Bennett to PM after killings: Think again about freeing prisoners

Israel agreed to the release of 104 long-term Palestinian security convicts for peace talks, but Jewish Home leader says two murders call that move into question

September 22, 2013, 10:33 pm 3-The Times of Israel
Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz called Hazan’s murder a “painful reminder that Palestinian terrorism has not disappeared.”Earlier on Sunday, MK Avigdor Liberman said the killing of Hazan, and a lack of condemnation from Ramallah, proved the Palestinians were not serious about peace.MK Orit Strock (Jewish Home), who lives in Hebron not far from where Sunday’s shooting took place, told reporters that she and guests celebrating the Sukkot holiday at her home heard the gunfire, and rushed to the scene.
“Just as this terrorist wanted to eliminate Jewish presence from here,” Strock said, “it is clear to me that the Jewish people will choose to come here tomorrow and strengthen the Jewish community in Hebron.”
The shooting occured as hundreds of religious Jews were visiting the site, which is holy to Jews and Muslims as the burial place of the Biblical patriarchs and matriarchs.Adiv Sterman contributed to this report.

Ashton condemns shooting of IDF soldier in Hebron

EU foreign policy chief urges Israelis and Palestinians to refrain from actions that could undermine peace process

September 23, 2013, 1:03 am 1-The Times of Israel
European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton condemned the killing of Israeli soldier Gabriel Kobi by a Palestinian sniper in Hebron on Sunday, and called for “maximum restraint” on both sides. In a statement released Sunday evening, Ashton denounced the incident ”in the strongest terms,” and said the killing “comes in the wake of several worrying incidents in the West Bank.”“The EU regrets the loss of life, urges for maximum restraint and reiterates its call to all parties to refrain from actions that could undermine the negotiation process and the prospects of peace,” she said.Kobi, 20, was pronounced dead after being shot in the neck near Hebron’s Tomb of the Patriarchs.Magen David Adom rescue teams that arrived at the scene provided emergency assistance to Kobi, who was initially reported to be in critical condition after being shot in the neck. He was hit by a single bullet.

According to Channel 2 News, IDF officials estimate that the attack was carried out by a Palestinian terrorist from one of the nearby neighborhoods in the city.IDF soldiers imposed a curfew on Palestinians in Hebron and began searching the area for the perpetrator of the attack.Palestinian sources reported violent clashes between IDF troops and local Palestinian residents in the wake of the shooting. Several Palestinians were detained by the IDF, Israel Radio reported.According to unverified reports, Fatah’s Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade claimed responsibility for the attack, the radio report said.On Sunday, Robert Serry, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, condemned the killing Friday of Sgt. Tomer Hazan.
Hazan’s body was found in a village near Qalqilya Saturday, a day after he was lured to the West Bank by a Palestinian co-worker, kidnapped and killed.Nidal Amar was arrested and confessed to killing Hazan, the Shin Bet security service said.Serry said the “shocking murder” was the latest in a series of violent incidents in the West Bank.He called for calm on both sides, which he said was “all the more important at this critical moment in the political process.”

Netanyahu: Resettle Beit Hamachpela in Hevron

"Whoever tries to uproot us from the city of our forefathers will achieve the opposite," says Prime Minister after Hevron sniper attack.-By Elad Benari-First Publish: 9/23/2013, 1:10 AM-INNEWS

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu ordered on Sunday night that steps be taken immediately to resettle the Beit Hamachpela in Hevron, following the terror attack in which an IDF soldier was murdered by Palestinian Authority Arab snipers."Whoever tries to uproot us from the city of our forefathers will achieve the opposite,” Netanyanu declared. “We will continue to fight terrorism and hit the terrorists with one hand, and we will continue to strengthen the settlement enterprise with the other hand.”Earlier Sunday evening, Economy Minister Naftali Bennett asked cabinet secretary Avichai Mandelblitt to immediately approve the entry of Jews into Beit Hamachpela, saying, "We know how to build and settle. Not to kill. This would be the appropriate Zionist answer [to the terrorism].”Beit Hamachpela in Hevron is a home that was purchased last year from an Arab  by 15 Jewish families. The families moved in soon after the sale, fearing the building – uninhabited – would be occupied by local Arabs before the Civil Administration validated their purchase.
In August of 2012, then Defense Minister Ehud Barak ordered the removal of the residents who purchased the building despite a request by Netanyahu to allow a court to determine the course of events. The military appeals court has since accepted the appeal of the Jews who bought the property, ruling that the purchase was made according to law. Following the ruling, MKs urged the government to allow the Jews to return to the home.

A Tennessee pastor says he didn't intend to start a controversy when he put a message on his church's marquee last weekend that said, "Jesus had two dads and he turned out just fine."Many people have interpreted the message, which refers to God and Joseph, to be a statement about gay and lesbian parents. But Bill Campbell, pastor of St. John's United Methodist Church in Nashville, told CP that wasn't his intention."For me it was a very simple statement affirming families and children who are in situations where they have multiple parents or there's a divorce or a death, where there's family strain, that type of thing, to affirm that they are daughters and sons of God, and using the example of Jesus in that regard," he said.
Campbell says he saw a sign with the same message on the Internet and decided to put it up on the St. John's marquee at the end of a church yard sale on Saturday. By Monday he was giving interviews to local news media.Despite Campbell's intentions, the sign has sparked a debate among some social media users.
"As a gay and, frankly, former-Christian man... thank you for standing up for what love, and love of family, truly means," said one person, who also indicated he and his partner were in the process of adopting a child, on St. John's Facebook page."Now if you're teaching that Yeshua loves all people then yes he does," stated another Facebook user. "However if you read the Word of God it clearly states that homosexuality is a sin. Now you can be like other churches and pick out which scriptures you want to use and believe but I believe in the Whole Word not just bits and pieces."The UMC does not ordain "self-avowed practicing homosexuals" and forbids its elders from officiate same-sex marriages, though these issues have been debated in the denomination for years. The denomination has affirmed, however, that it will minister to all people and that its churches should "not to reject or condemn lesbian and gay members and friends."
Campbell says he is "disturbed" by how some people have reacted to the sign, and says many people are making assumptions and are unwilling to ask any questions. People today take sides on an issue, he says, and are focused more on tearing each other down than they are in engaging in a reasonable dialogue.
"It's provoked some conversation and that's, I think, part of the best outcome, is that we began to have some conversation and learn from a different perspective. Whether we agree or disagree is not the issue," he said.
A photo of the same message on the marquee of an Anglican church in Ontario, Canada, recently went viral on the Internet, garnering more than 1.5 million views in just three weeks.

PSALMS 14:1
1  To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

ROMANS 1:18-32
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:(HOMOSEXUALITY,AND ALL SEX SINS)
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:(LESBIENS)
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly,(SODOMITES) and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.(AIDS ETC)
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

County clerks on front lines of U.S. gay marriage battle

(Reuters) - For weeks, the lesbian couple courted the Guilford County register of deeds in North Carolina before asking for a marriage license. They went for coffee, shared life stories and, finally, prayed with him in a big circle on the grass outside his office. Then they followed Jeffrey Thigpen inside, where he denied them and another lesbian couple a license, in line with the state's 2012 constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. It was a wrenching moment for both sides."I think deep down in his heart he knew that he should have been giving us a license but he couldn't do it," said Tracey Bridges, a software trainer who had applied with her partner, Cheryl. "This law doesn't just hurt couples like us, it hurts people who have to enforce the law.""It was very difficult emotionally," said Thigpen, who says he supports gay marriage. "I left work. It was a tough day."The meeting this week between Thigpen and the lesbian couples came as county clerks have been thrust to the forefront of the U.S. battle over gay marriage after two local officials from New Mexico and Pennsylvania this summer began unilaterally issuing wedding licenses to same-sex couples.Taking advantage of a lack of legal clarity over gay marriage in New Mexico, a county clerk there began issuing same-sex marriage licenses that have so far been allowed to stand. In Pennsylvania, a county register of wills handed out the licenses to gay and lesbian couples despite a state law banning same-sex marriage, before a judge ordered him to stop. Some proponents of gay marriage have celebrated those high profile moves, saying they add momentum to the fight to allow same-sex nuptials in places outside the 13 U.S. states that allow it. Opponents see them as trying to make an end-run around the law.Lynn Ellins, the county clerk in southern New Mexico's Doña Ana County who began issuing licenses to gay and lesbian couples in August, said he believes clerks in states without laws allowing gay marriage will soon do the same thing."I wouldn't be surprised if other clerks bit the bullet," Ellins said in a telephone interview. "I can't be the only one out there thinking the way I'm thinking. The Democrat makes that prediction even though he was sued by several Republican state lawmakers seeking to roll back his action, and was forced to raise more than $31,000 in private donations to defend against the lawsuit.Since Ellins began issuing the licenses, officials in seven other New Mexico counties have begun doing the same thing. Those include the state's most populous county of Bernalillo, which started issuing licenses after a district judge found denying gay couples the right to marry violated the state constitution.Gay marriage opponents are paying keen attention to the actions of county clerks."What happened both in New Mexico and Pennsylvania was utter lawlessness. You had two county clerks who felt they were above or outside the law," said Chris Plante, spokesman for the National Organization for Marriage.
MORE OUT THERE?
Plante said he was concerned that New Mexico's Republican governor did not go to court to seek to block Ellins from issuing licenses. In Pennsylvania, the governor's administration won a court order to stop the Montgomery County register of wills from doing so."What's going to convince another county clerk in another state to either uphold the law or violate the law is going to be their own perception of what happens," Plante said.A 1996 Pennsylvania law defines marriage as between a man and a woman. However, New Mexico is one of two states - New Jersey is the other - that do not explicitly ban gay marriage and do not allow it statewide.County clerks in New Mexico have asked the state Supreme Court to decide whether same sex marriage should be allowed across the state. A hearing is scheduled for next month.Twenty-nine states have constitutional amendments defining marriage as between a man and a woman while six others including Illinois, Indiana and Hawaii have laws that do so, said Jack Tweedie, director of the children and families program for the National Conference of State Legislatures.New Jersey's gender-neutral laws on marriage appear to provide wiggle room for action by clerks, he said, but gay rights groups are working to win the legal right to same-sex marriage there.Public support for gay marriage has been growing, with a July Gallup poll showing 52 percent of Americans would like to see it legalized throughout the country. That support is weakest in the South, where Cheryl and Tracey Bridges live. They asked Thigpen for a marriage license this week in a North Carolina action organized by grassroots group Campaign for Southern Equality.
The group is seeking to find a single official in the South who will issue a same-sex marriage license in defiance of state laws or constitutions.Since 2011, the gay rights organization has sent more 80 gay and lesbian couples to seek marriage licenses in the South or have their out-of-state same-sex marriage recognized in their home states, organizers said. All have been denied. The campaign also has sent more than 600 letters urging local officials across the South to grant same-sex couples wedding licenses, citing the actions of their counterparts in New Mexico and Pennsylvania, said Jasmine Beach-Ferrara, the group's executive director. For the Bridges, who have been together 12 years and legally took the same last name but are not married, the denial in North Carolina followed weeks of getting to know Thigpen, the clerk.
They went for coffee and told Thigpen about Cheryl's battle with breast cancer, and their concern about being able to make decisions for each other at a hospital."His staff says it's hard on Jeff," Cheryl Bridges, a Quaker minister, said last week.In joining with the two lesbian couples and dozens of their supporters for prayer outside his offices on Monday, Thigpen was seeking reconciliation, he later said in a phone interview.
"I did pray for them and in that prayer I prayed for people on every side of this issue, that we all can move through this eventually and focus on issues that unite us rather than divide us," Thigpen said.(Additional reporting by Dave Warner in Philadelphia and Zelie Pollon in Santa Fe; Editing by Cynthia Johnston and Doina Chiacu)

Catholics react to pope remarks on gays, abortion

NEW YORK (AP) — Catholics around the globe are reacting mostly positively to Pope Francis' recent remarks that the church has become too focused on "small-minded rules" on hot-button issues like homosexuality, abortion and contraceptives. At Masses over the weekend, the faithful reflected on how they believe Francis' comments will impact the Catholic Church. The pope said Thursday that pastors should focus less on divisive social issues and should emphasize compassion over condemnation.Marilyn White, 73, who worshipped Sunday at New York City's famous St. Patrick's Cathedral, welcomed the pope's words.
"I think he sent a good message," White said. "I think he's opening a way for people to communicate, dialogue and maybe come back to the church."New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan told reporters after Mass that Francis "speaks like Jesus" and is a "breath of fresh air."Outside a church in Coral Gables, Fla., Frank Recio said he was grateful that the pope is trying to shift the tone of the church."I'm a devout Catholic, always have been. I think the Catholic Church had gotten out of touch with the way the world was evolving," said Recio, 69, who's retired from a career in the technology industry. He said he was glad about the way the pope discussed abortion. Recio believes life begins at conception but also supports a woman's right to choose. He also said he'd support changes like allowing priests to marry. "It's a natural state in life, for men and women to have a partner," said Recio.Irene Delgado, a practicing Catholic in Havana, Cuba, said the church needs to adapt to modern times."The world evolves, and I believe that the Catholic Church is seeing that it is being left behind, and that is not good," said Delgado, 57. "So I think that they chose this Pope Francis because he is progressive, has to change things."She added: "And I am sure the church is going to do it because the church always knows how to adapt to all eras of history."In Boston, Evelyn Martinez, 26, said she agrees with Francis that compassion should be one of the church's main priorities."I don't believe that someone's sexuality should keep them away from any religion," said Martinez, a graduate student at Emerson College who attended Mass on Saturday night. In the Philippines, Asia's largest predominantly Catholic nation, Manila businesswoman Ching Domasian said Sunday that the church needs to constantly advocate against abortion and homosexuality, but she appreciates the pope's outreach.A day after Francis' comments signaling a dramatic shift in Vatican tone, he appeared to offer an olive branch to the more conservative wing of the church by denouncing abortions and stressing the need to defend the rights of the unborn.Recio said he was glad the pope spoke about abortion Friday, though he personally believes in a woman's right to choose.
Jose Baltazar, a 74-year-old vice president of an insurance company and longtime church volunteer in Manila, said the pope has set his priorities mindful of stark realities."We have to give priority in working to bring those who have gone astray back to the fold," Baltazar said. "We pray for them. Why did they go astray? What's our shortcoming? What's the shortcoming of the Catholic Church?"___Associated Press writers Rodrique Ngowi in Boston; Anne-Marie Garcia in Havana, Cuba; and Jim Gomez in Manila, Philippines, contributed to this report.

According to a Kenyan security source, Israeli forces entered the mall, where a siege has been ongoing since Saturday, and “are rescuing the hostages and injured,” AFP reported. However, an unnamed security source told Reuters that Israeli advisers were helping in negotiations, but not in operations.“There are Israeli advisers helping with the negotiating strategy, but no Israelis involved in any imminent storming operation,” the Israeli source said.Kenyan officials say 59 people have been killed and 175 injured in the coordinated terror attack, carried out by a group of up to 15 terrorists aligned with the Islamic Somali al-Shabab movement. The attack began on Saturday, when witnesses said at least five gunmen — including at least one woman — first attacked an outdoor cafe at Westgate Mall, a shiny, new shopping center that hosts Nike, Adidas and Bose stores. The mall’s ownership is Israeli, and security experts have long said the structure made an attractive terrorist target.Over 1,000 people have been evacuated or have fled from the mall, officials said, and the terrorists remained inside with an unknown number of hostages in an ongoing siege.President Shimon Peres, in a Sunday letter to Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, said, ”I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the people of Kenya on the horrific terror attack in Nairobi. From the Holy Land we pray for the release of the hostages, the full recovery of the injured, and comfort for the families of the victims.“Terrorism is a global threat and those who perpetrate it make no distinction between young and old, men and women,” Peres wrote. “There is no justification for the murder of innocent civilians and Israel stands shoulder to shoulder with the Kenyan government and people at this difficult time. We in Israel know the pain of terror and will do whatever we can to support the people of Kenya.”Kenyatta said Saturday that he had lost “very close family members” in the attack carried out by “despicable perpetrators.”In August, Mossad agents, along with officials from the FBI, aided in investigating whether a massive fire at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was a terrorist attack. According to foreign media reports, the Mossad runs an outpost in Nairobi, tasked with maintaining security ties with Kenya and other East African nations. In 2002, terrorists in Mombasa blew up an Israeli-owned hotel and unsuccessfully tried to shoot down an Israeli passenger plane as it was taking off.Joshua Davidovich contributed to this report.

Kenyan security forces said Sunday night that most of the hostages being held by Al-Shabaab terrorists in a shopping mall in the capital Nairobi have been rescued, Al Jazeera reports. The terrorists belonging to the Somali group stormed the Westgate shopping center on Saturday using grenades and assault rifles. The attack has left at least 68 people dead and more than 150 wounded, according to the Red Cross.
Gunfire and an explosion were heard from the shopping center after dark on Sunday, as security forces intensified efforts to end the standoff amid fears that the death toll could rise sharply following the discovery of more corpses by security men inside the building.Col. Cyrus Oguna, a military spokesman, told Al Jazeera that most of the hostages had been released, though he did not provide an exact number.
"Most of them were dehydrated and suffering from shock," Oguna said, adding that four Kenyan soldiers were injured in the rescue operation.Kenya's Disaster Operation Center said "this will end tonight. Our forces will prevail." Security forces also said that most parts of the mall had also been secured, according to Al Jazeera.Meanwhile, Al-Shabaab, which has claimed responsibility for the siege, said on its Twitter feed that the "Kenyan government shall be held responsible for any loss of life as a result of such an imprudent move. The call is yours!"It added, "Kenyan forces who’ve just attempted a roof landing must know that they are jeopardizing the lives of hostages."Speaking to Al Jazeera later, Abu Omar, a spokesman, for the group, ruled out any negotiations over the hostages being held and said they would meet their fate.Al-Shabaab confirmed to Al Jazeera that it carried out the attack in which its terrorists specifically targeted non-Muslims. Kenyans and foreigners were among those confirmed dead, including French, Britons, Indians, Canadians, Chinese and a renowned Ghanaian poet. One Israeli, who operates a stand selling Dead Sea products in the Westgate mall where the attack took place, was reportedly slightly wounded. Three other Israelis reportedly escaped the mall unharmed. One of the Israelis who got caught up in the attack, Yariv Keidar, described on Sunday his experience during the attack, and explained how he survived as others around him were gunned down. One report on Sunday said that Israeli security forces have joined their Kenyan counterparts in the fight to rescue the hostages in the mall.An Israeli foreign ministry spokesperson would neither confirm nor deny the reports.

Suicide bomb attack on Pakistani church kills dozens

Peshawar - the scene of the attack

Two suicide bombers attacked a Church in Peshawar during a mass celebration Sunday, leaving at least 60 dead and more than 120 wounded

vatican insider rome The death toll caused by the double suicide bomb attack on a church in the north-western Pakistani city of Peshawar has risen to 60 with more than 120 people wounded, a spokesman for Lady Reading hospital in Peshawar reports. The attack took place during Sunday mass. As always happens in such cases these figures are only provisional.Extremist Sunni group Jundullah which has links to the Pakistani Taleban, has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Christian church in Peshawar. Ahmad Marwat, who presented himself as the group’s spokesman, announced that attacks against non-Muslims will continue until the U.S. stop their drone attacks on the country’s tribal regions. The latest of these attacks took place a few hours ago in Waziristan in northern Pakistan, where six militants were apparently killed. “All non-Muslims in Pakistan are our target, and they will remain our target as long as America fails to stop drone strikes in our country,” Marwart told Associated Press in a telephone statement. Jundullah had previously claimed responsibility for attacks on Shiite Muslims in he province of Baluchistan.“Most of the people wounded in the attack are in a critical condition,” a hospital source said. Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned the attack. In a communiqué sent to the press, he said “terrorists have no religion and targeting innocent people is against the teachings of Islam and all religions.” “Such cruel acts reflect the brutality, inhumane mind set of the terrorists,” Sharif added.Shahid Mobeen, professor of Islamic thought and religion at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Pontifical Lateran University and leaders of Pakistani Christians living in Italy are not convinced by this. “Words are not enough.” He told Vatican Insider. “Concrete security measures need to be taken and they must be respected.”Today’s suicide bombing is the most serious attack against Pakistani Christians to date. The President of the Pakistan Minorities Alliance (PMA), Paul Bhatti also condemned the attack saying it was an attempt to “destabilise the country”.The former Pakistani Minorities Minister pointed the finger at foreign powers, claiming they were behind the attack. He accused the government of not guaranteeing religious minorities sufficient protection. Two suicide bombers managed to get inside the high security red zone undeterred. Paul Bhatti, who studied medicine in Italy, is the brother of Shahbbaz Bhatti, the former Catholic minister who was killed in 2011 for speaking out against the controversial blasphemy law and the death sentence given to Asia Bibi, a Pakistani Christian. The PMA has announced a seven-day mourning period to show its support to the families of the 60 victims who died in today’s attack. The Apostolic Nuncio to Pakistan, Mgr. Edgar Pena Parra also commented on the attack in a statement to Vatican Radio: “I ask for people to spare a thought for our Church in Pakistan” and for the “Christian community” which has yet again become a target for “attacks and discrimination”. “We have learnt about the sad news of this attack on a church, All Saints Church in Peshawar. Naturally we are deeply saddened by the fact that our Christian community has been attacked again. The church that was attacked is not a Catholic church as far as I know but it has close ties with our Catholic Church. But this is of no importance; they are Christians and form part of our minority. This is yet another case of suffering inflicted upon our Christian Church in Pakistan.”

Pope Francis and the Jews: the first six months

Rabbi David Rosen
Rabbi David Rosen

“There has never been a Pope with as deep an understanding of Jews as Pope Francis” states AJC’s Rabbi David Rosen. “The Jewish response has been remarkably warm.” Rome’s Chief Rabbi Riccardo Di Segni: “an astounding capacity for communication”

LISA PALMIERI-BILLIG ROME Ever since the Second Vatican Council brought to the forefront of the Catholic conscience its ineradicable fraternal relationship with Judaism and the Jewish People, each subsequent papacy has nourished this awareness with words and deeds.John XXIII was the driving force behind the creation of a Vatican II “document on the Jews” that evolved into much wider interreligious and ecumenic application, “Nostra Aetate”. As Papal Nuncio in France, Bulgaria and Greece, Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli had experienced the horrors of the Shoah and acted to save Jewish lives.  His historic encounter in 1960 with the Jewish historian and Holocaust survivor, Jules Isaac – who presented John XXIII with his manuscript on “The teaching of contempt: Christian roots of anti-Semitism” – strongly reinforced the Pope’s determination to cancel the infamous accusation of “deicide” and by a new focus on the brotherly roots of the two religions, permanently change the course of Catholic-Jewish relations.  “Nostra Aetate” was the outcome and has become the premise for all subsequent steps towards reconciliation.Mutual respect for the other’s religious identity has – though sometimes with difficulties – been maintained as a cornerstone for this evolving history.  The Church’s attempts to convert Jews in past centuries, with repeated recourse to humiliation, brute force and persecution throughout Europe, were permanently overturned by this new document. In barely a half year into his papacy, Pope Jorge Maria Bergoglio has already won the hearts and minds of many skeptical Jewish religious leaders.Dr. Riccardo Di Segni, the Chief Rabbi of Rome known for his very cautious attitude toward interreligious dialogue and his insistence on mutually recognized limits, said, “This Pontiff does not cease to surprise.” He noted that while Francis’ words are not new but, rather, inherent to Christianity as confirmed by Vatican II, “It is the force with which he expresses them and his capacity of communicating them that is astounding.”He was referring to an article written by the Pope in which Francis declared that “since the Second Vatican Council we have rediscovered that the Jewish People are still for us the holy root that produced Jesus”.  He also stated that despite the horrors inflicted on the Jewish People by the Shoah, “God never abandoned his covenant with Israel, and notwithstanding their terrible suffering over the centuries, the Jewish People have kept their faith.  For this, we will never be sufficiently grateful to them as a Church, but also as human beings. In the persistence of their faith in the God of the Covenant, they summon all, including us as Christians, to recall the fact that we are awaiting the return of the Lord as pilgrims, and must therefore always remain open to Him and never retreat from what we have already achieved.”During his first official meeting with Jewish leaders represented by a delegation of the International Jewish Committee for Interreligious Consultations (IJCIC) last July, Francis said, “Because of our common roots, a true Christian cannot be anti-Semitic.”In keeping with his informal, iconoclastic style, the Pope walked in, unannounced, causing a stir among the delegates milling around the room.  Rabbi Noam Marans, the American Jewish Committee’s director for Interreligious Relations in the U.S., later summed up the general reaction. “Pope Francis is unassuming, unscripted, warm.  It is a religious experience to be in his presence”.

INTERVIEW WITH RABBI DAVID ROSEN:
An in-depth conversation with Rabbi David Rosen, AJC’s International Director of Interreligious Affairs, reveals the essential traits of Pope Francis that are winning worldwide Jewish support and hopes for what the future could bring.“There has never been a Pope with as deep an understanding of Jews as Pope Francis” states Rabbi Rosen candidly.  “Of course Pope John Paul II had a unique childhood experience of the Jewish community in Wadowice.  But by the time he was a priest, there was little living community left to talk of, so his engagement was not as a developed adult.Francis, on the other hand, has not only nurtured lifelong friendships with the Jewish community in Buenos Aires, with whom he has had “a vibrant interaction”, says Rabbi Rosen, but has co-authored a book with an Argentinian rabbi, Abraham Skorka, “thus addressing issues face to face with Jewish self-understanding and experience.  This profoundly shapes his sensitivity and his commitment to the Jewish-Christian relationship.”Rabbi Rosen points to Pope Francis’ “remarkable capacity to communicate his profound humanity in simple and sincere gestures.Comparing the communicative genius of Pope Wojtyla with that of Pope Bergoglio, Rosen says, “John Paul II was a master of dramatic gestures but these were often novel and challenging. Francis’ brilliance”, he continues,  “lies precisely in his simplicity – which paradoxically has a dramatic impact and has endeared him to the world.”David Rosen notes that “the Jewish response has been remarkably warm.” “In substance”, says AJC’s Interreligious Director, “he is the self-same continuity of his predecessors.  However he has also built upon his predecessors in relation to the Jewish People.Benedict XVI was the first to invite Jews to attend his Papal installation and the Jewish presence at Francis’ inauguration was even more significant and extensive.“His public comments to the Jewish representatives at his inauguration, his letters to the Chief Rabbis of Rome and of Israel, his reference to Jewish historic commitment and triumph over persecution in his media interviews – all have deeply impressed Jews worldwide and in Israel that Pope Francis is a profoundly genuine friend of the Jewish People.Asked what he sees as the main avenues for a revitalized cooperation between Jews and Catholics now and in the future, Rabbi Rosen observes that while the major theological issues of the past have been mainly addressed, and although the discussion can never be exhausted, the Jewish side is now focused on practical things to be accomplished together. “Above all there is an enormous educational challenge” says Rabbi Rosen. “While the teaching of the Magisterium towards Jews, Judaism, and Israel are overwhelmingly positive, there are many parts of the Catholic world where pre-Conciliar attitudes still prevail and where anti-Judaism if not anti-Semitism is still to be found.  This is especially so in many parts of Latin America where, other than in the main cities of Argentina and Brazil, Jews often hardly feature at all on the ‘Catholic radar screen’.“Surely here a Latin American Pope can play a very special role and exert initiative.“Remarkably, the teaching of Nostra Aetate and of the Magisterium following on therefrom are not an obligatory part of the syllabus for the formation of priests everywhere.  Addressing this should be a minimal educational responsibility on the part of the Church to its own teachings – not to mention how Jesus and his contemporary Jewish brothers, followers and opponents are presented (or not presented) in sermons in many places especially at Easter time. The Church could do so much in educational terms.“There is of course a parallel challenge on the Jewish side, but it is not a symmetrical one and Jewish approach has and is changing in response. “However the onus is first and foremost on the Christian side. “Perhaps this is substantially a consequence of historical power, but the Church is the one here with the most terrible tragic record.  It is a record that still has to be addressed.  In truth, it has already been addressed, but the problem is that not everyone in the Church knows this yet! “Beyond this specific responsibility, we have already begun to work and dialogue together on common challenges of our times – social, scientific, environmental, etc., above all, concerning the sanctity of human life and combating dehumanization in its various forms.  Here there is unlimited scope to do more and more together for the benefit of humankind as a whole.”

MUSLIM NATIONS (SLAUGHTERED BY NUKES FOR COMING AGAINST ISRAEL)

EZEKIEL 38:1-12
1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog,(RULER) the land of Magog,(RUSSIA) the chief prince of Meshech(MOSCOW)and Tubal,(TOBOLSK) and prophesy against him,
3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog,(LEADER OF RUSSIA) the chief prince of Meshech(MOSCOW) and Tubal:TOBOLSK)
4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws,(GOD FORCES THE RUSSIA-MUSLIMS TO MARCH) and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
5 Persia,(IRAN,IRAQ) Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:
6 Gomer,(GERMANY) and all his bands; the house of Togarmah (TURKEY) of the north quarters, and all his bands:(SUDAN,AFRICA) and many people with thee.
7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.(RUSSIA-EGYPT AND MUSLIMS)
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages;(ISRAEL) I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
12 To take a spoil,(OIL IS IN SPOIL) and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.

EZEKIEL 39:1-8,11-18
1 Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog,(LEADER OF RUSSIA) and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech (MOSCOW) and Tubal: (TUBOLSK)
2 And I will turn thee back,(RUSSIA-ARAB MUSLIM ISRAEL HATERS) and leave but the sixth part of thee,(5/6TH OR 300 MILLION DEAD RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIMS I BELIEVE) and will cause thee to come up from the north parts,(RUSSIA) and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands,( ARABS) and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6 And I will send a fire on Magog,(NUCLEAR BOMB) and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
8 Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken.
11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog (RUSSIA/ARAB/MUSLIMS) a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers (EAST OF THE DEAD SEA IN JORDAN VALLEY) on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog (RUSSIAN) and all his multitude:(ARAB/MUSLIM HORDE) and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog.(BURIEL SITE OF THE 300 MILLION,RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIMS)
12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land.(OF ISRAEL)
13 Yea, all the people of the land (OF ISRAEL) shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I (GOD-JESUS) shall be glorified, saith the Lord GOD.
14 And they shall sever out men of continual employment,(NUCLEAR BOMB EXPERTS) passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search.
15 And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man’s bone, then shall he set up a sign by it,(WON'T TOUCH IT) till the buriers have buried it (PROPERLY) in the valley of Hamongog.(RUSSIA/ARAB/MUSLIMS NEW BURIEL SITE)
16 And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land.(OF THE ISRAEL-GOD HATERS)
17 And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl,(500 MILLION MIGRATING BIRDS THREW ISRAEL EVERY SPRING,FALL) and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.(OF THE RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIM ARMIES)
18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
19 And ye (MIGRATING BIRDS IN ISRAEL) shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.(RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIM ISRAEL HATERS)
20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.
21 And I (GOD-JESUS) will set my glory among the heathen,(WORLD NATIONS) and all the heathen (WORLD NATIONS) shall see my judgment that I have executed,(AGAINST ISRAELS ENEMIES) and my (GODS) hand that I have laid upon them.(ISRAELS HATER ENEMIES)

ISAIAH 19:1-5
1 The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it.
2 And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.
3 And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards.
4 And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts.

Iran, displaying new missiles, calls Israel a ‘regional threat’

Ahead of trip to UN General Assembly, Rouhani repeats Tehran will not seek nukes; projectiles on show can reach Israel, US bases

September 22, 2013, 8:55 pm 7-The Times of Israel
Speaking at a military parade to mark the anniversary of the Iran-Iraq war, the recently elected president also said that he seeks to resume talks with world powers to settle the standoff over Iran’s nuclear program.
Rouhani did not mention Israel by name at the military event — which displayed missiles capable of reaching Israel and US bases in the region — but the reference was clear.“A regime is a threat for the region that has trampled all international treaties regarding weapons of mass destruction,” he said, noting Israel’s undeclared but widely presumed nuclear arsenal. “No nation will accept war and diplomacy on (the same) table.”
Among the displayed weapons were 12 of the surface-to-surface Sajjil, a two-stage, solid-fuel ballistic missile that has a 2,000-km (1,200-mile) range. There were also Qadr-F and Qadr-H missiles, which have a similar range and are capable of carrying a “smart warhead” with “excessive explosive” power, according to the announcement in the parade.Shorter-range missiles in the parade included the Fajr-5, which Palestinian groups have used against Israeli targets in attacks from Hamas-controlled Gaza. The comments by Rouhani about nuclear talks do not break new ground — he has repeatedly urged the revival of the stalled talks with world powers since his election in June — but they take on added weight before his attending his first gathering with Western leaders.Rouhani has said he wants to use the sidelines of the UN agenda to win agreements on restarting the nuclear dialogue, whose last rounds in April ended without any significant progress. Rouhani has insisted on the same concessions from the West as before: easing sanctions as a first step in bargaining. But the important difference appears to be Rouhani’s backing from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who decides all Iran’s key policies and strategies. This potentially gives Rouhani’s government more room to offer proposals to the six-nation negotiating group, the permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany.Rouhani’s predecessor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad suffered a political meltdown over his attempts to challenge the supreme leader’s power, leaving his government severely weakened and potentially stymied at the nuclear talks.Rouhani and US President Barack Obama are both scheduled to attend the General Assembly’s annual meeting this week, setting up the possibility of the first exchange between American and Iranian leaders in more than three decades.“The Iranian nation is ready for negotiation and talks with the West,” Rouhani said at a military parade for the 33rd anniversary of Iraq’s 1980 invasion of Iran, which set off a ruinous eight-year war. The speech was carried live by state TV.
The president has promised to abandon the bombastic approach favored by Ahmadinejad, but continues to assert Tehran’s position that it has the right to conduct nuclear activities that the West fears could be a step toward weapons development, especially the enrichment of uranium. Iran says its program is peaceful, intended for purposes including research and cancer treatment, and enrichment is necessary for purposes including the fueling of reactors.“Iran has joined all treaties including the non-proliferation treaty, or NPT, and it is loyal to it,” Rouhani said. Khamenei also issued a religious decree nearly a decade ago declaring nuclear weapons as contrary to Islamic values. He added that if Western countries acknowledge Iran’s “rights” — a reference to uranium enrichment — it would be a path toward mutual “cooperation, logic, peace and friendship.”“Then we will be able to resolve regional, even global, problems,” he added.Iran and the United States are also at odds over the civil war in Syria. Tehran backs President Bashar Assad, while Washington supports rebels trying to oust him.Rouhani urged the West not to look at Syria and the region “through a policy of expanding war.” He repeated Iran’s call for the Syrian opposition and government to hold talks.
But Iran has faced a potential quandary over Western claims that Assad’s forces used chemical weapons in an attack last month. Iran has strongly opposed chemical arms since suffering attacks with mustard gas and other agents by Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein’s military in the 1980s.Rouhani also insisted that the US forswear a military strike against Iran’s nuclear program as a way to move ahead nuclear talks. It’s unlikely, though, that Washington would make such a declaration, which would risk a strong backlash from its key ally, Israel.

STORMS HURRICANES-TORNADOES

LUKE 21:25-26
25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity;(MASS CONFUSION) the sea and the waves roaring;(FIERCE WINDS)
26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear,(TORNADOES,HURRICANES,STORMS) and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth:(DESTRUCTION) for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.(FROM QUAKES,NUKES ETC)

THE FIRST JUDGEMENT OF THE EARTH STARTED WITH WATER-IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THE LAST GENERATION WILL BE HAVING FLOODING
GENESIS 7:6-12
6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
GOD PROMISED BY A RAINBOW-THE EARTH WOULD NEVER BE DESTROYED TOTALLY WITH A FLOOD AGAIN.BUT FLOODIING IS A SIGN OF JUDGEMENT.

Hong Kong braces for year's most powerful typhoon

HONG KONG (AP) — The year's most powerful typhoon was grinding closer to Hong Kong on Sunday, forcing hundreds of flights to be canceled and shutting down shipping after pummeling island communities in the Philippines and Taiwan with heavy rains and fierce winds.Typhoon Usagi was expected to make landfall just north of Hong Kong late Sunday or early Monday, with forecasters warning that it posed a "severe threat" to the southern Chinese city.Usagi — Japanese for rabbit — was classified as a severe typhoon, packing sustained winds of 175 kilometers (109 miles) per hour, with gusts of up to 213 kph (132 mph).
The storm was downgraded from a super typhoon on Saturday — when its sustained winds fell below 241 kilometers (150 miles) per hour — as it passed through the Luzon Strait separating the Philippines and Taiwan, likely sparing residents in both places from the most destructive winds near its eye.In the Philippines, Usagi left at least two people dead and two others missing, while in Taiwan nine people were hurt by falling trees on Kinmen island off China's coast.By late Sunday afternoon, the typhoon was about 210 kilometers (130 miles) east of Hong Kong, moving west at 20 kph (12 mph), the Hong Kong Observatory said.
It was expected to skirt Hong Kong about 100 kilometers (62 miles) to the north between Sunday night and Monday morning. The observatory said that by 7 p.m. local time it would raise the No. 8 storm warning signal, the third highest on a five-point scale, up from the current No. 3 standby signal. The typhoon wreaked havoc on flight schedules at airports in Hong Kong, nearby Macau and mainland China, upsetting travel plans for many passengers who were returning home at the end of the three-day mid-autumn festival long weekend.Hong Kong International Airport said 353 arriving and departing flights were canceled and another 67 delayed. Two of Hong Kong's biggest airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways and Dragonair, said flights to and from the city's airport would be canceled from 6 p.m. Sunday and resume Monday if conditions permit.
Major Chinese airlines also canceled flights to Hong Kong, Macau and cities in neighboring Guangdong and Fujian provinces, China's official Xinhua news agency reported.Fujian province suspended shipping between mainland China and Taiwan, Xinhua said. The Guangdong provincial government urged people to prepare for the storm, which was forecast to slam into the manufacturing heartland of the Pearl River Delta as it skirted Hong Kong.Guangdong authorities asked more than 44,000 fishing boats to return to port, while Fujian province evacuated thousands of people from low-lying coastal areas, Xinhua said.In Taiwan, more than 3,300 people were evacuated from flood-prone areas and mountainous regions. The storm also caused a landslide that buried a rail line on Taiwan's southeast coast, but rail services were restored by Sunday morning.Another landslide late Saturday at a village in the southeast sent mud and rocks crashing through the ground floor of a resort spa, forcing the evacuation of frightened guests. The Chihben River breached its levies upriver, turning the town's main street into a rock-strewn stream, flooding homes and damaging vehicles. In the Philippines, a 50-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman drowned when a passenger boat capsized in rough waters off northeastern Aurora province, the Office of Civil Defense said Saturday. Two other people were missing in the incident, while the remaining nine passengers and crew were rescued.

Highways reopening after Colo. flood repairs

DENVER (AP) — After days of cleanup and repairs, transportation officials have reopened several state highways in the aftermath of powerful floods that ripped bridges and roads in northern Colorado, severely restricting travel in populated areas. With more roads open, the number of people needing emergency shelters is decreasing and state officials hope there will be less congestion."Priority number one is opening up these roads right now, but doing it safely," state Department of Transportation spokeswoman Amy Ford said Saturday. "We have been working super hard to make that happen."CDOT opened six state highways in northern Colorado on Saturday. Another two were open Friday."I think for a lot of people it's not returning to normal, per se, but it's starting to get there with some of these roads being reopened," Ford said.Officials also planned to select emergency contractors soon to begin immediate work on mountain corridors where passage is now limited.Key highways that have reopened include Colorado 119 between County Line and Interstate 25 in Longmont, and Colorado 72 to Colorado 7 in Estes Park. Officials are trying to reopen a stretch of U.S. Highway 34 in Loveland soon, Ford said. The American Red Cross says 250 people were in shelters Saturday. More than a 1,000 were in shelters at the height of the disaster last week. The number of people unaccounted for was 60 and decreasing. Seven people have died and three others are missing and presumed dead. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has distributed $12.3 million in aid, with most going to housing needs like temporary rentals and repairs.Meanwhile, state oil and gas inspectors continued monitoring for more spills in flooded oilfields. Another spill of 3,100 gallons was reported Saturday near Milliken, bringing the known volume of oil released since massive flooding began last week along Colorado's Front Range to an estimated 25,000 gallons or about 600 barrels.State officials will continue surveying the damage at oilfields in the coming days and were tracking 12 locations were other spills could have happened.
Most of the oil releases reported to date came from tanks operated by Texas-based Anadarko Petroleum Co. At least four of the releases reported by the company were in Weld County and spilled oil into the South Platte River or a tributary, according to information submitted to regulators.Other companies might have suffered similar problems since flooding began last week, but they have not yet been able to assess their damage. In other developments:
— Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in Boulder for two flooding victims, 19-year-olds Wesley Quinlan and Wiyanna Nelson.
— The Colorado National Guard is helping CDOT in building access trails around impassible sites along U.S. Highway 36. More than 200 national guard civil engineers are helping with the effort.___Associated Press writers Colleen Slevin in Denver and Matthew Brown in Billings, Mont., contributed to this story.

LUKEWARM CHURCHES

REVELATION 3:15-19
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I(GOD) will spue (VOMIT) thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Pope attacks global economics for worshipping 'god of money'

CAGLIARI, Sardinia (Reuters) - Pope Francis made one of his strongest attacks on the global economic system on Sunday, saying it could no longer be based on a "god called money" and urged the unemployed to fight for work.Francis, at the start of a day-long trip to the island's capital, put aside his prepared text at a meeting with unemployed workers, including miners in hard hats who told him of their situation, and improvised for nearly 20 minutes."I find suffering here ... It weakens you and robs you of hope," he said, "Excuse me if I use strong words, but where there is no work there is no dignity."The crowd of tens of thousands of people in a square near the city port chanted "work, work, work" at the gathering, which took on the feel of a union rally.Cagliari has a youth unemployment rate of about 51 percent and much of the island's mining and industrial sectors are in crisis, with many unemployed. But the pope made clear that his assessment was not limited to the local."It is not a problem of Italy and Europe ... It is the consequence of a world choice, of an economic system that brings about this tragedy, an economic system that has at its center an idol which is called money," he said to the cheers of the crowd."We don't want this globalised economic system which does us so much harm. Men and women have to be at the center (of an economic system) as God wants, not money," he said. While Francis's predecessor Benedict also called for changes to economic systems, he was more likely to use dense intellectual language.Francis, who as bishop of Buenos Aires sided with unemployed workers in their conflict with government austerity plans, ended his improvised speech with a prayer asking God to "give us work and teach us to fight for work".Francis said he did not want the crowd to see him as a "cordial manager of the Church who comes here and says to you 'have courage'".He added: "I don't want this. I want this courage to come from inside me and push me to do everything I can as a pastor and a man."(Editing by Will Waterman)

ISAIAH 17:1,11-14
1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
11  In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.
12  Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations,(USELESS U.N) that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
13  The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
14  And behold at evening tide trouble; and before the morning he is not.(ASSAD) This is the portion of them that spoil us,(ISRAEL) and the lot of them that rob us.

AMOS 1:5
5  I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden:(IRAQ) and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir,(JORDAN) saith the LORD.

JEREMEIAH 49:23-27
23  Concerning Damascus.(SYRIA) Hamath is confounded, and Arpad: for they have heard evil tidings: they are fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea;(WAR SHIPS WITH NUKES COMING ON SYRIA) it cannot be quiet.
24  Damascus is waxed feeble, and turneth herself to flee, and fear hath seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in travail.
25  How is the city of praise not left, the city of my joy!
26  Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the LORD of hosts.
27  And I will kindle a fire (NUKES OR BOMBS) in the wall of Damascus, and it shall consume the palaces of Benhadad.(ASSADS PALACES POSSIBLY IN DAMASCUS)

Russia says opposes any resolution threatening force against Syria

SEPT 22,13-yahoonews

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia on Sunday criticized what it said were Western attempts to use a Syrian chemical arms disarmament deal to seek a U.N. resolution threatening force against President Bashar al-Assad's government.Syria has handed over information about its chemical arsenal to a U.N.-backed weapons watchdog, meeting the first deadline of the ambitious U.S.-Russia deal that averted the threat of Western air strikes. The U.N. Security Council is due to give its endorsement of the deal, but Moscow and Washington are divided over how to ensure compliance with the accord. U.S. President Barack Obama has warned that he is still prepared to attack Syria, even without a U.N. mandate, if Assad reneges on the deal.
"They see in the U.S.-Russian deal not a chance to save the planet from significant quantities of chemical weapons in Syria, but as a chance to do what Russia and China will not allow, namely to push through a resolution involving (the threat of) force against the regime and shielding the opposition," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Russian state television posted on his ministry's website.
Lavrov also said Russia, which has used its veto to block Western efforts to use the U.N. Security Council's clout to pressure Assad's government, was ready to send troops to Syria to ensure the safety of U.N. chemical weapons inspectors."An international presence is needed on the perimeters of the areas where the experts will work," he said. "We are willing to send our troops and military police to participate," he said. "I do not think that there is a need for a major contingent. I think military observers will be sufficient."

Liberman: Soldier’s murder shows PA doesn’t want peace

Killer’s family says he is a ‘quiet, civilized’ person, who is opposed to violence; victim’s girlfriend: He was naive

September 22, 2013, 11:20 am 2-The times of Israel
Amar’s family on Sunday expressed surprise at his actions, saying he was opposed to violence.“He was a quiet, civilized, understanding person” who wasn’t violent, Nijat Khourmata, his wife, told Ynet. “He never told us about his plans… he hasn’t lived here for two years.”One of his daughters said “the only problem with my father was the financial issue… I never expected him to do such a thing. He would always say he was against these things.”Hazan’s girlfriend alleged that Amar had attempted to lure other Israelis to the territories in the past.Apparently Nidal planned this for a very long time,” the woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told Army Radio Sunday. “He didn’t mark out Tomer immediately. He tried to abduct other people first, but it seems that Tomer was taken in because he’s naive.”Finance Minister Yair Lapid said Saturday that the murder served as a warning for Israel that it cannot rely on foreign entities with regard to its own security.“The murder of the soldier Tomer Hazan is a terrible reminder that every day Israel is dealing with murderous, animal-like terrorists,” Lapid wrote on his Facebook page.“We should not abandon the security of Israel to anyone except ourselves.”

Economics Minister and Jewish Home party head Naftali Bennett echoed Lapid’s statements, but added that Israel should be wary of conducting peace talks with the Palestinians.“You do not make peace with a terrorist who throws soldiers into a pit,” Bennett said. “You cannot do anything with them except fight them without mercy.”Likud MK Tzipi Hotovely also condemned the murder of the soldier and said that such acts proved that Israel’s freeing of terrorists — as part of the arrangements for this summer’s resumption of peace talks — was a mistake.“The rationale behind the murder of the soldier is tragic proof that the release of terrorists is wrong,” Hotovely  said.“The Palestinian masses now believe that the kidnapping of soldiers or bodies is an effective means to negotiate with Israel on the release of murderers,” she added.

Rouhani’s new tune, and Netanyahu’s broken record

However skeptical Israel may rightly be about ostensible change in Iran, the arguments that proved effective against Ahmadinejad do not work as well when facing his far more sophisticated successor
