lands and states in the west and southwest are furious. The Ute Indian Tribe in Fort Duchesne, Utah blasted the Biden Administration’s restrictions on federal energy development.“Your order is a direct attack on our economy, sovereignty, and our right to self-determination. Indian lands are not federal public lands. Any action on our lands and interest can only be taken after effective tribal consultation,” Luke Duncan, Chairman of the Ute Indian Tribe Business Committee wrote in a letter to Acting Secretary of the Interior.Mr. Duncan accused the Biden Administration of violating the US Treaty and trust responsibilities to the Ute Indian Tribe and violating the “important principles of tribal sovereignty and self-determination.”OUCH.“The Order must be withdrawn or amended to comply with Federal law and policies,” Duncan wrote. The Ute Indian Tribe does not mince words in their response to Interior’s order restricting federal energy development:“Your order is a direct attack on our economy, sovereignty, and our right to self-determination.” pic.twitter.com/U5MiZCMx4n— Megan Barnett Bloomgren (@MeganBloomgren) January 22, 2021-Biden’s moratorium on new oil and natural gas leases also angered New Mexico’s leaders.New Mexico’s leaders are worried that Biden’s war on the energy business will devastate the state’s economy, where education, jobs and public.

Release Them All, Immediately” – Joe Biden Orders ICE Agents to Release All Illegal Aliens in Custody-By Cristina Laila-Published January 23, 2021 at 4:10pm

Fox News host Tucker Carlson exclusively obtained a ‘shocking’ internal memo sent to ICE agents ordering them to release all illegal aliens in custody. In Joe Biden’s first day in office, the Department of Homeland Security issued a sweeping directive to ‘halt all deportations’ for 100 days. However, Joe Biden took further action to release illegal aliens in custody; it was not mentioned in his order to halt deportations. An internal email to ICE officers reveals Joe Biden ordered more than 14,000 illegal aliens in custody to be released.According to Breitbart News, 71.45% of the illegals currently in custody are convicted criminals and a danger to society.“Release them all, immediately,” the ICE agent wrote. “No sponsor available is not acceptable any longer.”Tucker Carlson said the internal memo shows the Biden Administration is in complete chaos when it changed a policy this big without explaining what it means.

Published: May 6, 2020-This nurse didn't just create a replacement N95 mask – hers filters more-By American Heart Association News
https://www.heart.org/en/news/2020/05/06/this-nurse-didnt-just-create-a-replacement-n95-mask-she-made-a-better-one

As Tommye Austin made her way around the COVID-19 unit, she saw patients on ventilators fighting for each breath. She heard nurses, respiratory therapists and other workers talking about how anxious they were about being exposed to the coronavirus, and perhaps spreading it to their loved ones.As the boss of those nurses, Tommye wanted to put them at ease. Her glimpse of the illness and the fear verbalized by the front-line staff was enough for her to equate the pandemic to war. And, she thought, just like soldiers need proper gear, her crew needed quality personal protective equipment, particularly N95 respirator masks. Her San Antonio, Texas, hospital was well stocked. But with a surge of cases expected in May, Tommye worried whether there would be enough respirator masks, especially with every hospital in the world seeking them. Then she remembered what her late husband always said: "If you can't find something and you can't buy something, you make it."So that's what Tommye did. – The name N95 comes from the fact the masks filter 95% of airborne particles, such as viruses. Lab results show Tommye's masks block 96.5%. – N95s weren't intended for all-day use, so they tend to carve painful, unsightly marks into noses, cheeks and chins. Hers don't. - With nowhere for exhaled carbon dioxide to escape, N95 wearers sometimes suffer dizziness or headaches. Hers have an air pocket so the C02 floats away. The "TM 2020" – the letters stand for "Tommye Mask" – took about 10 days to create. And 24 hours to become an internet sensation.Yet the full story of these potentially lifesaving masks is about more than a nurse-scientist building a better mousetrap. It's also the tale of a woman who likes embroidering her unusually spelled name onto everything she can to honor her late husband.Tommye's resume is crammed with credentials: R.N., Ph.D., MBA and NEA-BC (Nurse Executive Advanced-Board Certified). Her title is senior vice president and chief nurse executive. Last year, the industry publication Modern Healthcare ranked her the nation's 38th most influential clinical executive. She's on the local board of the American Heart Association and Batz Patient Safety Foundation, and she volunteers with the March of Dimes. In her rare free time, she's usually at her sewing machine – or, as she calls it, "my fancy computer with a needle." Quilts and throws are her specialties.Even with all her skills, the challenge of designing an N95 equivalent is something she would've outsourced to her husband, Fermon Austin.Although he never went to college, Fermon had the mind of an engineer. He once built a machine to remove corn from its husk just to see if he could. He was a do-it-all, blue-collar worker who died last April 2 at age 64 due to heart failure. They were married 15 years and together for 20.One day early in their relationship, Tommye thought she was helping Fermon by purchasing air conditioning filters for their home in Manvel, Texas."He had a hissy fit," she said, laughing. "He was like, 'Why did you buy these cheap things? They're not electrostatic!' And I was like, 'What's the difference?'"He explained that electrostatic filters were worth the higher price because they carry a charge that zaps more gunk from the air. So, when Tommye went shopping for materials for this project, "I remembered the word 'electrostatic.'"At about $25 each, Tommye started with 12 filters. She bought three different models, cut through their paper and wire frames, and got to work."The efficiency of each model was around the same, but one was more pliable," she said. "It gave your mask a nice shape and was very breathable."That was more than aesthetic. Her biggest challenge was getting the mask to fit snug over the nose and mouth – but not so tight that it would damage the skin. And it still had to leave room for carbon dioxide to escape. For more than a week, Tommye came home from work and tinkered practically all night. Her initial $300 purchase was supplemented by another $2,000 worth of gear. With each iteration, the only way to test for comfort and safety was by strapping it onto her head and testing the mask herself."My nephew, Charles, is staying with me," she said. "I told him, 'If Auntie is not awake in 15 minutes, you need to call 911.'"As she closed in on a prototype, she struggled with the final piece of the comfort-safety puzzle. Then she extended the fabric on the nose and pleated that extension. Voila – more air pocket, no added bulk.On April 16, a San Antonio TV station ran a story about Tommye's masks.By the next day, her masks had been showcased by Fox News and the New York Post. The hospital was so inundated with requests for details that it posted step-by-step instructions later that week. At that point, Tommye only had the instructions in her head.Although the TM 2020 is meant for non-commercial purposes, Tommye has received over 1,500 offers from people willing to buy them. Messages have come from as far as Indonesia and South Africa. On Fridays, she mails masks at no cost to selected people, such as a woman with 10 relatives who are health care workers, three of whom have COVID-19.Tommye recently was speaking with Tamara Hebert Powell, a friend since elementary school in Rockdale, Texas; their moms grew up together, too. Tamara mentioned that her daughter, Brittany, a nurse in Houston, had been using the same N95 mask for nearly two months. They spoke on a Saturday. Brittany got a TM 2020 in the mail Monday."That's Tommye," Tamara said. "She's extremely smart but also compassionate and empathetic. The caring spirit she shows with family and friends is the same way she treats her staff and patients."More than 2,400 of Tommye's masks have been made. The goal is 6,500.Now the big irony: Only Tommye and a few others are wearing them at her hospital. Everyone else is following protocol by using their mask toolkit. She's quick to note that all along her design was meant to be a backup. The staff has access to barrier/surgical masks, N95 respirator masks, face shields, hospital-issued scrubs and plenty of food. She's even more proud of the fact that her staff has been kept safe from COVID-19, which she's come to call "the invisible monster.""This is some bad stuff," she said. "It hits all ages. People don't realize how bad it is."Thanks to Tommye and Fermon Austin, and the TM 2020s, many people will never find out.If you have questions or comments about this story, please email editor@heart.org.

BREAKING EXCLUSIVE: Arizona’s Maricopa Board of Supervisors Is Playing Games – Trying to Block a LEGITIMATE Forensic Audit of 2020 Election Ballots – Why? By Joe Hoft-Published January 22, 2021 at 5:41pm

What is going on in Arizona?  After finally obtaining the right to audit the ballots in Maricopa County, those in power refuse to move forward and allow an audit by a legitimate forensic auditor.Their actions show their desire to hide invalid ballots rather than identify any issues with the 2020 election in Arizona. We reported on December 30th that concerned citizens in Maricopa County in Arizona got together to look into the election fraud in their state.  They performed data analysis and found between 160,000 to 400,000 ‘Phantom’ Ballots and performed door to door canvasing and found up to 30% of the addresses they looked at were fraudulent.  Their results were shocking.  Liz Harris introduced the project :The Arizona legislature held a hearing in December to discuss the various findings and accusations related to the election in Maricopa County and soon after the hearing the Senate subpoenaed the county.  The County Board of Supervisors, who oversee the election in the county, sued the Senate to prevent the audit.  Below are the Maricopa Board of Supervisors:But then the following occurred:The county sued [weeks ago], claiming the Legislature lacked authority to examine ballots. But on Wednesday, the county dropped its opposition, acknowledging the Legislature’s authority. Fann said the county has agreed to turn over all requested materials, provided the auditor is certified by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and that only authorized parties will have access to the data.Unfortunately this was all another ruse to prevent an adequate review of the ballots and images in Maricopa County. According to an interview with Liz Harris, what the Board is not saying is that they want to select who performs the audit of their ballots because they can then prevent the things they don’t want reported through this auditor selection process.  Hickman, Sellers and Gates are all Republicans.  Gallardo is a Democrat.Harris asks, “Why would the the Board of Supervisors do this?“Harris says that she is afraid the people of Arizona won’t understand the fact that these same people who prevented the forensic audit in the first place want to mandate that the auditor be from the same group that blessed the Dominion machines (the US Election Assistance Commission).   She says, “Why does the Board not want to find fraud if there is fraud that exists. We at the TGP have recommended for months that inventor and expert, Jovan Hutton Pulitzer, should be forensically auditing all the swing states results. Pulitzer is willing to do this basically for free.  He has a process and therefore there is no reason not to use this outsider to review these results of ballots, unless of course you are trying to hide something! At the state level, there have also been roadblocks.  Karen Fann, the President of the Senate, Warren Peterson, Chair of the Arizona Judiciary Committee, and Michelle Ugenti-Rita, the Senator involved in Election issues, all need to step to the plate. Why not have Pulitzer perform the audit alongside the chosen auditor by the Board of Supervisors, since Pultizer will do it basically for free? Americans are upset.  There is an incredible amount of evidence of fraud in Maricopa County Arizona alone.  Americans need to see the evidence that the election was fair and free.
Right now it looks like it was not – at least not in Arizona for sure.Americans demand an official audit of the ballots!

The Life and Crimes of Joe Biden and Hunter Biden that the mainstream media doesn’t want you to read-The fact that the Hunter Biden disk drive was with the FBI for several months with no action taken shows the level of corruption that is seeping American institutions.2 November, 2020-Satyanarayana Dosapati

Why is Biden so soft on China? Referring to CNN in one of his speeches Donald Trump called them ‘crazy and stupid bastards‘ for their myopic narrative that Trump will lose even as the polls show Trump is narrowing the margin [1]. This type of language is also used by Joe Biden but leaving the epithet aside, those who are following the news of Hunter Biden’s hard drive will be ‘crazy and stupid’ not to reflect what we are up against [2]. Media constantly pointed to Trump’s handling of the Wuhan virus but are deliberately leaving aside the news of Bidens’ role in empowering China that brought the pandemic in the first place-Looking the other way-We are not talking millions, we are talking about enriching themselves possibly billions of dollars by empowering countries like China at the cost of the US interests. It is about looking the other way while China builds up South China Sea Islands (SCI) as Chinese military posts that have become a threat to the South China sea by taking a billion and a half dollars in private equity and more [3] [4].We are talking about assisting China to grab the world’s precious metals mines in Africa that the world needs for building battery-powered cars (nickel), strong military equipment/infrastructure (molybdenum), and the only other alternative rest of the world now has is the moon! It is about actively helping China steal precious American technology, nuclear, and many other areas of defence emboldening China to grab and steal land, sea, and air rights.Billions of US taxpayer money given away as part of private deals with little accountability in every country, Biden has responsibility whether it is China, Ukraine, Russia, or Iraq. The Billion Dollar investment-Two weeks after Biden’s official trip as VP to China with Hunter in 2013, China invested 1.5 billion dollars (initially 1 billion) into Hunter Biden’s firm (Rosemont Seneca private equity)! Joe Biden went to China to discuss the China takeover & military buildup on the South China Sea Islands and high tariffs for American businesses. While little progress was made on those, his son was rewarded handsomely.Secret Empires-Conservative Peter Schweiger in his book, ‘Secret Empires‘ did not spare Republicans and even Trump particularly, the potential conflict of interest of his son-in-law Jared Kushner and the many international deals of Trump and his children. But what boggles your mind is the enormous corruption of Biden as Vice President using his son Hunter Biden and John Kerry as Secretary of State using his stepson Christopher Heinz and a friend of his son Devon Archer, under Obama timeline.Particularly with China, where these people created a series of LLCs with multi-billion dollar private equity deals with companies owned by the Chinese Government as detailed in the Peter Schweger article, ‘The troubling reasons why Biden is so soft on China.’ Was Obama sleeping/golfing or even part of it, we will not get to know easily? Not just selling America, these people are selling off Ukraine to their oligarchs, money laundering with oligarchs in Russia, in Kazakhstan, all of whom are pouring millions into their coffers [5]. Even looting from the native American tribes in the US is not a far reach fone of their partners Devon Archer [6].The Three Amigos-Soon after Obama Presidency started in 2009, VP Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry’s stepson Chris Heinz, Chris friend Devon Archer together formed a company called ‘Rosemont Seneca Partners’, that was the centerpiece of the corruption selling US interests to China and many other countries. Devon Archer was convicted of stealing from the financial interests of US Native American tribes.Russian oligarch (widow of Moscow Mayor and friend of Putin) wire transferred 3.5 million dollars to Hunter Biden in 2014 [7].-The Giveaways-Billions of US taxpayer money given away as part of private deals with little accountability in every country, Biden has responsibility whether it is China, Ukraine, Russia, or Iraq. It is not just the son of Biden, but his brother James Biden who got a 1.5 billion dollars contract to build homes in Iraq with zero experience in real estate and pocketed big amounts [8] [9]. Even his daughter too.We now see the truth of many allegations against Biden as a VP, where he took his son and partners to his trips to foreign countries who were having parallel discussions of their shady ventures with foreign authorities and striking deals while father Biden barters away American interests as part of those negotiation deals. The person convicted of selling American technology to China lived a few feet away from Biden’s home in Delaware. We are talking about a big-time sale in our country.Brotherly Love-James Biden, brother of Joe Biden secured a 1.5 billion dollar US Government contract (i.e., taxpayers money) to build homes in Iraq from the US in 2010 (for a company that hired him even though he has zero experience in real estate). China financed a $100,000 global spending spree for James Biden and his wife (per Senate Committee report).Secretary of State John Kerry sold US Government access to his stepson, Chris Heinz, helping China steal US technologies while enriching themselves.Sordid habits-What is worse is also the many pornography pictures of minor girls as young as 15 years among the 28,000 photos cache on the disk, videos of the sexual orgies of Hunter Biden with minor girls, a father of 4 daughters, which if only China had access it would have literally blackmailed Biden (as a President). Even Bidens have not disowned the hard drive which has thousands (40,000+) of emails on how Hunter was working closely with his father who is selling US access/policy, US taxpayers money, as Vice President under Obama to benefit themselves.Fifty-Fifty-What seems tragic is in his hunger for corrupt money, Joe Biden used his own son as the front person for all the corrupt activities, leaving his son a chronic drug and sex addict while moving into the shady world of international political corruption. This fact was revealed in Hunter Biden’s email to his daughter on how he was supporting the Biden family for 30 years and giving 50% to father Biden. Hunter was also involved with firms in Russia and Eastern European countries’ that were involved in prostitution and human trafficking (per senate committee report).Hunter Biden’s iPhone text message to his daughter Naomi on Jan 3, 2019, on how he is supporting the Biden family for 30 years and how he is giving Pop (i.e., Joe Biden) half of what he earns (taken from hard drive). It makes you wonder whether those of us who come for better opportunities from India with its history of political corruption and cronyism under Congress rule are eventually going to face a similar situation in this country, which will be felt by generations after us, perhaps in just one or two generations. Yes, America has a lot of resources and it will be a few decades before it becomes another second or third world country. It does not take long to turn a country into a banana republic. The fact that the Hunter Biden disk drive was with the FBI for several months with no action taken shows the level of corruption that is seeping American institutions. It is true that corruption at high levels is not new even in America and many Presidents fought against it and some contributed to it, but nothing seems the level of brazenness as that of Biden/Kerry and their family members. How China became a menace-If China has become such a menace today, it is not due to the small part played by these selfish people. If some express the possibility that the day Biden takes up Presidency, China may attack India, will go on a no-holds-barred spree in the South China sea and will follow up another virus in a year or two after the current virus subsides (if that suits them), there is an element of truth to it. While few democrats engage in such brazen corruption, every vote for any Democrat in this election will be strengthening the Bidens.China’s military build-up at South China Sea Islands like this, which Joe Biden as VP looked another way (in return for funds for his son’s companies) representing a mortal threat to Asia as well as the US.‘Secret Empires‘ audiobook is available on YouTube and I urge readers to listen to at least chapters 2,3,4 (chapter wise links given below) [10]. This book was published in 2018 and what we see in Hunter’s hard disk not just corroborates all the things he said but much more, much much more. The fact that the establishment that benefited most from China’s gold rush wants to suppress the contents of the hard drive, is precise because they are most damaging and most damning. Peter’s article in NY Post, a must-read, also summarizes the reason why Biden is so soft on China. Also, if anyone is interested in grey’ ed out sexual orgies of Hunter Biden from his disk, they are published on The Gateway Pundit‘ site by patriots [11], who want to inform the public so that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) will not blackmail the US and other countries using them. Apparently, even Russians have Hunter orgy videos.Note: The article was first published on pgurus and has been reproduced here at the author’s request.

Hunter Biden Made Money on China’s Energy Company CEFC On Its Way Up and On Its Way Down-By Joe Hoft-Published December 22, 2020 at 10:30am

Hunter Biden and the Biden family were happy to make money from the Chinese at CEFC on their way up and on their way down. You can’t make this stuff up.  The Bidens made money on Chinese company CEFC when it went up and when it went down. We’ve already reported how the Bidens were involved with CEFC and how they brought New York Governor Cuomo into the scene as well:We also reported that the entire Hunter Biden fiasco with CEFC was what Carter Page was blamed for doing while Hunter Biden did it:Today we can report that the Bidens made money off of CEFC after they were taken over and were on their way down as well.  (Hat tip Yaacov Apelbaum.)-Patrick Ho (the Vice-chairman and Secretary-General of the CEFC) was busted in New York for international money laundering, conspiracy, and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, his partner Hunter signed up to be his lawyer.  Hunter’s retainer was $1 million.Hunter, who is not a criminal attorney, ended-up hiring another attorney named Edward Y. Kim.  Not surprisingly, Kim spent a decade as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in the Southern district in NY.The outcome of all of this compilation of money and political influence was that out of his three year sentence, Ho ended up serving only a few months before he was released. This is life in today’s dual system of justice but Bill Barr says everything is fine.  Nothing to see here.

Biden to review ‘serious, growing national security threat’ from domestic groups-Move could see US law enforcement and intelligence pivot from focus on overseas terror toward the threats posed by American violent extremism-By Eric Tucker-JAN 22.21-Today, 11:16 pm

WASHINGTON (AP) —US President Joe Biden has directed law enforcement and intelligence officials in his administration to study the threat of domestic violent extremism in the United States, an undertaking being launched weeks after a mob of insurgents loyal to Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol. The disclosure Friday by White House press secretary Jen Psaki is a stark acknowledgment of the national security threat that officials see as posed by American extremists motivated to violence by radical ideology. The involvement of the director of national intelligence, an office created after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to prevent international terrorism, suggests that American authorities are examining how to pivot to a more concerted focus on violence from extremists at home. The threat assessment, coordinated by the national intelligence office, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, will be used as a foundation to develop policy, the White House said. In addition, the National Security Council will do its own policy review to see how information about the problem can be better shared across the government. And the administration will work on a more coordinated approach, with a focus on addressing social media and radicalization, she said.“The Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol and the tragic deaths and destruction that occurred underscored what we all know: The rise of domestic violent extremism is a serious and growing national security threat,” Psaki said, adding that the administration will confront the problem with resources, policies and “respect for constitutionally protected free speech and political activities.”The riot at the Capitol, which led last week to Trump’s second impeachment, raised questions about whether a federal government national security apparatus that for years has moved aggressively to combat threats from foreign terror groups and their followers in America is adequately equipped to address the threat of domestic extremism. It’s an issue that has flared periodically over the years, with different attacks — including a massacre at a Pittsburgh synagogue — renewing debate over whether a law specific to domestic terrorism is needed. It is unclear when the threat assessment will conclude or whether it will precipitate law enforcement and intelligence getting new tools or authorities to address a problem that officials say has proved challenging to combat, partly because of First Amendment protections.FBI Director Chris Wray said last fall that, over the past year, the most lethal violence has come from anti-government activists, such as anarchists and militia types.Law enforcement agencies are under scrutiny for their preparations for Jan. 6, when a violent mob of Trump supporters overran the police and stormed into the Capitol. More than 150 people are facing charges so far, including a man who was photographed wearing a “Camp Auschwitz” shirt, as well as QAnon conspiracy theorists and members of militia groups.

‘There will be a trial’: US House to send Trump impeachment article MondaySchumer announces speedy impeachment, rejecting Senate Republican leader’s proposal to push back start of trial to February to give former president time to prepare-By MARY CLARE JALONICK and LISA MASCARO-JAN 22,21-Today, 6:17 pm

WASHINGTON (AP) — US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to send the article of impeachment against Donald Trump to the Senate on Monday, launching the start of the former president’s trial on a charge of incitement of insurrection over the deadly Capitol riot.Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced the schedule Friday.“There will be a trial,” Schumer said. “It will be a full trial, it will be a fair trial”Trump is the first president to be twice impeached and the first to face a trial after leaving office. While the transmission of the article launches the trial, the schedule ahead remains uncertain. On Thursday, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell proposed pushing back the start of Trump’s impeachment trial to February to give the former president time to prepare and review his case.I have spoken to @SpeakerPelosi. The articles of impeachment will be delivered to the Senate on Monday.Make no mistake: There will be a full trial. There will be a fair trial. — Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) January 22, 202House Democrats who voted to impeach Trump last week for inciting the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol riot say a full reckoning is necessary before the country — and the Congress — can move on.But McConnell in a statement Thursday evening suggested a more expansive timeline that would see the House transmit the article of impeachment next week, on Jan. 28, launching the trial’s first phase. After that, the Senate would give the president’s defense team and House prosecutors two weeks to file briefs. Arguments in the trial would likely begin in mid-February.“Senate Republicans are strongly united behind the principle that the institution of the Senate, the office of the presidency, and former President Trump himself all deserve a full and fair process that respects his rights and the serious factual, legal, and constitutional questions at stake,” especially given the unprecedented speed of the House process, McConnell said.Schumer is reviewing the plan and will discuss it with McConnell, a spokesperson said. The two leaders are also negotiating how the new 50-50 Senate will work and how they will balance other priorities.A trial delay could appeal to some Democrats, as it would give the Senate more time to confirm President Joe Biden’s Cabinet nominees and debate a new round of coronavirus relief. Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware, a key ally of the president’s, told CNN that Democrats would consider a delay “if we are making progress on confirming the very talented, seasoned and diverse team that President Joe Biden has nominated.”Pelosi said Trump doesn’t deserve a “get-out-of-jail card” just because he has left office and Biden and others are calling for national unity.Facing his second impeachment trial in two years, Trump began to assemble his defense team by hiring attorney Butch Bowers to represent him, according to an adviser. Bowers previously served as counsel to former South Carolina Govs. Nikki Haley and Mark Sanford.Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina helped Trump find Bowers after members of his past legal teams indicated they did not plan to join the new effort. Trump is at a disadvantage compared to his first trial, in which he had the full resources of the White House counsel’s office to defend him.Pelosi’s nine impeachment managers, who will be prosecuting the House case, have been regularly meeting to discuss strategy. Pelosi said she would talk to them “in the next few days” about when the Senate might be ready for a trial.Shortly before the Jan. 6 insurrection, Trump told thousands of his supporters at a rally near the White House to “fight like hell” against the election results that Congress was certifying. A mob marched down to the Capitol and rushed in, interrupting the count. Five people, including a Capitol Police officer, died in the mayhem, and the House impeached Trump a week later, with 10 Republicans joining all Democrats in support.Pelosi said it would be “harmful to unity” to forget that “people died here on Jan. 6, the attempt to undermine our election, to undermine our democracy, to dishonor our Constitution.”Senator Mitch McConnell, the top Republican, walks to the chamber for the start of business as the minority leader, at the Capitol in Washington, Jan. 21, 2021. (AP/J. Scott Applewhite)-Trump was acquitted by the Republican-led Senate at his first impeachment trial. The White House legal team, aided by Trump’s personal lawyers, aggressively fought the House charges that he had encouraged the president of Ukraine to investigate Biden in exchange for military aid. This time around, Pelosi noted, the House is not seeking to convict the president over private conversations but for a very public insurrection that they themselves experienced and that played out on live television.“This year, the whole world bore witness to the president’s incitement,” Pelosi said.Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, the No. 2 Senate Democrat, said it was still too early to know how long a trial would take or if Democrats would want to call witnesses. But he said, “You don’t need to tell us what was going on with the mob scene we were rushing down the staircase to escape.”McConnell, who said this week that Trump “provoked” his supporters before the riot, has not said how he will vote. He told his GOP colleagues that it will be a vote of conscience.Democrats would need the support of at least 17 Republicans to convict Trump, a high bar. While a handful of Senate Republicans have indicated they are open to conviction, most have said they believe a trial will be divisive and questioned the legality of trying a president after he has left office.Graham said that if he were Trump’s lawyer, he would focus on that argument and on the merits of the case — and whether it was “incitement” under the law.“I guess the public record is your television screen,” Graham said. “So, I don’t see why this would take a long time.”

Israel walks back reported virus czar claim that Pfizer 1st dose less effective-After Nachman Ash quoted as saying first shot of vaccine provides less protection than company initially indicated, Health Ministry says his comments were taken out of context-By TOI staff-jan 22,21-Today, 11:43 pm

The Health Ministry on Friday walked back apparent claims by Israel’s virus czar that the first dose of Pfizer’s vaccine provides less protection against COVID-19 than the US pharmaceutical firm had initially indicated it would, saying his words had been quoted out of context.Earlier this week, Army Radio reported that Nachman Ash had, in a meeting with health officials, noted that many people have gotten infected between the first and second Pfizer shots and questioned the effectiveness of the vaccine after just one dose. The data on the protective effect against the virus of the first dose is “lower than Pfizer presented,” he was quoted saying.Pfizer says its vaccine, produced with BioNTech, is around 52% effective after the first dose, and increases to about 95% a number of days after the second dose.In a statement issued Friday, the Health Ministry said reports regarding the czar’s comments were “out of context and not accurate.”“The vaccination campaign in Israel started a month ago… during a surge in morbidity and mortality in the country, which makes it hard to evaluate vaccination effectiveness without biases,” the ministry said. “Initial evaluation reveals some protective effects of the vaccine and those are carefully studied by the Health Ministry.”“The commissioner said we have yet to see a decrease in the number of severely ill patients. As the second dose is given these days to at-risk populations we expect to see the full protective impact of the vaccine,” the statement said. The Health Ministry also announced Friday that it had broken a record in daily vaccinations on Thursday, with 244,000 Israelis getting inoculated.Ministry figures showed 2,441,379 Israelis have received the first vaccine dose and 850,811 of them the second.Israel is leading the world in vaccination on a per capita basis, according to the Oxford-based Our World in Data.More than a month into Israel’s vaccination campaign, Health Ministry officials had hoped to see a dramatic drop in daily infections and serious cases, but there is no such trend at this time. The more contagious virus variants — particularly the British strain — are being blamed for the difficulty in bringing down illness rates and easing the heavy load on hospitals, despite the lockdown and mass vaccinations. The ministry also reported a slight decline in daily coronavirus infections, as Israel’s worst outbreak since the pandemic began appeared to ease after weeks of strict lockdown rules.According to the ministry, 7,099 new cases were confirmed Thursday, after peaking at over 10,100 earlier in the week. Along with another 1,228 cases since midnight, the total number of infections recorded in Israel reached 585,746.The drop in daily cases came as testing levels also further decreased, though the positive test rate fell to 8.9 percent. The death toll stood at 4,245, with 27 fatalities recorded Thursday. The ministry said there were 82,029 active cases, with 1,845 patients hospitalized for COVID-19. Of those, 1,128 were in serious condition, with 310 on ventilators.

With funding from Chinese backer, 162 Ethiopian immigrants arrive in Israel-6th flight of Operation ‘Tzur Yisrael’ arrives with financial support from entrepreneur and Keren Hayesod; minister hails ‘the return of our sons and daughters home to Israel’-By Lazar Berman-JAN 22,21-Today, 4:04 pm

Dozens of new immigrants from Ethiopia stepped into the brisk early morning winter air at Ben Gurion airport on Friday to start their new lives as Israeli citizens. Clutching Israeli flags, some passengers knelt to kiss the ground after they descended the stairs from the plane. The Ethiopian Airlines plane carrying 162 passengers was the sixth flight in Operation Tzur Yisrael, which aims to bring 2,000 Ethiopians from the Falash Mura community waiting in camps to Israel in the coming months. The planned ceremony to greet the immigrants was scrapped in light of Israel’s coronavirus restrictions. The flight was funded by Keren Hayesod – United Israel Appeal, which serves as the official fundraising body for Israel. It was financially supported by Peter Wang, a Christian Chinese entrepreneur.“The fact that dozens of new Olim will celebrate this Shabbat on the land of Israel fills me with feelings of pride and satisfaction,” said Ethiopian-born Absorption and Immigration Minister Pnina Tamano-Shata in a statement. “Today, a long and taxing journey of waiting to be reunited with their families is over, and I am happy to lead the return of our sons and daughters home to Israel.”In October,  Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to bring 2,000 members of the community to the country. The proposal earmarked NIS 370 million ($109 million) for the mass immigration, the Prime Minister’s Office said at the time. The original plan was to bring the 2,000 Ethiopian immigrants to Israel by the end of 2020. Keren Hayesod is working to raise money to help Israel complete the mission by mid-2021, the organization’s chairman Sam Grundwerg told The Times of Israel.Though there are many thousands more who are waiting to make the move, the individuals approved were given priority status, primarily for family reunification. The immigrants will quarantine in specially prepared facilities before beginning Hebrew study, job training and schooling.-A long-awaited reunion-Families have waited for years to move to Israel. Tedplach Bitao, 28, spent more than 12 years in Gondar. She landed Friday with her husband and two children, alongside her older brother Shagau and his family.Members of Bitao’s family have moved to Israel separately over the years — four of her siblings in 2010 and their elderly mother made the flight two years ago, and lives in the absorption center in Beit Alfa.Bitao spoke of her excitement at having the opportunity to hug her mother again, and said that her dream is to acclimate in Israel, learn Hebrew and work to bring the rest of Ethiopian Jewry to Israel. Her brother Amana is slated to arrive on a flight next week with his family.‘God has heard their cries’Wang, the Chinese businessman who supported the flight financially, told The Times of Israel that his support for aliyah (immigration to Israel) comes from his deep Christian faith.“’Even if you have been banished to the most distant land under the heavens, from there the Lord your God will gather you and bring you back,’” said Wang, quoting Deuteronomy.“Jewish brothers and sisters in Ethiopia have been praying to return to the land of their ancestors for centuries,” Wang continued, citing his concern over the precarious situation in which they find themselves. “I believe God has heard their cries out of distress and seen their longing for the promised land.”Wang was in Israel in 2018 for the ceremonies marking Israel’s 70th anniversary.  He said the visit allowed him to experience “in a profound way how God is with Israel.”Grundwerg told The Times of Israel that there has been especially significant support from evangelical  Christians around the world over the past decade.“We’ve had Christians who supported aliyah from the former Soviet Union, from Ukraine, even from Mexico,” said Grundwerg. “But there is something special that many Christians connect to with Ethiopian aliyah.”Keren Hayesod works closely with the Jewish Agency, which handles relations with the Ethiopian government, and whose staff is on the ground in Gondar and Addis Ababa.Grundwerg estimated the cost of the flight at around $320,000. Some of that went on preparations for the flight, including pandemic-related health precautions and other vaccinations. Most of the funding from the Israeli government goes toward long-term costs, like housing and vocational training, leaving other Israeli and Zionist institutions to support the remainder of the preparatory costs as well as the flights themselves. For Grundwerg, whose grandparents survived the Holocaust and whose great-grandparents were murdered, helping others immigrate to Israel is particularly personal.“For me, coming on aliyah 30 years ago by choice, and to then be able to be at the head of an organization whose number one purpose for 100 years is to help bring olim, it’s absolutely coming full circle for me,” he said.-Thousands on the way, but many more still waiting-In November 2015, the Israeli government passed a decision to airlift to bring “the last of the community” waiting in Addis Ababa and Gondar.Up to 14,000 people with Jewish roots are waiting in Ethiopia to come to Israel, but the government approved the airlifting of just 2,000 in late 2020 and early 2021, despite the pandemic and the recent outbreak of a war in the northern Tigray region.Fighting between Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front from the country’s northwest claimed its first victim from Gondar’s Jewish community on November 12 — Girmew Gete, 36. He had waited 24 years to immigrate to Israel. The community faces dire conditions in Ethiopia, which have intensified as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.Work has dried up and food is in short supply, with prices up by 35 to 50 percent; families in Israel who previously sent their relatives money are strapped for cash because of their own COVID-19-related problems, and philanthropic organizations are less able to raise donations due to the pandemic. In August, Tamano-Shata presented a NIS 1.3 billion ($382.6 million) framework to the Knesset to bring 8,000 Ethiopians to Israel and to close the camps in Gondar and Addis Ababa.About 9,000 of the would-be immigrants have been waiting for 15 or more years to immigrate, local activists say. About a quarter of that number, located in the capital Addis Ababa, have been waiting for more than 20 years, they say, while the rest, in Gondar city, have been hanging on for 15 to 20 years.About 140,000 Jews of Ethiopian origin live in Israel today. Some 22,000 were airlifted to Israel during Operation Moses in 1984 and Operation Solomon in 1991, mostly from the Beta Israel community. While Ethiopian Jewish immigrants from the Beta Israel community are recognized as fully Jewish, immigrants from Ethiopia belonging to the smaller Falash Mura community are required to undergo Orthodox conversion after immigrating. The Falash Mura are Ethiopian Jews whose ancestors converted to Christianity, often under duress, generations ago. Some 30,000 of them have immigrated to Israel since 1997, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.Sue Surkes and agencies contributed to this report.

Islamic State claims Baghdad twin bombing at market that killed 32, wounded 110-Terror group says it was responsible for attack, the deadliest in city for 3 years; Iraqi president says will ‘stand firmly against these rogue attempts to destabilize our country’-By sabah arar-jan 22,21-Today, 12:12 pm

BAGHDAD (AFP) — The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for a twin suicide bombing that killed 32 people and wounded 110 at a crowded market in central Baghdad on Thursday. It was the deadliest attack on the city in three years, when another suicide bomber targeted the same area. The first attacker drew a crowd at the bustling market in the capital’s Tayaran Square by claiming to feel sick, then detonated his explosives belt, the interior ministry said.As more people then flocked to the scene to help the victims, a second suicide bomber set off his explosives. The open-air market, where second-hand clothes are sold at stalls, had been teeming with people after the lifting of nearly a year of COVID-19 restrictions across the country. An AFP photographer at the scene said security forces had cordoned off the area, where blood-soaked clothes were strewn across the muddy streets and paramedics were rushing to take away the casualties. The health ministry said those who lost their lives had died on the scene of the attack, and that most of the wounded had been treated and released from hospital. After midnight, IS posted a claim of responsibility for the attack on its online propaganda channels.Such violence was commonplace in Baghdad during the sectarian bloodletting that followed the US-led invasion of 2003 and later on as IS swept across much of Iraq and also targeted the capital. But with the group’s territorial defeat in late 2017, suicide bombings in the city became rare. Baghdad’s concrete blast walls were dismantled and checkpoints across the city removed.‘Senseless and barbaric’President Barham Saleh led political figures in condemning Thursday’s attack, saying the government would “stand firmly against these rogue attempts to destabilize our country.”Pope Francis, who hopes to visit Iraq in March, deplored the “senseless act of brutality.”The United States, the United Nations and the European Union strongly condemned the attack.US acting secretary of state Daniel Smith said the bombings “were vicious acts of mass murder and a sobering reminder of the terrorism that continues to threaten the lives of innocent Iraqis.”UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued an appeal “to the people of Iraq to reject any attempts to spread fear and violence aimed at undermining peace, stability and unity.”The EU called the attack “senseless and barbaric” and reiterated its “full support to the Iraqi authorities in the fight against extremism and terrorism.”The UN’s Iraq mission offered condolences to the victims and said: “Such a despicable act will not weaken Iraq’s march towards stability and prosperity.”Iran also denounced the attack, with foreign ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh saying his government was ready to assist Iraq “in the struggle against terrorism and extremism.”The attack, he said, was meant “to disrupt the peace and stability of Iraq and to provide a pretext for foreigners to maintain their presence there.”Elections looming-The attack comes as Iraqis prepare for an election, events often preceded by bombings and assassinations. The 2018 attack took place just a few months before Iraq’s last round of parliamentary elections.Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhemi had originally set this year’s general election for June, nearly a year ahead of schedule, in response to widespread protests in 2019.But authorities are in talks over rescheduling them to October, to give electoral authorities more time to register voters and new parties. The IS seized a third of Iraq in 2014 and was dangerously close to the capital, but a ferocious three-year fight by Iraqi troops pushed them back.Still, the group’s sleeper cells have continued to operate in desert and mountain areas, typically targeting security forces or state infrastructure with low casualty attacks. The US-led coalition that had been supporting Iraq’s campaign against IS has significantly drawn down its troop levels over the past year, citing the increased capabilities of Iraqi forces. The United States, which provides the bulk of the force, has 2,500 troops left in Iraq — down from 5,200 a year ago. They are mainly in charge of training, providing drone surveillance and carrying out airstrikes while Iraqi security forces handle security in urban areas.

1st treaty to ban nuclear weapons enters into force, ratified by just 61 nations-Accords opposed by 9 countries known or believed to possess nuclear weapons — US, Russia, Britain, China, France, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel — as well as NATO-By Edith M. Lederer-JAN 22,21-Today, 2:58 pm

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The first-ever treaty to ban nuclear weapons entered into force on Friday, hailed as a historic step to rid the world of its deadliest weapons but strongly opposed by the world’s nuclear-armed nations. The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons is now part of international law, culminating a decades-long campaign aimed at preventing a repetition of the US atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of World War II. But getting all nations to ratify the treaty requiring them to never own such weapons seems daunting, if not impossible, in the current global climate. When the treaty was approved by the UN General Assembly in July 2017, more than 120 approved it. But none of the nine countries known or believed to possess nuclear weapons — the United States, Russia, Britain, China, France, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel — supported it and neither did the 30-nation NATO alliance.Japan, the world’s only country to suffer nuclear attacks, also does not support the treaty, even though the aged survivors of the bombings in 1945 strongly push for it to do so. Japan on its own renounces use and possession of nuclear weapons, but the government has said pursuing a treaty ban is not realistic with nuclear and non-nuclear states so sharply divided over it.Anti-nuclear activists of ICAN (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons) and other peace initiatives stage a protest with 51 flags of countries that ratified the UN Treaty to Ban Nuclear Weapons and a banner reading ‘Nuclear weapons are forbidden! More than 50 states joined. Germany didn’t’, in front of the Chancellery in Berlin, on January 22, 2021 (Tobias Schwarz / AFP)-Nonetheless, Beatrice Fihn, executive director of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize-winning coalition whose work helped spearhead the treaty, called it “a really big day for international law, for the United Nations and for survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.”The treaty received its 50th ratification on Oct. 24, triggering a 90-day period before its entry into force on Jan. 22.As of Thursday, Fihn told The Associated Press that 61 countries had ratified the treaty, with another ratification possible on Friday, and “from Friday, nuclear weapons will be banned by international law” in all those countries. The treaty requires that all ratifying countries “never under any circumstances … develop, test, produce, manufacture, otherwise acquire, possess or stockpile nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices.” It also bans any transfer or use of nuclear weapons or nuclear explosive devices — and the threat to use such weapons — and requires parties to promote the treaty to other countries.Fihn said the treaty is “really, really significant” because it will now be a key legal instrument, along with the Geneva Conventions on conduct toward civilians and soldiers during war and the conventions banning chemical and biological weapons and land mines.UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the treaty demonstrated support for multilateral approaches to nuclear disarmament.“Nuclear weapons pose growing dangers and the world needs urgent action to ensure their elimination and prevent the catastrophic human and environmental consequences any use would cause,” he said in a video message. “The elimination of nuclear weapons remains the highest disarmament priority of the United Nations.”But not for the nuclear powers. As the treaty was approaching the 50 ratifications needed to trigger its entry into force, the Trump administration wrote a letter to countries that signed it saying they made “a strategic error” and urging them to rescind their ratification. The letter said the treaty “turns back the clock on verification and disarmament” and would endanger the half-century-old Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, considered the cornerstone of nonproliferation efforts.Fihn countered at the time that a ban could not undermine nonproliferation since it was “the end goal of the Nonproliferation Treaty.”Daryl Kimball, executive director of the Arms Control Association, said the treaty’s arrival was a historic step forward in efforts to free the world of nuclear weapons and “hopefully will compel renewed action by nuclear-weapon states to fulfill their commitment to the complete elimination of nuclear weapons.”Fihn said in an interview that the campaign sees strong public support for the treaty in NATO countries and growing political pressure, citing Belgium and Spain. “We will not stop until we get everyone on board,” she said.It will also be campaigning for divestment — pressuring financial institutions to stop giving capital to between 30 and 40 companies involved in nuclear weapons and missile production including Airbus, Boeing and Lockheed Martin.

IDF says it shot down drone that crossed into Israeli airspace from Lebanon-litary claims it identified UAV as it approached border and took it out; incident comes hours after predawn strikes in Syria attributed to Israel-By TOI staff-JAN 22,21-Today, 5:47 pm

The IDF shot down a drone that was crossing into Israeli airspace from Lebanon, the military said Friday. The drone was identified as it approached the border and “monitored by the IDF throughout the incident,” the IDF said.“The IDF will continue to act to prevent any violation of the sovereignty of the State of Israel,” the military added in a statement. There were no reports of injuries or damage.Last month, the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah claimed to have flown a drone into Israel and filmed two military bases near the border.Hezbollah’s television channel al-Manar said the aerial video was filmed during the “Lethal Arrow” drill held by the Israel Defense Forces in October, which included the simulation of a war in the north against the terror group. That drone returned to Lebanon without being exposed, Hezbollah claimed. The latest drone incident on Friday came hours after Syrian media reported that Israeli airstrikes targeted a site near the city of Hama in northwestern Syria. These were the first Israeli strikes against targets in Syria reported since US President Joe Biden entered office earlier this week and the fifth such alleged attack in the past month. The nature of the target was not immediately known. Israel has reportedly bombed sites connected to Iran’s alleged missile production and transport efforts in the area of Hama before.According to the official Syrian state news outlet SANA, a family of four was killed during the bombardment, which it referred to as “Israeli aggression,” and at least three homes were damaged on the outskirts of Hama. The Syrian military did not explicitly say the deaths and destruction were caused by Israeli munitions, likely indicating that they were instead caused by Syrian surface-to-air missiles that misfired or by shrapnel. Syrian air defenses have caused the deaths of several Syrian civilians.

Israel has called in vain to ban his 'genocidal' tweets-Khamenei account suspended after tweet of Trump golfing under warplane shadow-Twitter freezes account linked to Iranian supreme leader for threats to avenge 2020 Soleimani death, but main account that routinely threatens destruction of Jewish state still up-By TOI staff and Agencies-JAN 22,21-Today, 5:48 pm

Twitter said Friday it has permanently banned an account believed to be linked to the office of the country’s supreme leader after a posting that seemed to threaten former US President Donald Trump. In the image posted by the suspect account late Thursday, Trump is shown playing golf in the shadow of a giant drone, with the caption “Revenge is certain” written in Farsi. In response to a request for comment from The Associated Press, a Twitter spokesman said the account was fake and violated the company’s “manipulation and spam policy,” without elaborating how it came to that conclusion. The tweet of the golfer-drone photo violated the company’s “abusive behavior policy,” Twitter’s spokesman added. In Iran, the suspect account — @khamenei_site — is believed to be linked to the office of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei because its behavior has mirrored that of other accounts identified in state-run media as tied to his office. It frequently posted excerpts from his speeches and other official content. In this case, the account carried a link to Khamenei’s website, where the same golf-drone photo had featured prominently. It was also retweeted by Khamenei’s main Farsi language account, @Khamenei-fa, which apparently deleted it after posting.Other accounts tied to Khamenei’s office that did not tweet the golf-drone photo, including his main English language account, remained active.#Twitter suspends account of #Iran Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei after it posted a call for an attack on Donald Trump to avenge the killing of its top military commander. pic.twitter.com/9dg0Jzl4pl — Steve Herman (@W7VOA) January 22, 2021-The post on the @khamenei_site Twitter account late Thursday warned there was no escape from payback for the US strike outside Baghdad airport which killed Iran’s foreign military operations chief General Qassem Soleimani and his Iraqi lieutenant.“Revenge is inevitable. Soleimani’s killer and the man who gave the orders must face vengeance,” it said.“Revenge can take place at any moment.”By Friday morning Twitter had suspended the account. However, Khamenei’s office runs several accounts and the others were still working, including his main account, which he regularly uses to call for the destruction of the Jewish state.Twitter has refused Israeli pleas to close such accounts and ban the Iranian leader’s genocidal comments, to no avail. Last year, a Twitter official told MKs those tweets did not breach its policy, since they were regarded as “saber-rattling.”Trump left office on Wednesday and flew straight to his Mar-a-Lago golf club in Florida, without attending the inauguration of his successor US President Joe Biden.Iranian officials have pledged repeatedly that Soleimani will be avenged.Earlier this month, on the first anniversary of his killing, judiciary chief Ebrahim Raisi warned that not even Trump was “immune from justice” and that Soleimani’s killers would “not be safe anywhere in the world.”Soleimani was the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ powerful Quds Force, which has been designated a terrorist organization and accused of aiding Shiite forces that killed thousands of American troops in Iraq. He also backed Shiite terror groups like Hezbollah and forces fighting in Syria and Yemen.Twitter’s move against Khamenei comes after it suspended Trump’s account following the storming of the US Capitol, citing the “risk of further incitement of violence.”The social platform had been under growing pressure to take further action against Trump following the January 6 deadly insurrection. Twitter initially suspended Trump’s account for 12 hours after he posted a video that repeated false claims about election fraud and praised the rioters who stormed the Capitol.Following the banning of Trump’s account, pressure mounted on the social media company to also target others who incite violence.Israel has long-called for Twitter to act against Khamenei’s accounts over their “anti-Semitic and genocidal” messages.Even though some govts started a treacherous, contemptible move toward normalizing relations with the Zionists, they're too small to end the matter of #Palestine. No! Palestine will be free, while the fake Zionist regime will perish. There's no doubt about this. — Khamenei.ir (@khamenei_ir) November 3, 2020-Strategic Affairs Minister Orit Farkash-Hacohen sent a letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey last year calling for the “immediate suspension” of Khamenei’s account “over his consistent posting of anti-Semitic and genocidal posts,” her ministry said in a statement.“Examples of such include Khamenei calling for the ‘elimination’ of the ‘Zionist entity’ while asserting the ‘Zionist regime is a deadly, cancerous growth,’ which must ‘be uprooted and destroyed,’” the letter read.Last May, he posted a graphic endorsing Israel’s destruction that invoked the term “final solution.”The term “final solution” usually refers to the Nazi policy of extermination carried out against Jews during the Holocaust.Last July, a Twitter official told MKs that the tweets in which Khamenei calls for Israel’s destruction do not violate the company’s rules against hate speech, and indicated that they are considered mere “foreign policy saber-rattling.”“We have an approach toward leaders that says that direct interactions with fellow public figures, comments on political issues of the day, or foreign policy saber-rattling on military-economic issues are generally not in violation of our rules,” Ylwa Pettersson, Twitter’s head policy for the Nordic countries and Israel, told the Knesset’s Committee for Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs, via video-conference.In the past, Israel has managed to have Twitter ban only Israelis from seeing tweets from terror groups, including Gaza rulers Hamas.Iran is openly sworn to Israel’s destruction and financially supports terrorist groups, like Hezbollah and Hamas, which are committed to this aim.

Syrian media reports Israeli airstrikes near western city of Hama-Family of four said killed during the attack, homes damaged in the area, but more likely from Syrian air defenses than Israeli munitions; fifth alleged strike in the past month-By Judah Ari Gross and TOI staff-jan 22,21-Today, 5:16 am

Israeli airstrikes targeted a site near the city of Hama in northwestern Syria in the predawn hours of Friday morning, Syrian media reported. The Syrian military did not explicitly say the deaths and destruction were caused by Israeli munitions, likely indicating that they were instead caused by Syrian surface-to-air missiles that misfired or from shrapnel. Syrian air defenses have caused the deaths of several Syrian civilians.SANA quoted a military source as saying the attack had come from the direction of the city of Tripoli on Lebanon’s coast. The Israel Defense Forces refused to comment on the late-night strikes, in accordance with its policy to neither confirm nor deny its operations in Syria, save for those in retaliation for an attack from the country. The IDF has launched hundreds of strikes in Syria since the start of the civil war in 2011 against moves by Iran to establish a permanent military presence in the country and efforts to transport advanced, game-changing weapons to terrorist groups in the region, principally Hezbollah.Friday’s strikes appeared to be the first such attacks during the Biden administration, which is expected to take a more conciliatory approach to Iran than its predecessor. At the same time, Israeli analysts do not anticipate Biden to prevent the Jewish state from striking Iranian military targets in Syria.Tensions climbed ahead of the transition as the Trump administration and Iran traded threats and made accusations, and Iran carried out another significant breach of the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal it signed with world powers.Israeli officials have also issued threats against Iran in recent weeks and warned against the US returning to the nuclear deal.Earlier this month, massive Israeli airstrikes targeted a number of sites in Syria near the Iraq border, an area with a major Iranian military presence that is believed to be used by Tehran to move weapons throughout the region, Syrian media reported. The strikes, which reportedly targeted more than 15 Iran-linked facilities, were the fourth reported attack by Israel against Iranian targets in Syria in weeks, a significant increase from the normal rate of such strikes.Unverified reports said 57 fighters were killed.A senior US intelligence official with knowledge of the attack told the Associated Press that the airstrikes were carried out with intelligence provided by the United States and targeted a series of warehouses in Syria that were being used as part of the pipeline to store and stage Iranian weapons.Last month, a series of airstrikes attributed to Israel hit four weapons manufacturing facilities near the town of Masyaf, also in the area of Hama.

Documentary highlights the ‘Human Factor’ in Israel-Palestinian peace talks-New film takes intimate look at efforts to broker agreement through the personal experiences of US officials who mediated the negotiations-By Jocelyn Noveck-JAN 22,21-Today, 2:50 pm

AP — Ready for a documentary about three decades of agonizing fits and starts of the Middle East peace process, from the perspective of US negotiators? You’re probably thinking that doesn’t sound too enticing right about now.But there’s a reason “The Human Factor,” by Israeli filmmaker Dror Moreh, escapes what would seem a likely fate of being interesting only to policy wonks and those with a direct stake in the issue, and it has something to do with the title. It’s a reference to a line from Dennis Ross, the best-known negotiator of the bunch.“You can’t ignore the human factor,” he says at the beginning. “Someone who has a human touch treats someone else with respect. Someone who has a human touch doesn’t think they’re going to outsmart anybody.”The film goes on to prove the point, threading a delicate line between giving us necessary facts and sounding like a dry history lesson. But the value is in the small, and yes, human details — like the fact that Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat took it upon himself to cut Ross’ chicken for him when they ate together. Or the incongruous sight of Arafat’s entourage watching “The Golden Girls” on TV.The film is full of such humanizing touches, not just about Arafat but about Israeli leaders and American ones, too. Like Bill Clinton, depicted here as a man on a career-defining mission to achieve a peace deal. One small but stunning anecdote: As the Monica Lewinsky scandal is breaking, casting a cloud over Clinton’s presidency, Ross looks over at his boss’ notepad during a crucial meeting. Clinton is writing: “Focus on your job. Focus on your job.”The film traces the long slog of peace efforts through archival footage and interviews with key negotiators: Ross, who played a huge role for more than a decade, working for presidents from Reagan to Obama; Martin Indyk, twice the US ambassador to Israel; and negotiators Gamal Helal, Aaron David Miller and Daniel Kurtzer.Through these men, especially Ross, we get a close-up view of world leaders and how they behaved behind closed doors. There’s a fascinating description of a meal in the small dining room off the Oval Office between Clinton, Arafat, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and King Hussein of Jordan.Ross describes an offended Hussein admonishing Netanyahu as if he were a wayward schoolboy: “You don’t have the maturity to be a leader,” he tells him, according to Ross. “You have to grow up and become a leader.” There’s silence in the room.At another point, Ross describes Clinton exclaiming about Netanyahu: “Who does he think the superpower is?”This is, of course, after the death of prime minister Yitzhak Rabin at the hands of a Jewish extremist in 1995, as he pursued peace. The film effectively portrays the grudging respect that had slowly formed between Rabin and Arafat, from a moment when shaking hands was a painful gesture to a time when Arafat would casually drape his arm across Rabin’s back. For this viewer, the most “human” factor of the film comes with the shock over Rabin’s death, especially from Ross himself. The negotiator recounts that he’d been taking one of his children home from a doctor’s visit when he was paged by then secretary of state Warren Christopher.Once the news sunk, Ross’ wife had to explain to their children why Dad was crying. “They’d never seen me cry before,” he says. And, speaking to the camera today, the tears return. “It’s obviously still a moment I really can’t talk about,” he says.Ross would, of course, stay on the job, trying to broker peace between Arafat and Netanyahu, or Arafat and prime minister Ehud Barak. Clinton was determined, but that wasn’t enough. The high-stakes 2000 Camp David summit fails to produce an agreement, and we see Clinton in his last days in office in January 2001, in a call with Arafat, who calls him a “great man.”“No I’m not,” Ross quotes Clinton as saying. “I’m a failure.”The film does not, of course, conclusively answer its primary question: What went wrong? But there’s a hint. It is Miller who raises most directly one of the most serious issues: Was the United States ever really equipped to be an “honest broker”? Was real peace ever possible when the Americans were essentially, as Miller puts it in retrospect, acting as Israel’s lawyers? “I don’t think I am free from prejudgments,” he says. And he asks: “Did we have Palestinian lawyers?”

Israeli director Dror Moreh goes behind closed doors of the sincere, though largely failed efforts spearheaded by the United States by interviewing a handful of the American negotiators in his new documentary, “The Human Factor,” opening January 22 in the US.This past November marked the 25th anniversary of the assassination of Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin by right-wing Jewish extremist Yigal Amir. Moreh sees this as a fitting time to reflect on the derailment of the peace process Rabin worked so hard on. He does so from the unique perspective of the Americans who devoted decades of their careers trying to create a more secure and tranquil Middle East.Moreh, whose work often focuses on geopolitics, is the director of the critically acclaimed, Oscar-nominated 2012 “The Gatekeepers.” In it, he conducted unprecedented on-camera interviews with all six former heads of Israel’s secret service — the Shin Bet — who were still living at the time.In “The Human Factor,” we hear from well-known figures special Middle East envoy Dennis Ross, Ambassador Martin Indyk, Ambassador Daniel Kurtzer, State Department analyst Aaron David Miller, special assistant to president Bill Clinton for Arab-Israeli affairs Robert Malley, and State Department interpreter and Middle East advisor Gamal Helal. Most of these men have penned books sharing their insights on the peace process, but now they collectively reflect on what went right and wrong.“The Human Factor” tracks in detail the diplomatic maneuvers carried out by American delegations at the behests of presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton from the 1991 Madrid Peace Conference through to the failed Camp David summit in July 2000.When asked why he ended the film just ahead of the bloody Second Intifada, Moreh, 59, told The Times of Israel that he didn’t believe there was any positive momentum to portray beyond that. (In a related, upcoming six-part series for Israeli television, the filmmaker does bring the unresolved saga fully up to date.)-“The last effort to really reach an agreement was at Camp David. Everything that came after that was just a pale, shadowy mirror of leaders trying to build something that wasn’t prudent. Nothing that came later was as profound or as serious as what came prior to and at Camp David,” Moreh said. The following are excerpts (edited for length and clarity) from a recent interview with Moreh, who spoke to The Times of Israel from his home in Tel Aviv during Israel’s latest COVID-19 lockdown. Why did you decide to focus the film on the narrative of the American negotiators? There have been so many movies and articles about what happened through the prism of the Palestinian and Israeli negotiators. I heard everything and read everything. For me, what was interesting was the American negotiators. Their job was to bring the two sides into an agreement at the end of the day. Their success would have been measured in whether they succeeded in getting an agreement or not. They are the professionals, and I wanted them to tell me why this process failed. America invested in this diplomatic process more than any other in modern American history…Not only did they fail, but things are much worse now. I wanted to know from people who were in  the room what went wrong from their point of view. I wanted them to tell me why this process failed-Do you think the Americans really had a grasp of the situation, and of the mindsets and motivations of the Palestinians and Israelis? I think the people I interviewed, each in his own capacity and with his own views, understands the Middle East far better than many others. They spend a lot of time here. They know the players very well.If you want to move to the future you have to reconcile the problems of what both sides see as the wrongdoings and injustices of the past. Both the Israelis and the Palestinians are living in the past. The Americans know this, but I don’t think they truly understand it. The modus operandi of the Americans and the West is, “Okay, we understand the past, but let’s just move on.”But the Israelis and the Palestinians are living in the past-Aaron David Miller spoke about this wishful thinking on the part of the Americans. He said, “We saw the world as we wanted to see it, not the way it was.”Left to Right: Gamal Helal, Bill Clinton, Yasser Arafat at Camp David, July 2000.“The Gatekeepers” dealt with matters of ethics and morality. This film is lacking that, other than the question of whether the American negotiators — almost all of whom were Jewish — were biased in favor of Israel. The heads of the Shin Bet decide to torture people, kill people. They deal with morality all the time. The American negotiators deal with negotiation. There aren’t a lot of ethical questions beyond the bias question, which they address. Ross said that negotiators don’t necessarily have to be unbiased, and that those who do not bring passion to what they do will not succeed in negotiation. Miller spoke about the fact that the milieu in which you grow up influences you, and that this led the American negotiators to unfortunately act as Israel’s lawyer at Camp David. What were the practical implications of this? Not the Israelis, and definitely not the Americans, saw what was required to come up with to reach a final deal. They were very far away from the Palestinian thinking… When it came to Camp David, [Israeli prime minster Ehud] Barak was dictating what should be and how it should be done and the Americans went along with it. The collapse of Camp David was due in large part to that.No one was really ready to make a deal yet and that’s the tragedy. They all regret that. Dennis said in front of the cameras that he should have known better. It was a sort of mea culpa for pushing for Camp David at that time because Barak was pushing for a summit and a final deal. [PLO chairman Yasser] Arafat didn’t want to come to Camp David and said openly he wasn’t ready. He didn’t want to be blamed for the collapse of summit. No one was really ready to make a deal yet and that’s the tragedy. The Americans should have been better prepared. (Clinton would indeed subsequently blame Arafat for the failure of the effort: “I regret that in 2000 Arafat missed the opportunity to bring that nation into being and pray for the day when the dreams of the Palestinian people for a state and a better life will be realized in a just and lasting peace.” — R G-Z)-Indyk and Ross say in the film that had deals between Israel and the Palestinians — and between Israel and Syria and Lebanon — been achieved, the Middle East would look different today. Do you agree? Many in Israel are relieved that they didn’t reach peace, because had we given back the Golan Heights, Assad’s friends would be on the Kinneret [Sea of Galilee] now… It’s a “what if” question, and we are not in the what if, we are in reality. The reality is that the Middle East is undergoing tectonic changes. I believe that had there been peace between Israel and Syria, it may have prevented Syria from disintegrating. The reality is that the Middle East is undergoing tectonic changes-What if Rabin had remained alive? And what if Barak had not been a small man? It’s an amazing question. I don’t think the negotiators are naΓ―ve. I think the Middle East would be different — but how so? Nobody knows. Have you asked the negotiators what they think about the Trump administration’s policies and actions? They all hate the Trump administration, or Trump himself for what happened during these four years. They see the Abraham Accords agreements with the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco as indicating that something changed in terms of the Middle Eastern paradigm. But no one will continue to engage in peace with Israel until the Palestinian problem is solved. It’s basically Trump doing deals, which is what he does. The US gives the Arab countries what they want and Israel doesn’t have to give anything. The real core hard issues are here [in Israel], not in Sudan. The negotiators thought that Trump’s “Deal of the Century” is a disaster and will never be accepted. I also haven’t heard from any of them that moving the American embassy to Jerusalem or closing the consulate in East Jerusalem will bring the Palestinians closer to agreeing to negotiating. Left to Right: Yasser Arafat, Hosni Mubarak, Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres at Oslo B Summit in Washington, DC.The original title for your film was “The Negotiators.” Why did you change it to “The Human Factor?”What was most revealing to me was how much of a role the human factor plays in those places. You would have thought that inside the room, they speak about Jerusalem, the right of return, and the like. But I learned how important the chemistry between these leaders is. When it was there it helped, and when it did not exist it hindered everything. The first time Rabin saw Arafat in the White House, before they went out to sign the Oslo I Agreement on the White House lawn, you see on his face, “What the fuck am I doing here? Who is this guy?”But then you see the slow process of building the confidence between them. Arafat was problematic, but Rabin truly kind of slowly came to know him, came to understand him, maybe to respect him even. You see that at the signing of the second Oslo II Agreement, just two weeks before his assassination.
