Palestinians win upgraded UN status by wide margin

President Mahmoud Abbas: "The international community now stands before the last chance to save the two state solution"
The UN General Assembly has voted to grant the Palestinians non-member observer state status - a move opposed by Israel and the US.Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas told the assembly the vote was the "last chance to save the two-state solution" with Israel.Israel's ambassador to the UN, Ron Prosor, said the bid "doesn't advance peace - it pushes it backwards".The assembly voted 138-9 in favour, with 41 nations abstaining.'Birth certificate'"Sixty-five years ago on this day, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 181, which partitioned the land of historic Palestine into two states and became the birth certificate for Israel," Mr Abbas told the assembly."The General Assembly is called upon today to issue a birth certificate of the reality of the State of Palestine," he said.Mr Prosor said "the only way to reach peace is through agreements" between the parties, not at the UN."No decision by the UN can break the 4,000-year-old bond between the people of Israel and the land of Israel," he said.Opponents of the bid say a Palestinian state should emerge only out of bilateral negotiations, as set out in the 1993 Oslo peace accords under which the Palestinian Authority was established.Speaking after the vote, the US ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, urged the Palestinians and Israel to resume direct peace talks and warned against unilateral actions.US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the vote "unfortunate and counter-productive", saying it put more obstacles on the path to peace.Symbolic milestone-The Palestinians are seeking UN recognition of a Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, the lands Israel captured in 1967.
France, Spain and Norway are among those urging the General Assembly to raise the Palestinians' UN status. Germany was set to abstain. While the move is seen as a symbolic milestone in Palestinian ambitions for statehood, the "Yes" vote will also have a practical diplomatic effect, says the BBC's Barbara Plett, at the UN.It would allow the Palestinians to participate in debates at the UN and improve their chances of joining UN agencies and bodies like the International Criminal Court.Last year, Mr Abbas asked the UN Security Council to admit the Palestinians as a member state, but that was opposed by the US.

The Meaning of Numbers: The Number 11
If ten marks the perfection of Divine order, then the number eleven is an addition to it, subversive of and undoing that order. If twelve is the number which marks the perfection of Divine government, then 11 falls short of it. So that whether we regard it as being 10 + 1, or 12 - 1, it is the number which marks, disorder, disorganization, imperfection, and disintegration.

THE NUMBER SEVEN IN THE HOLY BIBLE

The number SEVEN is one of the most significant numbers in the Holy Bible.
This is a chapter from the book, Biblical Mathematics, written by Evangelist, Ed F. Vallowe.

When man began to analyze and combine numbers, he developed other interesting symbols. He took the perfect world number FOUR and added to it the perfect divine number, THREE, and got SEVEN, the most sacred number to the Hebrews. It was earth crowned with heaven -- the four-square earth plus the divine COMPLETENESS OF GOD. So we have SEVEN expressing COMPLETENESS through union of earth with heaven. This number is used more than all other numbers in the Word of God, save the number ONE.

In the Book of Revelation the number SEVEN is used throughout. There are SEVEN churches, SEVEN Spirits, SEVEN stars, SEVEN seals, SEVEN trumpets, SEVEN vials, SEVEN personages, SEVEN dooms, and SEVEN new things. SEVEN symbolizes Spiritual Perfection. All of life revolves around this number. SEVEN is used over 700 times in the Bible. It is used 54 times in the Book of Revelation. The whole Word of God is founded upon the number SEVEN. It stands for the SEVENTH day of the Creation Week, and speaks of the Millennial Rest day. It denotes COMPLETENESS or PERFECTION.In Leviticus 23:15-16, the number SEVEN and the Sabbath, which was the SEVENTH day, is connected with the word COMPLETE. The word COMPLETE follows after the words “SEVEN SABBATH” (Seventh day). The day following the SEVENTH sabbath there was something NEW that took place.

The word FINISHED is also connected with the number SEVEN. In Revelation 10:7 we read,
“In the days of the voice of the SEVENTH angel, when he shall begin to sound the mystery of God should be FINISHED.”“It is DONE” is another expression found in connection with the number Seven.“And the SEVENTH angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne saying, It is DONE.” (Revelation 16:17)The word CREATED is used SEVEN times in connection with God’s creative work. (Genesis 1:1; Genesis 1:21; 1:27 (three times); 2:3; and 2:4). God created all things in the beginning and then took six days of restoring His creation and then rested on the SEVENTH day. (Genesis 2:1-3). He appointed SEVEN days for the week, and most, if not all advanced nations reckon time in that way: SEVEN days to the week. Few ever stop to think of why there are SEVEN days in a week. Do atheists and infidels give God and the Bible credit for it? There are SEVEN notes in the musical scale. All other pitches are only variations of these. When the musician uses the eighth note he goes back to “do” and starts over. Man named the notes but God fixed the sounds, even as God fixed the days of the week, and man named them.Noah took the clean beasts into the ark by SEVENS (Genesis 7:2) SEVEN days after Noah went into the ark the flood came. (Genesis 7:-10) Peter tells about the long-suffering of God waiting in the days of Noah. (I Peter 3:21) Those SEVEN days COMPLETED God’s time of waiting.

Before Aaron and his sons entered their priestly work they were consecrated SEVEN days. (Leviticus 8:31-36) Here is a picture of a life COMPLETELY or WHOLLY consecrated or dedicated to the Lord for service. On the day of atonement the high priest sprinkled the blood upon the mercy seat SEVEN times. (Leviticus 16:14) This is a picture of the COMPLETENESS of the redemptive work of Christ.“By his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us." (Hebrews 9:12)When Christ offered Himself that FINISHED the sacrificial offerings. They were ended. No longer must we place sacrifices upon an altar.
When Israel took the city of Jericho God told them to march around the city SEVEN times. Thus, on the SEVENTH day, when they marched around the city SEVEN times, they COMPLETED their marching. (Joshua 6:1-16)There were SEVEN FEAST days of our Lord. (Passover, Unleavened, First-fruits, Pentecost, Atonement, Trumpets and Tabernacle). (Leviticus 23:1-44)
There were SEVEN branches on the CANDLESTICK in the Holy Place in the Tabernacle and this pictures the COMPLETE light of God for the souls of man.Solomon was SEVEN years in building the Temple and kept the Feast for SEVEN days. Job had SEVEN sons. When his friends came to visit him they sat SEVEN days and SEVEN nights in silence, and afterward they were required to offer a Burnt Offering of SEVEN bullocks and SEVEN rams. Naaaman washed SEVEN times in the Jordan. The Saviour spoke SEVEN words from the Cross. SEVEN men of honest report were chosen to administer the alms of the church in Acts 6:1-7. There were SEVEN years of plenty and SEVEN years of famine in Egypt during the days of Joseph.SEVEN times in the Book of Revelation blessing of the Lord are promised to His people. These are called the “BEATITUDES” of Revelation. These are found in Chapters 1:3; 14:13; 16:15; 19:9; 20:6; 22:7, 14.There are SEVEN Dispensations -- Innocence, Conscience, Government, Patriarchal, Law, Grace, and Milleniah (sic) Age.SEVEN times the Book of Life is mentioned in the Bible. The Book of Revelation is a Book of SEVENS. We have SEVEN churches, SEVEN seals, SEVEN Trumpets, SEVEN Personages, SEVEN vails (sic), SEVEN dooms, SEVEN new things. SEVEN SEVENS make up this Book . It is the COMPLETENESS of all things.

Jesus said to “forgive SEVENTY times SEVEN“ In other words, He is saying, “Keep on forgiving until you are complete.” Even the duration of Israel’s great punishments was based upon this law of SEVENS. Their captivity in Babylon was for SEVENTY years, ten periods of SEVENS. (Jeremiah 25:11-12; Daniel l9:2)Life operates in a cycle of SEVENS. Changes take place in the body every SEVEN years. There are SEVEN bones in the neck, SEVEN bones in the face, SEVEN bones in the ankle, and SEVEN holes in the head. Most births are multiple of SEVENS. The hen sits three weeks (21 days); the pigeon two weeks (14 days); after having laid eggs for two weeks. Of 129 species of Mammalia (sic) the majority have a period from conception to birth of an exact number of weeks, a multiple of SEVEN.Human physiology is constructed on a law of SEVENS. Children are born to mothers in a certain number of weeks usually 280 days, a multiple of SEVENS. Fevers and intermittent attacks of gout, ague, and similar complaints have a period of operation of SEVEN, FOURTEEN or TWENTY-ONE days knows as critical days. All departments of nature are marked all over with mathematics. In this realm practically everything is in SEVENS. Notice next time the shape of frost when it crystallizes on the window. Notice the small snow flakes. It is wonderful how God formed everything in a pattern of SEVENS.It would be well for the reader to always remember the SEVEN means COMPLETENESS or SPIRITUAL PERFECTION. Whenever you come to a SEVEN in the Word of God read the meaning and the message is plain.SEVEN is found 735 times in the Bible. SEVENFOLD is mentioned 6 times and SEVENTH is found 119 times. The SEVENTH time Noah’s name occurs is where it is said,
“Noah was a just man, and PERFECT in his generations.” (Genesis 6:9)

In the second chapter of Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar had a dream of a great image whose head was of gold, arms and breasts of silver, his belly and things of brass, legs of iron, and feet of iron and clay. (Daniel 2:31-33) Daniel told him that he was the head of gold (vs 37-38) In the next chapter Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold to be worshipped. At that time he called together SEVEN kinds of officials to the dedication of the image: (1) princes, (2) governors, (3) captains, (4) judges, (5) treasurers (6) counselors, (7) sheriffs. The penalty for refusing to worship that image was death by being cast into the burning fiery furnace. THREE Hebrew children refused to worship the image and were cast into that furnace of death, and brought forth alive, thus picturing the resurrection, signified by the number THREE That furnace was heated SEVEN times hotter than it had ever been. Here is a COMPLETE DELIVERANCE FOR GOD’S PEOPLE from the power of death. (Daniel 3:1-27) When those THREE Hebrew children came out of that furnace of fire, or death, there was not a trace of fire upon their bodies or their clothing. When Christ brings His people out of death there will not be a trace of death left on them. The will be COMPLETELY delivered from its power.

UN Votes Thursday on Palestinian Status

Margaret Besheer November 28, 2012VOA

U.N. set to implicitly recognize Palestinian state, despite US, Israel threats

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The U.N. General Assembly is set to implicitly recognize a sovereign state of Palestine on Thursday despite threats by the United States and Israel to punish the Palestinian Authority by withholding much-needed funds for the West Bank government.A resolution that would change the Palestinian Authority's U.N. observer status from "entity" to "non-member state," like the Vatican, is expected to pass easily in the 193-nation General Assembly.Israel, the United States and a handful of other members are planning to vote against what they see as a largely symbolic and counterproductive move by the Palestinians, which takes place on the 65th anniversary of the assembly's adoption of resolution 181 on the partition of Palestine into Jewish and Arab states.Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has been leading the campaign to win support for the resolution, and over a dozen European governments have offered him their support after an eight-day conflict this month between Israel and Islamists in the Gaza Strip, who are pledged to Israel's destruction and oppose his efforts toward a negotiated peace. The U.S. State Department said on Wednesday that Deputy Secretary of State Bill Burns and U.S. Middle East peace envoy David Hale traveled to New York on Wednesday in a last-ditch effort to get Abbas to reconsider. The Palestinians gave no sign they were turning back.Secretary of State Hillary Clinton repeated to reporters in Washington on Wednesday the U.S. view that the Palestinian move was misguided and efforts should focus instead on reviving the stalled Middle East peace process."The path to a two-state solution that fulfills the aspirations of the Palestinian people is through Jerusalem and Ramallah, not New York," she said. "The only way to get a lasting solution is to commence direct negotiations."State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland reiterated U.S. warnings that the move could cause a reduction of U.S. economic support for the Palestinians. The Israelis have also warned they might take significant deductions out of monthly transfers of duties that Israel collects on the Palestinians' behalf.Despite its fierce opposition, Israel seems concerned not to find itself diplomatically isolated. It has recently toned down threats of retaliation in the face of wide international support for the initiative, notably among its European allies."The decision at the United Nations will change nothing on the ground," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in Jerusalem. "It will not advance the establishment of a Palestinian state. It will delay it further."
'SLAP IN THE FACE'
Granting Palestinians the title of "non-member observer state" falls short of full U.N. membership - something the Palestinians failed to achieve last year. But it would allow them access to the International Criminal Court and some other international bodies, should they choose to join them.Hanan Ashrawi, a top Palestinian Liberation Organization official, told a news conference in Ramallah that "the Palestinians can't be blackmailed all the time with money.""If Israel wants to destabilize the whole region, it can," she said. "We are talking to the Arab world about their support, if Israel responds with financial measures, and the EU has indicated they will not stop their support to us."Peace talks have been stalled for two years, mainly over the issue of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which have expanded despite being deemed illegal by most of the world. In the draft resolution, the Palestinians have pledged to relaunch the peace process immediately following the U.N. vote.As there is little doubt about how the United States will vote when the Palestinian resolution to upgrade its U.N. status is put to a vote sometime after 3 p.m. (2000 GMT) on Thursday, the Palestinian Authority has been concentrating its efforts on lobbying wealthy European states, diplomats say.
With strong support from the developing world that makes up the majority of U.N. members, the resolution is virtually assured of securing more than the requisite simple majority. Palestinian officials hope for more than 130 yes votes.Abbas has been trying to amass as many European votes in favor as possible.Austria, Denmark, Norway, Finland, France, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland all pledged to support the Palestinian resolution. Britain said it was prepared to vote yes, but only if the Palestinians fulfilled certain conditions.Diplomats said the Czech Republic was expected to vote against the move, potentially dashing European hopes to avoid a three-way split in the vote. Germany and the Netherlands said they planned to abstain, like Estonia and Lithuania.Ashrawi said the positive responses from European states were encouraging and sent a message of hope to all Palestinians."This constitutes a historical turning point and opportunity for the world to rectify a grave historical injustice that the Palestinians have undergone since the creation of the state of Israel in 1948," she said.A strong backing from European nations could make it awkward for Israel to implement harsh retaliatory measures. But Israel's reaction might not be so measured if the Palestinians seek ICC action against Israel on charges of war crimes, crimes against humanity or other crimes the court would have jurisdiction over.Israel also seems wary of weakening the Western-backed Abbas, especially after the political boost rival Hamas received from recent solidarity visits to Gaza by top officials from Egypt, Qatar and Tunisia.Hamas militants, who control Gaza and have had icy relations with the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, unexpectedly offered Abbas their support this week. One Western diplomat said the Palestinian move was almost an insult to recently re-elected U.S. President Barack Obama."It's not the best way to convince Mr. Obama to have a more positive approach toward the peace process," said the diplomat, who was planning to vote for the resolution. "Three weeks after his election, it's basically a slap in the face."(Andrew Quinn in Washington, Noah Browning in Ramallah, Jeffrey Heller in Jerusalem, Michelle Nichols in New York, and Reuters bureaux in Europe and elsewhere; Editing by Peter Cooney and Xavier Briand)

'With UN Bid, Arabs Once Again Try to Steal Israel's Heritage'

November 29th is a day that belongs to Israel, says one historian - and the PA is trying to 'steal' it for themselves By David Lev First Publish: 11/29/2012, 1:56 PM-INN

Historical Reenactment of the 29th of November
Historical Reenactment of the 29th of November-Amir Lusky
It's no accident that the Palestinian Authority is bringing its “case” to the United Nations on November 29 – a day that has for 65 years been identified with the State of Israel.“It's very typical of the PA to choose the day that Israel was recognized as a state by the UN as the date for their state's recognition,” said one historian. “The PA has tried to co-opt so many Jewish and Israeli symbols in the past, and the co-opting of November 29 fits right in with that,” said Moshe Siebel, a history afficianado. The 29th of November is perhaps the only date on the secular calendar to be adopted into the Hebrew calendar, feted as “Kaf-Tet b'November..” Streets in many cities in Israel bear the name, and in the past it has been celebrated as a semi-holiday by Israelis as the day that the United Nations officially partitioned Palestine in 1947, and declared that a portion of the soon-to-be-defunct British Mandate for Palestine be reserved for a Jewish state. Now, in 2012, the PA is set to get UN General Assembly recognition for a state on land it already controls, but cannot have an army on at present. In a vote later Thursday, the UN is expected to recognize 'Palestine' as a non-voting, non-member observer state.UN Resolution 181 was the first official recognition of the national rights of the Jewish people in the Land of Israel in the modern age, going farther than the 1917 Balfour Declaration, which recognized Mandatory Palestine as a “national home” for the Jewish people.
Although the Partition Plan caused much dispute among Zionists, as it reserved only a small part of western Mandatory Palestine as the future Jewish state and did not include Jerusalem, which was to be internationalized, the Jewish community and its institutions embraced it. Thousands of people in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Petach Tikvah, and other centers of Jewish settlement celebrated in the streets. The Arab countries categorically rejected the Partition Plan, and vowed to crush the incipient Jewish state – a vow they tried to follow through on barely seven months later, in May 1948, after David Ben-Gurion declared the State of Israel. Armies from seven Arab countries immediately opened a war of annihilation against the Jewish community, but were miraculously beaten back, with the new State capturing important land areas that, had the Arabs agreed to the Partition Plan, would have been a part of an Arab state. For Jews around the world, November 29, 1947, was a very emotional day – in a sense, the rebirth of the Jewish people after the horrors of the Holocaust.Mandatory Palestine was already the home of hundreds of thousands of refugees who had managed to escape Europe, and hundreds of thousands more, still living in Europe and in refugee camps in Cyprus, were poised to immigrate to Israel as soon as Britain's Mandate had expired.
Cynically, says Siebel, the PA chose the same date in an attempt to once again co-opt Jewish history for its own purposes. “The historical injustice in this statehood bid is just unbelievable", he continued."If it weren't actually happening you just wouldn't be able to accept as reality,” he said. “The Jews were decimated in the Holocaust, with millions killed by the Nazis and their allies, and no one in the free world extended a hand. Meanwhile, the PA is plied with billions of dollars in assistance, and PA chief Mahmoud Abbas is feted as a hero in world capitals.“Israel itself supplies the PA with millions of dollars a year and provides PA Arabs with electricity, water, jobs, and encourages the world to assist Abbas, while the Arab reaction to the Partition Plan and the establishment of Israel was to throw the Jews out of Arab countries and seize their property and money."And the Jews never organized a terror campaign against Arabs during the Mandate period, unlike the Arabs, who then as well as now use terror as a tool to uproot the Jews from their rightful place here,” Siebel adds.“It's similar to the PA's declaration of the Temple Mount as a holy place in Islam that must be defended with life and limb from the 'evil Zionists,' even though the Temple Mount is never mentioned in the Koran,” Siebel said. “Neither is Jerusalem mentioned in their texts, and never in history did the Arabs give the city the status of a capital. But all of the sudden, because we are here, Jerusalem has become the 'eternal capital of the Palestinian people.'"The UN statehood bid is just another attempt by the Arabs to push us out of our land – and our history, for that matter – and the countries that support this are once again showing their anti-Semitism and hypocrisy.”

EU commission foresees two treaty changes to reach full integration

28.11.12 @ 21:53 By Honor Mahony
BRUSSELS - The EU commission Wednesday published its vision for a "genuine" economic and monetary union (EMU) under which national budgets could be vetoed and a central European budget would allow transfers for troubled countries. The process would require two rounds of treaty change – one within the next five years and another more profound exercise in the longer-term.The 52-page blueprints emphasises the need for the eurozone to be able to "integrate quicker and deeper" than the rest of the EU, with the eurozone now largely seen as paying for being established as a political project without the fundamental economic and financial structures to back it up.Ideas for the future include coordinating national tax and employment policies, eurobonds, and a eurozone budget managed by a treasury in the European Commission.
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said the "main message" of the document is that both discipline and solidarity are needed for the EMU to survive. The paper envisages progress in three steps.
Within the next 18 months, the EU should set up a banking union and establish a "convergence and competitiveness instrument" - money that member states would use to undertake structural reforms. Countries with a budget deficit breaking EU rules would be obliged to use the instrument.Within five years, the "convergence instrument" would be built up into a separate eurozone budget that would be funded by own taxes in the eurozone. This time frame would also see "further budgetary coordination (including the possibility to require amendments to national budgets or to veto them)," says the paper. There should be short-term eurobonds - the pooling of euro states' debt - and a redemption fund for states with large public debt. These steps would need a treaty change.Other steps to consider would be giving "clear competence for the EU level to harmonise national budgetary laws and to have recourse to the Court of Justice in case of non-compliance."Final steps to full economic and monetary union would only be taken in the "longer term" and would require "major treaty reform" suggests the paper. This would likely include a possibly large central budget with stabilisers – meaning money would be transferred to member states in trouble.“As a final destination it would involve a political union with a central budget as its own fiscal capacity and a means of imposing budgetary and economic decisions on its members.”Noting the “degree” of sovereignty member states would have to hand to Brussels, the paper suggests that the European Parliament “primarily” needs to ensure the democratic nature of the process. The blueprint underlines that intergovernmentalism – where governments alone take decisions – would undermine the “accountability” of the set-up.The paper is to feed into a report on the future of economic and monetary union to be discussed by EU leaders next month.
Many of the ideas proposed have already cropped in other commission papers but the main stumbling block remains unchanged – the political will of member states.

Americans’ support for Israel grows in wake of Arab Spring, poll reveals

As regional convulsions paint Israel as ‘our most reliable ally,’ support for US ‘military defense’ of Israel in the event of a conflict with Iran jumps to 71%

NEW YORK — The convulsions of the Arab Spring may be driving the American public’s support for Israel to new highs, according to a poll released Wednesday by the Washington-based group The Israel Project.Americans who say the United States should support the Jewish state in the conflict with the Palestinians increased from 60 percent a year ago to 68% today, a survey of voters taken November 6-8 by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner has found. Those who said they supported the Palestinians dropped from 8% to 7% in that time. The survey polled 793 respondents and the margin of error is 3.5%.“Given the turmoil in the Middle East, increased support among the American public for deepening the special relationship between the US and Israel is both a natural reaction and good policy,” said Israel Project CEO Josh Block. “Americans know that Israel is our greatest and only truly reliable ally in the region, and that is more true today than ever,” he added. That analysis is supported by the finding that 81% of Americans want to maintain or bolster US relations with Israel, while only 13% want the US to distance itself from Israel. (A consistent 2% want the US to “end its relationship with Israel.”)That’s a significant bump in support for the relationship from one year earlier, when support for maintaining or strengthening the relationship was at 73%, and for distancing at 23%.Similarly, 59% said the US should work more closely with Israel, compared to just 24% who said it should work more closely with traditional Arab allies, like Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The poll measured the “warm” feelings of respondents toward each side in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Feelings for Israel, it found, remained identical compared to a year ago, with 60% saying they had “warm” feelings while those saying they had similar feelings for Palestinians dropped precipitously, from 26% a year ago to 16% today. While a huge majority supports a two-state solution (69% support, 16% oppose), a large majority (57% to 27%) opposes unilateral Palestinian moves at the United Nations. The increase in support for Israel over the past year is particularly striking in that it has not been accompanied by increased support for the Palestinians as well. According to figures released by The Israel Project, polls over the past seven years have seen simultaneous increases and declines of support for the two sides. Usually, during flare-ups in the conflict, both sides see increased support as those in the middle choose sides.During the past year, however, the increase in support for Israel was not accompanied by an increase in support for the Palestinians, suggesting that in the wake of the Arab Spring the middle ground is tilting toward the Jewish state alone.

Wary of Egypt

Americans are also skeptical about the new Muslim Brotherhood government in Egypt. Fifty-five percent of respondents agreed with the statement that new governments “in Middle Eastern countries like Egypt threaten US security interests because they are run by religious extremists.”At the same time, just 30% agreed with the statement that the new governments “do not threaten US security interests, because they are likely to be moderate and become more pro-Western.”The Israel Project also released polling data from Egypt on Wednesday that hinted at the effect an Iranian nuclear weapon might have in the region.
According to a TIP/Greenberg Quinlan Rosner survey of Egypt conducted in August 2012, 87% of Egyptians said they want a nuclear weapons program for their country, while 65% approve of resuming diplomatic relations with Iran. Fully 62% said they believed Iran “and its president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad” are “friends of Egypt.”In the November poll of Americans, 76% of respondents said the Israel-Egypt peace treaty was a “vital” US interest, and a majority (59% to 31%) favored withholding American aid to Egypt if Cairo attempts to abrogate its peace treaty with Israel.

Israel vs. Iran

The poll also found Americans have very negative feelings toward Iran, with 69% expressing “cold” or unfavorable feelings, and just 9% expressing “warm” or favorable feelings. That’s a trend for the worse for Iran, which one year ago enjoyed the support of 14% of Americans. The poll found an increase of 10 points in support for American military assistance to Israel in the event of war with Iran. The poll asked: “If Israel were to strike Iranian nuclear facilities to keep it from getting nuclear weapons, and then Iran attacked Israel in response, would you support or oppose the United States coming to the military defense of Israel?”
In November 2011, 61% supported, while 33% opposed. In November 2012, the figures were 71% supporting and just 22% opposed.

Hours ahead of vote, former PM Olmert comes out in favor of Palestinian UN bid

Echoing PA’s position, Olmert says nonmember state status is congruent with two-state solution, will help move talks forward

November 29, 2012, 5:04 am 1-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

Former prime minister Ehud Olmert has come out in favor of the Palestinian Authority’s bid for nonmember state status at the UN, bucking Jerusalem’s steadfast opposition to the move.In a letter to Israeli-American writer Bernard Avishai published in The Daily Beast early Thursday, Olmert says the Palestinians’ request runs in line with the two-state solution concept and will help move talks along.“The Palestinian request from the United Nations is congruent with  the basic concept of the two-state solution. Therefore, I see no reason to oppose it,” he wrote.Ramallah has vowed to go ahead with the resolution on Thursday, despite heavy pressure from the US and Israel to drop the gambit. The vote is expected to lean heavily in favor of the Palestinians, and may give them access to world bodies such as the International Monitary fund and the International Criminal Court. A bid for full member status last year was scuttled by the Security Council.
Israel argues that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is trying to dictate the outcome of border talks by going to the UN, and fears the PA will try to leverage its access to the ICC to force Israel’s hand.
Olmert, however, echoed the Palestinian position that having the UN weigh in will help move talks forward.
“Once the United Nations will lay the foundation for this idea, we in Israel will have to engage in a serious process of negotiations, in order to agree on specific borders based on the 1967 lines, and resolve the other issues,” he wrote. “It is time to give a hand to, and encourage, the moderate forces amongst the Palestinians. [Abbas and Palestinian Prime Minister] Salam Fayyad need our help. It’s time to give it.”According to Avishai, many other leaders and military officials are also in favor of the bid, if only to strengthen the moderate Abbas, who took a hit in popularity during Israel’s eight day mini-war with Hamas earlier this month.Olmert, a former hard-line Likud member and mayor of Jerusalem, made headlines earlier this year when he called for Israel to divide Jerusalem, an issue more taboo in Israeli society than Palestinian statehood.A dovish prime minister under the centrist Kadima party from 2005 to 2009, Olmert reportedly came close to reaching a deal with Abbas before talks got cut off by Israel’s 2008 invasion of Gaza. Olmert was forced to leave office soon after in the wake of corruption charges, most of which he was eventually cleared of, and high-level talks have not resumed under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Though Olmert is still embroiled in a real estate corruption case, he is reportedly weighing returning to politics when Israelis go to the polls in January.

Palestinians reject 11th-hour bid by US to stop statehood gambit

PA remains committed to going ahead with request for nonmember state status at UN after Abbas meets with top state department officials

November 29, 2012, 12:55 am 1-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

The US made a last-ditch effort Wednesday to convince the Palestinian Authority to pull back from a statehood gambit at the United Nations, sending two senior envoys to meet with PA head Mahmoud Abbas in New York.By all accounts, though, the Palestinians remain committed to asking for world body for nonmember state status on Thursday, and have gained powerful European support as  a bulwark against any Israeli reprisals for the move.Under Secretary of State William Burns and special Mideast envoy David Hale both met with Abbas Wednesday morning to reiterate Washington’s opposition to the move, which the Palestinians say is an important step in advancing talks for a two-state solution with Israel.“We’ve been clear, we’ve been consistent with the Palestinians that we oppose observer state status in the General Assembly and this resolution. We made those points again. And the deputy secretary also reiterated that no one should be under any illusion that this resolution is going to produce the results that the Palestinians claim to seek, namely to have their own state living in peace next to Israel,” Secretary of State spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters Wednesday. “We went up to make one more try to make our views known to President Abbas and to urge him to reconsider.”The US and Israel have led opposition to the statehood bid, though  the move has wide support in the United Nations General Assembly, with some 130 nations expected to vote yes on the matter. On Tuesday France said it would support the move, joining Spain, Norway, Denmark and Switzerland and a host of other countries. On Wednesday, Palestine Liberation Organization senior official Hanan Ashrawi told a press conference that the Palestinians would go ahead with the move no matter the pressure, which she characterized as “blackmail.”“Some rights aren’t for sale,” Ashrawi said. “If Israel wants to destabilize the whole region, it can. We are talking to the Arab World about their support if Israel responds with financial measures, and the EU has indicated they will not stop their support to us.”Ashrawi urged the US to at least abstain, saying that voting no “would be seen as being really pathetic by the rest of the world” and hurt American interests in the Middle East. However, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday told reporters the US believes the Palestinians are going in the wrong direction to reach their goals.Clinton stressed that the “path to a two-state solution that fulfills the aspirations of the Palestinian people is through Jerusalem and Ramallah, not New York.”On Tuesday, a senior diplomatic official in Jerusalem said Israel would not seek to cancel the Oslo peace accords as a punitive measure against the application to the UN, but it may still look to impose financial levies, such as collecting on a NIS 700 million debt the PA owes the Israel Electric Corporation.Nuland said Congress may also impose financial penalties on the PA for the move.“This resolution is not going to take them closer to statehood. It does nothing to get them closer to statehood, and it may actually make the environment more difficult,” she said. “We’ve been clear all along with the Palestinians that we are seeking to get money for the Palestinian Authority released from the Congress, but that these kinds of things don’t make it easier, and that members of Congress are watching very closely.”

Return to talks?

The Palestinians say they need UN recognition of a Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem, the lands Israel captured in 1967, to be able to resume negotiations with Israel.Israel argues that Abbas is trying to dictate the outcome of border talks by going to the UN, though the recognition request presented to the world body calls for a quick resumption of negotiations on all core issues of the conflict, including borders. It’s not clear if negotiations could resume even if Obama, freed from the constraints of his re-election campaign, can turn his attention to the Mideast conflict.Abbas aides have given conflicting accounts of whether Abbas, once armed with global backing for the 1967 borders, will return to negotiations without an Israeli settlement freeze.Israel has said it is willing to resume talks without preconditions.
Government spokesman Mark Regev affirmed the position on Wednesday. Regev said that by going to the UN, the Palestinians violate “both the spirit and the word of signed agreements to solve issues through negotiations.”Palestinian officials countered that their historic UN bid is meant to salvage a peace deal they say is being sabotaged by Israeli settlement expansion. “It is a last-ditch effort because we believe the two-state solution is in jeopardy as a result of these actions,” Ashrawi said.German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Wednesday that “in the long term, this region can only find peace through negotiations to resolve the Middle East conflict,” but she did not say whether her country would abstain or vote against.“Nothing will really be gained either by unilateral Palestinian initiatives at the United Nations which aim for recognition nor by Israel’s continued building of settlements,” she said.Other than creating leverage in negotiations, UN recognition would also allow the Palestinians to seek membership in UN agencies and international bodies, for example making them eligible for loans from the International Monetary Fund.Perhaps most significantly, it could open the door to a new attempt to join the International Criminal Court and seek an investigation into alleged war crimes by Israel in the territories.Abbas’ self-rule government, the Palestinian Authority, unilaterally recognized the court’s jurisdiction in 2009 and pressed prosecutors to open an investigation into Israel’s previous Gaza offensive. Prosecutors noted at the time that the court’s founding treaty, the Rome Statute, is only open to states. Israel has not signed the statute and does not recognize the court’s jurisdiction.Ashrawi on Wednesday avoided explicit threats to take Israel to court, but suggested it’s an option. “If Israel refrains from settlement activities … there is no immediate pressing need to go,” she said, adding that this could change if “Israel persists in its violations.”On Tuesday, a Palestinian official said the PA may try to take Israel to the ICC if a probe into the death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat finds he was poisoned.Israel would respond “forcefully” if the Palestinians try to pursue war crimes charges against Israel at the ICC, said an Israeli government official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss policy considerations. If the Palestinians use their upgraded international status “as a tool to confront Israel in the international arena, there will be a response,” he said.Until then, he said, Israel will be bound by its obligations to the Palestinians under existing peace agreements, but won’t necessarily go beyond them.

Mixed reactions in the West Bank

In the West Bank, the view of Abbas’ quest for recognition was mixed. Many were bitter, saying they’ve heard too many promises that statehood is near and don’t believe a nod from the UN will make a difference.
“Nothing will come of it,” said Arwa Abu Helo, a 23-year-old student in Ramallah. “It’s just a way of misleading the public.”Yousef Mohammed, a bank teller, said Abbas was trying to “gain the spotlight after Hamas said it won in Gaza.”Hurriyeh Abdel Karim, 65, said she was willing to give Abbas a chance. “If he succeeds, maybe our life improves,” she said.

Morsi: Israelis and Palestinians must talk about similarities for peace to work

Embattled Egyptian president says he is working toward regional stability, defends domestic policies that have country boiling

November 29, 2012, 4:16 am 0-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

Israelis and Palestinians need to begin speaking about what they have in common if they want peace in the region to have a chance, Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi said in an interview published by Time magazine late Wednesday.Speaking to the weekly from Cairo days after helping broker a ceasefire that ended eight day of fighting between Israel and Gaza, the country’s embattled president appealed for an end to bloodshed all around the Middle East and North Africa and said he and US President Barack Obama were working toward that goal.“President Obama has been very helpful, very helpful. And I can say really that his deeds coincide with his intentions,” he said, speaking in English. “We’ve been talking together about the cease-fire, that’s very important, then we can talk about differences between Palestinians and Israelis. It’s not easy. It’s very difficult. Both sides are talking about differences. We want them to talk about similarities…. We are now doing this job as much as we can.”Morsi, under fire at home for pushing through a serious of unpopular measures that essentially place him above judicial oversight, dismissed claims that he was a “pharoah” and said the country’s ills were a product of its lack of constitution.“I’m sure Egyptians will pass through this. We’re learning. We’re learning how to be free,” he said. “We haven’t seen this before. We’re learning how to debate. How to differ. How to be majority and minority. … We don’t have a parliament now. That’s too bad.  We don’t have a constitution now. That [situation is] urging us, pushing people, to finish this but in some sort of stable climate and situation so people can go and vote on the constitution. We want to finish it.”An activist for the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood before rising to power, Morsi said the group would protect freedom of religion in Egypt and not seek to clamp down on non-Muslims.“We cannot get stable unless we have freedom, democracy, rights for everyone, equal rights, equal rights for men and women, for Muslim, Christians, for whoever is carrying any opinion,” he said.
He also said he would work to protect democracy in the country.Despite his words, Morsi is facing serious challenges at home from protesters and judicial figures, as anger over his recent decrees crests.Judges in the country’s top courts went on strike Wednesday to protest Morsi’s seizure of near absolute powers, while Islamists rushed to complete a new constitution, the issue at the heart of the dispute. The moves came a day after at least 200,000 protesters filled Cairo’s central Tahrir Square to denounce the decrees Morsi issued last week, which place him above oversight of any kind, including by the courts.Threatening to turn the dispute into violent street clashes, the Muslim Brotherhood and the more radical Islamist Salafi Al-Nour party, called for a counter-demonstration this weekend in Tahrir Square, where Morsi’s opponents have been holding a sit-in for over a week.Morsi has said the decrees are necessary to protect the “revolution” that helped drive Hosni Mubarak from office last year as well as the nation’s transition to democratic rule. The constitutional declaration also provides the 100-member panel drafting a new constitution with immunity from the courts. In a sign the dispute may take a sharp turn, the Supreme Constitutional Court said in a statement that it will go ahead with plans to rule Sunday on whether to dissolve the assembly writing the new constitution, which is dominated by the Brotherhood and its Islamist allies.

Op-Ed: Dear Mr. Yehoshua, Hamas are Terrorists

Published: Wednesday, November 28, 2012 10:05 PM
A letter to the famous leftist Israeli man of letters, who has asked Israel to strike a deal with Hamas.

Il Giornale, November 27th, 2012, sent to ArutzSheva  in translation by the author

A. B. Yehoshua is a great author and a long standing friend of mine. Despite an old, very interesting book of his about Zionism, Bouli, as everyone calls him, is truly a Zionist, who only sees in politics what his highly talented artistic dreams point out for him; fiction rather than reality is his specialty. So when yesterday, he asked Israel to strike a deal with Hamas on La Stampa, he repeated the same mistakes he’s made a thousand times in the conviction that in order to make peace with the Arabs just ask them, say please and give them a good gift - that would suffice.

For some strange reason the whole ideology factor totally eludes him, which in the case of Hamas is certainly of paramount importance. It’s not that Bibi Netanyahu, as Yeoshua likes to say, gave Hamas the title of “terror organization” rather than “foe”, shunning in this way any possible agreements: no, Hamas is a terrorist group as per the International declaration.,The European Union put Hamas on its list, as did the US too, not just Israel. Hamas, unlike Jordan and Egypt, is neither a state nor a statutory enemy; its goal, as enshrined by its Charter to which it is faithful (please, take a look at it, it’s a fascinating read into the horror), is to destroy Israel and kill all Jews, A. B. Yehoshua included.Jordan, like Syria and Egypt, doesn’t have this aim as a principle in its constitution. Their behavior in the course of the different wars has certainly been cruel and unforgivable: but none of the adjacent states has as its main purpose to destroy Israel and kill all Jews one by one, all over the world. It is therefore possible -maybe - to make peace with them. Hamas on the contrary, does not exist but for the sole purposes of waging war on the West in order to institute Shariah law, ando teaching children to become shahid. The recognition sought by Hamas is a leadership medal in Shariah, its main aspiration being that Heads of States who visit proclaim to the whole world Hamss' right to be the best butcher of Israel, not its partner.

Bouli’s request will become a medal that Hamas will pin upon its chest so as to state: you see, how frightened the Israelis are of our desire to tear them to pieces? A.B. Yeoshua asked for an agreement. In the Middle Eastern mind-set this is a serious blunder, if you are afraid you’re dead, if you ask for peace while the other is declaring eternal war you are less than a coward trying to escape. It would be good to bargain with the Palestinian Arabs about a “reasonable partition”, but what was possible for King Hussein or Sadat doesn’t work with Ismail Haniye or Khaled Mashaal.Hamas has got nothing to gain in asking for a “reasonable partition”, it is not interested in two states for two peoples. There would be three anyway, considering that Hamas, as everyone will surely remember, hates the PLO. It does not wish to unite with Abbas, but to swallow him into one single ferocious Hamasland.

Hamas is not barricaded in a strip of land; the crossings are open for humanitarian aid and for power, water, medications, and the Internet flow from Israel. It might be expected that all of this burden be taken on by Egypt, which should unlock its doors, as it’s the natural outlet, vast and promising for an Arab population. Egypt, for sure, is not Israel, the country where they are known for infiltrating, bringing, as they’ve always done, suicide terrorism and  hostile smuggling.Yehoshua can’t expect that an opening with Gaza can be fruitful for peace, he knows what fruits it would bear, as he also knows that Abbas wouldn’t be happy with it. He doesn’t want to see Hamas intrude to his home. Bouli knows that it was not the elections which conferred Hamas absolute power in Gaza, but the war between the two parties. Someone might still remember that Al Fatah henchmen were thrown off the roofs in Gaza by their fellow Arabs.
Historically, all Palestinian Arabs strongly dismiss the idea of considering Israel a neighbor; instead, they see it as a foreign body to the point that even PLO, led by Arafat in the past, currently by Abbas, aborted one by one all of the attempted agreements in the past years. The Palestinian Authority doesn’t seek to strike a deal, which, as Bouli overtly puts it, can’t sign without Hamas: on the contrary, it praises terror and war and it’s forwarding the bid for a unilateral statehood to the UN on Thursday, without negotiations, without sitting down with the Jews, with Bouli himself.PA folks are not seeking an agreement; it would cost them the dishonor of the entire Islamist religious world, not to mention Hamas. A new Middle East is surely rising on the horizon, you are correct Bouli, but in the aftermath of the Arab Revolutions the Muslim Brotherhood, which Hamas belongs to, is pursuing a worldwide caliphate: Israel will be its first, tastiest bite.

EU countries declare position on Palestine's UN bid

Today @ 09:37 NOV 28,12 By Andrew Rettman
BRUSSELS - France has said it will vote Yes in a UN vote on making Palestine into an "observer state," but the UK will only back the move with strings attached.
  • Palestine's UN resolution says Jerusalem should be a shared capital (Photo: Hadar)(THE BIBLE SAYS THATS WHY WW3 OCCURS BECAUSE JERUSALEM IS DIVIDED)(WARNING ARAB/MUSLIMS)(LOSING 350 MILLION OF YOUR CITIZENS FOR BEING MULE HEADED.

French foreign minister Laurent Fabius told parliament on Tuesday (27 November): "You know that for years and years France's consistent position has been the recognition of the Palestinian state ... That is why when the question is raised [in New York] on Thursday and Friday, France will respond with a 'Yes'."
The French decision comes as no surprise.France, along with 10 other EU countries last year voted to admit Palestine to the UN's cultural heritage agency, Unesco.EU diplomats expect that most of the group-of-11 will take the same line on the UN "state" vote.Denmark on Tuesday restated its Unesco position by publicly joining France in the Yes camp. "It is an ambition that we support wholeheartedly," its foreign minister, Villy Sovdnal, told the Berlingske daily. But some countries have changed their mind.Belgium, which voted Yes on Unesco, plans to abstain on the statehood vote, its foreign ministry's spokesman told the Le Soir daily on Tuesday.Meanwhile, the UK, which abstained last year, has indicated it will vote Yes, but with conditions.
Foreign minister William Hague told Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas by phone late on Monday that he will back the UN bid if Palestine binds itself not to use its new status to file anti-Israeli cases at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.A positive UK vote would be a coup for the Palestinian side. But Palestine's EU ambassador, Leila Shahid, told EUobserver the ICC conditionality is not acceptable.
"We will not give up any rights which the status gives us. We are equal people to those others who have this status, including the right to go to the ICC," she said. She noted the vote will in any case go through because a majority of UN members already recognise Palestine on a bilateral basis. But she said European support would have important "symbolic" value due to the EU's financial and political clout in the region: "It will not change anything on the ground, but symbolically and in terms of the legal framework, in terms of the symbolic recognition of the capital and the borders and the right of the refugees, it is very important."For their part, the US and Israel say the move will harm the prospect of restarting peace talks."It's a British call how they want to take this forward. They know exactly where we stand," US state department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said on Tuesday."It enflames the situation between the parties and makes it harder for them to come to the table, makes the political situation harder between them," she added. But Palestine believes UN status is the only way to protect its land in the face of decades-long Israeli settlement expansion."There isn't a third alternative - either you accept the fact that going to the UN is a non-violent and diplomatic way of building a Palestinian state, or you can't give moral lessons to the Palestinians and tell them to face [Israeli] F16s and F15s with their bare hands," Shahid said.

France to Vote For Palestinian Statehood, U.S. and Israel Not So Keen

The French government has announced that it will support a resolution that would recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations in a vote at the U.N. General Assembly this week. Palestine is currently an observer at the U.N. The resolution would recognize Palestine as a nonmember observer state. The U.K. has said it may support the resolution with some conditions. British officials want Palestinian authorities to stop pursuing Israel for war crimes and resume peace talks. As it stands the resolution is almost certainly going to pass despite objections from Israel and the U.S. When asked about the issue last week U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice said:Our goal remains a negotiated, two-state solution. A Jewish democratic state of Israel living side by side in peace and security with an independent, viable Palestinian state. The only way to accomplish that in the real world is through direct negotiations, and we continue to urge the parties to come back to the table and to resume those direct negotiations. We view unilateral steps, including the bid for upgraded status to statehood—observer state status at the General Assembly—to be counterproductive and not take us closer to that goal, and, therefore, we strongly oppose it. Israel and the U.S. could respond to the passing of the resolution in a few ways:The US and Israel have both hinted at possible retaliation if the vote goes ahead. Congress could block payments to the Palestinian Authority and Israel might freeze tax revenues it transfers under the 1993 Oslo agreement or, worse, withdraw from the agreement altogether. It could also annex West Bank settlements. Britain's position is that it wants to reduce the risk that such threats might be implemented and bolster Palestinian moderates.

Following European countries, Britain may support Palestinian status upgrade at UN

UK said seeking pledge from Abbas that he won’t attempt to have Israel prosecuted in international courts and will resume peace talks right away

The Palestinians’ bid for upgraded, non-member observer state status at the United Nations received major boosts Tuesday as, after France, Spain and Switzerland announced that they would support the move, Britain indicated that it might do likewise, subject to certain assurances from the Palestinian leadership.
On Wednesday, Norway and Denmark also said they would vote “yes” on the Palestinian proposal.  Australia said it will abstain.Although the motion appeared to be virtually assured of passage at the General Assembly in any case, Western powers had hesitated to offer their support while the United States and Israel opposed it.But Britain reportedly indicated it could back the Palestinian delegation in the UN vote on Thursday, on the condition that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas commit to not using the new status to pursue war crimes charges against Israel in the International Criminal Court or the International Court of Justice, and to resume peace talks with the Jewish state. Britain’s Foreign Secretary William Hague has reportedly been holding telephone talks with Abbas on the issue.PA official Tawfiq Tirawi had told Reuters that the Palestinians would take Israel to task for Yasser Arafat’s assassination at the International Criminal Court in the Hague.“We need proof in order to find those who are behind this assassination and take it to the ICC,” he said. “When we have proof, we will go to the ICC for it to be our first case to try those whose policy is assassinations,” he added.Later on Tuesday, though, Palestinian UN observer Riyad Mansour told a news conference at the United Nations that the Palestinians would not rush to sign up to the International Criminal Court. The British government has “signalled it would change tack and vote yes if the Palestinians modified their application,” The Guardian said Tuesday. “Whitehall officials said the Palestinians were now being asked to refrain from applying for membership of the international criminal court or the international court of justice, which could both be used to pursue war crimes charges or other legal claims against Israel. Abbas is also being asked to commit to an immediate resumption of peace talks ‘without preconditions’ with Israel. The third condition is that the general assembly’s resolution does not require the UN security council to follow suit.”The Guardian also said the PA has been telling the US and Europe that if it does not receive support for its UN bid, Hamas would be strengthened, and the assertion that violence rather than diplomacy pays, potent in the wake of Hamas’s claimed “victory” after the recent eight-day conflict with Israel, would be further vindicated among Palestinians. Some European diplomats have warned that “failure to support Abbas could risk further undermining his increasingly weak position, to Hamas’s advantage,” the Guardian said.It claimed the US and Britain “are attempting to weaken the impact of a UN vote” and quoted Palestinian officials saying Britain and the US have “pressed Abbas to sign a confidential side letter, which would not be presented to the UN general assembly, committing the Palestinian Authority not to accede to the ICC.”Earlier Tuesday, AP reported that France had become the first major European country to come out in favor of the Palestinian motion, with the timing of the announcement appeared to be aimed at swaying other European nations. Switzerland announced it would vote “yes” while Germany was expected to vote “no.”French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius told Parliament that France had long supported Palestinian ambitions for statehood and “will respond ‘Yes’” when the issue comes up for a vote “out of a concern for coherency.”By that point, Israel had already backtracked on its threat to dismantle the Oslo Accords in response to the bid.“We won’t cancel any of our agreements,” a senior official said. However, the official said, Jerusalem still considers Abbas’s unilateral step to seek nonmember state status at the UN a grave violation of agreements signed with Israel, and vowed that Israel would “respond accordingly.”Israel will quietly await Thursday’s vote before deciding on sanctions, the official said. If the Palestinians go ahead with the vote on Thursday, Israel will consider a series of punitive steps, such as seeking to call in Palestinian debts, he added, by way of example.

ISAIAH 30:10-15
10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:
11 Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.
12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon:
13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.
14 And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters’ vessel that is broken in pieces; he shall not spare: so that there shall not be found in the bursting of it a sherd to take fire from the hearth, or to take water withal out of the pit.
15 For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.
16 But ye said, No; for we will flee upon horses; therefore shall ye flee: and, We will ride upon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.

3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Polish Court Bans Kosher Slaughter

Poland’s top court bans ritual slaughter, but move is largely symbolic due to new EU rules.

Poland's top court on Tuesday ruled that the ritual slaughter of animals, a key tenet of the Jewish and Muslim faiths, was illegal, AFP reports. However, the government insisted that new EU rules would still allow the practice. The Constitutional Court's ruling appeared largely symbolic, as it enters into force on January 1, the same day it is over-riden by a European Union directive setting common rules for the production of kosher and halal meat across the 27-nation bloc."There will be no doubt about this as of January 1," Agriculture Minister Stanislaw Kalemba told Polish public radio. But animal rights campaigners questioned that, saying the incoming regulations allowed individual EU member states to request an exception.  "It's up to us to decide whether we want a law authorising this kind of slaughter or not," Dariusz Gzyra of the campaign group Empatia told AFP.Poland enacted legislation to allow ritual slaughter in 2004, the year the country entered the EU. A 1997 law had banned slaughter without the prior stunning of animals on humane grounds. Stunning is inconsistent with the rules of slaughter of both Judaism and Islam.Poland's chief prosecutor turned to the Constitutional Court in June at the behest of animal rights groups. The issue lacks the same politically tinged feel as in west European countries with large Muslim communities, were some opponents are accused of exploiting animal welfare campaigning for racist reasons. Jews and Muslims represent a tiny minority of several tens of thousands in this overwhelmingly Catholic nation of 38 million. But kosher meat in particular has a symbolic pull because Poland was Europe's Jewish heartland until Nazi Germany killed the vast majority of the community during World War II.Poland is also a leading producer of both kosher and halal meat for export to other European countries. The country is home to two dozen abattoirs specialized in kosher and halal slaughter, with the value of last year's exports estimated at 200 million euros ($259 million).

Moshe Feiglin leads hardliners’ rise on Likud’s Knesset slate, at expense of moderates

‘This is just the beginning,’ says Feiglin. ‘Eventually, we will build the temple and fulfill our purpose in this land’; veteran Begin could lose his seat, Meridor almost certainly will

November 27, 2012, 12:55 am 18-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL
Members of the governing Likud party on Monday selected a strongly right-wing slate of candidates for the January 22 Knesset elections, elevating hardliners and relegating moderates. The figurehead of the party’s far-right stream, Moshe Feiglin, won 15th slot, and thus is all-but guaranteed a Knesset seat after years of failure. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may have various procedural and legal means to tinker with the final arrangement of the Knesset slate, but Feiglin’s high placement means it may not be possible for Netanyahu to sideline the hardliner as he has done in the past.“If someone wanted to create the most right-wing Likud list possible, this would be it,” commented Channel 2 political analyst Rina Matsliah, when the results were announced late on Monday. “This looks like a list for the [far-right] National Union,” another commentator agreed.“This is just the beginning,” Feiglin said. Eventually, Channel 10 quoted him as saying, “we will build the temple on the Temple Mount and fulfill our purpose in this land.”MK Zahava Gal-On, the head of the leftist Meretz party, declared that the liberal Likud party of yore “has breathed its last… It’s scary to think what is going to happen here if the Likud stays in power.”While Feiglin, head of the Likud’s “Jewish leadership” faction, fared well in the party primaries, moderate Likud veterans such as Ministers Dan Meridor and Michael Eitan found themselves in unrealistic spots.Minister without Portfolio Benny Begin, son of the late Likud prime minister Menachem Begin, and ex-Kadima MK and Shin Bet chief Avi Dichter, the outgoing home front defense minister, were also placed in low slots.Netanyahu could make adjustments that might save Begin’s seat, but Meridor may have placed too low for even that possibility. As party chairman, Netanyahu is the automatic first place on the Likud’s list for the 19th Knesset. In Monday’s primaries, he was followed by Education Minister Gideon Sa’ar, Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan, Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom and Transportation and National Infrastructure Minister Yisrael Katz. Deputy Knesset Speaker Danny Danon, a hardliner and relentless critic of US President Barack Obama’s positions on Israel who is concluding his first term in parliament, took sixth spot, followed by Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin. However, the Likud will be running on a joint list with Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman — who will be in No. 2 spot on the merged list — and his Yisrael Beytenu party. After Netanyahu and Liberman, every two Likud candidates will be followed by a Yisrael Beytenu candidate. This, and other potential adjustments by Netanyahu, could yet somewhat alter the final roster. Furthermore, the Likud slate has preferred slots for women candidates, and district candidates, which will mean additional adjustments. The top woman in the Likud primaries was Tzipi Hotovely, and the next woman was Miri Regev. Both are known for their far-right and nationalist positions; Regev notoriously described illegal Sudanese migrants to Israel as a cancer during protests earlier this year. Former Minister Tzachi Hanegbi, who returned to the Likud after two terms as Kadima MK and a corruption conviction, snagged the 17th slot.MK Carmel Shama Hacohen, in a poor 21st place, said he was uncomfortable with the results, pointing particularly to the fact that Begin and Meridor were placed outside the top 35.All parties vying for Knesset seats must present their final lists of candidates by December 6.Nearly 100 people competed in the Likud primaries, but only the 25 or so best-placed candidates have a realistic chance to be elected.Recent polls predict between 35 and 40 seats for Likud Beytenu, the joint list of Likud and Yisrael Beytenu. Spots on the list will be allocated based on the two parties’ strength in the outgoing Knesset (where Likud had 27 and Yisrael Beytenu 15 seats). After the two party chairmen — Netanyahu and Liberman — in the two top slots, the sequences of two spots for a Likud candidate followed by one for a Yisrael Beytenu candidate do allow the prime minister some room for maneuver. He could, for example, strike a deal with Liberman to have some of his favorite candidates who placed low in the primaries run on spots reserved for Yisrael Beytenu candidates. This could be an option, for example, for former Israeli ambassador to the US and ex-MK Zalman Shoval, a Netanyahu favorite. It is hard to see how a move like this could harm Feiglin’s elevated position, however. Some 60 percent of the Likud’s 123,351 registered members cast their votes over two days. Due to computer glitches the vote, which started on Sunday morning and was initially scheduled to close that day at 10 p.m., was extended until Monday night.

It’s the blocs, stupid

More than Livni snatching seats from Lapid and Labor, or Likud losing spots to the right, Israel’s political scene will be shaped by the larger divide between right and center-left

November 27, 2012, 11:20 pm 0-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL
For an outsider looking in, or even an insider looking out, Israel’s political arena looks to be diffusing.
Between Tzipi Livni’s announcement of her new party Tuesday, and  Likud’s sharp turn right a day before, which left several political strongmen in the cold, and Ehud Barak’s retirement and abandonment of his political allies, the race to the Knesset seems to be an every man for himself-type battle. But the fact remains that it’s the political blocs, right and left, that will determine the face of Israel after the January 22 elections, and not the individual moves that look like bombshells today. While the rest of the world stopped caring about Israel once the bombs stopped dropping in Gaza and Israel’s south, journalists here have had a field day this week covering all the political news — and it’s only Tuesday.Mere days after Operation Pillar of Defense ended with a much discussed (and much derided) ceasefire, Defense Minister Ehud Barak announced his retirement. Likud, Israel’s ruling party, elected a new Knesset slate that is so far to the right that it no longer has space for “moderates” such as Benny Begin and Dan Meridor. Former Kadima chief and foreign minister Tzipi Livni announced the creation of a new party, The Movement, which was slammed by all sides: the left, the right and even the center, the political camp to which she supposedly belongs.
Later this week, on Thursday, the Labor party will hold its primaries, which will undoubtedly catapult some fresh faces into realistic spots on the list of what will likely be the Knesset’s second-largest party.
But the devil is not always in the details. Amid all the discussion of whether this party can steal a few mandates away from that party, or whether these two candidates should run together because they are dividing a unified camp, it is easy to overlook the big picture. There are two main camps in Israel: a right-wing bloc and a center-left bloc. And poll after poll after poll shows that the former will have the upper hand come Election Day.Let’s start with Likud. The election of a thoroughly far-right Knesset list, which includes hardliners like Moshe Feiglin — whom Netanyahu successfully booted from a high spot on the party slate last time around — can certainly be described as a political earthquake.Having too many hardliners on his list does not bode well for Netanyahu, who has tried to appear as a moderate willing to engage in realpolitik. In the 18th Knesset, he had to rein in rightist MKs who supported an annexation of the West Bank several times. The Tzipi Hotovelys, Danny Danons and Ze’ev Elkins are likely to push this and other controversial legislation in the 19th Knesset, and it remains to be seen how Netanyahu will deal with such pressures.Begin, Meridor and Michael Eitan were all punished by the Likud membership for their “moderate” positions, despite their veteran statuses. Despite the rightward turn, Netanyahu will try his utmost to get at least Begin back into his next cabinet. Channel 2 reported on Tuesday that the prime minister had already promised Begin a ministerial position, in the likely case that Likud wins the elections. Some analysts believe a Likud tilting so heavily to the right may snatch a few Knesset seats from the far-right Jewish Home and National Union parties, which are running on a joint ticket. But what matters more than one or two seats going to the right is whether any Likud voters jump ship into the arms of Livni, Yair Lapid or any of the other center-leftists.The same is true for the center-left bloc. Labor chairwoman Shelly Yachimovich attacked Livni on Tuesday for creating another party in that bloc — a fifth! — that already includes Labor, Kadima, Barak’s now impotent Independence and Lapid’s Yesh Atid. But Livni defended herself by saying the she joined the race, not to divide, but to enlarge the center-left camp.“I decided to give an answer to people who don’t have anyone to vote for,” Livni said, implying that she would hope to attract voters who ideologically belong in the center-left corner but do not contemplate voting for either Labor, Yesh Atid or, less likely, Independence or Kadima. But the polls prove her wrong. According to a handful of surveys published since it has become apparent that Livni would run with a new party, she would get nine or 10 Knesset seats. But it’s not clear that she wouldn’t just be stealing seats from her ideological brethren — thus creating movement, but not pushing the center-left bloc (which includes the far-left Meretz party and the Arab lists) forward. Two handfuls of Knesset mandates is impressive, given the fact that Livni has yet to present her team or convincingly explain what she has that other centrist candidates don’t have, and that, during the last Knesset, she headed the largest party, with 28 mandates, but was still unable to build a government.Yet the fact is that, even in the polls that predict Livni’s awkwardly named Movement will win nine or 10 seats, the center-left bloc still lags far behind the right-wing bloc which includes Likud-Beytenu, Shas, Jewish Home/National Union, United Torah Judaism and Am Shalem, a new party by Shas breakaway Rabbi Haim Amsellem. In virtually all recent polls — taken before, during and after Operation Pillar of Defense — the right-wingers get about 66-70 seats, while the opposing camp gets about 50-54 seats. Some analysts said that former prime minister Ehud Olmert would be the only person who could significantly shake up Israel’s left-right structure. But he is reportedly not running, so we will never know. In the meantime, the divide between the two camps seems deep and unbridgeable, which means that, on January 22, Netanyahu is likely to cruise to an easy reelection, even with a relatively weak plurality. It will be interesting to see how the so-called Feiglins will change the face of a Likud bereft of moderating counterweights. Or whether the leaders of the various centrist parties can somehow manage to put their egos aside and combine forces. But in the big scheme of things, it doesn’t really matter if Livni runs alone or as Yachimochiv’s number two. Nothing short of a real political earthquake — one that would unsettle the gridlocked tectonics of Israel’s two-camp system — will endanger the right-wing’s victory.

EZEKIEL 12:25
25  For I am the LORD: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall be no more prolonged: will I say the word, and will perform it, saith the Lord GOD.

EZEKIEL 5:17
17  So will I send upon you famine and evil beasts, and they shall bereave thee; and pestilence and blood shall pass through thee; and I will bring the sword upon thee. I the LORD have spoken it.

EZEKIEL 38:1-12
1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog,(RULER) the land of Magog,(RUSSIA) the chief prince of Meshech(MOSCOW)and Tubal,(TOBOLSK) and prophesy against him,
3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog,(LEADER OF RUSSIA) the chief prince of Meshech(MOSCOW) and Tubal:TOBOLSK)
4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws,(GOD FORCES THE RUSSIA-MUSLIMS TO MARCH) and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
5 Persia,(IRAN,IRAQ) Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:
6 Gomer,(GERMANY) and all his bands; the house of Togarmah (TURKEY)of the north quarters, and all his bands:(SUDAN,AFRICA) and many people with thee.
7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.(RUSSIA-EGYPT AND MUSLIMS)
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.

EZEKIEL 39:1-8,11-18
1 Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog,(LEADER OF RUSSIA) and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech (MOSCOW) and Tubal: (TUBOLSK)
2 And I will turn thee back,(RUSSIA-ARAB MUSLIM ISRAEL HATERS) and leave but the sixth part of thee,(5/6TH OR 300 MILLION DEAD I BELIEVE) and will cause thee to come up from the north parts,(RUSSIA) and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands,( ARABS) and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6 And I will send a fire on Magog,(NUCLEAR BOMB) and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
8 Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken.
11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog (RUSSIA/ARAB/MUSLIMS) a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers (EAST OF THE DEAD SEA IN JORDAN VALLEY) on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog (RUSSIAN) and all his multitude:(ARAB/MUSLIM HORDE) and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog.(BURIEL SITE OF THE 300 MILLION,RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIMS)
12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land.(OF ISRAEL)
13 Yea, all the people of the land (OF ISRAEL) shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I (GOD-JESUS) shall be glorified, saith the Lord GOD.
14 And they shall sever out men of continual employment,(NUCLEAR BOMB EXPERTS) passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search.
15 And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man’s bone, then shall he set up a sign by it,(WON'T TOUCH IT) till the buriers have buried it (PROPERLY) in the valley of Hamongog.(RUSSIA/ARAB/MUSLIMS NEW BURIEL SITE)
16 And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land.(OF THE ISRAEL-GOD HATERS)
17 And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl,(500 MILLION MIGRATING BIRDS THREW ISRAEL EVERY SPRING,FALL) and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.(OF THE RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIM ARMIES)
18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
19 And ye (MIGRATING BIRDS IN ISRAEL) shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.(RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIM ISRAEL HATERS)
20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.
21 And I (GOD-JESUS) will set my glory among the heathen,(WORLD NATIONS) and all the heathen (WORLD NATIONS) shall see my judgment that I have executed,(AGAINST ISRAELS ENEMIES) and my (GODS) hand that I have laid upon them.(ISRAELS HATER ENEMIES)

Future Palestinian state to try Israel at ICC for Arafat assassination, official says

Head of committee investigating late leader’s death says ‘those whose policy is assassinations’ will be tried

November 28, 2012, 1:28 am 0-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

With the Palestinian Authority on the cusp of submitting its request for nonmember status to the United Nations General Assembly, one Palestinian official on Tuesday said the future state’s first move in the international arena will be trying Israel in court for Yasser Arafat’s death. The Palestinian Authority exhumed Arafat’s remains on Tuesday, just over 12 years after he died from an unidentified illness, in order to determine the cause of his death. Al Jazeera published a report earlier this year positing a Swiss university team had discovered traces of radioactive polonium on Arafat’s effects, prompting Palestinian leaders to unearth his remains and learn whether Arafat was assassinated by poisoning.Tawfiq Tirawi, the head of the Palestinian investigation committee responsible for conducting Arafat’s autopsy, said the Palestinians would take Israel to task for his assassination at the International Criminal Court in the Hague.“We need proof in order to find those who are behind this assassination and take it to the ICC,” Tirawi told Reuters.
“When we have proof, we will go to the ICC for it to be our first case to try those whose policy is assassinations,” he said, alluding to Israel’s decades-old policy of target killings against Palestinian terrorist leaders. Results from autopsying Arafat’s remains will not be conclusively determined until Spring 2013, according to Dr. Abdullah al Bashir, the head of the Palestinian medical committee.PA President Mahmoud Abbas will ask the Assembly to vote on recognition of Palestine as a nonmember state on Thursday, November 29 — 65 years after the original UN vote on partitioning British Mandate Palestine into Jewish and Arab states.Although a Palestinian state would not have a vote in the General Assembly, it could gain membership of the International Court of Justice or the International Criminal Court, and potentially take action against Israel at those bodies.

Egypt protests continue in deadlock over Mursi powers

CAIRO (Reuters) - Hundreds of protesters were in Cairo's Tahrir Square for a sixth day on Wednesday, demanding that Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi rescind a decree they say gives him dictatorial powers.
Five months into the Islamist leader's term, and in scenes reminiscent of the popular uprising that unseated predecessor Hosni Mubarak last year, police fired teargas at stone-throwers following protests by tens of thousands on Tuesday against the declaration that expanded Mursi's powers and put his decisions beyond legal challenge.Protesters say they will stay in Tahrir until the decree is withdrawn, bringing fresh turmoil to a nation at the heart of the Arab Spring and delivering a new blow to an economy already on the ropes.
Senior judges have been negotiating with Mursi about how to restrict his new powers, while protesters want him to dissolve an Islamist-dominated assembly that is drawing up a new constitution and which Mursi protected from legal review.Any deal to calm the street will likely need to address both issues. But opposition politicians said the list of demands could grow the longer the crisis goes on. Many protesters want the cabinet, which meets on Wednesday, to be sacked, too.Mursi's administration insists that his actions were aimed at breaking a political logjam to push Egypt more swiftly towards democracy, an assertion his opponents dismiss."The president wants to create a new dictatorship," said 38-year-old Mohamed Sayyed Ahmed, who has not had a job for two years. He is one of many in the square who are as angry over economic hardship as they are about Mursi's actions."We want the scrapping of the constitutional declaration and the constituent assembly, so a new one is created representing all the people and not just one section," he said. The West worries about turbulence in a nation that has a peace treaty with Israel and is now ruled by Islamists they long kept at arms length. The United States, a big donor to Egypt's military, has called for "peaceful democratic dialogue".Two people have been killed in violence since the decree, while low-level clashes between protesters and police have gone on for days near Tahrir. Violence has flared in other cities.
WRANGLES
Trying to ease tensions with judges, Mursi assured Egypt's highest judicial authority that elements of his decree giving his decisions immunity applied only to matters of "sovereign" importance, a compromise suggested by the judges in talks. That should limit it to issues such as declaring war, but experts said there was much room for interpretation. The judges themselves are divided, and the broader judiciary has yet to back the compromise. Some have gone on strike over the decree. The fate of the assembly drawing up the constitution has been at the centre of a wrangle between Islamists and their opponents for months. Many liberals, Christians and more moderate Muslims have walked out, saying their voices are not being heard in the body dominated by Islamists. That has undermined the work of the assembly, which is tasked with shaping Egypt's new democracy. Without a constitution in place, the president's powers are not permanently defined and a new parliament cannot be elected. For now, Mursi holds both executive and legislative powers. His decree says his decisions cannot be challenged until a new parliament is in place. An election is expected in early 2013."If Mursi doesn't respond to the people, they will raise their demands to his removal," said Bassem Kamel, a liberal and former member of the now dissolved parliament that was dominated by Mursi's party, a wing of the Muslim Brotherhood. He said Tuesday's protest showed that Egyptians "understood that the Brotherhood isn't for democracy but uses it as a tool to reach power and then to get rid of it".
Protecting his decisions and the constituent assembly from legal review was a swipe at the judiciary, still largely unreformed since Mubarak's era. In a speech on Friday, Mursi praised the judiciary as a whole but referred to corrupt elements he aimed to weed out.One presidential source said Mursi wanted to re-make the Supreme Constitutional Court, a body of top judges that earlier this year declared the Islamist-led parliament void, leading to its dissolution by the then ruling military. Both Islamists and their opponents broadly agree that the judiciary needs reform, but Mursi's rivals oppose his methods. The courts have dealt a series of blows to Mursi and the Brotherhood. The first constituent assembly, also packed with Islamists, was dissolved. An attempt by Mursi in October to remove the unpopular general prosecutor was also blocked. In his decree, Mursi gave himself the power to sack the prosecutor general and appoint a new one, which he duly did.(Additional reporting by Tamim Elyan; Writing by Edmund Blair; Editing by Will Waterman)

Syria: Twin car bombs in Damascus kill 34 people

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — Twin car bombs ripped through a Damascus suburb on Wednesday, killing at least 34 people and leaving dozens critically wounded, according to state media and hospital officials.
The state news agency, SANA, said two cars packed with explosives detonated early in the morning in the eastern Jaramana suburb, a district that is mostly loyal to President Bashar Assad. The area is populated mostly by Christians and Druse, a minority sect.A series of car and suicide bombings have struck regime targets in Damascus and elsewhere since last December, raising fears of a rising Islamic militant element among the forces seeking to topple Assad.Wednesday's car bombs went off in a parking lot located between two commercial buildings. They were detonated within five minutes of one another as groups of laborers and employees were arriving to work. The blasts shattered windows in nearby buildings, littering the street with glass and debris. Human remains were scattered on the pavement amid pools of blood. After the first explosion, people rushed to help the injured and then the second bomb went off, said Ismail Zlaiaa, 54, who lives in the neighborhood. "It is an area packed with rush-hour passengers," he said, and added: "God will not forgive the criminal perpetrators."Ibtissam Nseir, a 45-year-old school teacher, said the bombing struck minutes before she set off for work. She said there were no troops around the district and wondered why the attackers would target it. Nseir blamed opposition fighters for the attack."Is this the freedom which they want? Syria is a secure country and it will remain so," she said. There were conflicting reports about the death toll. Two hospital officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media, said at least 30 bodies were brought to two nearby hospitals. The Britain-based Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on reports from the ground, said 29 people were killed. The different tolls could not immediately be reconciled. The regime restricts independent media coverage.Syria's conflict started 20 months ago as an uprising against Assad, whose family has ruled the country for four decades. It quickly morphed into a civil war, with rebels taking up arms to fight back against a bloody crackdown by the government. According to activists, some 40,000 people have been killed since March 2011.Assad blames the revolt on a conspiracy to destroy Syria, saying the uprising is being driven by foreign "terrorists" — a term the authorities use for the rebels — and not Syrians seeking change.Analysts say most of those fighting Assad's regime are ordinary Syrians and soldiers who have defected, disenchanted with the authoritarian government. But increasingly, foreign fighters and those adhering to an extremist Islamist ideology are turning up on the front lines. The rebels try to play down the Islamists' influence for fear of alienating Western support. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Wednesday's bombings.Rebels fighting to topple Assad are predominantly members of the Sunni Muslim majority. In their push to take Damascus, they have frequently targeted state institutions and troops around the country. They have also often hit districts around the capital with the country's minority communities, perceived to be allied with Assad's Alawite sect, an offshoot Shiite group that dominates the regime.Downtown Damascus — the seat of Assad's power — has also seen scores of car bombs and mortar attacks that have targeted state security institutions and troops, areas with homes of wealthy Syrians, army officers, security officials and other members of the regime.
In May, two suicide car bombers blew themselves up outside a military intelligence building in Damascus, killing at least 55 people. In July, a bomb hit a building in which Cabinet ministers and senior security officials had been meeting, killing the defense minister and his deputy, who is also Assad's brother-in-law. A former defense minister also died in the attack. And in Hama province, 50 soldiers were killed when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden car near an army checkpoint on Nov. 5. It was one of the deadliest single attacks targeting pro-Assad troops during the 20 months of conflict.Jaramana district has been frequently targeted in the past weeks, as the rebels push their way into the capital. Ten people were killed and 41 were injured when a car bomb exploded in the district earlier this month.Elsewhere on Wednesday, fighting between rebels and government troops raged on. Regime war planes struck rebel-held areas in the northern Idlib province and several Damascus suburbs. The Britain-based Observatory said fighter jets carried out five air-raids against the strategic town of Maaret al-Numan, which the rebels captured last month. The Observatory also reported heavy fighting on the town's southern edge, along a highway linking Damascus with Aleppo in the north. The rebels' capture of Maaret al-Numan has cut the government's key supply line to Aleppo, Syria's largest city and a commercial center that has seen clashes between rebels and troops since July.Since the summer, the Syrian military has significantly increased its use of air power in efforts to roll back the rebels' territorial gains, particularly in the northeast, along the border with Turkey.

8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

ISAIAH 24:17-23 KJV
17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.
22 And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

1 This know also, that in the last days perilous (DANGEROUS) times shall come.

JOEL 2:3,30
3 A fire devoureth before them;(ATOMIC BOMB) and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

ZECHARIAH 14:12-13
12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.
13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.(1/2-3 BILLION DIE IN WW3)(THIS IS AN ATOMIC BOMB EFFECT)

EZEKIEL 20:47
47 And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.

ZEPHANIAH 1:18
18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD'S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

MALACHI 4:1
1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

REVELATION 8:7
7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

REVELATION 9:18
18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.

MATTHEW 24:37-51
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken,(IN WW3 JUDGEMENT) and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken,(IN WW3 JUDGEMENT) and the other left.
42 Watch therefore:(FOR THE LAST DAYS SIGNS HAPPENING) for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Iranian scientists running simulations of large nuclear weapon

Diagram suggests Tehran’s planned bomb would be three times stronger than Hiroshima blast

November 27, 2012, 7:00 pm 1-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

VIENNA (AP) — Iranian scientists have run computer simulations for a nuclear weapon that would produce more than triple the explosive force of the World War II bomb that destroyed Hiroshima, according to a diagram obtained by The Associated Press. The diagram was leaked by officials from a country critical of Iran’s atomic program to bolster their arguments that Iran’s nuclear program must be halted before it produces a weapon. The officials provided the diagram only on condition that they and their country not be named. The International Atomic Energy Agency — the Vienna-based U.N. nuclear watchdog — reported last year that it had obtained diagrams indicating that Iran was calculating the “nuclear explosive yield” of potential weapons. A senior diplomat who is considered neutral on the issue confirmed that the graph obtained by the AP was indeed one of those cited by the IAEA in that report. He spoke only on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the issue. The undated diagram that was given to the AP by officials of a country critical of Iran’s atomic program allegedly calculating the explosive force of a nuclear weapon. The curve peaks at just above 50 kilotons at around 2 microseconds, reflecting the full force of the weapon being modeled. The Farsi writing at the bottom translates “changes in output and in energy released as a function of time through power pulse” (photo credit: AP)The IAEA report mentioning the diagrams last year did not give details of what they showed. But the diagram seen by the AP shows a bell curve — with variables of time in micro-seconds, and power and energy both in kilotons — the traditional measurement of the energy output, and hence the destructive power of nuclear weapons. The curve peaks at just above 50 kilotons at around 2 microseconds, reflecting the full force of the weapon being modeled. The bomb that the United States dropped on Hiroshima in Japan during World War II, in comparison, had a force of about 15 kilotons. Modern nuclear weapons have yields hundreds of times higher than that. The diagram has a caption in Farsi: “Changes in output and in energy released as a function of time through power pulse.” The number “5” is part of the title, suggesting it is part of a series.David Albright, whose Institute for Science and International Security is used by the U.S. government as a go-to source on Iran’s nuclear program, said the diagram looks genuine but seems to be designed more “to understand the process” than as part of a blueprint for an actual weapon in the making.“The yield is too big,” Albright said, noting that North Korea’s first tests of a nuclear weapon were only a few kilotons. Because the graph appears to be only one in a series, others might show lower yields, closer to what a test explosion might produce, he said. The senior diplomat said the diagram was part of a series of Iranian computer-generated models provided to the IAEA by the intelligences services of member nations for use in its investigations of suspicions that Iran is trying to produce a nuclear weapon. Iran denies any interest in such a weapon and has accused the United States and Israel of fabricating evidence that suggests it is trying to build a bomb.Asked about the project, Iran’s chief IAEA delegate, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, said he had not heard of it. IAEA spokeswoman Gill Tudor said the agency had no comment.Iran has refused to halt uranium enrichment, despite offers of reactor fuel from abroad, saying it is producing nuclear fuel for civilian uses. It has refused for years to cooperate with the U.N. nuclear agency’s efforts to investigate its program.Iran’s critics fear it could use the enriched uranium for military purposes. Such concerns grew this month when the IAEA said Iran is poised to double its output of higher-enriched uranium at its fortified underground facility — a development that could put Tehran within months of being able to make the core of a nuclear warhead. In reporting on the existence of the diagrams last year, the IAEA said it had obtained them from two member nations that it did not identify. Other diplomats have said that Israel and the United States — the countries most concerned about Iran’s nuclear program — have supplied the bulk of intelligence being used by the IAEA in its investigation.“The application of such studies to anything other than a nuclear explosive is unclear to the agency,” the IAEA said at the time. The models were allegedly created in 2008 and 2009 — well after 2003, the year that the United States said Tehran had suspended such work in any meaningful way. That date has been questioned by Britain, France, Germany and Israel, and the IAEA now believes that — while Iran shut down some of its work back then — other tests and experiments continue today. With both the IAEA probe and international attempts to engage Iran stalled, there are fears that Israel may opt to strike at Tehran’s nuclear program. The Jewish state insists it will not tolerate an Iran armed with nuclear arms.An intelligence summary provided with the drawing linked it to other alleged nuclear weapons work — significant because it would indicate that Iran is working not on isolated experiments, but rather on a single program aimed at mastering all aspects of nuclear arms development. The IAEA suspects that Iran has conducted live tests of conventional explosives that could be used to detonate a nuclear weapon at Parchin, a sprawling military base southeast of Tehran. The intelligence summary provided to the AP said data gained from those tests fed the model plotted in the diagram. Iran has repeatedly turned down IAEA requests to visit the site, which the agency fears is undergoing a major cleanup meant to eliminate any traces of such experiments. The intelligence summary named nuclear scientists Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, Majid Shahriari and Fereidoun Abbasi as key players in developing the computer diagrams, adding that Shahriari and Abbasi were also involved in the Parchin testing.Iran has for years rebuffed IAEA attempts to question Fakhrizadeh for his suspected involvement in secret programs. Shahriari was assassinated in 2010 by what Iran says were Israeli agents. Abbasi, now the head of Iran’s nuclear agency, was wounded in a separate assassination attempt the same day that Shahriari was killed. The senior diplomat, who is familiar with the Iran probe, said the agency has not yet determined any connection between Parchin and the computer models. But Olli Heinonen, who headed the IAEA’s Iran investigation until 2010, said using the results of the alleged Parchin tests would “make sense as part of the design and testing of a (computer) model.”

DANIEL 11:40-43
40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south ( EGYPT) push at him:(EU DICTATOR IN ISRAEL) and the king of the north (RUSSIA AND MUSLIM HORDES OF EZEK 38+39) shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.(JORDAN)
42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.

TROUBLE IN THE HOLY LAND

Is Egypt's president fulfilling biblical prophecy?

Exclusive: Joel Richardson points to 2 Old Testament Scriptures

On Feb. 11, 2011, addressing the success of Egypt’s revolution, which he himself enthusiastically supported, President Barack Obama stood in the Grand Foyer of the White House and triumphantly declared, “The people of Egypt have spoken, their voices have been heard, and Egypt will never be the same.”But the fruit of this change quickly became bitter to the Egyptian people. It is now becoming clear that the Egyptian people have traded a more secular autocrat for an Islamist dictator. As Americans everywhere stopped to celebrate Thanksgiving Day, Egyptian President Morsi appeared on Egyptian television and shocked the nation, issuing a presidential decree effectively banning all challenges to his decrees, laws and decisions. The decree stated:“The president can issue any decision or measure to protect the revolution. … The constitutional declarations, decisions and laws issued by the president are final and not subject to appeal.”
The decree also stated that the courts have no authority to dissolve the country’s Constituent Assembly, which is now rewriting the constitution.Disparate groups within and outside of Egypt have expressed their alarm.Within Egypt’s Constituent Assembly, various secularist opponents to Morsi have quit, including Coptic Christians and representatives of the April 6 Youth Movement, the very group that initiated the revolution in Egypt.Mohamed El Baradei, another opponent of Morsi, accused the president of establishing himself as “a new pharaoh.”In a typically toothless statement released Friday, the European Union “urged” Morsi to “respect the democratic process.”In Tahrir Square thousands have gathered to protest what they are referring to as a “coup” carried out by Morsi. Thousands of others are counter-protesting. Violent clashes have broken out in a few cities.Of course, seizing an ever-increasing level of power under the guise of democracy would be the most natural path for Morsi, with Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the north having already demonstrated how it’s done. In fact, Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood in many ways has modeled itself after Turkey’s Islamist political party.Playing off the title of Turkey’s ruling Islamist political party, “The Justice and Development Party,” the Muslim Brotherhood ironically named its political party “The Freedom and Justice Party.”Over the past 10 years, Turkey’s Erdogan has systematically dismantled the most well-established secular form of government in the Middle East, while establishing and guaranteeing his own power for many more years to come – all in the name of “democracy.”The next significant step in Erdogan’s plan to ensconce himself as Turkey’s absolute ruler will come in 2014, when his present term as prime minister will come to an end. Already in the works are Erdogan’s plans to radically alter Turkey’s present parliamentary system to a presidential system, while placing himself on the ticket to be the next president. Beyond this, the present five-year term for president will expand to a seven-year term. If successful, this will guarantee that Erdogan will be able to maintain power until at least 2021.But Erdogan’s ambitions have caused many to believe that he is seeking a leadership role beyond Turkey, throughout the whole region. In a recent interview with Russia Today, Syrian President Basshar al-Assad said of Erdogan, “He personally thinks that he is the new sultan of the Ottoman and he can control the region as it was during the Ottoman Empire under a new umbrella. In his heart he thinks he is a caliph.”But if Muhammad Morsi’s recent actions in seizing greater power are an indicator of things to come, Erdogan may have competition for the title of regional caliph. With the ascendancy of Turkey in the north and Egypt’s new role as an emerging player, could we see two competing caliphates in the region? And as politically significant as all these events are, might they have have deeper significance as they relate to the fulfillment of biblical prophecy? There are two significant passages some students of the Bible are now considering.
The King of the North & The King of the South
The first passage is Daniel 11:21-45. In this prophecy, the Bible addresses the historical conflict between the infamous Antiochus IV Epiphanes, king of the Seleucid Kingdom, referred to as “the King of the North,” and Ptolemy VI, king of the Ptolemaic Kingdom, referred to as “the King of the South.” Antiochus ruled the region of modern-day Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Iran, while Ptolemy ruled the region of modern-day Egypt, Libya and north Sudan. In verse 40, we are informed that the various conflicts that took place historically between these two kings would be repeated in the last days, immediately before the coming of the Messiah:“At the end time the king of the South will collide with him, and the king of the North will storm against him with chariots, with horsemen and with many ships; and he will enter countries, overflow them and pass through. He will also enter the Beautiful Land, and many countries will fall. … Then he will stretch out his hand against other countries, and the land of Egypt will not escape. But he will gain control over the hidden treasures of gold and silver and over all the precious things of Egypt; and Libyans and Cushites will follow at his heels.” (Daniel 11:40-43)The result of this last-days conflict between the northern “king” and his counterpart in the south will include massive regional wars, the defeat of Egypt, Libya and northern Sudan, and ultimately, the invasion and occupation of the nation of Israel. While numerous scholars and expositors throughout history have wrestled over the precise meaning of this passage, some are asking if it is possible that we are now witnessing the emergence of the last-days kingdoms of the North and South. Could Erdogan and Morsi be the last-days kings of the North and South, or are they merely precursors to the actual fulfillment of Daniel 11? Of course, we should be extremely cautious in considering these questions, but students of the Scriptures would certainly do well to remain watchful and in a sober spirit of prayer concerning the momentous evens we are now seeing unfold throughout the Middle East.
Isaiah 19
Another significant passage many are also now looking to is Isaiah 19, a profound prophecy concerning the state of Egypt in the days and years immediately preceding the return of the Messiah. As massive demonstrations rock Egypt, some are protesting against Morsi, while many others are protesting in support of him. As violent clashes between the two groups erupt, it is clear that Egypt is a deeply divided nation. How far will it all go? Could Isaiah’s prophecy of an Egyptian civil war be seen in our day?“So I will incite Egyptians against Egyptians; and they will each fight against his brother and each against his neighbor, city against city and kingdom against kingdom.” (Isaiah 19:2)And if Isaiah’s prophecy is beginning to unfold before us in Egypt, what would this mean with regard to the return of Jesus? Certainly, there are some “signs of the Messiah” the Bible indicates the wise would be able to discern and identify prior to his coming. Some of the more prominent of these signs include the following:
  • The return of the Jewish people to their homeland.
  • The emergence of the kings of the North and the South.
  • A regional security alliance between Israel and her surrounding neighbors.
  • The re-establishment of the biblical sacrificial system on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
Over the past 65 years, we have already witnessed the return of the Jewish people to their homeland in Israel. What might we witness next? One thing is clear: The world is changing rapidly before us, and watchful students of the Bible today must remain sober, alert and in a constant state of prayer as we all together eagerly await the return of Jesus.“Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.”–Matthew 24:33
