DOCTOR DOCTORIAN FROM ANGEL OF GOD
then the angel said, Financial crisis will come to Asia. I will shake the world.

JAMES 5:1-3
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

REVELATION 18:10,17,19
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

EZEKIEL 7:19
19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

REVELATION 13:16-18
16 And he(FALSE POPE) causeth all,(WORLD SOCIALISM) both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:(CHIP IMPLANT)
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.(6-6-6) A NUMBER SYSTEM

Central Bank ups bond purchasing over Christmas period
LEIGH PHILLIPS Today DEC 28,10 @ 07:57 CET

The European Central Bank on Monday announced that its purchase of eurozone government bonds jumped to €1.121 billion over the past week. The increase, almost twice the previous week's purchase of €603 million in government bonds, comes despite the low level of trading over the Christmas period, as Frankfurt maintains its eurozone vigilance in Frankfurt even amid turkey dinners and carols.Total government debt purchases by the ECB amount to €73.5 billion since it began a buying programme in May when the Greek government hit the wall in its attempts to sell public debt to investors.

The ECB debt purchase scheme is intended to ease pressure on government borrowing costs.Despite the jump in the last week, purchases still remain far below the scale of similar actions in May, when the central bank was intervening with buys of sometimes over €10 billion each week.Since the height of the Greek crisis, the purchasing programme had been significantly reined in.However, with the return of eurozone turbulence, the ECB in December upped its public debt acquisitions.

EU industry chief voices need to block Chinese takeovers
ANDREW WILLIS Today DEC 28,10 @ 09:16 CET

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - Europe should establish a new authority with powers to block foreign takeovers of strategic European businesses, EU industry commissioner Antonio Tajani has argued. The authority is particularly necessary as Chinese companies increasingly look to grow their overseas investments, the Italian politician said in an interview with German business daily Handelsblatt on Monday (27 December). Chinese companies have the means to buy more and more European enterprises with key technologies in important sectors, remarked Mr Tajani. It is a question of investments but behind that there is also a strategic policy, to which Europe should respond politically, he said.As a result, Europe should establish an authority tasked with examining foreign investments in Europe using the the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US as a model.Under the proposal, the European authority would determine if the acquisition (of a company) with European know-how by a private or public foreign company represented a danger or not.A number of European and American firms have been frustrated in recent years by the speed at which their Chinese competitors have acquired new technologies developed outside the Middle Kingdom.

For its part, China has gradually sought to remove its own restrictions on foreign investment but considerable limitations still apply.Reacting to the EU suggestion for a new authority, German economy minister Rainer Bruederle warned against overly quick decisions.Of course one can have an evaluation procedure taking into account security and public order concerns. But we shouldn't take hasty actions, Mr Bruederle told the Handelsblatt paper on Tuesday.Europe profits from the openness of its markets and offers attractive conditions for foreign investors,he added.

MUSLIM NATIONS

EZEKIEL 38:1-12
1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog,(RULER) the land of Magog,(RUSSIA) the chief prince of Meshech(MOSCOW)and Tubal,(TOBOLSK) and prophesy against him,
3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech(MOSCOW) and Tubal:
4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws,(GOD FORCES THE RUSSIA-MUSLIMS TO MARCH) and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
5 Persia,(IRAN,IRAQ) Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:
6 Gomer,(GERMANY) and all his bands; the house of Togarmah (TURKEY)of the north quarters, and all his bands:(SUDAN,AFRICA) and many people with thee.
7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.(RUSSIA-EGYPT AND MUSLIMS)
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.

ISAIAH 17:1
1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

PSALMS 83:3-7
3 They (ARABS,MUSLIMS) have taken crafty counsel against thy people,(ISRAEL) and consulted against thy hidden ones.
4 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
5 For they (MUSLIMS) have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:(TREATIES)
6 The tabernacles of Edom,(JORDAN) and the Ishmaelites;(ARABS) of Moab, PALESTINIANS,JORDAN) and the Hagarenes;(EGYPT)
7 Gebal,(HEZZBALLOH,LEBANON) and Ammon,(JORDAN) and Amalek;(SYRIA,ARABS,SINAI) the Philistines (PALESTINIANS) with the inhabitants of Tyre;(LEBANON)

DANIEL 11:40-43
40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south( EGYPT) push at him:(EU DICTATOR IN ISRAEL) and the king of the north (RUSSIA AND MUSLIM HORDES OF EZEK 38+39) shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.(JORDAN)
42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.

EZEKIEL 39:1-8
1 Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog,(LEADER OF RUSSIA) and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech (MOSCOW) and Tubal: (TUBOLSK)
2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts,(RUSSIA) and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands,( ARABS) and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6 And I will send a fire on Magog,(NUCLEAR BOMB) and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
8 Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken.

JOEL 2:3,20,30-31
3 A fire(NUCLEAR BOMB) devoureth before them;(RUSSIA-ARABS) and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
20 But I will remove far off from you the northern army,(RUSSIA,MUSLIMS) and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.(SIBERIAN DESERT)
30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.(NUCLEAR BOMB)
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

London Terror Cell Targeted Rabbis
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu DEC 28,10

Britain revealed Tuesday that it arrested nine terrorists last week, five days before a planned Christmas bomb blitz that would have targeted two rabbis, among others. The names of the rabbis were not released, and authorities did not reveal several details of the planned attack. All nine terrorists were either born in Britain or grew up there. Some of them are of Bangladeshi origin, according to the London Daily Mail.Besides two rabbis, whose addresses were written on a list, other targets included a London tourist attraction, the London Stock Exchange, Mayor Boris Johnson, the dean of a cathedral and the American embassy. The terrorist gang also had visited Big Ben, a McDonald's restaurant and other sites where large crowds gather.

They already had tested explosives in preparation for the bomb blitz, according to evidence presented in court. All of the men are under the age of 29 and were arrested in a series of dawn raids after London intelligence officers conducted a surveillance operation and recorded the cell’s conversation.Publication of the arrests and charges against the terrorists coincided with charges by the Israeli Defense Ministry that the Palestinian Return Center is operating in London as the organizational arm of Hamas.(IsraelNationalNews.com)

Media Parrots Hamas Line on Cast Lead Anniversary
by Maayana Miskin DEC 28,10

Mainstream media outlets are parroting Hamas' claims regarding the Gaza casualties of the Cast Lead counter-terror operation in articles marking two years since the beginning of Operation Cast Lead, from the last week in December 2008 until three weeks later in January 2009.Israeli researchers found that 1,166 residents of Gaza were killed in fighting, most of them terrorists. Fewer than 300 of those killed were civilians, they said.Names released by Hamas and Gaza media during the skirmish showed that the overwhelming majority of victims were young men. However, Hamas originally claimed that over 1,400 people were killed, and that more than 1,000 of those were civilians, saying that just 48 of its terrorists had died. While the terrorist group recently admitted that 700, not 48, of its fighters were among the dead, world media continues to repeat its initial claim that most victims were civilians.A report printed Monday by AFP stated that the operation killed 1,400 Palestinians, mostly civilians, while the Associated Press stated that Cast Lead left about 1,400 Palestinians dead, including many civilians, and brought heavy international criticism on Israel.Reuters stated that the 2008 operation killed some 1,400 Palestinians, but unlike AFP, it did not claim that most of the dead were civilians.

Media outlets around the world often repeated Hamas claims during Cast Lead, leading to harsh international criticism of Israel. In one case, Hamas and local United Nations officials accused Israel of killing dozens of civilians who had hidden in a UN school – when in fact, none of those in the school were killed. The Associated Press, and the British papers Guardian and Daily Mail were among those to accuse Israel of killing civilians in the school.UN official John Ging later clarified that Israel was right in saying that its troops had not fired on the school and that nobody in the school was killed.(IsraelNationalNews.com)

Easier Breathing with Advanced New Gas Mask
by Maayana Miskin DEC 28,10

The Defense Ministry, working with the Shalon company, has developed a new gas mask filter that allows wearers to breath easier. Dozens of the filters have been produced in recent weeks in a test run.If the filters can be produced at a cost equal to that of production of the current filters, they may be put into use in gas masks across the country. However, budget constraints could keep old filters in use if the new filters are found to be more expensive.Lieutenant-Colonel Lior Gabai heads the Home Front Command's project to update its equipment for protection in case of non-conventional attack. He praised the new filter, saying it can barely be felt. With this filter there is no breathing difficulty, as opposed to the current filter, which stalls the flow of air and makes it harder, he added. While the new filter is better than the old, the IDF's first priority is to get gas masks to all citizens, officials said. At the moment, there is not enough of a budget to supply masks for all citizens of the country, they said.(IsraelNationalNews.com)

Ambassadors’ Conference Ends on Sour Note
by Elad Benari DEC 28,10

For the past several years, Israel’s Foreign Ministry has taken advantage of the holiday season abroad to hold an annual conference for Israeli ambassadors around the world. This year, however, the conference ended on a sour note, Arutz Sheva’s Hebrew website reported on Monday.According to the report, Foreign Ministry employees decided to take advantage of the ambassadors’ conference and use it as a means of worsening the measures they have taken to protest an impasse in negotiations with the Ministry of Finance on improving their employment conditions.

Acting upon orders by the workers union, starting Monday morning the agenda for the conference was frozen, and before long the workers decided not to attend a scheduled meeting with President Shimon Peres.Acting Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rafi Barak, urged union members not to cancel the meeting with Peres, but they refused to attend. In addition, the union members handed the ambassadors and Foreign Ministry employees who came especially from abroad to participate in the conference black shirts bearing the words I am a poor diplomat. The workers union published data on Monday, according to which 10 per cent of Foreign Ministry’s employees are considered as being below the poverty line.

With food safety bill, U.S. government will spend nearly $1 million per person to prevent food-borne illness deaths Mike Adams Natural News
Tuesday, December 28, 2010

(NaturalNews) The recently-passed Food Safety Modernization Act, which was passed in order to prevent food-borne illness deaths in the USA, will cost $1.4 billion over the first five years. But nobody thinks about the economics of the issue. How many people are we going to save by spending this $1.4 billion, even assuming it works?

To answer that question, let’s look at the food illness fatality figures offered by the CDC:

- Out of the 5,000 food-borne illness deaths each year in the United States, only 1,809 are attributable to foodborne transmission according to the CDC (http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/EID/vol5n…).

- E.coli, which is often quoted in the big scare stories about food safety, only kills 78 people a year through food-borne transmission (52 plus 26, from the CDC’s chart). Interestingly, according to the CDC’s own numbers (from 1998), more people are killed from being struck by lightning each year than from e.coli.

- Listeria kills 499 people and Salmonella kills 553 people. But salmonella poisoning is easily acquired from store-bought chickens, of which two-thirds are contaminated with salmonella every day! Since the food safety bill doesn’t even address chickens, cows or other animals because those are handled by the USDA, this salmonella fatality figure probably won’t be reduced at all. (Salmonella comes largely from animals: Fowl, reptiles, etc.)

So how many people will the Food Safety Modernization Act actually impact? It’s primarily going to address e.coli poisoning and Listeria contamination. So we’re talking about a grand total of 78 + 499 people each year, or 577 people.By the way, for comparison, consider the fact that 300 people die in the U.S. each year from penicillin allergies. Another 14,500 people die each year from taking NSAID painkiller medications. Nearly three quarter of a million people are killed by conventional medicine (drug deaths, surgical mistakes, iatrogenic deaths, etc, source: Death By Medicine). Congress does nothing to address these causes of death, of course. The focus is on the few hundred people who die each year from the common causes of food-borne illness. So in order to prevent the deaths of 577 people each year for five years, the U.S. Congress is going to spend $1.4 billion! But that’s overly optimistic, it turns out. Because no food safety program is 100 percent effective in the first place.Let’s share a wild fantasy and imagine that the Food Safety Modernization Act might be a huge success and prevent 50 percent of those 577 deaths. That’s a wild stretch, of course, especially since the bill doesn’t even cover cattle, hogs and poultry, and that’s where e.coli originates from in the first place. But just for fun, let’s assume a 50% reduction in food-borne illness deaths. That means, if you do the math on this, that spending $1.4 billion over five years would prevent the deaths of 1,443 people from food-borne illnesses. That’s almost $1 million per person of taxpayer dollars being spent by the federal government for each food safety death prevented.

A million dollars per person. Is this really the best use of taxpayer money? It would seem that if you’re going to spend this money in order to save lives, there’s a way to save a hundred times as many lives with the same dollars…This $1.4 billion, by the way, would be used to fund a huge expansion of the FDA which would unleash a whole new army of FDA agents who run around the country auditing farms and greenhouse operations, then arresting those who don’t have their paperwork in order. It’s like a whole new TSA, except their agents aren’t confined to airports. They come to you and search your farm, your greenhouse or even your backyard garden operation (no, small farms are not automatically exempted from the food safety bill as was claimed by those who supported it).

Congress once again fails to understand economics
This food safety bill was yet another feel good bill that nearly everyone in Congress supported. Who wouldn’t want to be on the record voting for food safety? But as usual, Congress forgets that it is spending other peoples’ money. When you’re spending the taxpayers’ money, cost doesn’t really matter, especially to those members of Congress who habitually think bigger government is the answer to every problem. The real question, though, is the following: Is there a better way to spend $1.4 billion to save Americans’ lives?

The answer is: absolutely! For example, if you really want to save lives at a very low cost, all you need to do is hand out free vitamin D supplements to the population. Vitamin D3 supplements could easily be purchased for $10 for a 30-day supply (in volume). So a one-year supply of vitamin D would only cost $120. For $1.4 billion, you could provide a one-year supply of vitamin D for 11.6 million people, or nearly four percent of the U.S. population.Because vitamin D prevents 77 percent of all cancers (http://www.naturalnews.com/021892.html), you could slash the rate of cancer fatalities during that year for nearly 4 percent of the U.S. population! At the same time, because vitamin D boosts immune function and provides greatly improved immunity, you would also sharply reduce deaths from winter colds and flu (which the CDC claims kill 30,000 people a year).Vitamin D also helps prevent heart disease, obesity, kidney disorders and even psychiatric disorders such as autism and schizophrenia, meaning that with this one nutrient, you could slash the rates of several of the most devastating and costly diseases known to modern medicine.

Statistically speaking, you would save far more than 577 lives per year and at the same time, you would greatly reduce hospitalization costs and expenditures to the point where the $1.4 billion spent on these vitamin D supplements is actually paid back through the savings in Medicare / Medicaid expenditures. In fact, the payback on a vitamin D investment by the government for the population might be more like ten to one: For every $100 spent on vitamin D supplements, $1,000 would likely be saved in medical costs. This is a rough estimate, but you get the idea: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as they say.Instead of money going out the door, a vitamin D program would actually reduce overall government (and state) spending on sick-care management. So if you really want to save lives and money at the same time, instead of handing another billion dollars to the FDA which will only use it against the people, it would make a lot more economic sense to invest that money in a low-cost, extremely safe and highly effective nutritional supplement that could sharply reduce cases of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, depression and even mental disorders. Why can’t Congress understand economics and make rational decisions about smarter ways to spend money? The answer, of course, is because it’s not their money. This is why governments that spend taxpayer dollars always end up betraying the taxpayers. If it’s not their money, there’s never any real incentive to spend it wisely.

Economics 101
Congress has never really had a firm grasp on the fundamentals of economics, by the way. In spending your money, Congress acts with extreme arrogance, insisting that Big Government can solve your problems by spending more money — any amount of money — to keep you safe, secure and healthy. And they’re going to force you into a sick-care system, have FDA agents auditing your backyard farms, and outlaw raw milk just to make sure you stay healthy in the way Congress wants you to (which really means keeping you sick, of course). But as long as they’re spending YOUR money, who’s counting? It doesn’t come out of the pockets of Congressional members, does it? They get paid the same whether they waste your money or not, so the motivation is to blow as much public money as necessary for them to take credit for passing new safety measures that sound good on paper but really represent an economic disaster. It also brings up the question: How much is a human life worth when it comes to spending taxpayer dollars? Is it acceptable for the government to confiscate, for example, $1 million from the taxpayers to save the life of one person? If you answer yes, then how about $10 million per life saved? How about $1 billion? At what point do expenditures that are said to protect lives become economically unsustainable to the rest of the nation? And if spending money is the way to protect people, then why not have the government hire a personal shopping and food preparation coach for each and every person in America who can do all their shopping and food washing to make sure they don’t get e.coli poisoning? That would certainly save lives, too. As Big Government supporters might also add, it would create jobs! Sure it would, but government jobs don’t count toward the economy — they take away from the earnings of everyone else because they are funded with the confiscated tax dollars of the rest of the people who are actually working for a living! Even government workers who earn a paycheck see their own paychecks reduced by the government to take out federal taxes that are used to hire yet more government workers somewhere else!

Risks are inherent in the world
In all this, there’s also the point that your safety is not guaranteed in our world. Everything you do has some sort of risk associated with it, and most people do very little to avoid risks in the first place. People drive drunk. They fail to wear vehicle seatbelts. They go skiing and break their legs. They smoke cigarettes, they eat Happy Meals, they drink diet soda and they coat their bodies with toxic cosmetics and personal care products on a daily basis. The average American bathes themselves in over 200 synthetic chemicals before they even leave the house in the morning! They don’t even value their own lives enough to live a safe, healthy lifestyle to begin with.Real food safety is completely ignored by the federal government.Even in the grocery store, there are all sorts of additional threats to your safety that this food bill doesn’t cover. The food bill didn’t say anything about the aspartame in diet soda and how it may contribute to brain cancer. It didn’t mention the deadly ingredient sodium nitrite found in hot dogs and how it aggressively promotes cancer. It also didn’t cover the startling fact that the vast majority of all store-bought chickens are contaminated with salmonella right from the moment you buy them (http://www.naturalnews.com/028661_c…). Meat, you see, isn’t covered under this food safety bill. And that’s especially odd given that e.coli doesn’t grow in plants — it only grows in the guts of animals. It seems Congress failed to understand that simple biological point. They think e.coli magically appears in batches of spinach.

In fact, the grotesque and dangerous practices of the entire meat industry were completely ignored in the Food Safety Modernization Act. Instead, all the food safety problems are being blamed on plants. This means that $1.4 billion spent on food safety is actually going in the wrong direction! Instead of auditing greenhouses and small farms, the FDA food police should be going after the outrageously dangerous and inhumane practices of the factory animal operations such as cattle feedlots. That’s where the food poisoning originates. But, oh yeah, I forgot: The FDA doesn’t cover that. It’s the jurisdiction of the USDA. So why isn’t Congress giving money to the USDA to inspect factory feedlot operations? Because the corporations that run those feedlots have better lobbyists, of course. So Congress simply decided to throw the money at the FDA — after all, the word food is in the agency’s name — and then take credit for improving food safety in the USA.

Keeping up appearances
When you’re a member of Congress, you see, what’s far more important than actually solving problems is to appear to solve problems. If wasting another few billion dollars gives you the ability to claim, during the next election, that you voted for food safety, then that sounds great with voters. It might get you reelected so you can spend another two years wasting the taxpayers’ money on even more Big Government programs. That’s the business of Congress, after all: Stay in office and keep claiming authority over the lives of the American people. And with the Food Safety Modernization Act, they now want to control what you grow, even as they do virtually nothing to improve the actual safety of the food you eat.The truth of this whole scam is almost too much to swallow. In a nation where 100,000+ Americans are killed each year by FDA-approved medications, the government is going to spend $1.4 billion to try to prevent 1,443 deaths from food-borne illness while doing absolutely nothing to prevent pharmaceutical deaths. No wonder the American people have lost faith in Big Government. Every time you take a rational look at what the government is doing, it all resembles a circus of morons competing to see who can take credit for coming up with the biggest lie that the American people will actually believe. And year after year, they somehow manage to out-do each other.Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/030853_food_safety_government_spending.html#ixzz19OmDDVqR

From New York's MTA, LIRR to Boston's MBTA, winter storm slows transit
By Mark Trumbull - DEC 28,10

Despite sunny skies Tuesday, rail and transit systems in the Northeast were still struggling to get back to normal operations. New York area commuters faced the biggest challenges, but milder problems stretched from Philadelphia to Boston. The MTA system in New York has advised would-be commuters to consider traveling later in the morning if at all possible and warned of possible crowding issues due to limited service on subways and commuter trains.

MTA officials warned of subway service outages, particularly where lines were directly exposed to the snow, including in Brooklyn. The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) has suspended service on some routes and is operating a Martin Luther King Day schedule on its Babylon, Huntington, Port Washington, and Ronkonkoma branches.
The Metro-North Railroad (MNR) lines into New York are operating, but on a Saturday schedule on the Harlem, Hudson, and New Haven lines.Part of the challenge across the Northeast has been simply the volume of snow on tracks and roads. Crews worked to clear as much as two feet from rails near New York. But the transit systems have also battled problems with weather-impaired signals.

New York bus service? Don't ask.

Long Island Bus is operating very limited service due to road conditions, the MTA said on its website, where updates will be posted.Limited-Stop bus service in New York City remains suspended. Local and express service in the five boroughs is operating with delays and shortened routes, it said. We will only restore service where we can safely do so.Near Philadelphia, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority warned that rail passengers could face 30 minute delays, and a few bus routes are suspended. The New Jersey Transit system also has delays, after areas such as Port Elizabeth saw nearly three feet of snow. Trains are operating on an enhanced weekend schedule, bus service has been restored, and passengers in the central or northern parts of the state should expect delays due to local road conditions. The NJTransit.com website has additional weather-related information, such as a few trains that are canceled or delayed by up to an hour.In Boston, some commuter lines are running late by as much as 30 minutes, and a truck stuck on one track caused similar mild delays on the Kingston/Plymouth line, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) said. Subway and bus riders also faced some delays after the big dig-out.

US shakes off blizzard, but not travel misery
by Sebastian Smith - DEC 28,10

NEW YORK (AFP) – The US northeast began Tuesday to shake off the icy grip of one of the biggest blizzards in years, but beleaguered travelers faced at least another day of headaches in New York airports. After one last night of ferocious winds, the storm had moved fully out of New York by early Tuesday. The system, packing enormous snowfalls and gales, churned up through Maine and into Canada, leaving a cold tail as far south down the US east coast as the Carolinas. The lifting of the siege meant that New York, the hardest hit area in the blizzard beginning Sunday, could finally start getting back to normal.Snow plows and salt spreaders were hard at work before dawn in Manhattan, battling through knee-high snow in many streets. But officials expected it would take several days to get New York and the all-important transport hubs back fully on track following the sixth heaviest snowfall in city history. The three major airports of John F. Kennedy International, La Guardia and Newark International in New Jersey reopened late Monday, but cancellation of more than 5,000 flights meant a huge backlog and more delays.

Arriving flights at Newark were experiencing delays of an average of eight hours on Tuesday, the Federal Aviation Administration said. At JFK, delays for arriving flights averaged five and a half hours.Operations at La Guardia were reported closer to normal.Continental said that operations in New York and Newark remained disrupted.
On December 28, we will attempt to resume flights as the operation permits. Some arrivals will be postponed in the morning and early afternoon hours to assist with the operation.Aircraft meant to arrive in Newark on Monday were now arriving Tuesday, Continental said.JetBlue, which cancelled flights out of New York or Boston until Tuesday, echoed other airlines, saying that affected passengers would be able to re-book without charge until January 14.Conditions remained grueling for ground commuters, with bus, subway and train lines still snarled up.There continue to be major delays and in some cases suspensions in service across our transportation network that will continue through the morning and into the afternoon, the Metropolitan Transport Authority said in New York.Passengers could only hope for better service than on Monday, when many found themselves stuck at wind-blasted bus stops without buses and in stricken subway cars as they tried to get to work or home.

The rescue services were sometimes not much better off: police cars, ambulances and trucks sent to tow the many stranded buses often wound up stuck in the same snow and ice.Officials in eastern Canada said the blizzard had dumped heavy snow and on Tuesday more than 12,000 homes in eastern Canada were without electricity, some of them already for 24 hours.Flight schedules were severely disrupted in Toronto and Montreal.Meanwhile, an unusual cold snap in New Orleans led to tragedy when eight homeless people died in an abandoned building that caught fire.

Israel destroyed Syrian nuclear reactor in 2007, leaked cable reveals
By Agence France-Presse Friday, December 24th, 2010 -- 10:42 am

Israel destroyed a Syrian nuclear reactor in an air raid just weeks before it went online in 2007, said a US diplomatic cable released by WikiLeaks and published on Friday in an Israeli daily. On September 6, 2007, Israel destroyed the nuclear reactor built by Syria secretly, apparently with North Korea's help, then US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice wrote in the cable published in Yediot Aharonot newspaper. Our intelligence experts are convinced that the attack targeted by the Israelis is in fact an atomic reactor of the same type built by North Korea in Yongbyon, she wrote in the message dated April 2008.We have good reason to believe that the reactor was not built for peaceful purposes, she said, adding the attack came only weeks before the reactor was to become operational.Rice also noted the secrecy surrounding the construction of the nuclear facility, with the Syrian authorities refusing to invite the International Atomic Energy Agency or any media to inspect the site.

Syria has always denied that the structure targeted by Israeli warplanes was a nuclear reactor, although it has admitted it was a military site under construction.
Israel has for its part never denied that its air force attacked a target in Syria, without ever officially claiming responsibility for the action.Former US president George W Bush recounted in his memoirs that he resisted Israeli pressure to bomb the site.In 2008, current US President Barack Obama said when he was a Democratic hopeful for the White House that Israel was right to bomb the suspected nuclear facility in Syria.

Trading Places: Obama Considers Bilderberger Altman to Replace Summers
Kurt Nimmo Infowars.com December 26, 2010

Obama is ready to name a successor to National Economic Council Director Lawrence Summers who resigned his post in September. Summers worked diligently with fellow bankster minion and Goldman Sachs crony Robert Rubin in 1999 to trash the Glass-Steagall Act and usher in the financial crisis. Summers was Treasury Secretary at the time.It looks like the Bilderberger Altman is the odds-on favorite.Larry Summers has taken buku bucks from his bankster buddies while supposedly serving the American people. He received hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensation from Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Citigroup and Lehman for speaking engagements. He received $5.2 million in 2009 from the Wall Street hedge fund D. E. Shaw. In short, he profited handsomely from the engineered takedown of the economy.Summers may be a difficult act to follow, but Obama is stacking the deck. Possible replacements include Roger Altman, founder of Evercore Partners Inc., Gene Sperling, an adviser to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, and Yale University President Richard Levin.

It looks like Altman is the odds-on favorite.Former Clintonite and Democrat operative Paul Begala thinks Altman is the man. I worked with him. Altman is a remarkably able guy, Begala told the New Republic. He’s really fair. Would not put his thumb on the scale… I hate Wall Street, not as much as next guy, even more. But if you could get a guy with that kind of talent.Fairness and talent come in second to the fact Altman is a high ranking Bilderberg member. In fact, he is a member of the steering committee of the secretive globalist organization. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is also a mucky muck with the globalist Trilateral Commission.Altman was a general partner at Lehman, the bankrupt investment banking service that cooked its books and helped the banksters realize the largest one day point loss in Dow history and subsequently ushered in the engineered perfect storm of so-called economic distress factors that resulted in the unprecedented fleecing known as the bankster bailout delivered by Hank Paulson and duly rubber stamped by Congress.Clinton’s former deputy Secretary of the Treasury is also connected to the hedge fund investment group Blackstone. We’ve had a very capable and good cabinet that has helped move the president’s agenda forward, Obama’s corporate media stand-up, Robert Gibbs, told CNN today. We have a very talented team.Talented, indeed – for a gaggle if international banksters dedicated to realizing a one world totalitarian government and reinventing serfdom as presaged by CFR historian Carroll Quigley.

Irish face Christmas of austerity as EU announces loan calendar
ANDREW WILLIS 23.12.2010 @ 10:25 CET

EUOBSERVER / DUBLIN - The mood on the streets of Dublin is noticeably subdued for this time of year as Irish citizens knuckle down to a tough Christmas of austerity. The European Commission, meanwhile, has announced that EU rescue funds will provide the country's government with €40.2 billion in 2011 and 2012 as part of an international aid package agreed last month. In a statement on Tuesday (21 December), the commission said EU rescue funds would start issuing bonds early in the new year in order to raise the necessary funding, with Dublin set to receive €11.7 billion in the first three months of 2011.The rest of Ireland's €85 billion aid package will come from the International Monetary Fund, the Irish National Pensions Reserve Fund and bilateral loans from a number of EU member states. Many people doing their last-minute Christmas shopping in Dublin on Wednesday greeted the news with a shrug however, with the mood noticeably quiet for this time of year. It's absolutely diabolical, said Siobhán, a flower-seller on the capital's Moore Street for almost 25years.Nobody is spending any money because they haven't got it.

Formerly the poster child for open free-market economies, Dublin has unleashed a series of tough budgets since the financial crisis took hold in a desperate bid to rein in its runaway deficit, culminating earlier this month with a 2011 budget plan that includes €6 billion in spending cuts and tax rises.People are totally disheartened, everything has been cut in the budget from the people who need it most, said John, a shop-keeper on nearby Henry Street. They should have brought all those bankers to court but instead they've let them off scot-free.Economists argue over who has been most effected by Ireland's burst property bubble and banking-sector meltdown, with some including the country's David McWilliams saying it is predominantly middle-income earners. The reason people aren't rioting here is that this is largely a middle-class recession, but those are the sort of people who might support rightwing populists, he recently warned.Others say huge cuts in social payments for families and the unemployed and a broadening of the country's tax base to include more low-income earners will inevitably hit Ireland's most vulnerable citizens. The St Vincent de Paul society, the country's largest charity, has said thousands will be plunged into full-blown poverty by the government austerity plans. We've seen a huge increase in calls ... and a quarter of these callers are new,the group's vice-president John Monaghan told media earlier this month.

In a country where emigration brings back painful memories, the national statistics office says the phenomenon has once again reared its head, with English-speaking countries such as Canada and Australia among popular destinations. Many of Ireland's immigrants, predominantly Poles and other eastern Europeans who came over to enjoy the country's Celtic Tiger in recent years, have since returned, while others have decided to stay, at least for the moment. I have no plans to leave right now, said Michael, a Nigerian taxi-driver who has lived in Dublin for seven years. I will give its a few years and see how it works out.Officials worry the government's tough austerity measures linked to the EU-IMF support could turn Irish citizens against EU membership, but a recent Irish Times poll suggested a majority of citizens support the international bail-out.Out of the 1000 participants surveyed last week, 51 percent said they supported the aid package while 37 percent said they did not, with support coming largely from better-off individuals while the poorest social category was the most hostile.A similar pattern emerged when participants were asked if it was better to be part of the European Union. While a majority said it was better to stay in the EU, supporters of the nationalist Sinn Fein party which traditionally draws on less well-off voters said it would be better not to be in the 27-member club. For opponents of the bail-out and government austerity measures, including Siobhán on Moore Street, the prospect of early elections next year offers little comfort. What I read in the paper is that a new government won't be able to change anything. We're locked in now,she said.

Netanyahu: Lieberman Doesn't Represent Israel, I Do
by Gil Ronen DEC 26,10

The Prime Minister's Office responded to Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman's statement on Turkey's lies and chutzpah by saying that they represent Lieberman's personal assessments and positions. The position of the government of Israel is only that which the Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, expresses.Politicians from dovish parties attacked Lieberman for his statements. Welfare Minister Yitzchak Herzog (Labor) sent a message to Netanyahu, advising him: We must act maturely, find the channels for reaching [the Turks], even if it means circumventing Lieberman, who as foreign minister forgets that his role is to open doors, not shut them serially, especially with regard to Turkey.Lieberman is unable to understand the nuances of the situation, and causes great damage, Herzog said. He was also displeased with the Foreign Minister's remarks regarding the Palestinian Authority. The incessant noises that Lieberman is making indicate political distress. This is the time at which the Prime Minister needs to present principles for the final status map [of a treaty with the PA]. It is time that the Prime Minister finally understand that he must take out Israel Our Home [from the coalition] and put in Kadima, and advance quickly toward an agreement vis-a-vis the Palestinians.Kadima stated Sunday: For the umpteenth time, it has been proven that the Israeli government's mouth says the opposite of what its prime minister wants people to think about him. Netanyahu is not really Israel's prime minister.(IsraelNationalNews.com)

Ketzaleh: Netanyahu will Leave Israel One Day
by Gil Ronen DEC 26,10

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu (Bibi) will wind up leaving Israel with his family, National Union leader MK Ya'akov Katz (Ketzaleh) predicted Sunday. I have no doubt that Netanyahu will leave the Land [of Israel] when he ceases being Prime Minister, Katz said.Speaking on Arutz Sheva Radio, Katz - who has been severely critical of Netanyahu for a long time - escalated his rhetoric to new heights of Bibi-bashing.He betrayed his land and those who were loyal to him. He has defrauded this land. He is pretty like the Hollywood stars and he will move to Hollywood, where he will stay and write books. I have no doubt that he will take his wife and children and leave the Land, Ketzaleh said.Netanyahu should be removed from the prime minister's seat today, the fiery pioneer from Beit El said. For two years he has been prime minister and all he does is pronounce decrees against the Jews. He does not approve tenders, he is putting the Land of Israel out of commission. Everyone knows this, his Knesset members and ministers too; everybody knows that there is a mental problem here and do not know how to deal with it. He fears his own shadow. He only carries out polls all day.

Asked whether he would prefer Kadima leader Tzipi Livni in the Prime Minister's Office, Ketzaleh stepped back from the brink. It does not have to come at the price of [accepting] Livni,he explained. She is like him. She may be more honest than he is, but she has also lost the vision. She does not believe in any of what Zionism used to believe in. She only cares for the Arabs and Abu Mazen.Ketzaleh mentioned the name of Deputy Prime Minister Moshe Ya'alon as a possible replacement for Netanyahu.(IsraelNationalNews.com)

Hareidi Men Join IDF Intelligence
by Maayana Miskin DEC 26,10

Eighty hareidi-religious men joined the ranks of IDF intelligence this week, becoming the largest group to do so in the history of the Bina B'Yarok (Intelligence in Green) program to bring hareidim into the corps. The new inductees represent a 25% increase in hareidi-religious presence in the Intelligence Corp. They will begin work in a variety of positions, working with communications, computers, GIS systems, and in research. Most will work with computers or in communications.Young men from a variety of streams within the hareidi-religious community enlisted with Bina B'Yarok. Some are from the chassidic Gur and Sanz groups, others are Sephardi, and still others are Litvaks, members of communities based in European Jewish traditions.

The recruits came from cities across the country, including hareidi-religious strongholds like Beitar Illit and Modiin Illit (Kiryat Sefer) where IDF enlistment is often discouraged.Commanding officer Major Yoram Dan explained that the Bina B'Yarok program is designed with the haredi soldiers' unique needs in mind. The soldiers serve exclusively with men, are provided with food that meets demanding kosher specifications, and are given time to pray each afternoon, he said. Our goal is to make more options available for hareidi recruits, he added.Hareidi soldiers still face challenges, Dan admitted. The main challenge is simply joining the program, a socio-psychological challenge for many, he said. Some of the soldiers are from communities where full-time Torah learning is strongly preferred over IDF service, he said, adding, We have soldiers who need to change out of uniform on the train [home].(IsraelNationalNews.com)

Just as Europe thaws, snow storms hit US
DEC 26,10

NEW YORK (AFP) – Snow storms forced hundreds of flight cancellations at US airports Sunday, creating travel misery for thousands of Christmas travelers just as conditions in Europe began to ease.As hundreds of passengers trapped by freezing weather in Paris and Brussels returned home after European flights resumed normal service on Christmas Day, it was the turn of those in the United States to shiver and face disruptions. At the other end of the spectrum, Moscow's main airport was also closed to international traffic as unseasonably warm weather produced hail storms that wreaked havoc on the roads, downed transmission lines and terrified shoppers.Across the Atlantic, the northeastern part of the United States was expected to bear the brunt of dangerous blizzard conditions and dumps that could approaching two feet (24 inches) in the Boston area.Crews pre-treated roads with salt and prepared emergency vehicles in Washington, which was paralyzed for days by record snowfalls last year. The capital looked set to escape the worst of the conditions this time around, but blizzard warnings were issued for coastal New England, parts of New Jersey and New York city. The storm was expected to dump a total of between nine and 15 inches (22.8 to 38.1 centimeters) on the Big Apple as powerful wind gusts blow through the city.

Boston was forecast to receive up to 22 inches (55.9 centimeters) of the white stuff by Monday, with wind gusts as high as 45 miles (72 kilometers) per hour by that evening.Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia and North Carolina had all declared states of emergency to provide extra funding and resources to respond to the storm.Heavy snow forced the NFL to postpone an American football game for the second time in three weeks -- this time for the Vikings-Eagles face-off in Philadelphia. The inflatable roof of the Minnesota Vikings's Metrodome collapsed during the last major storm earlier this month. The storm was already bringing misery to travelers hoping to return home from their Christmas vacations. Many airlines waived fees for changing flights.Delta Air Lines said one sixth of its flights around the country, some 850, had been canceled.Continental Airlines canceled 265 departures, primarily from Newark Liberty International Airport, outside New York. It warned, though, that most domestic and international flights would be canceled through mid-morning Monday due to the disruption at its main hub.United Airlines had already canceled 110 flights -- in Boston, Philadelphia and the three main New York airports: Newark, LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy International.

We're trying to accommodate our travelers. We issued a travel waiver for travel from the 25th to the 27th to give our customers the opportunity to change their plans if possible, United spokesman Mike Trevino told AFP.We tried to pre-cancel as many flights as we could so customers wouldn't have to go to the airport only to find that their flight was canceled.AirTran Airways cancelled 81 flights to the northeast cities expected to be hardest hit, including New York, Boston and Philadelphia.
Southwest Airlines also canceled flights, mainly to and from Dulles International Airport and Baltimore Washington International Airport outside Washington, as well as Newark. We know many people are traveling for the holidays and we want everyone to be extremely cautious, North Carolina Emergency Management Director Doug Hoell told a local television station.Anyone who is thinking of driving during the next few days, should pay careful attention to the weather and traffic forecasts before heading out.Ice and snow snarled road traffic in several southeastern states, including Georgia's northern mountains. North Carolina's department of transportation reported interstate highways partially covered with snow and ice.

Americans in the deep south were treated to a very rare white Christmas Saturday.
Light to moderate snow blanketed communities in the southern Gulf states of Alabama and Mississippi, meteorologists said, while Atlanta, Georgia enjoyed its first white Christmas in 128 years.Snowfalls were expected to break records in the normally mild south, where at least the children were pleasantly surprised by the winter weather.

Amtrak cancels Boston-NYC service amid snowstorm
DEC 26,10

WASHINGTON – Amtrak is canceling train service between Boston and New York City as a major winter storm moves up the East Coast. There will be no more trains from New York to Boston after 5 p.m. Sunday, and service from Boston to New York will stop following a 5:10 p.m. departure. That's a total of eight trains canceled — five to Boston and three to New York.Service between Boston and Portland, Maine, also is canceled, as are trains between Richmond and Newport News, Va.Amtrak says service between Washington and New York had not been affected as of Sunday afternoon. The storm largely sideswiped the Washington area.

Winter storm bears down on US east coast CSM By Brad Knickerbocker – Sun Dec 26, 11:24 am ET

If you were dreaming of a white Christmas holiday and you live along the US East Coast, you might just get your wish today. So if you don't need to travel or be at work, best to settle in at home with a hot cup of cocoa and those reruns of It's a Wonderful Life.Weather forecasters predict a significant winter storm from the Mid-Atlantic through New England. Or as the National Weather Service puts it, An intensifying low pressure system is forecast to move northward along the US East Coast, bringing significant snowfall from the Mid-Atlantic through New England. That means light snow and wet roads turning icy in Georgia, a winter storm warning from South Carolina northward, up to blizzard conditions in New England. Look for heavy snow and strong winds in the northeast beginning Sunday evening, according to the Weather Channel, with the heaviest snows and strongest winds ... expected to impact areas from New Jersey to Southern New England by overnight tonight with blizzard or near-blizzard conditions expected in some areas.

The Northeast is expected to get the brunt of the storm, reports the Associated Press.Forecasters issued a blizzard warning for New York City for Sunday and Monday, with a forecast of 11 to 16 inches of snow and strong winds that will reduce visibility to near zero at times. A blizzard warning was also in effect for Rhode Island and most of eastern Massachusetts including Boston, with forecasters predicting 15 to 20 inches of snow.As the storm approaches, air travelers have been forced to make alternate plans.Continental Airlines has canceled 250 departures from Newark Liberty International Airport outside New York City. United Airlines canceled dozens of Sunday departures from Newark, Philadelphia, New York's LaGuardia and JFK, Boston and other airports. AirTran and Southwest Airlines also canceled flights, mostly in or out of Washington Dulles, Baltimore and Newark. Delta Airlines has canceled hundreds of flights, and American Airlines is anticipating many flight cancellations as well.More cancellations are expected. Most carriers were waiving fees for one-time changes in affected areas and urging passengers to make changes through their websites, according to the AP.

Amtrak has canceled some trains in Virginia.Weather Channel meteorologists make this prediction:Sunday afternoon and evening, snow will intensify in southern New England. At this time, the period of heaviest snow appears to fall in the NYC metro area late Sunday afternoon and evening, and in the Boston metro area Sunday night. Expect maximum travel impact during these times! Strong, gusty winds will also crank up, making for poor visibilities and dangerous travel conditions, particularly from New Jersey into coastal New England late Sunday into Monday. Blizzard warnings have been issued from New York City and Long Island northeastward along the southern Connecticut coast to the Providence and Boston metro areas, then northward along the entire coast of Maine. The high winds plus the weight of the snow will also cause widespread power outages and may result in some tree damage. The monster storm is the result of a low pressure system that will intensify off the North Carolina coast on Sunday morning and strengthen into a major storm as it moves northeast, according to the National Weather Service.he best advice comes from Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell: Try to get home early and if you don't have to travel don't go.

Storm heads to Washington after snowing in South By KRISTIN M. HALL, Associated Press - DEC 25,10

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A rare white Christmas in parts of the South was complicating life for some travelers as airlines canceled hundreds of flights, while snow was predicted for the nation's Capital and travel authorities warned of potentially dangerous roads. The National Weather Service said the storm could bring 6 to 10 inches of snow to the Washington region, beginning Sunday. The Weather Service was also forecasting possible Sunday snow for the New York and Boston areas, with overnight temperatures in the 20s and wind gusts up to 30 mph.In Nashville, some travelers who expected a smooth trip on Christmas got a rude surprise. We were hoping this was going to be a good day to travel, said Heather Bansmer, 36, of Bellingham, Wash. She and her husband, Shawn Breeding, 40, had planned to return home on separate flights after a visit to Breeding's family in Bowling Green, Ky. However, Breeding's flight through Atlanta got canceled. Now the couple planned to spend much of Christmas Day in separate airports.A white Christmas is not so welcome, Breeding said, as the couple stood in the lobby of the Nashville airport with their luggage in a cart.Brian Korty at the Weather Service in Camp Springs, Md., said travelers in the northern Mid-Atlantic region and New England may want to rethink Sunday travel plans. They may see nearly impossible conditions to travel in, he said.It would be a lot better for them to travel today than it would be tomorrow. In Pensacola, Fla., Jena Passut faced a quandary. The 36-year-old magazine writer drove with her husband and two kids from Fairfax, Va., to visit relatives. Now she worried about how to get back home amid the snow.Should we leave on Christmas night? My kids are normally good travelers, but if it's going to take us twice as long, it's going to be hell, she said. I like a white Christmas as much as anyone, but I don't want to drive in it.

The snow storm blanketed sections of the Midwest and hampered motorists there on Christmas Eve, before dipping south late Friday. Winter weather advisories were in effect Saturday afternoon from western Tennessee to the Carolinas and from West Virginia to Alabama.Delta Air Lines spokesman Kent Landers said 500 weather-related flight cancellations were planned for Saturday nationwide. That included 300 of the 800 scheduled departures from the Atlanta hub.Only a few hundred people milled about the cavernous terminals at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, many of them recent arrivals from international flights. Passengers were notified Friday when flights were pre-emptively canceled, so most didn't bother to show up. Many chairs were empty, restaurants too. Some couldn't help but chuckle that the flights were nixed long before the first raindrop or snowflake had fallen. Snow didn't begin falling in Atlanta until Saturday afternoon. They canceled hundreds of flights and there hasn't even been a drop of rain, said Stephanie Palmer, who was killing time with her friend Ibrahima Soumano as he awaited a flight to Mali. This doesn't make sense.Landers said Delta would decide on possible additional Sunday cancellations as the time approaches. Landers said anyone with travel plans through Boston, New York, Baltimore, Washington and Newark, N.J., on Sunday or Monday can change their flight without a penalty as long as they travel by Dec. 29.AirTran spokeswoman Judy Graham-Weaver said Saturday that the carrier had canceled seven Saturday flights and that afternoon flights from Atlanta would be delayed because of required de-icing of planes. AirTran too offered to waive ticket-change fees for some flights scheduled for this weekend and Monday in the South and Mid-Atlantic. The Nashville area had an inch or so of snow overnight, and roads appeared to be clear. There was also snow in northern Alabama.By Saturday morning, 4 to 5 inches of snow had fallen over several hours in Bowling Green, Ky., according to the Weather Service. Louisville had about an inch.

Louisville last had snowfall on Christmas in 2002, when a half-inch fell.Snow began falling about 8 a.m. Saturday in the North Carolina mountains, where up to up to 5 inches of accumulation were expected. The Weather Service said mountain roads would be impassable for all but four-wheel drive vehicles. In parts of Tennessee, Georgia and the Carolinas, the snow was likely to be mixed with sleet and rain before turning entirely to snow. Temperatures in Georgia were expected to dip into the 20s on Christmas night, possibly leading to slick road conditions. The snow made traveling tough Friday in northeastern Iowa, where the bulk of the storm hovered. Cedar Rapids received more than 7 inches of snow.Travelers could see airport screeners taking a closer look at empty insulated beverage containers like thermoses because air carriers were alerted about a potential terror tactic involving them, an administration official said. The Air Transport Association was expecting 44.3 million people on U.S. flights between Dec. 16 and Jan. 5 — up 3 percent over the same period a year ago but still below pre-recession travel volume. The average ticket price was $421, up by 5 percent. The AAA predicted overall holiday travel to rise about 3 percent this year, with more than 92 million people planning to go more than 50 miles by Jan. 2. More than 90 percent said they would be driving. Said Anderson of the storm: The timing is really bad.Contributing to this report were Associated Press writers Jessica Gresko in Washington, Karen Hawkins in Chicago; Warren Levinson and Verena Dobnik in New York City; David Goodman in Detroit; Eileen Sullivan and Samantha Bomkamp in Washington; Michelle Price in Phoenix; Dylan Lovan in Louisville, Leonard Pallats and Greg Bluestein in Atlanta and Mark Pratt in Boston.

Storm makes up year's wildest weather
By Philip Duncan 5:30 AM Sunday Dec 26, 2010

This was not a year of extremes weatherwise, despite droughts, floods, tornados and snow. It's easy for the media to use the word extreme but really the stormy weather events this year were fairly isolated and few and far between.

Here are the highlights from the WeatherWatch.co.nz archives:

* Jan 21: Drought zone declared in Northland but, ironically, on that same day the North Island is pummelled by heavy showers and thunderstorms.

* Jan 27: A major electrical storm lights up the night skies in Hamilton.

* April 27: For the first time in months, nationwide rain is forecast.

* May 24: Impressive rainfall figures are released following a nationwide deluge. Whakatane received 150mm within 24 hours but, incredibly, 70mm of that fell in just two hours - and 46mm fell in only one hour. Parts of North Otago received more than a month's rainfall in just 24 hours, causing serious flooding.

* Sept 17: A storm the size of Australia hits New Zealand several days after WeatherWatch.co.nz exclusively predicted it.

This was the biggest weather event of this year, outside of droughts.

* Up to 75,000 people are without power during storm's duration;

* The top floor of a house in Auckland is completely blown to pieces by a twister; other tornados are reported in Auckland and Waikato;

* Trees crush and hit cars in Auckland.;

* More than 7000 lightning strikes are recorded around the country;

* Numerous state highways across the country are closed, including Auckland's northwestern motorway. The Weekend Herald suffers up to nine-hour delays getting the paper delivered because of a power outage;

* Half a million lambs are killed by wintry blast in Southland;

* Brand new Stadium Southland suffers catastrophic damage when the roof collapses under heavy snow;

* Civil Defence warns Aucklanders to stay away from West Coast due to 8m swells. Hurricane force winds, peaking at 154km/h, hit the Manukau Heads;

* Oct/Nov: Parts of Northland and Auckland receive their hottest spring on record.

* Dec 18: Heavy rain and high humidity moves into northern New Zealand, bringing relief to some farmers but causing sleepless nights for many people.

Meanwhile, dry heat hits the South Island with Christchurch reaching 33C and a day earlier Invercargill takes the national high with 27C.

Pope urges courage for Catholics in China, Iraq By FRANCES D'EMILIO, Associated Press Frances - DEC 25,10

VATICAN CITY – Iraqi Christians celebrated a somber Christmas in a Baghdad cathedral stained with dried blood, while Pope Benedict XVI exhorted Chinese Catholics to stay loyal despite restrictions on them in a holiday address laced with worry for the world's Christian minorities.Saturday's grim news seemed to highlight the pope's concern for his flock's welfare. In northern Nigeria, attacks on two churches by Muslim sect members claimed six lives, while bombings in central Nigeria, a region plagued by Christian-Muslim violence, killed 32 people, officials said.Eleven people including a priest were injured by a bombing during Christmas Mass in a police chapel in the Philippines, which has the largest Catholic population in Asia. The attack took place on Jolo island, a stronghold of al-Qaida linked militants. But joy seemed to prevail in Bethlehem, the West Bank town where Jesus was born, which bustled with its biggest crowd of Christian pilgrims in years. The suffering of Christians around the world framed much of the pontiff's traditional Christmas Day Urbi et Orbi message (Latin for to the city and to the world). Bundled up in an ermine-trimmed crimson cape against a chilly rain, he delivered his assessment of world suffering from the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica.Benedict's exhortation to Catholics who have risked persecution in China highlighted a spike in tensions between Beijing and the Vatican over the Chinese government's defiance of the pope's authority to name bishops. The pope has also been distressed by Chinese harassment of Rome-loyal bishops who didn't want to promote the state-backed official Catholic church.

May the birth of the savior strengthen the spirit of faith, patience and courage of the faithful of the church in mainland China, that they may not lose heart through the limitations imposed on their freedom of religion and conscience, Benedict said, praying aloud.Chinese church officials did not immediately comment late Saturday. A day earlier, one said the Vatican bears responsibility for restoring dialogue after it had criticized leadership changes in China's official church.Persecution of Christians has been a pressing concern at the Vatican of late, especially over its dwindling flock in the Middle East. Christians only make up about 2 percent of the population in the Holy Land today, compared to about 15 percent in 1950. Earlier this month Benedict denounced lack of freedom of worship as a threat to world peace.

In Iraq, Christians have faced repeated violence by militants intent on driving them out of the country. At Our Lady of Salvation church in Baghdad, bits of dried flesh and blood remained stuck on the ceiling, grim reminders of the Oct. 31 attack during Mass that killed 68 people. Black cassocks representing the two priests who perished in the al-Qaida assault hung from a wall. Bullet holes pocked the walls of the church, now surrounded by concrete blast barriers.Reflecting the pope's hope that Christian minorities can survive in their homelands, Archbishop Matti Shaba Matouka told the 300 worshippers: No matter how hard the storm blows, love will save us.After the October siege, about 1,000 Christian families fled to the relative safety of northern Iraq, according to U.N. estimates.More than 100,000 pilgrims poured into Bethlehem since Christmas Eve, twice as many as last year, Israeli military officials said, calling it the highest number of holiday visitors in a decade.(It's) a really inspiring thing to be in the birthplace of Jesus at Christmas, said Greg Reihardt, 49, from Loveland, Colorado.Still, visitors entering Bethlehem had to cross through a massive metal gate in the separation barrier that Israel built between Jerusalem and the town during a wave of Palestinian attacks in last decade.Benedict said he hoped Israelis and Palestinians would be inspired to strive for a just and peaceful coexistence.

The pope also prayed that Christmas might promote reconciliation in the tense Korean peninsula. The top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan crisscrossed the country, making a Christmas visit to coalition troops at some of the main battle fronts in a show of appreciation and support in the 10th year of the war against the Taliban.
Gen. David Petraeus started his visit by traveling in a C-130 cargo plane from the capital, Kabul, to the northern province of Kunduz, telling troops with the U.S. Army's 1-87, 10th Mountain Division that on this day, there was no place that (he) would rather be than here where the focus of our effort was.Snow in Europe and the United States kept many from reaching their loved ones in time for the holidays. At airports in Paris and Brussels, hundreds of travelers received their own special Christmas present — a flight out after spending Christmas Eve curled up on hard terminal floors.I've never had such a Christmas before, said Ron Van Kooe, who slept overnight at the Brussels terminal. It's one not to forget.A rare white Christmas in the southern U.S. was complicating life for travelers as airlines canceled some 500 flights Saturday, including 300 of the 800 scheduled departures from Atlanta's international airport. They canceled hundreds of flights and there hasn't even been a drop of rain, said Stephanie Palmer. This doesn't make sense.Brian Korty of the National Weather Service said travelers in the northern Mid-Atlantic region and northeastern New England states may want to rethink Sunday travel plans due to a storm that could dump 5 inches (12.5 centimeters) or more of snow on the Washington area. They may see nearly impossible conditions to travel in,Korty said.Dalia Nammari in Bethlehem, Rebecca Santana in Baghdad, Ian Deitch in Jerusalem, Ahmed Mohammed in Jos, Nigeria, Cassandra Vinograd in London, Oleg Cetinic in Paris and Lucas L. Johnson II in Nashville, Tennessee, contributed to this report.Online:

Rocket with Indian satellite explodes after launch By ASHOK SHARMA, Associated Press – Sat Dec 25, 11:34 am ET

NEW DELHI – A rocket carrying an Indian communication satellite exploded just after liftoff Saturday in the second launch failure for India's space agency this year.
Television images showed the rocket exploding in smoke and fire just after it launched from the Sriharikota space center in Andhra Pradesh state. It was carrying a GSAT-5P communication satellite into orbit. The vehicle developed an error 47 seconds after liftoff and lost command, leading to a higher angle in the flight, said K. Radhakrishnan, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization. That caused a higher stress, breaking up the vehicle, Radhakrishnan told reporters. In April, a similar rocket on a developmental flight plunged into the Bay of Bengal. The ISRO said its rotor seized and turbine casing ruptured, probably due to excessive pressure and thermal stresses.Yashpal, a retired Indian scientist and independent commentator, said he was very disappointed by Saturday's failure, but other countries too have experienced such problems.I hope it's just one of those things, Yashpal, who uses one name, told reporters.

India is planning its first manned space flight in 2016.An Indian satellite launched in 2008 to orbit the moon was abandoned last year after communication links snapped and scientists lost control of the satellite.India is the fifth country after United States, Russia, China and France to enter the commercial satellite launch market. The country has sought to convert its rise as an economic power — built on a thriving high-tech sector — into global clout in other areas.Since 1994, India's space program has launched a number of Indian-made satellites. It's also been able to launch nine successful space flights consecutively.

Female bomber kills 45 at food center in Pakistan By ANWARULLAH KHAN, Associated Press – Sat Dec 25, 5:47 pm ET

KHAR, Pakistan – A burqa-clad female suicide bomber in Pakistan lobbed hand grenades, then detonated her explosive belt among a crowd at an aid center Saturday, killing at least 45 people in militants' latest strike against the authorities' control over the key tribal region bordering Afghanistan.Police believed it was the first time Islamic militants have sent a woman to carry out a suicide attack in Pakistan, where the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan against al-Qaida and the Taliban insurgents continues to spill over despite Islamabad's repeated claims of victory on its side of the porous border. The bomber, dressed in the head-to-toe burqa robes that women commonly wear Pakistan and Afghanistan, was challenged by police at a check point, officials said. She then charged toward a group of 300 people lined up outside the food aid distribution center in the town of Khar, tossing two hand grenades before blowing herself up, officials said. The crowd was made up of people who have fled conflicts elsewhere in the area.President Barack Obama condemned the bombing as outrageous. In a statement released in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he was spending Christmas, Obama said, Killing innocent civilians outside a World Food Program distribution point is an affront to the people of Pakistan, and to all humanity.

The attack in Khar, the main city in the Bajur region of Pakistan's northwest, came a day after 150 militants waged pitched gun battles against five security posts in the adjourning Mohmand tribal region to the south. The fighting, which left 11 soldiers and 24 militants dead, was an unusually strong show of strength by insurgents in border country that the military has twice claimed to have cleaned of militants.Helicopter gunships backed by artillery continued the battle on Saturday, pounding enemy hideouts and killing another 40 militants, said Amjad Ali Khan, the top government official in Mohmand. The tribal regions are of major concern to the U.S. because they have been safe havens for militants fighting NATO and American troops across the border in Afghanistan. The U.S. has long pressured Pakistan to clear the tribal belt of the insurgents. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for Saturday's suicide attack in Khar, through its spokesman, Azam Tariq. The spokesman suggested the victims may have been targeted because most of them belonged to the Salarzai tribe, which was among the first to set up a militia — known as a lashkar — to fight the Taliban in 2008. Other tribes later formed similar militias to resist the militants. All anti-Taliban forces — like lashkars, army and security forces — are our target, he said. We will strike them whenever we have an opportunity. The attack killed 45 people, including six policemen, and wounded more than 100, at least 30 critically, said Tariq Khan, a government official in the Bajur region.

Police said the victims were from various parts of Bajur who gather daily at the center to collect food tokens distributed by the World Food Program and other agencies to conflicted-affected people in the region. The people were displaced by an army offensive against Taliban militants in the region in early 2009.Islamist militants battling the state have attacked buildings handing out humanitarian aid in Pakistan before, presumably because they are symbols of the government and Western influence.Tariq Khan and another local official, Sohail Khan, said an examination of the human remains has confirmed the bomber was a woman.Hasan Askari Rizvi, a Lahore-based security and political analyst, said the suicide bombing appeared to be the first carried out by a woman in Pakistan. It is no surprise. They can use a woman, a child or whatever, Rizvi said. Human life is not important to them, only the objective they are pursuing of undermining state power, he added.Male suicide bombers often don the burqa — an Islamic dress that also covers the woman's face — as a disguise. In 2007, officials initially claimed Pakistan's first female suicide bomber had killed 14 people in the northwest town of Bannu but the attacker was later identified as a man. Islamic militants in Iraq have used women suicide bombers several times, since women in their all-enveloping robes are seen as able to pass more easily through security, especially since male security officers are often hesitant to search women.

Akbar Jan, 45, who sustained leg wounds in the bombing, said from his hospital bed that people were lining up for the ration coupons when the explosion went off. We thought someone had fired a rocket, he told The Associated Press. He said within seconds he saw the ground strewn with the wounded.I realized a little later that I myself have suffered wounds,he said.Everybody was crying. It was blood and human flesh everywhere.Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani condemned the bombing and said Pakistanis are united against them.Bajur is on the northern tip of Pakistan's semiautonomous tribal belt, bordering Afghanistan and the so-called settled areas in Pakistan. It has served as a key transit point and hideout for al-Qaida and the Taliban. The military first declared victory in Bajur following a six-month operation launched in late 2008. But the army was forced to launch a follow-up operation in late January this year and declared victory again about a month later. Still, violence has persisted.Associated Press writer Ishtiaq Mahsud in Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan, contributed to this report.

Nigeria: At least 38 killed in Xmas Eve attacks By AHMED MOHAMMED and NJADVARA MUSA, Associated Press – Sat Dec 25, 11:31 am ET

JOS, Nigeria – Multiple explosions in central Nigeria have killed 32 people and six others died in attacks by Muslim sect members on two churches in the north, officials said Saturday.Police spokesman Mohammed Lerama said that 32 people died and at least 74 were injured in four bomb blasts Friday night that went off in close succession in different parts of Jos in central Nigeria — a region violently divided between Christians and Muslims.Manasie Phampe, the Red Cross secretary in Jos, gave slightly different figures and said that 52 people were injured, and that some of the injured were in intensive care at the Jos University Teaching Hospital. We have commenced investigations and are making efforts to calm people down, said Lerama.

Religious violence has claimed over 500 lives this year in Jos and neighboring towns and villages, but the situation was believed to have calmed down.Nigeria, a country of 150 million people, is almost evenly split between Muslims in the north and the predominantly Christian south. The blasts happened in central Nigeria, in the nation's middle belt, where dozens of ethnic groups vie for control of fertile lands.

The violence, though fractured across religious lines, often has more to do with local politics, economics and rights to grazing lands. The government of Plateau State, where Jos is the capital, is controlled by Christian politicians who have blocked Muslims from being legally recognized as citizens. That has locked many out of prized government jobs in a region where the tourism industry and tin mining have collapsed in the last decades. What has happened on the eve of Christmas is unfortunate, especially at this time when we want to ensure peace and security in the state, said Gregory Yenlong, the state commissioner for information. He said that nobody had claimed responsibility for Friday's attacks in Jos.This is the first major attack in Jos since the Plateau State government lifted a curfew on May 20. The curfew had first been imposed in November 2008 during postelection violence but it was extended in January following clashes between Christian and Muslim groups.

More than 300 people_ mostly Muslim — were killed in the January violence in Jos and surrounding villages. The curfew improved the security within a city that has hosted numerous peace conferences to address the violence but the killings continued outside.Twelve people were gruesomely murdered in March in a small Christian village, attackers cutting out most of their victims' tongues and there are still regular attacks outside Jos.Also Friday, six people died in attacks on two churches in Nigeria's northern region.State Police chief Mohammed Abubakar said members of the Muslim sect, Boko Haram, attacked two churches at opposite ends of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, late Christmas Eve.Maiduguri is about 320 miles (520 kilometers) northeast of Jos. The attacks in both cities have not been linked, but Boko Haram was first based in the city of Bauchi, only 75 miles (120 kilometers) from Jos, before moving its operations to Maiduguri.Danjuma Akawu, secretary of Victory Baptist Church said about 30 men attacked his church on Christmas Eve, killing five people, including the pastor, two choir members rehearsing for a late-night carol service and two passersby who were attacked by the mob.Akawu, who escaped with other witnesses after climbing the church fence, said that the mob was armed with guns, knives and petro-bombs.He said the attackers came in three cars and dragged the pastor out of his house within the church premises before shooting him to death. They drove off after setting the church and pastor's house ablaze close to the Maiduguri International Airport.

At the opposite end of the city, Rev. Haskanda Jessu of Church of Christ in Nigeria said that three men attacked his church an hour later, killing a 60-year-old security guard, Philip Sopso. The church was empty at the time of the attack. Jessu said the attackers were armed with rifles. The Borno State police chief said the attacks could have been prevented if police officers had heeded warnings of a planned attack. The police divisions had enough vehicles to prevent these killings, Abubakar said.Police have not made arrests but accuse Boko Haram members of a rash of targeted killings in recent months during which more than 30 people have been killed including police officers, soldiers, political and spiritual leaders.Boko Haram means Western education is sacrilege in the Hausa language. Its members re-emerged recently after starting a July 2009 riot that led to a security crackdown that left 700 people dead. The Christmas Eve killings in Jos and Maiduguri add to the tally of thousands who already have perished in Africa's most populous country in the last decade over religious and political frictions.Musa contributed from Maiduguri, Nigeria.

TORAH PORTION VAEIRA EXODUS 6:2-9:35

EXODUS 6:2 - 9:35
2 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD:
3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.
4 And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers.
5 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.
6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:
7 And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
8 And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the LORD.
9 And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they hearkened not unto Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage.
10 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
11 Go in, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.
12 And Moses spake before the LORD, saying, Behold, the children of Israel have not hearkened unto me; how then shall Pharaoh hear me, who am of uncircumcised lips?
13 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, and gave them a charge unto the children of Israel, and unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
14 These be the heads of their fathers' houses: The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel; Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi: these be the families of Reuben.
15 And the sons of Simeon; Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman: these are the families of Simeon.
16 And these are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations; Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari: and the years of the life of Levi were an hundred thirty and seven years.
17 The sons of Gershon; Libni, and Shimi, according to their families.
18 And the sons of Kohath; Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel: and the years of the life of Kohath were an hundred thirty and three years.
19 And the sons of Merari; Mahali and Mushi: these are the families of Levi according to their generations.
20 And Amram took him Jochebed his father's sister to wife; and she bare him Aaron and Moses: and the years of the life of Amram were an hundred and thirty and seven years.
21 And the sons of Izhar; Korah, and Nepheg, and Zichri.
22 And the sons of Uzziel; Mishael, and Elzaphan, and Zithri.
23 And Aaron took him Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab, sister of Naashon, to wife; and she bare him Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
24 And the sons of Korah; Assir, and Elkanah, and Abiasaph: these are the families of the Korhites.
25 And Eleazar Aaron's son took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife; and she bare him Phinehas: these are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families.
26 These are that Aaron and Moses, to whom the LORD said, Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their armies.
27 These are they which spake to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Israel from Egypt: these are that Moses and Aaron.
28 And it came to pass on the day when the LORD spake unto Moses in the land of Egypt,
29 That the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, I am the LORD: speak thou unto Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say unto thee.
30 And Moses said before the LORD, Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh hearken unto me?

EXODUS 7:1-25
1 And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.
2 Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.
3 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.
4 But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.
5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.
6 And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they.
7 And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh.
8 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
9 When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent.
10 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent.
11 Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.
12 For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods.
13 And he hardened Pharaoh's heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh's heart is hardened, he refuseth to let the people go.
15 Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river's brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand.
16 And thou shalt say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear.
17 Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.
18 And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river.
19 And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.
20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.
21 And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
22 And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the LORD had said.
23 And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he set his heart to this also.
24 And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river.
25 And seven days were fulfilled, after that the LORD had smitten the river.

EXODUS 8:1-32
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
2 And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs:
3 And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into thine house, and into thy bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneadingtroughs:
4 And the frogs shall come up both on thee, and upon thy people, and upon all thy servants.
5 And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.
6 And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.
7 And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt.
8 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Intreat the LORD, that he may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the LORD.
9 And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only?
10 And he said, To morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word: that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God.
11 And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy houses, and from thy servants, and from thy people; they shall remain in the river only.
12 And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh: and Moses cried unto the LORD because of the frogs which he had brought against Pharaoh.
13 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields.
14 And they gathered them together upon heaps: and the land stank.
15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
16 And the LORD said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
17 And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
18 And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast.
19 Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
20 And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
21 Else, if thou wilt not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy houses: and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground whereon they are.
22 And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth.
23 And I will put a division between my people and thy people: to morrow shall this sign be.
24 And the LORD did so; and there came a grievous swarm of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants' houses, and into all the land of Egypt: the land was corrupted by reason of the swarm of flies.
25 And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land.
26 And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us?
27 We will go three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the LORD our God, as he shall command us.
28 And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me.
29 And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will intreat the LORD that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, to morrow: but let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.
30 And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD.
31 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and he removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; there remained not one.
32 And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, neither would he let the people go.

EXODUS 9:1-35
1 Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
2 For if thou refuse to let them go, and wilt hold them still,
3 Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which is in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep: there shall be a very grievous murrain.
4 And the LORD shall sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt: and there shall nothing die of all that is the children's of Israel.
5 And the LORD appointed a set time, saying, To morrow the LORD shall do this thing in the land.
6 And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.
7 And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the people go.
8 And the LORD said unto Moses and unto Aaron, Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the heaven in the sight of Pharaoh.
9 And it shall become small dust in all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt.
10 And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast.
11 And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.
12 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken unto Moses.
13 And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
14 For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.
15 For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may smite thee and thy people with pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth.
16 And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.
17 As yet exaltest thou thyself against my people, that thou wilt not let them go?
18 Behold, to morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now.
19 Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the field; for upon every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.
20 He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses:
21 And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.
22 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.
23 And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.
24 So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
25 And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field.
26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.
27 And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
28 Intreat the LORD (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer.
29 And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto the LORD; and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know how that the earth is the LORD'S.
30 But as for thee and thy servants, I know that ye will not yet fear the LORD God.
31 And the flax and the barley was smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was bolled.
32 But the wheat and the rie were not smitten: for they were not grown up.
33 And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands unto the LORD: and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth.
34 And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.
35 And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, neither would he let the children of Israel go; as the LORD had spoken by Moses.

PROPHETS PORTION

EZEKIEL 28:25-29:21
25 Thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the people among whom they are scattered, and shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the heathen, then shall they dwell in their land that I have given to my servant Jacob.
26 And they shall dwell safely therein, and shall build houses, and plant vineyards; yea, they shall dwell with confidence, when I have executed judgments upon all those that despise them round about them; and they shall know that I am the LORD their God.
1 In the tenth year, in the tenth month, in the twelfth day of the month, the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, set thy face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him, and against all Egypt:
3 Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself.
4 But I will put hooks in thy jaws, and I will cause the fish of thy rivers to stick unto thy scales, and I will bring thee up out of the midst of thy rivers, and all the fish of thy rivers shall stick unto thy scales.
5 And I will leave thee thrown into the wilderness, thee and all the fish of thy rivers: thou shalt fall upon the open fields; thou shalt not be brought together, nor gathered: I have given thee for meat to the beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven.
6 And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the LORD, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel.
7 When they took hold of thee by thy hand, thou didst break, and rend all their shoulder: and when they leaned upon thee, thou brakest, and madest all their loins to be at a stand.
8 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring a sword upon thee, and cut off man and beast out of thee.
9 And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD: because he hath said, The river is mine, and I have made it.
10 Behold, therefore I am against thee, and against thy rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even unto the border of Ethiopia.
11 No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years.
12 And I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities among the cities that are laid waste shall be desolate forty years: and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries.
13 Yet thus saith the Lord GOD; At the end of forty years will I gather the Egyptians from the people whither they were scattered:
14 And I will bring again the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their habitation; and they shall be there a base kingdom.
15 It shall be the basest of the kingdoms; neither shall it exalt itself any more above the nations: for I will diminish them, that they shall no more rule over the nations.
16 And it shall be no more the confidence of the house of Israel, which bringeth their iniquity to remembrance, when they shall look after them: but they shall know that I am the Lord GOD.
17 And it came to pass in the seven and twentieth year, in the first month, in the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
18 Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyrus: every head was made bald, and every shoulder was peeled: yet had he no wages, nor his army, for Tyrus, for the service that he had served against it:
19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will give the land of Egypt unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall take her multitude, and take her spoil, and take her prey; and it shall be the wages for his army.
20 I have given him the land of Egypt for his labour wherewith he served against it, because they wrought for me, saith the Lord GOD.
21 In that day will I cause the horn of the house of Israel to bud forth, and I will give thee the opening of the mouth in the midst of them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

NEW TESTAMENT PORTION

ROMANS 9:14-17
14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

2 CORINTHIANS 6:14-7:1
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
