A marketing campaign by Friends of Science that has put up billboards and Youtube videos stating that the issue of climate change ended sixteen years ago is drawing wide-spread comments from critics. The campaign states, that the “Climate Crisis” has been cancelled.The issue of global climate change and the issue being driven by man’s activities on Earth are accepted as fact by a vast majority, 97% of the world’s scientists.Friends of Science are stating in their Youtube video that any change in the world’s climate are being driven by the solar activity and that right now radiation from the sun is at the highest level in 8000 years.“Friends of Science” state in a media release, “As reported in Montreal’s Le Soleil Nov. 20, 2014, the Friends of Science digital billboard campaign that says “The sun is the main driver of climate change. Not you. Not CO2” running in 6 selected Canadian cities, has erupted into controversy, especially in Montreal, as environmentalists and renewable energy proponents are calling for the message to be censored. Freedom of speech is enshrined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.”Norm Kalmanovitch, P. Geoph. and resident scientific adviser to Friends of Science rejects such comments as antithetical to scientific inquiry.Canada’s Globe and Mail published a report on Nov. 17, 2014 claiming that the Friends of Science campaign was running in over a dozen cities and would have cost $65,000 dollars, citing an anonymous advertising expert. LIMA, Peru (AP) — The current U.N. climate talks will be the first to neutralize all the greenhouse gas pollution they generate, offset by host country Peru's protection of forest at three different reserves, organizers say.Now the bad news: The Lima conference is expected to have the biggest carbon footprint of any U.N. climate meeting measured to date.At more than 50,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide, the negotiations' burden on global warming will be about 1 1/2 times the norm, said Jorge Alvarez, project coordinator for the U.N. Development Program.The venue is one big reason. It had to be built.Eleven football fields of temporary structures arose for the 13-day negotiations from what three months ago was an empty field behind Peru's army's headquarters. Concrete was laid, plumbing installed, components flown in from as far as France and Brazil.Standing in the midday sun here can get downright uncomfortable, but the Lima sun is not reliable. That's one reason solar panels were not used.For electricity, the talks are relying exclusively on diesel generators.Organizers had planned to draw power from Peru's grid, which is about 52 percent fed by non-polluting hydroelectric power. "We worked to upgrade transformers and generators but for some reason it didn't work," said Alvarez.Peru's hydroelectric power could be in danger by mid-century, anyway. Much of that water comes from glaciers that are melting at an accelerated pace. Peru is hardly on a green trajectory. Though it emits in a year the greenhouse gases that China spews in three days it has doubled its carbon output in the past decade.Nor is there a guarantee that the 580 square miles (1,500 square kilometers) of forest, whose conservation Alvarez said would offset the talks' carbon pollution, won't someday be gone. The Houston, Texas-sized area must lie unperturbed for a half-century in order to neutralize carbon emitted at the conference.

Alvarez itemized the talks' carbon footprint:
—Construction, nearly 20 percent of the footprint.

—Jet fuel burned by the estimated 11,000 delegates and observers who flew in from abroad. About 30 percent.

—Local transportation. Organizers hired more than 300 buses since there are no public transit services to the venue. All burn fossil fuels. About 15-20 percent.

—Electricity, solid waste treatment, water, paper, food, disposable plates and cups, keeping 40,000 police on high alert. The balance.

The 50,000 metric tons that the conference emits is what China as a country emits in three minutes, the U.S. does in five minutes and host nation Peru does in six hours and 40 minutes.A more accurate carbon footprint will be published after the conference and certified by the Spanish company Aenor, organizers say. U.N. volunteers have been polling delegates on their air travel in search of precision.

The conference's green components are meager.

Peruvian Environment Minister Manuel Pulgar-Vidal asked for a bicycle parking lot. He got it, but only about 40 people use it daily. Most delegates spend about an hour in traffic traveling less than 6 miles (10 kilometers) from their hotels.Blame that, in part, on the army. Listed below are my reasons why I believe that it is very significant that there were "exactly Seven" Jewish Sabbath years between the 70 AD Jewish Diaspora out of Israel, and the 64 AD Great Christian Holocaust persecutions by the Romans.There is the association that the hostility that happened to the Christians in the Christian Holocaust beginning in July of 64 AD, has a very close similarity to what also happened later to the Jews in the Jewish Diaspora in Israel in 70 AD.There had been for a long time since Jesus's death, great hostile "unrest" between the Jewish Leaders and the Christians, with the Jewish leaders being the only hostile persecutors as St Paul for example was originally a well known Jewish persecutor who brought much hostility against the Christians until he was introduced to and came to personally know Jesus.The exact opposite of hostile unrest is rest, and in particular a Jewish Sabbath rest that involves a number of seven time periods.Beginning with the Jewish Diaspora ( seventh year ) there was the beginning of a special Sabbath rest that involved the Jewish hostilities toward the Christians, because the Jewish Leaders in the Diaspora were too busy trying to stay alive themselves since the start of the Jewish Diaspora.A precision made Sabbath time of a "perfectly and exactly timed seventh year" time period between these two associated but very different random events in 70 AD abd 64 AD, indicates to me the work of God's doing who is demonstrating his precise ability to make his will accomplished and also to leave a clear historical message and record. The result isn’t realpolitik, its surrealpolitik.The world’s unrelenting focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is an injustice to tens of millions of victims of tyranny and terrorism in the Middle East.As we speak, Yazidis, Bahai, Kurds, Christians and Muslims are being executed and expelled by radical extremists at a rate of 1,000 people per month. How many resolutions did you pass last week to address this crisis? And how many special sessions did you call for? The answer is zero.What does this say about international concern for human life? Not much, but it speaks volumes about the hypocrisy of the international community. I stand before you to speak the truth.Of the 300 million Arabs in the Middle East and North Africa, less than half a percent are truly free – and they are all citizens of Israel. Israeli Arabs are some of the most educated Arabs in the world. They are our leading physicians and surgeons, they are elected to our parliament, and they serve as judges on our Supreme Court.Millions of men and women in the Middle East would welcome these opportunities and freedoms. Nonetheless, nation after nation, will stand at this podium today and criticize Israel – the small island of democracy in a region plagued by tyranny and oppression.Mr. President, our conflict has never been about the establishment of a Palestinian state. It has always been about the existence of the Jewish state.Sixty-seven years ago this week, on November 29, 1947, the United Nations voted to partition the land into a Jewish state and an Arab state. Simple. The Jews said yes. The Arabs said no. But they didn’t just say no. Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon launched a war of annihilation against our newborn state.This is the historical truth that the Arabs are trying to distort. The Arabs’ historic mistake continues to be felt –- in lives lost in war, lives lost to terrorism, and lives scarred by the Arab’s narrow political interests.According to the United Nations, about 700,000 Palestinians were displaced in the war initiated by the Arabs themselves. At the same time, some 850,000 Jews were forced to flee from Arab countries.Why is it, that 67 years later, the displacement of the Jews has been completely forgotten by this institution while the displacement of the Palestinians is the subject of an annual debate? The difference is that Israel did its utmost to integrate the Jewish refugees into society. The Arabs did just the opposite.

The worst oppression of the Palestinian people takes place in Arab nations. In most of the Arab world, Palestinians are denied citizenship and are aggressively discriminated against. They are barred from owning land and prevented from entering certain professions. And yet none – not one – of these crimes are mentioned in the resolutions before you.If you were truly concerned about the plight of the Palestinian people there would be one, just one, resolution to address the thousands of Palestinians killed in Syria. And if you were so truly concerned about the Palestinians, there would be at least one resolution to denounce the treatment of Palestinians in Lebanese refugee camps.But there isn’t. The reason is that today’s debate is not about speaking for peace or speaking for the Palestinian people –- it is about speaking against Israel. It is nothing but a hate and bashing festival against Israel.Mr. President, the European nations claim to stand for Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité –- freedom, equality, and brotherhood -– but nothing could be farther from the truth.I often hear European leaders proclaim that Israel has the right to exist in secure borders. That’s very nice. But I have to say –- it makes about as much sense as me standing here and proclaiming Sweden’s right to exist in secure borders.When it comes to matters of security, Israel learned the hard way that we cannot rely on others –- certainly not Europe.In 1973, on Yom Kippur –- the holiest day on the Jewish calendar -– the surrounding Arab nations launched an attack against Israel. In the hours before the war began, Golda Meir, our Prime Minister then, made the difficult decision not to launch a preemptive strike. The Israeli Government understood that if we launched a preemptive strike, we would lose the support of the international community.As the Arab armies advanced on every front, the situation in Israel grew dire. Our casualty count was growing and we were running dangerously low on weapons and ammunition. In this, our hour of need, President Nixon and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, agreed to send Galaxy planes loaded with tanks and ammunition to resupply our troops. The only problem was that the Galaxy planes needed to refuel on route to Israel.The Arab States were closing in and our very existence was threatened –- and yet, Europe was not even willing to let the planes refuel. The U.S. stepped in once again and negotiated that the planes be allowed to refuel in the Azores. The government and people of Israel will never forget that when our very existence was at stake, only one country came to our aid –- the United States of America.Israel is tired of hollow promises from European leaders. The Jewish people have a long memory. We will never ever forget that you failed us in the 1940s. You failed us in 1973. And you are failing us again today.Every European parliament that voted to prematurely and unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state is giving the Palestinians exactly what they want –- statehood without peace. By handing them a state on a silver platter, you are rewarding unilateral actions and taking away any incentive for the Palestinians to negotiate or compromise or renounce violence. You are sending the message that the Palestinian Authority can sit in a government with terrorists and incite violence against Israel without paying any price.The first E.U. member to officially recognize a Palestinian state was Sweden. One has to wonder why the Swedish Government was so anxious to take this step. When it comes to other conflicts in our region, the Swedish Government calls for direct negotiations between the parties -– but for the Palestinians, surprise, surprise, they roll out the red carpet. State Secretary Söder may think she is here to celebrate her government’s so-called historic recognition, when in reality it’s nothing more than an historic mistake.

The Swedish Government may host the Nobel Prize ceremony, but there is nothing noble about their cynical political campaign to appease the Arabs in order to get a seat on the Security Council. Nations on the Security Council should have sense, sensitivity, and sensibility. Well, the Swedish Government has shown no sense, no sensitivity and no sensibility. Just nonsense.Israel learned the hard way that listening to the international community can bring about devastating consequences. In 2005, we unilaterally dismantled every settlement and removed every citizen from the Gaza Strip. Did this bring us any closer to peace? Not at all. It paved the way for Iran to send its terrorist proxies to establish a terror stronghold on our doorstep.I can assure you that we won’t make the same mistake again. When it comes to our security, we cannot and will not rely on others. Israel must be able to defend itself by itself.Mr. President, the State of Israel is the land of our forefathers –- Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. At the same time, we recognize that Jerusalem has special meaning for other faiths. Under Israeli sovereignty, all people –- and I will repeat that, all people -– regardless of religion and nationality can visit the city’s holy sites. And we intend to keep it this way. The only ones trying to change the status quo on the Temple Mount are Palestinian leaders.President Abbas is telling his people that Jews are contaminating the Temple Mount. He has called for days of rage and urged Palestinians to prevent Jews from visiting the Temple Mount using (quote) “all means” necessary. These words are as irresponsible as they are unacceptable.You don’t have to be Catholic to visit the Vatican, you don’t have to be Jewish to visit the Western Wall, but some Palestinians would like to see the day when only Muslims can visit the Temple Mount.You, the international community, are lending a hand to extremists and fanatics. You, who preach tolerance and religious freedom, should be ashamed. Israel will never let this happen. We will make sure that the holy places remain open to all people of all faiths for all time.Mr. President, no one wants peace more than Israel. No one needs to explain the importance of peace to parents who have sent their child to defend our homeland. No one knows the stakes of success or failure better than we Israelis do. The people of Israel have shed too many tears and buried too many sons and daughters.We are ready for peace, but we are not naïve: Israel’s security is paramount. Only a strong and secure Israel can achieve a comprehensive peace.The past month should make it clear to anyone that Israel has immediate and pressing security needs. We have reached the point when Israelis can’t even find sanctuary from terrorism in the sanctuary of a synagogue.These attacks didn’t emerge out of a vacuum. They are the results of years of indoctrination and incitement. A Jewish proverb teaches: “The instruments of both death and life are in the power of the tongue.”As a Jew and as an Israeli, I know with utter certainly that when our enemies say they want to attack us, they mean it.Hamas’s genocidal charter calls for the destruction of Israel and the murder of Jews worldwide. For years, Hamas and other terrorist groups have sent suicide bombers into our cities, launched rockets into our towns, and sent terrorists to kidnap and murder our citizens.And what about the Palestinian Authority? It is leading a systemic campaign of incitement. In schools, children are being taught that ‘Palestine’ will stretch from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. In mosques, religious leaders are spreading vicious libels accusing Jews of destroying Muslim holy sites. In sports stadiums, teams are named after terrorists. And in newspapers, cartoons urge Palestinians to commit terror attacks against Israelis. Children in most of the world grow up watching cartoons of Mickey Mouse singing and dancing. Palestinian children also grow up watching Mickey Mouse, but on Palestinians national television, a twisted figure dressed as Mickey Mouse dances in an explosive belt and chants “Death to America and death to the Jews.”I challenge you to stand up here today and do something constructive for a change. Publically denounce the violence, denounce the incitement, and denounce the culture of hate.Most people believe that at its core, the conflict is a battle between Jews and Arabs or Israelis and Palestinians. They are wrong. The battle that we are witnessing is a battle between those who sanctify life and those who celebrate death. Following the savage attack in a Jerusalem synagogue, celebrations erupted in Palestinian towns and villages. People were dancing in the street and distributing candy. Young men posed with axes, loudspeakers at mosques called out congratulations, and the terrorists were hailed as “martyrs” and “heroes.”This isn’t the first time that we saw the Palestinians celebrate the murder of innocent civilians. We saw them rejoice after every terrorist attack on Israeli civilians and they even took to the streets to celebrate the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center right here in New York City.Imagine the type of state this society would produce. Does the Middle East really need another terror-ocracy? Some members of the international community are aiding and abetting its creation.Mr. President, as we came into the United Nations, we passed the flags of all 193 member States. If you take the time to count, you will discover that there are 15 flags with a crescent and 25 flags with a cross. And then there is one flag with a Jewish Star of David.Amidst all the nations of the world there is one state -– just one small nation state for the Jewish people. And for some people, that is one too many.As I stand before you today I am reminded of all the years when Jewish people paid for the world’s ignorance and indifference in blood. Those days are no more. We will never apologize for being a free and independent people in our sovereign state. And we will never apologize for defending ourselves.To the nations that continue to allow prejudice to prevail over truth, I say “J’accuse.” I accuse you of hypocrisy. I accuse you of duplicity. I accuse you of lending legitimacy to those who seek to destroy our State. I accuse you of speaking about Israel’s right of self-defense in theory, but denying it in practice. And I accuse you of demanding concessions from Israel, but asking nothing of the Palestinians.In the face of these offenses, the verdict is clear. You are not for peace and you are not for the Palestinian people. You are simply against Israel.Members of the international community have a choice to make:You can recognize Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people, or permit the Palestinian leadership to deny our history without consequence.You can publically proclaim that the so-called “claim of return” is a non-starter, or you can allow this claim to remain the major obstacle to any peace agreement.You can work to end Palestinian incitement, or stand by as hatred and extremism take root for generations to come.You can prematurely recognize a Palestinian state, or you can encourage the Palestinian Authority to break its pact with Hamas and return to direct negotiations.The choice is yours. BRUSSELS - Belgium is on course to join a new group of EU countries calling for Palestine recognition.Its federal parliament is expected to vote next week on a draft motion asking the Belgian government to do it at a future point when it sees fit. It is legally non-binding and doesn't mention a deadline.The initiative comes after four of the biggest parties - the N-VA, MR, CD&V, and VLD - agreed to back the project.But for its part, the Belgian foreign ministry wants to wait for two developments.It wants to see if a new French-Jordanian UN Security Council project to get an Israel-Palestine peace deal by 2016 bears fruit.It also wants to see if a new EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process, to be appointed shortly, can make an impact.“We’ve had 20 years of the peace process with no outcome and there is a lot of frustration in Europe with the lack of good will in Israel. But the time hasn’t come to abandon it [the process] yet”, a Belgian diplomat told EUobserver.He noted that Belgium is in talks with like-minded EU states who plan to jointly recognise Palestine if need be.He said the likely recognisers include Britain, France, Ireland, and Spain - where parliaments also passed pro-recognition motions in the past six weeks.He added that other potential recognisers include Austria, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, and Portugal, which voted Yes on Palestine’s UN “observer state” status in 2012.“You can only recognise a country once. So we want to do it when it has the maximum impact … We don’t want to go it alone. We want to do it as part of a co-ordinated decision by the European Union or, at least, with as many [EU] partners as possible”.Asked on Thursday (4 December) if the US would back EU recognition, Marie Harf, a State Department spokeswoman took the Israeli line, saying: “We believe the path forward here is direct negotiations between the two sides”.But the EU and US do see eye to eye in other areas.The EU last year blocked grants and loans to Israeli settler entities with Washington's tacit approval.Israeli daily Haaretz on Thursday said the White House is working on similar measures to deter settlement expansion, with Harf declining to confirm or deny the report.The Belgian diplomat added that EU recognition will only make a difference if the US, Israel’s security sponsor, tries to re-launch Arab-Israeli talks at the same time.“What can you do? Syria’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday demanded that the United Nations impose sanctions on Israel in response to what it termed “the Israeli aggression on the Syrian soil”, hours after Syria accused Israel of carrying out airstrikes against two government-held areas in Damascus province.In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the UN Security Council, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said, according to the SANA news agency, that Israel “has committed a heinous crime against the sovereignty of Syria as Israeli warplanes attacked two safe areas in al-Dimas and near Damascus International Airport in Damascus Countryside, causing material damage in a number of institutions there.”The letter claimed, as Syria has done in the past, that “the attack is in the framework of extending help and support to the armed terrorist groups in Syria, especially after the series of achievements made by the Syrian army in Deir Ezzor, Aleppo, Daraa and other areas.”“The attack also aims at covering up the internal disputes in Israel through diverting the attention away from the collapse of the Israeli coalition government and the extremism of this government, embodied in its continued occupation of the Arab territories and violation of the international legitimacy and law in addition to UN Security Council’s resolutions,” the letter said.The letter further said that the Syrian government is calling to impose “deterring sanctions on Israel, which did not hide its policy in supporting terrorism,” according to SANA.

The Subcommittee for Judea and Samaria of the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee hosted on Sunday the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), Major General Yoav Mordechai, for a discussion of illegal construction in Judea and Samaria.According to information presented to the committee, about 550 illegal structures were built by Arabs in Areas C in the course of 2014, as opposed to 150 illegal structures built by Jews. Bearing in mind that the Arab population in Areas C is smaller than the Jewish one – about 90,000 Arabs compared with about 400,000 Jews – the rate of illegal construction in the Arab sector is 16 times that in the Jewish sector.Subcommittee Chairman MK Moti Yogev (Jewish Home) demanded that the security authorities carry out demolition orders against illegal structures and present a timetable for the relocation of Bedouins from the Abu Dis and northern Jericho area. In addition, he demanded that international organizations encouraging illegal building be reined in."Based on my past experience,” he said, “with the cooperation of the Israel Police, we removed the foreign lawbreakers in the past, through the court, and expelled them from Israel. This is what is required today, too, of the elements in Central Command, the Civil Administration and the Foreign Ministry – to enforce the law.”MK Orit Struk (Jewish Home) said the information presented to the committee shows an “astronomical” rate of illegal construction by Arabs in Areas C. She said the phenomenon was “organized, funded and timed by the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the European Union,” and blamed the IDF's Civil Administration for failing to forestall it.The NGO Regavim presented the committee with aerial photographs that show that the PA is systematically encouraging illegal construction in the area next to Jerusalem. The construction is funded by EU states, in contravention of the law and previous agreements.Regavim's Ovad Arad accused the Israeli defense establishment of standing by idly as the PA works day and night to take over state land. He said that some of the delays in enforcement stem from legal obstacles, but it does not stand to reason that the legal advisor of the Civil Administration is the one who runs the Administration, de facto. In addition, he claimed, the Administration sits on its hands even when there are no legal obstacles to demolishing illegal structures.A source in COGAT denied, in a conversation with Arutz Sheva, that there is any discrimination against Jews in enforcement of demolition orders.

A Muslim convert who left Canada last year to join the Islamic State (ISIS) resurfaced in a propaganda video on Sunday to threaten Canadians they will be “indiscriminately targeted” in retaliation for joining the international military coalition fighting the terror group.According to the National Post, in a six-minute video, the man said the October killings of two Canadian Forces members in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, and Ottawa by men who had adopted Islamist extremist beliefs were a “direct response” to Canada’s role in Iraq.“The more bombs you drop on our people, the more Muslims will realize and understand that today, waging jihad against the West and its allies around the world is beyond a shadow of the doubt a religious obligation binding upon every Muslim,” he said.While he identified himself as Abu Anwar al-Canadi, three former friends said they recognized him as John Maguire, a former University of Ottawa student who converted to Islam and became radicalized before vanishing last year.His family told the National Post the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had told his mother he was in Syria and had travelled there on a one-way ticket. Posting online under the name “Yahya” Maguire, he had called Canada “evil” and said that he wanted “the opportunity for martyrdom.”Originally from Kemptville, Ontario, the 24-year-old is one of the dozens of Canadians believed to be fighting with extremist groups in Iraq and Syria.Since the attacks in Quebec and Ottawa, the government has proposed new legislation to better track them abroad.“Terrorism remains a real and serious threat to Canadians, which is why we must remain vigilant,” said Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, in a statement on Sunday.“That is why we are taking part in the coalition that is currently conducting air strikes against [ISIS], and supporting the security forces in Iraq in their fight against this terrorist scourge,” added Blaney. “It is also the reason that we are working very determinedly to strengthen the tools available to the police and intelligence community to better protect us.”‘The video, posted onto Twitter and jihadi Web forums, and distributed by the SITE Intelligence Group, said Canada was “waging war” against Muslims. “So it should not surprise you when operations by the Muslims are executed where it hurts you the most – on your very own soil – in retaliation to your unprovoked acts of aggression towards our people,” Maguire said.“You have absolutely no right to live in a state of safety and security when your country is carrying out atrocities on our people,” he added. “Your people will be indiscriminately targeted as you indiscriminately target our people.”Like many jihadists, Maguire claimed he had been an ordinary Canadian until his religious awakening. “I was one of you. The two are recent converts to Islam.
