SURABAYA, 2ND FEBRUARY 2015 – AirAsia Indonesia wishes to update on the latest developments on the search and rescue (SAR) operations of QZ 8501 led by the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) Republic of Indonesia.The SAR operation in the primary focus area around Karimata Strait and Java Sea is still underway. SAR vessels and sea divers were deployed in order to locate more passengers and plane debris around the area.Earlier today, BASARNAS confirmed to have recovered a total of seven additional remains that are suspected to be that of QZ 8501 passengers; remains of one of the passengers were recovered yesterday (01/02) and the remaining six today. The remains were found on the Java Sea floor near the area where the fuselage wreckage was located. The seven remains are currently on their way to Pangkalan Bun, Central Borneo and will be flown to Surabaya for identification purposes. Meanwhile, SAR operation in Makassar Strait continued with SAR vessels, sea riders, and inflatable boats being mobilized to observe the vicinity of Mamuju, West Sulawesi and Selayar Island, South Sulawesi. However, no additional recoveries were reported from Makassar Strait today.The Disaster Victim Identification Police Department Republic of Indonesia (DVI POLRI) announced that there is no identification release today. DVI POLRI team is currently gathering additional DNA data towards the remaining passengers who are currently being identified at Bhayangkara Hospital, Surabaya. Earlier this morning, DVI POLRI also received additional remains that were recovered yesterday (01/02) in Majene, West Sulawesi at Bhayangkara Hospital, Surabaya.To date, BASARNAS has confirmed to have recovered a total of 84 remains of which 64 remains have been identified by DVI POLRI, 13 remains are still being identified and 7 remains have yet to arrive at Bhayangkara Hospital, Surabaya.AirAsia Indonesia would like to take this opportunity to urge the public seeking progress on the search and evacuation and identification process of QZ 8501 passengers to refer solely to official information from BASARNAS and DVI POLRI. Experts hoped the latest remains could help with the identification of the final three, Dutch news reports said.Winter conditions meant the team will not search the area and the remains are to be flown back to the Netherlands on Saturday, Visser said.Their job has also been complicated by heavy fighting in the nearby key Ukranian town of Debaltseve, in the escalating conflict that has left at least 5,100 people dead since April.Visser said the Dutch team "is not armed as they aren't part of the conflict".Kiev and the West have claimed that the airliner was shot down in the conflict-torn area by separatist fighters using a BUK surface-to-air missile supplied by Russia. JAKARTA: Indonesian divers on Monday (Feb 2) found another six victims of the AirAsia plane crash, an official said, taking to 84 the number of bodies retrieved since the accident in late December.Two bodies were found inside the fuselage of the plane, while another four were located near the wreckage on the bottom of the Java Sea. Another body was located on Sunday as the national search and rescue agency resumed operations. Divers had taken a two-day break after searching at sea for weeks in poor weather conditions.The mission is continuing to find the bodies of the remaining 78 people aboard Flight QZ8501, which went down in stormy weather during what was supposed to be a short trip from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore."Divers will continue to search for more bodies tomorrow," S.B. He was arrested and taken to the Hevron police station for questioning.Several hours later, another Arab youth was arrested at another nearby checkpoint, also after arousing suspicion due to his behavior. He was found carrying a knife in his backpack. Police arrested him as well.The two arrests were just the latest in a long line of similar detentions by police of Arabs in the Machpelah Cave area who were found to be be carrying knives. At least three similar incidents occurred just in the Machpelah Cave area in the past month, IDF officials said.According to a local IDF commander, the arrests are just “a small example of the great successes that we have had in the Machpelah Cave area. It is impossible to know what the detainees were planning when they arrived in the area of the sensitive area of the Cave with knives. We must remain ready at all times.”

2,500-year-old Jewish tablets discovered in Iraq-January 31, 2015, 7:06 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

As we watch horrific images of beheadings from the country formerly called Iraq – a country that is disintegrating into various tribal fiefdoms before our eyes – it is easy to forget that it was once the cradle of civilization. In point of fact, Arabs are latecomers to the area. They are first mentioned in the mid 9th century BCE as a tribal people subjugated by the Assyrians. Way before that, the area was home to the Babylonians. First records indicate that Babylon was established as a city around the 23rd century BCE. It stood about 50 miles south of modern Baghdad. The city is mentioned in the Biblical Book of Genesis (11:9) as the home of the infamous Tower of Babel.In 587 BC, it was the Babylonians, under King Nebuchadnezzar II, who destroyed Jerusalem, the capital of the Kingdom of Judah. They also destroyed the Temple of Jerusalem – the “House of God” – built by King Solomon, as the centrepiece of Jewish faith. It stood on Jerusalem’s Mount Zion for almost 400 years. After the destruction, the legendary Ark of the Covenant, that had once housed the Ten Commandments, disappeared. According to Jewish tradition, it was hidden by the prophet Jeremiah. It has never been discovered. The Biblical books of 2 Chronicles and 2 Kings describes how the Babylonians took the elite of the Jewish people into captivity. Psalm 137:1 records the anguish of the captives: “By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept, when we remembered Zion”. After the Babylonian empire was defeated by the Persians from modern Iran, the prophets Ezra and Nehemiah led a minority of Jewish exiles back to Jerusalem, motivated by an ancient version of Zionism.

Biblical text confirmed?

Now for the first time, one hundred and ten, 2,500 year old Babylonian tablets have been discovered in Iraq that provide a glimpse of Jewish life in Babylonian exile. Put simply, the tablets corroborate the Biblical tale. They describe a town called Al-Yahudu i.e., “the village of the Jews”, by the river Chebar, mentioned in Ezekiel 1:1. They also attest to Judaic names such as “Gedalyahu”, “Hanan”, “Dana”, “Shaltiel” and a man with the same name as Israel’s current Prime Minister, “Netanyahu”. The “yahu” ending to these names is called “theophoric”, meaning, they attest to a belief in the God of the Torah, by including part of God’s name in people’s personal names. The tablets also record everyday business transactions and witness to the Jewish return to Jerusalem (Nehemiah 6:15-16), as commemorated in personal names such as “Yashuv Zadik”, meaning, “the righteous shall return [to Zion]”.This discovery is a remarkable confirmation of the historical reliability of the Biblical text. It is also a reminder that many people once lived in Iraq. Today, there are still remnants of some of these people: Jews, Christians, Mandeans (the last remaining followers of John the Baptist) and Yazidis, an ancient people whose beliefs combine elements of Zoroastrianism, the pre-Islamic religion of Persia, early Christianity and Judaism. All these ethnic survivors are now facing massacres, crucifixions, rape and decapitation.Do we dare let them disappear?

A source close to Hamas’s armed wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, said Saturday the group no longer recognizes Egypt as a broker with Israel, following an Egyptian court’s decision to label the group a terrorist organization.Meanwhile, Egypt announced plans for a unified task force to combat militants in the Sinai peninsula as its president vowed a long and difficult battle against terrorism.“After the court’s decision Egypt is no longer a mediator in Palestinian-Israeli matters,” a Hamas source told Reuters on Saturday, hours after the court’s ruling. Cairo has long been a go-between for both parties and has played a pivotal role in brokering a number of ceasefires in Gaza, including at the end of last summer’s war.Ismail Haniyeh, the group’s former prime minister in the Gaza Strip, lambasted Cairo over the announcement, saying “you [Egyptians] have lost your sense of justice.”“The Brigades are a source of pride, respect and bravery,” he said, according to Ynet.Since the Egyptian military ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in 2013, the authorities have accused the Palestinian group that controls the Gaza Strip of aiding jihadists, who have increased their attacks on security forces in the Sinai Peninsula.The choice to label the armed-wing a terrorist group was made two days after a host of coordinated attacks by jihadists on government forces in the Sinai Peninsula killed 31 people.Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi condemned the attacks, vowing a long, aggressive campaign against extremist groups operating in the restive region.“This battle will be difficult…and will take a long time,” he said in a televised statement on Saturday.“We will not leave Sinai for the terrorists,” he vowed.
