WILDFIRES BLAZE TEXAS FURTHUR

FIRES AND EXPLOSIONS

REVELATION 8:7
7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

Wildfires erupt again in parts of parched Texas
10:30PM SEPT 4,11

DALLAS (AP) – Wildfires continued to spread Sunday across East and Central Texas due partly to high winds caused by Tropical Storm Lee and the passage of a cool front, authorities said.Local and state firefighting crews scrambled to contain the blazes, which have destroyed homes and forced evacuations in the parched sections of Texas. Winds were from the north to northeast at 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph and relative humidity at 20 to 30 percent. The National Weather Service said South, Central and East Texas were all under red flag warnings for critical fire conditions until late Sunday night. No injuries were reported. The wildfire threat became so dire in the Austin area of Central Texas that the Austin Fire Department issued a public appeal for any and all available firefighters in the area to report for duty.

Wildfires scorched more than 6,000 acres in Bastrop County, just southeast of Austin. Bastrop police spokesman Michal Hubbard told the Austin American-Statesman that hundreds of homes were evacuated in the vicinity of the county seat and several structures were lost.A wildfire in the Austin suburb of Cedar Park destroyed two homes and damaged two others Sunday. Wildfires also prompted evacuations of other neighborhoods in Cedar Park and some in the nearby Austin suburbs of Pflugerville, Bastrop and near Briarcliff. In Corsicana, about 50 miles south of Dallas, a wildfire spread to and destroyed eight metal industrial shop buildings inside the city. Mayor Chuck McClanahan said fire crews were fighting to keep the flames from reaching wooden structures.Navarro County Judge H.M. Davenport said three wildfires had spread to a total of 2,000 acres and prompted an evacuation of Navarro, a town of about 200 residents about eight miles southeast of Corsicana, and a sparsely settled rural area close to the nearby town of Mildred.Ronnie Willis owns a pasture just east of the Corsicana fire. Embers from the industrial park fire burned his field, and Willis could only watch as the fires leaped across his pastures toward his two massive indoor arenas. My prayer is it doesn't burn up the buildings,he told the Corsicana Daily Sun. The grass will grow back. If it doesn't hurt an animal or burn up the buildings, we can live through it. I just feel sorry for the people whose businesses are being destroyed.Rural neighborhoods in the East Texas counties of Smith, Van Zandt, Gregg and Houston also were evacuated because of scattered, fast-moving wildfires in those areas. There were no immediate reports of home losses.

Fires broke out across Central Texas Sunday. Firefighters said that the hot, dry, windy conditions make this weather, the perfect storm for a fire. All 13 Travis County fire departments worked on grass or brush fires Sunday. Two of the major fires were in Pflugerville. One was located at Hodde Lane and the other was off of Pfluger Street. The fires are not yet contained.A Bastrop fire caused several people to be evacuated. People in the areas of Wilderness Ridge, Cedar Creek and Alan Creek are being asked to leave. The fire is near FM 1441 and Highway 21.A new fire on Griffin League Ranch is moving south and will join with the wildfire. A mandatory evacuation has been issued for all circle D County -- all homes on Schwantz Ranch Road, Old Potato Road and all Highway 21 homes east to Paige. The Bastrop fire has now reached 14,000 acres.A large fire also started in Spicewood. It's off of Haynie Flat Road near the Barton Springs Lake area. All crews in the area are battling the fire. Evacuations are being issued at this time.620 at Steiner Ranch is closed due to the fire. Steiner Ranch is also evacuating. Evacuees may go to Vandergrift High School on 9500 McNeil Dr.A Cedar Park fire has already been contained and extinguished. The fire started behind two houses around 11:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived, the fire had already spread to one backyard. The winds then pushed the flames to the house next door.Residents were home in both houses and escaped in a matter of seconds.Central Texas is still in a red flag warning.

STORMS HURRICANES-TORNADOES

LUKE 21:25-26
25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity;(MASS CONFUSION) the sea and the waves roaring;(FIERCE WINDS)
26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

THE FIRST JUDGEMENT OF THE EARTH STARTED WITH WATER-IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THE LAST GENERATION WILL BE HAVING FLOODING
GENESIS 7:6-12
6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
GOD PROMISED BY A RAINBOW-THE EARTH WOULD NEVER BE DESTROYED TOTALLY WITH A FLOOD AGAIN.BUT FLOODIING IS A SIGN OF JUDGEMENT.

Tropical storm Lee hits Texas with wind, some rain
By Jim Forsyth SAN ANTONIO | Sun Sep 4, 2011 9:29pm EDT

(Reuters) - James Taylor once sang, I've seen fire, and I've seen rain, and Texas was seeing some of both on Sunday, courtesy of Tropical Storm Lee.But unfortunately for the drought-weary state, what Texas got most was the wind: Strong, gusty winds whipping up the wildfires that have burned more than 3.5 million acres of the parched state this season. On Sunday evening, some 1,000 homes were being threatened in Bastrop County, just east of Austin, as a 14,000-acre wildfire raged out of control and caused evacuations. In neighboring Travis County, fires caused evacuations and burned homes in neighborhoods to the north and west of Austin, Texas. The fires have caused officials in Austin to ask local media for help in contacting every available firefighter in the area to help with the blazes. We're a little on edge right now,Texas Forest Service spokesman Tom Berglund told Reuters on Sunday. We have several fires that we thought we had put out, but these winds came up today and started them up again. As for rain, most Texans are going to have to wait a little longer to see the end of a drought that has already caused more than $5 billion in economic losses.Lee flirted with the Texas-Lousiana border but ultimately is expected to avoid the Lone Star State. It sure would have been nice had this storm moved a little to the west and parked itself over Texas for a couple of days, said Ed Levy, a meteorologist at the Weather Channel. The wind is causing problems for firefighters who are battling a dozen brush and grass fires all over the state.Berglund said that in addition to feeding the fires, the winds are also drying out any humidity brought in by the tropical storm, prompting officials to issue a critical fire danger alert for the eastern two thirds of Texas. A red-flag wind advisory was also in effect for parts of Texas.

Adding to the danger are thousands of dove hunters fanning into the woods on the first weekend of the state's huge mourning dove season, and the increased outdoor activities caused by the Labor Day Weekend, officials said. The fire danger we are experiencing poses a severe threat to lives and property, said Texas Forest Service Assistant Director Mark Stanford. This, along with the outdoor activities due to the holiday weekend, will increase the probability for the development of huge and destructive brush fires.Berglund said firefighters had responded to at least two fires Sunday caused by barbecue pits that went out of control due to the wind. One brush fire that scorched several acres was caused by a juvenile burning love letters,Berglund said.I think he was a little surprised that more than the letters ended up burning,he said.Portions of extreme southeastern Texas have gotten several bands of rain from Lee.But Capt. Chris Phillips, who runs fishing charter boats into the Gulf of Mexico with Sabine Outdoor in Sabine Pass, Texas, next to the Louisiana border, said the storm has done little but whip up the waves. We're not going to get out into the Gulf today. The winds are just too strong -- 30 to 40 miles per hour, Phillips said. We did get some rain, and we can sure use it.Phillips said the rain will be good for duck hunters, when Texas duck hunting season begins next weekend.
The problem is, around here, we don't have any fresh water left at all.Southeast Texas as far west as parts of Houston got showers from Lee, Levy said, but they caused more trouble than good.At one point, about 18,000 CenterPoint Energy customers in the Houston area were without electricity, due mainly to power lines downed by gusty winds. The winds should die down across the eastern two thirds of the state by Sunday evening as Lee continues its slow trek eastward, Levy said.

A cold front coming into Texas, while it will not bring rain, will bring another kind of relief: the end of triple-digit temperatures.August in Texas was the hottest single month ever recorded in the state, capping what climatologists say could be the hottest summer on record in the U.S. Most areas have seen little respite from daily highs over 100 degrees since mid-July.High temperatures for most of the state will be in the 90s, but that will feel like a January blizzard to heat weary Texans, Levy said. Forecasts called for lows dipping into the 50s and 60s across Texas throughout the sunny, dry week. We'll get rain one of these days,Levy promised. We need a lot, and the problem is, we'll probably get it all at once.(Edited by Karen Brooks and Greg McCune)

Hurricane Katia intensifies over Atlantic
MIAMI | Sun Sep 4, 2011 6:56pm EDT

(Reuters) - Hurricane Katia intensified over the open Atlantic on Sunday, bulking up to a powerful Category 2 storm, the National Hurricane Center said. The Miami-based hurricane center said it was still too soon to gauge the potential threat to land or to the East Coast with any degree of certainty. But most computer models showed it veering on a northeast track out to sea after moving safely west of the mid-Atlantic island of Bermuda later this week.(Ocean) swells associated with Katia are already approaching parts of the east coast of the United States. Even if Katia does not directly impact the United States, the threat for high surf and rip currents along east coast beaches is expected to increase over the next few days, the hurricane center said.At 5 p.m. EDT, Katia had top sustained winds of 105 miles per hour and was about 365 miles north-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands, the hurricane center said.It said Katia could become a major hurricane on Monday, with maximum sustained winds of at least 111 mph.Uncertainty over the storm's definitive track was partly due to Tropical Storm Lee's presence over the Gulf of Mexico and the effect it could have on Katia's circulation later this week, forecasters said.Katia is the second hurricane of the June-through-November Atlantic hurricane season. The season is entering what has traditionally been its most active period.Several states, including New Jersey and Vermont, are still recovering from extensive flooding caused by Hurricane Irene, which rampaged up the East Coast a week ago.

Tropical Storm Lee spawns tornadoes on Gulf Coast
By Kelli Dugan MOBILE, Ala | Sun Sep 4, 2011 1:47pm EDT

(Reuters) - Tropical Storm Lee spawned tornado sightings and alerts from the Louisiana Gulf Coast to the Florida panhandle on Sunday, and at least one death was reported from a traffic accident related to the storm.More than a dozen tornado sightings were reported, and tornado warnings were in effect Sunday afternoon for portions of Baldwin and Mobile counties in southwest Alabama and Greene, Jasper, Perry and Wayne counties in southern Mississippi, according to the National Weather Service.Weather officials had not confirmed any tornadoes touching down in the area on Sunday afternoon, but were tracking at least three twisters and funnel clouds near Mobile, Alabama, and central Mississippi near Hattiesburg.Tornado watches stretched from southeast Mississippi, through a dozen counties in southwest Alabama and several more in the Florida Panhandle. Tornado watches also reached into southwest Georgia on Sunday afternoon, set to expire late in the evening, as rain from Lee edged eastward.Wet conditions associated with Tropical Storm Lee's landfall appeared to be a factor in an early-morning car wreck in Mobile, Alabama, that killed one man and left several others injured, authorities said. The single-vehicle crash around 4 a.m. local time Sunday killed Dataurius Nurell Parker of Lucedale, Mississippi, and injured four passengers.Mobile police investigators said none were wearing seat belts and believed wet conditions contributed to Parker losing control of the car and striking a utility pole. The death in Alabama was the second of the weekend that authorities linked to the storm. A Texas man drowned on Saturday when he lost his boogie board in the choppy water off a Galveston beach. His body was recovered about 150 yards from the beach a few hours later.

Weather officials were assessing the damage reported from a tornado that touched down in the Gulfport, Mississippi area just after midnight on Sunday. Several people were sent to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. Officials described the damage to homes as minor. We don't have a total number of homes damaged yet, but a (national) weather service assessment team is coming to check it out, said Rupert Lacy, emergency management director at the Harrison County Emergency Operations Center.Emergency management officials in Mobile County, Alabama, also confirmed a tornado touched down in the southern part of that county early on Sunday morning, downing power lines and trees. No injuries have been reported. In Mobile on Sunday, sunny skies and brisk winds gave the appearance of calm as the heaviest rains remained to the west.Severe storm warnings in southeast Mississippi were set to expire late Sunday morning, but officials were watching for more activity. A tornado watch is in effect for all of coastal Mississippi and Alabama and extends to Destin, Fla. until the afternoon.Response crews are especially attuned to the threat of tornadoes after devastating twisters ravaged northern Alabama on April 27, killing more than 230 people and leveling portions of Tuscaloosa, Concord and Pleasant Grove.

We know the heavy-duty rain is a little to the west of us, so we're going to see showers and continued flooding in low-lying areas where the ground is already super saturated. But tomorrow there's going to be a shift in the winds that should give us a little relief, and we're really looking forward to it,Lacy said.Emergency management officials in Hancock County, Mississippi, also reported a mobile home flipped just before midnight, but no injuries were reported. In Pascagoula, Mississippi, where residents were evacuated from two low-lying areas late Saturday night, officials said they were standing ready for flood issues as heavy rain was expected to move through the area Sunday afternoon. We've been fortunate enough to remain outside the major rain bands the last 18 to 20 hours, and that's given us an opportunity for our flooded areas to recede a little since yesterday, Terry Jackson, deputy director of the Jackson County Emergency Management Agency, said Sunday. Some 40 people had been evacuated Saturday night from the Moss Point community and another 14 were evacuated from the Briarwood subdivision as floodwaters rose. The main brunt of the storm's torrential rain was falling further west in Louisiana, particularly in coastal areas and the New Orleans metropolitan area, although there were no signs of major flooding like the devastating 2005 Hurricane Katrina.(Edited by Karen Brooks and Greg McCune)

New Orleans holding up under Tropical Storm Lee
By Kathy Finn NEW ORLEANS | Sun Sep 4, 2011 6:44pm EDT

(Reuters) - Tropical Storm Lee moved slowly across southern Louisiana on Sunday as New Orleans' flood defenses appeared to pass one of their biggest tests since Hurricane Katrina devastated the city in 2005.The National Hurricane Center said Lee's center was about 110 miles west-northwest of New Orleans, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph at around 5 p.m. EDT, and tropical storm-force winds extending 275 miles. The storm was moving at 5 mph.Winds were expected to weaken gradually in the next couple of days and up to 20 inches of rain was expected to fall on southeast Louisiana, the Miami-based center said. The storm has temporarily shut over 60 percent of offshore oil production. In New Orleans, the storm recalled Hurricane Katrina, which flooded 80 percent of the city, killed 1,500 people and caused more than $80 billion in damage to the tourist destination. Lee has dropped up to 13 inches of rain on New Orleans since it developed late last week.Half the city lies below sea level and is protected by a system of levees and flood gates.

Some street flooding was reported, but the city's massive pumping system kept ahead of the volume and diverted the waters into Lake Pontchartrain.Low-lying parishes around New Orleans did not fare as well, as Lee's winds drove a tidal surge over levees and onto roads. For a while we got some false hope that we might be out of the woods, but we realized overnight we would get more rain,Lafourche Parish spokesman Brennan Matherne said. We're getting call after call about street flooding.New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu warned residents to stay alert for flash floods and high winds expected before Lee moves to the northeast on Monday.Let's not be lulled to sleep by the breaks that we've had,Landrieu said.New Orleans' levees saw less stress because Lee's winds were too weak to drive a massive storm surge into the city, as was the case during Katrina. The levees at this point are really not being tested because the surge is not coming into the system, said Colonel Edward Fleming of the Army Corps of Engineers. This is mainly a wind and a rain event.New Orleans' festive spirit endured despite the rain. A parade for the Southern Decadence festival, a gay and lesbian event expected to draw 100,000 people, was to continue as planned, city police said. There were isolated reports of flooding in roads and homes. No injuries or deaths were reported in Louisiana.Wet conditions associated with the storm appeared to be a factor in an early morning car wreck in Mobile, Alabama, that killed one man and left several injured.

TIDAL SURGE

Lee's tidal surge could spur more coastal flooding in Louisiana, as well as in Mississippi and Alabama, before drenching a large swath of the Southeast and Appalachian regions in the coming days.Storm winds have already been pushing Gulf waters inland, slamming barriers in low-lying areas such as Lafourche Parish and prompting mandatory evacuations in the coastal communities of Lafitte, Crown Point and Barataria. In Mississippi, local governments were taking precautions as forecasters predicted tides could be 2 feet to 4 feet above normal.Less than 1,000 houses were without electrical power due to the storm late on Saturday, down from about 38,000 earlier, according to utility Entergy Corp .More than 60 percent of U.S. offshore oil production, all based in the Gulf of Mexico, and over 44 percent of offshore gas production were shut as of Saturday, according to the U.S. government. Most of that output should quickly return once the storm passes.Major offshore producers like Royal Dutch Shell, Exxon Mobil Corp and BP Plc shut down platforms and evacuated staff late last week.Shell, Exxon and Anadarko Petroleum Corp have started to return workers to offshore platforms.Low-lying refineries in Louisiana that collectively account for 12 percent of U.S. refining capacity were watching the storm closely, but reported no disruptions. In the open Atlantic on Sunday, Hurricane Katia strengthened rapidly to a Category 2 storm.

Drought intensifies in the South, no end in sight
By Carey Gillam KANSAS CITY, Missouri | Thu Sep 1, 2011 3:32pm EDT

(Reuters) - Record-breaking triple-digit temperatures were prolonging a devastating drought that has been baking the South and the dry spell could extend into next year and beyond, climate experts said on Thursday.Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse... we are seeing expansion of this drought. This drought will continue to persist and likely intensify, said climatologist Mark Svoboda, with the University of Nebraska's National Drought Mitigation Center. The drought is edging its way to the east even as it intensifies in the southern states, according to a weekly report released Thursday by a consortium of state and federal climatologists dubbed the U.S. Drought Monitor. We are seeing intensification in the southeast, in particular Georgia, eastern Alabama, said Svoboda. The drought increasingly looks likely to extend into next year, he said.Hurricane Irene offered only a little respite for some areas to the east, he said. But the rest of the nation was contending with mostly dry, warmer-than-normal weather.A strong tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico was needed to provide enough precipitation to relieve the parched soils in the southern Plains, according to Svoboda.Texas has been the hardest hit, and 2011 was expected to be the driest calendar year since records were first kept in the late 19th century. In that key agricultural state, levels of extreme and exceptional drought totaled 95.04 percent of area this week, up from 94.42 percent a week ago, the Drought Monitor reported. The parched soils and rangeland and lack of rainfall have decimated crops, left livestock with little to eat or drink and sparked wildfires across thousands of acres. Texas officials peg damages at more than $5 billion.

Oklahoma was also suffering, with extreme an exceptional levels of drought now across 85.37 percent of the state. And nearly a third of Kansas is in extreme or exceptional drought, according to the Drought Monitor.Wheat farmers are questioning whether or not to even try to plant their new crop this autumn with soils lacking moisture the plants need to grow. The drought was starting to engulf Louisiana, where extreme and exceptional drought grew to 59.50 percent of the state, up from 55.97 percent a week earlier. The drought grows worse with each 100 degree Fahrenheit-plus (40 degree Celsius-plus) day, breaking records and bringing more misery. Wichita, Kansas, has recorded 50 such days this year and areas in Texas have recorded more than 80.Temperatures Thursday were again surpassing 100 degrees in many parts of the Plains.(Reporting by Carey Gillam; Editing by Marguerita Choy)

Komemiyut to Hold 5th Annual Event Marking Expulsion-Komemiyut will be holding on Wednesday its 5th annual event marking the destruction of Gush Katif.By Elad Benari First Publish: 9/5/2011, 5:43 AM
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/147347#.TmRI8Wrtg44

The Komemiyut movement will be holding on Wednesday its annual event marking the destruction of Gush Katif, the expulsion of its 8000 Jewish residents and the burning of the synagogues there, in what was euphemistically called the disengagement from Gaza by Prime MInister Ariel Sharon's government. The event, which will be held in the Hurva Synagogue in Jerusalem’s Old City, will be attended by leading rabbis and public figures and a large crowd from among the general public is expected to be present as well. This is the fifth year in a row that the event will be held, and the second time it will be held in the Hurva Synagogue, a fact which Komemiyut chairman Rabbi Musa Cohen told Arutz Sheva on Sunday is symbolic of the desire and longing to return to the uprooted Gush Katif, just as the Hurva was rebuilt after destruction by a Jordanian shell. The event will begin at 3:30 p.m. (Israel time) and will begin with a seminar led by rabbis, followed by a mincha (afternoon) service which will also be attended by those in the crowd who mark the day of Gush Katif’s destruction by fasting. Following the prayer service participants will hold a rally at the Western Wall.During the seminar the speakers will discuss the issue of the expulsion from Gush Katif and the lessons to be learned for the future, including how to deal with those who even today call for the uprooting of Jews from their homes in Judea and Samaria.

We failed in our mission, Rabbi Cohen told Arutz Sheva. There was a terrible desecration of G-d's Name during the expulsion. There was destruction of communities and burning of synagogues. The Gazan Arabs who entered the area right after the Jews were expelled burned the beautiful synagogues there with shouts of joy, while Israelis watched the live films in horror.Rabbi Cohen said that a day of study and prayer is important, not only because of the power of prayer, but also to the cognitition of each participant so that they can understand their duty to act to prevent the recurrence of such acts in the future. He said that although a single event will not have great influence, holding a series of similar events will have a long-term impact.Rabbi Cohen referred to the issue of differences between leaders in religious Zionism about how to act to prevent another disengagement plan. He noted that while different rabbis may have different opinions as to what courses of action should be taken, there is a consensus among rabbis that Jews should resist any future expulsion from their homes. He noted that despite the differences in opinions on other issues, Knesset members from the National Union, the Jewish Home and Shas are all expected to attend Wednesday’s event.

16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.
19 From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.

Hershkowitz on PA 'State': No Need to Panic-PA's threat to get UN approval for unilateral declaration of statehood should not cause distress in Israel, Minister Hershkowitz says.By Maayana Miskin First Publish: 9/4/2011, 5:39 PM

Israel does not need to be overly concerned about the Palestinian Authority's plan to unilaterally declare statehood, Minister of Science Daniel Hershkowitz said Sunday, speaking to Arutz Sheva. The government is preparing to deal with a variety of scenarios, he said. The public should rest assured that the visible diplomatic efforts being made in the matter are not Israel's only response, he added.Much of the government's response is being formulated behind closed doors, among top security and diplomatic personnel, he explained. As for concerns that the PA is planning an uprising and aims to target Israelis in Judea and Samaria, he said,The towns in Judea and Samaria are not in danger. Even if there will be marches, we will deal with it. There are various options... We should not frighten ourselves.
Regarding those in government who have suggested that the UN vote could be a disaster for Israel, Hershkowitz recommended looking at their own political leanings. Those like former ambassador to the UN Gabriela Shalev and Defense Minister Ehud Barak who issue dire predictions are expressing their political views rather than giving an expert opinion, he stated.Hershkowitz also responded to calls for Israel to annex Jewish cities in Judea and Samaria unilaterally in response to the PA's unilateral land claims. Israel should annex its cities in the region, he agreed – but as a general strategy, and not in response to the PA's plans.

ISRAEL

Whose Promised Land? Psalm 78:54-55 (ISRAELS)
54 And He brought them to His holy border, This mountain which His right hand had acquired.
55 He also drove out the nations before them,Allotted them an inheritance by survey, And made the tribes of Israel dwell in their tents.

JERUSALEM DIVIDED

ZECHARIAH 12:1-5 King James Bible
1 The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.
2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.
3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
4 In that day, saith the LORD, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness.
5 And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the LORD of hosts their God.

JOEL 3:2
2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.

ZECHARIAH 14:1-9 King James Bible
1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. 5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.
6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
8 And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.

Israel's Netanyahu says won't apologize to Turkey
Reuters By Maayan Lubell | Reuters – SEPT 4,11

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday he would not apologize to Turkey over an Israeli raid that killed nine Turks on a ship bound for Gaza, reiterating his position after Ankara downgraded its relations with the Jewish state.Turkey on Friday froze all military pacts with Israel, expelled the Israeli ambassador and threatened legal sanctions after a U.N. report on the May 2010 raid failed to trigger an Israeli apology. The report said that Israel had used unreasonable force in the raid of the Turkish vessel Mavi Marmara, but added that pro-Palestinian activists onboard mounted organised and violent resistance.Turkey also wants an end to Israel's blockade of Gaza and compensation for the families of the those killed in the raid.We do not need to apologize that the naval commandos defended themselves against the violent activists,Netanyahu said at the weekly cabinet meeting, echoing a statement issued by his office on Friday.I hope a way can be found to overcome the dispute with Turkey. Israel never wanted its relations with Turkey to deteriorate and now too Israel is not interested in a deterioration in relations,he said. The U.N. report by a four-member panel said Israel's naval blockade of Gaza was a legitimate security measure to prevent weapons from reaching the enclave but the amount of force used by the Israeli commandos was excessive and unreasonable.

Publication of the so-called Palmer report was delayed repeatedly to allow for months of rapprochement talks between Israel and Turkey, once close strategic allies, at a time of wide upheaval in the Middle East.Turkey said it will now pursue criminal cases against Israeli officials responsible for the killings on board the Marmara, which the crew said was delivering aid to Gaza.Ankara also rejected the report's finding on the blockade and said on Saturday it would apply for an investigation by the International Court of Justice into its legality. To the naval commandos I want to say: In the same way that you and the rest of the IDF's (Israel Defense Force's) soldiers protect us, we will defend you in every place and at every forum,Netanyahu said at the cabinet meeting. But as well as this I repeat: The state of Israel expresses regret at the loss of life.Turkey's prime minister, Tayyip Erdogan, regarded as a hero in the Muslim world for championing the Palestinian cause, is expected to go to Egypt later this month.A security source in the Gaza Strip said Erdogan was planning to visit the territory, which shares a border with Egypt. There has been no official announcement of a Gaza visit. A visit by Erdogan to Gaza could deepen the rift with Israel.(Editing by Rosalind Russell)

Migron Evacuation Resumes After Prosecution Appeals Injunction-The evacuation of three homes in Migron resumes after the prosecution appeals a temporary injunction.By Elad Benari First Publish: 9/5/2011, 2:01 AM / Last Update: 9/5/2011, 4:55 AM

Security forces resumed early Monday morning the evacuation and demolition of three homes in the community of Migron in Binyamin, previously slated for demolition which had been stopped when the issue of the entire community came before the Supreme Court. The evacuation resumed after having been stopped earlier when Supreme Court Justice Neil Handel issued a temporary injunction prohibiting the demolition of the three homes. The petition was submitted by the Binyamin Residents Council and the Regavim movement. The injunction was presented to the IDF commander in the area, but a short time later the forces were instructed to go ahead with the demolition after the prosecution announced in an unprecedented move that it would petition the injunction.Rightist groups have reportedly called on the public to come to Migron and help stop the demolition.Yassam forces arrived already late Sunday night at Migron and began surrounding the three homes that had been slated for demolition.

Local residents told Arutz Sheva that police officers were violently distancing anyone who tried to come near the homes. The families living in the three homes were reportedly being forcefully removed from them. The Honenu legal aid association reported that at least seven people had been detained in clashes that broke out in the area during the attempted demolition. According to the report, the detainees include five teenage girls, a resident of Samaria, and a resident of the Binyamin region in his thirties. It was also reported that security forces were blocking Highway 60 between Jerusalem and the Tapuach junction. IDF and police also closed the road to the media, including an Arutz Sheva team that was making its way to the area.MK Dr. Michael Ben-Ari (National Union) blamed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for the Migron evacuation and said, It is fitting for Bibi to try and distract public opinion from the public protest against him by beating settlers. Netanyahu has too many advisors who tell him to use the strike the settlers and save yourself method just to avoid further criticism about the public protest against him.
Last month, the High Court told the government to destroy the community, home to 47 families, by next March.Migron has been a constant target for Peace Now, which has claimed that Jewish homes there are located on property belonging to PA Arabs.

Iranian Threats Prompt Turkey to Shelter under NATO Umbrella-The rivalry between Turkey and Iran over influence in the Middle East has prompted a Turkish decision to join NATO's missile shield.By Amiel Ungar First Publish: 9/4/2011, 7:42 PM

As Israel's relations with Turkey deteriorate, the United States is apparently getting ready to maintain two parallel systems of defense relations with Turkey and Israel instead of combining the two. This can be seen in the Turkish agreement to take part of the NATO anti-defense missile shield.Negotiations over Turkish participation have apparently moved ahead as a result of growing friction between Turkey and Iran. The specific cause of tension has been the disagreement over the Assad regime's brutal suppression of demonstrations in Syria. The general cause of tension has been the growing competition between Iran and Turkey over influence in the Middle East. While Iran has maintained relations with the Sunni Hamas and Al Qaeda, part of the Iranian ideology has been fueled by the hopes that Iran could now reverse Shiite Islam's subordinate position to Sunni Islam and the Muslim world.

Iran's support for Assad is in part repayment for the fact that Hafiz Assad was the only major Arab leader who supported Iran during the Iran-Iraq war during the 1980s. There is also the religious element in that the Alawites of Syria are considered heretics by the majority Sunnis just as the Shiites are considered heretics by the Sunnis. While there have been some reservations expressed in Iran over the wisdom of total backing for Assad, a decision has been made as the daily Kayhan, the mouthpiece for Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s, editorialized: Those targeting Syria are, in fact, targeting the Islamic Revolution in Iran. The paper also warned specifically: Turkey must know that the Islamic Republic will use all means at its disposal to ensure the failure of plots against Syria.Hence Turkey, hitherto reluctant to support sanctions against Iran over the nuclear program, has become alarmed and is seeking NATO protection. The main sticking point was whether information would be shared with Israel. The Turkish government objected to any such sharing. Both Iran and Turkey have used anti-Israel policies and rhetoric to promote their penetration of the Middle East. Turkey could not allow Iran to contend that Turkey and Israel were engaged in military collaboration. The US according to the Wall Street Journal, apparently provided the assurance as U.S. officials told Turkish counterparts that the U.S. has a separate and robust missile defense relationship with Israel, where the U.S. based its high-powered X-Band radar in 2008 to bolster Israel’s missile defenses|.

Russia officially does not object to Turkish participation. Turkey, as opposed to Poland and the Czech Republic, is geographically distant from Russia's European heartland.Russia, however, is opposed to an anti-missile system if it will not be a joint NATO-Russian system and the Turkish system means that the missile shield has gained further traction. This has prompted Russia's ambassador to NATO, Dimitry Rogozin, to announce on Friday plans to travel to Iran later this month to discuss its ballistic missile program and the U.S.-led missile shield in Europe. We, in turn, are interested in getting clarification from the Iranian side over its plans to develop missiles which are often referred to with alarm by our U.S. and European partners,Rogozin said.Russia is belatedly realizing that the missile shield will go ahead irrespective of her objections unless the Iranian missile threat is neutralized.

NIF Officer: Demise of Jewish State No Tragedy – Wikileaks-In US cable from 2010, then-senior NIF officer is quoted as saying Israel will be majority Arab in 100 years but this is not a tragedy.By Gil Ronen First Publish: 9/4/2011, 11:11 PM

A senior New Israel Fund officer told a U.S. official in 2010 that the disappearance of the Jewish state would not be a tragedy, according to a document that was leaked by Wikileaks. The officer is Hedva Radovanitz, who was at the time (February 2010) NIF Associate Director in Israel, according to the document. The document relates to the attempts to pass a law that would demand transparency of political NGOs operating in Israel that are funded by foreign countries. An American diplomatic officer interviewed Radovanitz and heard her bemoaning the state of Israel's Left:

New Israel Fund (NIF) Associate Director in Israel Hedva Radovanitz, who manages grants to 350 NGOs totaling about 18 million dollars per year, told PolOff [presumably an abbreviation for political office or political officer – Ed.] on February 23 that the campaign against the NGOs was due to the disappearance of the political left wing in Israel and the lack of domestic constituency for the NGOs. She noted that when she headed ACRI's Tel Aviv office, ACRI had 5,000 members, while today it has less than 800, and it was only able to muster about 5,000 people to its December human rights march by relying on the active staff of the 120 NGOs that participated. Radovanitz commented that the NIF was working behind the scenes through many NGOs to prevent the NGO legislation from passing in its current form.
The cable then quotes Radovanitz's prediction for Israel's future thus:She commented that she believed that in 100 years Israel would be majority Arab and that the disappearance of a Jewish state would not be the tragedy that Israelis fear since it would become more democratic. Radovanitz also outlines the future plans of the NIF:

She also said the NIF was currently re-evaluating its strategy and was hoping to create a movement rather than just a lot of NGOs. She said the NIF had no plans to build a human rights constituency within the right wing of Israeli society, though she believed politics had shifted to the right for the foreseeable future.
The NIF has been operating since the 1980s and has been at the focus of extreme controversy in the last three years. It was accused of manufacturing unfounded and damning anti-IDF quotes that were used extensively by the UN's Goldstone Commission to blame Israel for the Gaza counter-terror campaign that began in late 2008. Israel's leading pro-Arab NGOs are funded by the NIF.

Ashkelon Man Becomes 3rd Rocket Victim-79-year-old Eliyahu Naim of Ashkelon has become the third person to die due to Gaza terrorists' rocket barrage two weeks ago.By Maayana Miskin First Publish: 9/5/2011, 1:12 AM

The death toll for Gaza terrorists' massive rocket barrage on southern Israel two weeks ago has risen to three. Eliyahu Naim, 79, died Sunday in a Jerusalem hospital, two weeks after hitting his head while running for shelter in Ashkelon.Naim lost consciousness immediately after the accident, and did not wake up.A second victim of the attacks, 62-year-old Varda Nachmias, suffered a similar fate. Nachmias fell while running for shelter during a rocket attack and injured her neck. She passed away two days later. The first victim of the attacks was 38-year-old Yossi Shushan, who was killed by a missile strike in Be'er Sheva. Shushan was survived by two young daughters and by his wife Lilach, who is in her ninth month of pregnancy.

Israeli army, settlers brace for West Bank unrest
AP By DANIELLA CHESLOW - Associated Press | AP – SEPT 4,11

ELAZAR, West Bank (AP) — Israeli forces are seeking to prevent bloodshed when Palestinians march in support of a statehood drive this month, but they are preparing for worst-case scenarios, even authorizing West Bank settlers to shoot at Palestinians who approach their communities.Palestinians say the rallies will be peaceful — a view shared by Israel's own security assessments — and will steer clear of any settlements. Yet, the combustible atmosphere and the long and deadly history of Israeli-Palestinian violence are raising the specter that events might spin out of control. For the Palestinians, the mass marches are intended to boost their campaign to get the U.N. to recognize an independent state, a strategy they are trying because negotiations aimed at bringing about a state through a peace deal with Israel have been stalled for two years.Settlers living on land the Palestinians want for their future state have long been targets for militant attacks; likewise, some settlers have attacked Palestinian civilians. The fear among settlers now is that even unarmed crowds — if large enough — could overrun their communities.Ilan Paz, a retired Israeli general who served in the West Bank for a decade, said a scenario with hundreds of casualties was not unthinkable. You can't know how this sort of protest will end, Paz said. All sorts of local incidents can lead to injuries, and this can cause a deterioration in the situation.Israel's army is training soldiers used to battling gunmen in non-lethal riot control tactics and inviting settlers to watch the drills at a military camp in a rural part of central Israel. The mass demonstrations are set for around the time of the Sept. 13-22 United Nations General Assembly session, where the Palestinians hope to be granted official endorsement as a state. Some doubt the rallies will take place at all, however, and several Palestinian activist groups say they will not take part, believing the effort would achieve little.

Preparations undertaken by police are expected to cost Israel about $20 million, according to a senior police officer. Purchases include 16 long-range tear gas launchers, 15 trained Belgian horses to bolster the police's mounted forces, and a weeklong riot training course for a quarter of the nation's 28,000 police officers, he said.Police expect Israeli-controlled east Jerusalem, home to 250,000 Palestinians, to be a flash point, he added. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the precautions.Security forces are stockpiling tear gas, stun grenades, water cannons and other non-lethal weapons. At a military camp about an hour's drive from Israel's metropolitan center in Tel Aviv, troops are practicing civilian crowd control. But in the West Bank, some settlers say they do not fully trust the army to handle any unrest. The army doesn't always know how to deal with this sort of event, said Avraham Binyamin, a spokesman for Yitzhar, a settlement considered extreme even by many settlers.Palestinians marching toward settlements are a threat even if they are not carrying firearms, he said:You can kill with a rock or a knife, and you can burn with a match. There are 300,000 Israeli settlers in the West Bank, living among around 2.5 million Palestinians. Settlements are typically guarded by soldiers and by teams of local residents armed by the military. In addition, many settlers carry private firearms, and clashes between settlers and Palestinians are common. The Palestinian Authority, the Western-backed government that has partial authority in the West Bank, has released a schedule of planned September protests slated to be held in city centers and villages. The list includes no planned marches toward settlements.Saeb Erekat, the chief Palestinian negotiator, said fears of Palestinian violence were absolutely unfounded. The real fear of the settlers and (Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu is that they know that once Palestine is admitted as a member of the U.N., their days of occupation and settlements are numbered,he said.In coordination with the military, each Israeli settlement has identified a response line around its perimeter, said Shlomo Vaknin, security officer for a settler umbrella group known as the Yesha Council. Should Palestinians cross that line, the military will shoot at marchers' feet or in the air. If soldiers are not on hand, responsibility to react will fall on the settlements' civilian guards, Vaknin said.

In response, the Association for Civil Rights in Israel sent a complaint last week to the military's advocate general claiming the settler training amounts to inciting vigilante violence against unarmed civilians exercising their right to protest. The army did not immediately comment on the complaint.Mike Guzafsky, 47, a settler who trains guard and attack dogs for settlements, noted that the army appeared to have been caught by surprise last month when militants crossed the Egypt-Israel border and ambushed vehicles in southern Israel, killing eight people. He said he got 100 requests for dogs ahead of September, far above the usual. What happens,he said, speaking at the West Bank settlement of Elazar, if the army is once again caught off guard when 500 hostile Arabs are trying to penetrate a settlement with knives and guns? Michael Ben-Ari, an Israeli lawmaker associated with the extremist fringe of the settlement movement, issued a pamphlet to settler leaders encouraging settlers to match every unarmed Palestinian march with an Israeli one.No more soldiers and border police against groups of Arab children and women. Instead, children versus children, youth versus youth, and women versus women — this is how we will destroy the September effect,he wrote.Other settlers denied they were readying for a fight.
The atmosphere is business as usual, said Danny Dayan, chairman of the Yesha Council. We believe the army and police will take the necessary measures.

Iran plugs first nuclear power plant into grid
Reuters By Mitra Amiri – Sun Sep 4, 8:54 am ET

TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran's first nuclear power plant has finally begun to provide electricity to the national grid, official media reported on Sunday, a long-delayed milestone in the nuclear ambitions of a country the West fears is covertly try to develop atomic bombs. The Atomic Energy Agency announced that atomic electricity from Bushehr power plant joined the national grid with a power of around 60 megawatts on Saturday at 2329 (1859 GMT), the official news agency IRNA reported. The start-up will come as a relief to Tehran after many years of delays and false starts at the plant it hopes will show the world it has joined the nuclear club despite sanctions imposed in an attempt to curb its disputed nuclear progress. The $1-billion, 1,000-megawatt Bushehr plant will be formally inaugurated on September 12, by which time it will be operating at 40 percent capacity, Hamid-Khadem Qaemi, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), told the state-controlled Arabic language TV station al-Alam.The AEOI was not immediately available to comment. The plant on the Gulf coast is the first of what Iran says will become a network of nuclear facilities that will reduce its reliance on its abundant fossil fuels and is a showpiece of what it says is a purely peaceful atomic programme.Bushehr's start-up comes with Russia pushing to revive talks between global powers and Iran about its separate uranium enrichment work, seen abroad as a potential proliferation threat since highly refined uranium fuels atomic bombs.Iran says it is enriching uranium only to lower levels suitable for power plant fuel or medical and agricultural uses.
But it has also started shifting its most sensitive enrichment operations to a mountain bunker that would be better protected against a possible pre-emptive U.S. or Israeli military strike.

Started by Germany's Siemens in the 1970s before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the Bushehr project was taken over by Russian engineers in the 1990s. Delays fueled speculation Moscow was using the project as a diplomatic lever over Iran.Nuclear fuel rods were transported into the reactor building amid great media fanfare more than a year ago, but were not loaded into the reactor until later in 2010 and even then had to be removed due to technical problems. As recently as last month Iran told U.N. inspectors it had temporarily shut down the Bushehr reactor for technical reasons and, separately, a special said the plant was still a long way from joining the grid. But analysts were not entirely surprised by Sunday's news. They have been doing the tests on it for some time. It is certainly no surprise that they are doing it around now, said Malcolm Grimston, a nuclear expert at London's Chatham House. It is a milestone in the sense that it is their first full scale power reactor but it doesn't change any of the major arguments (about Iran's wider nuclear programme), he said.London-based nuclear proliferation expert Mark Fitzpatrick said: So many announcements have been made about imminent plans to connect Bushehr to the grid that it's hardly newsworthy now that it has actually happened. On the fact that Bushehr was only running at 6 percent capacity, he said: They are wise, of course, to take it slow. Bushehr has had too many problems for the operators to risk nuclear safety by trying to meet artificial political deadlines.Experts say firing up the Bushehr plant will not bring Iran any closer to building a nuclear bomb because Russia will supply the enriched uranium for the reactor and repatriate spent fuel that could be reprocessed into weapons-grade plutonium.Fears have been voiced over potential safety problems for Bushehr which, like Fukushima, the site of Japan's devastating nuclear melt-down, is in a major earthquake zone, albeit not one at risk of a tsunami. The U.N. nuclear watchdog (IAEA) has urged Iran to join the 1996 Convention on Nuclear Safety, a treaty designed to improve safeguards after the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. An IAEA official said Iran would be the only country operating a nuclear power plant not to belong to the convention.(Additional reporting Parisa Hafezi and by Fredrik Dahl in Vienna; Writing by Robin Pomeroy; Editing by Mark Heinrich)

Iceland says it was bullied over bank debt
Reuters – Sun Sep 4, 3:46 pm ET

REYKJAVIK (Reuters) – Iceland's president accused European countries on Sunday of having bullied it into agreeing to guarantee repayment of the debts of a failed bank, reviving a dispute with Britain and the Netherlands whose citizens are owed billions. When Iceland's banking sector collapsed in the 2008 global financial crisis, accounts were frozen at the bank Landsbanki, which had accepted deposits from British and Dutch savers through online funds called Icesave.Iceland says the estate of the failed bank will be enough to repay about $5 billion of debt to the British and the Dutch. The two countries had wanted the government in Reykjavik to give a state guarantee to the repayment. In a referendum earlier this year, Icelanders rejected for a second time giving a guarantee.People (in the government) bowed to the bullying of the Europeans ..., President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson told RUV public radio. He said the British and Dutch demand that the government guarantee the debt had been absurd. So, what is happening now is proving that if the issue had been handled sensibly here from the beginning, it would have been totally unnecessary to put the people of Iceland and our cooperation with Europe into this straightjacket,he said. The EU should investigate and face up to how in the world it was possible that EU member states agreed to support this absurd claim against Iceland,he said. The British and Dutch, with the support of other EU nations, had also persuaded the International Monetary Fund to pressure Iceland, Grimsson said, adding that former IMF managing director Dominique Strauss-Kahn told him in January 2010 he was unhappy that the Fund was being used as a fist against Iceland.Since the 2008 global financial crisis, Iceland had to accept a bailout led by the IMF, accompanied by a programme of economic reforms which have just been completed. The administrators of Landsbanki have said the estate of the bank can more than repay the British and Dutch. They have said the payments can begin later this year after final domestic legal action is out of the way.(Reporting by Omar Valdimarsson; Editing by Patrick Lannin and Peter Graff)

Wikileaks Discloses The Reason(s) Behind China’s Shadow Gold Buying Spree Zero Hedge Sunday, September 4, 2011
http://www.infowars.com/wikileaks-discloses-the-reasons-behind-china%E2%80%99s-shadow-gold-buying-spree/

Wondering why gold at $1850 is cheap, or why gold at double that price will also be cheap, or frankly at any price? Because, as the following leaked cable explains, gold is, to China at least, nothing but the opportunity cost of destroying the dollar’s reserve status. Putting that into dollar terms is, therefore, impractical at best, and illogical at worst. We have a suspicion that the following cable from the US embassy in China is about to go not viral but very much global, and prompt all those mutual fund managers who are on the golden sidelines to dip a toe in the 24 karat pool. The only thing that matters from China’s perspective is that “suppressing the price of gold is very beneficial for the U.S. in maintaining the U.S. dollar’s role as the international reserve currency. China’s increased gold reserves will thus act as a model and lead other countries towards reserving more gold. Large gold reserves are also beneficial in promoting the internationalization of the RMB.” Now, what would happen if mutual and pension funds finally comprehend they are massively underinvested in the one asset which China is without a trace of doubt massively accumulating behind the scenes is nothing short of a worldwide scramble, not so much for paper, but every last ounce of physical gold…

From Wikileaks:3. CHINA’S GOLD RESERVES-China increases its gold reserves in order to kill two birds with one stone-The China Radio International sponsored newspaper World News Journal (Shijie Xinwenbao)(04/28):According to China’s National Foreign Exchanges Administration China ‘s gold reserves have recently increased. Currently, the majority of its gold reserves have been located in the U.S. and European countries. The U.S. and Europe have always suppressed the rising price of gold. They intend to weaken gold’s function as an international reserve currency. They don’t want to see other countries turning to gold reserves instead of the U.S. dollar or Euro. Therefore, suppressing the price of gold is very beneficial for the U.S. in maintaining the U.S. dollar’s role as the international reserve currency. China’s increased gold reserves will thus act as a model and lead other countries towards reserving more gold. Large gold reserves are also beneficial in promoting the internationalization of the RMB.Perhaps now is a good time to remind readers what will happen if and when America’s always behind the curve mutual and pension fund managers finally comprehend that they are massively underinvested in the one best performing asset class. From The Driver for Gold You’re Not Watching (via Casey Research)

You already know the basic reasons for owning gold – currency protection, inflation hedge, store of value, calamity insurance – many of which are becoming cliches even in mainstream articles. Throw in the supply and demand imbalance, and you’ve got the basic arguments for why one should hold gold for the foreseeable future. All of these factors remain very bullish, in spite of gold’s 450% rise over the past 10 years. No, it’s not too late to buy, especially if you don’t own a meaningful amount; and yes, I’m convinced the price is headed much higher, regardless of the corrections we’ll inevitably see. Each of the aforementioned catalysts will force gold’s price higher and higher in the years ahead, especially the currency issues. But there’s another driver of the price that escapes many gold watchers and certainly the mainstream media. And I’m convinced that once this sleeping giant wakes, it could ignite the gold market like nothing we’ve ever seen. The fund management industry handles the bulk of the world’s wealth. These institutions include insurance companies, hedge funds, mutual funds, sovereign wealth funds, etc. But the elephant in the room is pension funds. These are institutions that provide retirement income, both public and private.Global pension assets are estimated to be – drum roll, please – $31.1 trillion. No, that is not a misprint. It is more than twice the size of last year’s GDP in the U.S. ($14.7 trillion). We know a few hedge fund managers have invested in gold, like John Paulson, David Einhorn, Jean-Marie Eveillard. There are close to twenty mutual funds devoted to gold and precious metals. Lots of gold and silver bugs have been buying. So, what about pension funds? According to estimates by Shayne McGuire in his new book, Hard Money; Taking Gold to a Higher Investment Level, the typical pension fund holds about 0.15% of its assets in gold. He estimates another 0.15% is devoted to gold mining stocks, giving us a total of 0.30% – that is, less than one third of one percent of assets committed to the gold sector.Shayne is head of global research at the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. He bases his estimate on the fact that commodities represent about 3% of the total assets in the average pension fund. And of that 3%, about 5% is devoted to gold. It is, by any account, a negligible portion of a fund’s asset allocation. Now here’s the fun part. Let’s say fund managers as a group realize that bonds, equities, and real estate have become poor or risky investments and so decide to increase their allocation to the gold market. If they doubled their exposure to gold and gold stocks – which would still represent only 0.6% of their total assets – it would amount to $93.3 billion in new purchases.

How much is that? The assets of GLD total $55.2 billion, so this amount of money is 1.7 times bigger than the largest gold ETF. SLV, the largest silver ETF, has net assets of $9.3 billion, a mere one-tenth of that extra allocation. The market cap of the entire sector of gold stocks (producers only) is about $234 billion. The gold industry would see a 40% increase in new money to the sector. Its market cap would double if pension institutions allocated just 1.2% of their assets to it.But what if currency issues spiral out of control? What if bonds wither and die? What if real estate takes ten years to recover? What if inflation becomes a rabid dog like it has every other time in history when governments have diluted their currency to this degree? If these funds allocate just 5% of their assets to gold – which would amount to $1.5 trillion – it would overwhelm the system and rocket prices skyward. And let’s not forget that this is only one class of institution. Insurance companies have about $18.7 trillion in assets. Hedge funds manage approximately $1.7 trillion. Sovereign wealth funds control $3.8 trillion. Then there are mutual funds, ETFs, private equity funds, and private wealth funds. Throw in millions of retail investors like you and me and Joe Sixpack and Jiao Sixpack, and we’re looking in the rear view mirror at $100 trillion.I don’t know if pension funds will devote that much money to this sector or not. What I do know is that sovereign debt risks are far from over, the U.S. dollar and other currencies will lose considerably more value against gold, interest rates will most certainly rise in the years ahead, and inflation is just getting started. These forces are in place and building, and if there’s a paradigm shift in how these managers view gold, look out! I thought of titling this piece, Why $5,000 Gold May Be Too Low. Because once fund managers enter the gold market in mass, this tiny sector will light on fire with blazing speed.

Feds warn of small airplane terror threats
AP By EILEEN SULLIVAN - Associated Press | AP – SEPT 4,11

WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI and Homeland Security have issued a nationwide warning about al-Qaida threats to small airplanes, just days before the anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.Authorities say there is no specific or credible terrorist threat for the 10-year anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. But they have stepped up security nationwide as a precaution.According to a five-page law enforcement bulletin issued Friday, as recently as early this year, al-Qaida was considering ways to attack airplanes. The alert, issued ahead of the summer's last busy travel weekend, said terrorists have considered renting private planes and loading them with explosives.Al-Qaida and its affiliates have maintained an interest in obtaining aviation training, particularly on small aircraft, and in recruiting Western individuals for training in Europe or the United States, although we do not have current, credible information or intelligence of an imminent attack being planned, according to the bulletin obtained by The Associated Press. The bulletin also says al-Qaida would like to use sympathetic Westerners to get flight training, then get them to become flight instructors.

Matthew Chandler, a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security, described the bulletin as routine. We shared this information with our partners to highlight the need for continued awareness and vigilance, he said.Aviation security is much tighter than it was a decade ago, but al-Qaida remains keenly interested in launching attacks on airplanes, believing large attacks with high body counts are more likely to grab headlines.Threats to small airplanes are nothing new. After the 2001 attacks, the government grounded thousands of crop dusters amid fears the planes could be used in an attack. In 2002, U.S. officials said they uncovered an al-Qaida plot to fly a small plane into a U.S. warship in the Persian Gulf. And in 2003, U.S. officials uncovered an al-Qaida plot to crash an explosives-laden small aircraft into the American consulate in Karachi, Pakistan.Associated Press writer Matt Apuzzo contributed to this report.

Tropical Storm Lee lurches ashore in Louisiana
AP By MARY FOSTER, Associated Press – SEPT 4,11

JEAN LAFITTE, La. – The center of Tropical Storm Lee stretched across the central Gulf Coast early Sunday, dumping torrential rains that threatened flooding in low-lying communities in a foreshadowing of what cities further inland could face in coming days.Lee's center crawled ashore in Louisiana before dawn after the vast, soggy storm system spent hours during the weekend hovering in the northernmost Gulf of Mexico. The storm's slow crawl to the north gave more time for its drenching rain bands to pelt a wide swath of vulnerable coastline, raising the flood threat.By Sunday, at least 6 to 10 inches of rain had fallen in some spots along the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts, and the National Weather Service warned there was a threat of extensive flooding and flash floods because of the storm's slow, meandering jog inland. The drenching rain bands were expected to head northward into the Tennessee Valley later in the week as forecasters warned that 10 to 15 inches of rain were possible along the central Gulf Coast and up to 20 inches in isolated spots.National Hurricane Center specialist Robbie Berg said the flash flood threat could be more severe as the rains moves from the flatter Gulf region north into the rugged Appalachians.Closer to the Gulf, the water is just going to sit there a couple of days,he said. Up in the Appalachians you get more threat of flash floods — so that's very similar to some of the stuff we saw in Vermont.Vermont is still cleaning up and digging out dozens of communities that were damaged and isolated by heavy rain from Hurricane Irene last week that quickly overfilled mountain rivers. No injuries were reported so far from Lee. But even before Lee swept ashore, there were scattered instances of water entering low-lying homes and businesses in Louisiana's bayou country — a region of fast-eroding wetlands long vulnerable to hurricanes and tropical storms. The storm prompted evacuations in bayou towns such as Jean Lafitte. Thousands were without power.

Late Saturday, lifelong Jean Lafitte resident Brad Zinet was riding out the storm in his mobile home mounted on pilings. He was hoping it wouldn't take on water. We got nowhere to go. We're just getting everything put up out of the way and hope for the best, said the 31-year-old plumber. This is a way of life around here, he added. You just do the best you can and ride it out.A week after Hurricane Irene caused massive flooding and claimed at least 46 lives as it barreled up the East Coast, President Barack Obama was heading to northern New Jersey later Sunday for a first-hand look at the damage while keeping an eye on Lee.The president was to visit Paterson, N.J., where the Passaic River swept through the once-booming factory town of 150,000, flooded its downtown and forced hundreds to evacuate. At 8 a.m. EDT, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Lee's center had come ashore on the Louisiana coast about 50 miles (80 kilometers) west of Lafayette. Maximum sustained winds were 45 mph (75 kph) as the storm headed to the north at 3 mph (5 kph).Tropical storm warnings stretched from near the Louisiana-Texas state line to Destin, Fla.Although Lee's expected to weaken in coming days, the system was expected to unleash heavy rains over a wide area of the central Gulf Coast and then spread that precipitation into the Tennessee Valley, forecasters said.To the east, coastal businesses were suffering. Alabama beaches that would normally be packed for the Labor Day holiday were largely empty, and rough seas closed the Port of Mobile. Mississippi's coastal casinos, however, were open and reporting brisk business. In New Orleans, sporadic downpours caused some street flooding Saturday, but pumps were sucking up the water and sending it into Lake Pontchartrain. Officials said the levees were doing their job in the city that is still recovering from the deadly Hurricane Katrina a half decade ago.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu warned residents not to let their guard down, saying:We're not out of the woods. Don't go to sleep on this storm. To the east, coastal Mississippi officials were bracing for the storm to move further into the state. We've been getting some pretty good onshore rains, said Jackson County emergency director Donald Langham.Harrison County officials said travel on U.S. Highway 90 had become hazardous because winds from Lee have pushed sand from beach onto the eastbound lanes and the rain has created a situation where drivers cannot see the roadway. This layer of sand has gotten up on the highway and you can't determine if you're on the road, up on the median or the curb, said emergency director Rupert Lacy.Flooding in Hancock County left several roadways impassable, and the rain on parts of Interstate 10 at times has been so heavy that visibility was down to only a few feet.In Alabama, rough seas forced the closure of the Port of Mobile. Pockets of heavy rain pounded the beaches Saturday, and strong winds whipped up the surf and bowed palm trees. But just a couple miles inland, wind and rain dropped significantly.Wet and windy conditions hovered over Dauphin Island, a barrier island in the Gulf, but conditions weren't too threatening, Mayor Jeff Collier said. High surf caused some roads to flood, but all were still passable Saturday afternoon.Precautions were taken to secure anything that could be swept away by wind or waves, and Labor Day concerts and other festivities were canceled. Beaches that would normally be packed were nearly empty. The weekend is literally a wash,Collier said. It's really a shame that it happened on a holiday weekend.Elsewhere, the National Hurricane Center said Hurricane Katia was trekking across open ocean about 365 miles (587 kilometers) northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands. No coastal watches or warnings were in effect with the storm so far out to sea.The center said Katia had top sustained winds of 75 mph (121 kph) and was moving at 12 mph (19 kph) with little change in recent hours.Associated Press writers contributing to this report were Kevin McGill and Brian Schwaner in New Orleans; Jack Elliott Jr. in Jackson, Miss.; Jim Van Anglen in Gulf Shores, Ala.; and Kate Brumback in Atlanta.

Typhoon Talas kills at least 15 as it passes Japan
AP – 1 hr 19 mins ago SEPT 4,11

TOKYO – Heavy rains and mudslides from powerful Typhoon Talas killed at least 15 people in Japan as the storm moved northward Sunday past the country's western coast. At least 43 others are missing, local media said.Evacuation orders and advisories were issued to 460,000 people in western and central Japan, Kyodo News agency reported.NHK TV footage showed a bridge that had been swept away after intense rainfall caused a river to swell with brown torrents. People holding umbrellas waded through knee-deep water in city streets and residential areas. The center of the season's 12th typhoon was moving slowly north across the Sea of Japan off the country's west coast, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. It crossed the southern island of Shikoku and the central part of the main island of Honshu overnight Saturday. That area is hundreds of miles (kilometers) from Japan's tsunami-ravaged northeastern coast.Because of the storm's slow speed, the agency warned that heavy rains and strong winds are likely to continue and could lead to flooding and landslides.

Three homes were buried in a landslide in Wakayama prefecture. One woman who was rescued whose identity was still being confirmed later died, four remained missing and a 14-year old girl was saved from the debris, police said.Overall in the hard-hit prefecture, 10 people were dead and 32 people were missing, they said.
Seven people were reported missing in nearby Nara prefecture after homes were swept down a river, NHK said.Among the dead was a woman who appeared to be in her 30s whose body was found in a river in Ehime prefecture on Shikoku, police said.A 73-year-old man in Nara prefecture died after a landslide caused his house to collapse, police said.

Katia regains hurricane status far off in Atlantic
AP SEPT 4,11

MIAMI – The National Hurricane Center says Katia has regained hurricane status in the open Atlantic.Hurricane specialist Robbie Berg said Sunday that Katia has cycled on and off between tropical storm and hurricane status. He says the storm strengthened recently and now has maximum sustained winds of about 75 mph (121 kph), the lowest-level Category 1 storm. At 5 a.m. EDT Sunday, Katia's center was about 370 miles (600 km) northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands and it was moving 12 mph (19 kph) to the northwest.Berg says Katia poses no threat to land over the next 48 hours, but he urged those on the East Coast and in Bermuda to keep an eye on it.

NUCLEAR WEAPONS WILL BE USED.

PSALMS 97:3
3 A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.

REVELATION 14:18-20
18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.
19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.
20 And the winepress was trodden without the city,(JERUSALEM) and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.(200 MILES) (THE SIZE OF ISRAEL)

ISAIAH 66:15-18
15 For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.
16 For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many.
17 They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.
18 For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory.

ISAIAH 26:21
21 For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.(WW3,1/2 earths population die).

ISAIAH 13:6-13 KJV
6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt:(FROM FRIGHT)
8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

ISAIAH 24:17-23 KJV
17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.
22 And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

ZECHARIAH 14:12-13
12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.
13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.(1/2-3 BILLION DIE IN WW3)

EZEKIEL 20:47

1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

REVELATION 8:7
7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

REVELATION 9:18
18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.

HALF OF EARTHS POPULATION DIE DURING THE 7 YR TRIBULATION.(THESE VERSES ARE JUDGEMENT SCRIPTURES NOT RAPTURE SCRIPTURES)

LUKE 17:34-37
34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.(Christians have new bodies, this is the people against Jerusalem during the 7 yr treaty)(Christians bodies are not being eaten by the birds).

MATTHEW 24:37-51
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Iran plugs first nuclear power plant into grid
Reuters By Mitra Amiri – SEPT 4,11

TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran's first nuclear power plant has finally begun to provide electricity to the national grid, official media reported on Sunday, a long-delayed milestone in the nuclear ambitions of a country the West fears is covertly try to develop atomic bombs. The Atomic Energy Agency announced that atomic electricity from Bushehr power plant joined the national grid with a power of around 60 megawatts on Saturday at 2329 (1859 GMT),the official news agency IRNA reported.

FANFARE

Israeli rabbi pairs gays to lesbians
AP By TIA GOLDENBERG - Associated Press | AP – Sat, Sep 3, 2011

SHILO, West Bank (AP) — Rabbi Arele Harel offers an unconventional solution for Orthodox Jewish gay men who want to raise a conventional family: He fixes them up with Orthodox lesbians. His matchmaking service, which has just gone online, has met criticism on opposing fronts. Orthodox Jewish rabbis say Harel should be doing more to encourage gays and lesbians to try to change their sexual orientation. Liberal religious gay groups see Harel's approach as a ploy to suppress homosexuality. The matchmaking presents an array of challenges. The relationship may be loveless. The partners may be tempted to seek sexual satisfaction outside the marriage. And the couple may need assistance to get pregnant. But Harel insists he just wants to help people have children, an important commandment of Jewish law.The main aspiration here is parenthood, said Harel, 36, from his home in the Jewish West Bank settlement of Shilo. It allows them to become parents in a way that is permitted by religious Jewish law and prevents a conflict between their religious world and their sexual world. Most rabbis encourage gays to suppress their attractions, abstain from gay sex or undergo therapy to try to go straight. Harel believes some gays can alter their sexual orientation through therapy, and insists many do. The American Psychological Association has declared no solid evidence exists that such change is likely.Harel said his method is meant for those who can't change, yet want to remain observant and have children.Harel began matching lesbians and gay men six years ago, he said, because he recognized a deep distress among people facing a dead end road.More recently, Kamoha, a religious gay group, began receiving inquiries from gay men and lesbian women about this approach. Kamoha linked up with Harel and last month began publicizing the initiative on its Web site.

Harel says he has wed 12 couples, and several have had children. More than 80 people expressed interest in the matchmaking service when it was publicized by word-of-mouth, and since it went online two weeks ago, Harel says he has received dozens of emails.Rabbi Harel introduced us and there was a good initial click, wrote Sari and Avi, a couple Harel set up, in a testimonial on Kamoha's site. It's not love. It's chemistry, a sense of understanding and partnership, trust and appreciation.Harel was unable to persuade the couples he has already wed to speak to the media. But Kamoha referred The Associated Press to a man who has applied for Harel's services, a 35-year-old Orthodox Jew in the closet. He has had casual sex with men but desperately wants to raise a family. He said he has dated numerous straight women; none of the relationships led to marriage. It is a risky experiment but there is no other choice, said the man, who refused to give his name because he is hiding his sexual identity. He said he was willing to forgo love if it means being able to have children. He wants to try to refrain from seeing men when he is married but would discuss the issue with his wife if that changed, he said.Harel said as long as both parties are aware the other is dating, it would not be adultery in such a union. He said the same would not be true for a straight couple because they are sexually compatible and have no reason to look elsewhere. Jewish law forbids adultery.Harel contends that gay and lesbian partners learn to love each other once children arrive. Their love is based on parenthood. Parenthood is the glue and it's strong.

Harel leaves it to the couple's discretion whether to divulge their sexual identities to their children but he recommends they consult with a professional first.Potential candidates email Harel, who meets with them to assess if they are emotionally ready to be fixed up. Harel then picks a suitable match and introduces the parties. They are put in touch with therapists who are to assist them in their new life. Once they are married, they each pay around $400 for Harel's service.
Israel's secular majority has largely embraced the Western gay rights movement that has led to six cities, among them New York, legalizing same-sex marriage. There is no gay marriage in Israel primarily because there is no civil marriage and all weddings must be done through the Jewish rabbinate, which does not marry gays and considers homosexuality a sin and a violation of Jewish law.Gay adoption is officially illegal but some couples get around the law and surrogacy is an option for many same-sex couples. The partner of a parent can adopt the child of his or her partner. There are campaigns to allow for civil marriage which could eventually pave the way for legalizing gay marriage but Israel is far from both.Still, Tel Aviv is considered one of the most gay-friendly cities in the world, with annual pride parades filling streets and rocking into late hours.Among Orthodox Jews, homosexuality generally is considered an abomination. Gay observant Jews may be ostracized by their families and many opt to hide their sexual orientation. Only the more liberal streams of Judaism embrace gay couples and even gay rabbis. In recent years, a number of religious gay groups have emerged, joining pride parades and demanding to be accepted while not going so far as to ask for religious recognition for their relationships. The liberal religious gay group Havruta opposes Harel's approach, saying it seeks to erase homosexuals from the Orthodox community. They are saying, Changing them isn't possible, but how else can we hide their existence? If we can't fix them then let's set them up with lesbians, said the group's spokesman, Daniel Jonas.

Yonatan Gher, the head of the Jerusalem Open House, a gay community center and advocacy group, said he doesn't judge the lifestyle choice Harel advocates, but hopes young religious homosexuals don't feel pressured into choosing it.Rabbis have criticized Harel's method because it doesn't try to discourage gays and lesbians from seeking to change their sexual orientation. There is an alternative, said Rabbi Shlomo Aviner, from the Jewish West Bank settlement of Beit El. When people hear voices that say you won't succeed (to change), they think, Why bother trying?

Europe and U.S. should consider stimulating growth: IMF's Lagard Reuters By Brian Rohan | Reuters – SEPT 4,11

BERLIN (Reuters) - IMF chief Christine Lagarde said in an interview released on Sunday that Europe and the United States should consider stimulating economic growth, if the situation permits, to offset a crisis of confidence hitting the global economy.Looking at Europe, we recommend countries to adjust their austerity programs to a changed situation and consider measures to drive growth, news weekly Der Spiegel reported her as saying. If the United States launches a credible middle-term adjustment program, there is possibly room to abandon the short-term austerity measures and to introduce some measures to drive growth, she added.Lagarde caused a stir last weekend when she urged policymakers to force Europe's banks to boost their capital or risk derailing a fragile global recovery, a call she reiterated in the interview.European politicians last week rejected the call, which would involve raising up to 200 billion euros ($290 billion) in new capital, adding to fears that policymakers may be underestimating the severity of the debt crisis.

Turning to Germany, Europe's largest economy, Lagarde said its state finances were recovering well, hinting that Berlin may be well positioned to stimulate growth if it is hit by a downturn. It all depends on the circumstances, of course. If exports -- the foundation of the German economy -- collapse, the government could push back.If Germany stimulates domestic demand, it is good for the German economy and for its neighbors, she added, when asked if Germany should stimulate demand.(Writing by Brian Rohan; Editing by Jon Loades-Carter)

QE3 no silver bullet for markets
Reuters By Edward Krudy | Reuters – SEPT 4,11

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Friday's jobs report that showed hiring in the United States unexpectedly ground to a halt in August is increasing speculation the U.S. Federal Reserve will move to stimulate the economy. But will it help stocks? Fed action -- if it happens -- is no longer viewed as the elixir for the stock market it once was.
Wall Street tumbled over 2 percent on Friday as investors fretted more about the economic outlook rather than looking ahead to another round of Fed bond buying.
Next week, the question of whether the Fed will step up to the plate with another round of quantitative easing will take center stage with a highly anticipated speech from President Barack Obama. That could make for another volatile week. This time last year, anticipation of a second round of quantitative easing, or QE2, sparked an almost uninterrupted rally that lifted the S&P 500 around 30 percent from August to May.What a difference a year makes. Confidence in policy makers is sapping away as the economy languishes, the United States grapples with the loss of its top-notch credit rating, and the European Union seems to be coming undone at the seams.Wall Street sees an 80 percent chance the Federal Reserve will intervene in the bond market to lower long-term interest rates, according to a Reuters poll on Friday. But Friday's action in the stock market signaled that equity investors do not see that prospect as silver bullet for their woes. The broad-based S&P 500 index fell 2.5 percent on the day. This downdraft is based on sentiment and that has to be turned around, said Brian Battle, vice president of trading at Performance Trust Capital Partners in Chicago.I think we're in for a longer trend of either malaise or just a down channel.

That means traders and investors who were hoping for a return to normalcy after extreme volatility in August may have to wait a little longer.Obama is due to address a joint session of Congress on Thursday to lay out plans to create jobs, boost economic growth and lower the deficit. He faces an uphill struggle when it come to reassuring investors, who fault the lack of consensus in Washington. Heading into an election year, the disharmony is not likely to get better any time soon.Nonfarm payrolls were unchanged last month, the Labor Department said on Friday, and figures for previous months were also revised down to show employers created a combined 58,000 fewer jobs than had been thought in June and July. The U.S. Treasury market rallied after the data as Goldman Sachs and other U.S. primary dealers -- big Wall Street firms that do business directly with the Fed -- said they expect the U.S. central bank to start buying longer-dated bonds after its September 20-21 meeting.
Seasoned traders say that August's extreme volatility was one of the most trying periods in living memory, outstripping the 2008-2009 meltdown and the 1987 stock market crash on Black Monday.I've been doing this for 20 years and it's never been more exhausting, said the chief executive of a New York-based proprietary trading firm, who said many of his traders closed out their positions in August, reducing the firm's inventories to just 15 to 20 percent of what they could be.At least some of that volatility looks set to spill over into September until there is more clarity over the economy and what the Fed is likely to do at its September 20-21 meeting. But some fund managers who take a more long-term view are using pullbacks to cut back positions that have done less well while increasing positions in their preferred stocks. Many fund managers are still convinced the U.S. economy will avoid a recession and stocks will rally into the end of the year. One of them, Mark Luschini, chief investment strategist at Janney Montgomery Scott in Philadelphia, does not expect the Fed to act this month. He is not expecting a recession, but admits he has become more defensive. We used some of the volatility to swap out lower yields for higher yields, believing that a combination of income with capital growth potential will help us weather days like today,he said.Equity values should still hold their own if not appreciate given the still-good corporate profit picture.

Singapore PM says US, EU threaten global economy
AP By ALEX KENNEDY - Associated Press | AP – Sun, Aug 14, 2011

SINGAPORE (AP) — Economic problems in the U.S. and Europe pose a serious risk to world growth, Singapore's prime minister said Sunday.America and Europe have major problems, still unresolved, Lee Hsien Loong said in a speech. There's quite a possibility that the world will go into another recession.Singapore is the financial services hub of Southeast Asia and one of the world's richest countries. Lee's comments are his most pessimistic on the global economy so far this year.Global stock and commodities markets have plunged this month amid investor fears that the U.S. could be slipping into its second recession in three years and Europe's debt crisis could deepen.Lee said the first-ever downgrade of the U.S. debt rating by Standard and Poor's earlier this month reflected the country's unsustainable debt and deficit growth levels and the inability of political leaders to agree on a solution. If they don't correct it, they're heading for trouble, Lee said. But they're not able to correct it because there are deep divisions between the Democrats and the Republicans. The real issue is investors around the world lack confidence that governments will be able to make the hard decisions. The debt crisis in Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Italy threatens to undermine European banks which have bought bonds from those countries, Lee said.Singapore's economy suffered a brief, sharp recession in the first half of 2009, but rebounded to grow 15 percent last year and 4.9 percent in the first half of this year. The city-state of 5 million people depends on finance, tourism and manufacturing and is one of the most sensitive countries in Asia to fluctuations in external consumer demand.

Regulator sues major banks over subprime bonds Reuters By Margaret Chadbourn and Jonathan Stempel | Reuters – Sat, Sep 3, 2011

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK (Reuters) - A regulator sued 17 large banks and financial institutions on Friday over losses on about $200 billion of subprime bonds, which may hamper a broader government settlement of the mortgage mess left over from the housing crisis. The lawsuits by the Federal Housing Finance Agency, which oversees Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, surprised investors, dragging down bank shares and could add billions of dollars of legal costs at perhaps the worst possible time for the industry.Friday's lawsuits reflects how different parties, including investors, banks and different government groups are fighting over who should bear losses from a housing crisis that in 2008 drove the economy into its worst recession in decades.

The FHFA accused Bank of America Corp and its Countrywide and Merrill Lynch units, Barclays Plc, Citigroup Inc, Goldman Sachs Group Inc, JPMorgan Chase & Co, Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc and others of misrepresenting the checks they had done on mortgages before bundling them into securities.According to the lawsuits, the securities should have never been sold because the underlying mortgages did not meet investors' criteria. As more borrowers fell behind or went into foreclosure, the securities' value fell, causing losses.Nearly all the banks that were sued declined to comment or were not immediately available for comment. Others called the charges unfounded.Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are the epitome of a sophisticated investor, having issued trillions of dollars of mortgage-backed securities and purchased hundreds of billions of dollars more, said Mayura Hooper, a spokeswoman for defendant Deutsche Bank AG, in a statement.A Bank of America spokesman said Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are trying to shift responsibility to banks after earlier blaming losses on other factors. A spokesman for Ally Financial Inc, once known as GMAC, called the FHFA claims meritless.Bank of America faces three FHFA lawsuits, covering losses on more than $57 billion of securities. JPMorgan faces claims related to $33 billion of securities and Royal Bank of Scotland was sued over $30.4 billion of securities.Several large banks are also negotiating with all 50 U.S. state attorneys general on a comprehensive settlement to address mortgage abuses and limit future mortgage litigation. This new litigation could disrupt the AG settlement, said Anthony Sanders, finance professor at George Mason University and a former mortgage bond strategist.Banks might resist settling if they knew litigation from other regulators could deplete capital, he said. Before the FHFA lawsuits had even hit a court docket, financial experts offered blunt expectations for the outcome. The lawsuits will be settled, said Sean Egan, managing director of Egan-Jones Ratings Co, an independent credit ratings firm. The end result will be a further outflow of cash from the banks, and more importantly an additional black eye.

A TWIST

FHFA director Edward DeMarco is looking to minimize future losses for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which are owned by the government after being seized on September 7, 2008.The FHFA filed the suits before a three-year statute of limitations expired. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are pillars of U.S. mortgage finance.Wells Fargo & Co, the largest U.S. bank not sued by the FHFA, entered a tolling agreement waiving its right to claim the FHFA waited too long to sue, a person with knowledge of the matter said. The bank said Wells Fargo might have done this to give it time negotiate its own settlement, the person added.FHFA spokeswoman Corinne Russell and Wells Fargo spokeswoman Mary Eshet declined to comment. The KBW Bank Index closed down 4.5 percent on Friday, nearly doubling the losses of the broader market. Bank of America led the index lower, dropping 8.3 percent.Bank shares also came under pressure from signs the Federal Reserve could start selling short-term debt on its books and buy long-dated bonds to push longer-term yields lower.Such a move, known as operation twist, would hurt banks whose profit margin is tied to the short-term rates at which they fund and the longer-term rates at which they invest.Major banks already face potential payouts of tens of billions of dollars to settle regulatory charges of abusive mortgage lending and foreclosure practices, and other investor lawsuits over mortgage debt losses.Such payouts would reduce earnings and weaken capital levels, perhaps harming the ability of banks to lend money and provide much-needed life to a stalled housing market and weakened economy.Whether to take action for mortgage bond problems had been under discussion since Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were placed in conservatorship, a person familiar with the matter said.

While the ultimate amount FHFA will seek is still unclear, that person said it could top the $20 billion settlement being discussed by the banks and the state attorneys general.Arthur Wilmarth, a George Washington University law professor, said the banks might argue Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac knew how risky the securities they bought were.If the companies had reason to know mortgages were essentially being given to anyone with a pulse, then banks could argue they were at least partially at fault,he said.

A BLIZZARD

The blizzard of litigation against banks is hurting share prices because investors are unable to estimate the ultimate scope of a given bank's legal liabilities.Bank of America, for example, had intended its proposed $8.5 billion settlement in June with investors in Countrywide mortgage securities to resolve most litigation tied to its disastrous 2008 takeover of that home loan provider. But many parties are objecting, and that settlement did not stop insurer American International Group Inc from suing the bank for $10 billion over its own alleged losses.Nor did it stop Nevada's attorney general from threatening to withdraw from an $8.4 billion nationwide settlement with the bank. The AG now wants to sue the bank, accusing it of reneging on promises to modify mortgages.Meanwhile, the U.S. Justice Department in May sued Deutsche Bank, accusing it of misleading a U.S. housing agency into believing loans it made qualified for federal insurance. The FHFA's lawsuits follow an initial lawsuit in July against UBS AG seeking to recover $900 million of losses incurred on $4.5 billion of debt. One legislator praised the expected FHFA lawsuits.
Brad Miller, a Democratic congressman from North Carolina, said:Not pursuing those claims would be an indirect subsidy for an industry that has gotten too many subsidies already.Since Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were seized, taxpayers have spent more than $140 billion to keep them afloat.(Reporting by Margaret Chadbourn in Washington and Jonathan Stempel in New York; additional reporting by Clare Baldwin and Lauren Tara LaCapra in New York; Additional writing by Ben Berkowitz and Dan Wilchins; editing by Matthew Lewis, John Wallace and Andre Grenon)

Quick steps to tackle strong yen needed: Japanese econ ministers By Shinji Kitamura, writing by Kiyoshi Takenaka | Reuters – SEPT 4,11

TOKYO (Reuters) - Economics Minister Motohisa Furukawa said on Sunday he and three other economy-related ministers in Japan agreed that measures to respond to a firmer yen need to be compiled quickly to alleviate the negative effect of the currency's appreciation on the domestic economy. The agreement follows Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda's comment on Friday that Japan is facing an unprecedented crisis where industry is hollowing out because of a strong yen.The three other members of the newly formed Noda's cabinet were Finance Minister Jun Azumi, Trade and Energy Minister Yoshio Hachiro, and Tatsuo Hirano, who is in charge of reconstruction following a massive quake and tsunami in March. In the first meeting of the Noda government's economy-related ministers, no concrete steps were discussed, Furukawa said.Azumi said earlier on Sunday he will keep an eye on speculative moves in the currency market and take a decisive step if necessary, in a sign he will follow the footsteps of his predecessor Noda, who as finance minister, led currency intervention three times to curb the yen's rise.(Reporting by Shinji Kitamura, writing by Kiyoshi Takenaka; Editing by Ed Lane)

Israelis turn out for largest economic protest
AP By DANIELLA CHESLOW - Associated Press | SEPT 4,11

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — More than 400,000 Israelis poured into streets in cities across the country Saturday night, Israeli media estimated, in a show of strength behind a social protest movement that has rocked the country for two months. The demonstrations in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa and elsewhere against Israel's high cost of living, its housing crisis and distorted distribution of wealth marked the high point — so far — of a summer-long grass-roots protest movement that has ballooned from a few tents in Tel Aviv to a nationwide phenomenon that has delivered Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government its most serious domestic crisis.Israeli media said the turnout in Tel Aviv was more than 300,000, and more than 100,000 demonstrated in other cities. Israel's police did not give an estimate. Taken together, the numbers put the Saturday demonstrations among the largest in Israel's history, and the other large ones were over political issues like Mideast peacemaking, not social ills. The protest movement and its slogan of the people demand social justice have thrust Israel's economic issues to the top of the country's agenda and brought thousands into the streets each week.

In Tel Aviv, protest leader Itzik Shmuli called the gathering a historic moment. The new Israelis have a dream and it is very simple: we want to build our home in Israel, Shmuli shouted. We will not stop this protest until you, Mr. Prime Minister, give us real solutions.Saturday marked the eighth week in a row protesters have taken to the streets.I've had enough of always working and never advancing. You have to work several jobs just to survive. All the burden is on the middle class, said Sharon Riwkes, a 30-year-old clinical psychology resident in Tel Aviv.In response to the summer-long protests, Netanyahu has appointed a committee to address the demands. The demonstrators — a loose coalition of university students, social activists and disenchanted youngsters — have rejected all the reforms offered by the government and have pledged to continue protesting. The protests have included representatives of all segments of society, with the exception of ultra-Orthodox Jews. Many Israelis are concerned about the growing influence of an expanding community where most of its men study scripture and live on government handouts.A brief flare-up between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza deflected attention from the protests, but the large turnout Saturday indicated the focus has returned.
Israel emerged from the global financial crisis relatively unscathed.
