“I rejoiced when they said unto me: ‘Let us go unto the house of the LORD.’” (Psalm 122:1)--A new bill has been submitted to the Israeli Knesset demanding that Jews be given the freedom to pray on the Temple Mount, effectively changing the current status quo.If passed, the bill, proposed by MK Bezalal Smotrich (Jewish Home), would hold that Israel’s guarantee of freedom of religion must include access and ability to worship at every holy site in the country. The law would apply not just to Jews but to people of all religions, and would, of course, include the most highly contested holy site in the country – the Temple Mount.As the law stands today, the right to freedom of religion in Israel is hampered by a “lacuna”, a situation in which a specific law or provision is lacking, which “does not protect, specifically, freedom of worship and freedom of access.”The bill proposes to add a clause to the existing law “protecting the holy places, [allowing] freedom of worship for all religions with free and fixed access, so that this fundamental right will be defined by law and will result in freedom of worship anywhere and to anyone.”An explanatory note accompanying the bill stated that “freedom of worship and freedom of access of all religions to the holy places is a basic right in a democracy” and pointed out that there have been multiple cases brought before the Supreme Court in which the right to freedom of worship has been upheld.Five other members of Knesset have signed the bill: MK Shuli Muallem-Refaeli (Jewish Home), MK Nissan Slomiansky (Jewish Home), MK Mickey Zohar (Likud), MK Avraham Nasoga (Likud), and MK Oren Hazan (Likud).Should Jews be allowed to pray on the Temple Mount? “Woe is to me for I have sojourned in Meshech; I dwelt among the tents of Kedar. For a long time, my soul dwelt with those who hate peace. I am peace, but when I speak, they are for war.” (Psalms 120:5-7)--A recent survey of Christian Evangelicals has them echoing Jewish prophecies, associating trouble in Israel and the rest of the Middle East with End Times.Brookings Institute, a Washington DC-based think tank, recently released the results of their survey entitled American Attitudes Toward the Middle East and Israel. Among the more noteworthy results of their survey are two findings related to Evangelical Christian beliefs about Israel and the End of Days.A staggering 73 percent of Evangelical respondents say that world events would turn against Israel the closer we get to End Times. In addition, 79 percent of Evangelicals believe that the unfolding violence across the Middle East is a sign that the End Times are near. These two findings are consistent with beliefs based in Biblical prophecy and rabbinic teachings.In the Biblical Books of the Prophets, there are two scenarios regarding the War of Gog and Magog and the End of Days, one from Ezekiel and one from Zechariah.In his book The Ishmaelite Exile, Rabbi Yechiel Weitzman confirms that Ezekiel’s prophecy is the more pleasant of the two. Weitzman explains that Ezekiel prophesied that the war of Gog and Magog will be fought outside of Israel. “According to the prophecy of Yechezkel (Ezekiel), the Jewish nation will not be involved at all in the war of Gog, for it will take place only in the mountains of the north,” he writes.-The end is near. Literally, Kedar was a son of Yishmael.“And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael by their names, according to their births: the firstborn of Ishmael was Nebaioth, and Kedar and Adbe’el and Mibsam.” (Genesis 25:13)-Much later, troubling times for Israel at the End of Days was predicted by Rabbi Israel Meir HaKohen Kagan, born in 1839 and popularly known as the Chofetz Chaim. The Chofetz Chaim passed away in 1933, before Word War II, the establishment of the State of Israel and the ascendancy of Islamic terrorism. Nevertheless, he described the time before the arrival of the Messiah as one in which the Jewish people will endure difficulties that will occur in incredibly quick succession.According to a translation by Weitzman, the Chofetz Chaim stated: “Before the coming of Moshiach (Messiah), Hashem (God) will act in a hurried manner so wondrous that even all who are wise of heart will be unable to fathom it. The troubles and persecutions [of the Jewish people] will follow each other so closely that there will be no space between them. Just as for an expectant woman who is about to give birth, the closer she comes to the moment of birth, the more intense her contractions and her pain, and this is the most reliable indication that the birth is nearing, so too, the wheels of the era will turn faster at the time of the birth pangs of Moshiach.”There are those, like the prophet Ezekiel, who believe that it is still possible for God to bring the redemption with pleasantness and mercy. At the same time, like the Evangelical Christians surveyed by the Brookings Institute, the prophecies of Zechariah, King David and the Chofetz Chaim warn of a darker scenario.Rabbi Pinchas Winston, international lecture, prolific author and End of Days expert, explained to Breaking Israel News that history certainly seems to be playing out a less merciful end game.“End-of-Days scenarios have been around since the beginning of days. To many, Doomsday Sayers have seemed out of touch with reality. However, with the direction history seems to be going, and quite involuntarily, it seems more like reality is getting in touch with the Doomsdayers,” he said.“Even mainstream media has begun mentioning the unmentionable: World War III, and all of a sudden the End-of-Days scenarios are becoming common culture for all peoples.”

Israeli missile defense director dismissed over security breach-[Reuters]-December 27, 2015- YAHOONEWS

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel's missile defense director has been dismissed for a "grave breach of information security", his ministry said on Sunday, a setback for U.S.-backed projects the country deems crucial for any future war with Iran or its allies.In a statement, the Defence Ministry said the recently discovered security breach meant that Yair Ramati could not continue in the role. It did not elaborate on the offense, saying "relevant authorities" would be handling the case.Three people familiar with Ramati told Reuters on condition of anonymity that he had improperly handled classified documents but was not accused of criminal misconduct such as espionage.The Defence Ministry statement praised Ramati for his achievements during four years in office, crowned this month by a successful trial shoot-down in space by the Arrow 3 ballistic missile shield and final field test of David's Sling, a rocket interceptor slated for deployment in Israel next year.The ministry wished him "great success for the future".Under Ramati's watch, Israel also deployed its short-range interceptor Iron Dome, which according to Israeli and U.S. officials has had a 90 percent success rate in shooting down Palestinian guerrilla rockets from the Gaza Strip.Israel invested in missile defense after its 2006 war in Lebanon, during which Hezbollah guerrillas rained rockets on its homefront. BEIRUT (Reuters) - The leader of Lebanon's Hezbollah group said on Sunday that Israel miscalculated by killing prominent militant Samir Qantar in Syria last week, saying that retaliation for his death was inevitable, whatever the consequences.Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, speaking in a ceremony to mark a week since Qantar's death in a strike in a residential quarter of Damascus, said Israelis should brace themselves for a response either inside or outside Israel."The Israelis should be justifiably worried... They should be worried along the border, inside (Israel) and outside," he said."The response is coming no matter what ... We cannot forgive the shedding of our mujahideen blood by the Zionists ... anywhere in the world," he said. Israel has welcomed Qantar's death, but has not confirmed it carried out the air strike that killed him.Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon said on Saturday Israel took seriously a possible retaliation for Qantar's killing and accused Iran, Hezbollah's backer, of trying to open "a terrorist front on the Golan Heights".Yaalon said Hezbollah should be mindful of the 2006 Lebanon war, when Israel responded to a spate of cross-border attacks by the militant group with a large-scale ground, air and sea offensive.Qantar was jailed in Israel for his part in a 1979 raid in Israel that killed four people when he was a member of a Palestinian militant group. (Reuters) - More than 400 California firefighters were battling on Sunday to contain a final stretch of wildfire that had caused the partial closure of a major highway and forced evacuations northwest of Los Angeles, officials said.The fire charred more than 1,200 acres between the coastal cities of Ventura and Carpentaria. Firefighters had dug containment lines around 70 percent of the blaze by early morning, Ventura County Fire Department spokesman Mike Lind Berry said."We have a handle on it but that handle can be very fragile if certain events occur," Berry said.The main concerns facing firefighters were winds or wild embers starting flare-ups outside of the containment line.At least one flare-up occurred on steep terrain overnight. Fire fighters would work to monitor the blaze, expected to be less than an acre in size, through the day.The fire started on Friday night near Ventura County, about 65 miles (105 km) northwest of Los Angeles, when high winds knocked down power lines in a dry hilly area. The fire grew rapidly from there, consuming about 250 acres an hour in its early stage, Berry said.The flames triggered the closure of parts of U.S. Highway 101, though both northbound and southbound lanes of the major roadway had reopened to traffic by late afternoon on Saturday.The Solimar Beach community, with 50 to 60 homes, and a nearby campsite were under a mandatory evacuation order, while a voluntary one had been issued for the Faria Beach community, where there are 30 to 40 homes, fire officials said. KABUL (Reuters) - The powerful head of Pakistan's army, General Raheel Sharif, met Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday, the latest in a series of encounters between officials to prepare the way for new peace talks with the Taliban.Officials and politicians from Pakistan, Afghanistan and India have met in recent months in what are seen as cautious moves towards easing long-standing tensions between Islamabad, New Delhi and Kabul.Ghani's office said the talks on Sunday had focused on security, joint efforts to tackle terrorism and the resumption of peace talks with moderate elements of the Taliban after nearly 15 years of war."Both sides have agreed to continue the peace process with groups of Taliban that are ready for negotiation and reconciliation and to act against those groups that resort to terrorist actions and violence," his office said in a statement.The two sides agreed to coordinate counter-terrorism operations and work to prevent the mountainous frontier regions of their respective territories, where government authority is weak, being used as a base for cross-border insurgents.Sharif's visit to Kabul followed two meetings between Ghani and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in recent weeks that set the stage for efforts to restart Pakistan-brokered peace talks with the Taliban.Officials have said talks could begin as soon as next month. DALLAS (AP) — Tornadoes swept through the Dallas area after dark on Saturday leaving substantial damage and at least seven people dead either from the storm or related traffic accidents, in the latest of a succession of freakish winter weather events across the country.The Texas tornadoes followed days of tumultuous weather in the Southeast including unusual winter tornadoes that left 18 people dead there over the Christmas holiday period.National Weather Service Meteorologist Anthony Bain in Fort Worth said several tornadoes touched down in the Dallas area, although the full extent of damage would not be known until daylight Sunday.The storms left homes had roofs blown away, vehicles mangled or turned upside down, churches damaged, power lines down, natural gas lines burst, trees toppled and debris strewn across neighborhoods. The damage stretched over about a 40-mile-long area from 20 miles south of Dallas to northeast of the city.Joe Harn, police spokesman for Garland, about 20 miles northeast of Dallas, said four people were killed in vehicle accidents during the massive storm, but it's unclear if all four were in the same vehicle or how they died.Three other people died in Collin County, about 45 miles northeast of Dallas, according to sheriff's deputy Chris Havey, although the circumstances were not immediately clear.In the town of Rowlett near Garland, police spokesman Det. Many are poor families living in precarious housing along the banks of the River Paraguay.The Paraguayan government has declared a state of emergency in Asuncion and seven regions of the country to free up funds to help those affected. Several people have been killed by trees falling in the storms that caused the flooding, local media reported. There was no official death toll yet.In Alberdi, some 120 kilometers (75 miles) south of Asuncion, the government recommended that several thousand more people living along the banks of the River Paraguay evacuate."(The flooding) was directly influenced by the El Niño phenomenon which has intensified the frequency and intensity of rains," the national Emergencies Office said.This year's "El Nino," which sparks global climate extremes, is the worst in more than 15 years, the U.N. weather agency, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), said last month."Severe droughts and devastating flooding being experienced throughout the tropics and sub-tropical zones bear the hallmarks of this El Nino, which is the strongest in more than 15 years," WMO chief Michel Jarraud said in a statement.
