21  And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
22  And the children (2 NATIONS IN HER-ISRAEL-ARABS) struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD.
23  And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels;(ISRAEL AND THE ARABS) and the one people shall be stronger than the other people;(ISRAEL STRONGER THAN ARABS) and the elder shall serve the younger.(LITERALLY ISRAEL THE YOUNGER RULES (ISSAC)(JACOB-LATER NAME CHANGED TO ISRAEL) OVER THE OLDER ARABS (ISHMAEL)(ESAU)

1 The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.
2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.
3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
4 In that day, saith the LORD, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness.
5 And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the LORD of hosts their God.

China publishes PM adviser’s hawkish book on Jerusalem-Dore Gold’s ‘The Fight for Jerusalem’ calls for city to remain undivided under Israeli sovereignty — in contrast to Beijing’s policy-By Raphael Ahren May 5, 2014, 2:33 am 5-The Times of Israel

The Foreign Ministry of China has published a book about Jerusalem by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s foreign policy adviser Dore Gold, whose core thesis appears to contradict Beijing’s positions on the Middle East conflict.Gold’s “The Fight for Jerusalem: Radical Islam, the West, and the Future of the Holy City,” first published in 2007, argues that the city needs to remain united under Israeli sovereignty, based on the Jewish people’s historical rights and Israel’s responsibility to safeguard the holy sites in the Old City. China’s official position, by contrast, requires a division of Jerusalem.Last May, President Xi Jinping announced a four-point proposal to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, calling for the creation of a Palestinian state on the basis of the pre-1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.According to Gold, who earlier this year rejoined the Prime Minister’s Office as a part-time foreign policy adviser, the new-found interest in his book has to do with Beijing’s increased focus on regional policy.“China right now is in a learning phase. They want to understand the Middle East,” Gold, a former Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, told The Times of Israel last week in his Jerusalem office. “Therefore, a book that explains an Israeli view — I believe it’s a mainstream view in the state of Israel — on Jerusalem is something of interest to them. Not just purely to learn the facts but to see also the analysis: why does Israel claim that Jerusalem has to remain united under Israeli sovereignty, what’s the underlying logic of that?” Gold, who still serves as president of the hawkish Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, said his book — a former New York Times bestseller — explains that Jerusalem was always a Jewish city, and argues that its holy sites would be in danger of destruction if any authority other than Israel were to rule over the Old City. The Chinese people and government have a deep appreciation for the ancient civilization of the Jewish people, as they see themselves as an ancient civilization as well, Gold said. “Their own diplomatic approach to territorial disputes is related to the issue of historical rights. I don’t think Israel is going to get involved in the question of historical rights in the South China Sea or in Tibet or other places. But it is interesting that that is an issue for them and the whole restoration of the Jewish state is based on historical rights,” he said.Gold first connected with the Chinese government in 2012, when his center hosted in Israel a delegation from a think tank affiliated with the Communist Party’s Central Committee. After he delivered a briefing on Jerusalem, they expressed interest in translating his book, which in Chinese is simply called “Jerusalem.” According to Gold, “a few thousand” copies of his book were printed in China, aimed mainly at diplomats and people dealing with policy matters. On the cover of the Chinese edition of “The Fight for Jerusalem,” Gold is described as a “famous Israeli politician.” On the back cover of the book, the translators note that “undoubtedly, in this book the writer expresses his own ideas of history, national feelings and value judgments, some of which we do not agree with. But we tried our best to keep the original text and do not abridge anything in order to maintain the integrity of the book, and also give researchers more Israelis views.”

Poll: 24% of Arab Israelis celebrate Independence Day-Survey shows MK Rivlin top presidential candidate; 58% would back budget cuts to Nakba-commemorating institutions-By Marissa Newman May 4, 2014, 9:53 pm-The Times of Israel

Nearly a quarter of Arab Israelis say they mark Israeli Independence Day as a holiday, a poll from the Israel Democracy Institute revealed Sunday. The survey — released ahead of the national holiday which begins Monday at sundown — evaluated questionnaires from 600 participants from various communities regarding their attitudes to Independence Day, their preference for next president, and their stance on cutting government funding for institutions that mark the Palestinian Nakba (or “catastrophe,” as the Palestinian national movement refers to the 1948 war in which Israel was founded). When it came to celebrating Independence Day, results differed across national, religious, political, and age groups, with 87% of Jewish Israelis and 24% of Arab Israelis considering the day a holiday.By self-identified religiosity, 93% of the secular population, 97% of the “traditional non-religious,” 90% of the “traditional religious,” 94% of the Orthodox, and 35% of the ultra-Orthodox said they celebrated the holiday. When grouped by political affiliation, the left showed higher rates of self-reported celebration of the holiday, with 95% of the left and moderate left, 94% of centrists, 88% of the moderate right, and 79% of the right observing the day. Finally, respondents over 45 were far more likely to celebrate Independence Day (with 95% of people over 55 and 96% of 45- to 54-year-olds) than their younger counterparts, and the numbers declined with age: 69% of those aged 18-24, 77% at 25-34 and 87% of those aged 35-44.The poll also asked respondents if they would support a law permitting the government to limit funding to institutions that commemorate the Nakba. Fifty-eight percent said they would support the law, and 33% would oppose it. Support was strongest among those who self-identified as “moderate right” (70%), followed by “center” (62%), “right” (57%), and “moderate left” (41%), with the “left” voicing the least support (19%) for such limits on state funding.
The poll also examined the different communities’ support for candidates competing in next month’s Knesset vote to succeed President Shimon Peres this summer.Likud MK Reuven Rivlin was the leading contender with 32% of the vote. Nobel laureate chemist Dan Shechtman came in second place with 13%, followed by Labor MK Binyamin (Fuad) Ben-Eliezer with 10%. Former Supreme Court justice Dalia Dorner received 8% of the vote, while veteran MK Meir Sheetrit of Hatnuah received just 7%. Thirty percent of participants declined to answer the question. While the survey indicates general popularity, the president is elected by the 120 members of Knesset, not by the public.

Netanyahu visits grave of brother, Yoni, ahead of Memorial Day-Prime minister pays respects on Mount Herzl on Saturday night, to avoid ‘Yom Hazikaron’ crowds-By JTA May 4, 2014, 3:44 pm 2-The Times of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the grave of his brother, Yoni, at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl, in advance of Memorial Day.Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, visited the grave on Saturday night, in order to not interfere with the crowds who will visit Mount Herzl and the more than 50 military cemeteries throughout the country on Yom Hazikaron, or Memorial Day, which starts on Sunday night.Yoni Netanyahu was killed during a rescue operation to release hostages during Operation Entebbe in 1976.Israel’s Memorial Day, which will honor the 23,169 casualties of war and terrorism who have been killed since 1860, will begin on Sunday night with a one-minute long siren at 8 p.m. and mark the beginning of the national memorial service at the Western Wall, which is broadcast on all Israeli television channels.A second siren on Monday at 11 a.m. will last for two minutes and mark the beginning of memorial services at Israel’s 52 military cemeteries. On Monday morning, the annual ceremony in memory of victims of anti-Semitic incidents and terror attacks around the world will take place at the Jewish Agency for Israel in Jerusalem, in a program sponsored by: The Jewish Agency for Israel, the World Zionist Organization, the Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF), Keren Hayesod-UIA, the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), and the Jewish Federations of Canada-UIA.According to Jewish Agency figures, some 200 Jews have been killed in anti-Semitic terror attacks around the world since Israel’s establishment.

Peres on Memorial Day: ‘Our joy is always incomplete’-After siren sounds for 25,664 fallen soldiers, terror victims, president tells troops and bereaved families that Israelis ‘still live by the sword but seek peace with all our hearts’-By Marissa Newman May 4, 2014, 8:06 pm 5-The Times of Israel

Israel came to a standstill Sunday evening at 8 p.m. for a minute-long memorial siren during which Israelis stood at attention to commemorate the 23,169 fallen soldiers and 2,495 terror victims who have fallen throughout the history of the State of Israel and the Zionist movement. The siren was followed by the lighting of a memorial flame to the fallen at the Western Wall, the site of the official state commemoration ceremony.“ It wasn’t a declaration that founded this wonderful country. It was founded upon the blood of its sons and daughters, upon the sweat of the pioneers and the vision of its prophets,” President Shimon Peres said at the Western Wall ceremony. “Israel today is a strong country, a miracle in the eyes of the Jews, a wonder in the eyes of the world. We, the Israelis, are not like any other people. For a generation already the sadness does not release us, even for joy. Our joy is always incomplete. A cloud of sadness envelops us. It is hidden deeply but stares out of our eyes,” the president lamented to an audience of IDF soldiers and families of the fallen.Peres then sounded an optimistic note for a sad day.“We still live by the sword but seek peace with all our hearts. The battle is not over, we have not reached our goals…. To our neighbors we offer a true partnership and a new life, where trees bearing fruit will replace arrows inflicting agony. I am sure that we will all live to see those days.”IDF chief of staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz recalled the sacrifices of Israel’s fallen soldiers, adding that more sacrifice will be needed in the future to defend the country.“Here, tonight, we promise we will stand alert, prepared to respond to any flare-up, and will perform any mission required to ensure Israel’s security. We cannot promise that all our troops will return safely. We are committed to send them to battle trained, armed with the best equipment, led by the best commanders. But this isn’t enough. The nation’s support is needed as well. Your recognition and appreciation are the most precious ammunition our soldiers carry,” Gantz said.“We know the relative security calm we’ve experienced in the past years is an illusion,” Gantz added.Israelis began to mark Memorial Day on Sunday afternoon. Commemoration ceremonies will continue throughout the country until Monday night, when Memorial Day ends abruptly with the start of celebrations marking Independence Day.The first official event began at 4 p.m. Sunday at Yad LaBanim, or “Memorial for the Sons,” in Jerusalem. The event was attended by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose brother Yoni fell during the IDF’s rescue of Jewish hostages in Entebbe, Uganda, in July 1976. It was also attended by other families of the fallen, Israel’s chief rabbis, Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein, Supreme Court Chief Justice Asher Grunis, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and other top officials.“On this day, the nation adopts us and unites with us, and with the heroes of the nation,” Netanyahu said, speaking for the families of the fallen. “They came from all parts of the country, from all segments of Israeli society, and the simple and most concise truth is this: We would not be here if not for their sacrifice. We would not be here without their readiness to give their lives so we could be here. This right, this sacrifice, the ability to risk their lives in the face of the horrors of war — all this was not available to us before the founding of Israel.”“No one has to remind you how to remember. You never forgot,” Edelstein said in a statement Sunday addressed to bereaved families. “Memorial Day is the commandment of the entire nation, a nation that stands and bows its head respectfully and with humility at the [soldiers'] dedication and contribution.”In a statement, opposition leader MK Isaac Herzog (Labor) said, “It’s important that tonight and tomorrow, as we gather to remember the IDF fallen, that we remember those heroes who paid with their lives so that Jerusalem will return to be the beating heart of the Jewish nation and the capital of the state.”
“As we gather together in the cemeteries, at the memorials, and at the IDF ceremonies, we remember those who gave this country all they could give. The fallen soldiers and terror victims accompany us in their absence at every step of the way, at every crossroads that life throws at us,” IDF chief of staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz said Sunday. On Monday, a two-minute siren will sound at 11 a.m., with ceremonies beginning shortly afterward at 44 military cemeteries nationwide. At 1 p.m. Monday, a separate commemoration for Israel’s terror victims will be held at Mount Herzl.

Pakistan said to plan attack against Israeli, US consulates in India-Indian intelligence claims a suspect confessed to arranging travel papers for attackers; Pakistani embassy denies report
By Marissa Newman May 4, 2014, 6:12 pm 1-The Times of Israel

Pakistani intelligence and the country’s embassy in Sri Lanka planned to carry out terror attacks against the Israeli consulate in Bangalore, India, and the US consulate in Chennai, The Times of India reported Sunday.Mohammed Sakir Hussain, a 37-year-old Sri Lankan national arrested on April 29, revealed during the course of an interrogation by Indian security agencies that he had been tasked by Pakistan’s embassy in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo — on behalf of the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI — with orchestrating the attacks on the two consulates, unnamed sources told the paper.Hussain allegedly said that he was instructed to arrange documents for two bombers traveling from Maldives to Chennai, and to oversee their accommodations. The investigators claimed photographs of the two consulates from various angles had been mailed to the two suspects, as well as to the embassy. An unnamed source maintained that a PDF file with detailed sketches of the two buildings was sent as well, and that an electronic signature shows that the images were downloaded by embassy employees.Muhammad Daud Ehtisham, press attache of the Pakistani embassy in Sri Lanka, denied the reports, calling them “a malicious media campaign to tarnish the image of Pakistan. This story is of a highly speculative nature and bears no truth,” he said.“The government of Pakistan and [its] state institutions are very responsible entities, and they don’t indulge in such…tactics.”

Ukrainian Jews immigrate to Israel amid growing unrest-19 arrive on Sunday; Jewish Agency says over 200 signed up for May alone; immigration from troubled country up 142%-By Times of Israel staff May 4, 2014, 6:48 am 16

A group of 19 Ukrainian Jews were immigrating to Israel on Sunday amid an escalating crisis that has seen a rising tide of anti-Semitic attacks. The group, whose arrival was coordinated in advance with the Jewish Agency for Israel, includes three families and three single women, according to a press release from the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem, which raised funds for the flight.“The unfolding crisis in Ukraine has meant an even more uncertain future for the Jewish community there, and we have acted swiftly once again to bring needy and endangered Jews home from this troubled region. It will be a privilege for our staff to welcome this first group home on Sunday,” ICEJ Executive Director Jürgen Bühler said in a statement. The ICEJ said it has been “raising funds from Christians worldwide over recent weeks” and has so far collected enough to bring 100 Jews to Israel, including the 19 set to arrive Sunday.According to a Jewish Agency blog post from last week, so far 2014 has seen a 142% increase in immigration to Israel from Ukraine, as compared to 2013. Almost 800 people arrived in the country over January-April, and over 200 have signed up for May. The agency noted these figures do not include those who have arrived as tourists and later completed the immigration process while already in the country. In November, a revolution erupted in Ukraine over the policies of former president Viktor Yanukovych, which many perceived to be pro-Russian. He was ousted from power in February and replaced by a provisional government which scheduled elections for next month.Hundreds died or were injured in deadly clashes between government troops and protesters. In the ensuing chaos, Ukrainian Jewish groups and individuals reported several attacks, including two stabbings, a few street beatings and the attempted torching of two synagogues.Russian President Vladimir Putin cited anti-Semitism to justify what international observers said was a Russian invasion into the Crimean Peninsula and its subsequent annexation to the Russian Federation.Ukrainian officials and nationalists, in turn, have accused pro-Russian separatists of staging anti-Semitic attacks to discredit the Ukrainian revolution and its supporters.Speaking in Kiev last month, US president Joe Biden lashed out lashed out at growing anti-Semitism in Ukraine, saying that “Just as corruption can have no place in the new Ukraine, neither can anti-Semitism or bigotry.“Let me say that again,” he continued, “neither can anti-Semitism or bigotry. No place. None. Zero. The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms all threats and attacks against Ukrainian Jewish communities as well as Roma and others.”Last week, the Jewish mayor of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, was flown to Israel for emergency medical treatment after he was left in critical condition in a shooting incident.AP and JTA contributed to this report.

PM: ‘Jewish Israel’ law vital to counter assault on legitimacy-Netanyahu tells cabinet his Basic Law proposal, enshrining Israel as Jewish people’s nation-state, will define Jewish rights without harming individuals-By Haviv Rettig Gur May 4, 2014, 2:25 pm-The Times of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeated his promise on Sunday to advance a constitutional Basic Law expressly identifying Israel as a Jewish nation-state.Speaking at the start of his weekly cabinet meeting, Netanyahu rebuffed criticism of the plan, saying the state currently lacked “adequate expression” of Israel’s “existence as the nation-state of the Jewish people” in the country’s set of Basic Laws.“It will define the national right of the Jewish people to the State of Israel, and will do so without harming the individual rights of all Israeli citizens in the State of Israel,” he said. “It will fortify the Law of Return as a Basic Law. It will anchor in Basic Laws the status of the national symbols – the flag, the anthem, the language and other components of our national existence.”Explaining the immediate trigger for the bill, Netanyahu said Israel’s Jewish status is under “constant and increasing assault from the outside, and even from within.”Israel does not have a constitution, but the country’s set of Basic Laws have been given the standing of one by the courts. As he did when announcing the legislative campaign Thursday, Netanyahu tied the new bill to the Israeli demand that the Palestinians recognize Israel as the Jewish nation-state.“There are of course those who do not want the State of Israel to be defined as the nation-state of the Jewish people,” he told the cabinet ministers. “They want to establish a Palestinian nation-state next to us, and that Israel slowly transform into a binational Arab-Jewish state in its shrunken borders.“The State of Israel grants equal rights, full individual rights, to all its citizens. But it is the nation-state of one nation only – the Jewish nation – and not of any other nation. Therefore, in order to fortify Israel’s status as the nation-state of the Jewish people I intend to lead the legislation of a Basic Law that will anchor this status,” he said.Netanyahu first proposed the new initiative at a Thursday press event in Tel Aviv. His announcement immediately sparked debate between the right-wing and center-left elements of his coalition on balancing the Jewish identification of the state with the country’s democratic constitutional commitments. Netanyahu signaled on Sunday that he welcomed the debate, and that all sides would be heard.“The new law will be drafted in a dialogue with all elements of the coalition, so that it protects the values of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state,” he said.Jerusalem’s demand that the Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state had been one of the major sticking points in the recently ended round of peace negotiations, with Netanyahu saying he will never sign an agreement without it and the Palestinians refusing adamantly.Even outside the framework of peace negotiations, Netanyahu’s plan is likely to cause controversy, as some 20 percent of Israel’s population is not Jewish.Raphael Ahren contributed to this report.

If You Voted to Release Terrorists - We Don't Want to See You'-Bereaved daughter advises ministers who voted to release terrorists not to show up at memorial ceremonies.-By Shimon Cohen and Elad Benari-First Publish: 5/5/2014, 12:16 AM-IsraelNationalNews

Meirav Osher, whose father Avi Osher was murdered by an Arab terrorist in 1991, on Sunday called on Cabinet ministers who supported the release of terrorists as a “gesture” to the Palestinian Authority (PA) not to come to ceremonies on Memorial Day.Osher’s murderer, Sharif Abu-Dahila, was released this past October as part of the third batch of terrorists Israel had agreed to release during peace talks with the PA."This Memorial Day is different from past ones,” Meirav Osher told Arutz Sheva. “The Government of Israel betrayed its people and released murderers for a piece of paper containing some falsehood. Bodies of terrorists were returned without the victims’ families being informed about it in advance. They released the vile murderer of my father and it’s a tough feeling. We do not forgive nor forget the ministers who voted in favor, the Prime Minister and anyone else who supported this release.”Avi Osher, 40 at the time of his death, had managed the date grove at Moshav Masua. Abu-Dahila, who had worked for Osher for years, stabbed him to death and hid his body in a vineyard.“My father was a lovely man, he was good to the Arab employees, viewed them as human beings just like him, and the terrorist took advantage of my father’s kindness and his fair treatment of him,” said Meirav Osher. “He took a machete and took advantage of a day when other workers were off to murder him. Then he went back to the packing house, drank coffee, stole my father’s M-16 and hid for a year before being caught.”She expressed anger not only at those Cabinet ministers who voted in favor of the terrorist releases, but also at those who voted against but failed to resign after the releases were approved.“They should have said ‘enough is enough’ because people are still being murdered, but they didn’t,” said Osher."From a moral point of view, I would advise the ministers who voted in favor of [releasing terrorists] not to come to the cemeteries [for the memorial ceremonies],” she continued. “They have no right to be there. You freed the murderers and we do not want to hear or see you. Leave us alone because you betrayed us and we are now walking around with terrible feelings. Do not come to the cemeteries. You aren’t wanted there.”

Abbas and Mashaal to Meet in Qatar-Hamas and Fatah continue to hold talks on the implementation of the unity pact signed between the sides recently.-By Dalit Halevi-First Publish: 5/5/2014, 1:16 AM-IsraelNationalNews

Hamas and Fatah are continuing to hold talks ahead of the planned elections, as stipulated in the unity pact signed between the sides recently.Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Fatah movement, is scheduled to travel to Qatar later this week, where he will meet with the head of Hamas’s politburo, Khaled Mashaal, and discuss the implementation of the unity pact.Meanwhile, Azzam Al-Ahmad, a member of the Fatah Central Committee who has been placed in charge of the reconciliation efforts, is to arrive this week in Gaza where he will hold talks with Hamas on the planned unity government. As part of the Hamas-Fatah deal, Abbas will issue a "presidential decree" announcing the dates for elections, which PA officials said would likely take place within the next six months. The PA’s Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah has already offered to step down to pave the way for a unity government. The unity government is supposed to be made up of independent figures, but a senior Hamas figure said this week that the group’s leadership decided to submit a candidate for the presidency.Late Saturday, Hamas’s deputy leader, Mussa Abu Marzuq, declared that Hamas will never recognize Israel and will not accept the conditions laid out by the Middle East peacemaking Quartet. These remarks are contrary to ones made by Abbas last week, when he said that the new government will "obey my policy," and would "recognize Israel and reject violence and terrorism, and recognize international commitments.”Israel reacted to the Hamas-Fatah deal by pulling out of the peace talks with the PA and imposing sanctions on it.Last week, U.S. Senators Mark Kirk and Marco Rubio called on Secretary of State John Kerry to publicly state that there will be an immediate cut-off of relevant assistance to the PA, should its new unity government fail to comply with the detailed requirements set forth by the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act of 2006.

Zaatari: birth of a new city in EU neighbourhood
03.05.14 @ 11:06-By Andrew Rettman-EUOBSERVER

ZAATARI - “Welcome to my neighbourhood: District 5, Street 18,” says Nour, a Syrian school teacher, as she leads EUobserver to her home: a metal container and a tent in the Zaatari refugee camp in the Jordanian desert. She is doing well. Her husband has a job in a fruit and vegetable shop on the “Champs-Elysees” - the UN’s humorous name for the camp’s main street. They have saved up for a washing machine, a fan, and a TV. Two of their four children go to school and Nour finds time to read her favourite writer, Syrian love poet Nizar Qabbani. In February last year, things were different. The family fled their village, near Daraa in southern Syria, when government snipers started shooting people from the tops of tall buildings. The Free Syrian Army (FSA), a rebel group, drove them through the countryside in a three-day trip to the border, where they walked for one hour before Jordanian guards took them to a UN registration point.“It was very cold, especially at night. We had to hide from government helicopters. The children were very frightened and they were crying all the way,” Nour said.Zaatari has also come a long way in the past 14 months.Kilian Kleinschmidt, the UN “mayor” in charge, told this website that for the first year after it opened in mid-2012 it was “a storage facility for human beings” with tents on naked sand.“The situation was tense. There was lots of violence. We had more than 100 violent demonstrations - stone throwing at our base camp and injured staff every month.”Heinke Veit, an official at the EU embassy in Amman, which has spent more than €50 million on aid in the past two years, noted: “People came from green fields in Syria to this dust bowl. They felt like they had landed on Mars.”Today, Zaatari is home to 100,000 Syrians from the Sunni Muslim majority which opposes President Bashar Assad’s Alawite Muslim government. It is the second largest refugee camp in the world after Dadaab in Kenya and what Kleinschmidt calls the fourth largest “city” in Jordan. It has six schools, four hospitals, and several kindergartens, playgrounds, and mosques, donated by Bahrain, Italy, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the US.The Champs-Elysees area hosts 4,000 small businesses. There are mini-supermarkets with trolleys, karate clubs, wedding-dress hire, pet shops, and travel agencies. Kleinschmidt estimates that €10 million a month changes hands in the camp’s “GDP.”People have moved around to create neighbourhoods of extended families. In some places, they have poured concrete between containers, built fountains and hung cages with song birds in imitation of their former life. They live on UN coupons which they exchange for food and other essentials. But many of them sneak back and forth past the Jordanian gendarmes and Bedouin guards who patrol the perimeter to work on the black in local villages. There is far less unrest, but there is crime - mafias control the market, and Jordanian farms alongside roads to the camp are littered with white tarpaulins bearing blue UN logos, which cost the UN $500 to supply, but which are sold for as little as 10 Jordanian Dinars ($14 or €10) on the outside.“Call it organised crime or disorganised crime: Everything that can be stolen is stolen," Kleinschmidt noted.“Professionals, those who have money, find ways to leave the camp and make arrangements for themselves in Amman. Those who are left are mostly former traders or border smugglers … They are incredibly active people,” he added. The criminality extends to arranged marriages. In Syria, the minimum legal age for girls to wed is 14, and some Zaatari fathers sell young daughters to men in Jordan, where the legal age is 18 and where Muslims can have up to four wives, in snap ceremonies officiated by Zaatari clerics. The UN and Jordan do not like to talk about it and initiatives to control the practice have reduced the numbers. But Carlos Gallegos, another EU official in Amman, said: “It’s a big issue for us.”Khaled, a Jordanian policeman from a nearby town, told EUobserver about a marriage which took place in March. He said: “A man and his wife went to Zaatari to buy UN food from the refugees. The man said: ‘I will stay and guard the car.’ While his wife was gone, they came and made him a proposal. He married a girl right there and then. His wife came back with bags. ‘Who’s this?’ she asked. ‘She is a poor refugee. We’ll drive her so that she can join her family in Jordan. It’s on our way home,’ he said. They drive. They drive. ‘Where is she is getting off?’ the wife asked. ‘Soon.' They drive again. ‘Is it near?’ the wife asked. ‘It’s near.' They get home. ‘So where does she live?’ the wife asked. ‘She lives with us now. She is my wife number one and if you don’t like it, you can go to hell.' So what can his old wife do? She is no longer attractive. No one else wants her. So she accepts it. It's true. It's true. And I know many cases like this.”

Small part

The camp is a small part of the Syrian civil war.The UN has registered 2.7 million refugees in Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, and Turkey since it began in 2011. It says more than 6 million have fled their homes but are still in Syria. It stopped counting the dead at 100,000 for lack of data. One official from the EU embassy in Amman drives to Damascus and back each month under Assad’s protection to appeal for more access. But the embassy’s Veit said Syria remains closed. “How much do we know about the death toll? How many people have really been displaced? We work on estimates,” she noted. There are five camps in Jordan and a sixth one, to house 130,000 people, is being built.Jordan’s top interior ministry official in charge of refugees, Saleh Kilani, told this website he has more than 600,000 registered persons, and up to 1.3 million Syrians in total trapped in his country. There are signs that Jordan's patience is wearing thin. Most refugees used to come via crossing points in north-west Jordan near the roads from Daraa. But the flow recently dropped to as few as 500 a month, mainly via the harsh deserts in the north-east, where Jordan borders Iraq and Syria and where people’s journeys can last weeks.Kilani told this website that his “[north-eastern] borders are not closed” and that the change is “because of the situation on the other side [in Syria].”But the UN and the EU suspect Jordanian guards in the north-east are pushing people back. “This is an issue that we are constantly trying to raise - that people who need protection should be able to cross wherever they are,” the EU’s Gallegos said.Meanwhile, back in Zaatari, Dima’s daily routine goes on.She wakes at 5am, prays, and goes to get bread for breakfast. She takes her two older daughters to school, where some classes have 150 students, but keeps her youngest daughter and her son at home.“I don’t let the children play outside our caravan because I am frightened for them to learn something bad … my son is an only boy, he has no brother to protect him, and there are too many bad boys here,” she says. She does housework. She cooks in the communal kitchens. The children go to bed at 9pm. She sleeps at 11pm. She does not go out in the evening because it is considered indecent for Muslim women to walk alone after dark.Despite the semblance of normality, the war is near. The camp is 12km from the Syrian border and people hear bombs and artillery shells on the other side. “When we hear the explosions, we remember everything: how we had to hide, the crying,” Nour said.It is not her real name. Few adults in Zaatari want to be named in press reports or photographed because they have relatives in Syria and they fear that if Syrian authorities identify them they will come to harm. One new family, which arrived the day EUobserver visited the camp, hid in an iron shack at the gate. The man said through an intermediary that he, his wife, and their one-year-old child had been on the road for two weeks, that they crossed near the Iraqi border, and that they wanted to leave Zaatari because they think Syrian secret police has infiltrators inside.Even those who are doing well long to leave the camp despite the UN's improvements. None of them want to be resettled in Europe.“We just hope to go back to Syria. It’s our country, our home … Nobody likes life here. It feels like a big prison,” Nour said.“It was better in my village. I want to go back,” Bashar, an 11-year-old boy who earns 1 to 3 Jordanian Dinars (JDs) a day working from 9am to 3pm carrying things in a wheelbarrow at the Zaatari gate, noted.Isam, a 40-year-old Syrian businessman, who earns 8 JDs a day doing odd jobs for the UN, added: “A man needs money to develop himself and there is no honest way to make money here.”He is the only one earning cash for a family which includes his and his brother’s wives and 42 children. But many men sit around doing nothing while their wives and sons, who get jobs more easily because they are paid less, become the breadwinners. The EU’s Veit said Syrian men reject psychological help, but their frustration causes domestic violence: “I once attended a women’s group in the camp and they told me: ‘We have two problems in our lives: One is [Syrian leader] Assad and the other is our husbands’.”The camp still sees occasional protests. In April, fighting between Jordanian gendarmes and Zaatari stone throwers saw one man shot dead and 20 injured.“They say: 'So what that you spend $500,000 a day on us? That’s the price of half a missile that America could fire at Assad’,” the UN’s Kleinschmidt said. Some men and boys sneak back to Syria to join the Jabhat al-Nusra rebel group, which is considered stronger than the FSA.

’We can live together again’

For his part, Adnan (not his real name), a 42-year-old Sunni imam, tries to make sure they have their parents’ written permission if they are minors. When he leads prayers for his congregation of more than 400 each Friday he calls for peace so they can return to Syria. But his contacts tell him that Assad is now using chlorine gas to kill civilians. Asked by EUobserver if people in Zaatari feel God has betrayed them, he said: “No. They accept God’s will.”He also voiced anger: “Assad is like a bacteria, a germ. God wants him to go, but many countries in the world want him to stay: Iran; Iraq; Hezbollah [a Shia Muslim militia in Lebanon].” Two ideas make him laugh. One: that Assad’s decision to hold elections in June will end the conflict. Two: that Western countries will intervene.“It’s a big joke. There can be no election when someone is killing his own people. He will elect himself again, but nobody will elect him … If America and other countries wanted to help, why have they waited until he killed half his people? It’s a black future for us,” Adnan said.He believes peace will come in the end.“People don’t have this feeling - to kill Alawis. Our war is not against Syrian citizens. It’s Assad who is trying to create a war between Alawi and Sunni. We can live together again. Sunni people want peace. A grieving mother, when she loses her child, grieves in the same way whether she is Sunni, Alawi, or Christian,” he added.Hais, a 16-year-old boy from Daraa, whose father died fighting with the FSA, echoes the imam. When asked by this website if he wants to take up arms, he said: “I don’t want to fight. I want to live. There has been enough killing in Syria.”As the EU considers how to spend aid in its next budgetary period, officials on the ground do not expect the crisis to end soon.“ Everybody [in the media] is writing about Ukraine now. It’s natural. But if there is less interest in Syria, there's likely to be less money,” the Amman embassy’s Veit noted. The EU's Gallegos said: “If Zaatari becomes a permanent settlement, it wouldn’t be the first one in Jordan. There are 2 million Palestinian refugees here from the 1940s whose camps became cities long ago, even if the Jordanians still call them 'camps’.”

FALSE POPE FROM THE VATICAN

REVELATION 13:11-13
11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth;(FALSE VATICAN POPE) and he had two horns like a lamb,(JESUS IS THE LAMB OF GOD) and he spake as a dragon.(HES SATANICALLY INSPIRED,HES A CHRISTIAN DEFECTOR FROM THE FAITH)
12 And he (FALSE RELIGIOUS LEADER) exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him,(WORLD DICTATOR) and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.(THE WORLD DICTATOR CREATES A FALSE RESURRECTION AND IS CROWNED LEADER OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER).
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

REVELATION 17:1-5,9,15-18
1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication,(VATICAN IN POLITICS) and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman (FALSE CHURCH) was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour,(VATICAN COLOURS)(ANOTHER REASON WE KNOW THE FALSE POPE COMES FROM THE VATICAN) and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.(THE VATICAN IS BUILT ON 7 HILLS OR MOUNTAINS)
15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.(VATICAN-CATHOLICS ALL AROUND THE WORLD OVER 1 BILLION)
16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast,(WORLD DICTATOR) these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

05/ 3/2014 - THE VATICAN INSIDER-A rabbi and an Islamic dignitary are to form part of papal entourage during visit to Holy Land-A view of Jerusalem-Abraham Skorka and Omar Abboud will be joining the official Vatican delegation that will be accompanying Pope Francis on his visit to Jordan, the Palestinian Territories and Israel-ANDREA TORNIELLI

vatican city-A rabbi and an Islamic dignitary are to officially form part of the Pope’s entourage on an international visit for the first time. Both of them are old friends of Pope Francis and both spent a great many years helping him to create room for dialogue in Buenos Aires. They will be accompanying him as full members of the Vatican delegation that will be travelling to the Holy Land for a brief but intense three-day pilgrimage, which will start in Jordan’s capital, Amman, on Saturday 24 May and continue the next morning with visits to Bethlehem, the Palestinian Territories and finally Jerusalem, in Israel.Abraham Skorka, rector of the Latin American Rabbinical Seminary of Buenos Aires and Omar Abboud, former secretary general of the Islamic Centre of Argentina will officially be accompanying Poep Francis on his Holy Land visit. Vatican correspondent, Alver Metalli, revealed the news to Vatican Insider yesterday and today it was confirmed by Vatican spokesman, Fr. Federico Lombardi.Francis is visiting the Holy Land at the invitation of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew. The main point of the visit is to meet all Christian denominations present in the Holy Land, in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to commemorate the historic embrace between Paul VI and Patriarch Athenagoras fifty years ago. The issue of dialogue among religions and relations between the three faiths who share every square inch of the Holy City, considered such by Jews, Christians and Muslims alike, will be of key importance. The Pope will therefore appear before his Jewish, Christian and Muslim interlocutors, accompanied by two old friends who helped him establish the Institute for dialogue in the Argentine capital. The initiative, Abboud pointed out, became “part of our national identity, a fruit that was eagerly cultivated by a number of leaders and religious leaders” thanks to the key impulse given by the then cardinal Bergoglio to create spaces in which a culture of encounter could be built.”Of course, Buenos Aires is “on the other side of the world”, miles away from the Middle Eastern tensions. And yet, as the Islamic leader – who like Bergoglio’s priests does not spurn the work done with the poor in the villas miserias, Buenos Aires’ slums - reminds us, “ours is one of the few cities in the world in which co-existence between religions developed in the way we can all see.”Commenting on the trip and the positive experience of Latin America, on his first visit to Rome after the March 2013 election, Rabbi Skorka received the following response from Pope Francis: “Our dialogue and friendship is proof that it is possible.” “We have done so much together,” Skorka recalled. “The Pope is a true friend of the Jewish people.”It is widely known that Israeli-Palestinian relations are going through a tough patch since Abu Mazen forged links with Hamas. Every gesture and word will be scrupulously analysed. This is precisely why the pilgrimage of a Pope who named himself after the saint of peace and has chosen two representatives of the Jewish and Muslim faiths as travel companions, can help renew dialogue.

05/ 3/2014 -THE VATICAN INSIDER-Vatican looks into possibility of establishing a Secretariat of Communications-Faithful in St. Peter's Square-As part of the plans for the re-organisation of the Roman Curia, the Vatican is deliberating the possibility of creating a centralized coordination structure based on the model of the new Vatican Economy structure-GIACOMO GALEAZZI

vatican city-A Secretariat of Communications. As part of the plans to reorganise the Curia, the Vatican is looking into the possibility of introducing a central coordination body along the lines of the Vatican structure for the Economy. All communications sections (which are currently split into various Curia offices: press office, Pontifical Council for Social Communications, CTV, Vatican radio, L’Osservatore Romano) would be centralized and grouped into one single entity.Last Wednesday, Vatican spokesman, Fr. Federico Lombardi, spoke at the professional seminar held by the Faculty of Institutional Communications at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross on the theme: “Creative Strategies for Promoting Cultural Change”.   In his speech – a summary of which was given by Vatican Radio – he announced an update to the communication of the Holy Father’s message to the world. And so we have yet seen everything: there are still many things we have to learn and see.”The various consultancy firms (Ernst & Young, KPMG, Priecewaterhouse Cooper's, Deloitte, McKinsey and Promontory Financial Group) that were tasked with preparing reports on a series of questions, from accountancy systems, to hospital management, the IOR and mass media, will soon be publishing their findings. One single body, the Pontifical Commission for Reference on the Organisation of the Economic-Administrative Structures of the Holy See (COSEA), headed by Joseph F.X. Zahra, will collect these findings and present them to Pope Francis for a final evaluation. The  Vatican structural reform process continues therefore and specific decisions are expected to be taken on individual subjects (communications in this case) which may be announced earlier. This is what happened in the economic sphere with the establishment of the Secretariat for the Economy headed by Cardinal George Pell, the “super-minister of finance”, the Council for the Economy coordinated by German cardinal Reinhard Marx (both members of the “C8”) and with the confirmation of the IOR’s mission. The IOR is to stay and will continue to provide specialist financial services” to the Church. The Curia dicasteries are also being re-examined: the Pope and the C8 are placing each and every one of the Pontifical Councils under the looking  glass, taking into consideration all the various proposals for merging and simplifying the structures. The “C8” meeting that has just come to an end is the fourth one following the sessions held in October, December and February. A fifth meeting has been scheduled for 4 July. Now the eight-member Council of Cardinals will need to finish discussing what to do with the Congregations and the Pontifical Councils, as well as the possible creation of the “moderator Curiae” figure to coordinate the various offices. The suggestion for the new position was made during the meetings held before the last Conclave, in a draft presented by Cardinal Francesco Coccopalmerio, head of the dicastery for Legislative Texts. The possibility of creating a Congregation for the Laity that would collect together and merge some of the Pontifical Councils, is also being examined.

04/30/2014 - VATICAN INSIDER-Those little prayers Francis slips under his St. Joseph statue
The statuette of St. Joseph Bergoglio had in his room at the Colegio Máximo in San Miguel (Argentina), the very same one that now sits in St. Martha's House in the Vatican-The statuette of St. Joseph Bergoglio had in his room at the Colegio Máximo in San Miguel (Argentina), the very same one that now sits in St. Martha's House in the VaticanFrancis has a statuette of St. Joseph near his room in St. Martha’s House, where he leaves prayer requests: “He’s a carpenter and he gets the job done, even though he sometimes makes you wait”-ANDREA TORNIELLI

vatican city-“The Holy Father really makes St. Joseph work. Francis’ devotion to Jesus’ adoptive father has spread to all those who work in and around the Pope’s residence, including the Swiss Guards…” Francis has a great devotion for St. Joseph and even keeps a statuette of the saint in a marble-topped dark wooden chest of drawers just outside his room (Room 201) in St. Martha’s House. The Pope slips prayer requests he has written under the pedestal and as the pieces of paper grow in number – “the Holy Father really makes the saint work” - the statuette slowly rises.Today, 1 May, is the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker and so it is the right occasion to write about a devotion which has accompanied Pope Francis since his childhood days. The parish of Flores, the Buenos Aires neighbourhood where Francis was born and grew up, is dedicated to San José. It was in this church, dedicated to Jesus’ adoptive father, that Bergoglio attended mass and had his earliest Christian experiences. It was in this parish and under St. Joseph’s protection that on 21 September 1953, Bergoglio met Fr. Carlos B. Duarte Ibarra at the age of (almost) 17. After going to him for confession, he discovered his priestly vocation. Francis’ pontificate is also under St. Joseph’s protection, having been solemnly inaugurated on 19 March 2013.“Let us never forget that authentic power is service, and that the Pope too, when exercising power, must enter ever more fully into that service which has its radiant culmination on the Cross. He must be inspired by the lowly, concrete and faithful service which marked Saint Joseph and, like him, he must open his arms to protect all of God’s people and embrace with tender affection the whole of humanity, especially the poorest, the weakest, the least important, those whom Matthew lists in the final judgment on love: the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick and those in prison. Only those who serve with love are able to protect!” Pope Francis said in his homily on the Solemnity of St. Joseph. On 5 July 2013 the Pope consecrated the whole of the Vatican City State to St. Joseph and St. Michael the Archangel, whom the Governorate had previously chosen as its own patron saint. The wooden statuette of St. Joseph which is by Francis’ room in St. Martha’s House is about forty  centimeters long and depicts the saint dressed in gold-trimmed dark green and red garments, typical of Hispanic American iconography. Joseph is lying down and asleep, a positions which is symbolic of the Gospel: it is always in his sleep that Jesus’ adoptive father receives messages from heaven about Mary and which name the Child should take and warnings about the danger Herod represents, causing the flight into Egypt. Bergoglio had a similar statue in the room he occupied for eighteen years at the Colegio Máximo of San José in San Miguel where he was rector and where he also lived when he was Provincial Superior of the Society of Jesus. The statuette of the sleeping St. Joseoh which he kept in the Buenos Aires curia is one of the few things the Pope had sent over from Argentina after his election: the head came off during the journey to Italy but Bergoglio saw to it that it was fixed.“You know,” Francis told one of his collaborators in the first months after his election, “you have to be patient with these carpenters: they tell you they’ll have a piece of furniture finished in a couple of weeks and it ends up taking a month even. But they get the job done and they do it well! You just need to be patient…”Tenderness, silence, concealment, avoiding the spotlight and his vocation to protect: these are some of the qualities Francis appreciates in the saint. This is why although the Pope’s statuette depicts the patron saint sleeping, Francis makes him work a lot, often asking him for a helping hand.

MH370 Tragedy: MAS requests media not to expose amount of compensation
MAY 3,14-New Straits Times

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has requested the media not to expose the amount of compensation for the families of passengers affected by its missing Flight MH370 aircraft due to potential security threats. Its senior vice-president for strategic communication Datuk Najmuddin Abdullah in a statement here today, said apart from MAS, the family members had also made such request."Malaysia Airlines did not disclose any information pertaining to the amount of compensation as picked up by the media, and we believe this was acquired from other sources," he said. With this, MAS would like to seek media cooperation to withdraw all published articles which stated the amount of compensation for the families of the passengers. The amount of compensation, said Najmuddin, would be made known only to the family members and done personally by MAS caregivers, adding that it was important for the media to respect their safety and privacy. There were more than 1,000 family members under MAS' care and the airline's utmost priority was to assist them, he said.Flight MH370, with 227 passengers and 12 crew vanished en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, about an hour after taking off from the KL International Airport in Sepang on March 8. -- BERNAMA

MH370 Tragedy: Police have no plan to reveal findings of investigations now
MAY 3,14-New Straits Times

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have no plan to reveal the findings of their investigations on the disappearance of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 at this moment.Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said this included the investigations on possible hijack, sabotage, psychological aspect and personal problems faced by passengers and crew of the ill-fated flight. "As the investigations are still ongoing, we will not reveal the findings at any time now," he told a press conference after attending the PDRM-MEDIA shooting competition at the General Operations Force (PGA) shooting range in Cheras here today. Also present were his deputy Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin and Bukit Aman Police Logistics Department director Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah. Khalid said as at yesterday, the police had recorded 311 statements concerning the tragedy, including from the victims' family members. Flight MH370, with 239 people aboard, left the KL International Airport at 12.41 am on March 8 and disappeared from radar screens about an hour later while over the South China Sea. It was to have arrived in Beijing at 6.30 am on the same day.  A multinational search was mounted for the Boeing 777-200 aircraft, first in the South China Sea and then, after it was learnt that the plane had veered off course, in the southern Indian Ocean.  After an analysis of satellite data indicated that the plane's last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean, west of Perth, Australia, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced on March 24 that Flight MH370 "ended in the southern Indian Ocean".  -- BERNAMA

Ontario judge orders Lev Tahor infant released to mother from foster care-CTV Windsor: Lev Tahor mother reunited with infant-A Lev Tahor mother at the centre of child custody dispute has been reunited with her infant. Rich Garton was on hand for the reunion. The Canadian Press-Published Monday, April 28, 2014 7:34PM EDT

CHATHAM, Ont. - An Ontario judge has ordered an infant with an ultra-orthodox Jewish sect to be released from foster care and placed in the care of the baby's 17-year-old mother.Justice Paul Kowalyshyn ordered Chatham-Kent Children's Services to release the Lev Tahor child, who with the mother was taken into custody in Calgary after fleeing Ontario ahead of a child custody appeal hearing.Kowalyshyn banned the infant's father from seeing the child until further notice and told the mother there would be "very specific terms of supervision," though details were not released.A custody hearing for another six children placed in foster care after being stopped in Trinidad and Tobago and then sent back to Canada will take place next week.A Superior Court judge ruled earlier this month that 13 children who are part of the group do not have to be sent back to Quebec, where much of the community fled late last year amid a child protection case.Certain families in the community face unproven allegations of mistreatment, and child marriages.

Nigeria police: 276 abducted girls still missing
By HARUNA UMAR May 2, 2014 10:45 AM-YahooNews

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP) — The number of kidnapped schoolgirls missing in Nigeria has risen to 276, up by more than 30 from a previous estimate, police said, adding that the actual number abducted by Islamic extremists on April 14 was more than 300.Police Commissioner Tanko Lawan said the number of girls and young women who have escaped also has risen, to 53.He told a news conference Thursday night in Maiduguri, the northeastern capital of Borno state, that the figures keep increasing because students from other schools were brought into one school for final exams last month after all schools in Borno state were shut because of attacks by Islamic extremists. Communications are difficult with the military often cutting cell phone service under a state of emergency and travel made dangerous on roads frequently attacked by the militants."The students were drawn from schools in Izge, Lassa, Ashigashiya and Warabe A. and that is why, after the unfortunate incident, there were various numbers flying around as to the actual number of girls that were taken away," Lawan said.Hundreds of women protested in at least three cities this week to express their outrage that the girls have not been found. Two bombings in three weeks have also hit the nation's capital, Abuja.Reports this week indicated some have been forced into "marriage" with their extremist abductors, who paid a nominal bride price equivalent to $12. Other reports that also could not be verified said some have been taken across borders, to Chad, Cameroon and to an island in Lake Chad. The reports come from parents and legislators who are in touch with villagers who have seen the girls with their abductors. As the students, aged between 15 and 18, endure a third week of captivity President Goodluck Jonathan referred to them publicly for the first time at a May Day rally on Thursday. Jonathan, a southern Christian who has been accused of insensitivity to the plight of mainly Muslim residents of the northeast, vowed "we must find our missing girls" and "the perpetrators must be brought to book."He said "the cruel abduction of some innocent girls, our future mothers and leaders, in a very horrific and despicable situation in Borno state is quite regrettable.""We shall triumph over all this evil that wants to debase our humanity," he added.Girls who have escaped say their captors identified themselves as fighters in the Boko Haram terrorist network, though the extremists have not claimed responsibility for the abductions. Boko Haram — the name means "Western education is sinful" — believes Western influences have corrupted their society and only an Islamic state can restore purity to Africa's most populous nation of about 170 million people, divided almost equally between Muslims and Christians.---Associated Press writer Michelle Faul contributed to this report from Lagos, Nigeria.

Schools in Nigeria capital closing for security
By MICHELLE FAUL 7 hours ago-MAY 3,14-YahooNews

LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — All schools and government offices in Nigeria's capital will close during a three-day international conference next week, according to a presidential order that follows two bomb attacks in three weeks that killed nearly 100 people in Abuja.A statement Friday night said the measure "is to ease the flow of traffic" during the May 7-9 World Economic Forum on Africa to which hundreds of international personalities, business and African leaders are invited. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang is the guest of honor. The government has said it is deploying 6,000 police and troops to help secure the event, and President Goodluck Jonathan has assured delegates they will be safe.Further indicating Nigeria's security threats, the U.S. Embassy warned Americans in an email Friday that extremists were planning "an unspecified attack" on a Sheraton hotel in Nigeria's commercial capital, Lagos. The hotel chain has two locally owned franchises in the southwestern city of about 20 million people. A duty manager at the $350-a-night Sheraton in Ikeja suburb, near the international airport, said he was unaware of any threat. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to reporters.Explosions on April 14 and May 1 in Abuja, in the center of the country, are blamed on the Islamic extremists Boko Haram terrorist network that has targeted schools and slaughtered hundreds of students. Militants of Boko Haram — the nickname means "Western education is sinful" — are holding some 276 teenage girls abducted from a northeastern school April 15.In response to national outrage and protests at the failure to rescue the girls, Jonathan on Friday announced a that presidential committee headed by a retired general will mobilize people in the area of the mass abduction and other citizens "for a rescue strategy and operation" and to "articulate a framework for a multi-stakeholder action for the rescue of the missing girls."Unverified reports this week that the militants are demanding ransoms for their release coincided with stories that some of the girls and young women — they are aged 15 to 18 — have been forced to "marry" their extremist abductors and some have been carried across borders into Chad and Cameroon. The attacks and the prolonged captivity of the girls have gravely undermined confidence in Jonathan and his government as Nigeria prepares for February 2015 elections.Nigeria is fighting a 5-year-old Islamic uprising by extremists whose stronghold is in the remote northeast but who are threatening attacks across Africa's biggest oil producer.

11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.(WORLD TERRORISM,MURDERS)(HAMAS IN HEBREW IS VIOLENCE)
12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence (TERRORISM)(HAMAS) through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

HOSEA 4:1-3
1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.
3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

MATTHEW 7:24-27
24  Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26  And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

NUMBERS 16:30-32
30  But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.
31  And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:
32  And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.

NUMBERS 26:10
10  And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men: and they became a sign.

ISAIAH 28:18-19
18  And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
19  The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.

LUKE 21:11
11  And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

Afghan landslide rescue now focuses on displaced-By Mirwais Harooni and Jeremy Laurence 15 minutes ago-MAY 3,14-YahooNews-Thousands dead in Afghan landslide

KABUL (Reuters) - Afghan officials gave up hope on Saturday of finding any survivors from a landslide in the remote northeast, with the number killed or missing put at between a few hundred and as many as 2,700.The United Nations said the focus now was on helping more than 4,000 displaced people. International  organizations and Afghan officials said at least 300 mud brick homes were buried on Friday, but precise information on the number killed was hard to come by in the impoverished province bordering Tajikistan. The U.N. mission in Afghanistan said more than 350 people were killed, but a spokesman for the local governor put the number in excess of 2,100. The Geneva-based International Organization for Migration (IOM) said 2,700 were dead or missing."The scale of this landslide is absolutely devastating, with an entire village practically wiped away," IOM Afghanistan Chief of Mission Richard Danziger said. "Hundreds of families have lost everything and are in immense need of assistance."The United Nations said the focus was now on the more than 4,000 people displaced, either directly as a result of the landslide or as a precautionary measure from villages assessed to be at risk. The IOM said over 14,000 people were affected.Their main needs are water, medicine, food and emergency shelter, said Ari Gaitanis, a spokesman from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan.Officials expressed concern the unstable hillside above the site of the disaster may cave in again, threatening the homeless as well as the U.N. and local rescue teams working there.Villagers and a few dozen police, equipped with only basic digging tools, resumed their search when daylight broke but it soon became clear there was no hope of finding survivors buried in the deep mud and rubble."Seven members of my family were here, four or five of them were killed ... I am also half alive, what can I do?" said an elderly woman, her hair covered in a pink shawl.Dotted with villages of mud-brick homes nestled in valleys beside bare slopes, Badakhshan province has been hit by several deadly landslides in recent years.

PLEA FOR HELP

The side of the mountain above Abi-Barak collapsed at around 11 a.m. (0630 GMT) on Friday as people were trying to recover belongings and livestock after a smaller landslip hit a few hours earlier.Hundreds of homes were destroyed in the landslides that were triggered by torrential rain. Officials worry another section of the mountainside could collapse at any time. The Afghan military flew rescue teams to the area on Saturday, as the remote mountain region is served by only narrow, poor roads which have themselves been damaged by more than a week of heavy rain."We have managed to get one excavator into the area, but digging looks hopeless," Colonel Abdul Qadeer Sayad, a deputy police chief of Badakhshan, told Reuters. He said the sheer size of the area affected, and the depth of the mud, meant that only modern machinery could help.NATO-led coalition troops are on standby to assist but on Saturday said the Afghan government had not asked for help."I call on the government to come and help our people, to take the bodies out," said a middle-aged man, standing on a hill overlooking the river of mud where his village once stood."We managed to take out only 10-15 people, the rest of our villagers here are trapped."

FREEZING

Hundreds of people camped out overnight in near freezing conditions, although some were given tents. Officials distributed food and water.Seasonal rains and spring snow melt have caused devastation across large swathes of northern Afghanistan, killing more than 100 people before this latest disaster.U.S. President Barack Obama said American forces were on standby to help. About 30,000 U.S. soldiers remain in Afghanistan, although that number is falling as Washington prepares to withdraw all combat troops who battled Taliban insurgents by the end of this year.Police said they had provided a security ring around the area, which has been relatively free of insurgent attacks. The Taliban said they were also willing to provide security.(Additional reporting by Hamid Shalizi; Writing by Jeremy Laurence; Editing by Robert Birsel and Stephen Powell)

S. Korea Ferry Incident: 8 more bodies recovered, death toll rises to 236
MAY 3,14-New Straits Times

SEOUL: Eight more bodies were recovered Saturday from the ferry that sank off South Korea last month, officials said, amid concern that some of the missing may never be found.
Seventeen days after the 6,825-tonne Sewol capsized and sank, 236 people  have been confirmed dead with 66 still unaccounted for, a government  anti-disaster headquarters said in a press statement.“Eight more bodies were retrieved today as rescuers successfully got access  to the fourth floor near the bow”, it said.Earlier Saturday, the search had been suspended due to fast currents and  high waves whipped up by gusty winds, according to a coastguard spokesman.       Dive teams have been working in challenging and sometimes hazardous  conditions. They have to grope their way down guiding ropes to the sunken ship, laying on its side on the seabed at a depth of 40 metres (132 feet). They have to struggle through narrow passageways and rooms littered with floating debris in silty water.Park Seung-Ki, spokesman for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, said  bedding materials from the ship were found as far as 30 kilometres (around 20  miles) from the disaster site on Friday. As days go by, personal belongings and debris from the ship have been  spotted further and further away, fuelling concerns that strong currents may  have swept some bodies into the open sea.One body was retrieved Friday by a fishing vessel four kilometres away from  the recovery site, and another was found two kilometres away on Wednesday. As a precaution, recovery workers put rings of netting around the site days  ago.The relatives of those still missing are insisting that all the bodies be  recovered before efforts begin to raise the sunken ferry. The Sewol capsized on April 16 with 476 people on board — more than 300 of  them from the same Danwon High School in Ansan city, just south of Seoul. It is one of South Korea’s worst peacetime disasters but public anger and  frustration has been amplified due to greed and irresponsibility being blamed  for the poor handling of the catastrophe. The captain and 14 of his crew have been arrested for being the first to  leave the ship without helping all passengers to safety. The Sewol’s regular captain, who was off duty on the day of the accident,  has told prosecutors that the ferry operator — Chonghaejin Marine Co — “brushed aside” repeated warnings that the 20-year-old ship had stability  issues following a renovation in 2012.Two Chonghaejin officials were arrested on Friday on charges of having the  ferry overloaded well beyond its legal limit. The ferry owners have also become the focus of an ever-widening probe. The government has come under strong criticism over the initially slow  rescue response as well as lax safety standards and collusion between industry  and regulators, which were partly blamed for the scale of the disaster. --   AFP
