OZONE DEPLETION JUDGEMENT ON THE EARTH DUE TO SIN

ISAIAH 30:26-27
26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold,(7X OR 7-DEGREES HOTTER) as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people,(ISRAEL) and healeth the stroke of their wound.
27 Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire:

MATTHEW 24:21-22,29
21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened,(DAY LIGHT HOURS SHORTENED) there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake (ISRAELS SAKE) those days shall be shortened (Daylight hours shortened)(THE ASTEROID HITS EARTH HERE)
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

REVELATION 16:7-9
7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

FIRES AND EXPLOSIONS

REVELATION 8:7
7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

May 04, 2016  | Fort Mac fire latest climate change flashpoint-NEWHAMBURG INDEPENDENT

OTTAWA — The raging forest fire that's forced the evacuation of Fort McMurray, Alta., has brought out the worst on social media, with sanctimonious eco-trolls posting incendiary, insensitive and unhelpful barbs describing the conflagration as climate change "karma" for a city that is synonymous with oilsands development."Karmic #climatechange fire burns CDN oilsands city," former Alberta NDP candidate Tom Moffatt of Lethbridge posted on Twitter, prompting such a firestorm of criticism that he appears to have deleted the post."Burn, tarsands, burn!" offered up Quebecker Edouard Dugas."I hope everyone gets the irony of a massive fire in the heart of big oil country," posted Jim Ray of Guelph, Ont.Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whose Liberal government has made combating climate change a central theme, was having none of it Wednesday."It's well known that one of the consequences of climate change will be a greater prevalence of extreme weather events around the planet," Trudeau said at a news conference in Ottawa."However any time we try to make a political argument out of one particular disaster, I think there's a bit of a shortcut that can sometimes not have the desired outcome.""There have always been fires. There have always been floods," said Trudeau. "Pointing at any one incident and saying, 'well, this is because of that,' is neither helpful nor entirely accurate. We need to separate a pattern over time from any one event."It was a prudent — and political — response. The sobering fact, however, is that scientists have been warning for at least two decades that a changing climate is contributing to an increase in global wildfire risks and Fort McMurray fits the pattern. That does not make the city of 80,000 deserving of environmental scorn."I find it offensive for people to refer to what's going on to Fort McMurray as some sort of come-uppance," said Andrew Weaver, a climate scientist who now sits as a Green party member of B.C.'s provincial legislature. "The reality is we are all consumers of products that come from oil."Weaver was part of a research team that in 2004 published a study establishing the connection between a warming climate and increased Canadian wildfires. But at least as early as 1993, scientific papers were exploring the link between rising carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, global warming and longer Canadian fire seasons. It's a global phenomenon. A 2015 study in the journal Nature Communications found that between 1979 and 2013 the fire season has lengthened for more than a quarter of the planet's surface vegetation. In South America, the fire season has increased by an average 33 days. Globally, CO2 from wildfires can amount to more than half of all emissions from burning fossil fuels.Alberta's wildfire season used to start at the beginning of April. Now it begins March 1."This is a foretaste of things to come," Mike Flannigan, professor of wildland fire at the University of Alberta, said in an interview Wednesday.Looking at the annual Canadian fire data shows a series of spikes in area burned, said Flannigan. But using 10-year averages, he said, reveals that about one million hectares of forest burned annually in the early 1970s, a number that's now averaging well over two million hectares. The three essential elements of wildfires are fuel, ignition sources and weather — with dry, hot weather impacting the quality of the fuel and both the sources and ease of ignition.Lightning strikes, for instance, increase 12 per cent for every one degree Celsius increase in temperature. Calgary on Tuesday broke a 119-year-old temperature record.Even when climate change spurs changes in rainfall, said Flannigan, warmer temperatures can cause more evaporation and dryer conditions — a subject he explored in a research paper published last October."What's happening in Fort McMurray is unprecedented, it really is. But these aren't one-offs," said Flannigan, citing devastating forest fires in Kelowna, B.C. and Great Slave Lake, Alta."Next year it could be Dryden, Bagotville, Rimouski. We live, work and play in the boreal forest. When you do, fire is part of the boreal forest environment."— Follow @BCheadle on Twitter-By Bruce Cheadle, The Canadian Press

Premier Notley to survey damage to Fort McMurray on Monday, fire growth slows-[The Canadian Press]-Rob Drinkwater and Dean Bennett, The Canadian Press-May 8, 2016-yahoonews

EDMONTON - Wildfires that levelled neighbourhoods in Fort McMurray slowed their rampage through tinder dry forest in northern Alberta on Sunday, allowing firefighters in the oilpatch city to focus on hotspots as plans were made for Premier Rachel Notley to survey the damage first-hand.Notley said the fight against the fire has stabilized to the point where she can visit and begin the next phase of the government's operation to determine what must be done to eventually allow people to return to the city.Speaking at a media briefing, Notley had to pause to compose herself when she spoke about Mother's Day and two evacuees who were killed in a traffic accident last week."Our hearts go out to their families. This is Mother's Day. I am hoping, in all of this crisis, to spend a few minutes today with my own children," Notley said, pausing as her voice cracked. "That not all of us can do that is definitely an awful tragedy. So today, Mother's Day, all of us in Alberta are thinking of you who have suffered these loses."Emily Ryan, 15, and her stepmother's nephew, Aaron Hodgson, died in the accident a day after the fire drove 80,000 people from the city.Notley was scheduled to visit Fort McMurray on Monday. The premier warned residents to brace themselves for the images they will see, reminding them that counselling services are available."There will be some dramatic images coming from media over the next couple of days," she said.Chad Morrison with Alberta Wildfire said firefighters have held the line against the fire better than they expected in Fort McMurray. The weather was also changing and below seasonal temperatures will help firefighters who have been battling the blaze since May 1, he said. The wildfire did not grow to the size that was expected on Saturday, Morrison said. It covered an area of about 1,600 square kilometres on Sunday and was 30 to 40 kilometres from the Saskatchewan-Alberta boundary. For the first time since the evacuation began, Morrison expressed a note of optimism in the battle."For us, this is great firefighting weather. We can really get in there and really get a handle on this fire and really get a death grip on it," he said."For the wildfire stuff, out in the forested area, that's going to take us a long time to clean up. But I feel very buoyed and happy that we are making great progress, especially in the community."Mother's Day didn't go unmarked at an event for evacuees in Lac la Biche, about three hours south of Fort McMurray.Volunteers organized a Mother's Day Tea complete with cupcakes, pastries and fruit, along with arts and craft supplies for kids. Girls belonging to a local dance troupe provided the entertainment and handed out fresh roses to all the women in the room.Wanda Banfield said camping in Wandering River wasn't how she pictured her Mother's Day. She, her husband and three children — aged 9, 12 and 14 — stopped by the Bold Centre to pick up supplies."As long as I've got my husband and three kids, that's all that matters," she said.Lisa Applegarth fled the community of Janvier with her partner, nine children and twin, 17-day-old grandchildren.Mother's Day has been tough, said Applegarth, who sat outside the centre with a new, donated double-stroller for the twins."My kids were sad because they don't have the things that they made for me and I was kind of like, 'Well, it's OK. All mommy needs is your love.' "Notley was also scheduled to meet leaders from the province's oil industry on Tuesday to discuss the state of their operations and a timeline for restarting them.Syncrude and Suncor facilities north of Fort McMurray were evacuated but Morrison said the fire did not reach them.Notley also thanked Canadian National for reacting quickly to get potentially hazardous and flammable rail cars removed from the area."That was quick and critical work that save us from any repetition of the tragedy at Lac-Megantic," she said.Federal Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale visited an evacuation centre on Sunday in Edmonton. He told reporters that the dry conditions stretching from Quebec to British Columbia have already led to a number of wildfires early in the season."This is potentially a very long and difficult problem, not just for Albertans but for all Canadians this summer," he said. And while the situation in Fort McMurray improved Sunday, Goodale cautioned that it still has a tough road ahead."Because of the weather in the last few hours and the weather forecast going forward, it would appear that the situation is moderating, perhaps a bit," he said."We may be turning a corner but, quite frankly, it's too early to celebrate. There's still a tremendous amount that needs to be done."— With files from Lauren Krugel in Lac la Biche, Alta.

Canada wildfire advance 'slows' as evacuations finish-bbcnews-may 8,16

A huge wildfire ravaging the Canadian province of Alberta has grown more slowly than feared, officials say.Firefighters have held key areas and the blaze now covers about 621 sq miles (1,610 sq km) - less than the 700 sq miles estimated on Saturday. But it could be months before the fire is fully brought under control.More than 100,000 residents of Fort McMurray have fled the blaze. Alberta Premier Rachel Notleysaid has spoken of "very difficult conditions".Chad Morrison from Alberta wildfire told the news conference he had some "good news"."With a little help from mother nature and a bit of a break in the weather, and credit to the all the hard work of all the firefighters we were able to hold most of the line in Fort McMurray," he said. The wildfire is now said to be about 30-40 km (18-24 mi) from the neighbouring province of Saskatchewan, but is yet to spill over, despite an earlier report.Air quality warnings have been issued for Saskatchewan and Northwest Territories, with locals advised to close windows and doors due to smoke. Its advance has been fuelled by hot weather and tinder-dry terrain and officials warned only significant rainfall would halt its advance. The fire is expected to be the most expensive natural disaster in Canadian history, with insurance costs alone already running into billions of dollars. The blaze ruined entire neighbourhoods in Fort McMurray, with residents warned it could be some time before they can return.Officials say the power grid is damaged and the water undrinkable. No deaths or injuries have been reported from the fire, but two people died in traffic accidents during the evacuation. Some 1,600 homes and other buildings have been lost, a figure likely to rise.In the rush to leave, some Fort McMurray residents were forced to flee without their pets and a website has been set up so volunteers can reach stranded animals."We're hearing about lots of dogs and cats, but also one guy has 32 geckos that need rescue," Shannon Orell-Bast told the Globe and Mail.More than 500 firefighters are battling the blaze with helicopters, air tankers and other heavy equipment.Nick Waddington from the Fort McMurray Fire Department said one crew member saw his house burn down before going on to work an 18-hour shift.Fort McMurray is in the heart of Canada's oil sands country, and the region has the world's third-largest reserves of oil. Workers at major oil companies have also been evacuated. As much as a quarter of the country's oil production has been halted by the fire, raising concerns about the effect on the Canadian economy. There are warnings the blaze could burn to the edge of a facility run by Suncor Energy but officials said the risk of damage was low.Are you in the area? Furry Fort Mac evacuees fly to safety aboard Canadian North-[CBC]-May 7, 2016-YAHOONEWS

Northern airline Canadian North made room for some extra passengers this week to help the people — and the pets — affected by the fires in Fort McMurray. In the massive evacuation Tuesday, many Fort McMurray residents were directed to flee north of the city to oilsands camps. Canadian North has since flown thousands of evacuees out from the camps and at least one flight last Thursday made sure no one was left behind. In addition to 130 human passengers from the Albian oilsands camp, Flight 1515 to Edmonton also welcomed aboard 19 dogs, five cats (including one named "Meow Meow") and two turtles. With not enough space for the animals in the cargo hold, pets laid on people's laps and in the aisle during the 53-minute flight.Flight attendant Wanda Murray said it was an emotional flight. "I know what these people have left and they may not have anything to go back to," she said. Not that Murray forgot her professional obligations. She still conducted a safety demonstration, passenger count and, yes, a pet count."We had a Great Dane. I was standing over top of a dog doing my safety demonstration," she said."They were all well behaved. No accidents."-A flight that 'will always remain in my memory'-Canadian North spokesperson Kelly Lewis admits it's unusual to have so many large animals free in the cabin."There really were no other options," he said. "We weren't going to let people leave their pets behind. We know how much they love them and we love animals, too."Despite the crowded conditions, Murray said the pets and their weary owners appreciated the help."When we touched down, we got a standing ovation. It brought tears to our eyes. They are the heroes, not us."It's a flight that will always remain in my memory."Get breaking news alerts on this story and others. Wildfires along Manitoba-Ontario border growing, officials say-[CBC]-May 7, 2016-YAHOONEWS

Wildfires burning along the Manitoba-Ontario border are growing worse, putting those who own homes and cottages in the area on edge.As of Friday, the fire burning in Manitoba's Nopiming Provincial Park near Beresford Lake grew to 13,000 hectares. There, 25 people were forced to flee the area along with six others in remote cottages. At last word, a second fire burning near the province's Caddy Lake was covering 700 hectares.Robert Granke and his wife were watching the sky turn black with smoke on Saturday evening from their cottage, located on the south end of Caddy Lake."It's quite unnerving," he said."We've been really nervous since the fire started and wanted to be out here to have a look ourselves. So, we were somewhat reassured the last few days but now when we see this it's quite unsettling."The idea of losing the cottage is an awful one for Granke and others in the area, he said."It's very scary, basically. There's a lot of people who have a lot invested and really love to be out here and the prospect of it being damaged is not a very good one."With no access from the ground, nine water bombers from Manitoba and Ontario continue to work on the fires."Some left last night … And [officials] said like, you know, you need to be gone for a couple of hours, see what's going to happen with the fire," Babynchuk said on Saturday."So we went over to a cabin at Long Lake, which is about five miles down the road … We stayed there for a few hours."Around 11:30 p.m., Babynchuk returned to her home, but on Saturday morning, officials came back, telling her to leave. As of Saturday, evacuation orders are still in place for Ontario's Ingolf, Tannis and Gundy Lakes, too. Highway 312, which runs through Ingolf, is also closed due to poor visibility from smoke.

Fort McMurray fire captain calls out-of-city 1st responders 'the real heroes'-[CBC]-May 7, 2016-YAHOONEWS

Even though Capt. Adam Bugden has been working flat out since Tuesday, he can't bring himself to say he's a hero."I wouldn't consider myself a hero but I've met more heroes in this experience than I've ever thought existed," he said Saturday.Bugden, a nine-year veteran with the Fort McMurray fire department, has been on scene ever since the wildfire began its threatening advance on the city this week.He pointed to the many first responders, including police and firefighters from around the province and country, who are on the frontlines working to protect his home."They are heroes to me," he said, his voice breaking with emotion.Bugden, like the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Fire Chief Darby Allen, described the fire as a "beast," and called the experience of battling it "surreal.""I've never seen anything like this in my life and I never want to see it again," he said.Throughout this week, Bugden battled fatigue. At one point, he was working to save homes from being destroyed on only eight hours of sleep over three days. Others worked 40 hours straight, Bugden added.Only now are firefighters beginning to get some much needed rest and regular meals."We all have busted up feet and hands," he said. "One structure after another is going up and we were losing for a long time."The work is physically demanding, with firefighters hauling hose, repeatedly going up and down hills and fighting massive flames. Bugden said that the camaraderie among firefighters, the sharing of feelings and dark humour has helped keep spirits up."It's not time to grieve or to be sad yet because we've still got a really big job to do," he said.Plans are in the works to get these firefighters some much-needed time off so they can reunite with family. But for now, Bugden isn't going to worry about that.Right now, Bugden said, he and his brothers in arms have a job to do."The most important thing is maintaining a safe perimeter around our home, because this is our home."

Drones reportedly spotted near 2 large B.C. wildfires-[CBC]-May 7, 2016-YAHOONEWS

British Columbia wildfire officials are reminding the public that flying drones near fires can be dangerous and costly.Fire information officer Amanda Reynolds said the BC Wildfire Service received two reports of unmanned aerial vehicles near wildfires on Friday. She says crews saw some people getting ready to launch a drone near the Beatton Airport Road fire, burning 45 kilometres north of Fort St. John, but when they were approached, the people got in their vehicle and drove away.Crews also received a report about a drone flying above the Alberta portion of the Siphon Creek fire, which B.C. crews are continuing to fight in a bid to relieve pressure on their Alberta counterparts. An unauthorized drone flying near the Testalinden Creek fire near Oliver, B.C., last August grounded eight helicopters and five planes for more than three hours, hampering firefighting efforts.Federal regulations ban the use of drones near wildfires, and violators can face penalties of up to $25,000 and 18 months in jail.Flames from both the Beatton Airport Road fire and the Siphon Creek fire have forced people to flee their homes, while others are prepared to leave at a moment's notice.Fort St. John Mayor Lori Ackerman has assured residents that the city is ready if a fire does encroach.-Gas tanks full, go-bags ready-"Our staff have set up an emergency operations centre and a reception centre. We have a plan in place and we don't need it yet," she said in a video posted to the Fort St. John Facebook page Friday night. She encouraged residents to keep their gas tanks full and go-bags ready."Stay safe. Stay informed. We've got your back," Ackerman said.Scattered showers in the region may provide some relief for crews fighting the blazes.Reynolds said rain fell Saturday on both the Beatton Airport Road fire and the Siphon Creek fire, both of which are burning north of Fort St. John. "We are having some windy conditions and winds are never good for fire suppression. But there is rain right now," she said.

12  Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.
13  And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves,

After Temple Mount resolution, PM offers UN staff a Jewish history lesson-Netanyahu announces session following passage of UNESCO text that omits mention of Jewish ties to holiest site in Judaism-By Times of Israel staff and AFP May 6, 2016, 8:50 pm

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday invited United Nations staff in Israel to a seminar on Jewish history, three weeks after the UN’s cultural body, UNESCO, declined in a resolution to acknowledge Jewish ties to the Temple Mount, Judaism’s holiest site. The UNESCO resolution refers to Israel as the “occupying power” at every mention and uses the Arabic Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram al-Sharif without even once calling it the Temple Mount, as it is known to Jews. The text does refer to the Western Wall Plaza but places it in quotation marks, after using the Arabic Al-Buraq Plaza. On Friday, Netanyahu reiterated that his “shock” that UNESCO would adopt “a decision denying any Jewish connection to the Temple Mount, our holiest site.”“That is why today I am announcing a seminar on Jewish history for all UN personnel in Israel,” he said in a statement.“I will personally host the lecture at the Prime Minister’s Office,” said Netanyahu, the son of renowned late historian Benzion Netanyahu, noting that it will be delivered by a “leading scholar of Jewish history.”Diplomats will also be invited, “including of countries which voted for this outrageous decision,” Netanyahu said of the resolution on “Occupied Palestine” presented by several Arab states.“I was shocked to hear that UNESCO adopted a decision denying any Jewish connection to the Temple Mount, our holiest site,” Netanyahu said in a statement when the resolution passed.“It is hard to believe that anyone, let alone an organization tasked with preserving history, could deny this link, which spans thousands of years.”The UNESCO resolution, authorized by the executive board’s Programme and External Relations Commission, was submitted by Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, and Sudan. The resolution was approved by 33 states, including France, Russia, Spain and Sweden. Seventeen countries abstained while six voted against including the United States, Estonia, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.Ghana and Turkmenistan were altogether absent from the vote at the 58-member board.Netanyahu said back when the UNESCO decision was announced that he would host a special lecture on Jewish history for all UN personnel in Israel. It was not immediately clear when the seminar would be held, but Reuters quoted sources close to the prime minister as saying it could be next week.It was also unclear how many UN staff and diplomats planned to attend. UNESCO had no immediate comment.

Man seeks restraining order against God-Haifa resident asks court to keep the Almighty away, claiming He is being mean to him-By Stuart Winer May 4, 2016, 2:54 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

An Israeli man has petitioned the Haifa Magistrate’s Court for a restraining order against God, claiming the Almighty has been particularly unkind to him.The initiator of the request, a resident of the northern port city, represented himself in court, the Walla news site reported on Wednesday.A protocol of the hearing noted that God did not turn up for the session, although it did not specify how the court determined the Omnipresent was not in fact there, as opposed to merely exercising the right to remain silent. The petitioner, who was not named in the report, noted that he had tried to obtain the restraining order from police for the past three years but that police had merely sent a patrol car to his home on 10 occasions. He argued that over a three-year period God, had exhibited a seriously negative attitude toward him, although details of just what divine mischief he had borne the brunt of were not mentioned in the report.Presiding Judge Ahsan Canaan denied the request, which he said was ludicrous, asserting the applicant needed help not from the court but rather from other sources. The report did not include a response on the outcome from any of the multitude of available spokespeople on behalf of the Lord.

In Gaza, deadly flames expose a very fragile standoff with Israel-After a fire kills 3 Palestinian children, Hamas points most of the blame at the PA. Plainly, it doesn’t want a new war… for now-By Avi Issacharoff May 8, 2016, 4:07 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

In one sudden and tragic moment on Friday night, discussion over the latest escalation of violence between Hamas and Israel was relegated to secondary importance for some residents of Gaza. Local media began reporting extensively on an incident in the northwest of the Strip, in the Shati refugee camp.Three toddlers from the al-Hindi family had perished in a fire in their home, caused by the candles lit in their room. The horror was reinforced by images of the three bodies that quickly spread across social media and on news sites that decided not to blur out the pictures.By Saturday morning, a vitriolic blame game between Hamas and Fatah was in full swing, with Israel also being connected to the incident. At the center of the stormy debate is the question of who is responsible for the continual power outages that led the bereaved family (like tens of thousands of other Gaza families) to light candles. The accusations began with members of the Hindi family themselves. On Saturday morning, they published pictures of some of the men in the extended family standing amid the rubble of what was left of the house, holding portraits of Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. On the pictures it was written “child killers.”The response from Ramallah came swiftly.Within a few hours, Jamal al-Muhsin, a member of Fatah’s central committee, said the Hindi family themselves were responsible for the deaths of the three children because they did not heed the instructions of the Gaza authorities, who urge residents not to leave candles burning in homes when dealing with power outages.Muhsin, who is considered one of the closest men to Abbas, also said that Hamas was responsible for the incident, because it does not allow the government of Hamdallah to operate in the Strip and deal with the power problem.Additionally, in an attempt to ease the criticism against the PA over the fire in Gaza, Abbas spoke over the phone to the father of the three killed children. Hamdallah also announced the family will be given a new house and some money. But the story doesn’t end there. At the funeral for the three children Saturday afternoon, Hamas’s Gaza head Ismail Haniyeh accused the government in Ramallah of strongly opposing a seaport in Gaza and refusing to “establish projects” to lift the siege — the security blockade imposed by Israel and Egypt on Gaza, to prevent its Hamas terror rulers from importing weaponry.“Who bears the responsibility?” asked Haniyeh. “Who takes $70 million in taxes each month? Who insists on imposing a tax on fuel for the power station? Who refuses to extend the gas line from Israel to the power station in Gaza?” Haniyeh fumed, while noting that the PA’s shortcomings did not detract from “the crimes of the occupation” — i.e. Israel. At the heart of the power supply dispute is an excise tax on fuel that comes from Israel via the PA. Hamas refuses to pay and demands the government in Ramallah pony up. The PA is paying for half of the tax now and says Hamas must pay the other half.Meanwhile, the power company claims that it does not have enough money to buy sufficient gas. One can guess, then, that the power outages will continue. And therefore, the residents of Gaza will continue to use candles for light.-Hamas and Israel: A love-hate story-Still, even as Hamas speaks out against the PA, it seems to be doing whatever possible to avoid another round of fighting with Israel, limiting itself in its response to Israeli tunnel-seeking incursions into the Strip and seemingly accommodating, however grudgingly, Israeli activity within Gazan territory. In recent days the Israel Defense Forces have operated just inside Gaza – in a strip of 150 meters from the border within Palestinian territory. Hamas was content with firing a limited number of mortars into open areas in protest. What it did not do was fire rockets at Israeli towns or to send out its special forces for a raid by land or by sea.During the days that the IDF operated within the strip, Hamas sent messages to Israel via Qatar, Egypt, the UN and others to say that it was not interested in another war. An agreement was indirectly created between the two sides — with the help of Egyptian mediators — under which Israel will leave this inside “perimeter” soon, Hamas will cease firing, and during the fighting Hamas won’t do more than fire a few perfunctory rounds.Practically speaking, in a manner that it would never admit to, Hamas thus signaled it would not go to war over the recent Israeli operations on the border. Even in Haniyeh’s weekly Friday night speech, routinely full of pathos and battle cries against Israel, the former prime minister chose this time to emphasize that Hamas does not want a war.Yet the cold status quo could change. Within Hamas’s military wing, some are demanding the group take violent action with an “opening strike” that they hope will eventually bring about the lifting of the siege of Gaza. There is also increasing support among ordinary Gazans for a new round of fighting, especially among those who have little to lose. One errant Israeli shell or Palestinian mortar, as I wrote here on Friday, will strengthen advocates for war in both camps. But a deadly accident, like a candle knocked over, can ignite the region just the same.

Bionic arms, dragon robot are hit at Jerusalem event-Israeli capital is first foreign city to host the Geek PicNic outdoor science fair, established in Russia in 2011-By Jessica Steinberg April 27, 2016, 1:52 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

Tech lovers and nerds were in their element Tuesday, as the second day of a three-day outdoor science and technology fair in Jerusalem brought them into close contact with dragon robots and bionic arms.Geek PicNic, an event exported from Russia for the first time in its five-year history, has been brought to Israel’s capital for Passover, giving parents and kids visiting Sacher Park a novel way to fill at least some of the seven-day holiday.Event-goers swarmed around a massive metal dragon robot made in Russia and brought by ship to Israel, waited in line at the American-made “Hand of Man” to slip their hand into a robotic glove that crushed waiting cars, and sat on the grass in front of the stage, listening to a TED-style talk by a scientist in a white coat. It’s the first time the Russian festival, established by a handful of students in St. Petersburg in 2011, and later held in Moscow as well, has ever taken place abroad.Israel was chosen because it’s a place where startups and technology meet, and it made sense “philosophically,” said Nick Goreley, one of the original founders present at Geek PicNic Jerusalem-The organizers also sought a location that would have summery weather in the springtime, said Goreley, on a day that saw temperatures soar to 93° Fahrenheit as Israel was hit by a heatwave. It was producer Carmi Wurtman, a Jerusalem concert promoter who brings live shows and festivals to the capital, who thought Geek PicNic would be a good match for Jerusalem. After meeting with Goreley, Wurtman visited his first Geek PicNic in Moscow and agreed to host the event in Jerusalem, getting the municipality to co-sponsor what he hopes will become an annual event. That’s an enticing thought for Goreley, he said. The 26-year-old Russian entrepreneur said he and his partners came up with the first Geek Picnic in 2011, “just for fun.” They were more focused their second year and drew around 7,000 visitors with master classes and TED-style lectures, as well as a job fair for programmers. They receive no government support for the festival, said Goreley. The festival, said Wurtman, evokes elements of the annual American desert events of Burning Man and Coachella, bringing together creative types and iconoclasts from the technology and science worlds.Sacher Park was divided into areas of interest, such as drones, space, bionic parts and 3D printing, and offered a geek paradise in the form of a market selling items such as Star Wars and The Hobbit memorabilia, thought games and science experiment kits. There was also a gaming area and a fashion market that explored at how technology is changing the clothing industry. There were morning and evening events, with guests like “bionic” drummer Jason Barnes, who performs with his robotic arm, an electric lightning show, and a pair of warriors who dueled each other with lightning bolts.“It’s the Midburn of tech events,” said Wurtman, referring to the Israeli version of Nevada’s Burning Man, held each June in the Negev Desert.According to Wurtman, over 35,000 tickets were sold for the three-day festival, although everyone present Tuesday afternoon was from Intel Israel, a sponsor of the event. The best part of the event, said Wurtman, is the connections made between the different creators, who came from Israel, the US and Europe.

Work-related deaths in Israel among highest in West, report finds-54 laborers died in accidents in 2015, and over 50,000 were injured, resulting in billions of shekels in state payouts-By Times of Israel staff May 8, 2016, 1:22 pm

The rate of worker deaths in Israel is among the highest in the West, and double that of the European Union average, according to the findings of a new Economics Ministry and National Insurance Institute report published Sunday.Laborer deaths are on the rise when examined in five-year increments, the report said, and Israel’s 13.2 per 100,000 workers in 2013 was higher than the EU and United States. Most of the deaths are foreign laborers, the report found. In 2015, 54 laborers died in work accidents — 34 of whom were working on construction sites — and over 50,000 workers were injured. Most of the construction workers, 21 of the 34 who died, fell to their deaths.According to a Haaretz report in April, 15 workers died in work-related accidents in the first quarter of 2016. The Economy Ministry found that in half the cases, there were no sanctions imposed on contractors following worker deaths, according to the report. The state paid over NIS 4.5 billion in 2015 for workers’ compensation due to injury, amounting to over two million workdays and at the expense of billions to the national economy, the Economy Ministry said. The report’s findings “require concerted efforts to reduce work-related injuries in Israel,” head of the Economy Ministry’s safety administration told Haaretz, calling for greater cooperation to prevent accidents. On Sunday, hours after the report was published, a worker in a Dimona factory was taken to a hospital in serious condition after a heavy object fell on him, crushing his chest.Last week a construction worker fell to his death while working on a building on Kibbutz Ma’agan Michael. The same day, a worker was injured when he fell three stories at a Holon building site.

Ottawa scientists prepare for disruptive solar weather-[CBC]-May 8, 2016-YAHOONEWS

If the threats of climate change, a pandemic or nuclear war haven't given you enough to worry about, how about solar weather? Large-scale eruptions on the surface of the sun can create solar-particle waves that damage satellites and disrupt power grids — not to mention the GPS in your car.Scientists at the Canadian Space Weather Forecast Centre are now preparing for the next big event. At their command centre near the Mer Bleue Conservation Area in Ottawa, scientists are using an array of highly specialized instruments to test for geomagnetic activity.Heightened levels are an indicator of solar flares and their evil twin, Coronal Mass Ejections or CMEs.-CMEs cause extensive damage-CMEs are massive eruptions on the surface of the sun that send a tsunami of particles into the solar system — and can dramatically change the earth's magnetic field once they arrive here.Fortunately, a CME in 2012 missed earth but others have hit here with disastrous effects. The biggest CME on record to strike our planet came in August 1859, creating an aurora so bright you could read a newspaper by it at night across much of North America.Within minutes the event caused extensive damage to the telegraph system, the only large scale telecommunications network at the time. Now our dependence on electricity and satellite-based navigation systems make the world, and Canada much more vulnerable to CMEs.-Canada especially vulnerable-Canada would likely feel the impact of a large scale event more than any other country because of its proximity to the North Pole, scientists say."Space weather can impact a variety of technologies, satellites, GPS for navigation positioning and timing," said Natural Resources Canada scientist Robyn Fiori. "It could also impact compass use for directional drilling, aero-magnetic surveys and, of course, power systems and pipelines, as well."Power lines are especially vulnerable because they act as long conductors during geomagnetic storms, causing unexpected electric currents along the line.A solar storm in 1989, lasting only a minute and a half, caused the entire Hydro-Quebec power grid to collapse. The resulting blackout left more than six million people in Quebec and the northeastern United States without power for nine hours.-Some electronics not affected-If there's a saving grace, scientist say it's that a big solar storm is not expected to have any effect on the electronics in your home or on your phone. "It doesn't affect all electrical systems. Only the systems with the very long wires, such as in a power transmission network, are affected," said to Natural Resources Canada's David Boteler. "So electronics at home and the normal wiring systems, they are not affected."Scientists are working to mitigate the effects of space weather by building satellites with more robust protection against solar particles and trying to find ways to better predict CMEs.They also say the effects on most network systems of a large event will be relatively short-lived, since the solar storm should pass by earth in a day or two.

Landslide buries about 35 builders in southeast China-[The Canadian Press]-The Associated Press-May 8, 2016-YAHOONEWS

BEIJING, China - A landslide in southeast China on Sunday buried about 35 workers at the construction site of a hydropower project, and rescuers later pulled out five people alive, officials and state-run media reported.Rocks and mud with a volume of 100,000 cubic meters (3.5 million cubic feet) buried an office building and the workers' living area at the site in mountainous Taining county in Fujian province around 5 a.m. Sunday, according to a website run by the county's Communist Party's publicity department. An initial count suggested 35 people were missing, the report said.China's state broadcaster, CCTV, later reported that five workers were rescued alive, but said their conditions were unknown. An official at the department said by phone that the cause of the landslide was still unclear, but that the area had seen rainfall in the past few days.Heavy rain has affected much of southern China since Wednesday, triggering floods and landslides. The official Xinhua News Agency reported Saturday that rainstorms led to the evacuation of more than 1,000 people in Guangxi region, and collapsed a road that left one person dead and one missing. The Taining county official, who only gave his surname of Wei, said firefighters and police were attempting to reach the buried, who were working on a hydropower project.

13 members of Iran's elite force killed in Syria-[The Canadian Press]-Albert Aji And Nasser Karimi, The Associated Press-May 7, 2016-YAHOONEWS

DAMASCUS, Syria - More than a dozen members of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards were killed this week during an attack by militants in northern Syria in what shows Tehran's deep involvement in the Syrian civil war.Iran has been one of President Bashar Assad's strongest backers and has, along with Lebanon's Iran-backed militant Hezbollah group, sent fighters to battle on the government's side.Iran's semi-official Fars news agency quoted Hossein Ali Rezaei, a spokesman for the Revolutionary Guard in the northern province of Mazandaran, as saying that 13 members were killed and 21 were wounded.Rezaei did not say when or where the incident occurred but another semi-official news agency, Tasnim, quoted a Revolutionary Guard spokesman in the same area as saying that they were killed when a coalition of insurgents, including al-Qaida's branch in Syria known as the Nusra Front, seized the northern village of Khan Touman from pro-government forces.Khan Touman was captured Friday after two days of intense clashes that also left dozens of Syrian militants dead, according to opposition activists. The town was captured by a coalition known as Jaish al-Fatah, or Army of Conquest, an ultraconservative group led by the Nusra Front, and the jihadi militias Jund al-Aqsa and Ahrar al-Sham.The announcement in Tehran came as a senior Iranian official met with Assad in Damascus and vowed continued support for his government in the country's five-year-old civil war.Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was quoted by Syria's state news agency SANA as saying that Tehran will always stand by Syria because it "knows that terrorism does not target Syria but the whole people of the region."Iran and Russia have backed Syria throughout the conflict. All three refer to all those fighting to overthrow Assad as terrorists. Also Saturday, a fragile cease-fire in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo has been extended for 72 hours, Russia said, as the Islamic State group battled other militant factions near the city. The Russian Defence Ministry said the extension was made at Moscow's initiative and would also apply to the coastal province of Latakia. The cease-fire will now last until 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday (9:01 p.m. GMT Monday).Russia and the U.S. last week reached an agreement to extend Syria's cease-fire to Aleppo, which had seen days of heavy fighting that killed 286 civilians, including 57 children, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitoring group. The Syrian military had earlier said the cease-fire in Aleppo would last only 48 hours. The Russian military accused the Nusra Front of attempting to destroy the cease-fire by carrying out attacks on Aleppo and trying to impose a blockade on the city from the south. The Nusra Front and IS are not included in the cease-fire.The Observatory and the other groups said Aleppo was relatively quiet after the cease-fire was extended, but reported heavy fighting between IS and other militant groups in the northern parts of Aleppo province, near the border with Turkey. The Observatory, which relies on a network of activists inside Syria, said IS captured two villages in the region in clashes that killed least 12 extremists. The Local Coordination Committees, an activist-run collective, said the fighting is now concentrated near the northern villages of Dalha, Harjaleh and Hiwar Kilis.___Karimi reported from Tehran, Iran. Saudi Arabia says to maintain stable petroleum policies-Reuters – MAY 8,16-YAHOONEWS

ABU DHABI/KHOBAR (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia's new energy minister said on Sunday the world's largest crude exporter was committed to meeting demand for hydrocarbons from its customers and would maintain its petroleum policies."Saudi Arabia will maintain its stable petroleum policies. We remain committed to maintaining our role in international energy markets and strengthening our position as the world's most reliable supplier of energy," Khalid al-Falih said in an e-mailed statement."We are committed to meeting existing and additional hydrocarbons demand from our expanding global customer base, backed by our current maximum sustainable capacity."Since 2014, Saudi Arabia has led OPEC through a new survival-of-the-fittest strategy aimed at defending market share rather than reducing production to support oil prices.Falih's comments on Sunday support analysts' views that no shift in Saudi oil policy is likely as a result of his appointment.Falih's appointment was part of a bigger Saudi shake-up announced on Saturday as King Salman restructured some big ministries in a major reshuffle intended to support a wide-ranging economic reform program. As part of the restructuring, the Petroleum Ministry has been renamed the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources."The creation of a new Ministry in Saudi Arabia that brings together the Kingdom's abundant and unrivalled energy and mineral resources and industrial capabilities is in line with the ambitious objectives of Saudi Vision 2030," Falih said.(Reporting by Maha El Dahan and Reem Shamseddine; Editing by Richard Balmforth)

Pakistan to try 13 for killing, burning teenage girl-[The Canadian Press]-The Associated Press-May 7, 2016-YAHOONEWS

ISLAMABAD - Thirteen members of a Pakistani tribal council who allegedly strangled a girl to death and set her body on fire as punishment for helping one of her friends elope will face trial under anti-terrorism laws, police said Saturday. The body of 17-year-old Ambreen Riasat was found in a torched van near a tourist resort in northwestern Pakistan on April 29. Police say the tribal council ordered the killing, and that the girl was strangled to death before her body was placed in the van and set alight. Police officer Muhammad Tahir said the suspects have been detained by counterterrorism police.Nearly 1,000 women are killed every year in Pakistan in so-called honour killings in response to alleged romantic liaisons outside the bounds of arranged marriage. The killings are often carried out by close male relatives, but in this case, it appears the girl's father was not involved, and now wants the culprits punished.Tahir said area councillor Pervez Gul Zaman, one of the 13 detained suspects, endorsed the council's verdict and wanted to "make the girl an example" to deter others in the village from eloping. He said authorities are still awaiting the results of forensics testing, which would show whether the girl was drugged or poisoned, or subjected to any other "assault."The girl's father, Riyasat, rushed to the village from the southern port city of Karachi after hearing about the death of his daughter. He is demanding that her killers also be burned in public, according to Matloob Khan, another police officer.Tahir said Shamim, the mother of the slain girl, has been detained and is under investigation, adding that she did not appear concerned when her daughter went missing and had not enquired about the body found in the van.But Khan said the girl's father has argued for his wife's innocence. Both parents go by one name.Pakistan's main rights group, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, has strongly condemned the girl's killing."Nothing that the authorities do now can bring back the young victim, but they should at least now atone for their inaction by seeing to it that justice is done in this case and conditions that allow such incidents to take place are confronted," it said.

Turkey's Erdogan pours cold water on hopes of progress on EU deal-[Reuters]-May 7, 2016-YAHOONEWS

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday poured more cold water on hopes for progress with Europe on a deal to curb migration, suggesting Ankara would not change its anti-terrorism laws just to meet European Union requirements. The EU has asked member states to grant visa-free travel to Turks in return for Ankara stopping migrants from reaching Europe, but said Turkey still had to change some legislation, including bringing its terrorism laws in line with EU standards. The migrant deal between Brussels and Ankara was negotiated by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who this week announced his decision to step down as premier, capping weeks of public tension with Erdogan."Those who ask Turkey to change its laws on terror should first remove the terrorists' tents that were erected outside the EU parliament," Erdogan said in a speech to supporters in the eastern Anatolian city of Matalya. He was referring to Belgian authorities allowing supporters of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) to set up a protest site outside an EU-Turkey summit in March.Visa-free travel is for many Turks the biggest benefit of Ankara's deal with the EU. Europe, meanwhile, is counting on Turkey to maintain an agreement that has helped stem the flow of refugees and migrants via Turkish shores.Davutoglu's departure consolidates the power of Erdogan, who has been highly critical of the EU in the past and is seen in Brussels as a far tougher negotiating partner less closely wedded in recent years to Turkey's ambition of joining the EU.To win visa-free travel for its citizens, Turkey must still meet five of 72 criteria the EU imposes on all states exempt from visas, one of which is narrowing its legal definition of terrorism.Rights groups say Turkey has used broad anti-terrorism laws to silence dissent, including detaining journalists and academics critical of the government. But Ankara insists the laws are essential as it battles Kurdish militants at home and the threat from Islamic State in neighboring Syria and Iraq.Erdogan has frequently accused the West of not giving enough support to Turkey for sheltering more than 2.5 million refugees since the start of the Syrian civil war. He has also been infuriated by Western support for Syrian Kurdish militants in the fight against Islamic State.Turkey, a NATO member and part of the U.S.-led coalition against the militant Islamist group, regards the Washington-backed Syrian Kurdish fighters as an extension of the PKK, which has waged an armed struggle against the Turkish state that left more than 40,000 dead since 1984.(Reporting by David Dolan; Editing by Digby Lidstone)

Kim Jong Un says Pyongyang won't use nukes first-[The Canadian Press]-Eric Talmadge, The Associated Press-May 7, 2016-YAHOONEWS

PYONGYANG, North Korea - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said during a critical ruling party congress that his country will not use its nuclear weapons first unless its sovereignty is invaded, state media reported Sunday.Kim also said he is ready to improve ties with "hostile" nations in a diplomatic overture in the face of international pressure over its recent nuclear test and long-range rocket launch. He also called for more talks with rival South Korea to reduce misunderstanding and distrust between them and urged the United States to stay away from inter-Korean issues, according to the official Korean Central News Agency."Our republic is a responsible nuclear state that, as we made clear before, will not use nuclear weapons first unless aggressive hostile forces use nuclear weapons to invade on our sovereignty," Kim said in a speech carried by the KCNA.He said that North Korea "will sincerely fulfil its duties for the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and work to realize the denuclearization of the world."The North is ready to improve and normalize ties with countries hostile to it if they respect its sovereignty and approach it in a friendly manner, Kim said.At the congress, Kim also announced a five-year plan starting this year to develop the North's dismal economy and identified improving the country's power supply and increasing its agricultural and light-manufacturing production as the critical parts of the program, the KCNA said.Analysts have anticipated Kim would use the first Workers' Party congress in decades to propose talks with rivals to exploit what he considers to be increased leverage as a nuclear power.North Korea carried out its fourth nuclear test in January and followed with a satellite launch in February that was seen by outside governments as a banned test for long-range missile technology, earning worldwide condemnation and tougher U.N. sanctions. The North responded to the punitive measures, and also the annual U.S.-South Korean military drills in March and April, by firing a series of missiles and artillery into the sea. It also claimed advancements in developing nuclear weapons and long-range missiles, and combined them with threats of pre-emptive nuclear strikes on Washington and Seoul.Analysts said that the North's belligerent stance might have been intended at rallying North Korean people around Kim ahead of the congress and also promote military accomplishments to the domestic audience to make up for the lack of tangible economic achievements to present at the party meeting.South Korea has taken a hard-line approach to North Korea following its nuclear test and long-range rocket launch, shutting down a jointly-run factory park in a North Korean border town that had been the last remaining symbol of co-operation between the rivals and slapping Pyongyang with its own economic sanctions.Seoul has also been in talks with Washington on deploying a sophisticated U.S. missile defence system in South Korea.North Korea had spent the past months resisting talks with the South and threatening attacks against it, but Kim spoke with a different tone at the conference. He said "fundamentally improving" inter-Korean relations was an urgent matter for his government and also called for the South to "hold hands" with the North as a "companion" for unification, the KCNA said. However, Kim stressed that the South must first employ practical measures to improve ties and throw out laws and institutional systems that have hampered them. He also said that the United States should no longer be involved with matters in the Korean Peninsula, and that if enemy forces "ignite the fire of war," the North was ready to mercilessly punish the aggressors and accomplish the "historical feat" of unification.North Korea has long decried the 28,500 U.S. troops stationed in South Korea as a buffer against possible aggression.South Korea's Foreign Ministry said ahead of the North's ruling party congress in Pyongyang that the priority of any future talks with the North would be its denuclearization.___Associated Press writer Tong-hyung Kim in Seoul, South Korea, contributed to this report.

Donald Trump says NAFTA 'destroyed' U.S. at rally near Canadian border-[CBC]-May 7, 2016-YAHOONEWS

Donald Trump held a rally minutes away from B.C.'s border on Saturday where he touched on lumber and international trade. The presumptive Republican presidential nominee hosted a 3 p.m. PT rally in Lynden, Wash. — a city less than 15 minutes south of Aldergrove, B.C. Earlier in the day, at noon, he held another event in Spokane, Wash.During his 45 minute speech in Lynden, he meandered from topic to topic — from his love of his evangelical supporters to attacking Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton by calling her "crooked."He called NAFTA "one of the great economic disasters" that's "destroyed" the U.S., a message he first shared back in September 2015.Trump also spoke about international trade, specifically pertaining to lumber."You can't sell your timber ... they won't even take it and when they do take it, they charge you tax," he told the crowd of thousands without clarifying which country "they" are."When we take their product, come on in folks, come on in. We're not going to do it."On Saturday morning, during an interview with CBC Radio's The House, B.C. Premier Christy Clark chided Trump for his anti-trade talk, equating it to building a wall between the two countries. She wants Americans to take action on a softwood lumber deal before the end of summer.-Excitement and debate-Trumps's proximity to Canada stirred up excitement and debate. Many of his supporters lined up for hours to get into the Northwest Washington Fair and Event Center. Not surprisingly, a few of those were Canadians.Online, many were left wondering why the presidential candidate bypassed Seattle, Washington's largest city, and chose two much smaller centres instead — one of which is so near B.C.Some speculated whether it was a strategic decision that could lead to the consideration of a wall being built along the U.S.-Canada border, even though Trump stated back in 2015 it wasn't something he'd consider. However, Trump did reiterate his stance on building a wall between the U.S. and Mexico."We will build the wall, it will be a beautiful wall, it will be a big wall," he said to loud cheers in Lynden. "It will have a door in it because we want people to come into our country, but they have to come in legally."Not everyone was thrilled by the controversial Republican's visit though.Protesters were out in full force in Washington, and some British Columbians also took to social media to voice their distaste.

The Latest: Maine Democrats deliver rebuke to superdelegates-[The Canadian Press]-The Associated Press-May 7, 2016-YAHOONEWS

PORTLAND, Maine - The Latest on the Maine Democratic Convention (all times local):4 p.m.Maine Democrats have sent colleagues across the country a strong message that they are fed up with the party's system of superdelegates. At their state convention Saturday, they adopted a proposal to reduce the clout of unpledged elected officials and party insiders. The measure urges Maine's five superdelegates to vote in proportion to the results of state caucuses won by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in March. But it gets teeth four years from now — requiring the party chairman to account for superdelegates' preferences to ensure the delegation sent to the national convention reflects the outcome of the state party vote.During the debate, Brigham McNaughton, a rank-and-file Democrat from Freeport, received a rowdy ovation when he described a "rigged system" in which five superdelegates defy the will of the voters.___10:20 a.m.Maine Democrats are delivering a rebuke to the system of superdelegates at their state convention.Supporters of Bernie Sanders expressed frustration that many superdelegates representing the party leaders and elected officials favour former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and are not beholden to the outcome of the state caucuses won by the Vermont senator. The proposal adopted Saturday strongly encourages superdelegates to vote in proportion to caucus results. But it has teeth in 2020, requiring the party chair to account for superdelegates' preferences to ensure the overall delegate makeup matches the outcome of the caucus or primary.State Rep. Diane Russell said her proposal allows the state party to work around national rules giving superdelegates autonomy to ensure state delegations to the national convention follow the will of rank-and-file voters.___10 a.m.Maine Democrats are debating a proposal to deliver a rebuke to the system of so-called superdelegates.Democrat Brigham McNaughton of Freeport received a rowdy ovation when he described a "rigged system" in which five superdelegates defy the will of rank-and-file Democrats in Maine. Prince's estate: Potential legal red tape highlights importance of a will-[CBC]-May 8, 2016-YAHOONEWS

With a will yet to surface, Prince's family faces a potentially long, costly and complex legal process to divvy up his assets, illustrating the importance of writing a will, even for those not leaving behind a multi-million dollar estate. His siblings have already begun the court proceedings. A Minnesota judge appointed a corporate trust company to temporarily oversee his estate last week, saying the emergency appointment was necessary because the superstar musician doesn't appear to have a will and immediate decisions must be made about his business interests. But problems may already be emerging among his heirs, which would further complicate the process. CNN reported that the initial meeting between the siblings was contentious and ended in shouting. "Especially for a man surrounded by so many lawyers and managers, etc., it's astonishing that he didn't have a will," said Judith T Younger, a professor of family law at the University of Minnesota who teaches a course in property, wills and trusts. With no spouse or children, Minnesota law states that his estate will be distributed equally among his siblings and half-siblings. But that could become complicated if they fail to agree on how certain assets should be treated and/or sold. For example, the siblings will have to come up with a valuation of Prince's vault of unpublished music and agree on what should be done with it."There is still the problem — are any of these siblings experts in managing assets of this sort that he has." said Younger.Another issue, says Younger, is that Minnesota doesn't have statutes that would deal directly with the inheritability of Prince's persona — the right to commercially exploit his image through items like T-shirts and mugs.-'Always been very careful about his properties'-"The question becomes do they get included in his estate? Had he had a will, he could have set up an arrangement with people who knew what they were doing to manage it or license it. Or perhaps he would not have wanted any postmortem publicity.""He has always been very careful about his properties, his music his unpublished intellectual property," she said. "The best way to ensure that people you trust are managing and controlling it after your death is to have a will designation."It's possible that Prince cared little how his estate was to be settled after his death. But as Charles Wagner, Toronto estate lawyer, pointed out, was "there no one who he's loved in his life? Is there no one who had a special place? Is there anything he wanted to perpetuate his legacy?"Even for those without an estate like Prince's, getting a will is a prudent move, said Wagner.-Risk litigation-"If you want to ensure that your assets go to the people you want them to, your best bet is to go to a lawyer who knows what they're doing ...and get a good will," Wagner said. "Otherwise you risk litigation, otherwise you risk the money going to people you don't want."Joseph Gyverson, a Toronto estate lawyer, said it's a fairly common misconception that if someone dies without leaving  a will, their estate goes to the government. That can happen if the deceased has no living heirs — otherwise legislation sets out a hierarchy as to who is entitled to inherit the estate. The general rule in North America, he said, is that the spouse will inherit everything followed by children, parents, siblings, aunts and uncles and then other next of kin.Without a will, family members of the deceased will most certainly end up in court, Gyverson said.  And if there is any disagreement between potential beneficiaries about who should get what, the estate could be tied up in court for a long time, costing a large amount in legal fees that could eat up much of what they were entitled to receive in the first place.-Choosing the executor-There's also the issue of choosing the state trustee, or executor of the estate, when there is no will to say who will fill that powerful role. The trustee or executor can deal with the assets according to their discretion. Without a will, a number of people could go to court to apply for that position."And that's where you could get an issue with something like the Prince estate where you've got multiple beneficiaries, all of whom have the right to a say as to who is going to be chosen to be the executor."And if there are conflicting interests, they may not agree who will be the executor. Then there can be a battle over who is going to be the executor, who is going to be in control of the state. And the more complex the estate is, the more valuable the assets are in the estate, the more there is that potential to be that conflict."People don't need to get a will for themselves, Gyverson said, but so the people they care about are taken care of and they're making things easier for their friends and family when they die."Because when someone is in the process of grieving over lost loved ones, they don't want to have the additional hassle of not even having a will to help them deal with the property," he said.

UPDATE-MAY 08,2016-04:43PM
THE ORIGINAL RCMP THAT HAD BEEN IN FORT MCMURRAY HAVE NOW ALL BEEN REPLACED BY RCMP AND OTHER POLICE OFFICERS FROM OTHER PROVINCES IN CANADA. SO THE ORIGINAL OFFICERS GET A BREAK. GOODALE SAID THE FIRST RESPONDERS ARE DOING A GREAT JOB PROTECTING PEOPLES PROPERTY AND ALL THE OTHER JOBS THEIR DOING PROTECTING AND GUIDING THE PEOPLE OF FORT MCMURRAY WHO HAD TO EVACUATE. LARIVEE ALSO THANKED THE FIRST RESPONDERS FOR THEIR HARD WORK IN PROTECTING FORT MCMURRAY.  THE REFUGEE-EVACUEE CHILDREN WILL BE ABLE TO GO TO SCHOOLS STARTING TOMORROW-LARIVEE SAID. JUST GO TO THE SCHOOL NEAREST YOU-REGISTER AT IT. AND YOU WILL GLADLY BE WELCOMED THERE. AND LARIVEE TOLD US THE NEW TOTAL OF PEOPLE REGISTERING TO THE RED CROSS. THE NEW TOTAL IS 42,000 SIGNEES. ALMOST HALF OF ALL THE EVACUEES NOW. NOTLEY WILL BE GOING TO FORT MCMURRAY TOMORROW MONDAY TO SURVEY THE DAMAGE. AND SHE ALSO WARNED. THE PICTURES THAT WILL BE COMING OUT-WILL BE HARD TO WATCH. GOODALE ALSO STATED-THIS WILL BE A LONG PROCESS. SO BE PATIENT WITH US PLEASE. AND WE WILL DO ALL WE CAN TO SUPPORT EVERYBODY. THE FIRE IS MOVING EAST TOWARD SASKATCHEWAN. ABOUT 30-40 KILOMETERS AS NOTLEY TOLD US EARLIAR IN HER NEWS CONFERENCE.

UPDATE-MAY 08,2016-03:43PM
ALL 25,000 HAVE BEEN EVACUATED FROM THE OIL SANDS REFUGEE CAMPS. 2 PEOPLE DIED AS A RESULT OF A CAR ACCIDENT FROM THE WILD FIRE. 161,000 HECTARES HAVE NOW BURNED. THANK GOODNESS ITS NOT GROWING AS FAST AS EXPECTED. ONLY 5,000 HECTARES ARE BURNED SINCE YESTERDAY. AND OFFICIALS WERE EXPECTING AT LEAST 40,000 MORE HECTARES TO BE BURNED. SO THE FIRE FIGHTERS AND WEATHER HELPED TO STOP THE WILD FIRE FROM DESTROYING LOTS OF PROPERTY. THE FIRE IS ABOUT 30-40 KILOMETERS FROM THE ALBERTA-SASKATCHEWAN BORDER NOW. 36,381 CITIZENS OF THE 88,000 FROM FORT MCMURRAY HAS REGISTERED ON THE RED CROSS SITE. BUT THERE S STILL AT LEAST 50,000 CITIZENS TO SIGN UP YET. AND THE RCMP AND THE SPCA ARE FEEDING ANIMALS LEFT BEHIND BY THE PEOPLE OF FORT MCMURRAY WHEN THEY HAD TO EVACUATE QUICK FROM THEIR HOMES. 34 WILD FIRES ARE BURNING CANADA WIDE YET. ONLY 3 ARE OUT OF CONTROL INCLUDING THIS FORT MCMURRAY FIRE. AND 6 FIRES WERE PUT OUT TOTALLY SINCE I LAST HEARD THERE WAS 40 CANADA WIDE WILD FIRES. SOME HOTELS IN THE FORT MCMURRAY AREA ARE OPENED UP SO THE FIRE FIGHTERS HAVE A PLACE TO STAY WHILE THEY FIGHT THE FIRE. THE INVESTIGATION OF HOW THIS FIRE WAS STARTED IS NOT DETERMINED YET. BUT MORRISON SAID THAT MOST LIKELY IT WAS HUMAN STARTED OR A LIGHTENING STRIKE. BUT BY THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK MORRISON SAID. THEY SHOULD KNOW HOW THE FIRE WAS STARTED AND THE CAUSE OF IT. OVER THE NEXT 3 OR 4 DAYS THE FIRE FIGHTERS HOPE TO DOSE THE MAIN FORT MCMURRAY ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURES. AND THEN LATER ON GET TO THE WOODLANDS TO CONTAIN THEM. AS IT WILL TAKE WEEKS TO GET THE WOODLANDS FIRE OUT. THE FIRE FIGHTER ARE PROTECTING THE HOSPITALS-AND SEWAGE FACILITIES AND ENERGY FACILITIES. SO THEY ARE SAVED FROM THE FIRE AT LEAST. THE FIRE IS NOT THREATENING ANY ENERGY FACILITIES TO THE NORTH. BUT TO THE SOUTH-THEY ARE NOT GUARENTEED SO FAR. A REPORTER HEARD THAT KIDS ARE COMITTING ARSON IN OTHER PLACES IN FORT MCMURRAY. OTHER THEN THE WILD FIRE. THE FIRE OFFICIAL AND HOTLEY SAID TO GET IN CONTACT WITH THE POLICE ABOUT THAT. THEY WERE NOT SURE IF IT WAS GOING ON BY KIDS. NO NEW NUMBERS ABOUT LOST HOUSES AND PROPERTY DUE TO THE WILD FIRE. AS NOTLEY SAID THAT THE EXPERTS WILL BE UPDATING US IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS OR SO. MORRISON SAID THANKS TO THE FIRE FIGHTERS AND THE WEATHER-THAT THE FIRE IS NOT AS BAD AS EXPECTED FROM YESTERDAYS PREDICTIONS.

UPDATE-MAY 08,2016-01:34PM
600 PEOPLE ARE IN GROUP LODGING IN EDMONTON FROM THE 2,200 THAT CONVOYED OUT OF FORT MCMURRAY YESTERDAY. SASKATCHEWAN HAS PUT A NO FIRE BAN IN PLACE AS THEY GET READY TO DEAL WITH THE FIRE FROM ALBERTA. HEAVY SMOKE AND EMBERS ARE STARTING TO FLY ON SOME AREAS OF SASKATCHEWAN-ALBERTA BORDER  ALREADY. SEVERAL OIL PRODUCERS ARE SHUTTING DOWN IN ALBERTA. AND ABOUT 1 MILLION BARRELS A DAY OF OIL HAS BEEN LOST AS A RESULT OF THE SHUTDOWNS AND PIPE LINE TROUBLES. SO THIS MEANS ONLY ABOUT 2.5 MILLION BARRELS A DAY ARE GOING FROM ALBERTA AT THIS TIME. UNTIL THIS FIRE GETS UNDER CONTROL. AND THE OIL PRODUCERS CAN GET BACK TO FULL OIL OUTPUT CAPACITY.  FORT MCMURRAY IS REPORTING VERY LIGHT RAIN AT THIS TIME. BUT HEAVY WINDS. THE MOTHERS AT SOME EVACUATION CAMPS ARE GIVEN FLOWERS ON THIS MOTHERS DAY. TO CHEER THEM UP A BIT. AND 2 PRESS CONFERENCES WILL BE HELD BY NOTLEY AT 2:30PM EST. AND GOODALE AT 4PM EST. FOR UPDATES ON THE WILD FIRE.

UPDATE-MAY 08,2016-09:07AM
EDMONTON HAS 9,500 EVACUEES FROM FORT MCMURRAY CONVOY. THERE IS 12 EVACUEE CENTERS IN ALBERTA. THERE ALL OPENED 12 HOURS A DAY. THE NEXT BIG RAINFALL IS NOT EXPECTED UNTIL NEXT SUNDAY-A WEEK AWAY YET. AND THIS IS THE EARLIST FIRE SEASON EVER IN ALBERTA. THE LATEST I HEARD WAS 40 WILD FIRES ARE RAGING CANADA WIDE. 7 OF WHICH ARE STILL OUT OF CONTROL-INCLUDING THIS FORT MCMURRAY ALBERTA WILD FIRE. AT A FIRST NATIONS GAS BAR IN THE FORT MCMURRAY AREA. THE OWNERS ARE GIVING FREE GAS TO EVACUEES-TO DO THEIR PART IN HELPING OUT. AND ON OTHER INDIAN RESERVES IN THE FORT MCMURRAY AREA-INADIANS ARE DONATING TO THE RED CROSS TO HELP OUT THE EVACUEES.

UPDATE-MAY 08,2016-07:37AM
2,400 CONVOY VEHICLES WERE ESCORTED BY THE RCMP AND THE ARMY YESTERDAY-THREW FORT MCMURRAY ON THEIR WAY TO EDMONTON OR CALGARY. THERE HAS NOW BEEN 200,000 HECTARES BURNED BY THIS WILD FIRE. AND NOW THE FIRE IS ON THE BORDER OF SASKATCHEWAN. AND NEAR THE OIL WELLS. SOME AREAS OF FORT MCMURRAY ARE IN GOOD CONDITION. BUT THEN OTHER AREAS ARE TOTALLY BURNED OUT. THE BURNED OUT AREAS ARE MOSTLY PROPERTIES WERE THE TREES WENT RIGHT UP TO THEIR BACK YARDS. SMOKE FROM FORT MCMURRAY ARE AFFECTING PEOPLE IN MONTANA USA. THE WILDFIRE IS NOW BIGGER THAN LOS ANGELES. AND THE WEATHER IS STILL HOT AND DRY. SO THE UN CONTROLABLE FIRE WILL STILL RAGE TODAY. THEN COOLER AIR MAY START COMING INTO ALBERTA TOMORROW.  AND POSSIBLY RAIN MAY COME IN BY TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY. 34,000 ALBERTANS HAVE SIGNED UP TO THE RED CROSS FOR FINANCIAL AID SO FAR. AND THE MUSLIM AND INDIAN COMMUNITIES IN THE AREA ARE BEING LOOKED AFTER ALSO. THIS IS DAY 8 OF THE WILDFIRE IN FORT MCMURRAY ALBERTA. THE AIR QUALITY WEST OF EDMONTON AND THE WEST OF ALBERTA IS BAD. SO PEOPLE WITH BREATHING PROBLEMS STAY INSIDE YOUR HOMES.

CANADIANS HAVE DONATED 46 MILLION DOLLARS TO THE RED CROSS TOWARD THE ALBERTA WILD FIRE FUND SO FAR.

Alberta working on temporary housing for Fort McMurray evacuees-[Canadian Press Videos]-May 7, 2016-YAHOONEWS

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley says officials are working on finding transitional housing for Fort McMurray residents displaced by a massive wildfire. Notley is encouraging people in need of housing to register with the Red Cross.

Officials say it could take months to extinguish massive Alberta blaze-[The Canadian Press]-John Cotter, The Canadian Press-May 7, 2016-YAHOONEWS

FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. - Fire officials are bracing themselves for a long, long fight against the blaze that forced the evacuation of Fort McMurray and has eaten up more than 1,500 square kilometres of northern Alberta forest."Unless we have a significant rain event of 100 millimetres of rain, we expect to be out fighting the fire in the forested area for months to come," Chad Morrison with Alberta Wildfires told a media briefing Saturday afternoon."That's not uncommon with such large fires."As for the city of Fort McMurray, he said he expected they would get a good handle on the situation "over the next coming month or two."There still is no timeline for any of the 80,000 evacuated residents to be allowed back into their homes, but the Alberta government has begun preliminary planning, though it stresses fighting the fire is still the first priority.Premier Rachel Notley said officials expected the fire to possibly double in size on Saturday and reach the boundary with Saskatchewan to the east. The good news was that the fire was burning away from communities. Firefighters continued working to protect the downtown and homes in Fort McMurray and held the line for a second straight day, Notley said. She added the gas supply has been turned off in the city and the power grid has been damaged. Water in the city isn't drinkable and hazardous material will have to be cleaned up to make the community safe."The return won't be in coming days," said the premier. "Once the immediate fire damage is completed there will be an enormous amount of work to do to make the city safe and habitable."RCMP Insp. Kevin Kunetzki said Saturday that during their checks of houses in the city, officers are seeing significant signs of water and smoke damage.Scott Long of the Alberta Emergency Management Agency said that may have been one of the costs of protecting the community. He said firefighters use large, industrial sprinklers to "spray continuous amounts of water on houses to protect them from embers, sparks, etc., from spontaneous combustion, from the heat. So it's quite possible there could be water damage."On top of that, a few days ago water bombers were dropping their loads on some of the houses in the highest-risk neighbourhoods."So a little bit of water damage in the basement is acceptable at this point," Long said.Non-essential personnel at both Syncrude and Suncor oil facilities in the area have been evacuated as a precaution."We do expect the fire to bump again the edge of the south end of the Suncor facility today," said Morrison, but he added the companies' highly trained industrial fire department would remain to protect the facilities."These sites are very resilient to wildfires, largely because they're free and clear of vegetation and trees."Noralta Lodge, an oilsands housing facility where RCMP and firefighters have been staying, was placed on a two-hour evacuation notice."They have a solid evacuation plan in place," said Morrison. "If they're under any kind of a threat there will be a safe, controlled evacuation."Federal Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said firefighters from other provinces were being brought in to relieve those who have been battling what he calls "this beast of a fire" for a week.Eighty firefighters from Ontario have already arrived. Goodale told a news conference in Regina that another 44 are on their way from Quebec and 22 from New Brunswick. Equipment, such as pumps, hoses and tankers, are also coming from other provinces."What we're trying to do, with the co-operation of other provinces and territories, is bring in rotations of other firefighters that can give them a break."

Alberta flies drones to find cause of epic Canadian wildfire-[Reuters]-By Rod Nickel-Reuters-May 7, 2016-YAHOONEWS

LAC LA BICHE, Alberta (Reuters) - Fire-ravaged Alberta will use drones to investigate the cause of a huge blaze that has scorched the Canadian province and displaced some 88,000 people.Elevated Robotic Services, which has also deployed drones for mining and construction companies, has contracts with the Alberta government and insurance broker Hub International Ltd [HBINT.UL], said Mat Matthews, the Edmonton company's operations and safety manager. The drones use cameras outfitted with infrared, ultraviolet and traditional optical cameras to pinpoint the hottest part of the fire and trace it to its source based on time, wind and other factors. The cameras will shoot about 800 images, which are then stitched together in a process called fire-mapping."It's like Google Maps but 100 times better," Matthews said at a police roadblock south of Fort McMurray, Alberta, as smoke from the 156,000-hectare (385,000-acre) fire blackened the sky.The work begins on Tuesday, coordinated with the other air traffic, including air tankers and helicopters. An Alberta government official confirmed it had a contract with Elevated. Hub was not immediately available for comment. The images, if successful, will zero down to a spot on the ground with about a 30-foot (9-meter) radius where the fire is believed to have started. From there, investigators will search on foot for the cause, such as a lightning strike or campfire. The drones that Elevated will use are manufactured by China's DJI and sell for $1,900 to $6,500. They are roughly 1 foot wide by 2 feet across, about the same size as those hobbyists use.Using the more traditional method of gathering images from helicopters, the fire's cause could be narrowed only to half an acre, a much larger area to search on the ground, said Ron Windmueller, owner of Droneology, which supplies equipment and other services to Elevated.Downward wind from helicopter blades can disturb the scene, forcing the pilot to stay about 1,000 feet in the air. A drone can capture images from 100 feet.Even so, drones pose challenges. Because their batteries last only 45 minutes, they will have to land for fresh ones several times for a fire this big, making it more difficult to precisely shoot different parts of the area, Windmueller said.Still, the flying technology could help get answers quickly."If anything," Matthews said, "(the drones) will allow them to determine a cause much faster."(Additional reporting by Matt Scuffham in Toronto; Editing by Lisa Von Ahn)
