EU DEFENCE NOISES OFF

AMBASSADOR GILLERMAN'S FINAL SPEECH TO THE U.N. SECURITY COUNCIL As reported by Gil Ronen, Arutz Sheva, Wednesday 23 July 2008

Israel's outgoing Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Gillerman, gave his last speech Tuesday to the U.N. Security Council. Referring to Jerusalem's second tractor terror attack in three weeks, which occurred just hours before his speech, he said that when the first tractor attack occurred, people said the driver was a madman. It now is clear, he added, that the problem was not a solitary madman but rather a phenomenon.Gillerman had prepared a written speech but told the ambassadors that he decided to speak from his heart instead. This is most probably my last appearance before you as the representative of the State of Israel, he said. I would like to thank each and every one of you for the time you have spent on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and our problems. He emphasized that whatever happens, whatever you discuss, whatever transpires - Israel will prevail.

Most of the Horror is Within Islam
Gillerman went on to say that the world was not dealing with a clash of civilizations, but rather with a clash of civilization, in the singular - within Islam. Most of the horror, most of the bloodshed, most of the killings, and most of the violence... is sadly and tragically within Islam, he said. Not only are the majority of terrorists Muslim, he noted, but also the majority of terror victims around the world. The Ambassador said he was most concerned about the eerie silence of the Muslim world in the face of terrorism, and expressed his hope to see a Muslim leader emerge who would say enough is enough, what are we doing? I hope very much that the Arab and Muslim world will realize that it is its duty and responsibility today, in that very clash, to support the moderates and isolate the extremists, he added.

Imagine...
Gillerman extended an invitation to all those present to visit Israel. You will see a country which is very different from the perception you get on TV, where you see a country torn by violence and bloodshed... You will discover a vibrant county, of great excellence and innovation, in making the desert bloom, in agriculture, science and medicine, he said. You will see a country which is contributing each and every day to mankind and to humanity, not just to itself and to the Jewish people, and making the world a better place. You will not understand the essence of Israel until you feel it and smell it, he said.He asked his colleagues to imagine, for one moment, what it is like to be an Israeli.

Boarding a Bus with Fear
He asked them to picture a grandfather like me who sometimes goes to the kindergarten to pick up my granddaughter and whose heart breaks when he sees an armed guard at the entrance to the kindergarten.Imagine what it is like, he said, to board a bus and look to the side in fear, or to sit in a coffee shop in Jerusalem. Sitting in a coffee house in Paris, Moscow and New York, costs a few dollars. Sitting in a coffee house in Jerusalem could cost many lives, he said.Gillerman asked those present to imagine a bulldozer driving down Fifth Avenue or the Champs Elysees and crushing cars... I have been here for almost six years. Occasionally I have been accused of over-reaction and dramatization. If you visit Israel or just imagine what happens in it, you will understand. When you speak about the situation in the Middle East, you will think about what we deal with every single day.

[Comment] European defence: Noises off
NICK WITNEY 29.07.2008 @ 07:14 CET

EUOBSERVER / COMMENT - How gratifying for Europeans listening to Barack Obama's speech in Berlin's Tiergarten to hear him affirm that America has no better partner than Europe, and to talk of how allies must listen to each other, learn from each other and, most of all, trust each other. And how unsettling to hear him talk also of the need for shared sacrifice, and to assert that The Afghan people need our troops and your troops; our support and your support to defeat the Taliban, and al Qaeda. The next American President, whether Democrat or Republican, will be politer to Europeans than the current incumbent; but he will also be more demanding – and harder to fob off.Seventy percent of Europe’s land forces simply cannot operate outside national territory (Photo: MONUC Photo/Romain Desclous)

For the EU's new French Presidency, with their priority of boosting l'Europe de la Defense, these noises off can only be encouraging. And they will need all the encouragement they can get. For the European defence enterprise, launched at the famous Franco-British summit at St Malo nearly ten years ago, has in truth made depressingly little progress. 20 EU crisis-management operations to date sounds like a lot. But three-quarters of them have involved deployment of policemen or legal experts, not troops; half have comprised less than 100 personnel; and four of the five main military interventions, in Macedonia, Congo (twice) and Bosnia, have ridden on the coat-tails of either UN or NATO peace-keepers.

Meanwhile, efforts to make Europe's militaries fit for purpose – the purpose in today's world being expeditionary, multinational operations, not stopping invaders at the national frontier – have been even less productive. The original vision of a 60,000-strong rapid reaction force has been quietly shelved, in favour of 1,500-man battlegroups. 70% of Europe's land forces simply cannot operate outside national territory. Europe's 10,000 main battle tanks would be fine for a re-run of the battle of Kursk, but are little use in Chad or Afghanistan. Figures such as these highlight the extent to which Europeans' combined annual defence spending in Europe of some 200 billion euros is simply money down the drain.

No need for increases in defence spending

From the decade of wasted opportunity, however, some important truths can be distilled. First, there is no need for (unattainable) increases in defence spending – the money just needs to be spent on the right things, like support helicopters.Second, Europeans have no choice but to pool their efforts and resources; even the UK and France have had to accept that increased mutual reliance is the only way either can hope to make their defence books balance.Third, points one and two are, for defence establishments, profoundly counter-cultural. They hate change (their rationale, after all, is to protect the status quo), and they hate depending on others. So both ditching those tanks, and cooperating with others on the next generation of combat radio, will require external pressure. Fourth, Europeans are a heterogeneous lot, and efforts to develop European defence need to recognise and accommodate this diversity.

A multi-speed Europe

This last point is especially relevant in the aftermath of the Irish No to the Lisbon Treaty. For some, this latest failure to get 27 runners and riders into the starting gates at the same time has only confirmed the need to accept a multi-speed Europe.Whether or not this is true for the future of the Union as a whole, there is no room for dispute in defence – multi-speed is the reality, and will remain so as long as 27 Member States reserve the right to set their own defence policies, and take their own decisions about sending their young men and women into danger (as of course they all do – despite the EuroArmy fantasy). So the model for European defence has to be variable geometry – some Member States pooling their efforts on defence research, others setting up joint air transport commands, and so on – each according to national interest and aptitude. This approach – the concept of the pioneer group – appears in the Lisbon Treaty in the provisions on permanent structured cooperation. But, with Lisbon in baulk for the foreseeable future, the principles should be introduced as far and as fast as possible into the existing practices and institutions of European defence – most obviously, into the workings of the European Defence Agency.

EU Operational Headquarters in Brussels

Beyond that, the Presidency's agenda looks to be much on the right lines. The chronic problems over mounting and running ESDP operations need urgent attention. There needs to be a better shared understanding of where and when European interests and values may require interventions – and a greater readiness to share the burden, both through cost-sharing and through more member states keeping more of the right kind of units on stand-by.It is high time, too, for the much-discussed European civilian reserve corps to become a reality. And the current improvisations for the planning and conduct of operations must be replaced by a proper EU Operational Headquarters in Brussels, in which military and civilian staffs are fully integrated. The EU's claim to be uniquely capable of blending hard and soft power in crisis management will remain hollow as long as civilian and military operations are quite separately handled at the strategic level of command, as is the case today. On capabilities – the tools to do the job – the effort to get Member States to focus on the real, as opposed to the convenient, deficiencies must be pursued. At long last specific action is underway to make more support helicopters available – it is time that equally urgent attention was given to rationalising the plethora of incompatible national communications systems that bedevil all operations. This is a top priority for NGOs operating in crisis areas, too.Mainly, though, the way forward has to be a hard slog to get Member States to pool their efforts and resources – all the way from the research laboratory, through equipment procurement programmes, to joint forces. The European Defence Agency was set up precisely to catalyse such co-operations – it makes no sense to cap its staff numbers at a mere 100. Heads of government need to lend a hand, and encourage defence establishments to do what does not come naturally to them by attaching strings to defence budgets – spend it jointly, or lose it.And the same goes for the defence industry – consolidation needs to be re-energised, especially in the land- and sea-systems sectors, by summit meetings of defence industrial chiefs and government ministers.

Such an agenda would be readily achievable, if only the British would join hands with the French in pushing it. But 2008 is not 1998; and the glad confident morning of the New Labour government has declined into an apprehensive evening.Time, then, to pay attention to the noises off – and to reflect that it is not just Europe's role in the world, or the security of Europe's citizens, that depend on a stronger European defence – it is also the health of the transatlantic security relationship. The CARMEL ALERT July 25th 2008
A compilation of news reports from the past week for the information of those committed to praying
for Israel and the salvation of the Jewish people.

The Out of Zion Ministries team is expanding. We have added two Israel Messianic believers to the apostolic team, Dena Gewanter and Scott Baker. This week we are introducing Dena ....... Dena has written this weeks comment, which Josie & I believe has had revelation
as to why Israel seems to be always bowing down to our enemies fro more details www.out-of-zion.com/ofzemissaries.htm

Dena Gewanter was raised in the Northeast United States in a conservative Jewish family. Her grandparents emigrated from eastern Europe before World War ll, but there were still some who remained and lost their lives during the holocaust. After searching for spiritual enlightenment in many of the occult practices popular in the '60's, she had a miraculous encounter with Yeshua, and received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit at age 16, having had no previous knowledge or connection with the Christian faith. She never lost her identity as a Jew, and made Aliyah to Israel in 2005. She is a physician and has a grown son who lives in California. Her heart is to reach out to the Church and reveal the Biblical truths of God's purposes for Israel and the Jewish people, as well as His Divine plan to connect Jew and Gentile in these last days.

Guest Comment: Does Israel Suffer From Battered Woman Syndrome? by Dena Gewanter

Those of us who love Israel and believe that the covenant promises of God state that Israel belongs to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob find ourselves frustrated with the Israeli government's current policies. There were unprecedented public protests and an outpouring of disapproval from religious leaders around the world when the Gaza Strip was given over to the Palestinians in a land for peace deal. It is inconceivable that anyone today would say that this was anything but an unmitigated disaster. Prior to the disengagement, thousands of greenhouses in that small area produced massive quantities of flowers, fruits and vegetables for import and export, as well as employing thousands of Arab laborers to work in the maintenance and distribution of the produce. It was a small area, formerly desert land, that truly brought to life the scripture in Isaiah 27:6: In the days to come, Jacob will take root, Israel will bud and blossom and fill all the world with fruit. The sheer tonnage of produce coming out of that small area of land was nothing short of miraculous.

Now, the Gaza strip has not only become a barren and polluted wasteland, it is the source of thousands of rockets that are sent into the southern borders of Israel, and is home to lawless terrorists who no t only have the destruction of the 'Zionist Entity' in their constitution, but are persecuting the remaining Christians and implementing Sharia Law. Even more distressing is that the 8,000 plus Jewish inhabitants who were expelled remain to this day without permanent housing and adequate compensation for their losses. They as a people group have been abandoned by this government; there have been divorces, suicides and teen violence among communities that previously were productive and happy members of Israeli society. As if this weren't a good lesson for the government to learn from, we now hear that Judea and Samaria (the 'West Bank') is to be handed over to a group of people who have the same plans for the destruction of Israel. This time, there will be over 250,000 more refugees, with no plan as to where they will live or how they will support themselves. When the government still hasn't fulfilled it's promises to the 8,000 refugees of Gaza, what makes anyone think it will be any different for the inhabitants of Judea and Samaria?

Anyone who gets emails that are pro-Israel have received the lists of all the academic, scientific and cultural accomplishments of the Jewish people over the centuries; over 80 Nobel prizes, major medical breakthroughs and the like. My question, as a member of the Jewish race is: If we are so smart, WHY ARE WE SO STUPID?? Everyone knows the adage that stupidity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that giving away land to a people group committed to violence and destruction will only result in... violence and destruction! So, why is Israel again poised make the same horrific mistake?

During my training as a physician at Boston City Hospital, I worked with many poor and underprivileged people, and had a clinic for drug addicts and the homeless. I became accustomed to seeing women in the emergency room with lacerations and bruises that they could not explain, but had obviously been inflicted upon them by their partners. Astonishingly, these women would get their broken bones casted, their lacerations sutured, and then return home with the batterer!! It was always shocking for me to discover that generally, no amount of begging and pleading would separate these women from the violent men who injured them. After residency, it once took me over 6 years to convince a woman to leave her battering husband, and that was only after he threw their son down a flight of stairs, and then accused the son of attacking him!

I made a point of studying the psychological makeup of the women who allowed themselves to be battered and a lso of the men who did it. One day, after reading yet more depressing news about Gaza and the possible abandonment of Judea and Samaria, I realized with a shock that there was an uncanny similarity between the passive complicity of the battered woman and Israel, as well as an exact correlation with the psychological makeup of a batterer and the Palestinians who are actively trying to destroy the State of Israel. I believe that the Israeli public and many in the government exhibit this syndrome and that this explains why we are AGAIN discussing giving land away to a violent neighbor.

A battered woman has endured years and years of psychological abuse. She is always told that it is her fault she is battered because she never does what the man asks her to do. If she does do what he wants, there is invariably something else that she neglected to do that requires yet another beating to teach her a lesson. She is always isolated from family and friends who usually receive distorted information about her faults and deficiencies from the batterer. She has constant threats against her children, economic pressure and intimidation. The batterer convinces her that if she does what he wants, the violence will stop, and after years of intimidation, she believes him, even though he never does stop. Since she often can't get away, giving in is the only alternative. Often the community at large believes the man's version of why there are problems and ostracizes the woman if she blames the man. The violence escalates slowly so that people on the outside get accustomed to it. The fear that the violence will worsen if she does anything to defend herself, along with the fact that she has no societal support keeps her constantly trying to appease her batterer; she thinks if she does what
he wants, she will be able to live in peace and stop being battered. Battered women have learned helplessness, denial, guilt, false hope, unfounded optimism and plain and simple exhaustion. Does this sound eerily like Israel?

Let's now examine the attributes of a batterer. This is always a chronic group of offenders who continually deny they are violent and always blame their partners. They take no responsibility for their behavior and often exhibit no outward remorse for the pain and suffering they cause. They divide and conquer by running disinformation campaigns. They are always convinced that they are the victim, not the woman. They often placate and enlist as allies anyone who is aligned or associated with the woman, thus convincing them that he does not need to be monitored, and thereby giving him freedom to batter in secret. Sometimes they use violent anger to repel those w ho are trying to help and successfully scare them away. Constant intimidation also can wear down those who are trying to intervene, until eventually they give up. They are always discrediting and minimizing the veracity and seriousness of the complaints of the woman. They always deny that they have used the threat of hurting the children or removing financial security as a way to manipulate the woman, and make it look like it is her fault that he has to behave the way he does. If you are well informed of the crafty media campaign of the Palestinians, this is an accurate portrayal of how they present Israel and their position to the world.

In my opinion, the emotional makeup of many of the residents of Israel is that of a battered woman. We have been told that this Palestinian problem is our fault for so many years we are beginning to believe it. Israel has battle fatigue; we are just plain worn down by years of abuse; perhaps if we just give them what they want, they will leave us alone. We are tired of the negative world opinion. We are sick of having our children threatened and hurt; we'll do anything to achieve peace.

On the other side, the Palestinians successfully portray themselves as the victim; They wanted Gaza, they got it, but now all the problems there are Israel's fault! No one has any sense of outrage that they have become a welfare state of Israel; they have the world crying over their suffering. They bomb checkpoints, but then blame Israel for not sending in supplies through the very roads that are targeted by terrorists. The world wrings it's hands in sympathy over the plight of the Palestinians, but says nothing about the terror of the innocent people being bombarded day after day in Sderot. The continual escalation of violence has numbed the world to it's presence. The thousands of bombs raining down into sovereign Israeli territory doesn't even merit a news report! The Palestinians take no responsibility for any of the problems whatsoever, and keep asking for more and more aid and assistance, even though they have already received billions of dollars of aid, far more per capita than any other people group in the world! Who will speak the truth while the world believes these lies?

Dear friends, while everyone wants to think that the people of Israel are still those courageous warriors who fought successfully, with God's help, the battles of 1948 and 1967, we have become weakened in our resolve after years and years of being emotionally and physically battered! We desperately need to hear the voices and prayers of those who believe that this Land should remain a Jewish state rising up in our defense. Israel has been given the responsibility of fighting physically to defend our Biblical birthright. Please stand with us now not only in prayer, but also with letters and petitions to your leaders and politicians. Speak out when there are distorted newspaper and television reports about Israel. Be an ambassador for the truth in your neighborhood and workplace. Do not be lukewarm during this urgent time of Israel's need. Do not let the 'Accuser of the Brethren' succeed in his plan to divide and conquer this Land. (end)

The Lord bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on the land given to the Jewish people by the God of Israel Lets pray that Israel will turn back to their God. Do not be silent, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to. Lets also pray for that breakthrough to the Muslims, and please remember to pray for our son Jordan, and all of his fellow soldiers in the IDF.

Shabbat Shalom ... David & Josie

A MESSAGE OF HOPE FROM DR. JACK VAN IMPE AUG 1,08

In this newsletter we will deal with the subject: The Power of the Holy Spirit.

Believers are powerless and ineffective in their daily lives because they do not partake of the vast storehouse of power that is available to them in the person of the Holy Spirit. As a result, they depend upon personality traits and psychological manipulations rather than the power of God. They forget that God says in Zechariah 4:6: . . . Not by [human] might, nor by [human] power, but by my spirit . . . . Man, with all of his reliance on tricks, gimmicks, and manifold activities, could accomplish so much more if God, the Holy Spirit, originated, motivated, and activated the program. He alone supplies the power needed by powerless human beings. He alone is the match to ignite the fire, the fuel to propel the motor. A person cannot move without His assistance. Acts 1:8 states: . . . ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you . . . . Do you have this power? Or are you still serving God in the energy of the flesh? Just as there is a difference in cultivating a field with a shovel or with a tractor, so there is a mighty difference in one's service when empowered by the all-powerful Holy Spirit. May I also say that there is no power shortage in God's Spirit because:

The Holy Spirit is Omnipotent

The Holy Spirit manifested this power on numerous occasions:

A. At creation, this blessed Spirit was active because the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters (Genesis 1:2). Job 26:13 states: By his spirit [God] hath garnished the heavens . . . . Again, Psalm 104:30 declares that mankind, animals, birds of the air, fish of the sea and all other created objects came because thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created....

B. At the conception and birth of Christ, the Holy Spirit again displayed His power. The Bible teaches that Christ was an unembodied spirit in eternity past, for He was in the form of God (Philippians 2:6), and God is a Spirit (John 4:24). However, one of the members of the Trinity had to become embodied because God had decreed in the councils of eternity that the blood . . . maketh an atonement for the soul (Leviticus 17:11). Animal blood was only an inadequate temporary covering looking toward the planned, prepared, permanent sacrifice (I Peter 1:20). This eternal offering also had to be a sacrifice of blood. Man's blood was already poisoned through Adam's transgression (Romans 5:12). Therefore, since animal blood was inadequate and man's blood was tainted, the only solution was that a member of the Godhead should take a body containing blood. However, if this One were to come into the world through natural generation, the seed of a man deposited into the womb of a woman, the tainted blood would then be passed on to the newborn Christ. Thus God planned and prepared a body for His Son (Hebrews 10:5), which the Holy Spirit miraculously placed in the womb of the virgin, and the result was the incarnation -God in the flesh, with sinless blood. That is why I Peter 1:19 declares that we are redeemed with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

Perhaps this information may help some seeking soul see why the entire program of redemption and salvation stands or falls upon the foundation of the virgin birth. The blessed, all-powerful Holy Spirit was the agent in carrying out this miracle of the ages. The story is unfolded in Luke chapter one. The angel appears to Mary and says: . . . thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. Mary, in her astonished frame of mind, replies: How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? The word know in Scripture often refers to the sex act. For instance, Genesis 4:1 says: And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived . . . . So Mary is actually saying, How shall I have a child when I have never known a man intimately? The angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God (verse 35). Oh, blessed be the wonder-working, omnipotent Holy Spirit who took the body and blood prepared by the Father and placed the Christ - the sent One - into the womb of the pure virgin.

C. Again, notice the power of the Holy Spirit in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. First Peter 3:18 declares: For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened [made alive] by the Spirit. Romans 8:11 also states: But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

We have thus far witnessed the power of the Holy Spirit in the work of creation, incarnation, and resurrection. We have discussed the unlimited power of the Holy Spirit for one primary reason: to show every child of God that this power is available in each believer's life.

Holy Spirit Power for Believers

. . . ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you . . . (Acts 1:8). This power is released in a Christian as the indwelling Holy Spirit is allowed to take full control. Do not misunderstand - every saved person has this Holy Spirit indwelling him . . . [we] have been all made to drink into one Spirit (I Corinthians 12:13). All means ALL. In fact, it is correct to say that it is impossible to be a child of God if one does not have the Holy Spirit, for if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his (Romans 8:9). Romans 5:5 says: . . . the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Who? A select few? No! . . . the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal (I Corinthians 12:7). One cannot have the manifestation of the Spirit without having Him, and this manifestation is given to every man who says: Jesus is the Lord (verse 3).

While it is true that every believer has the Holy Spirit (and has all of Him, for He does not enter in percentage portions), this does not guarantee that He has all of us. Therefore, subsequent to salvation, every believer needs the filling of the Spirit (also see Chapter 4). Ephesians 5:18,19 says:. . . be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. One evidence of the filling, then, is a heart overflowing with spiritual songs.

Another evidence is Holy Spirit power for witnessing . . . ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: [the result:] and ye shall be witnesses unto me. . . (Acts 1:8). Seek the power the apostles had to witness as they bore ridicule, hatred, persecution, and death for the Lord Jesus Christ. May I go one step further? I care not what you call your experience with the Holy Spirit. However, do not pray for the fulness of the Holy Ghost unless you are willing to become hated and even slaughtered for the name of Jesus. This is where the power of the Holy Spirit usually leads the sold out, dedicated, Spirit-filled Christian. Let's look at the Book of Acts for a moment and see.

Peter, after being filled with the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:4 (not baptized, which takes place at salvation, but filled, which is subsequent to salvation), becomes a power-laden giant for God. Earlier in his life - in fact, only 7 weeks earlier - he sat by a fire denying the Lord (Matthew 26). At that point in his life, he was a powerless witness. After he allowed the Holy Spirit to take full control and possession of his body, he became a one-man army for the Saviour. Please notice that the texts to be quoted mention boldness and power as the results of the filling of the Spirit. These two attributes, which the indwelling Spirit generates in the believer when He is allowed to have control, cannot be easily duplicated in the flesh. Boldness and power in the face of persecution and death can only be produced by the blessed Spirit of God.

The Boldness of Peter

First, let's consider the boldness of the Apostle Peter. Acts 4 states: Then Peter, filled [filled - not baptized, but filled] with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel . . . Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This [Christ] is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved (verses 8, 10-12). Verse 13 states that these people saw the BOLDNESS of Peter and John. Imagine the high priest and his relatives and a great multitude of those who had put Christ to death gathered together as Peter denounces their sin publicly and declares that this Christ they killed is the only way of salvation! It takes Holy Spirit boldness to be uncompromising.

Are you seeking the fulness of the Holy Ghost for the same reason or because it is the popular thing to do?

This same crowd hated Peter's message and threatened Peter and John in verses 18-20: And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. That is boldness, my brother! Did they quit? No! Acts 4:33 states: . . . with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. In Acts 5:40-42 they are beaten for the sweet name of Jesus and guess what?. . . they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. Did it stop them? And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ. The only thing that stopped these Spirit-filled warriors was death. Beloved, to be filled with the Spirit is to die daily (Luke 9:23).

The Power of Paul

In Acts 9:17, Paul, too, was filled with the Spirit -not baptized, but filled. He was baptized by the Spirit at salvation, as all believers are (I Corinthians 12:13), and then filled as all believers should be (Ephesians 5:18). This filling prepared him for the Lord's plan: . . . I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake (Acts 9:16). Has anyone ever suffered as much as Jesus or Paul? This battle-scarred apostle enumerates his sufferings in II Corinthians 11:23-27: . . . in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; in journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; in weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

Why was he so hated? Because. . . he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God (Acts 19:8); because his preaching caused an uproar in the city (Acts 20:1); and because he called sin and sinners by name. In Acts 13:9,10 we see Paul filled - get the exact word -filled with the Spirit, setting his eyes on Elymas the sorcerer and saying: . . . thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? A Holy Spirit-filled life denounces sin in an uncompromising way. It also often brings death because they beheaded Saint Paul. Stephen also experienced the same in Acts 7:55 when he, being full of the Holy Ghost, BOLDLY exposed sin PUBLICLY and was murdered.

Friend, do you want to be filled with the Spirit? Think twice before asking Him to take full control of your life. It may cost you everything you have. However, it will be worth it all when we see Jesus. He said in Matthew 5:10-12: Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

FROM THE HEART OF DR. REXELLA VAN IMPE

Listen to the Birds

My husband, Jack, and I have a special fondness for birds. We enjoy seeing them fly, darting from tree to tree, soaring and wheeling about, riding the wind in joyous freedom.

And it's fun to watch them splash in a puddle or pool of water, bathing themselves and carefully preening their feathers.

We have two feeders and a drinking bowl in our backyard, and the birds have discovered this safe haven. Besides sparrows, cardinals, robins, blackbirds, and other small songbirds, we've seen crows, doves, mallard ducks, and even Canadian Geese in our yard. Sometimes there will be several different kinds of birds there all at the same time.

Jack and I love to watch them-and so does Finica, our cat. She sits by the sliding glass door and stares out at the birds. She gets so intense that her whiskers twitch! Now and then, a bird will land on the patio near the door, and Finica's eyes get so big. But we don't let her out for fear that her natural feline instincts might overpower her usually friendly disposition.

I especially enjoy listening to the birds. More than any other creature, it seems to me they have learned to serve the Lord with gladness: [and] come before his presence with singing (Psalm 100:2).

When God created the fowl of the air on the fifth day of creation, He gave them a song. And virtually all types of birds make some kind of joyful noise-it seems like they're always praising the Lord. I've seen them after a winter snowstorm, sitting on top of the feeders, thankfully chirping and singing because the food is there.

Jesus once referred to the sparrows, which many consider an ordinary little bird with no apparent value. But He, who values all His creatures, said not one of them falls to the ground without God noticing (see Matthew 10:29).

Luke records what the Lord said about the common crow. Consider the ravens; for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? (Luke 12:24).

Watching the birds and remembering what God has said about them has really been a blessing to Jack and me.

Lessons from the birds

There is much we can learn from our fine feathered friends. The Bible is filled with references to birds as symbols of what we humans ought to be or can do with God's help.

On the top of the pole where our American flag flies there often is the image of an eagle, symbol of strength and majesty. The Bible tells us that if we wait upon the Lord, He will give us strength to overcome every difficulty and to mount up on wings, as the eagle (see Isaiah 40:31).

Genesis 8 tells us that when the ark landed on solid ground after the great flood, Noah sent out a dove to see if the land was habitable. The dove found no place to light and returned to the ark. A week later, Noah sent the dove out again and it returned in the evening with an olive branch in its beak. So Noah knew it would soon be safe to go out into the unknown.

Of course, it is no accident that the dove is symbolic of the Holy Spirit who wings His way over the abyss of man's sinful past, bridged by the sacrificial ark of the cross of Christ, and leads all who will follow step by step into the Father's new beginning.

God used a common barnyard rooster to deal with the heart of Peter during the last days of Jesus' life. After Peter had boasted that he would stay close to the Lord no matter what happened or who turned against Him, Jesus told Peter that he would deny Him before the cock crowed the next morning.

The gospels tell the awful story of how Jesus was betrayed by Judas in the Garden of Gethsemane, then taken before Caiaphas the high priest to be sentenced to death. Warming himself by the fire at the edge of the angry mob, Peter was asked once, twice, three times if he knew or was a companion to this Jesus.

Once, twice, three times - with oaths - Peter denied knowing the Lord! And at that darkest hour, just before the dawn, a rooster crowed! Instantly Peter remembered his prideful boast and Jesus' prophetic words... and he wept bitterly.

Of course, we know Peter repented and went on to become a leader in proclaiming the message of Christ's death and Resurrection all across the known world.

Being fed by the birds

You may remember the story of how God used birds to answer the prayers of the Children of Israel. After wandering in the wilderness for many years and being fed on manna, the people cried out for meat. God caused coveys of quail to come near their camp until there was plenty to feed all the people.

The Old Testament tells of the Prophet Elijah being sent into the wilderness to wait beside the brook Cherith. Twice a day the Lord sent ravens to deliver his food. And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening (1 Kings 17:6).

Imagine depending on crows to deliver your breakfast and supper! I'm not sure I'd want to trust them with my food. But Elijah did...and he never went hungry.

Are birds good parents?

I'm certainly not an ornithological expert, but I've been impressed about the strong parental instinct birds seem to have. It's fascinating to watch them building a nest, gathering twigs, straw, string, and grass to fashion a fragile but sturdy place to lay their eggs.

In some species, both father and mother bird take turns sitting on the nest, keeping the eggs safe and warm. And once the little ones come out of the eggs, the parents feed the babies until they grow large enough to fly.

I've seen mother birds fiercely attack other birds, even animals, which prowled too close to their nest. In many instances, the mother seems willing to give her own life to protect her young.

During the time the baby birds are being incubated, then fed and cared for until they can fly away, nothing is more important to the mother bird. Her babies are the center of her life and the sole reason for her existence.

In our day, necessity sometimes forces both parents to work outside the home. Still, I can't help feeling there are lessons both fathers and mothers can learn about parenting from the example of the birds. Most of all, we must understand how precious the lives of our children really are, worth any sacrifice to protect and nurture in the fear and admonition of God.

Once for a lifetime

I'm impressed with the instinct of birds to be good, faithful partners. I've heard that some species, including the turtle dove, mate once for a lifetime. Once a male and female come together, they stay with their mate and remain faithful to each other until separated by death.

Oh, that these beautiful creatures could teach the men and women of America the lessons of fidelity and faithfulness. In a society where there are more divorces being granted than new marriages performed, surely we need to turn again to the example of these beautiful creatures for instruction in living as God intended.

Listen, my friend, to the voices of the little birds, and hear God speaking to you today. Observe the life-style and the joy of these beautiful creatures and learn anew of God's plan for your life.

Satellite telemissions

Ecclesiastes 10:20 says, For a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.

Did you know that, in the TV communications industry, the slang term for an orbiting communications satellite is... a bird! We'll beam this up to the bird, they say, and let it relay the signal to the other side of the world!

So the words of Solomon have become another fulfilled prophecy! For today a bird does indeed carry the voice of the gospel, and that which hath wings is proclaiming the matter of God's Word to the ends of the earth.

What an exciting day in which to be alive! And what a thrill it is for Jack and me to be partners with you in helping to carry out Christ's Great Commission to evangelize our world in this generation.

Shalom Stan, Ultra-Orthodox Jew walked into the house of an Israeli Evangelist: AUG 1,08 MESSIANIC BIBLE PROJECT

I first met him on the corner near my house in Ramot, Jerusalem, as I was coming back from the post office. The following week, Moshe knocked on my door and after I opened the door and invited him in, he turned around to make sure that no one was watching as he entered my house. I shared with him for a couple of hours reading to him from the Prophets in the Tanakh (Old Testament) and then he wanted me to read to him from the New Testament. He then asked for prayer, so I prayed for him in the Name of Yeshua! I find that the ultra-Orthodox who are open to the Gospel are more interested than secular Israelis because they know the Scriptures. Unfortunately they rarely read the teachings of the Prophets and that’s where Yeshua is revealed. But hey, that’s what we are here to do – share what the Prophets foretold about Yeshua, and show them how He fulfilled all of these prophecies. It is very important that the Prophecy Bible is finished so that we can give them out here to all the people in Israel.Reaching young Israelis: Svidka one of our outreach workers, is involved with the youth in the North of Israel. The number of young Israelis coming to the Lord is growing, he said. It’s lovely to see them ministering to one another, they are growing in the Lord as we teach them the Word of God. Today, things are very different; they are bold in sharing the Gospel with other teenagers. They know that their friends in school need to hear the truth and find true life. Helping the poor in Israel: This month we distributed funds to new immigrants in Haifa, Israel. One mother with her four small children aged three months to six years was overjoyed to receive financial aid and blessings in the name of Yeshua.

Make a difference for the Kingdom today!

Mediterranean Union summit ends
Mon, 14 Jul 2008 04:18:41

The first summit of the Europe and Mediterranean rim nations spearheaded by French President, Nicolas Sarkozy has ended in Paris. Six cooperation projects as well as the principles of how the Union for the Mediterranean would actually function were approved during Sunday's summit. Leaders from the 27 EU member-states along with 16 North African, Middle Eastern and Western Balkan countries agreed that a summit would take place every two years and that their foreign ministers would meet annually. The six cooperation projects approved comprise of de-pollution of the Mediterranean, the building of maritime and coastal land highways, the fight against disasters, a solar energy program, an EU-Mediterranean university and a business development initiative, Xinhua reported. However, the items over which the leaders failed to reach an agreement on were the seat of a secretariat, its financing, and the nationality of the secretary general which is expected to be decided by foreign ministers of the participating nations in November 2008. The Paris summit was also attended by the European Commission President, Jose Manuel Barroso, the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon as well as representatives from half a dozen international and regional organizations. Moderate Calif. quake a drill for the Big One By GILLIAN FLACCUS, Associated Press Writer Wed Jul 30, 6:37 AM ET

CHINO HILLS, Calif. - Despite shaking a large swath of Southern California, a magnitude-5.4 earthquake was not the Big One that scientists have long feared. Still, it rattled nerves, causing people to vow to step up their emergency preparations. The quake, which rocked the region from Los Angeles to San Diego on Tuesday, caused only limited damage and minor injuries, and served as a reminder of the seismic danger below sprawling freeways and subdivisions. The temblor's epicenter was located just outside Chino Hills, 29 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles in San Bernardino County, and it was felt as far east as Las Vegas. Dozens of aftershocks followed, the largest a magnitude-3.8.We were really fortunate this time, said Capt. Jeremy Ault of the Chino Valley Independent Fire District. It's a good opportunity to remember that we live in earthquake country. This is part of living in Southern California and we need to make sure we're prepared.Chino Hills was incorporated in 1991, so much of the construction is newer and built to modern safety standards, city spokeswoman Denise Cattern said. There were no reports of harm in the city of 80,000, she said, although cell phone service in the area was briefly disrupted.

We have all the latest building standards and that probably made a difference, she said. The magnitude-5.9 Whittier Narrows quake in 1987 was the last big shake centered in the region. Scientists were trying to determine which fault ruptured Tuesday, but they believe it is part of the same system of faults. The 1987 earthquake heavily damaged older buildings and houses in communities east of Los Angeles. As strongly as it was felt, Tuesday's quake was far less powerful than the deadly magnitude-6.7 Northridge earthquake that toppled bridges and buildings in 1994. That was the last damaging temblor in Southern California, though not the biggest. A 7.1 quake struck the desert in 1999.Derek Black, a 19-year-old personal trainer, said it was the first large earthquake he remembered despite living in the area since birth.Black said he was helping a client do pull-downs when the floor started to rumble. He grabbed onto a weight machine and turned toward the wall, which was covered in floor-to-ceiling mirrors. The mirrors were rippling all the way down, he said. Seeing it in the mirrors was what made me realize, Geez, this is huge.TVs suspended from the ceiling were swinging back and forth as people evacuated the gym. The mirrors buckled but didn't break, he said. The heaviest shaking was northwest of the epicenter near suburban Diamond Bar, said Thomas Heaton, director of the earthquake engineering and research laboratory at Caltech. He said all buildings constructed in the region since the 1930s should withstand the kind of shaking felt Tuesday. The earthquake had about 1 percent of the energy of the Northridge quake, he said.People have forgotten, I think, what earthquakes feel like, said Kate Hutton, a seismologist at Caltech. So I think we should probably look at it as an earthquake drill. The state Office of Emergency Services in Sacramento received scattered reports of minor infrastructure damage, including broken water mains and gas lines.I thank God there have not been any reports of serious injuries or damage to properties, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger told a televised press conference. People understandably are very nervous.

Minor structural damage was reported throughout Los Angeles, along with five minor injuries and people stuck in elevators, said City Councilwoman Wendy Greuel, serving as acting mayor. She said there was flooding in one department store. The jolt caused a fire but no injuries at a Southern California Edison electrical substation in La Habra, about 12 miles southwest of the epicenter, spokesman Paul Klein said. Damage there and to other equipment led to some power outages in Chino Hills, Chino, Diamond Bar and Pomona, he said. To prepare for the Big One, scientists and emergency planners in the fall will hold what is billed as the largest earthquake drill in the country. It will be based on a hypothetical magnitude-7.8 temblor. Earlier this year, scientists calculated that California faces a 99.7 percent chance of a magnitude-6.7 quake or larger in the next 30 years. Associated Press writers Alicia Chang, Robert Jablon, Thomas Watkins, John Rogers, Don Thompson, Michael Blood, Solvej Schou, Danny Pollock, Laura E. Davis and Noaki Schwartz contributed to this report.

Over 600,000 evacuated as tropical storm hits China: reports Tue Jul 29, 9:13 AM ET

SHANGHAI (AFP) - More than 600,000 people were evacuated as tropical storm Fung-wong made landfall on China's southeastern coast, state media reported Tuesday. The storm was downgraded from typhoon level as it hit Fujian province late Monday after slamming into Taiwan, where it had whipped up strong winds and unleashed heavy rains that left two people dead.No one was reported hurt in China, but state-run television channel CCTV broadcast images of people knee-deep in water on flooded roads, as heavy rain fell. The civil affairs ministry ordered officials in eight provinces to launch disaster relief work, preparing emergency shelters and supplies, Xinhua news agency reported.Shanghai officials closed all ferry stations on Tuesday due to the strong winds, saying they would reopen when conditions improved, Xinhua said.

Fujian authorities evacuated 274,300 people and told 52,300 fishing boats to return to port, the China Daily reported. Dozens of flights were also cancelled at the province's Fuzhou airport. In neighbouring Zhejiang, more than 338,000 people were evacuated and more than 27,600 fishing boats ordered back to shore, Xinhua said, citing emergency officials. In the hours before the storm landed, more than 205 millimetres (eight inches) of rain fell Monday in Fuqing city in Fujian province.Power was cut off in Fujian's Puxia county, where 15 electricity transmission lines and nearly 500 transformer stations were damaged, Xinhua said.Fung-wong, Cantonese for Phoenix, was moving north. It was expected to reach east China's Jiangxi province late Tuesday and remain there for about three days, Xinhua cited meteorologists as saying.

Taiwan mops up after typhoon Tue Jul 29, 4:17 AM ET

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Soldiers and Buddhist volunteers helped Taiwanese villagers clean up their homes Tuesday after a powerful typhoon churned through, killing at least two people and leaving a trail of flooded buildings, damaged orchards and caved-in roads. Typhoon Fung Wong hit Taiwan just before dawn Monday, packing winds of 105 miles (167 kilometers) per hour. It left the island, heading for the Chinese mainland, about nine hours later. In the neighboring Philippines, at least four people were killed and five were missing, including a 3-year-old girl and her mother, after Fung Wong skirted past the northern provinces on its way to Taiwan, officials said Tuesday. About 10,000 Filipinos were affected by the typhoon. In Taiwan, soldiers used shovels to remove ankle-deep mud from homes in villages in eastern Hualien county, where the typhoon made landfall.

In a briefing to President Ma Ying-jeou, Hualien County Chief Hsieh Shen-shan said agricultural damage to the county amounted to more than 160 million New Taiwan dollars ($5.3 million).Elsewhere in the county, he said, workers were repairing caved-in mountain roads that had blocked traffic in both directions. The storm dumped more than 33 inches (82 centimeters) of rain in Hualien, Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau said.Television stations reported that authorities were closely monitoring several bridges where supports sustained damage from Fung Wong and tropical storm Kalmaegi, which killed 19 people when it struck Taiwan earlier this month.Typhoons frequently hit Taiwan between July and September, often triggering flash floods and landslides in overly developed mountainous regions.

Residents evacuate northeast Missouri river valley By BETSY TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer Mon Jul 28, 4:03 PM ET

ST. LOUIS - Residents of about 30 homes in low-lying parts of the Salt River Valley have evacuated to avoid flooding from a northeast Missouri lake nearing capacity from recent rainfall, authorities said. Water was released Monday from the manmade Mark Twain Lake into the Salt River, which feeds into the Mississippi River.Park Ranger Mary Heitmeyer says it's protocol to release water from the lake to the river when it nears capacity. There's just no storage space. It's got to go, she said.Officials expected flooding below the Clarence Cannon Dam and nearby creeks as a result. They could not say when the floodwaters would arrive or how much flooding would occur. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers instructed boaters to remain at least 1,000 feet from the dam, Heitmeyer said. The roughly 18,600-acre Mark Twain Lake — about 120 miles northwest of St. Louis — was designed to help prevent flooding. The lake had a record water level of 638.2 feet above sea level Monday.

Tropical depression could form near Cape Verde Islands JULY 30,08

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A low-pressure system in the Atlantic Ocean approaching the Cape Verde Islands could become a tropical depression before moving over cooler waters on Thursday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said Wednesday afternoon. The system was moving to the northwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour and could cause heavy rain and gusty winds over the Cape Verde Islands later Wednesday and Thursday, the NHC said in its 2 p.m. EDT report. If the system strengthens into a tropical storm, with winds of 39 to 73mph, the NHC will name it Edouard. The weather models showed the system would reach the middle of the Atlantic Ocean in about five days.Energy traders, who watch for storms that could enter the Gulf of Mexico and threaten U.S. oil and gas production facilities, said it was too soon to say whether the system would threaten any land.

Commodities traders also watch storms that could hit agriculture crops like citrus and cotton in Florida and other states along the Gulf Coast to Texas.(Reporting by Scott DiSavino; Editing by Walter Bagley)

Fire near Yosemite park hurts tourist business By GARANCE BURKE, Associated Press Writer JULY 30,08

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. - Vendors along one of the main roads leading to Yosemite National Park this summer were finally seeing business turn around following a rock slide that kept tour buses away for the previous two years. That was before a massive wildfire closed the highway and sent towering plumes of smoke and ash over one of the nation's most celebrated wilderness areas. It's like we just get on our feet and they kick the stool out from under us, said Donna Santi, a gift shop clerk in Mariposa. Still, the business will survive. We're more worried about the residents. The fire raging since Friday has destroyed 21 homes and is only 20 percent contained. Fire officials previously said 25 homes burnt down, but revised their assessment Wednesday after discovering four of the structures were outbuildings.Visitors seeking to photograph Yosemite National Park's famed peaks instead took shots of monoliths obscured by flying ash blowing in from the wildfire burning just 12 miles outside the park. The haze has left one of California's most popular destinations shrouded in smoke at the height of Yosemite's busiest season. It's the views that are really disappointing, said Karen Brown, a 45-year-old mother of two from Phoenix. We do two major trips a year and this was one of them. It's not like we can shoot back here in a month.

Brown said her family was packing up a day early to avoid suffering from irritated eyes and sore throats. The children had been using their imaginations to experience Yosemite, she said, but ventured they would prefer clear views of Lake Tahoe.Visitors seeking to enter the park from the west were turned around Tuesday, when authorities temporarily shut down a 10-mile stretch of Highway 140 to keep flames from leaping across the Merced River canyon. The road reopened Wednesday, but officials were still recommending tourists take alternate routes into the park to give fire vehicles enough room to maneuver. The western gate itself remained open, as did other entrances to the park, and many travelers said they were gladly staying put.Patricio Aguirre, 48, visiting from Argentina, smiled as his wife and children marveled, through a white haze, at Half Dome's imposing shoulder. It's a great shame because we know what's burning now won't regenerate for many years, Aguirre said. My children laugh at me, but I tell them they have to see the good in this. It's not every day one can see Yosemite burn.Authorities said Tuesday the blaze had charred more than 50 square miles of steep, rugged terrain since a target shooter sparked the wildfire on Friday. It has also forced the evacuation of 350 homes in the towns of Midpines and Coulterville, gateway communities whose businesses rely on tourist dollars to stay afloat.Fire crews expected to get some help from a slight drop in temperatures, which were forecast to remain in the high 80s Wednesday, accompanied by low humidity and light winds, the National Weather Service said.

At summer's peak, as many as 4,000 visitors a day stream into the park, and rangers expect the fire will keep very few people away.

Officials with DNC Parks and Resorts at Yosemite, which manages restaurants and lodging in the park, said only about 2 percent of all overnight guests have asked for refunds since Saturday, when the transmission line that fed power to Yosemite was destroyed in the fire.Hotels, stores and most restaurants in the park have remained open, but have been operating on generators. We're seeing a few people departing maybe because they have health concerns about the air quality, but virtually everyone's staying in the park, said Kenny Karst, a spokesman for the concessionaire. Our main message is we're open. The stables are open, we've got river rafting, and we're leading all kinds of hikes and trips to the backcountry. In all, more than 2,000 blazes have scorched about 1,700square miles around California — mostly on national forest land — this year. In Montana, a 5,900-acre wildfire threatening the ski town of Red Lodge, 60 miles southwest of Billings, did not grow significantly overnight after air drops of retardant and water Tuesday. The blaze remained about eight miles outside town and two miles from the Red Lodge Mountain Resort. An evacuation order remains in effect for a 90-home subdivision, but residents were allowed to return temporarily Wednesday to check on homes and retrieve belongings. The fire started Saturday. The cause remained under investigation Wednesday.

16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.
19 From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.

Israeli prime minister to resign in September By MARK LAVIE, Associated Press Writer JULY 30,08

JERUSALEM - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announced Wednesday he will resign in September, throwing his country into political turmoil and raising doubts about progress for U.S.-backed Mideast peace efforts. Olmert's brief address included harsh criticism of police investigations of corruption allegations against him. He said he was choosing the public good over his personal justice. He has denied wrongdoing but pledged to resign if indicted.Olmert said he would not run in his party's primary election, set for Sept. 17, and would step down afterward in order to allow the chairman to be elected and form a different government quickly and efficiently.

His decision not to run in the Kadima Party primary sets in motion a process to choose a new prime minister. If Olmert's successor as party leader can form a coalition, Israel could have a new government in October. If not, an election campaign could take several months.

Israel's Olmert doubts full peace deal this year by Ron Bousso Mon Jul 28, 11:13 AM ET

JERUSALEM (AFP) - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Monday that Israel and the Palestinians will not be able to agree this year on a peace deal that includes the crucial issue of Jerusalem.

I don't believe that we can reach an understanding that will include Jerusalem by the end of the year, Olmert told parliament's powerful foreign affairs and defence committee, according to a senior official. He expressed optimism that the two sides could bridge their differences on other core issues in the decades-old conflict. But he seemed to rule out a comprehensive deal by year-end, despite a commitment made by the two sides at a conference hosted by US President George W. Bush in Annapolis, Maryland last November that revived peace talks. There is no practical possibility to reach an overall understanding on the issue of Jerusalem at this time, Olmert said. But there is an intention to create a mechanism that will continue to deal with the issue for a much longer period until we reach understandings that we can live with.In Washington, spokeswoman Dana Perino said the White House would continue to push for a deal by the end of the year.I think we've always said that we wouldn't be able to get a final peace deal in terms of everything being resolved, but we would have this way forward that would outline all the steps that they would have to take to move forward, Perino told reporters. It's now end of July, so we are continuing to push," she said, adding that she believed US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was due back in the region pretty soon.Israel captured mostly Arab east Jerusalem -- including the Old City with its holy sites sacred to Christians, Muslims, and Jews -- in the 1967 war and annexed it shortly afterwards. It declared the whole city its eternal and undivided capital, a claim never recognised by the international community or the Palestinians, who have demanded east Jerusalem as the capital of a future state. The Palestinians slammed Olmert's remarks, insisting they would never agree to a deal that did not include Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is a red line with respect to the Palestinian Authority and the Palestinian people and we cannot retreat one inch from it, Nabil Abu Rudeina, a spokesman for president Mahmud Abbas, told AFP by phone from Cairo.East Jerusalem is the capital of the Palestinian state and Olmert's statements are an attempt to run away from the commitments of the Annapolis conference and the vision of President Bush, he said. The American administration must work to push Israel to enter into serious negotiations and stop wasting time.Already on the agenda is a meeting in Washington later this week between Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and former Palestinian prime minister Ahmed Qorei, who head the respective negotiating teams. The two sides launched their latest round of peace talks after a seven-year hiatus, vowing to try to reach a comprehensive agreement by the time Bush leaves office next January.

The talks have made little tangible progress since then, but Olmert said the gaps on other core issues, including the fate of 4.5 million UN-registered Palestinian refugees and final borders, could be bridged by the end of 2008. On the other core issues the gaps are not dramatic. On the issue of refugees we can reach an understanding that will not make us assume responsibility or have to solve the issue within Israel's borders, he said. On the question of the borders there is a gap that is not unbridgable.

Olmert has vowed to put any agreement to a referendum.

Olmert sees no deal on Jerusalem before year-end Mon Jul 28, 6:05 AM ET

Ireland mulls autumn 2009 Lisbon revote
PHILIPPA RUNNER JULY 30,08 Today @ 17:14 CET

The Irish government is considering calling a second Lisbon treaty referendum in autumn 2009 after securing concessions on the number of commissioners, abortion, taxation and military neutrality, a major Irish daily reports.Under the plan, the re-vote in September or October next year would come after the June 2009 European Parliament elections, meaning the total number of MEPs would go down from 785 to 736, instead of 751 as envisaged by Lisbon. The mandate of the current European Commission would be extended until after the new treaty is in place and EU states would issue a solemn declaration that each EU member will keep its own commissioner in the future. The EU would also annex new statements to Lisbon guaranteeing that small print could not be used to force Ireland to relax its anti-abortion laws, increase corporate taxes or take part in European military integration. The plan is one of several under discussion by Dublin according to a senior government source quoted by The Independent on Wednesday (30 July). It's shaping that way. It's being kicked around, the contact said.

Ireland has promised to find a solution by the end of the year after some 53 percent of Irish people voted No to the treaty in June.A July survey showed that 62 percent would reject Lisbon if the referendum was held today and that 71 percent don't want to vote on the subject again. Dublin risks being isolated on the treaty, with 23 EU member states' parliaments having already given their assent and with the Italian lower chamber also set to approve the document in a vote on Wednesday afternoon.

The Ganley project

Ireland's most prominent No campaigner, Declan Ganley, is currently touring Europe to try and establish a new anti-Lisbon political group in time for the 2009 European elections. If elected, the wealthy businessman plans to write a reader-friendly, 20-page EU treaty based on the US constitution to replace the esoteric, 400-page long Lisbon text, he said in an interview with Polish newspaper Dziennik.Mr Ganley told French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Dublin last week that French people would also have rejected the treaty if France had held a referendum. You may be surprised to hear that he agreed with me, the Irishman said.

EU heart-broken over trade talks collapse
LEIGH PHILLIPS JULY 30,08 Today @ 09:28 CET

Global trade talks have collapsed as divisions between the US and India over emergency protections for poor farmers proved insurmountable. The so-called Doha Round of World Trade Organisation talks, which had limped into their second week of what had widely been described as gruelling negotiations, were derailed late on Tuesday (29 July) due to disagreement between the US and China and India over a special safeguard mechanism that would allow developing countries to temporarily protect their farmers from sudden surges in imports by raising tariffs. The US blamed the two countries for rejecting a compromise on the mechanism devised by WTO secretary-general Pascal Lamy and further developed by negotiators over the weekend. The special safeguard mechanism has long been a key demand of the G33, a group of developing countries including China, India, Nigeria, Indonesia and Turkey. European Union trade commissioner Peter Mandelson warned that any world trade agreement was not likely any time soon.I have to say...in all honesty, I don't think there's any realistic chance of modalities being agreed this year or in the foreseeable future, said the commissioner, speaking to reporters.Mr Mandelson called the collapse heart-breaking and a collective failure, saying he did not want to point the finger in any particular direction. However, he did have strong words for a bill recently passed by the US Congress offering $289 billion to the American farm sector over five years, far above the $15 billion maximum a year that was on the negotiating table in Geneva. He called the US legislation one of the most reactionary farm bills in the history of the US, according to the Financial Times.European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso also lamented the break-up of talks: The failure to reach an agreement in Geneva is a profound disappointment for the EU.

We did absolutely everything we could to reconcile the different views and find compromise, he said. The present failure does not remove the case for progress, most obviously for the benefit of developing countries, he added, saying that he would now recommend to EU member states that they make preparations for re-engagement with major partners at a later date.

China dishes out blame

China, for its part, blamed wealthier countries for protecting their agricultural sectors while demanding poor countries cut tariffs on industrial goods and liberalise their financial services markets. This selfishness and short-sighted behaviour has directly caused the failure of this WTO ministerial meeting, which will have a number of serious consequences, read a commentary in state news agency Xinhua.US trade representative Susan Schwab described developing country demands that their farmers be protected unconscionable in the face of the food crisis. It's ironic that the debate came down to how much and how fast could nations raise their barriers to imports of food, she said.

Welcome respite

However, Stop The New Round Coalition, a grouping of 49 third world development NGOs, advocacy groups and trade unions, welcomed the collapse, calling it a welcome respite for poor countries. The aggressive push by the rich countries led by the US and the EU for more trade liberalisation at a time of global crises of food and fuel was too blatant for developing countries to stomach, the group, which included the Hong Kong and Korean Confederations of Trade Unions, Jubilee South Africa and Attac Morocco, said in a statement. Now is the time to seriously think outside the WTO-box and move towards an alternative global trading system that puts poor peoples' interests at the centre, it added.

Business favours Blair as EU president
LUCIA KUBOSOVA JULY 30,08 Today @ 09:26 CET

European businesses would choose the UK's ex-leader, Tony Blair, as the new EU president, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Luxembourg's prime minister, Jean-Claude Juncker, featuring as other front-runners for the position in a fresh poll. The survey was carried out by financial news channel CNBC Europe, with Mr Blair supported by 37 percent of respondents, Ms Merkel 23 percent and Mr Juncker 12 percent of pollsters, UK daily the Guardian reported.

Tony Blair and Angela Merkel are the two most popular personalities for the top EU job among businesses (Photo: European Community, 2006)The British Labour leader was mentioned as a possible candidate for the new post already last year, mainly after French President Nicolas Sarkozy signalled he would back him.But the idea also sparked some objections in other European capitals, with Chancellor Merkel herself reportedly arguing against such a choice.

The creation of a new EU president post - to be held for two and a half years and partly replace the current six-month rotating chairmanship of the bloc's member states - is still an open question due to the failed referendum in Ireland on the Lisbon Treaty, which would have introduced institutional changes to how the EU is run, including the new position. The current French EU presidency had been planning to hold a debate on the tasks of a bloc's new president and also on which personality should fill the position, and that of a new common foreign minister. But after the Irish rejected the Lisbon Treaty in June, the main question mark remains on how the EU can move on with the institutional reform that needs to be approved by all member states. Tony Blair, Britain's prime minister for 10 years, is currently working as an international peace envoy to the Middle East while also serving as an advisor to insurance firm Zurich and investment bank JP Morgan.

NATO suspicious of Russian security pact idea
PHILIPPA RUNNER 29.07.2008 @ 09:28 CET

Russia's presentation of plans for a new Treaty on European Security at a NATO gathering on Monday (28 July) met with suspicion it might undermine existing alliances, with Moscow to return to the topic in September.European and American politicians express their concerns and preoccupations that the Russians are putting forward this initiative to weaken NATO or the OSCE, Russia's NATO ambassador, Dmitry Rogozin, told Reuters. These fears we can only laugh at - they are not serious, he added, after the regular session of the NATO-Russia Council in Brussels. It does not intend to undermine the existing structures and institutions of security.

Speaking to state-sponsored broadcaster NTV Mir in Moscow, Mr Rogozin explained that What we suggest is a sort of reloading of our relations [with NATO] because on many matters our contacts have reached a definite dead end.During the interview, NTV Mir's own correspondent showed hostility to the western alliance by referring to it by the Soviet-era term likeliest potential enemy and calling it this morally obsolete organization. The Russian idea - raised by president Dmitry Medvedev in recent speeches and at last month's EU-Russia summit - envisages a new pan-European security pact of non-aggression and cooperation on terrorism and immigration. The legally-binding treaty would be negotiated at a major international summit organised by Moscow and could embrace NATO, the OSCE and non-European states like Canada, India and China as junior members.US, British and eastern European NATO envoys probed Mr Rogozin on how the new pact would work in practice and its legal compatibility with existing international clubs, but the Russian diplomat was short on answers, IHT reports. Rogozin did not go into any detail on president Medvedev's proposals, a NATO spokesman said. The ambassadors asked a number of fundamental questions, which [he] promised to deal with in more detail in September.

EU defence out of date

One Russian idea - that European defence is based on an old Cold War-era model - was also voiced in a report by NGO the European Council on Foreign Relations out Tuesday, which advocates a multi-speed EU defence policy. Writing in a comment for EUobserver, the study's author, Nick Witney, says pro-active EU states should join up on research or peacekeeping projects, leaving behind sceptics such as Austria, Bulgaria, Greece and Ireland.[EU top diplomat] Javier Solana has often been reduced to phoning defence ministers in person to secure a single transport plane or field surgeon, for previous EU missions, Mr Witney said.

Russia to propose pan-European security pact
PHILIPPA RUNNER 28.07.2008 @ 09:29 CET

Individual European countries should sign up to a legally-binding security pact that includes Russia in a new structure over-arching the EU and NATO, Russian diplomats will propose at a meeting of NATO ambassadors in Brussels on Monday (28 July). The pact would be negotiated at a special international forum convened by Russia and could embrace emerging powers Brazil and India, Central Asian states and existing international security alliances such as the EU, NATO, the OSCE, the CIS and the CSTO. The treaty would handle problems such as NATO enlargement, illegal migration, drug trafficking, organised crime and terrorism, Russian NATO ambassador Dmitry Rogozin told the New York Times, admitting the idea is unlikely to get a warm welcome at first. We do not expect immediate reaction on the part of our western partners, or booing or, on the contrary, applause, he said, with western analysts arguing the proposed Russian set-up would weaken NATO by subjecting it to external vetoes.Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev outlined his ideas on the pact in two major speeches in recent weeks, but European reaction has been muted so far, with the NATO-Russia Council meeting on Monday to be the first formal debate on the scheme.

Speaking to his ambassadors in Moscow on 15 July, the president said a new Treaty on European Security would address flaws in the architecture of European security and the need to create in the Euro-Atlantic area a truly open and collective security system.

Talking to business leaders in Berlin on 5 June, he said Atlanticism as a single basis for security has exhausted itself. We must at the present time discuss [the concept of] a single Euro-Atlantic space from Vancouver to Vladivostok.A recent Kremlin policy paper, the 7,000-word long Foreign Policy Concept, suggests Russia wants to play a major role on the world stage and is prepared to take unilateral action, leveraging its oil and gas resources, if the west does not take note.Russia exerts substantial influence on the formation of the new architecture of international relations, the text says, adding it will use all the economic leverage and resources at its disposal...for the protection of its national interests.

Oil jumps $5 after report says gas supplies fell By STEVENSON JACOBS, AP Business Writer JULY 30,08

NEW YORK - Oil prices shot up Wednesday, jumping as much as $5 a barrel and halting a dramatic two-week slide after the government reported a surprise drop in gasoline supplies. Also supporting prices was news that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will step down in September, a move that raised doubts about progress for U.S.-backed Middle East peace efforts in the oil-producing region.

The big advance raised questions whether crude's steep decline was overblown, but also whether the pullback has now brought prices closer in line with flagging U.S. demand. Still, analysts offered mixed views on whether prices would return to record levels hit earlier this month, with some saying crude could surge higher and others calling Wednesday's rebound a temporary bump.Light, sweet crude for September delivery soared $4.53 cents to $126.72 a barrel in afternoon trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Earlier, prices jumped more than $5 a barrel, marking crude's biggest one-day rally since July 10, when prices ended $5.60 higher. The contract had fallen below $121 a barrel earlier in the day, and closed $2.54 lower on Tuesday at $122.19 a barrel. The Energy Information Administration said in its weekly inventory report that U.S. gasoline supplies fell by 3.5 million barrels last week. Analysts surveyed by energy research firm Platts expected gas supplies to increase by 400,000 barrels. U.S. crude stockpiles also fell by 100,000 barrels last week, less than the 1.3 million barrels analysts had predicted. The drop in gas supplies suggests record oil prices haven't curbed U.S. fuel demand to the extent that some energy market analysts had anticipated following crude's frenzied run above $147 a barrel earlier this month. We came into this report expecting lousy demand and it wasn't as bad as expected. It's stopping the bearish momentum that we've seen over the last few days, said Phil Flynn, analyst at Alaron Trading Corp. in Chicago. Also boosting prices Wednesday was a report by Goldman Sachs, which affirmed its earlier forecast that crude will hit $149 a barrel by the end of the year.

The investment bank called weakness in U.S. energy demand transient rather than permanent, saying the fundamentals of falling oil production and rising world energy consumption remain intact. Past forecasts for higher oil prices have caused jumps in prices as speculative buyers are drawn into the market.Still, other analysts said oil's recovery doesn't mean prices are about to go higher again, but rather shows that traders saw a short-term buying opportunity after Tuesday's sell-off.I still expect to see further air being let out of this balloon, said Stephen Schork, an analyst and trader in Villanova, Pa.He noted that U.S. demand for energy is falling across most sectors. Inventories of distillates, which include heating oil and diesel, rose by 2.4 million barrels, more than the 1.8 million barrels expected, according to the EIA report.

And Americans continue to cut back on their driving to cope with almost $4-a-gallon pump prices. The average price of a regular gas fell 1.5 cents on Wednesday to $3.926, according to auto club AAA, the Oil Prices Information Service and Wright Express. We clearly have demand destruction, Schork said. Before Wednesday's modest rebound, crude prices had dropped in seven of the last 10 sessions, and are down about 17 percent from their peak above $147 a barrel earlier this month. Prices remain about 60 percent higher than at this time last year.Comments from OPEC President Chakib Khelil indicating he did not see a need for the oil cartel to cut production if prices continued to fall were also pressuring oil prices, according to analysts at JBC Energy in Vienna. The dollar was stronger Wednesday against the euro, but the oil market seemed to be ignoring a trend that ordinarily would pressure prices. Investors buy commodities as a hedge against inflation and a weaker dollar but tend to sell when the American currency strengthens.

Oil also gained Tuesday's announcement from Royal Dutch Shell PLC that it may not be able to fulfill some oil export contracts after Nigerian militants sabotaged a pipeline in the Niger Delta.

Militant attacks on Nigerian oil facilities have trimmed nearly one quarter of the country's regular daily output. The strongest Nigerian militant group, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, said it sabotaged two pipelines early Monday in the southern oil-producing region. In other Nymex trading, heating oil futures rose 4.48 cents to $3.517 a gallon while gasoline prices gained 11.83 cents to $3.126 a gallon. Natural gas futures fell 11.3cents at $9.017 per 1,000 cubic feet. In London, September Brent crude rose $3.34 cents at $126.05 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange. Stocks pare gains as oil prices move higher By TIM PARADIS, AP Business Writer JULY 30,08

NEW YORK - Stocks gave up their biggest gains but still mostly advanced in lopsided trading Wednesday after an upbeat employment report from payroll company ADP made investors somewhat optimistic about the government's upcoming July employment report. A downturn in some financial and technology stocks and a jump in oil prices shaved the market's gains. Automatic Data Processing said private sector employment rose by 9,000 this month. After seeing jobs disappear by the thousands in recent months, the stock market is eager for any insights into the Labor Department's take on the job market on Friday. The Federal Reserve also announced it will extend its emergency borrowing program for Wall Street banks, which reassured the market that investment banks won't suffer from liquidity problems. The central bank will also now allow commercial banks to bid on cash loans that last for 84 days, besides the 28-day loans that are now available. The original program allowing investment firms to turn to the Fed for cash will now run through Jan. 30 instead of mid-September.

The latest overtures from the federal government, some of which had been expected, nonetheless helped investor sentiment. But the price of oil rose after a weekly Energy Department report on domestic supplies showed a surprise increase. And Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's announcement that he plans to resign in September stirred concerns about the viability of Middle East peace efforts and rising tensions with Iran. Light, sweet crude rose $4.91 to $127.10 on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Oil has fallen sharply, however, since hitting a high above $147 on July 11, and a drop in prices Tuesday contributed to a huge gain on Wall Street.

Rob Lutts, chief investment officer at Cabot Money Management Inc., said stocks are volatile as investors seemingly regard each new piece of news as the best word on where the economy is headed. We grab onto those key pieces of data every day. Right now oil is up but it's down $20 over the past three weeks, he said. We don't know whether to worry that what we have observed in the last month or two is just going to get worse or whether there is a glimmer of hope.In midafternoon trading, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 90.22, or 0.79 percent, to 11,487.78. The Dow had been up as much as 168 points earlier in the session. On Tuesday, the blue chips jumped 266 points, more than wiping out a nearly 240-point loss from the previous session.Broader stock indicators turned mixed Wednesday. The Standard & Poor's 500 index advanced 5.27, or 0.42 percent, to 1,268.47, and the technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 14.77, or 0.64 percent, to 2,304.85.Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by about 9 to 7 on the New York Stock Exchange, where volume came to 948.9 million shares.Bond prices fell as stocks advanced, diminishing demand for the safety of government debt. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note, which moves opposite its price, rose to 4.04 percent from 4.04 percent late Tuesday. The dollar was higher against other major currencies, while gold prices fell.Alan Levenson, chief economist at T. Rowe Price Associates Inc., said the Fed's decision to continue its borrowing program for Wall Street banks is a reassuring sign for investors even if banks don't necessarily use the money. He likened the process to a person recovering from an illness. You're given a five-day course of antibiotics. You may start feeling better after three days but you keep taking the antibiotics, he said.Other measures aimed at creating order in the markets will remain in place as well. Investors are still seeing restrictions on a type of trade that can exacerbate a stock's decline. The Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday extended a temporary ban on short-selling of the stocks of mortgage finance companies Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and 17 big investment banks. The SEC said the rule on naked short selling will go through Aug. 12 and won't be extended.Short sellers used borrowed shares and profit by correctly betting that they will fall. Naked short sellers, however, don't borrow shares before they sell them and try to cover their moves after they've placed their bets. The cap, put in place July 15 after a sharp drop in shares of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, helped calm the markets and drive a short-lived but substantial run-up in shares of financial companies. The government-chartered mortgage companies, which together hold or back nearly half of all U.S. mortgage debt, rose on news of the Fed's latest moves. Fannie Mae advanced 45 cents, or 3.9 percent, to $12.05, while Freddie Mac rose 6 cents to $8.48.

Wall Street has been juggling a number of intertwined worries in recent months as it tries to determine where the economy is headed. There is continued concern about bad mortgage debt that many banks are holding because homeowners swept up in the pullback in the housing market are missing mortgage payments. And the rapid rise in oil and other commodity prices this year has only made it harder for many consumers to keep up with their bills. Any sign of an easing in the credit and housing markets, or a drop in energy prices, offers some investors hope that the economy could begin to recover. Investors are anxious for the government's advance reading on second quarter gross domestic product, which is due Thursday. Economists expect that, while it might not feel like it to many consumers, the economy is still eking out growth. And the Labor Department's July employment report due Friday could give a read on how consumer spending might fare. Wall Street is anxious for consumers to remain employed because they account for more than two-thirds of U.S. economic activity. Investors also received a mixed batch of company news. Visteon Corp. shares jumped 36 cents, or 14 percent, to $2.92 after the auto parts supplier posted a narrower-than-expected quarterly loss. Corning Inc. said its second-quarter earnings jumped on a one-time tax gain and strong demand for glass used in flat-screen televisions and computers. But the company issued a third-quarter sales forecast that missed Wall Street's target. The stock fell $1.07, or 5 percent, to $20.25. The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies fell 3.81, or 0.53 percent, to 710.74. Overseas, Japan's Nikkei stock average rose 1.58 percent. Britain's FTSE 100 jumped 1.91 percent, Germany's DAX index advanced 0.96 percent, and France's CAC-40 jumped 1.85 percent.

POISONED WATERS

REVELATION 8:8-11
8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood:(bitter,Poisoned) and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.(poisoned)

REVELATION 16:3-7
3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.(enviromentalists won't like this result)
4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.
5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.
6 For they(False World Church and Dictator) have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

Penguins wash up closer to equator in Brazil By MICHAEL ASTOR, Associated Press Writer JULY 30,08

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - Penguins from frigid waters near the bottom of the world are washing up closer to the equator than ever before, Brazilian wildlife authorities said Wednesday. Adelson Cerqueira Silva of the federal environmental agency said that about 300 penguins have been found dead or alive in recent days along the coast of Bahia state, better known for sunbathers in bikinis than for seabirds native to Antarctica and Patagonia. Its capital of Salvador is roughly 600 miles (1,000 kilometers) closer to the equator than Miami is and temperatures in the current Southern Hemisphere winter are in the mid-70s (low 20s centigrade). This is unheard of. There have even been reports of penguins washing up as far as Aracaju, Silva said, referring to a beachside state capital even closer to the equator.Silva said biologists believe stronger-than-usual ocean currents have pulled the birds north. Others have suggested the increase might be due to overfishing near Patagonia and Antarctica that has forced the penguins to swim further in search of food.Silva said the environmental authority was receiving hundreds of phone calls reporting penguin sightings. We're telling people if the penguins don't appear to be injured or sick to leave them alone so they can swim back, Silva said in telephone interview from the Bahia state capital of Salvador.Rescued penguins have swamped a triage center for rescued birds, and Silva said about 90 of the birds found alive have since died.Penguins have been sweeping up on Brazilian shores in ever greater numbers this year, for reasons that are not entirely clear. While penguins commonly wash up as far north as Rio de Janeiro state in July and August — hundreds have done so this year. Bahia is roughly 750 miles (1,200 kilometers) northeast of Rio.P. Dee Boersma, a conservation biologist at the University of Washington who works with penguins in Argentina, said that while she has heard of penguins occasionally washing up as far north as Bahia, the numbers washing up this year are extremely high.

The last time that you got a lot of penguins was in 2000, mostly in Rio but some further north. That year the sea surface temperature was a degree lower than the 30 year average so the penguins just keep swimming in search of food without noticing where they're going, said Boersma in a telephone interview from Seattle. She also said overfishing near Patagonia and Antarctica could be a factor. In the past decade, penguins have had to swim an average of 40 miles (60 kilometers) further north to find food, Boersma said. The majority of penguins turning up are baby birds that have just left the nest and are least able to outswim the strong ocean currents.

OZONE DEPLETION

ISAIAH 30:26-27
26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.
27 Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire:

MATTHEW 24:21-22,29
21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened (Daylight hours shortened)
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

REVELATION 16:7-9
7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

7-square-mile ice sheet breaks loose in Canada Wed Jul 30, 8:09 AM ET

EDMONTON, Alberta - A chunk of ice spreading across seven square miles has broken off a Canadian ice shelf in the Arctic, scientists said Tuesday. Derek Mueller, a research at Trent University, was careful not to blame global warming, but said it the event was consistent with the theory that the current Arctic climate isn't rebuilding ice sheets. We're in a different climate now, he said. It's not conducive to regrowing them. It's a one-way process.

Mueller said the sheet broke away last week from the Ward Hunt Ice Shelf off the north coast of Ellesmere Island in Canada's far north. He said a crack in the shelf was first spotted in 2002 and a survey this spring found a network of fissures. The sheet is the biggest piece shed by one of Canada's six ice shelves since the Ayles shelf broke loose in 2005 from the coast of Ellesmere, about 500 miles from the North Pole.Formed by accumulating snow and freezing meltwater, ice shelves are large platforms of thick, ancient sea ice that float on the ocean's surface. Ellesmere Island was once entirely ringed by a single enormous ice shelf that broke up in the early 1900s.At 170 square miles and 130-feet thick, the Ward Hunt shelf is the largest of those remnants. Mueller said it has been steadily declining since the 1930s.Gary Stern, co-leader of an international research program on sea ice, said it's the same story all around the Arctic.Speaking from the Coast Guard icebreaker Amundsen in Canada's north, Stern said He hadn't seen any ice in weeks. Plans to set up an ice camp last February had to be abandoned when usually dependable ice didn't form for the second year in a row, he said.Nobody on the ship is surprised anymore, Stern said. We've been trying to get the word out for the longest time now that things are happening fast and they're going to continue to happen fast.
