TORAH PORTION FROM JULY 18 - 24,2010

TORAH PORTION FROM JULY 18 2010 6PM - JULY 24 6PM 2010

DEUTERONOMY 3:23 - 7:11
23 And I besought the LORD at that time, saying,
24 O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?
25 I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.
26 But the LORD was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter.
27 Get thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.
28 But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.
29 So we abode in the valley over against Bethpeor.

DEUTERONOMY 4:1-49
1 Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.
2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
3 Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of Baalpeor: for all the men that followed Baalpeor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from among you.
4 But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day.
5 Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.
6 Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
7 For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?
8 And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?
9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons;
10 Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.
11 And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.
12 And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice.
13 And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.
14 And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it.
15 Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire:
16 Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,
17 The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air,
18 The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:
19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.
20 But the LORD hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day.
21 Furthermore the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, and sware that I should not go over Jordan, and that I should not go in unto that good land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance:
22 But I must die in this land, I must not go over Jordan: but ye shall go over, and possess that good land.
23 Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee.
24 For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.
25 When thou shalt beget children, and children's children, and ye shall have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, and shall do evil in the sight of the LORD thy God, to provoke him to anger:
26 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.
27 And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the LORD shall lead you.
28 And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.
29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
30 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice;
31 (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.
32 For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it?
33 Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?
34 Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
35 Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him.
36 Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he shewed thee his great fire; and thou heardest his words out of the midst of the fire.
37 And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought thee out in his sight with his mighty power out of Egypt;
38 To drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.
39 Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.
40 Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever.
41 Then Moses severed three cities on this side Jordan toward the sunrising;
42 That the slayer might flee thither, which should kill his neighbour unawares, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live:
43 Namely, Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, of the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, of the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, of the Manassites.
44 And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel:
45 These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Moses spake unto the children of Israel, after they came forth out of Egypt,
46 On this side Jordan, in the valley over against Bethpeor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote, after they were come forth out of Egypt:
47 And they possessed his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, which were on this side Jordan toward the sunrising;
48 From Aroer, which is by the bank of the river Arnon, even unto mount Sion, which is Hermon,
49 And all the plain on this side Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the plain, under the springs of Pisgah.

DEUTERONOMY 5:1-33
1 And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.
2 The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.
3 The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.
4 The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,
5 (I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,
6 I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me.
8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,
10 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.
11 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.
13 Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:
14 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.
15 And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.
16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
17 Thou shalt not kill.
18 Neither shalt thou commit adultery.
19 Neither shalt thou steal.
20 Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.
21 Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour's.
22 These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.
23 And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;
24 And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.
25 Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.
26 For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?
27 Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.
28 And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken.
29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!
30 Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.
31 But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.
32 Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
33 Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

DEUTERONOMY 6:1-25
1 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:
2 That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
10 And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
11 And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
12 Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
13 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.
14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;
15 (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
16 Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
17 Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.
18 And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,
19 To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.
20 And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?
21 Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:
22 And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:
23 And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.
24 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.
25 And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.

DEUTERONOMY 7:1-11
1 When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
2 And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:
3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.
4 For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.
5 But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.
6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:
8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
10 And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.
11 Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.

PROPHETS PORTION

ISAIAH 40:1-26
1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD’S hand double for all her sins.
3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
9 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
12 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
13 Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him?
14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?
15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.
17 All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.
18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?
19 The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.
20 He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.
21 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
23 That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
24 Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.
25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

NEW TESTAMENT PORTION

MATTHEW 4:1-11
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

MATTHEW 22:33-40
33 And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.
34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.
35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

MARK 12:28-34
28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

LUKE 4:1-13
1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

LUKE 10:25-37
25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

ACTS 13:13-43
13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.
14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.
16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.
17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.
18 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.
19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.
20 And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.
21 And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.
22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
23 Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:
24 When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
25 And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.
26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.
27 For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.
28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.
29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.
30 But God raised him from the dead:
31 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.
32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,
33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.
34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.
35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
40 Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;
41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.
42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

ROMANS 3:27-31
27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

1 TIMOTHY 2:4-6
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

JAMES 2:14-26
14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

ABBAS WANTS BORDER FORCE IN GAZA

A message to all members of ROTH REVOLUTION-U.S. Authorities Shut Down WordPress Host With 73,000 Blogs JULY 17,10

After the U.S. Government took action against several sites connected to movie streaming recently, nerves are jangling over the possibility that this is just the beginning of a wider crackdown. Now it appears that a free blogging platform has been taken down by its hosting provider on orders from the U.S. authorities on grounds of a history of abuse. More than 73,000 blogs are out of action as a result.

Hot on the heels of recent threats from Vice President Joe Biden and Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator Victoria Espinel directed at sites offering unauthorized movies and music, last month U.S. authorities targeted several sites they claimed were connected to the streaming of infringing video material.Operation In Our Sites targeted several sites including TVShack.net, Movies-Links.TV, FilesPump.com, Now-Movies.com, PlanetMoviez.com, ThePirateCity.org, ZML.com, NinjaVideo.net and NinjaThis.net. In almost unprecedented action, the domain names of 7 sites were seized and indications are that others – The Pirate Bay and MegaUpload – narrowly avoided the same fate.Fears remain, however, that this action is only the beginning, and that more sites will be targeted as the months roll on. Indeed, TorrentFreak has already received information that other sites, so far unnamed in the media, are being monitored by the authorities on copyright grounds.

Now, according to the owner of a free WordPress platform which hosts more than 73,000blogs, his network of sites has been completely shut down on the orders of the authorities.Blogetery.com has been with host BurstNet for 7 months but on Friday July 9th the site disappeared.

REBUILT 3RD TEMPLE (THE EU DICTATORS TEMPLE)

ISAIAH 30:10-15
10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:
11 Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.
12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon:
13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.
14 And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters’ vessel that is broken in pieces; he shall not spare: so that there shall not be found in the bursting of it a sherd to take fire from the hearth, or to take water withal out of the pit.
15 For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.
16 But ye said, No; for we will flee upon horses; therefore shall ye flee: and, We will ride upon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.

REVELATION 11:1-2
1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

13 Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

ISAIAH 60:9-10
9 Surely the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath glorified thee.
10 And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister unto thee: for in my wrath I smote thee, but in my favour have I had mercy on thee.

ISAIAH 2:1-5
1 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

MARK 11:9-10,15-17
9 And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord:
10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.
15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;
16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.
17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.

THE 5770 TISHA B'AV MARCH OF THE TEMPLE MOUNT AND LAND OF ISRAEL FAITHFUL MOVEMENT

We will call to the people and to the government of Israel to immediately build the end-time third Temple. The Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement will march to the Holy Temple Mount on Tisha B'Av 5770, Tuesday, 20 July 2010, calling to the people and to the government of Israel to immediately build the end-time Holy Third Temple. This important event will take place during a very special time in the history of the people of G-d. The Holy Tanakh (the Hebrew Bible) and Jewish tradition, particularly after the destruction of the Second Temple, have indicated that three events shall happen before the coming of Messiah Ben David:

- the first event is the regathering of the Jewish people from all corners of the world back to the Promised Land of Israel;
- the second event is the re-establishment of the sovereign Kingdom and State of Israel; and
- the third event is the rebuilding of the Holy Temple of G-d on the Holy Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

The first two events have been fulfilled, and the Jewish people continue to be regathered to the Holy Land of Israel. Now is the time to bring to pass the third event, the rebuilding of the Holy Temple of G-d.The building of the Holy Temple was, is, and will be forever the most important event in the life of Israel and its kingdom. The building of the Holy Temple means to build the House of G-d as He commanded, hence He will dwell among His people Israel in the midst of their lives exactly as He declared so clearly to His people Israel since the earliest times of His relationship with them: Build Me a temple and I will dwell among you (Exodus 25:8). G-d always called Israel to rebuild His Holy Temple immediately upon their return to Zion, because Israel cannot, and should not, exist in the kingdom without the dwelling of G-d in the midst of their lives in Jerusalem. After the destruction of the First Temple, and the return of the Israelites to the land with the intention to rebuild the Holy Temple of G-d, the Israelites hesitated and G-d called them to immediately rebuild the Holy Temple when He said to them:Thus speaks the L-rd of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the L-rd's house should be built. Is it time for you, yourselves, to dwell in your well timbered houses, whilst this house lies waste? Thus says the L-rd of hosts; Consider your ways. Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, says the L-rd.(Haggai 1:2,4,7,8)

The Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement feels that these words express the same call to Israel in our generation at this special time of redemption. At this exciting time in the history of the people of G-d we can hear this strong call of G-d coming from all the mountains of Jerusalem, especially from the Holy Temple Mount. Two thousand years of destruction have been long enough and now the G-d of Israel will no longer tolerate His House in ruins with foreigners -- Arabs, the cruelest enemies of His people -- dwelling on His Holy Mountain and desecrating the holy site of His Temple.Israel can not exist even one moment without her Father and Creator in the midst of her life on Mount Moriah and Jerusalem. It is not only the building but essentially G-d Himself, His Shekina, His morals and principles of life that will be in the midst of the life of Israel and will lead her, guide her, protect her and manage her life. The Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement will march on Tisha B'Av this year to the Holy Temple Mount with a resounding call to Israel: Build the House of G-d immediately! Only the dwelling of G-d in the midst of Israel on the Holy Temple Mount, and in the end-time Holy Temple of G-d in the midst of the lives of all the nations will bring peace to Israel and also to the entire world. The Temple Mount Faithful Movement will call to Israel on Tisha B'Av 5770 and to its government to immediately bring to pass the end-time vision of G-d given through His prophets Isaiah and Micah:And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the L-rd's house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all the nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the L-rd, to the house of the G-d of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth Torah, and the word of the L-rd from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among the nations, and shall decide among many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation; neither shall they learn war any more. And they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid; for the mouth of the L-rd of hosts has spoken it.(Isaiah 2:2-4, Micah 4:1-4)

We shall gather on Tisha B'Av in the front of the western gate of the Holy Temple Mount at 11:00 am. At this place the chairman of the Temple Mount Faithful Movement, Gershon Salomon, will call to the people and to the government of Israel to immediately rebuild the Holy Temple and to bring to pass this holy vision as G-d is expecting of them with no delay. After this we shall pray the Book of Lamentations and march to the Holy Temple Mount. With prayer to the G-d of Israel to encourage Israel and its leadership to immediately rebuild His Holy Temple, which will change the face and lives of all mankind and will provide all humanity with the Words, morals and principles of the Almighty G-d of Israel. This will be a day of fasting so that every point of our spirits and energy will be directed to G-d and His Shekina that dwells on the most holy place in the world, the Holy Temple Mount.

Everyone is called forth to participate in this event. Let us together show G-d that we are so eager and we desire, like Him, to build His Holy House and to see G-d and His Word dwelling in the midst of our lives during our lifetime. The Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement will soon begin to prepare marble stones for the Holy Third Temple. We already have two cornerstones but we feel that we should continue to show everyone that our call is not mere words but also tangible action. Time is short and we want to be ready. Everyone is called to help us financially with this project, it needs abundant funding. At the same time everyone can have the opportunity and the special privilege to take part in this holy work and the rebuilding of Holy Third Temple.

In G-d we trust!!

The Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement wants to again thank all of you who stand with the Faithful Movement both spiritually and practically with such great faithfulness and love. At this special time the Faithful Movement is fulfilling an important part and role, which is in the midst of all these end-time events that are increasingly focused on the Temple Mount and Jerusalem. From this most holy place starts all the godly end-time events, and here they will soon be completed, when G-d will dwell in His rebuilt Temple among His people Israel and among all humanity. For this and for making Israel again a biblical nation with a biblical mission, the Faithful Movement is dedicated.Any contribution is urgently needed and will help us complete this holy work and, hand-and-hand with your gracious participation, will be accepted with deepest appreciation. 16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.

PA Wants Foreign Troops Guarding Border
Reported:22:50 PM - Jul/17/10

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said in an interview with a Jordanian newspaper published on Saturday that Israel must agree to the idea of a third party guarding the borders of a future PA state before direct peace negotiations can begin.

Abbas says Israel must accept foreign border force By MOHAMMED DARAGHMEH, Associated Press Writer – Sat Jul 17, 2:19 pm ET

RAMALLAH, West Bank – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said he'll resume direct peace talks if Israel accepts its 1967 frontier as a baseline for the borders of a Palestinian state and agrees to the deployment of an international force to guard them.Abbas is under growing pressure from the United States to resume negotiations, and met Saturday with President Barack Obama's Mideast envoy, George Mitchell.Abbas' latest comments, published Saturday in the Jordanian newspaper Al-Ghad, hinted at some flexibility in his position. The Palestinian leader did not mention a comprehensive Israeli settlement freeze as a condition for negotiations — something he has underlined as crucial in the past. However, it seemed unlikely Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would meet Abbas' demands. Netanyahu has refused to be pinned down on a framework for negotiations, insisting on talks without conditions.

The Palestinians are wary of entering talks with the hardline Netanyahu, after 17 years of intermittent talks with a succession of Israeli leaders failed to bring them any closer to statehood. The Palestinians want to establish their state in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem, territories Israel captured in the 1967 Mideast War. Netanyahu has not said how much occupied territory he is willing to relinquish for a Palestinian state. However, he has said he will not give up control of Jerusalem and has insisted on a continued Israeli troop presence on the eastern border of a future Palestinian state.Negotiations between Abbas and Netanyahu's predecessor, Ehud Olmert, broke off in December 2008, on the eve of Israel's military offensive in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.Abbas has said that in these negotiations, he and Olmert reached an agreement in principle on security arrangements, including the deployment of an international force in the future Palestinian state. The two leaders also discussed a possible land swap that would allow Israel to annex some Jewish settlements on war-captured lands, and compensate the Palestinians with an equal amount of Israeli land. The two sides disagreed on the amount of land to be swapped. We have put forward to the Israelis our position on different final status issues, and especially on borders and security, Abbas told the Jordanian newspaper. We have said that the borders need to be on a 1967 basis, with agreement on land swaps equal in value and size, and we gave our vision regarding security, which was agreed on previously, in Olmert's days.He said the Israelis need to recognize these propositions as acceptable, in principle. If they agree, we will consider that progress ... and this would prompt us to go to direct negotiations, he said.Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev blamed the Palestinians for the deadlock. We definitely don't want another year and a half without negotiations, he said.It was not clear whether Mitchell made any headway in his meeting with Abbas on Saturday.

Mitchell would only say he was heartened by the talks he has held in the region in recent days and that he would return soon. On Friday, he met with Netanyahu. The U.S. envoy has been shuttling between Abbas and Netanyahu in recent weeks to try to close some of the gaps between the sides.Abbas, Netanyahu and Mitchell are scheduled to meet separately with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo on Sunday to sound out the prospects for a return to direct negotiations.Abbas aide Yasser Abed Rabbo said a decision on direct talks is not expected before early next month. He said the Palestine Liberation Organization's top decision-making body and Arab foreign ministers would have to weigh in on the issue, and that Abbas is also waiting for clarifications from the U.S. The Palestinian leader will have to make a decision by September at the latest. The four months set aside for Mitchell's shuttle diplomacy and Israel's partial curb on settlement construction will have come to an end by then. Also Saturday, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton called for Gaza's borders to be opened beyond Israel's limited easing of its 3-year-old blockade of the Palestinian territory. There needs to be an opening of the crossings to allow the flow of people and goods in both directions, she told a news conference in the West Bank. She was to tour Gaza on Sunday.Earlier this month, Israel said it would allow the import of most consumer goods to Gaza, but continues to ban exports and — along with Egypt — keeps most of Gaza's 1.5 million people confined to the Hamas-ruled territory.Associated Press writers Diaa Hadid and Ian Deitch in Jerusalem and Karin Laub in Ramallah contributed to this report.

Settlement issue holding up Middle East talks by Nasser Abu Bakr – Sat Jul 17, 11:21 am ET

RAMALLAH, Palestinian Territories (AFP) – The Palestinian leadership said Saturday it wants clarity regarding the US position on Israeli settlements and Jerusalem before moving to direct peace talks.Until now there is no clarity in the (US) position on a number of issues, especially those related to moving into final status talks, senior Palestinian official Yasser Abed Rabbo told reporters in the West Bank.

He spoke after a three-hour meeting between visiting US Middle East envoy George Mitchell and Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas, part of a sixth round of indirect peace talks with Israel launched in May.The three-hour meeting between Abbas and Mitchell was important but there are several issues, most important among them the settlements and the situation in Jerusalem, that need more clarity, Abed Rabbo said.

The Palestinians have long demanded a complete freeze of Israeli settlements ahead of face-to-face peace talks and accused Israel of undermining the process by approving new settler homes in mostly Arab east Jerusalem, which the Palestinians view as their capital.Israel occupied the eastern half of the city in the 1967 Six Day War along with the West Bank and annexed it in a move not recognised by the international community, declaring the entire city its eternal, undivided capital. As with previous visits, Mitchell declined to discuss the details of the talks, saying only that it was a very productive meeting and that US President Barack Obama remained committed to a two-state peace deal.Earlier this month, during a visit to Washington by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Obama said he hoped to see direct talks begin before a partial moratorium on West Bank settlements ends in September. The Palestinians reluctantly agreed to launch indirect peace talks in May after suspending the last round of direct negotiations during the 2008-2009 Gaza war.

In recent weeks Abbas had largely backed away from conditioning direct talks on a full settlement freeze, instead insisting on progress on the issue of borders and security. In an interview published Saturday, he said he would meet Netanyahu if Israel agreed in principle to a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with equal land swaps and the presence of an international security force.Israel must accept that the Palestinian territory in question be that of the 1967 borders and with the presence of a third party, he told Jordan's Al-Ghad newspaper, referring to the West Bank, east Jerusalem and Gaza. This will push us to embark on direct negotiations, Abbas said. The Palestinians say Netanyahu has yet to respond to the proposal, and the prime minister has previously said Israeli forces would remain stationed in the strategic Jordan Valley after a peace deal to prevent weapons smuggling. In an indication of the domestic pressure Abbas faces, his own party on Thursday told him not enter into direct talks with Netanyahu's right-wing government without showing progress in the proximity negotiations.A decision this week to approve the construction of more than 30 new homes in a major east Jerusalem settlement, as well as the demolition of six Palestinian homes built without city permits, could further constrain Abbas.Netanyahu has repeatedly called for direct talks, but few Palestinians believe his right-wing government is willing to withdraw from the occupied territories. They point out that in nearly 17 years of on-again off-again peace talks the number of Jewish settlers in the West Bank has nearly tripled to 300,000, with another 200,000 now living in occupied and annexed east Jerusalem.

Mitchell was to meet with Netanyahu for a second time on Sunday. The two met on Friday with neither side discussing the details of the talks.

PA Says No to Obama Envoy on Direct Talks
by Maayana Miskin JULY 17,10

Senior Fatah member Mohammed Dahlan announced Saturday that the Palestinian Authority will not hold direct negotiations with Israel at this time. The announcement followed a meeting between PA leaders and United States envoy George Mitchell.Mitchell termed his meeting with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas constructive and fruitful. He told reporters that the latest round of meetings with Israeli and PA leaders began to achieve President Obama's vision for comprehensive peace.US President Barack Obama spoke to Abbas by phone last week. Senior PA official Saeb Erekat later confirmed that the president urged Abbas to agree to direct talks.

Dahlan said the call for direct talks had been rejected because Mitchell did not offer President Abbas and the Palestinian leadership any new Israeli responses regarding security and borders. The PA has demanded that Israel agree to the 1949 armistice line as the basis for determining the border of a PA state before moving to direct negotiations.Abbas has also insisted that when it comes to security, talks begin at the point where negotiations between the PA and the Olmert administration left off in 2008.(IsraelNationalNews.com)

No to a Holyland State
by Maayana Miskin JULY 17,10

One thousand activists from across the political spectrum gathered in Jerusalem Thursday, at the foot of the Holyland project, to protest proposed changes to the Planning and Construction Law. Protesters demonstrated under the slogan, No to a Holyland State. The reference to the corruption-rife Holyland project emphasized protesters' concerns that proposed changes to the law would lead to more corruption in construction.Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has touted the proposed reform as a way to simplify the process of getting building authorized. The building licensing process is long and complex, and often creates significant delays.Opponents say they welcome the eased licensing process, but are concerned over changes to the planning process, which they say would severely limit public involvement in city planning and open the door to corruption among city officials, and to incompetence that could lead to the destruction of open spaces nationwide.Among those present at Thursday's rally were MKs Dov Henin (Hadash), Aryeh Eldad (National Union – Ichud Leumi), Nitzan Horowitz (Meretz), and Eitan Cabel (Labor). Also at the rally were Eliad Shraga of the Movement for Quality Government, an anti-corruption watchdog, and young activists from the National Union, the Jewish Home, Labor, Meretz, and Kadima parties.

The rally was organized by the Society for Protection of Nature in Israel. It followed smaller rallies held over the course of the past month in cities ranging from the Golan to the South, including Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa, Modiin and Be'er Sheva. Earlier in the week 44 MKs from nine Knesset factions, from United Torah Judaism and the National Union to Meretz and Balad, signed a petition calling to separate the proposed new law into two parts: a reform in licensing, which enjoys strong support, and the controversial reform in city planning. The government rejected the call to divide the bill.(IsraelNationalNews.com)

Gaza Arabs Attempt to Infiltrate Negev
Reported:01:10 AM - Jul/18/10

Two Arabs from the Hamas-controlled Gaza region reportedly attempted to infiltrate the western Negev Saturday night before Israeli soldiers opened fire on them. IDF sources said that they could not confirm a hit and that the Arabs escaped back into Gaza.

Top EU diplomat calls for further lifting of Gaza siege
Sat Jul 17, 2:59 pm ET

RAMALLAH, Palestinian Territories (AFP) – The European Union's top diplomat on Saturday called for the further easing of Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip on the eve of a visit to the Hamas-ruled territory. We've made it clear that we want to see the potential for the people of Gaza to live an ordinary life,EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton told reporters in the West Bank town of Ramallah. There needs to be an opening of the crossings for both people and goods to flow in both directions, she said at a joint news conference with Palestinian prime minister Salam Fayyad, ahead of her Gaza visit.Israel has taken steps to ease its four-year blockade of the territory in the wake of a deadly May 31 raid on a Gaza-bound aid fleet and now says it allows the import of everything except weapons and dual-use items. It has also begun allowing the import of building materials such as wood and cement for projects under international supervision. But the limited opening has drawn criticism from the Palestinians and rights groups because it does not include an easing of the movement of people or allow for exports. What we all are looking for is to end the suffering of our people in Gaza by lifting the siege and... by having a policy of openness that is clearly defined, Fayyad told reporters. What we have today is 75 percent less (volume of traffic) that what we had in the first half of 2007... That's not what we are looking for,he said. The economy of Gaza cannot be sustained only by importation, there needs to be exports.

Israel has said its naval blockade is necessary to prevent the Islamist Hamas movement ruling Gaza -- which is pledged to its destruction -- from shipping in military-grade weapons and longe-range rockets.Ashton said she was open to sending European Union monitors to the crossings but that they would have to work alongside the Western-backed Palestinian Authority, which Hamas ousted in June 2007.We are willing to engage in work at the crossings if there is a clear role for the European Union to play, and of course working with the Palestinian Authority, she said.At the moment that is not something that is on the table.Ashton was to head to Gaza for a few hours on Sunday before returning to Israel to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other top officials.

US says Israel rocket shield will work By ANNE FLAHERTY, Associated Press Writer – Fri Jul 16, 1:42 pm ET

WASHINGTON – A U.S.-backed rocket shield is on track to protect Israeli towns against rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip, a senior State Department official said Friday. The system, dubbed the Iron Dome, is being touted by the Obama administration as the latest example of expanded military cooperation between the U.S. and Israel. President Barack Obama has asked Congress for $205 million to accelerate development of the system, about half its total cost. The election-year message of increased U.S. aid to Israel seems aimed at assauging the concerns of many Jewish voters that Obama remains committed to Israel's security, despite diplomatic tensions earlier this year.As surely as the bond between the United States and Israel is unbreakable, our commitment to Israel's qualitative military edge has never been greater, said Andrew Shapiro, an assistant secretary of State for political and military affairs.Israel has had no system in place to guard against the thousands of rockets that militants have rained down on its southern and northern borders over the years, fired by Hamas militants in Gaza and Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon.Millions of Israeli civilians are within rocket range, and the military has stepped up its quest for a solution after the country's 2006 war against Hezbollah, when 4,000 short-range Katyusha rockets bombarded northern Israel.Iron Dome uses cameras and radar to track incoming rockets and shoot them down within seconds of their launch.Jonathan Peled, a spokesman for the Israeli embassy, said he could not provide details on the latest round of tests, but confirmed that a test this week was successful.Neither country has said when the system will be operational.Israel receives about $3 billion a year in U.S. military aid, including money for training. Last fall, more than 1,000 U.S. troops participated in a massive U.S.-Israeli missile defense exercise codenamed Juniper Cobra.

IMF and EU suspend talks with Hungary By Krisztina Than and Marton Dunai - JULY 17,10

BUDAPEST (Reuters) – The IMF and EU suspended on Saturday a review of Hungary's funding program, set up in 2008 to save the country from financial meltdown, saying it must take tough action to meet targets for cutting its budget deficit.Suspension of talks means Hungary will not have access to remaining funds in its $25.1 billion loan package, created by the International Monetary Fund and European Union and which it now uses as financial safety net, until the review is concluded.

Negotiations with the lenders had been expected to finish early next week. Analysts said the forint currency could fall sharply when financial markets reopen Monday due to uncertainty over the international safety net for Hungary, which has financed itself from the markets since last year.In an environment of heightened market scrutiny of government deficits and debt levels, the fiscal deficit targets previously announced -- 3.8 percent of GDP in 2010 and below 3 percent of GDP in 2011 -- remain an appropriate anchor for the necessary consolidation process and debt sustainability, and should be adhered to, but additional measures will need to be taken to achieve these objectives, the IMF said.Sustainable consolidation will require durable, non-distortive measures, which the authorities need more time to develop,it said in a statement.

HITTING WHERE IT HURTS MOST

Hungary's new center-right government, which swept to power in April elections, has said it wanted to extend its current financing deal with lenders until the end of 2010 and seek a precautionary deal for 2011 and 2012.Economy Minister Gyorgy Matolcsy made clear the government was keen to resume negotiations. The government will of course continue talks with international organizations including the IMF and the EU,he said in a statement published by the national news agency MTI Saturday.

Christoph Rosenberg, who led the IMF delegation to Hungary, signaled that the Fund wanted more on next year's budget. By definition when we come next time -- unless we come next week -- the government will have made more progress on the 2011 budget and that will be a very important budget, he told Reuters. In an interview, he also said the IMF had not discussed the possibility of a new financing deal for 2011 and 2012.
We are aware of what has been said in public but in our meetings we didn't really get to that point, because we obviously needed to first resolve the policy issues and those have not been resolved,he said. The EU issued a separate statement saying the conclusion of the review had to be postponed and further talks should be held at a later stage.Hungary has returned to a positive economic growth path and now has one of the lowest budget deficits in the EU. I welcome the authorities' commitment to the 2010 deficit target, said Olli Rehn, Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs. However, the correction of the excessive deficit by next year will require tough decisions, notably on spending.Hungary needs the IMF/EU safety net to keep the trust of investors from whom it borrows. But the country remains vulnerable due to its high public debt, which is equal to 80 percent of GDP, and its strong reliance on foreign financing. If we do not have the safety net of international lenders, that hits us where it hurts most, said MKB Bank analyst Zsolt Kondrat. One would definitely expect a weakening forint Monday. A 10-forint weakening (versus the euro) is quite plausible, and nobody knows how nervous the market's reaction might be.The forint traded at around 282 to the euro Friday. Neighboring Romania had to take tough steps last month to secure the release of its IMF aid and reassure investors.

BP prolongs tests on oil well structure as cap holds by Allen Johnson - JULY 17,10

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (AFP) – Energy giant BP extended testing on its Gulf of Mexico oil well to ensure that cracks are not emerging in the seabed after a cap stopped the months-long flow, officials said Saturday. The tests, which involve multiple pressure readings on the wellbore that runs to the oil reservoir below the seafloor, have provided valuable information and will continue into Sunday, Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen said.Once the analysis is complete, BP will open the new cap and resume siphoning off the oil to two production vessels on the sea surface, Allen said. The tests began Thursday when valves on the cap were sealed, choking off the flow of crude into the Gulf for the first time since the spill began in April.

Pressure in the capping stack continues to increase very slowly and we want to continue to monitor this progress, Allen said. When this test is eventually stopped, we will immediately return to containment, using the new, tighter sealing cap with both the Helix Producer and the Q4000, Allen said in a statement.Additional collection capacity of up to 80,000 barrels per day is also being added in the coming days.BP's return to the containment system was expected to see oil flowing back into the sea once again, at least temporarily, as the pressure in the well is lowered and the new system set up.Allen added that progress continues on the two relief wells, expected to be complete in mid-August, which he recalled are the ultimate step in stopping the BP oil leak for good.BP's vice president said earlier Saturday that the cap placed over the gushing wellhead was still holding back spilling crude, but the results of tests on the well's structure require more analysis. We're feeling more confident that we have integrity, BP senior vice president Kent Wells told reporters. At this point there's not evidence that we don't have integrity.Wells said indications from the critical tests were that the wellbore was withstanding the pressure created by sealing the leak from above, but the readings were not as clear-cut as engineers would like.Engineers had hoped to register readings of up to 8,000-9,000 pounds per square inch (psi), a high reading that would mean the well is still intact and there is no seepage. But the reading Saturday, around 6,745 psi, was inconclusive.

We could have integrity or we could not have integrity between the 6,000 or 7,500 psi range, Wells said, though he sounded a note of cautious optimism. The fact that the pressure continues to rise is giving us more and more confidence as we are getting through the test, he said. The longer the test goes, the more confidence we have in it,he said. A video feed that has for weeks shown clouds of oil gushing forth at an estimated rate of 35,000-60,000 barrels a day, showed nothing but a white cap and underwater robots Saturday. The halt, however temporary, of the leak provided a glimmer of hope that the worst oil spill in US history could soon be over, allowing efforts to turn to the grim job of cleaning up hundreds of miles (kilometers) of contaminated shoreline. Oil has washed up on the coasts of all five Gulf states -- Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida -- since the spill began April 22, two days after an explosion aboard the BP-leased Deepwater Horizon platform, which killed 11 workers and sank the rig.The International Energy Agency has calculated there are between 2.3 million and 4.5 million barrels of crude sloshing around in the sea.A giant skimming vessel, the A Whale, which officials had hoped would scoop up huge quantities of spilled crude was only able to collect negligible amounts during testing and will not be deployed, officials said Friday.

Gulf residents, who are heavily dependent on the fishing and tourism industries have seen their livelihoods ravaged, and the complicated and expensive clean-up process is likely to take years. BP has so far spent at least 3.5 billion dollars dealing with the spill, and compensation claims could eventually cost 10 times that amount, with BP agreeing to set up a 20-billion-dollar fund to pay damages.

Muslim attack on Christian village in Nigeria kills 8: army
Sat Jul 17, 1:20 pm ET

JOS, Nigeria (AFP) – Muslims attacked a Christian village in central Nigeria on Saturday, killing eight people with machetes and burning seven houses and a church in fresh religious violence, an army spokesman said. The attack followed clashes in eastern Nigeria earlier in the week that also killed eight and left six mosques and a church burnt. It's true eight people were killed, Lieutenant Colonel Kingsley Umoh said.An AFP correspondent saw the bodies, as well as the burnt houses and church in Mazzah village, near the city of Jos, where deadly religious clashes have occurred a number of times in recent months.Umoh said Fulani Muslims entered Mazzah between 1:30 am and 5:00 am, shooting sporadically in the air to lure sleeping residents outside their homes before they were killed.Seven people were killed instantly with machetes while three others were seriously injured. One of them died on the way to the hospital, he said.He said troop reinforcements had been deployed to Mazzah, some 14 kilometres (nine miles) from Jos, the capital of central Plateau State, to prevent the violence from escalating.

The village was calm on Saturday afternoon, but some residents were seen leaving for Jos out of fears for their safety.A senior state official, Gyang Pwajok, described the overnight attack on the mainly Christian village as an act of terrorism.Plateau State lies in the so-called middle belt between the predominantly Muslim north and the mainly Christian south.Jos has long been the centre of ethnic and religious violence in a country whose 150 million population is divided almost equally between Christians and Muslims. In March, Muslim herdsmen from the Fulani and Hausa ethnic groups launched attacks on five Christian Berom villages near the city, killing more than 500 people, state officials say.Local rights groups say 1,500 people have died in inter-communal violence in the Jos region since the start of this year alone. The clashes earlier this week occurred in Wukari, a town in the remote eastern Taraba state, over the building of a mosque.A Christian mob opposed to the construction of the mosque razed it, police said. Muslims responded by attacking a nearby church, leading to the eruption of violent clashes between the two sides. Some observers say the violence results from religion being exploited in the struggle for local power. There have been warnings that such clashes could increase in the run up to elections expected early next year. The recent violence also comes just ahead of the one-year anniversary of the start of an uprising by an Islamist sect in the northern city of Maiduguri on July 26.Nigerian police and troops crushed the uprising by the Boko Haram sect -- which has also been called the Nigerian Taliban -- after four days of street battles that left more than 800 dead, mostly sect members.

Uzbek women accuse state of mass sterilizations By MANSUR MIROVALEV, Associated Press Writer - JULY 17,10

GULISTAN, Uzbekistan – Saodat Rakhimbayeva says she wishes she had died with her newborn baby. The 24-year-old housewife had a cesarean section in March and gave birth to Ibrohim, a premature boy who died three days later. Then came a further devastating blow: She learned that the surgeon had removed part of her uterus during the operation, making her sterile. The doctor told her the hysterectomy was necessary to remove a potentially cancerous cyst, while she believes he sterilized her as part of a state campaign to reduce birthrates. He never asked for my approval, never ran any checks, just mutilated me as if I were a mute animal, the pale and fragile Rakhimbayeva said through tears while sitting at a fly-infested cafe in this central Uzbek city. I should have just died with Ibrohim.According to rights groups, victims and health officials, Rakhimbayeva is one of hundreds of Uzbek women who have been surgically sterilized without their knowledge or consent in a program designed to prevent overpopulation from fueling unrest.Human rights advocates and doctors say autocratic President Islam Karimov this year ramped up a sterilization campaign he initiated in the late 1990s. In a decree issued in February, the Health Ministry ordered all medical facilities to strengthen control over the medical examination of women of childbearing age.The decree also said that surgical contraception should be provided free of charge to women who volunteer for the procedure. It did not specifically mandate sterilizations, but critics allege that doctors have come under direct pressure from the government to perform them: The order comes from the very top, said Khaitboy Yakubov, head of the Najot human rights group in Uzbekistan.Uzbek authorities ignored numerous requests by The Associated Press to comment on the issue. Most Western media organizations have been driven from the country, and government officials face serious reprisals for contacts with foreign journalists. However, the AP was able to interview several doctors, sterilized women and a former health official, some on condition of anonymity.

This Central Asian nation of 27 million is the size of California or Iraq, and population density in areas such as the fertile Ferghana Valley is among the world's highest.Rights groups say the government is dealing with poverty, unemployment and severe economic and environmental problems that have triggered an exodus of Uzbek labor migrants to Russia and other countries.Heightening the government's fears is the specter of legions of jobless men in predominantly Muslim Uzbekistan succumbing to the lure of Islamic radical groups with ties to Afghan Taliban and al-Qaida.

Uzbekistan is not alone in coming under allegations of using sterilizations to fight population growth: Authorities in China's Guangdong Province were accused by Amnesty International in April of carrying out coerced sterilizations to meet family planning goals. But no other country is known to use that method as a government policy.Uzbekistan once had one of the Soviet Union's highest birthrates, four to five children per woman, and Communist authorities even handed out medals to "heroine" mothers of six or more. Young army conscripts from Uzbekistan and the four other Central Asian republics made up for a declining ethnic Russian population.

Now, as authorities try to unravel that legacy, the birthrate has dropped to about 2.3 children per woman — still higher than the rate of 2.1 that demographers consider sufficient to replenish a falling population. The sterilization campaign involves thousands of government-employed medical doctors and nurses who urge women of childbearing age, especially those with two or more children, to have hysterectomies or fallopian tube ligations, said Sukhrobjon Ismoilov of the Expert Working Group, an independent think tank based in the capital, Tashkent. The surgeon in Rakhimbayeva's case, a burly man in his 40s named Kakhramon Fuzailov, refused to comment on her claims and threatened to turn an AP reporter over to the police for asking inappropriate questions. In 2007, the U.N. Committee Against Torture reported a large number of cases of forced sterilization and removal of reproductive organs in Uzbek women, often after cesarean sections. Some women were abandoned by their husbands as a result, it said. After the 1991 Soviet collapse, Karimov, a former Communist functionary, remained at the helm and retained many Soviet features, such as strict government control of public health. Government-paid doctors and nurses are assigned to each district or village.

Family planning is far different from Western norms. Instead of focusing on raising awareness of widely available condoms or birth-control pills, the Health Ministry has chosen to promote uteral resections nationwide as the most reliable method of contraception. Some women do volunteer. Khalida Alimova, 31, a plump, vivacious sales manager from Tashkent, agreed to a resection in March, almost a year after her third child was born. She said her husband, Alisher Alimov, 32, an occasional cab driver who spends days playing backgammon with his friends, refused to use condoms or allow her to take birth-control pills. Now I feel relieved, Alimova said over a cup of green tea in the kitchen of their shabbily furnished Tashkent apartment. She added, though, that she never told her husband about the operation. Many other women, especially from poor rural areas, say they face coercion from health workers or even potential employers to agree to sterilization.A 31-year-old mother of two from the eastern Uzbek city of Ferghana said the director of a kindergarten where she sought a job told her to show a certificate confirming she had been sterilized.

After consulting her disabled husband, who receives a government pension of $40 a month, she said she agreed to the procedure, produced the certificate and got the job. We just had no choice, the woman, who gave only her first name Matluba, said by telephone from the eastern city of Ferghana. She refused to provide her last name or identify the kindergarten for fear of being fired.Several health workers, who spoke on condition of anonymity also because they feared dismissal or persecution, said the authorities are especially eager to sterilize women with HIV, tuberculosis or a drug addiction. Instruments often are not sterilized properly and can infect other women, they said.Inexperienced medical workers can also cause serious health complications. Any negligence can do a lot of damage, said Shakhlo Tursunova, a gynecologist from Tashkent. Health workers involved in the campaign are threatened with salary cuts, demotion or dismissal if they do not persuade at least two women a month to be sterilized, a former high-ranking Health Ministry official told the AP on condition of anonymity.Veronika Tretyakova, a 32-year-old doctor from Tashkent, said she came under pressure from health workers to be sterilized. The nurse said, They would hang me if I let you have another child, Tretyakova said.I told her to think about her soul.Tradition plays a strong role in this male-dominated society, where a large family is seen as a blessing from God, and women are often blamed for childless marriages. After checking out of the maternity hospital in Gulistan where she lost her son, Rakhimbayeva said she shared her anguish with her husband, Ulmas, a 29-year-old bus driver who refused to be interviewed for this story. Their marriage was arranged by their parents in 2008. Instead of consoling her, she said, he told her to move back to her parents' house and wait for divorce papers as he did not want to live with a barren wife.He never even questioned why the doctors maimed me, just blamed everything on me, Rakhimbayeva said wringing her hands. Now I have no hope of having children, no job, no future.

Canada to buy 65 F-35 jet fighters in C$9 bln deal
By David Ljunggren – Fri Jul 16, 1:24 pm ET

OTTAWA (Reuters) – Canada will buy 65 new fighter jets from Lockheed Martin Corp for C$9 billion ($8.6 billion), one of the biggest arms deals in the nation's history, Defense Minister Peter MacKay said on Friday. The first of the new generation Joint Strike Fighters will be delivered in 2016. The F-35s are designed to replace Canada's CF-18s, which are scheduled to reach the end of their working lives in about 2020.MacKay brushed off criticism from opposition legislators who say the planes are too expensive and who question why Lockheed Martin received a sole-source contract. This is the best aircraft we can provide our men and women in uniform ... This is one of the largest defense procurement projects in Canadian history, MacKay told a news conference. The C$9 billion also covers weapons, training and equipment. MacKay said media reports of a separate C$7 billion 20-year maintenance deal were wrong and said an agreement would be concluded once the jets started going into production. The Joint Strike Fighter program is being funded by the United States, Canada, Turkey, Britain, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Australia and the Netherlands. Canada, which was involved from the start, says it has already spent C$168 million.

The JSF is set to be the world's costliest arms acquisition program. The United States alone is scheduled to buy 2,443 of the planes for more than $300 billion.
Industry Minister Tony Clement said Canadian companies would be able to bid for business for all the planes, not just the ones Ottawa will buy.The opposition Liberal Party promises to freeze the deal if it takes power. However polls show it trails the ruling Conservatives and would have little chance of winning an election now.MacKay dismissed the criticism, saying Lockheed Martin had won an open competition in 2001 to supply the JSF -- a time when Canada's previous Liberal government was in power and already helping to fund the project.I am questioning the hypocrisy which seems to soar higher than this aircraft in now criticizing purchasing the very plane that the previous government signaled ... very early on, that they were going to do, he said. But a former top Canadian defense official involved in the decision to help fund the JSF said Ottawa's development role did not automatically mean Canada had to buy the plane. If you sole-source, everybody loses. The taxpayer loses ... you lose a lot of leverage, up to 20 percent, Alan Williams told Reuters, saying the Conservative government had in recent years effectively sole-sourced almost C$40 billion worth of defense contracts. We're supposed to buy a product that best meets the military's needs. How do you know that without doing a rigorous comparison? ... Just because we took part in a program does not mean that it's the best one for us,he said.(Reporting by David Ljunggren; editing by Rob Wilson)

Seven missing as weakened typhoon lands in Vietnam
By Ho Binh Minh – Sat Jul 17, 1:44 pm ET

HANOI (Reuters) – At least seven people were missing as typhoon Conson weakened to a tropical storm and made landfall in northern Vietnam on Saturday, after crossing the Chinese island of Hainan where two people died. The typhoon, which killed at least 39 in the Philippines earlier this week, was downgraded as it moved past Hainan, the Tropical Storm Risk site (www.tropicalstormrisk.com) said.Six Vietnamese fishermen were missing near the Paracels archipelago in the South China Sea after their boat sank on Friday while seeking shelter, state-run Vietnam Television said, adding that the navy had sent rescue ships to the area.A female tourist was also swept away by sea waves while swimming in the northern province of Thanh Hoa, the Hanoi People's Committee-run Hanoi Moi daily reported. The city of Thanh Hoa, along with the port of Hai Phong and the neighboring Thai Binh province, lay in the path of the storm's center, state forecasters said. The army has helped to evacuate about 150,000 people in coastal provinces while more residents will be taken from dangerous areas as the storm weakens into a low pressure system and moves further northwest.Earlier Vietnamese riot police dispersed groups of tourists and local people who had gathered on the beaches of Haiphong to watch the high waves, state-run Voice of Vietnam reported. On Hainan, power supplies were partially cut in Sanya, a resort city on the island's southern tip, after the first typhoon to hit China this season arrived on Friday evening.

A security guard was buried when a billboard toppled over near Sanya, and a motorcyclist died when he was clipped by another falling billboard, China's Xinhua news agency said. The Vietnamese government warned that flash floods and landslides could strike in mountainous areas after a prolonged dry period. Vietnam Airlines said it had canceled 10 flights in and out of Hai Phong and Hanoi on Saturday.
Typhoons and tropical storms regularly hit the Philippines, China, Taiwan and Japan in the second half of the year, gathering strength from the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean or South China Sea before normally weakening over land.(Additional reporting by Lucy Hornby in Beijing; editing by David Stamp)

Storm hits sports festival stadium, injures 5
Sat Jul 17, 5:10 pm ET

MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico – A waterspout slammed into the stadium where thousands of people were expected to gather for the inauguration of the Central American and Caribbean Games on Saturday, injuring at least five people and forcing officials to delay the opening ceremony. The storm ripped down scaffolding workers were using to add final touches to the Jose Figueroa Olympic Stadium, toppling the metal onto cars below. At the moment we have information that people are injured and the meteorologists have told us they expect two similar episodes during the afternoon, police Col. Francisco Carbo told The Associated Press. One of the victims had three of his fingers amputated and a 3-year-old received minor injuries on one hand.

Officials evacuated people who had already arrived at the stadium, which is close to the shore on Puerto Rico's western coast.Felipe Perez, president of the games organizing comittee, said he was taken aback by the storm's strength. The wind was like something out of a movie, he said.Competition in the games is scheduled to start Sunday and run through Aug. 2.Thirty-one countries are participating in the games, which include diving, swimming, track and field, fencing and boxing. The soccer matches, however, will be played in Venezuela on dates that have not yet been announced.

At least 67 dead as Typhoon Conson weakens in China
Sat Jul 17, 11:26 am ET

BEIJING (AFP) – Typhoon Conson weakened to a tropical storm and headed for Vietnam Saturday after brushing the southeastern Chinese island of Hainan and pounding the Philippines, leaving at least 67 dead.Philippine authorities warned the toll could rise further with dozens missing days after Conson struck the main Luzon island, including the capital Manila, on Tuesday with a ferocity that caught weather forecasters by surprise. The typhoon destroyed thousands of homes, sank or damaged dozens of boats, uprooted trees that crushed people to death and snapped power lines.

In China the storm killed at least two people, tore down trees and ripped up electricity pylons when it hit Hainan Friday evening, local officials said.

Authorities on the popular tourist island evacuated around 40,000 people from the most vulnerable areas before the storm barrelled inland. Two men, a security guard and a motorcyclist, died after being struck by advertising hoardings unhinged by strong winds, an official from the local typhoon warning centre said.Television images showed driving rain and powerful winds rocking the island, while residents also reported power outages.Several Vietnamese ships in the South China Sea had been wrecked, the state Xinhua news agency said. The typhoon was later downgraded to a tropical storm as it headed towards northern Vietnam, according to China's national weather centre. The China Meteorological Administration said the winds had slowed to around 20 kilometres (12 miles) per hour, but that coastal areas of eastern China could still expect heavy rain over the next 24 hours.Provincial flood control authorities have warned local governments to be vigilant for floods, landslides and dike bursts, Xinhua said. China has been hit by deadly landslides and rainstorms in recent weeks.Earlier Conson became the first major storm to hit the Philippines this year and the archipelago nation bore the brunt of its fury, with the death toll there rising sharply to 65 Saturday.Philippine air force helicopters and navy aircraft were still combing the seas southeast of Manila for around 43 missing fishermen and other sailors.Three fishermen were plucked by passing colleagues from waters off the Bicol region, after Conson destroyed their boat on Tuesday, an army statement quoted survivor Victor Bordeos as saying. Our boat capsized and (was) torn in half during the height of the storm,Bordeos said. The government's National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) on Saturday raised the death toll to 65 from 39 as the coast guard and other rescuers found more bodies at sea at the mouth of Manila Bay and off Bicol.

It put the number of overall missing at 87.By Saturday morning the coast guard said it was still struggling to contain two oil spills caused by wrecked watercraft, one of which severed an underwater oil pipe of a local refiner at the mouth of Manila Bay.It had earlier taken utility firms more than two days to restore electricity to the near-paralysed capital Manila.Meanwhile the NDCC on Saturday alerted Luzon residents of a weather front off the island's east coast that it said could develop into a stronger storm. The Philippines is in the so-called typhoon belt of the Pacific. Up to 20 typhoons sweep through the country each year, killing hundreds of people.

Canada unveils rules for credit rating agencies By Pav Jordan And Jennifer Kwan – Fri Jul 16, 4:00 pm ET

TORONTO (Reuters) – Canada proposed new regulations for credit rating agencies on Friday to boost investor confidence and prevent conflicts of interest that critics say may have contributed to the global credit crisis. The new rules on agencies that assign risk ratings to corporate debt issues are the result of a pledge made by Canada and the other G20 economies to overhaul financial regulation. At the heart of the proposals is a requirement that credit rating agencies apply to become so-called designated rating organizations,or DROs.The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), the umbrella organization for the country's 13 provincial and territorial securities watchdogs, would then require designated agencies to establish policies and procedures to manage conflicts of interest. Many investors consider credit ratings as one of the factors in making investment decisions, and ratings continue to be referred to within securities legislation, so it is important to develop a formal regulatory regime for the oversight of credit rating organizations, said Jean St-Gelais, chairman of the CSA.This CSA initiative is consistent with international developments in addressing the oversight of credit rating agencies, which can have a significant impact upon financial markets,he said in a statement posted on the CSA's website. (http://www.securities-administrators.ca/aboutcsa.aspx?id=915)The measures are meant to reduce the risk of conflicts of interests at credit rating agencies that are paid by the issuers whose debt they rate.

The new regulations will give Canadian regulators the authority for the first time to review and demand changes to the way agencies operate. The biggest credit rating agencies operating in Canada include Toronto-based DBRS; Standard & Poor's, owned by McGraw-Hill Cos, and Moody's Investors Service, owned by Moody's Corp.DBRS is already regulated in the U.S. and soon will be in Europe, and believes it has laid the foundation to meet these new Canadian rules, Canada's only domestically owned and based credit rating agency said of the report on Thursday.Moody's and S&P said in separate statements that they were both reviewing the proposal.Credit agencies came under attack during the global economic crisis after they failed to spot problems with debt that was linked to bad mortgages. The implosion of these securities helped contribute to the global financial crisis.Clearly, they have to be audited from outside if people are trading and buying and selling securities on the basis of their ratings only. They have horrendous power and it has to be monitored, said Thomas Caldwell, chairman of wealth manager Caldwell Financial Ltd.The CSA said it will not oversee the content or methodology of credit ratings, a claim that perplexed Eric Kirzner, a securities expert and professor at the University of Toronto.I don't see how they would exercise direct oversight without getting into the methodology employed, he said.He lauded the move to increase scrutiny, however, and said it was worth any added costs.(The agencies) did their share of damage in the crisis, and the cost of that is that regulation becomes more expensive, Kirzner said.As part of the new regime, DROs would have to set up practices to prevent inappropriate use of information, appoint a compliance officer and make an annual filing, among other requirements. The new rules are subject to changes after a comment period that ends in October. It's a positive step forward and a long time coming, said Philip Anisman, a Toronto securities lawyer. The real questions will have to do with its administration. The adequacy of the regime will depend on the enforcement and compliance mechanisms adopted by the regulators.Closer oversight of credit rating agencies was a pledge made by the Group of 20 emerging and developed economies at a Toronto summit in June, and is part of a global move to overhaul financial regulation.(Reporting by Pav Jordan and Jennifer Kwan, additional reporting by Cameron French; editing by Rob Wilson)

OZONE DEPLETION JUDGEMENT ON THE EARTH DUE TO SIN

ISAIAH 30:26-27
26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold,(7X OR 7-DEGREES) as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people,(ISRAEL) and healeth the stroke of their wound.
27 Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire:

MATTHEW 24:21-22,29
21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake (ISRAELS SAKE) those days shall be shortened (Daylight hours shortened)
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

REVELATION 16:7-9
7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

World simmers in hottest year so far
By Alina Selyukh – Fri Jul 16, 5:23 pm ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The world is enduring the hottest year on record, according to a U.S. national weather analysis, causing droughts worldwide and a concern for U.S. farmers counting on another bumper year. For the first six months of the year, 2010 has been warmer than the first half of 1998, the previous record holder, by 0.03 degree Fahrenheit, said Jay Lawrimore, chief of climate analysis at the federal National Climatic Data Center.Period of a El Nino weather pattern is being blamed for the hot temperatures globally. We had an El Nino episode in the early part of the year that's now faded but that has contributed to the warmth not only in equatorial Pacific but also contributed to anomalously warm global temperatures as well, Lawrimore said.Abnormally warm temperatures have been registered in large parts of Canada, Africa, tropical oceans and parts of the Middle East.Northern Thailand is struggling through the worst drought in 20 years, while Israel is in the middle of the longest and most severe drought since 1920s. In Britain, this year has been the driest since 1929.Also, Arctic sea ice has melted to its thinnest state in June.

However, as cooler temperatures may set in later this year, it remains to be seen whether 2010 will overtake 2005 as the hottest year overall. This year the fact that the El Nino episode has ended and is likely to transition into La Nina, which has a cooling influence on the global average temperature, it's possible that we will not end up with the warmest year as a whole.

EFFECTS ON THE U.S. STATES, FARMERS

The record-warm weather globally hasn't translated into the same in the United States, where June was only eighth hottest to date. For the U.S., January to June, this is only slightly warmer than average, Lawrimore said. What may tip the scale is the development of La Nina, possibly coming in July and August, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.Although La Nina means cooling globally, the transition commonly brings hotter and drier weather to the farming belt of the U.S. Midwest region. It's going to be pretty warm across eastern Nebraska, Iowa, western portions of Missouri, mid to upper 90s (F), said Donald Keeney, senior agriculture meteorologist with CROPCAST Ag Services. The hot temperatures may especially hurt corn pollination, while dry weather could affect soy bean crops, Keeney said. But meteorologist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Eric Luebehusen said the impact of La Nina is usually delayed for the United States, meaning good news for corn farmers. Most crops are already reproductive, he said, so if you can last through the next few weeks, you will pass the really dangerous point where you may sustain yield losses due to heat.Drought is developing in some parts of the Mid-Atlantic states, Lawrimore said, but for now it's moderate and contained in 8 percent of the country. For comparison, 15 percent of the contiguous United States was in drought last year at this time, 27 percent in 2008 and almost half in 2007.(Reporting by Alina Selyukh; Graphic by Jasmin Melvin; Editing by Lisa Shumaker)
