Pictured in the poster is a gigantic Bible, towering over the walls of the Old City.The caption says: Bush, read your Bible. God gave Israel to the Jews.

Tzvi Fishman, of the Am K’Lavee organization, and an Arutz 7 blogger, says The poster is designed to refocus Israel’s opposition to further withdrawals back to our Divine claim to the Land of Israel, as documented again and again in the Bible.Am K’Lavee organizes the annual mass parade to the Kotel on Jerusalem Day, which is attended by tens of thousands. It is joining a broad spectrum of grassroots organizations that are planning protests during Bush’s three-day visit to Jerusalem.The Biblical claim of the Jewish People to the Land of Israel was recognized by the British in the Balfour Declaration of 1917, which called for the establishment of a Jewish State in Palestine, Fishman states. The British believed in the Bible and what was written in it, and that was what guided Lord Balfour in winning the support of the British Parliament.

America also believes in the Bible, Fishman says, and therefore, it is totally unreasonable that America and its G-d-fearing President should act against the Bible, the pillar of Christian belief. Through the poster, Fishman is embarking to remind President Bush that God’s plan for the world supersedes his plan.
How to conduct its public relations campaign has long been a matter of debate among Jewish leaders in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza (Yesha). Am K'Lavee has chosen what they call the irrefutable argument. Fishman explains: I remember the day some twenty years ago when the leaders of the settlement movement decided that they weren’t going to speak any more about G-d’s gift of the Land of Israel to our forefather, Abraham. People thought they could trust the famous military hero, Sharon, when he assured the nation that there was no security risk in evacuating the Jewish towns of Gush Katif. The military question can be argued this way and that, but our Biblical claim to the Land is irrefutable. Bush, America, Europe, and all the Christian world have to be reminded that in pressuring us to give up the Jewish towns of Yesha and divide Jerusalem, they are going against the Bible and G-d.Fishman says that Bible lovers all over the world have to join the fight to save the Holy Land. It's not just about saving the Jewish villages of Yesha and safeguarding the unity of Jerusalem, but also preventing the wanton destruction of shrines and churches sacred to their religions as well, he argues.

It isn’t enough that this poster fills the streets of Jerusalem, Fishman asserts. It has to be circulated all over the Internet, on every Christian, Baptist, Evangelist, Catholic, and Jewish site. A vast part of the world still believes in the Bible, and if these hundreds of millions say no to the Road Map and email the poster to the White House, they can help us save our Holy City and prevent the Holy Land from turning into a haven for Islamic terror.

Moderate earthquake hits Indonesia's Java

JAKARTA, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with magnitude of 5.0 rocked Java Island of Indonesia on Monday, but there was no report of damages or casualty, Indonesia's meteorology agency said here.
The quake rattled at 16:36 Jakarta time (0936 GMT) with epicenter at 150 kilometers southwest Banyuwangi of East Java province and at 30 kilometers in depth, an official of the agency said. Twenty-three people were killed and thousands of buildings were destructed in September 2007 after a 7.9-magnitude quake rocked Bengkulu province in Sumatra Island of western Indonesia. In 2004, over 170,000 people were killed in Aceh province in northern tip of Sumatra Island after a tsunami triggered by a powerful quake devastated coastal areas of the province and other countries in Southeast Asia. Indonesia is laid at a vulnerable zone, so called the Pacific Ring of Fire, where two continental plates, stretching from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia, meet that causes frequent volcanic movements. ANKARA, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- A total of 945 buildings were heavily damaged in the earthquake that struck the Turkish capital of Ankara and its towns on Dec. 27, said the Turkish Public Works and Housing Ministry on Monday. Following our works, we determined that 945 buildings were heavily damaged, 7 were moderately damaged and 1,262 were slightly damaged, said Sadik Yamac, undersecretary of the ministry. An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted Ankara on Dec. 27. Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory and Seismology Institute said the quake was centered on Bala town of Ankara. On Dec. 20, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 also shook Bala town, but caused no casualties.

Chile’s Llaima Volcano Eruption Traps 53 People in Wilderness Park Atlanta, Ga. 1/02/2008 05:04 PM GMT (FINDITT)

At least 53 people have been trapped inside the Conguillio National Park in Chile after a volcanic eruption cut off roadways and flooded rivers with meltwater making it impossible to evacuate.
The Llaima volcano eruption filled the sky with smoke but was not believed to have caused any injuries. Located about 400 miles south of Santiago, the Conguillio National Park is a popular attraction for tourists. Many of those stranded inside the park are believed to be tourists. Chilean military helicopters are being sent to airlift those people out of the park.

Oil hits record $100 a barrel JAN 2,07

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. crude oil futures hit a record $100 a barrel on Wednesday, surging more than $4 as violence in OPEC members Nigeria and Algeria combined with a weak dollar and a cold snap to boost crude futures. Fresh buying at the new year was also cited as helping lift the oil futures complex.On the New York Mercantile Exchange at 12:17 p.m. EST, February crude was up $2.67 or 2.78 percent at $98.65 a barrel, trading from $96.05 to $100.00, a record front-month high, eclipsing the previous record of $99.29 hit November 21.(Reporting by Robert Gibbons)

Gold’s advance leads way for oil and platinum

Commodity markets made a flying start to 2008 with gold, oil and platinum setting records during the first trading session of the new year.Gold led the initial advance, rising 3.3 per cent to $861.10 a troy ounce, surpassing the previous high of $850 reached in January 1980. The metal later eased back to $858.10 in late London trading.

Heating oil stocks are 34.5 per cent below last year’s levels, and with colder weather expected in parts of the US, Nymex February heating oil rose 8.8 cents to $2.7375 a gallon, a record.

Small Slovenia takes on highly-charged EU agenda

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - With just three years of European Union membership under its belt, Slovenia will take on the EU presidency today (1 January) landing itself a highly politicised agenda.Of all the issues that the small ex-Yugoslav state will have to deal with over the next six months, two are set to dominate the agenda -the Kosovo question and the EU renewable energy package.Slovenia has reluctantly inherited the thorny issue of the future status of Kosovo, the breakaway Serb province, one of the greatest foreign policy challenges the bloc has faced in recent years. EU member states are only slowly working themselves towards a unified approach on what to do when confronted with Kosovo's likely future bid for independence.

Matters are likely to come to a political head after the Serbian presidential elections on 20 January and 3 February. Kosovo indicated in December it would wait until February to make any independence declaration. This will also give the EU time to work out what it means by coordinated procedure - the process by which Pristina is to seek independence, in theory allowing each member state the option of choosing whether to recognise it or not. Ljubljana has also indicated that it is to put special focus on the Western Balkans more generally, hoping to devote the traditional summer gathering of EU leaders to the issue as well as pursuing other ways of tying the region more strongly to the 27-nation union, such as involving them in European research or infrastructure projects.

On the internal front, the EU is set to be thoroughly preoccupied with its 2020 targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with the commission due on 12 January to publish legislation on how each member state should contribute to the overall target.The issue is highly controversial with each government trying to make sure it assumes the least burden as possible. It will be Slovenia's job to steer the package through the council, the member states' chamber as well as co-ordinate with the European Parliament.On this dossier there is the added pressure of a tight timetable as the package should go through the Brussels legislative channel in just one go in order to ensure that it has a chance of being approved before the end of the current term of the European Commission in 2009. In addition, the EU should have the legislatio agreed if it is to maintain the moral high ground when it comes to talks in 2009 on a new international climate change agreement.

Turkey and EU treaty

Aside from the planned summits with Japan, Russia and the US, the Alpine Republic with its 2-million strong population, will also have to deal with Turkey's EU membership bid and the pending EU treaty.Slovene officials have already said that they hope to open two more areas of membership negotiation with Ankara's EU hopes sharply undermined by opposition both in Paris and Berlin as well as its own slow pace of reform.During the six-month presidency, it will also steer discussions on the new EU treaty. The recently-agreed set of institutional rules leaves several open questions concerning the division of power in the bloc. These need to be cleared up before the treaty comes into force, probably in 2009.
Finally, it will also oversee the final step of the expansion of the bloc's passport-free zone when it is extended to apply to airports in March. Sea and land borders were relaxed in December.
Although officials will be looking to see how Slovenia fares as the first of the 2004 member states to take on the EU presidency, small countries have a reputation for being committed to the task at hand and therefore doing presidencies well.

Slovenia, which expanded its personnel in its representation in Brussels to 166 people - up from around 50 two years ago – says it is basing its presidency on Ireland's model. Dublin held a highly successful presidency in 2004. 2008 EUobserver.

In the Chinese zodiac calendar, 2008 is the Year of the Rat. In the European Union, 2008 is shaping up to be the year of the French.France's six-month EU presidency, its first since 2000, will not begin until July 1. But already the bloc's other 26 member states are anticipating France's occupation of the hot seat with uncommon excitement.The French presidency will be highly ambitious. Budget reform, agriculture, trade, energy security, climate change, immigration, defence - you name it, as long as there's something to be done, the French will do it, says a Brussels-based ambassador.Long before July, France's experienced, prefectural shadow will lie over Slovenia, an EU new boy that on January 1 will become the first former communist country to hold the bloc's rotating presidency.Having joined the EU only in 2004, Slovenia in its six-month term will be keen to prove its competence but happy to take French advice. They accept it. They're almost relieved. They are uncertain about their capabilities, one diplomat says.With French initiatives set to dominate the year, admiration for the fresh sense of purpose in Paris is mixed in some EU capitals with wariness about the likely tone and direction of policies under Nicolas Sarkozy, the restlessly energetic French president.

Mr Sarkozy's jabs at the European Central Bank's independence and his vision of a Mediterranean Union connecting EU and non-EU countries in southern Europe have gone down poorly in Germany and other northern states.The personal relationship between Mr Sarkozy and Angela Merkel, Germany's chancellor, lacks natural warmth, according to EU officials and diplomats who have seen them at work together.She is a scientist; she likes details. She is calm. She is exactly the opposite of him. He is a voluntarist, highly strung and emotional. It will take a bit of time to find their own chemistry and way of functioning together, an EU official says.In some countries, Mr Sarkozy's emphasis on the EU's right to economic self-protection in the age of globalisation and his outspoken views on Muslim immigration into Europe induce a certain nervousness.The peoples of Europe are going through a profound identity crisis, Mr Sarkozy told the European parliament last month.

It is a crisis linked to the globalisation and commercialisation of the world. However, officials familiar with the thinking of José Manuel Barroso, the European Commission president, say he is impressed with Mr Sarkozy. Sarkozy has brought a new French enthusiasm for Europe. He's formulating initiatives. It's very important. There are certain points that one can and must discuss but overall the attitude is positive, says one senior official.In certain respects, 2008 will mark the year when France completes its return to the front centre of Europe's stage, after its wounded withdrawal to the wings when French voters rejected the now-abandoned EU constitutional treaty on May 29 2005.Mr Sarkozy's presidential election victory last May launched the process by which France has rebuilt its influence in EU affairs. Now some experts in Brussels, both supporters and occasional critics of French policies, say Mr Sarkozy has a great chance to seize the initiative in 2008.Of the leaders of the EU's four big countries, Mr Sarkozy will be politically the strongest, they say. Mrs Merkel will be increasingly hamstrung by feuds in her Christian Democrat-Social Democrat coalition and by the approach to Germany's next federal election, due in 2009.

Gordon Brown, the British prime minister, will be engaged in a long struggle to assert his authority and to prepare for the next British election, probably in 2009. Romano Prodi, Italy's premier, will as ever lead a weak and divided government.Moreover, with Mr Barroso adjusting his free-market instincts as he aims for re-election as Commission president in 2009, and with economic reformers on the defensive in Germany, Mr Sarkozy's message of an ambitious state-guided modernisation that protects the European social model appears to have caught the emerging spirit of the age.
The Anglo-Saxon model that was dominant a year ago is being pushed aside by the Rhineland model and Club Med, says one EU ambassador, referring to two versions of capitalism traditionally practised by France, Germany and southern European countries.

BRUSSELS, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Cyprus and Malta will join the eurozone on Jan. 1, 2008, bringing the total number of countries sharing the same currency from 13 to 15. Following are basic facts about the eurozone. The Eurozone, or euro area, refers to the area comprising the European Union (EU) countries which share the same currency, the euro. It is a monetary union, within which all member states not onlyabandoned their former currency, but also have to transfer power to set national monetary policy to a transnational European Central Bank (ECB), located in Frankfurt, Germany. The euro is managed and administered by the ECB and the European System of Central Banks (ESCB), which consists of the central banks of its member states.

It is the 1992 Maastricht Treaty on the EU that set the rules and defined the roadmap for an economic and monetary union, leading to the introduction of the euro as book money in 1999 and the circulation of euro coins and banknotes in 2002. But the idea of a single currency gained ground as early as in the 1970s. Among the 27 EU member states, there are currently 13 using the euro, namely Austria, Belgium, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Slovenia.
The adoption by Cyprus and Malta of the euro will mark the second enlargement of the eurozone. Slovenia adopted the single currency on Jan. 1, 2007 in the first enlargement, becoming the 13th member. After Cyprus and Malta join, the eurozone will include a population of 320 million out of the EU's total of 495 million people and account for nearly three quarters of the EU's gross domestic product (GDP), totaling 11.6 trillion euros (17.1 trillion U.S. dollars) in 2006. EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - The European currency is today (1 January) replacing the national currencies of the two Mediterranean islands of Malta and Cyprus, bringing the number of EU states using the euro to 15 out of the 27 member states.The euro will replace the Cypriot pound and the Maltese lira, which currently equal €1.71 and €2.33 respectively.Cyprus and Malta joined the EU on 1 May 2004together with eight other states and follow Slovenia which in January 2007 became the first new EU state to join the euro club.
They will add around 1.2 million people to the euro zone - some 800,000 Cypriots and around 400,000 Maltese - bringing the number of those EU citizens using the euro as a national currency to 320 million out of the EU's total 495-million large population.The new euro coins in circulation as of 1 January also add six new national sides to the already existing ones.The Maltese €1 and €2 coins represent the eight-pointed Maltese cross, seen as a symbol of the Maltese identity; the 10-, 20- and 50-euro cent coins feature the Maltese coat of arms; while the Mnajdra temples, considered to be one of the world's oldest free-standing temple groupings, are seen on the 1-, 2- and 5-cent coins.

The Cypriot €1 and €2 coins feature the idol of Pomos, seen as representing the country's contribution to civilisation since prehistory; the 10-, 20- and 50-euro cent coins represent the ancient Kyrenia ship symbolising the island's historical importance from a trading point of view; and the 1-, 2- and 5-cent coins depict a species of wild sheep representing the island's wildlife.Cyprus and Malta got the green light to introduce the euro in May 2007, after fulfilling the necessary criteria, including a government deficit lower than three percent of GDP, a government debt not higher than 60 percent of GDP, as well as price and exchange rate stability.On both islands, thousands of euro converters have been distributed to households to facilitate the transition to the new currency.However, both Cypriots and Maltese citizens have indicated they fear the euro entry may be followed be a possible price rise – as it happened in Slovenia in 2007.

Meanwhile, as a side-effect of Cyprus' adoption of the euro, the European currency will also be used in British military bases on the island.Britain kept its sovereign military bases under an agreement signed in 1960 which released Cyprus from colonial rule.
The bases include Dhekelia, Episkopi and RAF Akrotiri, and some 10,000 British service personnel and their dependents are currently stationed on the island, according to French news agency AFP.It's good news for Cyprus so we have to mirror the republic's harmonisation with the EU as far as possible, otherwise it would make life unbelievably impossible, British forces Cyprus spokesman Captain Nick Ulvert told the press agency.The euro could also bring the economies of the divided island closer together, as the northern Turkish part of Cyprus may adopt the currency unilaterally, according to Reuters.Northern Cyprus, which is recognised only by Turkey internationally, is currently using the Turkish lira, but would have no objection to introducing the euro, the agency reports.Slovakia is expected to be the next member state to adopt the euro in 2009, while the two newest EU states, Bulgaria and Romania, hope to be able to follow suit by 2010-2011 and 2014 respectively.Of the remaining 12 countries currently not in the euro zone, only the UK and Denmark have chosen not to adopt the European currency for reasons of economic sovereignty – but they have the option to join in the future. 2008 EUobserver.

JERUSALEM – Jews are not allowed to pray on the Temple Mount in any way whatsoever, even if they only move their lips or demonstrate other signs of prayer on Judaism's holiest site, ruled Avi Dichter, Israel's public security minister. Dichter was responding to a recent decision by two Knesset members who said they would ascend the Temple Mount quietly – without informing the media or making any protest – and attempt to pray on the holy site. The lawmakers, Uri Ariel and Aryeh Eldad from Israel's National Union Party, said Muslim prayer services take place throughout the day in the many mosques and Islamic religious schools situated on the holy site, and Jews should be able to pray as individuals on the Mount. In a letter to the lawmakers, Dichter, Israel's highest ranking public security officer, wrote that while police cannot generally arrest a person conversing with his maker ... however it is possible to carry out an arrest for expressions of outward and demonstrative signs [of prayer on the Temple Mount]. Dichter's use of the phrase conversing with his maker" mimicked the terminology used by Ariel and Eldad to describe prayer.

Dichter wrote his interpretation of Israeli law is in line with the rationale that bans Jews from praying at the site, in light of serious concerns that this will serve as a provocation, resulting in disorder, with a near certain likelihood of subsequent bloodshed.Israeli restrictions bar Jewish groups from praying on the Temple Mount and only allow Jews to ascend for certain hours on some days, while the Mount is open to Muslims all year. According to strict interpretation of a 1973 Israeli law, a Jew as an individual can pray on the Temple Mount as long as the prayer is not uttered as a protest of Jewish rights to the holy site. But Israeli police forbid all Jewish prayer at the site, although there have been a few instances recently in which Jews prayed there without being arrested. While Dichter vehemently opposed even the slightest pretence of a Jew praying on the Mount, his security ministry and the Israeli police have not acted to halt the Hamas terror group's daily broadcast of Islamic prayer services from the Mount's Al Aqsa Mosque, considered the third holiest site in Islam. WND broke the story that Hamas last month starting broadcasting the Mount's daily Muslim prayers on the group's official radio station, Al Aqsa Radio. The services are broadcast alongside anti-Semitic commentary, including incitement against Jews.

The official Hamas radio network announced it would continue airing exclusive daily streams of Muslim morning services from the Temple Mount, and, indeed, the broadcasts have continued as scheduled, with this morning's prayer services streamed live by Hamas. Hamas radio is heard throughout Palestinian cities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Our broadcast is a victory for the Al Aqsa Mosque, which is suffering from Judaization efforts imposed by the Zionist government, said Rami Kaoud, a manager at Al Aqsa Radio. Broadcasting daily radio is a way to bring Al Aqsa to the Gaza Strip and challenge the siege imposed on us by the Zionist entity.All broadcasts from the Mount must be approved by the Waqf, which guard the Muslim entrances to the Temple Mount along with the Israeli police. Broadcasts must also be approved by the Israeli police, but cameramen and reporters routinely enter the site from Muslim gates to broadcast without prior police approval as long as Waqf agents allow the entry. Rabbi Chaim Richman, a spokesman for the New Jewish Congress, a group of religious Zionist leaders, told WND Dichter's comments today restricting Jewish prayer convey hatred and discrimination towards the Jewish people.

Dichter's statement is yet another indication that the government of [Israeli Prime Minister] Ehud Olmert has ceased to be a Jewish government altogether, having not the slightest connection with the Jewish people.Dichter is a member of Olmert's ruling Kadima party. The Temple Mount is site of the First Jewish Temple, which was built by King Solomon in the 10th century B.C. It was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. The Second Temple was rebuilt at the same location in 515 B.C. after Jerusalem was freed from Babylonian captivity. That temple was destroyed by the Roman Empire in A.D. 70. Each temple stood for a period of about four centuries. The Jewish Temple was the center of religious Jewish worship. It housed the Holy of Holies, which contained the Ark of the Covenant and was said to be the area upon which God's presence dwelt. The Dome of the Rock, adjacent to the Al Aqsa Mosque, now sits on the site. The Temple served as the primary location for the offering of sacrifices and was the main gathering place in Israel during Jewish holidays. The Temple Mount compound has remained a focal point for Jewish services over the millennia. Prayers for a return to Jerusalem have been uttered by Jews since the Second Temple was destroyed, according to Jewish tradition. Jews worldwide pray facing toward the Western Wall, a portion of an outer courtyard of the Temple left intact.

Olmert hints Jerusalem division is inevitable

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Prime Minister Ehud Olmert signaled on Tuesday Israel might have no choice but to share Jerusalem with the Palestinians in a peace deal, citing international pressure for compromise over the holy city.The world that is friendly to Israel ... that really supports Israel, when it speaks of the future, it speaks of Israel in terms of the '67 borders. It speaks of the division of Jerusalem, Olmert said in an interview with The Jerusalem Post.Israel captured Arab East Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed it in a move that failed to win international recognition. It regards all of Jerusalem as its eternal and indivisible capital.Palestinians want East Jerusalem to be the capital of the state they aspire to establish in the occupied West Bank and in the Gaza Strip.The future of Jerusalem is one of the core issues Israel and the Palestinians agreed to tackle in peace talks they renewed after a U.S.-hosted summit in Annapolis, Maryland in November.Olmert's comments appeared to be another move by the prime minister to prepare Israeli public opinion for the possibility of a deal that would loosen Israel's control of all of Jerusalem.

His deputy and close confidant, Haim Ramon, has said Israel should in future negotiate creation of a special regime that would govern some of the sacred sites in Jerusalem's walled Old City.In separate remarks on Tuesday, Defense Minister Ehud Barak made clear there would be no sweeping changes in Israel's network of hundreds of roadblocks and checkpoints in the West Bank while negotiations went ahead.Barak, addressing Israeli troops in the West Bank, said the barriers, condemned by Palestinians as collective punishment, helped to thwart attacks by militants.There is no chance of waging an effective fight against terror without a real and daily control of the field, and the checkpoints and roadblocks will remain, said Barak, a former prime minister who now leads the center-left Labour Party.

The United States, which hosted a Middle East peace conference in Annapolis, Maryland in November, has urged Israel to relax travel restrictions on Palestinians in the West Bank.In order to ease matters when it comes to the daily lives of Palestinians, we are trying to permit the opening of roadblocks and checkpoints on the fringes, Barak said.As of now, dozens of earth roadblocks have been removed as well as two of the 16 major checkpoints, and we may make more concessions here and there, he said.Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, voicing frustration at the slow pace of change, said in a speech on Monday: "Each time (there is a meeting with the Israelis) they say they will remove (checkpoints) or have already removed some of them -- but I can honestly say they did not remove a single checkpoint.Israel and the Palestinians have said they hoped to reach a peace agreement before U.S. President George W. Bush, who visits Israel and the West Bank next week, leaves office next year.Olmert has already questioned publicly the wisdom of annexing outlying Arab neighborhoods of the city after the 1967 conflict. The Anglican Bishop in Jerusalem, Bishop Suheil Dawani, has expressed his concern about the Global Anglican Future Conference planned for the Holy Land in June this year. Regrettably, I have not been consulted about this planned conference, said Bishop Suheil.The first I learned of it was through a press release. I am aware that the post-Christmas announcement that this conference is to be held here has excited considerable interest around the Anglican Communion, and has become the subject of online discussion. Yet we Anglicans who minister here have been left out in the cold.I also note that the Archbishop of Sydney, Dr Peter Jensen, who appears to be one of the organisers, is encouraging clergy and lay people from his diocese to attend the conference with him and his bishops. He speaks of the meeting taking place because the Anglican Communion is, he says, 'in disarray over fundamental issues of the gospel and biblical authority'.

I am deeply troubled that this meeting, of which we had no prior knowledge, will import inter-Anglican conflict into our diocese, which seeks to be a place of welcome for all Anglicans. It could also have serious consequences for our ongoing ministry of reconciliation in this divided land. Indeed, it could further inflame tensions here. We who minister here know only too well what happens when two sides cease talking to each other. We do not want to see any further dividing walls! I believe our Primate, Dr Mouneer Hanna Anis,is also concerned about this event. Confirmed: Islamic leaders to visit Vatican for talks

Rome, Jan. 2, 2008 (CWNews.com) - The president of the Pontifical Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue has confirmed plans for a meeting between Vatican officials and Islamic leaders. Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran told the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano that a meeting with representatives of the Common Word initiative, launched in October 2007 by a group of 138 Islamic leaders, will take place in Rome this spring. The meeting, he observed, will be in a certain sense historic. He did not give a specific date for the meeting. After the Common Word group issued its October call for talks with Christian leaders, Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) replied in November with an invitation for representatives of the group to come to Rome for in-depth discussions. Last week Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad bin Talal, the president of the Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought in Jordan, revealed that he had accepted the papal invitation. The Jordanian leader indicated that he hoped to meet with the Pontiff in February or March 2008-- a time period that seems to match Cardinal Tauran's projected schedule for the meeting. The sessions in Rome are expected to involve representatives of the Vatican Secretariat of State and the Pontifical Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies. Vatican officials are determined to press their case for Islamic recognition of the right to religious freedom, especially for Christians living in predominantly Muslim countries.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Libya took over the rotating presidency of the U.N. Security Council on Tuesday in a major step back to global respectability after decades as a pariah of the West. The North African country was elected in October, as were Burkina Faso, Costa Rica, Croatia and Vietnam, to sit on the council in 2008-09 after the United States, which foiled two earlier bids by Tripoli, decided not to block it this time.By an alphabetical accident, Libya becomes president of the 15-nation body from its very first day as a member, succeeding Italy. Each country is president for a month, the rotation going in English alphabetical order of names.Libya and Burkina Faso had been unopposed after being endorsed by the African regional grouping for two African seats that fell vacant on December 31.

The Security Council is the powerhouse of the United Nations, with the ability to send peacekeeping troops around the world and impose sanctions on specific countries.Unlike the five permanent members -- the United States, Russia, Britain, France and China -- the nonpermanent members have no individual veto. But an alliance of seven of them can stop a resolution even if the big powers want it.Libya has only recently rehabilitated itself in Western eyes from an accused sponsor of terrorism that organized the 1988 bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Scotland, which killed 270 people.The case led to U.N. sanctions on Libya, which, under a gradual shift of course by leader Muammar Gaddafi, eventually turned over suspects and admitted civil responsibility. Also key was Gaddafi's 2003 decision to abandon weapons of mass destruction programs.In July, Libya ended a diplomatic standoff by freeing five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor held since 1999 on charges, which Western countries ridiculed, that they infected Libyan children with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

DARFUR KEY ISSUE

Libyan and other diplomats said they expected the crisis in Sudan's Darfur region, where the United Nations and African Union are trying to deploy a peace force, to be a key council issue in January. Other countries will be scrutinizing Libya's handling because of its interest as a neighbor of Sudan.Another major topic will be Serbia's Kosovo province. But diplomats said Iran could be less important because big powers must overcome divisions on possible new sanctions on Tehran over its nuclear program before the issue reaches the council.Council presidents can vote as they please, but must follow strict procedures in management of business and be neutral in public statements. Nevertheless they can wield important influence on scheduling the agenda and other formalities.Libya has been on the Security Council once before -- in 1976-77 -- and diplomats said its envoys had been relearning the role, attending closed consultations in the past two months and bringing in extra staff to help with the presidency.Countries that left the Security Council on December 31 were Congo Republic, Ghana, Peru, Qatar and Slovakia. In an interview at the start of a year that he hopes will yield a permanent Israeli-Palestinian peace accord, the prime minister said many rival Israeli political parties remain detached from the reality that requires Israel to compromise on parts of Eretz Yisrael in order to maintain its Jewish, democratic nature. If Israel will have to deal with a reality of one state for two peoples, he said, this could bring about the end of the existence of Israel as a Jewish state. That is a danger one cannot deny; it exists, and is even realistic. Indeed, his primary responsibility as prime minister, Olmert said, lay in ensuring a separation from the Palestinians.

What will be if we don't want to separate? he asked rhetorically. Will we live eternally in a confused reality where 50 percent of the population or more are residents but not equal citizens who have the right to vote like us? My job as prime minister, more than anything else, is to ensure that doesn't happen.The reality in which Israel was seeking an accommodation, he elaborated, includes a situation in which even the world that is friendly to Israel... that really supports Israel, when it speaks of the future, it speaks of Israel in terms of the '67 borders. It speaks of the division of Jerusalem.What was extraordinary about US President George W. Bush, in this context, Olmert said, was that Bush, since a landmark letter he wrote to then-prime minister Ariel Sharon in 2004, has made plain that he envisages Israel maintaining at least some territory in Judea and Samaria. Bush has already said '67 plus, said Olmert, and that's an amazing achievement for Israel.Thus, Olmert asserted, while the road map obligated Israel to stop all building in the settlements, including for natural growth, the Bush letter renders flexible to a degree the significance of what is written in the road map.

In comments likely to further exacerbate Palestinian protest at ongoing settlement expansion, Olmert said he considered Ma'aleh Adumim to be an indivisible part of Jerusalem and the State of Israel. I don't think when people are talking about settlements they are talking about Ma'aleh Adumim.At the same time, the prime minister expressed considerable empathy for Palestinian concerns over settlement growth. If the only construction work undertaken since the road map was accepted had been at Ma'aleh Adumim and Har Homa, he said, then I imagine the Palestinians, though they might not have been happy about it, would not have responded in the way that they respond when every year, all the settlements - in all the territories - continue to grow. There is a certain contradiction in this between what we're actually seeing and what we ourselves promised. We always complain about the [breached] promises of the other side. Obligations are not only to be demanded of others, but they must also be honored by ourselves. While all the final-status issues were now on the table as part of the Annapolis process, Olmert stressed that he would never accept a Palestinian right of return to Israel.

He said he was convinced, too, that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has made the choice in his heart between clinging to the myth of the right of return and the opportunity to establish a Palestinian state where all Palestinians, refugees included, would live. My impression is that he wants peace with Israel, and accepts Israel as Israel defines itself, Olmert said. If you ask him to say that he sees Israel as a Jewish state, he will not say that. But if you ask me whether in his soul he accepts Israel, as Israel defines itself, I think he does. That is not insignificant. It is perhaps not enough, but it is not insignificant.Asked whether next week's first Bush presidential visit was designed for Bush to become the godfather of the State of Palestine, Olmert said, I don't think he would define a visit like this in those terms... He's coming as an expression of his friendship. Also, he's coming to give expression to his support for the diplomatic process.

Bush was not pressuring Israel in any way, Olmert said. He's not doing a single thing that I don't agree to, he said. He doesn't support anything that I oppose. Rather, Olmert said, both he and the president hoped that the Annapolis timetable, for an accord in the course of 2008, could be met. Indeed, said the prime minister, there was currently an almost divinely ordained constellation of key personalities on the international stage favorably disposed to Israel, creating comfortable conditions for negotiations that might never be replicated. It's a coincidence that is almost the hand of God, Olmert said, that Bush is president of the United States, that Nicolas Sarkozy is the president of France, that Angela Merkel is the chancellor of Germany, that Gordon Brown is the prime minister of England and that the special envoy to the Middle East is Tony Blair.

The imperative, he said, was to make every effort for progress while this array of supportive characters remained in place. What possible combination, he asked, could be more comfortable for the State of Israel? Olmert said he believes with all my heart that kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Schalit is alive and that he was making every effort to determine the situation of captive reservists Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser. He said he favored re-examining the criteria for Palestinian prisoner releases because it may be that there is room for more precise definitions of what constitutes blood on hands.While Olmert said Egypt needed to do more to prevent arms smuggling into Gaza, he had high praise for President Hosni Mubarak. When I even think of how things would be if we were dealing with people other than Mubarak, well, I pray every day for his well-being and good health, he said. Expansive on many issues, Olmert was insistently understated on the existential threat posed by Iran. Even in the wake of the recent US National Intelligence Estimate, he said, The bottom line is that President Bush hasn't changed his opinion regarding the danger posed by Iran. And I haven't changed my impression regarding President Bush's commitment to prevent Iran from attaining nuclear weapons.

But, he added: Israel always acted and prepared for the possibility that it would need to defend its existence on its own. That's always been the case and that is the case today, wherever a threat to our existence can arise. GNS Science said the quake, occurred at 7:03 a.m. local time Saturday (18:03 GMT Friday), was centered 80 km below the surface of Lake Taupo and was felt across much of the central North Island. An earlier quake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale occurred on Thursday. It was located 10 km northwest of Turangi at a depth of 120 km. CHICAGO (AFP) - Heavy snowstorms continued to disrupt travel in the central United States Friday and forecasters said little relief was expected until the New Year. More than 400 flights were cancelled and delays were averaging an hour and a half at Chicago's O'Hare airport as the storm system which crippled Denver on Thursday moved eastward.But the Chicago airport authority said there was no need yet to bring out the cots set up last weekend as fog and wind stranded thousands of Christmas travelers.They're handling it fine, spokeswoman Karen Pride said of Friday's stranded and delayed passengers.It looks like it's a normal day.

United Airlines, which has hubs in both Chicago and Denver, has been hard-hit by the storms.Last weekend's delays led the airline to cancel even more flights on Monday and Tuesday because of crew shortages after mandatory work limits were reached.The debacle led to harsh words from the company's pilots union, which noted that other airlines had managed to operate with few cancellations in the same conditions.United said it shifted the crews around to make sure that passengers made it to their destinations in time for Christmas and that the current storm would not upset their schedule as much.We will operate as many flights as we safely can, spokeswoman Megan McCarthy told AFP.We have sufficient pilots to operate our flights for the remainder of the year.But delays and cancellations could be unavoidable given the storm systems expected to blow through the midwest in the coming days, the National Weather Service predicted.It's going to be a fairly active week, said meteorologist Michael Eckert.It looks like the Great Lakes and northeast United States are going to have mostly snow for tonight and Saturday, cooling down on Sunday and a second storm system will be riding up the east coast Sunday and Monday, he said in a telephone interview Friday.

Snowfall warnings have been issued for Newfoundland's southern coast and the Avalon Peninsula, with up to 15 centimetres expected by noon today. Just two days ago a blizzard dumped 20 centimetres on the St. John's area forcing government offices to close and disrupting air traffic. The new system will start bringing snow to southwestern Nova Scotia tonight, then barrel across the province to Cape Breton by Monday morning. Environment Canada says significant snowfall amounts can be expected before the snow changes to ice pellets or freezing rain, then rain. Prince Edward Island should start seeing snow Monday morning. Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly once the storm hits, making driving treacherous in many areas.

An Asteroid Hurtles Toward Mars
Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 By MICHAEL D. LEMONICK Scientists say that asteroid 2007 WD5 has a 1 in 75 chance of striking the planet Mars

NASA Article Astronomers have good news, better news and some bad news about an asteroid known as 2007 WD5. The good news is that this 164-ft.-wide chunk of speeding space rock, discovered in November in an ongoing search for potential threats to Earth, won't hit our planet any time in the foreseeable future. The better news — for eager space-watchers — is that the asteroid, currently about halfway between Earth and Mars, has a plausible chance of hitting the Red Planet at the end of January. If it does, astronomers will be treated to an unprecedented sight.

The event itself, however, will have plenty of precedent. The craters that pock the surface of Mars, the Moon, Mercury and other Solar System bodies come from about four billion years' worth of this sort of thing. Earth has had plenty of collisions too; it's just that erosion, continental drift and vegetation have erased or hidden most of them. Not all, though: Meteor Crater, in Arizona, was blasted out some 50,000 years ago by an asteroid about the same size as 2007 WD5. A much bigger object, a few miles across, is thought by many scientists to be the reason the dinosaurs died out some 65 million years ago.If 2007 WD5 does smack into Mars, every telescope on Earth will be pointed in that direction — just as they were in 1994 when Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 crashed into Jupiter. In that case, the comet broke up while it was still in orbit, so astronomers watched nearly two dozen individual impacts. But Jupiter is made mostly of thick clouds, so there was no lasting scar, and because it lies so far from Earth, the event wasn't quite as spectacular as this one promises to be. Asteroid 2007 WD5 should release some 3 megatons of energy if it slams into solid ground near Mars' equator, and orbiting satellites will show the aftermath with crystal clarity.

Finally, the bad news: 2007 WD5 has only a 1-in-75 chance of actually hitting Mars, which means astronomers would be wise to be pessimistic. But the possibility of impact calls to mind a loosely related incident that occurred almost exactly 100 years ago, when something exploded above the Tunguska region of Siberia, flattening trees in a 25-mile radius, their trunks pointing outward from the epicenter of the blast. Scientists are pretty sure it was a comet or asteroid — about the same size as 2007 WD5, as it happens — that disintegrated from its own shock wave as it plowed through the atmosphere. (UFO enthusiasts have long been convinced it was a flying saucer that somehow made it across trillions of miles of interstellar space safely, only to blow up above Russia.) The scientific explanation would account for the aerial explosion, and also the fact that no crater has been found.

Except that now maybe it has. An Italian team has measured seismic waves reflecting off a high-density spot in the bottom of the suspiciously crater-shaped Lake Cheko, which lies close to the event's ground zero. It could be a piece of the original object — and finding it could help investigators understand exactly what happened a century ago.If they find a burned-out flying-saucer engine, all bets are off.

Iran: Russia Denies Planning Missile System

A Russian government agency disputed reports that it had signed a contract to sell a sophisticated air-defense system to Iran, saying it had no such plans. This week, the Iranian defense minister, Mostafa Mohammad Najar, said that a contact had been signed and that Russia would equip Iran with S-300 missiles, which are used to shoot down planes and missiles. In a statement posted on its Web site, the Russian agency, the Federal Military and Technical Cooperation Service, flatly denied the Iranian claim. The issue of supplying Iran with S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems, raised by mass media, is not on the agenda, is not being considered and is not being discussed with the Iranian side at the moment, the statement said.

Currently, the system offers coverage of the entire Russian Federation, but with only 18 satellites.

British Council spat could hit EU-Russia ties: ambassador

MOSCOW (AFP) — Britain's envoy to Russia warned Saturday that plans to shut British cultural offices could hamper EU-Russia ties, but said London would not block talks on a new bilateral pact because of the dispute.It will be very difficult, I think, for the European Union to adopt this mandate instantly at a time when the British Council is under extreme pressure, because part of the European Union's relationship with Russia is a cultural relationship, Ambassador Anthony Brenton told Interfax news agency.

Russia has said it will in January shut down two branches of the British Council, which promotes British culture in Russia.Moscow says the move is motivated mainly by alleged tax irregularities, but has also explicitly described it as retaliation for diplomatic sanctions imposed by Britain over the investigation into the London murder of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko.Britain has rejected both motives.Despite the spat, Brenton said that London continues to support a new agreement between Brussels and Moscow.Britain has no intention of imposing a veto on the new talks, he said. We want a good, constructive, and forward-looking relationship between Russia and the European Union.

NATO to take charge of the Kosovo status definition is baseless, former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev said in an article published by the Saturday issue of the newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta.Representatives of the United States and certain EU member countries to the UN Security Council officially declared that all possibilities in the Kosovo dialog had been used and it would be senseless to carry on the negotiations.

They also said that the European Union and NATO would now be in charge of the Kosovo settlement. This is an unprecedented step; it is politically and morally baseless, he said. A precedent dangerous for international laws and international
security is being set at the end of the year. It may blast stability in certain parts of the world, he said.Kosovo is a part of Serbia by international law and resolutions of the UN Security Council, Gorbachev said.Never before two organizations have taken charge of the future of a country - Serbia - that is not a member of either of them, he said.

LJUBLJANA (AFP) – The Brdo pri Kranju castle, one of the residences of former Yugoslav leader Marshal Tito, will host most of the Eurpean Union’s meetings in Slovenia during the country’s presidency of the bloc, starting on January 1.Slovenia, a former Yugoslav republic that joined the EU in 2004, will be the first newcomer to hold the rotating six-month presidency and is expected to host about 150 meetings, including 14 ministerial ones, out of the 1,000 events EU officials usually hold in one semester.

The rest will take place in Brussels or Luxembourg.

Slovenia decided to hold most of their meetings at a single pleasant, accessible and easy-to-secure location and settled on Brdo pri Kranju, a Renaissance-style castle originally built in the 16th century, and which now boasts a stylish new congress center on its grounds to host the union’s meetings.Situated some 5 kilometers (3 miles) from Ljubljana airport, the idyllic castle is surrounded by 500 landscaped hectares (1,235 acres) at the foot of the Karavanken mountains. To Chip or Not To Chip

Dealing with Bible Prophecy, we as the watchmen and women on the wall continually keep our eyes and ears focused on events that take place around us and in the news. For the past 10 or so years many in the Bible Prophecy arena have been talking and speculating about a technology called the radio transponder Biochip. When this was unveiled everyone myself included said “This is it! This is the mark of the beast!

After countless hours of research, I feel that the implantable Biochip is NOT what the antichrist is going to use. But there is an upcoming technology which is related to the biochip that is taking the world by storm. So much so that superstore giant Walmart as well as the US Department of Defense have mandated that if you want to do business with them, you must comply with the new technology that they have just put in place. Enter RFID or Radio Frequency Identification.But before we delve more into RFID, lets look at what it says in scripture.

What is The Mark of The Beast?

The mark of the beast is referred to in scripture on eight different occasions. The place that draws the most attention is Revelation13:16-18,

And he causeth all, both small and great. rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads. And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, of the number of his name.
Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is six hundred threescore and six, 666.(KJV)

For many centuries the meaning of these passages was veiled in obscurity. It's interesting that after almost 2000 years these verses, like never before in all of human history, have started to really come into focus.

This in and of itself is fascinating in light of Daniel 12:4:

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, even to the time of end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

To fully understand the meaning, you must remember that the New Testament was written in Greek. The etymology of the word mark will shed great light on the actual, intended meaning.

The word mark, as used in Revelation 13:16-17, is the Greek word charagma. The root word of charagma is charasso, which means to engrave. Now, charagma is a Greek noun in the accusative neuter singular and is preceded by the Greek preposition epee, which means upon.

According to Strong's Concordance, the Greek word charagma means a scratch or etching, stamp a badge of servitude, graven mark. Derivatives of the word are: charakter- a graver, the figure stamped, i.e. an exact copy or representation, express image; charax- to sharpen to a point through the idea of scratching.

In Revelation 13 we see three components of the future new world order working in tandem under this future 666 Antichrist and his world system. Jeff Baker, political analyst, researcher, and journalist, in his excellent classic book, Cheque Mate, (p. 203) comments on the meaning and significance of 666.

I believe that the 666 is actually a combination of three sets of sixes. The first 6 represents man's political system, the second 6 represents the economic system of man, and the third represents the religious system of man. A very astute observation and that is exactly the three headed structure we find in Rev. 13. The 666 referred to in verse 18 is very significant, because in ancient times a person's name had a fixed numerical value. The reason for that: the letters of the alphabet were used for numbers. In scripture, 6 is the number representing man. The number 6 is also considered sacred by many new age and secret society groups, a triad, or 3, is God's number. So, the triple 6 (666) is the symbol of man making himself God. See Daniel 11:36 and 2 Thess. 2:4.

The number 666 is also the Greek word chi xi stigma. (Rev. 13:18)

Now when one looks up stigma in Strongs, this is what you find…

Strong's Concordance stigma: G5516- stigma The 22nd, 14th, and an obsolete letter of the Greek alphabet, used as numbers; denoting respectively 600, 60, and 6; 666 as a numeral-six hundred threescore and six.

Strong's Concordance stigma : G4742 stigma --from a prim. stizw stizo ( to stick; i.e. to prick- a mark incised or punched ) for recognition of ownership i.e. (fig.) scar of service- mark.

What Is a Biochip?

A Biochip / Verichip is an implantable radio frequency device that is about the size of a grain of rice. It is implanted subdermally through an injection during an outpatient procedure. It contains information about the patient's medical history which can then be obtained by passing an eternal scanner across the area of skin where the biochip / verichip has been inserted. The biochip / verichip is dormant under the skin until this external scanner passes radio frequency energy to it energizing the chip, which then emits a radio frequency signal containing the identification number of the chip. This identification number is transmitted to an FDA compliant secure data storage site via the telephone or internet and the medical information is then provided, helping the medical professional. Right now it only holds a small amount of data. However, Applied Digital Solutions are planning on adding sensors that will read your vital signs and a satellite receiver that can track where you are, much like digital angel. (1)

Here is some more interesting information about the Biochip. Dr. Daniel Man was awarded a patent for developing a microchip to be placed under the skin. Back in the 1990’s Peter LaLonde, producer and anchorman for This Week In Bible Prophecy had a fascinating interview with Dr. Man. Dr. Man who is also a Jew, stated that it is his desire to see every Israeli Jew have the microchip transponder that he developed implanted under their skin. The stated purpose: the end of kidnapping and terrorism, as each individual could be precisely located instantly.No one questions Dr. Man's intentions for the good of his fellow Israelis.

It also must be emphasized that technology-- in and of itself --is not evil. However, imagine Adolph Hitler with similar surveillance ID microchip capability at his disposal. What would he have done with it?

Problems with the Biochip

The prior definition above gives a good view of what the biochip is, but I want to take it a bit further. You see, I believe that the Mark of the Beast is 3 fold instrument of the antichrist. It is the proof of economic, political and religious allegiance.

1. You give your allegiance and soul an economical system.

2. You give your allegiance and soul a political system.

3. You give your allegiance and soul a religious system.

When the mark of the beast is put in place, the individual will accept whole heartedly and with his or her soul an economical, political and religious system. The mark of the beast must meet all three.

Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson has volunteered to get an RFID electronic chip implant to show the world just how safe the new technology is.

The former secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services in President Bush's first term sees it as a potentially life-saving move because the chip will have details of his medical history should he ever be in an accident.

Thompson will be among the first humans to get the chip. Pets have been routinely chipped at pounds and veterinarians' offices in recent years. (2)

In having a biochip implanted, Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson did not take the mark of the beast. The reason is that it did not meet all the necessary requirements that are needed to be The Mark of The Beast. He did not pledge his allegiance and his soul to a political system, economic system or religious system. Now I think that he was rather foolish in doing this, but he did not receive the mark of the beast.

The reason that I say that the implantable biochip is NOT the mark of the beast is for several reasons

1.I feel that when the mark is taken, it is something that the people of that time and of that mindset are going to be very proud to do. Remember that this will be a very powerful thing taking place. There will be religious ceremony, political pride etc. These individuals are giving their allegiance and soul to the anti-christ. The mere narcissistic nature of the anti-christ will not allow for anything else. He will want to rub this in God’s face. I can just hear him say See God, See! These are MY followers! NOT YOURS! So this will be something of major importance to the world and to the people in that time who take the mark.

2.The implantable biochip is something that is just as it is called, implanted. Meaning; that it is going to be placed deep under the surface of the skin. There is no sign of one taking the mark, no way to recognize a person who has the mark and no unity just because of an implant. Only way one knows if they have received a biochip / mark is if their biochip is “read” from a sensor or reader someplace.

3.The biochip in and of itself is not tamper proof and also there is no means for true authentication of the person and the biochip. It is only the biochip. Just imagine someone who is living during that time, they could find someone who had a chip, cut it out and presto, they can now move around freely although they would still need the chip to buy and sell.

4.Lithium leakage if capsule were broken could cause serious sores.

If it is not the Implantable Biochip, What is it then?

I remember seeing my first RFID about four years ago when I purchased a computer manual at Barnes and Nobel. (To those who are reading this outside the US, Barnes and Nobel is a book superstore.) I actually discovered it while reading the book. I knew what it was then when I saw it, but I really did not pay much thought to it at that time. You see, Barnes and Nobles were one of the first companies to adopt a RFID inventory & theft system. How do you think they are able to maintain such a huge stock as well as maintain a fair price?

It is in the summer 2004. The RFID industry was starting to pick up speed. There were more companies entering the market, more companies utilizing the technology. We fast forward to today. Tracye and I utilize a news program to stay up to the minute on what is going on in the world. One of the areas that we have been keeping an eye on for the last month or so is RFID. In researching back to 2004, you would see an article here, a press release there. Today, a new article or press release comes out almost every hour, RFID industry advances in technology, new business solutions, network architecture, etc. The RFID industry is moving at a faster rate than the dot com industry did in the past and everyone knows how fast and how often dot coms were in the news.

On Oct 23, 2005, the public was informed that all new US Passports will contain a RFID tag. (Drivers licenses are next)

In May 2005 a military spending bill was passed that included a little known law that was pretty much buried called Real ID Act.

Real ID: Big Brother Could Cost Big Money

Buried in an $82 billion military spending bill and passed without any congressional debate in May 2005, the Real ID Act was touted as an anti-terrorist and immigration reform bill…

Two main forms of protection are being considered: Magnetic stripes or two-dimensional (2-D) barcodes; and contactless integrated circuits such as radio frequency identification (RFID) chips.

If the government opts to require RFID chips, more than 196 million U.S. drivers will be forced to carry a license that has the memory to store every detail about the person, including health records, family history, bank and credit card transactions. Another pitfall is that information on RFID chips can be remotely accessed by unauthorized persons. (3)

What Is RFID?

RFID or Radio Frequency Identification is a cousin to the Implantable Radio Transponder Chip. The difference is that the chip has to be implanted; an RFID tag can be placed on just about any surface or embedded just below. Where the older Chip was incased in glass, the RFID no longer needs that.

Unlike ubiquitous UPC bar-code technology, RFID technology does not require contact or line of sight for communication. RFID data can be read through the human body, clothing and non-metallic materials.RFID is in use all around us. If you have ever chipped your pet with an ID tag, used EZPass through a toll booth, or paid for gas using SpeedPass, you've used RFID. In addition, RFID is increasingly used with biometric technologies for security verification.RFID is all around you and many of us did not even know that it was there. Imagine in the very near future you walk up to the cashier at your favorite superstore and the person behind the counter tells you, that is $45.19 please. And get this you have not even taken the items out of your basket yet. But that is ok, you tell the person behind the counter, thank you and tap your wallet on a little pad next to the credit card/debit card keypad and presto, your bill is paid. How can this happen? All the items in the store have a RFID tag that has been printed on the container or package, when you walked into the RFID sensor / reading zone, your items were instantly scanned and totaled. You quickly and conveniently paid with your visa, mastercard, or debt card that has a RFID tag imbedded. The new buzz word for this is called, Contactless Payment

The New Wave

Just as with the EZPass toll system for highways and bridges, or Exxon Mobil's SpeedPass for gas, the new contactless system uses radio frequency waves, or RFID, to transmit encoded information. You have to be very close to the receiver, but there's no need to give up your card to a clerk or insert it into a machine to read the magnetic stripe. And there's no need to dig for cash or coins.
It is the new wave, said Dave Jentsch, senior vice president of card products for HSBC Bank USA. People don't want to have to swipe a card and then wait to either sign a receipt or enter PINs. They want to get in, get out and pay quickly.Such contactless payments are the newest effort by banks, credit card companies and merchants to extend the reach of plastic payments and reduce Americans' reliance on cash. The goal is to make it possible to pay for small-dollar purchases by using credit or debit cards where they haven't been used before, but without tying up the consumer and merchant.

Banks and merchants say the electronic payments are faster, easy, more secure and more convenient than cash, and they're cheaper for the business to handle. And by accepting fast plastic for purchases, merchants hope to bring in more business -- and larger purchases -- from consumers who are in a hurry or who don't have enough cash on them.Those merchants recognize that people don't want to stand in line, said Tom O'Donnell, senior vice president of marketing for JPMorgan Chase's Card Services division. Customers will keep driving if the line is too long, if there's too many sets of taillights, or if there's too many people parked at the convenience store.

Why RFID?

There are many problems in the world that RFID could be touted as the solution to the problem.

1.Terrorism / border control – as we all know terrorism is on the rise. The ability to keep track of who enter and exit borders as well as keep tabs on individuals is a very high priority right now and will continue into the future.

2.Criminals – Criminal activity is also at an all time high, if criminals had RFID tags, then tracking these individuals would be possible. Not to say also that this would help in the fight against the very high rate of child abductions. Have all the sex offenders in the RFID database and when the sexual predator enters an area near a school, the police are informed and the perpetrator is picked up.

3.Control of goods / inventory – RFID controlled stores, such as Walmart, are showing a substantial increase in profits due to inventory control and theft. If one takes this one step more and implement Contactless Payment, retail and grocery stores can save millions in employee costs. If there is no need for a person to check you out at the store, then the store saves money.

4.Contactless Payment also solves a lot of the counterfeit money problem that the US as well as many other nations around the world have. In fact just recently North Korea created / counterfeited $100.00 dollar bills and were starting to put them into the market. Even with all the precautions that our currency has, it is still not totally copy proof.I think if you would look at the applications, you to can come up with many other uses that RFID can perform. The use for RFID in controlling goods, services and resources is endless.

My Speculation regarding RFID

I have been actively keeping an eye on the RFID industry these last few months as I have stated before. I would like to point out some press releases and news articles that have come out of the industry in just these last few weeks. Conductive inks - Conductive inks are used to produce conductive tracks for the manufacture of printed circuits, membrane switches or printed wiring boards (PCB, PWB) and for a wide variety of other uses such as intelligent packages, circuit components and antennae for radio frequency identification solutions,RFID Powder – The newest form of RFID tag is Creo’s Traceless® taggant. Traceless® is a powder that is mixed with ink or other fluid and applied to product packaging during manufacturing. Suspending the powder particles in fluid allows them to form a random pattern known as the taggant image signature. A computer records/retains this signature as the item’s unique identifier, like the EPC of traditional RFID…What really distinguishes Traceless® is that it is undetectable, making it virtually impossible to counterfeit or tamper with. Using proprietary methods, Creo mixes a ratio of taggant in solution that is too small to be perceived visually or chemically, and is detectable only by Traceless® readers.Fluidic Self Assembly - Fluidic Self Assembly that floats RFID chips in a water-based slurry. When the slurry is passed over tag material, the individual chips automatically settle into position.

RFID tags on flexible substances entirely by printing - Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) has developed a technique to fabricate RFID tags on flexible substrates entirely by printing. It utilizes a pressure annealing method, which can decrease the electrical resistance of antennas, wirings, and electrodes formed by screen printing by more than three orders of magnitude, and enables the fabrication of highly sensitive RF tags without high-temperature baking.

DNA-Enabled Security Holograms - The strategic combination of DNA-Hologram technologies and RFID, available from Holomex and Applied DNA Sciences in a single device opens major new opportunities for the packaging industry, increased protection for brands and greater safety for consumers. We are in active discussions with several of the largest firms in the packaging industry and our new products are receiving an extremely positive reception. (10)

RFID Network Architecture - Cisco Systems recently announced an Intelligent Foundation for Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to help enterprises introduce RF technologies into their supply chains to increase visibility into product information and optimize business flow for lower operating costs.

Central to Cisco RFID Solutions is the extension of Cisco AON to now include embedded RFID middleware functions into the network onto Cisco data center switches and branch office routers, leading to increased scalability, reduced deployment cost and more simplicity. The RFID-enabled Cisco AON modules can be installed throughout an enterprise's network. The AON modules can perform tasks like outbound encryption, digital signature and content-based routing when sharing data with external business partners. According to Cisco, by enabling localized event responses, customers can now optimize business application performance as well as maximize network value as they deploy current and future RFID applications across their enterprises.

Its solution is several thousand times more efficient than any currently available commercial security system and can also address other resource-constrained environments including smart cards and wireless devices. Initial target markets for SecureRF include applications for the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, and high value supply chains.

By now I think that you can see where I am going with this. But first of all, I want to put a disclaimer here and say that the above press releases and their companies are not covertly working with some sort of secret organization to create the mark of the beast. These are all companies that are on the fast track implementing a new technology and I applaud that. As stated above, I see a lot of good in RFID and it would solve a lot of problems. In the wrong hands, I see a lot of bad as well.

The above articles are footnoted at the end of this article and I advise you to read all the articles. All these leaps in the RFID industry has taken place in just the last several weeks. That is a lot of technology moving in one direction really fast. If you take all these latest developments and put them together, it is my opinion that you have the technology and makings for the mark of the beast.

Let me review here.

We read in Revelation 13:16-18 that the word mark literally means to be engraved upon. When computer chips are produced, the process is called chemically engraving upon a piece of silicon. I speculate that the mark of the beast will be some sort of engraving, chemical or other process that will create and bond down to the DNA level a RFID chip directly into the skin. It will become part of the skin and be flexible. With current technology the RFID chip is tamper proof, highly secure as well as can possibly be printed / engraved / tattooed onto the skin with a hologram which also creates another level of security and authentication. The mentioned technologies, if taken further and as the technologies grow, technology can produce that very effect which I speculate and present in this article. With a chip that is engraved, and bonded at the DNA level, the chip itself can draw power strait from the electrical current flowing through the body, thus creating an Active RFID tag that can be read and can communicate with RFID reading / sensing devices over 100 feet and quit possibly from satellite. Everyone will literally be part of the network.

In presenting this model, it also meets all 3 of the points that I make which encompasses the mark of the beast. Again those points are an economical, a political and a religious system all wrapped into one. By having some sort of holographic image on the right hand or forehead, there is also recognition and unity of the masses who take the mark. This also identifies those who have not taken the mark. My earnest hope is that many of you that took the time to read this information won't just let all this fall by the wayside. Right now you have two options. You have an opportunity to freely receive Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, or someday face a global tyrannical dictator who will demand the entire world to worship him and show allegiance to him by receiving his mark. This mark will reveal that you are owned by him; failure to comply will result in execution by beheading-Rev 20;4. I believe the first option is by far a better decision, don't you?

I would encourage you to not delay in receiving Christ as you Savior today if you have not already done so. He died for your sins, and rose from the dead. He offers you eternal life, but that's your choice to make. I hope you will consider doing that today.
