The winner of the annual International Bible Quiz this year kept her family's tradition by following in her father's footsteps 27 years later. Or Eshol of Kfar Saba, 17, defeated 15 competitors to take first prize in the contest -- an achievement first accomplished by her father Shimon when he was a teen.Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was also a proud father after judges announced that his son Avner had won third place. EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS – Parts of Europe will be re-opened for flights on Tuesday as ministers agreed to narrow down the no-fly zones around the Icelandic ash cloud, amid mounting pressure from airlines and experts saying the complete closure was exaggerated. After a four-hour long conference call on Monday (19 April), the 27 transport ministers agreed to carve out three safety zones and ban planes from flying only through the cloud itself and with specific restrictions in a buffer-zone around the ash plume. The pollution-free zones will meanwhile be opened without any restrictions. The exact carve-out is to be drawn up by Tuesday morning in the Brussels-based headquarter of Eurocontrol, the agency pooling and co-ordinating data from 38 national air traffic controllers.The Scandinavian countries, eastern and southern Europe are likely to resume all flights, while Britain, Ireland and the Benelux will probably continue to impose some restrictions, Bo Redeborn from Eurocontrol said at a press briefing.Currently, 18 states have partial or total fly bans. But Mr Redeborn said this reaction was exaggerated, although understandably, due to the unprecedented scale of the ash cloud formed after a volcanic eruption in Iceland last Wednesday.The risk entailed by volcanic ash is that it can melt into glass and damage the jet's engine. A Nato fighter jet flying through the cloud reported such problems, although it managed to land safely.
However, several airliners, such as Lufthansa and Air France-KLM, ran some 40 test flights in cloud-adjacent areas and experienced no problems, voicing their anger against the fly ban which saw them lose hundreds of millions of euros a day.The umbrella association of all air companies, IATA, accused the EU of dragging its feet in taking a decision. The decision that Europe has made is with no risk assessment, no consultation, no co-ordination, no leadership,IATA president Giovanni Bisignani said in Paris.In fact, only a third of the airspace blocked so far is estimated to be risky for planes to fly, Mr Redeborn admitted. The reason for the exaggerated response was linked to the high number of people involved in the decision-making process. The teleconference of stakeholders on Monday comprised some 200 persons.
When all these people get exposed to a situation where there is no previous experience, the safety culture induced environment means that everybody jumps in the direction of safety. Once you learn more about the nature of the ash, what jet engines can cope with, things change little by little.For the first passenger-free test flight, for instance, it took Eurocontrol six hours to get the green light from national authorities, due to a reluctance to take responsibility. But once it proved to be safe, others were easier to get up in the air.In the US - unlike in Europe - airlines are allowed to decide themselves if they want to fly and how to circumvent the ash cloud. National authorities only give them information about the location of the cloud.There were suggestions we move in that direction,Mr Redeborn said, but admitted it was still a distant prospect, as national authorities in Europe still have a say in all matters related to their airspace.
EU bends rules
Meanwhile, the European Commission has signalled willingness to bend competition rules for state aid given to troubled airlines facing an avalanche of costs with stranded and re-routed passengers. In the UK, British Airlines has already filed for state aid.It also advised member states to show leniency to non-EU passengers who now need to travel by land or by sea but have no visas.Nearly seven million passengers are stranded at 313 airports around the world due to the European flight ban.

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - There will be no voting during the European Parliament's plenary session in Strasbourg this week, with most MEPs not making it to the Alsatian capital as travel chaos caused by the Icelandic volcanic ash continues in Europe.The trimmed session, finishing a day early and featuring an emergency debate on Tuesday (20 April) on the chaotic transport situation, was announced by parliament president Jerzy Buzek at the formal opening of the plenary session.The European Parliament plenary session is going ahead in Strasbourg. We have decided that due to travel restrictions there will be no votes. MEPs are fully aware of the dramatic consequences of the ash cloud, Mr Buzek told the chamber. Of the 736 MEPs, around 200 were present to hear the announcement.The parliament's strict rules of procedure meant the formal decision or whether to go ahead with the parliamentary sitting at all had to be taken in Strasbourg and not before. This caused a slightly mutinous feeling among the MEPs that did make it to Strasbourg. Some questioned the point of going ahead with a vote-free session while others noted that if it had been clear earlier that parliament was to convene, more MEPs might have made it.The voting was postponed due to fears both that the legal quorum would not be reached (at least a third of MEPs must be present) and the results would be geographically skewed in favour of MEPs living in mainland Europe and relatively close to Strasbourg.One MEP, reacting to Mr Buzek's praise for the deputies that managed to be in the chamber, said It is our job, it is really nothing special. He went on to chastise Mr Buzek and the parliament's authorities for not giving out information in a speedy fashion.

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - The European Commission has said it is closely monitoring the latest fraud case surrounding Wall Street investment bank Goldman Sachs, as allegations of mispractise draw sharp criticism in a number of European capitals. This is a fraud investigation that is being carried out in the United States. We are obviously following events with great interest,said commission spokeswoman Amelia Torres on Monday (19 April).The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the country's financial regulator, filed charges against Goldman late last week, accusing the company of failing to disclose full information to clients of one of its investment products, known as a collaterised debt obligation (CDO).UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown attacked the famous bank over the weekend, accusing it of moral bankruptcy, after the SEC listed the Royal Bank of Scotland, now 84 percent owned by British taxpayers following a series of government bail-outs, as one of the victims of the CDO at the centre of the case. The US complaint alleges Goldman and Fabrice Tourre, a 31-year old vice president with the firm, hid from investors the fact that the hedge fund Paulson & Co had been influential in determining the composition of loans going into the CDO created by Goldman in 2007. While most investors sought high returns from the structured finance product, Paulson placed bets that the mortgage-linked assets would fall. Nine months after the creation of the CDO, 99 percent of its loans had been downgraded, netting $1 billion for Paulson & Co., and costing the Royal Bank of Scotland $841 million.Everything I find out convinces me that we have got to go in deeper, and I believe that I am the man to deal with these problems,said an election-mode Mr Brown.
Germany has also indicated its interest in the case. The country's IKB bank was an early victim of the credit crunch, losing almost the entirety of its $150 million investment in the Goldman CDO. Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman, Ulrich Wilhelm, said the German regulator BaFin will ask the SEC for detailed information. After a careful evaluation of the documents, we will examine legal steps,he said, report national media. Analysts said the latest revelations could speed the passage of a US financial regulation bill set to hit the senate floor in the coming days, with a subsequent knock-on effect for Europe. Supposing the US adopts legislation before the summer, which is not impossible, this will then become the benchmark for the EU, Nicolas Véron, a financial services analyst with the Brussels-based Bruegel think-tank, told EUobserver. EU internal market and financial services commissioner Michel Barnier is set to propose new legislation on financial derivatives this June, likely to lead to extensive debate between member states and inside the European Parliament.France and other members of the G20 group of leading countries have pledged to regulate the $450 trillion global derivatives market by the end of 2012.
The US announcement of an investigation into Goldman last week comes on top of EU criticism earlier this year that Goldman helped Greece to hide the true extent its debt pile, using a different financial product known as a currency swap. The bank has insisted no rules have been broken in either case.

EUOBSERVER / FEATURE - Last week, Europeans woke up to the sinister news that in the heart of Europe a thoroughly far-right party, the Movement for a Better Hungary, or Jobbik, had won 17 percent of the vote in general elections, almost beating the governing Socialists into third place.Most European nations have their share of far-right fringe groups. But Jobbik is openly anti-semitic and anti-gypsy. It is the founder of a rapidly growing, jackbooted and black-uniformed paramilitary, the Magyar Garda, and it is allied to pariahs such as the British National Party and France's Front National in the EU Parliament. How could such an out-and-out fascist outfit climb so vertiginously high up the greasy pole of politics in the modern era?
It is the clearest sign yet that the economic crisis has woken Europe's most frightening demons.
Or so runs the media narrative.
Long-time watchers of the far-right in Europe describe this version of the story as lazy. Certainly, the crash, which hit Hungary harder than many European nations - it was the first EU member state to run to the IMF - played a role in last week's vote, but the tale is, they say, longer and more complicated.The frustration I have with the sudden burst of media coverage is that for most of the time, the far-right phenomenon is not treated seriously, complains Graeme Atkinson, the European editor of the UK's anti-fascist monthly, Searchlight.They're treated as cranks, so papers don't write about them, don't notice them. And then suddenly something like this happens and they think the sky is falling.I don't go for either picture. It's not that the crisis has suddenly caused this. This is a phenomenon that goes back much further than the last two years ... Of course it exacerbates the situation - it would be surprising if the crisis did not result in some increased support for the far-right. But it's a long-term phenomenon that needs monitoring and countering. It's no reason to panic and then forget about it once the next big news item happens.
Mr Atkinson actually lays the bulk of the blame on the centre-left establishment in Europe: Social democrats everywhere have abandoned their traditional constituency. This is the vacuum the far right are filling.As socialist and labour parties have, pace Tony Blair, embraced business, backed privatisation and instituted social spending cuts, he argues, extremist ideas provide an easy answer to the thousands that feel disoriented by the slings and arrows of the free market.The Perspective Institute, a Budapest polling firm, demographically backs this analyis, noting already in an analysis after last year's European elections in which the party scored 14.8 percent that left-wing voters were en masse turning toward Jobbik: The Hungarian extreme right doesn't primarily recruit its supporters from the centre-right but instead from the leftist camp disappointed with the governmental performance of MSZP [the Socialists]. Jobbik, in certain cases, succeeded in doubling its nationwide share of the votes in cities that had been Socialist strongholds.
Support for far-right ideas doubles in ten years
Hungarian liberal think-tank Political Capital meanwhile has been measuring support for far-right ideas across Europe for a number of years. According to its latest Demand for Right-Wing Extremism (Derex) index, which gauges people's predisposition to far-right politics in 32 European countries, 21 percent of Hungarians are open to extreme right-wing ideas, the highest percentage of any European country other than Bulgaria, where 24.6 percent of the population is so predisposed.Just seven years ago in 2003, only 10 percent of Hungarians had such a propensity, according to the think-tank's surveys. Poland at the same time also had a score of 10 percent. This has since fallen to 6.5 percent.But here it's doubled. The extreme right has profited from a massive growth in disaffection from the political elite. This feeling is not just anti-establishment. They oppose the entire system. They want to get rid of the whole thing,Political Capital analyst Alex Kuli says.Jobbik's growth was unremarkable until the last four years, when it began its meteoric ascent. The key event was in autumn 2006, when street protests in which the party played a key role rampaged through Budapest following the leak of an audiotape revealing that the then Socialist Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany had lied in order to win elections.
But why such a response? There have been political scandals elsewhere.
There was the expenses scandal in the UK, sure, but what happened? asks Mr Kuli. People are investigated by the police, they resign, expelled from the party. They are humiliated. In Hungary, there is a feeling that there is no recourse to the law. People are caught stealing from the public purse and not a single thing is done against them.
Radical youth
One of the most disturbing aspects of the Jobbik phenomenon is how young and educated many of its supporters are. Far-right supporters elsewhere are thought of as the rural uneducated or, in the urban context, to use an old term, lumpenproletarian. But in Hungary so many of them are the Bright Young Things. They believe they are the radical ones, with a burning fire of injustice as self-righteous as any anti-G8 militant from Genoa to Gothenburg to Gleneagles.Hungarian pollster Forsense noted that Jobbik and the country's small Green party, the LMP, together won 24 percent of all votes in the election, but a full 40 percent of votes cast by those under age 24. Almost half of the voters for the two parties are under 35 years of age and only 10 percent of them are over 55.The 2006 events radicalised Hungarian youth. But rather than looking to the left, as disaffected youth have ever done in the West, and once again over the past decade, from the Seattle anti-WTO demonstrations to anti-Iraq war protests in Barcelona, Paris and London and beyond, in Hungary, those who described themselves as left, in the form of the corrupt Socialist party of wealthy businessman Ferenc Gyurcsany, were the ones they were demonstrating against.There's no attraction for angry young people to join something to the left of the [Socialists] because this politic is completely discredited after the collapse of the Soviet bloc, so you just don't get this,Mr Kuli says.Zsolt Varkonyi, the group's presidential campaign chief readying himself for the party's run in the upcoming June presidential elections, at 54 years old is one of the more senior members: There is a big age-gap between me and them. Most of them could be my sons and daughters.
Jobbik's national spokeswoman Dora Duro, for example, he says, is just 22.They get out of school, university and they find themselves without a job. Everyone, even doctors, economists - there has been a huge wave of young people joining the party, he says.Adam Schonburger, an anti-Jobbik campaigner and an organiser with the Budapest Jewish Youth Organisation, has tried to focus his activities on educating young people about Jewish and Gypsy culture, organising an annual festival in the hope they will learn from other sources than the slick Jobbik website and internet chatrooms.University student government is largely controlled by Jobbik, particularly the humanities faculty,he says.You know that Jobbik was actually created by a student government? There is very strong support for Jobbik in the universities,says Adam LeBor, the Hungary correspondent for the Times and the author of the Budapest Protocol, a political thriller that came out last year that focuses on anti-gypsy oppression in the country.Part of this is the economic situation. It is indeed very hard for young people to find a job, but the crucial element is that Jobbik has an extremely savvy web presence, enabling them to sidestep the traditional media and speak directly to youth, to the Facebook generation. It even has pages in English, well-written English that isn't garbled. The other parties haven't really done this.It's a lot more complex than just the nasties are marching.
Judapest
The Magyar Garda, the estimated 3,000-strong paramilitary group founded by Jobbik leader Gabor Vona, has taken to calling the capital Judapest.Socialist Party election posters were defaced with Stars of David and the Jewish community mounted a thousand-strong demonstration the week before the election after a rabbi's windows were stoned during Passover. Orthodox Jews in the supermarket are saluted with a raised arm Heil Hitler. But Mr LeBor says that as terrifying as this is, it is not anti-semitism that is really what he calls the mobilising issue. The mobilising issue is racism against gypsies, which is much more widespread.He blames previous administrations for doing nothing to tackle the problems of the Roma community: No government of any stripe has managed to deal with the situation of the Roma, who live in utter squalor, with high levels of unemployment. It's the classic strategy: in times of crisis, you seek a scapegoat.Roma homes and individuals have been repeatedly shot at and firebombed with Molotov cocktails. In 2009, eight gypsies were killed in incidents police believe to be deliberately targetted against the community.
Gypsy Crime and Israeli companies
Roberto Fiore, leader of Italy's neo-Nazi Forza Nuova addressed a Jobbik rally in Budapest in November last year, but the Jobbik youngsters do not think of themselves as fascists at all. They view themselves as part of a generational change in Hungary,the Political Capital think-tank's Mr Kuli adds. The rest of the world may not be able to speak Hungarian, but the hyper-educated Hungarian youth can read English and know what the rest of the world is saying about them. The Jobbik kids are not big fans.Jobbik are not Nazis, they insist, with the party's English-language website contrasting a relatively gentle picture of Jobbik voters in military traditional dress with a German skinhead with a large swastika tattoo on his neck, whom the caption describes as a Nazi imbecile.On the day of the election, the Jobbik website published an rejoinder raging against the international coverage of the party and in particular an article in The Scotsman newspaper entitled Anti-Roma rhetoric pays off for far right in Hungary explaining why so many people were voting for the party: The scenario is classic. Hungary's economy is in crisis, its large Roma minority is an easy scapegoat, and a far-right party blaming gypsy crooks and welfare spongers is set to be the big winner.Responding to what a Jobbik web-writer viewed in the Scottish report as vicious slander, the party's missive reads: What is this 'classic scenario? Quite simple really. Central Europeans + Economic Downturn = (or rather, must and can only equal) Hateful Extremists and persecution of minorities ... Take a few pennies out of a Hungarian's pocket, and he turns almost immediately into a slavering ultra-nationalist who on the way back from clubbing a local gypsy, will pause only to hurl yet another brick through the windows of his nearest synagogue.Mr Varkonyi, the Jobbik spokesman, says the party is only reminding Hungarians of what Israeli President Shimon Peres himself admitted.
He refers to the boast by Mr Peres of how well his country's real estate sector had been doing at a gathering of businessmen in Tel Aviv in October 2007. The economic situation in Israel is excellent. We are buying up Manhattan, Romania, Hungary and Poland, all due to Israeli business acumen and connections.When EUobserver proposes that Mr Varkonyi perhaps might be misinterpreting the Israeli president's speech, Mr Varkonyi says: Look, 70 percent of Budapest belongs to Israeli companies. These were not empty words - there was something behind it.Krisztina Morvai, an MEP for the party and Jobbik's presidential candidate once spat: So-called proud Hungarian Jews should go back to playing with their tiny little circumcised tails.
But even she, a mother of three and practising human rights lawyer who once worked for the United Nations, styles her anti-Jewish rhetoric not with the bile of a Der Sturmer polemic, but couched in a pro-Palestinian discourse, albeit one that Palestinian solidarity groups elsewhere distance themselves from. In February, 2009, following Israel's assault on the Gaza Strip that killed 1400 Palestinians, she wrote in a letter to the Jewish state's ambassador to Hungary: The only way to talk to people like you is by assuming the style of Hamas. I wish all of you lice-infested, dirty murderers will receive Hamas' kisses.Mr Varkonyi also insists that the party's strategy for dealing with the gypsy problem is no different to what is being done in Italy or Slovakia.And there is a reality to what we say about gypsy crime. There were 118 case of gypsies committing crimes against Hungarians from 1993 to 2009.We don't need sociological explanations when it is suggested to him that crime rates may grow amongst economically dislocated, racially oppressed communities. How does a sociological explanation feel to an old lady who has had her head cut off by an 18-year-old gypsy, or a girl who is tied to a tree and raped and then set on fire?
Political magpies
We are not even a right-wing party,declares Mr Varkonyi. We do not believe in the division between left and right. The true division is between those who want globalisation and those who do not. We are a patriotic party.He goes on to approvingly quote the left-wing Franco-American Tobin-Tax and anti-Lisbon-Treaty campaigner Susan George, criticising the privatisation of energy and water companies.There is some cross-over with the anti-globalisation protests [at the turn of the millenium]. But the difference is that we respect private property. We are different from the Seattle protestors in that we want local private property but not a global version of private property.Indeed, the Jobbik website article goes on to try to deliver as proof that the party are not your average Nazi boneheads a laundry-list of policies, which, in all fairness, no one would be surprised to hear coming out of the mouths of the likes of leftist figures such as a Jose Bove, Oscar Lafontaine or Olivier Besancenot: rejecting IMF austerity measures, the influence of agribusiness and unrestricted cowboy-capitalism.However, Jobbik, like any classic far-right formation, are political magpies, picking and choosing from the left and the right. Its website article that is supposed to explode myths about the party goes on to explain, without giving evidence, how gypsies increase crime in whichever country they go to, promotes Greater Hungary chauvinism - aiming to restore Hungary to its pre-World-War-One borders - and demands the return of the Csendorseg, the Hungarian Gendarmerie, the country's chief agents of Jewish deportations during the Holocaust, notorious for robberies, acts of torture and a viciousness which startled even the Germans.When the Gendarmerie walked down the street and gypsies saw them, they would run away. They knew someone was watching them,warns Mr Varkonyi.
2006 riots
Vilmos Hanti, the president of the Hungarian Federation of Resistance Fighters and Anti-fascists (Measz), which dates back to 1945, blames the youthful attraction to the far-right on a gap in the school curriculum after 1990.History books used in the schools are without a word of criticism regarding the role of Hungary in the Second World War. The young people of today know very little about Hungarian anti-fascist resistance,he says.In spite of our efforts, a museum presenting Hungarian resistance to young people was never realised.In the six months that followed the 2006 anti-Gyurcsany riots in Budapest, Jobbik boosted its profile with a militant campaign against Gypsy crime.Then, further building on its notoriety, the following year, the party launched the paramilitary Magyar Garda, or Hungarian Guard.The Magyar Garda, attired in black boots, black trousers, white shirt and black vest, take their oaths under the red-and-white striped flag of Arpad, the banner of the Arrow Cross, the Hungarian fascists who murdered between 10,000 and 15,000 Jews and together with the Gendarmes sent 80,000 to their deaths in Auschwitz.The Budapest Jewish Youth Organisation's Mr Schonburger says that the police in many cases are leaving the Hungarian Guard to solve problems: They say We can't help. Go ask the Hungarian Guard.Still, even two years after the riots, as late as December 2008, the party could not claim more than roughly three percent of voters. Over the following five months, it started to climb sharply as the economic crisis began to pinch, winning 14.8 percent or 428,000 votes cast in the June 2009 European Parliamentary elections, making it for the first time a serious political force.
And then onn 10 April 2010, the party won 16.7 percent or 844,000 ballots, doubling its number of voters in less than a year.While Jobbik, led by 32-year-old Gabor Vona, a history teacher and founder of the Hungarian Guard - who has said he will wear his Magyar Garda uniform when sworn in as an MP - has won over thousands of young people, it is not true to say that they form the majority of the party's voters. The bulk of Jobbik's support actually comes from the east of the country, where there is enormous economic dislocation. There, one finds a strong correlation between such poverty and support for Jobbik.It should also be remembered that in Budapest, the LMP, from its Hungarian acronym for Politics Can Be Different, which is affiliated to the European Green Party, is also a party of the young, and that it beat Jobbik into fourth place inside the capital. The Times' Mr Lebor thinks there may be some hope here: And this is a party that barely existed six months ago. All people really know about them is that they are sort of green and progressive. They don't know much more.Mr Kuli, for his part, is dismissive of the upstart LMP, a left-wing group but untarnished by any link to the Communist Party. Their leader, Andras Schiffer, a lawyer, in the 1990s defended a bar that refused entry to two gypsies and the husband of the party's number six on their list is a legal advisor to Jobbik, so is there a real human rights commitment there or is it opportunism?
Searchlight's Mr Atkinson is quite pessimistic about the chances for a movement against the growth of the far right in the country: Measz [the official Hungarian anti-fascist organisation] are very elderly, and maybe a bit old Stalinist, so there is that mark against them,he concedes. But they were very heroic people in their time, although they are not really up for a fight now. There are no young anti-racist or anti-fascist groups that I know of, at least not on the scale that exist in most Western countries, even in eastern countries, Russia.There is no real opposition in Hungary. It would be nice to see if something happens with the [LMP], although I worry they don't have much of a base.
Will Fidesz take them on?
And what of Fidesz, the socially conservative party of family values and law and order that won the election? After winning a whopping 52.8 percent of the vote and heading for an even better result in the second round that should give it a two-thirds majority in the parliament, it has no need to build a coalition with the far-right. Many are thankful that this at least this puts something of a break on and perhaps reverses Jobbik's advance, which according to some polls, had reached 25 percent support ahead of the voting.After the first round of voting, Fidesz' charismatic leader, Victor Orban, said he would take on Jobbik: No radical party will be allowed to get rid of law and order in this country, he told reporters. Democracy in this country is strong enough to defend itself.However, Mr Atkinson believes Fidesz is a worry in itself: I cringe when I see some in the press refer to Fidesz as centre-right.They're not. They're nationalist populist, what in German is sometimes referred to as a Volkisch right.Fidesz, itself once a party of youth - the name is an acronym of Fiatal Demokratak Szovetsege, or Alliance of Young Democrats - was founded in 1988 as a libertarian anti-Communist party, joining the Liberal International in 1992. After a poor showing in the 1994 elections, it switched allegiance from liberalism to conservatism.The British anti-fascist editor says Mr Orban is a political chameleon, shifting ideology to whatever will keep him in power. He notes that the party has been in coalition with Jobbik at the local level in around 100 municipalities.In 2008, Fidesz MP Oszkar Molnar, who was also mayor of Edeleny, a town in eastern Hungary, famously claimed that pregnant Roma women take medication to give birth to fools to receive higher family subsidies. I have checked this and it's true; they hit their bellies with a rubber hammer so that they'll give birth to handicapped kids.Responding to Mr Molnar's statement, Mr Orban said only that his speech was embarrassing,although the MP was later dropped from national lists and quit the party.But Mr Kuli, from the Poltical Capital think-tank, thinks the conservative party should be given the benefit of the doubt for now. Fidesz has dealt with these issues very gingerly, it is true. But it's a political calculation. They do not want to alienate their rural support by taking decisive action against Molnar and send them into the arms of Jobbik. I don't necessarily support this strategy, but this is why they acted this way,he said.The Times' Mr LeBor believes that to call Fidesz Jobbik lite is a complete nonsense. During the election campaign it made great efforts to distance itself from Jobbik. Like all parties, they include a wide range of views. Some of their MPs are more right-wing than others.The Budapest Jewish Youth Organisation's Mr Schonburger also does not think Fidesz are wolves in centre-right sheep's clothing, but he does wish the party was more forthright in countering Jobbik: We are hoping for the incoming government to make a clear statement on the issue in the next two weeks, Orban needs to make more public statements about what has happened. But I don't know if they are willing to. We certainly don't see any clear statement coming from them yet.He is however furious at the post-Hungarian election triumphalism of other conservative parties across Europe: How can they call this a victory? How can they celebrate when so many people have voted for Jobbik? This is the most important issue facing Hungary, maybe even more important than the economic crisis. Something is going on here. How in the middle of Europe, in this new part of the EU, can we have such radical voters, Jobbik, the Hungarian Guard?
Analyst Mr Kuli is more optimistic: What will Hungary look like in two years? Orban says he will be able to renegotiate the terms of the IMF deal. But he has very little room to manoeuvre. At the same time, the stability that a supermajority gives Fidesz - it will be the most stable government since 1990 - shouldn't be forgotten. And the economic gurus around him are very intelligent men.But even he issues a warning: The trick is if Orban goes further with austerity measures. If his voters see that he doesn't have their dreams in mind, I think you'd see protests against him as well.And Jobbik will be ready and waiting in the wings.
Nationalist victory threatens Cyprus peace process

A right-wing nationalist appears to have won the presidential election in northern Cyprus, potentially threatening hopes for reunification of the divided island.Dervis Eroglu, the 72-year-old leader of the conservative National Unity Party, has won 50.38 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results posted on the website of the Turkish Cypriot High Electoral Board, beating left-wing incumbent Mehmet Ali Talat of the social-democratic Republican Turkish Party with 42.85 percent.If the results are confirmed by the country's electoral commission, Mr Ergolu, currently the prime minister of Turkish-controlled Cyprus, which is recognised as a country by Turkey only, would avoid a run-off vote.While Mr Talat has been a strong supporter of the renewed peace process and ultimately of the reunification of Cyprus, Mr Eroglu wants to see separate Greek and Turkish Cypriot states.No-one must think that I will walk away from the negotiating table. The talks process will continue, he told NTV, a Turkish broadcaster, however. I will work with goodwill for a solution that takes my community's rights into account.Analysts say his victory is due to frustration with the peace process among northern Cypriots.Mr Talat has repeatedly met with his Greek Cypriot counterpart, Demetris Christofias, of the far-left Akel party since talks restarted in 2008. But the deadlock remains despite their ideological proximity. Northerners are especially annoyed by Greek Cyprus' blockade of its access to EU markets. Reunification talks resumed in September 2008 with strong support from Ankara, which faces problems with its EU entry bid because of the situation.In 2006 the EU blocked eight negotiating areas from further discussion due to Turkey's failure to meet commitments regarding Cyprus, notably its refusal to allow Cypriot ships and planes into Turkish territory.For its part, Turkey maintains that Europe has not fulfilled its own promises regarding expanded links with Northern Cyprus, after Turkish Cypriots voted in favour of the UN peace plan for re-unification of the island in 2004, just before Cyprus joined the EU.Greek Cypriots living on the southern part of the island voted down the proposal, which resulted in the island entering the union in its divided form.The EU considers the whole of the island to be part of the bloc. Israel Rejects Turkish Request to Buy Arms

Israel has declined a request by Turkey to purchase several different military systems, including an anti-tank guided weapon and a missile system for its navy. The request by the Turkish government was rejected by Israel's SIBAT, the defense assistance and export organization, which is currently reviewing each order on a case-by-case basis.Turkey said it wanted to buy the Spike non-line-of-site (NLOS) anti-tank guided weapon, the Namer heavy infantry fighting vehicle, and the Israel Aerospace Industries' (IAI) Barak 8 theater-defense missile system for its navy, according to UK-based Jane's Defence Weekly. Israel did, however, deliver the last of 170 upgraded M60A1 main battle tanks (MBTs) to the Turkish military on April 7 through a joint contract between Israel Military Industries (IMI) and Turkey's Aselsan, shepherded along by Columbia.The move is seen as a response to Turkey's increasing anti-Israel rhetoric and the pro-Islamic leanings in its foreign and domestic policies.An Israeli defense official was quoted by the military publication as saying, Ties with Turkey will never be the way they once were. We are being very careful which systems we sell them, due to the growing Islamic trends in the country.Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Recep Erdogan harshly criticized Israel during and following its counter terrorism Operation Cast Lead in Gaza, which ran from December 28, 2008 to January 20, 2009.
Since that time, relations between the two countries have steadily deteriorated, a trend reflected in Turkey's decision in October 2009 to bar Israel's Air Force from participating in the joint Anatolian Eagle exercises. Turkey ultimately chose to cancel the drill rather than back down in response to pressure from the United States and Italy, who were also set to participate.As a result, Israel has also been searching for new air space in which to conduct long-range training exercises, since Turkey has refused the IAF use of its air space. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met with Lord Jacob Rothschild and other members of the Rothschild family Sunday and thanked them for their pledge to donate more than $150 million for the building of a new National Library. The Prime Minister informed the Rothschilds of the government's decision to set aside a plot in Jerusalem's Kiryat HaLeom government complex for the construction of the library.

It is currently housed in a relatively old building with outdated infrastructure and cannot offer its visitors services on par with many other modern national libraries. The Memorial Day-Independence Day Link

Memorial Day for Israel's Fallen and Victims of Terrorism will end, as do other Jewish holidays, at nightfall, and the somber nature of the day will give way to the gaiety and festivities of Israel’s 62nd Independence Day. The transition between the days was explained by the late Rabbi Shlomo Goren, the first Chief Rabbi of the IDF and the man who set the date of Memorial Day. He said, We view the warriors who fall in battle as those who sprout forth life. The life of a nation grew out of this blood... This day must be more than mourning: We must remember, we must grieve, but it must [also] be a day of majesty and vision.Rabbi Goren explained, in a 1974 speech, how he came to set Memorial Day just before Independence Day: The merit of doing this fell in my lot.. We first thought of setting Memorial Day on Lag BaOmer, the day that historically symbolizes the Bar Kokhba war, and that which is still celebrated by Jewish children as the day of Jewish strength. We thought we could thus combine the heroism of our early ancestors with that of our own children in this generation. But doubts crept in: Would we not cause harm to the general significance, shrouded in mystery as it is, of that historic day?
One of the Fast Days, or during the Three Weeks in which we remember the destruction of Jerusalem and the Holy Temples, was then proposed [for Memorial Day]. But we could not accept the fact that the Memorial Day for the Fallen Soldiers would be solely a day of mourning. It was felt that this day must be more than that. We must remember, we must grieve, but not only that - it must [also] be a day of... majesty and vision. We realized, therefore, that we could not assign this day to any existing holiday. But the first Independence Day was rapidly approaching [and we had not yet set a date to memorialize our fallen], and so we did what we did - without announcing it formally and without setting any specific format for the day. I went to Voice of Israel studios on the day before Independence Day, and read aloud the Chief of Staff’s Daily Military Order [including an announcement of memorial for the fallen soldiers], which he wrote according to my request. And so I became the narrator and the one who set Memorial Day on what became its date.Both Memorial Day and Independence Day are commemorated one day later than usual this year, by order of the Chief Rabbinate, in order to prevent the Sabbath desecration that would have resulted from having Memorial Day begin on Saturday night.
History of the Fallen
The 1948-49 War of Independence was Israel's costliest war, with more than 6,000 dead - 1% of the Jewish population at the time - and 15,000 wounded. The war consisted of 39 separate operations, fought from the borders of Lebanon to the Sinai Peninsula and Eilat.Then followed seven years of relative quiet - during which there were "1,339 cases of armed clashes with Egyptian armed forces, 435 cases of incursion from Egyptian-controlled territory, and 172 cases of sabotage perpetrated by Egyptian military units and fedayeen [terrorists] in Israel,in which 101 Israelis were killed, as Israeli Ambassador to the UN Abba Eban explained to the Security Council on October 30, 1956. Eban gave these statistics the day after Israel began the Sinai Campaign - its military response to Egypt's violation of international agreements by sealing off the Israeli port of Eilat, effectively stopping Israel's sea trade with much of Africa and the Far East. A total of 231 Israeli soldiers died in the Sinai Campaign fighting. In March 1957, after receiving international guarantees that Israel's vital waterways would remain open, Israel withdrew from the Sinai and Gaza - yet the Egyptians still refused to open the Suez Canal to Israeli shipping.The Six-Day War broke out on June 5, 1967. Along with the stunning victories, over 770 Israelis were killed. Then began the period of the War of Attrition, which claimed 424 soldiers and more than 100 civilians. A ceasefire was declared on August 8, 1970. Egypt and Syria attacked Israel on Yom Kippur, 1973. The IDF ultimately emerged victorious, but a total of 2,688 soldiers were killed in the Yom Kippur War.
In June 1982, in response to continued terrorist attacks and Katyusha shellings from across the Lebanese border, as well as an assassination attempt upon Israel's late Ambassador to Great Britain Shlomo Argov, Israel attacked the terrorists in Lebanon in what was known as Operation Peace for Galilee. Close to 460 soldiers were killed between June and December 1982, and another 760 in daily ambushes against Israeli forces over the next two and a half years. Between December 1987, when the first Arab intifada broke out, and the signing of the Oslo Accords in late 1993, 90 Israelis were murdered. Between the Oslo signing and the beginning of what became known as the Oslo War in September, 2000, 251 Israelis were murdered by terrorists.

The IDF and Terror Victims Remembrance Day ceremonies included a special one that memorialized Jews killed in anti-Semitic terror attacks outside Israel, some of them Jewish Agency workers. According to Jewish Agency data, 200 Jews have been murdered in anti-Semitic actions in various parts of the world, since the founding of the Jewish State. Their names are carved on a permanent memorial that will be unveiled at the ceremony.The Jewish Agency of Israel, the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish National Fund, Keren Hayesod and the United Jewish Communities (UJC) of America joined in planning the event.Natan Sharansky, former prisoner of Zion and present head of the Jewish Agency spoke, saying: We know that our strength comes not only from the IDF but is enhanced by the Jewish People's identification with the Jewish State. That is why the war against the State of Israel and the Jewish People has no boundaries and our enemies attack us not only in. Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, but in Argentina, France, England and Mumbai. Our enemies estimate our strength correctly. It is impossible to separate our identity from our identification.

Norma, a Mexican citizen who had been traveling in India, was planning Aliyah to Israel with Jewish Agency help when she was killed in the vicious attack that claimed eight victims and left the young child of the Holtzberg couple, the Chabad emissaries who ran the house, an orphan. EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - EU officials expect there to be too few MEPs in Strasbourg on Monday (19 April) to make voting possible because of the volcanic ash cloud over Europe.There may not be enough MEPs to form a quorum. Those who were stuck in Brussels anyway can make it. But some of them have to take three flights to get there, Marjory van den Broeke, the EU parliament's spokeswoman told EUobserver on Sunday evening.At least one third of the parliament's 736 deputies have to be present in plenary for a vote to be legally valid. Some MEPs were unable to fly home from the EU capital last week when ash from a volcano in Iceland grounded flights across Europe. But many others are now stuck in their constituencies.EU officials have been asked to make the trip from Brussels to Strasbourg anyway. The heads of the parliament's political groups will then meet in the French city to decide what to do.If there are not enough MEPs, options include formally opening the session and then immediately closing it, sending everyone home; holding debates only but not votes, which could take place later; having no debates or votes but ploughing through the rest of the schedule.
Ms van den Broeke said the situation has restarted chatter about the folly of having multiple seats for the EU parliament, an obligation under the EU treaty.It has also led to jokes at MEPs' expense. If they held the votes by written procedure, it would set a dangerous precedent. After last week telling airlines they must compensate passengers as normal, the European Commission at the weekend changed direction and created a high-level group to explore the option of financial aid to air carriers, which have been haemorrhaging €230 million a day since the volcano struck. EU transport ministers will on Monday also hold a special videoconference about safety after airlines over the weekend complained that the travel ban is too strict. The Brussels-based air traffic body, Eurocontrol, on Sunday evening said that 19,000 out of 24,000 flights were cancelled on the day, with airspace partly or fully closed in 17 EU countries. It predicted positive evolution in the coming days and said isolated pockets of upper airspace are becoming ash-free.

Finance ministers cautious over budget proposals

EU finance ministers meeting in Madrid over the weekend (16-18 April) expressed caution regarding upcoming European Commission proposals on greater budgetary surveillance. Under the plans, to be presented in full on 12 May, euro area member states and the commission would engage in a system of peer review so that national budgets would be subject to systematic and rigorous assessments,before then being passed on to national parliaments for approval, explained EU economy commissioner Olli Rehn.Remedial actions would then be taken if necessary, the Finnish politician told the gathering of European financial heavyweights, drawing support from Luxembourg's Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker.It makes sense to discuss among the finance ministers the broad lines of the budget before these budgets are introduced in the parliamentary procedure,said Mr Juncker, who chairs the monthly meetings of eurozone finance ministers.
A number of other member states were more cautious however, concerned that plans could erode national parliamentary control over domestic budgets. Joerg Asmussen, Germany's deputy finance minister, said it was quite clear that national budget authority has to remain unrestricted, although we are obviously subject to the rules of the Stability and Growth Pact.The pact, a system of rules limiting EU deficits to three percent, has been widely flouted by member states in recent years, leading to the current fiscal difficulties seen in several European countries, in particular Greece. Spanish finance minister Elena Salgado, whose country currently holds the EU's rotating presidency, was also muted in her support for the commission's budgetary proposals, again highlighting the need to preserve the role of national parliaments. They are not going to substitute the decisions made by national parliaments,she said.Nation states are complicated and budgets are complicated.
Bank levy
The creation of a bank levy that could create reserve funds for future bail-outs was also among the ideas discussed by the finance meeting, which included central bankers. The swathe of European bank rescues which followed the financial crisis, largely funded by the taxpayer, has lead to growing calls for the industry to stump up for some of the costs. The meeting's attendees failed to agree on a specific measure however, despite a broad consensus that the EU needs to find a better way to deal with aid to the banking sector. European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet said the idea of a bank levy called for prudent steps,while Mr Rehn said further discussion was needed. Ms Salgado warned that a level playing field at the international level would be required if the idea was to work, adding that the creation of an emergency cash reserve could lead to banks increasing their risky behaviour.
Bishop urges EU leaders to criticise Vatican stupidity

In an interview with EUobserver on Friday (16 April), Peter Moran, the Bishop of Aberdeen in Scotland, said the church's cover up of child abuse in Ireland 40 years ago was facilitated by an exaggerated deference toward the clergy.I would not like to think that there is any exaggerated deference by Christian leaders in Europe toward the church authorities today. To put it very simply, if the church says something that is wrong or stupid, even Christian leaders should have the courage to say: No. I disagree with that. You are wrong. That was a stupid thing to say.Bishop Moran was referring to a statement by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican's secretary of state, who earlier this month said that homosexuality, not clerical celibacy, is a cause of paedophilia.Cardinal Bertone's remark - a classic tenet of homophobia - followed revelations that the Catholic elite, including Pope Benedict XVI himself, had in the past protected paedophile priests from exposure, in an unfolding crisis for the Vatican's credibility.The leaders of the EU institutions, all three of whom are Christian democrats, have stayed silent on the subject despite calls by the Liberal group in the EU parliament for them to take a stand.
Bishop Moran said that delegates at a conclave of 21 bishops in Brussels last Friday under the auspices of Comece, a church body set up to analyse EU policy, were shocked to know that someone in Rome had said that this [paedophilia] is a problem of homosexuality.This kind of abuse is found in all parts of society - in families, in heterosexual situations, in homosexual situations. It is not attached to any of those.On the broader issue of paedophile priests, he said the church has turned a corner by apologising to victims, co-operating with civil authorities, excluding convicted abusers and scrutinising candidates for priesthood for signs of sexual deviance.Asked if EU leaders should put pressure on the Vatican to do more, he said: Perhaps it will satisfy some of the electorate of the EU if people see that they, speaking as Europe, are saying to the Catholic church: Please put your house in order.But the Catholic church will say: In the past, we made mistakes. We are sorry for them. We have already put our house in order.In terms of rebuilding trust with parishioners, Bishop Moran said it would be easy, but not helpful to point out that abusive priests were in a small minority. It [reconciliation] is a very difficult, a long path. We simply have to be even more true to our own principles. We have to be very careful about our priorities - the first among these is care and love for vulnerable people, the young and the vulnerable.

Returning to the question of whether clerical celibacy causes sexual dysfunction, including paedophilia, Bishop Moran added that perhaps now we will carry out a survey of that kind.The most comprehensive study to date into Roman Catholic child abuse was funded by the church and carried out by the City University of New York in 2004, covering the vast majority of US dioceses between 1950 and 2002. It found that most alleged offences were carried out by priests aged between 30 and 39 who had been ordained between 1950 and 1979, many of whom also had a drinking problem. Most victims were boys aged 11 to 14. Allegations concerned 2.7 percent of all priests and numbered 200 cases a year on average, with a peak in 1980.

After Holyland: Demands to Investigate Other Projects

In the wake of the bribery scandal surrounding the Holyland project in Jerusalem, civilians and local politicians are asking police to look into other projects approved from those suspected of taking bribes in the Holyland affair. Among the projects now under suspicion are the Jerusalem light rail train and the Assuta Bauhaus Village project in Tel Aviv.Jerusalem Councilwoman Yael Entebbe has sent a letter to Police National Fraud Unit head Ziva Agami, asking that the Jerusalem light rail project be investigated. Entebbe argues that approval for the light rail project was not logical at the time, and that the project has been given major financial backing for reasons that are not clear.The light rail has cost far more than it was supposed to, and has taken much longer than planned to build. Entebbe told Arutz Sheva's Hebrew news service that even if the cost and construction time had been as planned, the train was not the appropriate solution for Jerusalem's transportation problems. Jerusalem needs flexible forms of public transportation, such as buses, the routes of which can be changed based on changes in the city, she explained.One of the most suspicious points, Entebbe believes, is that the state has promised to ensure that the investors make money on the project. The state is committing to a very large number of passengers. If that number doesn't materialize, the state will pay the difference between the prediction and the actual demand,she said.The commitment could end up costing the state tens of millions of shekels per year, she said. The light rail project was approved at approximately the same time that the Holyland project won permits, allegedly through bribery, Entebbe notes. It could be, she says, that the same city officials who took bribes in the Holyland case did the same when it came to solving Jerusalem's transportation problems. During that period a lot of things got started that apparently were not entirely above board,she said.
Holyland Suspect Among Assuta Planners
Opponents of the Assuta Bauhaus Village project in Tel Aviv discovered this week that one of the project's first planners, architect Uri Sheetrit, was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the Holyland affair. They plan to ask the National Council for Planning and Construction to reexamine the Assuta project, and Sheetrit's involvement in particular.The Assuta project, a luxury housing development, faces opposition from neighbors and from the Israel Union for Environment Defense. Apartments in the planned development, which sell for as much as 59,000 shekels ($15,600) per square meter, have been purchased by Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Bank Leumi CEO Galia Maor, and Mizrahi-Tefahot CEO Eliezer Yones, among others. The Syrian Missile Crisis: Threat of War Very Real

18 April 2010: The threat of a regional war involving Syria, Lebanon, Hezbollah and Israel is more ominous today that it has been at any time since the end of the brief summer war of 2006. The hair-trigger this time involves the reported Syrian delivery of WMD-capable SS-1C Scud-B ballistic missiles or, according to anonymous Israeli sources the SS-1E Scud D,to the Shi’a terrorist organization Hezbollah in Lebanon.
On Tuesday, 13 April 2010, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak went public in confirming the stunning news that the governments of Syria and Lebanon were in blatant and deliberate violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 which brought a tenuous end to the Israel-Hezbollah war of July-August 2006. The bombshell news first reported by the Kuwaiti Al-Rai news agency was that Syria was in the process of transferring Scud ballistic missiles to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Item 8 of UNSCR 1701 called for no sales or supply of arms and related materiel to Lebanon except as authorized by its Government,and Item 14 called for the Government of Lebanon to secure its borders and other entry points to prevent the entry in Lebanon without its consent of arms or related materiel,and Item 15(a) which decided all States shall take the necessary measures to prevent, by their nationals or from their territories … The sale or supply to any entity or individual in Lebanon of arms and related materiel of all types, including weapons and ammunition, military vehicles and equipment, paramilitary equipment, and spare parts for the aforementioned, whether or not originating in their territories; and 15(b) The provision to any entity or individual in Lebanon of any technical training or assistance related to the provision, manufacture, maintenance or use of the items listed in subparagraph (a) above…With the reported transfer of Scud ballistic missiles and the training in Syria of Hezbollah troops on the operation and maintenance of these weapons Syria has been caught red-handed and in clear war-provoking violation of UNSCR 1701. The government of Lebanon shares in culpability due to its obvious complicity in the arming and training of Hezbollah’s forces due to its failure to control its national territory and borders. This is the most egregious violation of UNSCR 1701 to date, as evidenced by the wholesale re-arming of Hezbollah with even more advanced weapons (such as Syrian-made M-600 rockets and Russian-made Igla-S MANPADS) by Iran, Syria and possibly North Korea during the past 3 years and 7 months, and constitutes a rock-solid casus belli for Israel to immediately begin pre-emptively striking the missiles, and fixed targets related to the weapons transfer and associated training facilities in both Lebanon and Syria. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad bears the lion’s share of personal responsibility for provoking the threat of a regional war which could very rapidly escalate to a large-scale exchange of weapons of mass destruction in the Levant.
While rumors continue to circulate in major world capitals that the Syrian’s transferred top-of-the line SS-1E Scud-D (50 meter CEP) missiles to Hezbollah, no proof of has yet been made public to confirm the rumor. These missiles would give Hezbollah the capability ot act as a proxy for iran in launching a preemptive or retaliatory strike against Israel’s Dimona nuclear complex should Israel strike Iranian nuclear targets in the near term. Sans photographic or human intelligence proof of the Scud variant transferred to Hezbollah, my assessment is that Syria sent the SS-1C Scud-B variant to Hezbollah. Scud-Bs are 1960s-era missiles (obsolete for a modern army), and they would suit Hezbollah better because they’re very much a weapon of terror with a 900 meter CEP (Circular Error Probable). Scud-B can carry a thickened VX gas chemical warhead. As with a tossed grenade – close is good enough.
In either case, once Israel confirms Hezbollah’s possession of Scud missiles and their operational status vice a malicious ruse of inoperable missile shells, an imminent and series of strategic strikes by Israel would be virtually assured. Should these strike occur, as I believe they will, then this will likely become a war of widespread WMD use per Isaiah 17:4-11, followed by a rapid escalation into the fulfillment of Psalm 83, Joshua 13:1-7 and Zechariah 9.Today we should enjoy the calm before the storm, a storm which lies a hair’s breadth distance between the current relative calm and full-scale NBC warfare. America’s position in this war will determine the near-term fate of this Constitutional Republic per Genesis 12:3.

Lakin, whom we both recall refused orders to deploy to Afghanistan, cited lingering doubts over the constitutionality of Barack Obama’s presidency, and by extension, the legality of his orders to deploy. Before we get started, a word of advice: You should really skip the Humble Correspondent bit, your ego is enormous and dwarfed only by Obama’s.Your entire segment on Lakin was so laden with eye-rolls, snarky facial expressions and verbal sanctimony, your Body Language Expert, Tonya Reiman would have a field day dissecting it.My principal beef with you is your oft-repeated claim that you single-handedly debunked the alleged myth that Barack Obama was not born in the United States by digging up two public notices in Hawaii papers announcing the August, 1961 birth of little Barry and that these notices prove beyond doubt that Obama was born in the United States.You opined that Obama’s parents would have had to fake Barack Obama’s birth, cuz we’re gonna know he’s gonna be president and that Newspapers only print birth announcements when you call them and tell them Hey, your baby’s born.Well, perhaps next time you get the urge to be so sanctimonious on air, you might check your facts first, for those statements expose your second-grade reasoning and feeble command of this issue.
Contrary to the narrow way in which you’ve framed this debate, there is not one, but several theories percolating about Barack Obama’s citizenship, or lack thereof, ranging from his being born in Kenya to his being born in the US to parents who were ineligible to confer natural-born status upon him, as is required by Article II Section I of the US Constitution. The fact that he has put every single document under seal that would shed light on the subject except a computer-generated, Internet-proffered phony with no physician signature and no hospital of birth means that no one, including you, know what his status is.Let’s say for the sake of argument that his parents did fake those birth announcements. Your assertion that they would had to have known he was going to be president some day is completely irrelevant; a red herring. If he was born out of the country and they simply wanted to make him a citizen, all they would have had to do is sneak Barry into the US and then call the papers and tell them, as you said. Hey, the baby’s born.We’re talking about 1961. As you yourself admitted and the facts show, one didn’t need to prove a birth occurred, they only had to call their local paper and they would post the announcement. Therefore, Bill, those two announcements only prove that around the time of his alleged birthday in August, 1961, someone called the Hawaiian papers and submitted a birth announcement.You constantly misrepresent that the birther movement’s central argument is that Barack Obama wasn’t born in the US, while conveniently overlooking other key questions about the legal status of both parents at the time of his birth and the constitutional requirement of natural born citizenship.
Why are you and Beck so afraid of this issue? You claim to be such staunch conservative defenders of our Constitution, yet cower in fear of a ratings backlash over a constitutional requirement for the presidency that remains in dispute. I get the impression that you both actually believe there’s some merit to the argument, but are afraid of the consequences of it being true.The Internet’s most complete archive of information on Barack Obama’s eligibility has challenged you many times to come clean. Clearly, such intense coverage of an incident that took place fifteen years ago is being done to keep the heat on the millions of Americans who distrust the federal government in the continuing effort to portray them as domestic terrorists.A key facet of this PR campaign is to reinforce the official story behind the Oklahoma City Bombing, that the attack was carried out by right-wing anti-government extremists and a similar tragedy could strike again unless the Internet is censored and Constitutionalists, tea party members, libertarians and anyone who expresses dissent are harassed and have their free speech revoked.The top story on the SPLC’s website today also invokes the OKC bombing as a lesson through which to refocus attention on right-wing extremists.April 19 marks the 15th anniversary of the bombing of a federal building in Oklahoma City – the worst single act of domestic terrorism in our nation’s history and a grim reminder of the fruits of right-wing radicalism. The anniversary comes as the antigovernment militia movement is experiencing a resurgence,states the SPLC website.There can be little doubt that the American people are being manipulated to accept the inevitability that right-wing militias and lone wolf extremists are preparing another attack, and that the culprit for the violence will be talk radio, the Internet, and the widespread dissent now being displayed against the federal government.Don’t be surprised if the feds activate their networks of paid provocateurs and stooges to stage yet another false flag attack that will be used to silence the free speech of the government’s most prominent critics.
As part of this propaganda effort, MSNBC will today air The McVeigh Tapes: Confessions of an American Terrorist, where viewers will hear for the first time Timothy McVeigh admitting that he carried out the attack. What they won’t hear is McVeigh admitting, as he explained in a letter to his sister prior to the attack, that he was working at the behest of the federal government when he detonated the bomb that tore apart the Alfred P. Murrah building.In a Oct. 20 letter, McVeigh wrote his sister that he and nine other soldiers had been taken to a private intelligence briefing at Fort Bragg, where they were told they could be required to participate in government-sanctioned assassinations and government-sponsored drug trafficking,reported the New York Times on July 1 1998.In reality, as anyone who has done five minutes research into the OKC bombing will understand, the official story crumbles on the merest hint of casual examination.While the media, the SPLC, the ADL and similar organizations are happy to play the Timothy McVeigh card over and over again, they are less enthusiastic to mention the fact that McVeigh planned his deadly assault on the Alfred P. Murrah building under the intimate direction of a high-level FBI official, according to McVeigh’s co-conspirator Terry Nichols, a claim voluminously backed up by a plethora of evidence that has been presented in court on several occasions.The SPLC fear-mongering machine has long claimed the patriot movement is associated with white supremacists and militias and may engage in violence. In fact, there is plenty of evidence that the SPLC itself has enabled the miniscule and completely irrelevant white supremacist movement in order to magnify the ludicrous threat they claim these fringe groups pose.In 2004, a declassified FBI memo obtained by an Oklahoma newspaper revealed that the SPLC had operatives inside the Identity settlement in Elohim City, Oklahoma. References to an informant working for the SPLC at Elohim City on the eve of the Oklahoma City bombing raises serious questions as to what the SPLC might know about McVeigh’s activities during the final hours before the fuse was lit in Oklahoma City – but which the SPLC has failed to disclose publicly,the Daily Gazette reported.
Fifteen years after the Oklahoma City Bombing, the establishment is using the same tactics in an effort to make history repeat itself, by obsessing about the supposed extremist threat, which is clearly part of an attempt to prod and provocateur any potential nutcases out there into convincing themselves to become the next Timothy McVeigh, if not merely a prelude to the government itself using patsies to carry out an attack as they did with McVeigh.The salacious media storm surrounding Jihad Jane and the Hutaree militia is completely unjustified from an objective perspective and indeed, had these stories occurred when Bush was in office they wouldn’t have received one tenth of the attention.No matter whether such terror plots are genuine or contrived, they only get press coverage when they complement the targeting of whichever group the establishment is trying to demonize at that particular time.

Memorial Day for Israel's Fallen and Victims of Terrorism will end, as do other Jewish holidays, at nightfall, and the somber nature of the day will give way to the gaiety and festivities of Israel’s 62nd Independence Day. The transition between the days was explained by the late Rabbi Shlomo Goren, the first Chief Rabbi of the IDF and the man who set the date of Memorial Day. He said, We view the warriors who fall in battle as those who sprout forth life. The life of a nation grew out of this blood... This day must be more than mourning: We must remember, we must grieve, but it must [also] be a day of majesty and vision.Rabbi Goren explained, in a 1974 speech, how he came to set Memorial Day just before Independence Day: The merit of doing this fell in my lot.. We first thought of setting Memorial Day on Lag BaOmer, the day that historically symbolizes the Bar Kokhba war, and that which is still celebrated by Jewish children as the day of Jewish strength. We thought we could thus combine the heroism of our early ancestors with that of our own children in this generation. But doubts crept in: Would we not cause harm to the general significance, shrouded in mystery as it is, of that historic day?
One of the Fast Days, or during the Three Weeks in which we remember the destruction of Jerusalem and the Holy Temples, was then proposed [for Memorial Day]. But we could not accept the fact that the Memorial Day for the Fallen Soldiers would be solely a day of mourning. It was felt that this day must be more than that. We must remember, we must grieve, but not only that - it must [also] be a day of... majesty and vision. We realized, therefore, that we could not assign this day to any existing holiday. But the first Independence Day was rapidly approaching [and we had not yet set a date to memorialize our fallen], and so we did what we did - without announcing it formally and without setting any specific format for the day. I went to Voice of Israel studios on the day before Independence Day, and read aloud the Chief of Staff’s Daily Military Order [including an announcement of memorial for the fallen soldiers], which he wrote according to my request. And so I became the narrator and the one who set Memorial Day on what became its date.Both Memorial Day and Independence Day are commemorated one day later than usual this year, by order of the Chief Rabbinate, in order to prevent the Sabbath desecration that would have resulted from having Memorial Day begin on Saturday night.
History of the Fallen
The 1948-49 War of Independence was Israel's costliest war, with more than 6,000 dead - 1% of the Jewish population at the time - and 15,000 wounded. The war consisted of 39 separate operations, fought from the borders of Lebanon to the Sinai Peninsula and Eilat.Then followed seven years of relative quiet - during which there were "1,339 cases of armed clashes with Egyptian armed forces, 435 cases of incursion from Egyptian-controlled territory, and 172 cases of sabotage perpetrated by Egyptian military units and fedayeen [terrorists] in Israel,in which 101 Israelis were killed, as Israeli Ambassador to the UN Abba Eban explained to the Security Council on October 30, 1956. Eban gave these statistics the day after Israel began the Sinai Campaign - its military response to Egypt's violation of international agreements by sealing off the Israeli port of Eilat, effectively stopping Israel's sea trade with much of Africa and the Far East. A total of 231 Israeli soldiers died in the Sinai Campaign fighting. In March 1957, after receiving international guarantees that Israel's vital waterways would remain open, Israel withdrew from the Sinai and Gaza - yet the Egyptians still refused to open the Suez Canal to Israeli shipping.The Six-Day War broke out on June 5, 1967. Along with the stunning victories, over 770 Israelis were killed. Then began the period of the War of Attrition, which claimed 424 soldiers and more than 100 civilians. A ceasefire was declared on August 8, 1970. Egypt and Syria attacked Israel on Yom Kippur, 1973. The IDF ultimately emerged victorious, but a total of 2,688 soldiers were killed in the Yom Kippur War.
In June 1982, in response to continued terrorist attacks and Katyusha shellings from across the Lebanese border, as well as an assassination attempt upon Israel's late Ambassador to Great Britain Shlomo Argov, Israel attacked the terrorists in Lebanon in what was known as Operation Peace for Galilee. Close to 460 soldiers were killed between June and December 1982, and another 760 in daily ambushes against Israeli forces over the next two and a half years. Between December 1987, when the first Arab intifada broke out, and the signing of the Oslo Accords in late 1993, 90 Israelis were murdered. Between the Oslo signing and the beginning of what became known as the Oslo War in September, 2000, 251 Israelis were murdered by terrorists.

Those who were stuck in Brussels anyway can make it. But some of them have to take three flights to get there, Marjory van den Broeke, the EU parliament's spokeswoman told EUobserver on Sunday evening.At least one third of the parliament's 736 deputies have to be present in plenary for a vote to be legally valid. Some MEPs were unable to fly home from the EU capital last week when ash from a volcano in Iceland grounded flights across Europe. But many others are now stuck in their constituencies.EU officials have been asked to make the trip from Brussels to Strasbourg anyway. The heads of the parliament's political groups will then meet in the French city to decide what to do.If there are not enough MEPs, options include formally opening the session and then immediately closing it, sending everyone home; holding debates only but not votes, which could take place later; having no debates or votes but ploughing through the rest of the schedule.
Ms van den Broeke said the situation has restarted chatter about the folly of having multiple seats for the EU parliament, an obligation under the EU treaty.It has also led to jokes at MEPs' expense. The Brussels-based air traffic body, Eurocontrol, on Sunday evening said that 19,000 out of 24,000 flights were cancelled on the day, with airspace partly or fully closed in 17 EU countries. It predicted positive evolution in the coming days and said isolated pockets of upper airspace are becoming ash-free.

Finance ministers cautious over budget proposals

EU finance ministers meeting in Madrid over the weekend (16-18 April) expressed caution regarding upcoming European Commission proposals on greater budgetary surveillance. Under the plans, to be presented in full on 12 May, euro area member states and the commission would engage in a system of peer review so that national budgets would be subject to systematic and rigorous assessments,before then being passed on to national parliaments for approval, explained EU economy commissioner Olli Rehn.Remedial actions would then be taken if necessary, the Finnish politician told the gathering of European financial heavyweights, drawing support from Luxembourg's Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker.It makes sense to discuss among the finance ministers the broad lines of the budget before these budgets are introduced in the parliamentary procedure,said Mr Juncker, who chairs the monthly meetings of eurozone finance ministers.
A number of other member states were more cautious however, concerned that plans could erode national parliamentary control over domestic budgets. Joerg Asmussen, Germany's deputy finance minister, said it was quite clear that national budget authority has to remain unrestricted, although we are obviously subject to the rules of the Stability and Growth Pact.The pact, a system of rules limiting EU deficits to three percent, has been widely flouted by member states in recent years, leading to the current fiscal difficulties seen in several European countries, in particular Greece. Spanish finance minister Elena Salgado, whose country currently holds the EU's rotating presidency, was also muted in her support for the commission's budgetary proposals, again highlighting the need to preserve the role of national parliaments. They are not going to substitute the decisions made by national parliaments,she said.Nation states are complicated and budgets are complicated.
Bank levy
The creation of a bank levy that could create reserve funds for future bail-outs was also among the ideas discussed by the finance meeting, which included central bankers. The swathe of European bank rescues which followed the financial crisis, largely funded by the taxpayer, has lead to growing calls for the industry to stump up for some of the costs. The meeting's attendees failed to agree on a specific measure however, despite a broad consensus that the EU needs to find a better way to deal with aid to the banking sector. European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet said the idea of a bank levy called for prudent steps,while Mr Rehn said further discussion was needed. Ms Salgado warned that a level playing field at the international level would be required if the idea was to work, adding that the creation of an emergency cash reserve could lead to banks increasing their risky behaviour.
Bishop urges EU leaders to criticise Vatican stupidity

In an interview with EUobserver on Friday (16 April), Peter Moran, the Bishop of Aberdeen in Scotland, said the church's cover up of child abuse in Ireland 40 years ago was facilitated by an exaggerated deference toward the clergy.I would not like to think that there is any exaggerated deference by Christian leaders in Europe toward the church authorities today. To put it very simply, if the church says something that is wrong or stupid, even Christian leaders should have the courage to say: No. I disagree with that. You are wrong. That was a stupid thing to say.Bishop Moran was referring to a statement by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican's secretary of state, who earlier this month said that homosexuality, not clerical celibacy, is a cause of paedophilia.Cardinal Bertone's remark - a classic tenet of homophobia - followed revelations that the Catholic elite, including Pope Benedict XVI himself, had in the past protected paedophile priests from exposure, in an unfolding crisis for the Vatican's credibility.The leaders of the EU institutions, all three of whom are Christian democrats, have stayed silent on the subject despite calls by the Liberal group in the EU parliament for them to take a stand.
Bishop Moran said that delegates at a conclave of 21 bishops in Brussels last Friday under the auspices of Comece, a church body set up to analyse EU policy, were shocked to know that someone in Rome had said that this [paedophilia] is a problem of homosexuality.This kind of abuse is found in all parts of society - in families, in heterosexual situations, in homosexual situations. It is not attached to any of those.On the broader issue of paedophile priests, he said the church has turned a corner by apologising to victims, co-operating with civil authorities, excluding convicted abusers and scrutinising candidates for priesthood for signs of sexual deviance.Asked if EU leaders should put pressure on the Vatican to do more, he said: Perhaps it will satisfy some of the electorate of the EU if people see that they, speaking as Europe, are saying to the Catholic church: Please put your house in order.But the Catholic church will say: In the past, we made mistakes. We are sorry for them. We have already put our house in order.In terms of rebuilding trust with parishioners, Bishop Moran said it would be easy, but not helpful to point out that abusive priests were in a small minority. It [reconciliation] is a very difficult, a long path. We simply have to be even more true to our own principles. We have to be very careful about our priorities - the first among these is care and love for vulnerable people, the young and the vulnerable.

Returning to the question of whether clerical celibacy causes sexual dysfunction, including paedophilia, Bishop Moran added that perhaps now we will carry out a survey of that kind.The most comprehensive study to date into Roman Catholic child abuse was funded by the church and carried out by the City University of New York in 2004, covering the vast majority of US dioceses between 1950 and 2002. It found that most alleged offences were carried out by priests aged between 30 and 39 who had been ordained between 1950 and 1979, many of whom also had a drinking problem. Most victims were boys aged 11 to 14. Allegations concerned 2.7 percent of all priests and numbered 200 cases a year on average, with a peak in 1980.

Rivlin is a descendant of Rabbi Hillel Rivlin of Shklov (1758-1838), author of Kol HaTor and a close disciple of the Vilna Gaon, Rabbi Rivlin and a group of fellow pupils are credited with having revitalized the Ashkenazi community in the Land of Israel when they left Europe in the early 1800’s and made Aliyah. Another descendant of Rabbi Hillel, Yosef-Yoshe Rivlin, was one of the pioneering leaders of the departure from within the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem and the founding of the Nahalat Shivah quarter.Rivlin continues: Jerusalem appears to be regressing. There are separate neighborhoods, separate public transportation, separate shopping centers; separation between hareidim and secular, and between Jews and Arabs. After Holyland: Demands to Investigate Other Projects

In the wake of the bribery scandal surrounding the Holyland project in Jerusalem, civilians and local politicians are asking police to look into other projects approved from those suspected of taking bribes in the Holyland affair. Among the projects now under suspicion are the Jerusalem light rail train and the Assuta Bauhaus Village project in Tel Aviv.Jerusalem Councilwoman Yael Entebbe has sent a letter to Police National Fraud Unit head Ziva Agami, asking that the Jerusalem light rail project be investigated. Entebbe argues that approval for the light rail project was not logical at the time, and that the project has been given major financial backing for reasons that are not clear.The light rail has cost far more than it was supposed to, and has taken much longer than planned to build. Entebbe told Arutz Sheva's Hebrew news service that even if the cost and construction time had been as planned, the train was not the appropriate solution for Jerusalem's transportation problems. Jerusalem needs flexible forms of public transportation, such as buses, the routes of which can be changed based on changes in the city, she explained.One of the most suspicious points, Entebbe believes, is that the state has promised to ensure that the investors make money on the project. The state is committing to a very large number of passengers. If that number doesn't materialize, the state will pay the difference between the prediction and the actual demand,she said.The commitment could end up costing the state tens of millions of shekels per year, she said. The light rail project was approved at approximately the same time that the Holyland project won permits, allegedly through bribery, Entebbe notes. It could be, she says, that the same city officials who took bribes in the Holyland case did the same when it came to solving Jerusalem's transportation problems. During that period a lot of things got started that apparently were not entirely above board,she said.
Holyland Suspect Among Assuta Planners
Opponents of the Assuta Bauhaus Village project in Tel Aviv discovered this week that one of the project's first planners, architect Uri Sheetrit, was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the Holyland affair. They plan to ask the National Council for Planning and Construction to reexamine the Assuta project, and Sheetrit's involvement in particular.The Assuta project, a luxury housing development, faces opposition from neighbors and from the Israel Union for Environment Defense. Apartments in the planned development, which sell for as much as 59,000 shekels ($15,600) per square meter, have been purchased by Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Bank Leumi CEO Galia Maor, and Mizrahi-Tefahot CEO Eliezer Yones, among others. The Syrian Missile Crisis: Threat of War Very Real

18 April 2010: The threat of a regional war involving Syria, Lebanon, Hezbollah and Israel is more ominous today that it has been at any time since the end of the brief summer war of 2006. The hair-trigger this time involves the reported Syrian delivery of WMD-capable SS-1C Scud-B ballistic missiles or, according to anonymous Israeli sources the SS-1E Scud D,to the Shi’a terrorist organization Hezbollah in Lebanon.
On Tuesday, 13 April 2010, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak went public in confirming the stunning news that the governments of Syria and Lebanon were in blatant and deliberate violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 which brought a tenuous end to the Israel-Hezbollah war of July-August 2006. The bombshell news first reported by the Kuwaiti Al-Rai news agency was that Syria was in the process of transferring Scud ballistic missiles to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Item 8 of UNSCR 1701 called for no sales or supply of arms and related materiel to Lebanon except as authorized by its Government,and Item 14 called for the Government of Lebanon to secure its borders and other entry points to prevent the entry in Lebanon without its consent of arms or related materiel,and Item 15(a) which decided all States shall take the necessary measures to prevent, by their nationals or from their territories … The sale or supply to any entity or individual in Lebanon of arms and related materiel of all types, including weapons and ammunition, military vehicles and equipment, paramilitary equipment, and spare parts for the aforementioned, whether or not originating in their territories; and 15(b) The provision to any entity or individual in Lebanon of any technical training or assistance related to the provision, manufacture, maintenance or use of the items listed in subparagraph (a) above…With the reported transfer of Scud ballistic missiles and the training in Syria of Hezbollah troops on the operation and maintenance of these weapons Syria has been caught red-handed and in clear war-provoking violation of UNSCR 1701. The government of Lebanon shares in culpability due to its obvious complicity in the arming and training of Hezbollah’s forces due to its failure to control its national territory and borders. This is the most egregious violation of UNSCR 1701 to date, as evidenced by the wholesale re-arming of Hezbollah with even more advanced weapons (such as Syrian-made M-600 rockets and Russian-made Igla-S MANPADS) by Iran, Syria and possibly North Korea during the past 3 years and 7 months, and constitutes a rock-solid casus belli for Israel to immediately begin pre-emptively striking the missiles, and fixed targets related to the weapons transfer and associated training facilities in both Lebanon and Syria. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad bears the lion’s share of personal responsibility for provoking the threat of a regional war which could very rapidly escalate to a large-scale exchange of weapons of mass destruction in the Levant.
While rumors continue to circulate in major world capitals that the Syrian’s transferred top-of-the line SS-1E Scud-D (50 meter CEP) missiles to Hezbollah, no proof of has yet been made public to confirm the rumor. These missiles would give Hezbollah the capability ot act as a proxy for iran in launching a preemptive or retaliatory strike against Israel’s Dimona nuclear complex should Israel strike Iranian nuclear targets in the near term. Sans photographic or human intelligence proof of the Scud variant transferred to Hezbollah, my assessment is that Syria sent the SS-1C Scud-B variant to Hezbollah. Scud-Bs are 1960s-era missiles (obsolete for a modern army), and they would suit Hezbollah better because they’re very much a weapon of terror with a 900 meter CEP (Circular Error Probable). Scud-B can carry a thickened VX gas chemical warhead. As with a tossed grenade – close is good enough.
In either case, once Israel confirms Hezbollah’s possession of Scud missiles and their operational status vice a malicious ruse of inoperable missile shells, an imminent and series of strategic strikes by Israel would be virtually assured. Should these strike occur, as I believe they will, then this will likely become a war of widespread WMD use per Isaiah 17:4-11, followed by a rapid escalation into the fulfillment of Psalm 83, Joshua 13:1-7 and Zechariah 9.Today we should enjoy the calm before the storm, a storm which lies a hair’s breadth distance between the current relative calm and full-scale NBC warfare. America’s position in this war will determine the near-term fate of this Constitutional Republic per Genesis 12:3.

Lakin, whom we both recall refused orders to deploy to Afghanistan, cited lingering doubts over the constitutionality of Barack Obama’s presidency, and by extension, the legality of his orders to deploy. Before we get started, a word of advice: You should really skip the Humble Correspondent bit, your ego is enormous and dwarfed only by Obama’s.Your entire segment on Lakin was so laden with eye-rolls, snarky facial expressions and verbal sanctimony, your Body Language Expert, Tonya Reiman would have a field day dissecting it.My principal beef with you is your oft-repeated claim that you single-handedly debunked the alleged myth that Barack Obama was not born in the United States by digging up two public notices in Hawaii papers announcing the August, 1961 birth of little Barry and that these notices prove beyond doubt that Obama was born in the United States.You opined that Obama’s parents would have had to fake Barack Obama’s birth, cuz we’re gonna know he’s gonna be president and that Newspapers only print birth announcements when you call them and tell them Hey, your baby’s born.Well, perhaps next time you get the urge to be so sanctimonious on air, you might check your facts first, for those statements expose your second-grade reasoning and feeble command of this issue.
Contrary to the narrow way in which you’ve framed this debate, there is not one, but several theories percolating about Barack Obama’s citizenship, or lack thereof, ranging from his being born in Kenya to his being born in the US to parents who were ineligible to confer natural-born status upon him, as is required by Article II Section I of the US Constitution. The fact that he has put every single document under seal that would shed light on the subject except a computer-generated, Internet-proffered phony with no physician signature and no hospital of birth means that no one, including you, know what his status is.Let’s say for the sake of argument that his parents did fake those birth announcements. Your assertion that they would had to have known he was going to be president some day is completely irrelevant; a red herring. If he was born out of the country and they simply wanted to make him a citizen, all they would have had to do is sneak Barry into the US and then call the papers and tell them, as you said. Hey, the baby’s born.We’re talking about 1961. As you yourself admitted and the facts show, one didn’t need to prove a birth occurred, they only had to call their local paper and they would post the announcement. Therefore, Bill, those two announcements only prove that around the time of his alleged birthday in August, 1961, someone called the Hawaiian papers and submitted a birth announcement.You constantly misrepresent that the birther movement’s central argument is that Barack Obama wasn’t born in the US, while conveniently overlooking other key questions about the legal status of both parents at the time of his birth and the constitutional requirement of natural born citizenship.
Why are you and Beck so afraid of this issue? You claim to be such staunch conservative defenders of our Constitution, yet cower in fear of a ratings backlash over a constitutional requirement for the presidency that remains in dispute. Bill Clinton, the Southern Poverty Law Center and almost the entire corporate media are not letting a good opportunity go to waste today – by dancing on the graves of 168 victims and exploiting the 15th anniversary of the false flag Oklahoma City Bombing to demonize their political enemies, the Internet, and anyone who dares to express dissent against the federal government.The propaganda putsch coincides with FBI head Robert Mueller stating that right-wing extremist groups and anti-government militias now represent as big a terror threat as Al-Qaeda, as the whole apparatus of the war on terror is shifted to target Americans increasingly angry at the egregious corruption in government and the global economy as their standard of living plummets and their pension funds are under threat of seizure.It also dovetails President Obama’s hyping last week of the threat posed by individuals acquiring nuclear weapons, a claim top nuclear experts like Henry Sokolski have derided as overstated and not based on any new intelligence.Obama’s warning arrives shortly after FEMA was forced to scale back a simulated nuclear bomb attack by terrorists in Las Vegas that was set to involve 10,000 emergency responders, U.S. troops and officials in role playing exercises.Former President Bill Clinton told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Friday that he is worried rising anger at the federal government could lead to another OKC bombing, implying that people who use the Internet to express dissent will be to blame for the violence.
Clinton’s exploitation of the Oklahoma City bombing anniversary is being parroted across the establishment media as if it’s just a year or two since the attack on the Alfred P. Murrah building. Clearly, such intense coverage of an incident that took place fifteen years ago is being done to keep the heat on the millions of Americans who distrust the federal government in the continuing effort to portray them as domestic terrorists.A key facet of this PR campaign is to reinforce the official story behind the Oklahoma City Bombing, that the attack was carried out by right-wing anti-government extremists and a similar tragedy could strike again unless the Internet is censored and Constitutionalists, tea party members, libertarians and anyone who expresses dissent are harassed and have their free speech revoked.The top story on the SPLC’s website today also invokes the OKC bombing as a lesson through which to refocus attention on right-wing extremists.April 19 marks the 15th anniversary of the bombing of a federal building in Oklahoma City – the worst single act of domestic terrorism in our nation’s history and a grim reminder of the fruits of right-wing radicalism. The anniversary comes as the antigovernment militia movement is experiencing a resurgence,states the SPLC website.There can be little doubt that the American people are being manipulated to accept the inevitability that right-wing militias and lone wolf extremists are preparing another attack, and that the culprit for the violence will be talk radio, the Internet, and the widespread dissent now being displayed against the federal government.Don’t be surprised if the feds activate their networks of paid provocateurs and stooges to stage yet another false flag attack that will be used to silence the free speech of the government’s most prominent critics.
As part of this propaganda effort, MSNBC will today air The McVeigh Tapes: Confessions of an American Terrorist, where viewers will hear for the first time Timothy McVeigh admitting that he carried out the attack. What they won’t hear is McVeigh admitting, as he explained in a letter to his sister prior to the attack, that he was working at the behest of the federal government when he detonated the bomb that tore apart the Alfred P. Murrah building.In a Oct. 20 letter, McVeigh wrote his sister that he and nine other soldiers had been taken to a private intelligence briefing at Fort Bragg, where they were told they could be required to participate in government-sanctioned assassinations and government-sponsored drug trafficking,reported the New York Times on July 1 1998.In reality, as anyone who has done five minutes research into the OKC bombing will understand, the official story crumbles on the merest hint of casual examination.While the media, the SPLC, the ADL and similar organizations are happy to play the Timothy McVeigh card over and over again, they are less enthusiastic to mention the fact that McVeigh planned his deadly assault on the Alfred P. Murrah building under the intimate direction of a high-level FBI official, according to McVeigh’s co-conspirator Terry Nichols, a claim voluminously backed up by a plethora of evidence that has been presented in court on several occasions.The SPLC fear-mongering machine has long claimed the patriot movement is associated with white supremacists and militias and may engage in violence. In fact, there is plenty of evidence that the SPLC itself has enabled the miniscule and completely irrelevant white supremacist movement in order to magnify the ludicrous threat they claim these fringe groups pose.In 2004, a declassified FBI memo obtained by an Oklahoma newspaper revealed that the SPLC had operatives inside the Identity settlement in Elohim City, Oklahoma. References to an informant working for the SPLC at Elohim City on the eve of the Oklahoma City bombing raises serious questions as to what the SPLC might know about McVeigh’s activities during the final hours before the fuse was lit in Oklahoma City – but which the SPLC has failed to disclose publicly,the Daily Gazette reported.
Fifteen years after the Oklahoma City Bombing, the establishment is using the same tactics in an effort to make history repeat itself, by obsessing about the supposed extremist threat, which is clearly part of an attempt to prod and provocateur any potential nutcases out there into convincing themselves to become the next Timothy McVeigh, if not merely a prelude to the government itself using patsies to carry out an attack as they did with McVeigh.The salacious media storm surrounding Jihad Jane and the Hutaree militia is completely unjustified from an objective perspective and indeed, had these stories occurred when Bush was in office they wouldn’t have received one tenth of the attention.No matter whether such terror plots are genuine or contrived, they only get press coverage when they complement the targeting of whichever group the establishment is trying to demonize at that particular time.
Consider the case of Joel Henry Hinrichs III, a young white man who killed himself on October 1 2005 when he detonated a suicide bomb on the University of Oklahoma (OU) main campus just 200 yards west of Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, where 84,501 spectators were attending a football game.This happened a few months after the 7/7 London bombings, which were blamed on radicalized Muslim terrorists. Merely because the media at that time was obsessed with demonizing Muslims as terrorists, the story received next to no attention. Imagine if a white American were to blow himself up in Oklahoma in 2010, do you think the media would be interested? The establishment only plays up terror plots when they feed into the agenda they are pursuing, which is a pretty big clue as to who is behind provocateuring such incidents in the first place.While hyping the deadly threat posed by violent right-wing extremists, the government itself is paying people to pose as right-wing extremists and make violent threats.Remember, it was the feds, paid for with your tax dollars, who directed phony right-wing radio host Hal Turner to make death threats against federal judges in Illinois and lawmakers in Connecticut.The supposed white supremacist worked for the agency from 2002 until 2007.His job was basically to publish information which would cause other parties to act in a manner which would lead to their arrest, Michael Orozco told the Associated Press.
