WHORE AND BEAST IN PEACE PROCESS

Well heres the headline I have been waiting for, since the World Church will be commiting fornication with the Kings of the Earth, the church has to be involved in the Peace Process, especially the Vatican. And since the EU DICTATOR and the false World Church Pope in the future will work hand in glove, real close, the Inter-Religious community has to be involved in the peace process.

And also if the Religious community would not be involved, the 3RD TEMPLE would not get rebuilt because the Secularists and leftists could care less if the 3RD TEMPLE BE REBUILT. Its the Religious Jews that will want the 3RD TEMPLE REBUILT.

REVELATION 17:1-13
1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.(VATICAN)
10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.
12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

Jewish ambassador urges religious role in Mideast peace
By JANICE ARNOLD ,Staff Reporter

MONTREAL - The Orthodox rabbi who is mandated to act as world Jewry’s ambassador to other religions told an international conference here that political leaders in the Middle East have made a fatal and tragic error in not recognizing the religious dimension to the conflict. There is a tendency to see religion as part of the problem and, therefore, to have nothing to do with it… They say you religious people keep away, you only make problems and mess things up, said Rabbi David Rosen, president of the Jerusalem-based International Jewish Committee on Interreligious Consultations, the umbrella organization that represents Jews in their relations with other religions.

But that is a fallacy. It fails to understand how profound religious identity is to the people involved. It can’t be ignored. If we don’t want religion to be the problem, we have to make it part and parcel of the solution. Rabbi Rosen was speaking a plenary session of World’s Religions After September 11: A Global Congress, a five-day conference that drew 2,000 participants from 35 countries,
representing more than 20 faiths and practices. He noted that in 1993, when Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and then-Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin shook hands on the White House lawn,“there was not one identifiable Palestinian Muslim religious figure or identifiable Israeli Jewish religious figure there.

The exclusion of religion from the Oslo process may have led to the dangerous
religionization of the renewed conflict that he said has taken place over the past six years. Religion is now being exploited to exacerbate the situation, when it could have been harnessed as a constructive force, Rabbi Rosen suggested.

Today, religious extremists are the ones who are being heard, he said. Political leaders should give moderate religious voices a place in the search for a solution, he said. Our spiritual identity should be seen as a blessing and not a curse. After 9/11, I think there is a glimmer of understanding of that, he said. Rabbi Rosen was an initiator of the Alexandria Summit, held in Egypt four years ago, the first time Muslim, Jewish and Christian leaders came together to approach the Middle East from an interfaith perspective. It had the endorsement of two enemies Arafat and Ariel Sharon, as well as the blessing of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, whom Rabbi Rosen described as having been hostile to introducing any religious element until then.

The British-born Rabbi Rosen, a former chief rabbi of Ireland, said it’s rare to find an Orthodox rabbi engaged in interreligious activity at any level, and that he is the subject of a great deal of criticism within my own community. Among his many achievements is being a founder of Rabbis for Human Rights. I’m criticized not because I care about Arab human rights, but because I’m working together with Reform rabbis,he said. This is the type of internecine nonsense that we have to move beyond. Sometimes I’m asked why I’m spending so much time with non-Jews. Well, it’s often much easier and nicer… It’s an easier task to be a foreign minister rather than a minister for home affairs.

He does see some progress, however. We managed to involve the whole spectrum of Orthodox rabbis and even ultra-Orthodox rabbis at the international conference of rabbis and imams [held in Seville earlier this year]. Many had never before met a person of a different faith. Rabbi Rosen believes that people of different religions have no choice but to dialogue, and that the three Abrahamic religions, and most Eastern religions, call upon their adherents to be merciful and compassionate. He conceded that this is easier said than done. When people feel wounded, it is more difficult for them to be compassionate. The answer is to treat them with more
compassion, in order that the overcome their woundedness and sense of alienation,
he said.

He stressed that everyone in the Middle East sees themselves as a victim. The Palestinians feel vulnerable to Israeli power. Israelis feel vulnerable in a sea of Arab hostility of which the Palestinians are fifth-columnists, and the Arab world feels demeaned and threatened by western culture and the failures of its own leadership. Everyone is waiting for the other side to take the initiative.
Rabbi Rosen said the people of the region must overcome the zero-sum mentality that support for one’s own group or partisan position requires insensitivity to others. While it’s true that the Torah gives Jews title to the land of Israel, Rabbi Rosen said, it does not confer the right to suppress the rights of others. That is against the fundamental principles of the Torah,he said.

A democratic and Jewish state is not a contradiction, he argued. In fact, if it was not democratic it could not be Jewish. The Torah makes clear that every person is made in the divine image and affirms the dignity of each person. Despite the ongoing conflict, Rabbi Rosen noted that interfaith activity is flourishing in Israel. He is a founder of the Interreligious Coordinating Council in Israel, which embraces about 70 organizations involved in interfaith relations. He said there should be more outside support for these activities. Rabbi Rosen is also an international president of the World Conference of Religion for Peace, which incorporates 15 religions in over 50 countries.

Another small quake hits Lake County, goes unnoticed by residents
Associated Press

PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Northeast Ohio has recorded another in a flurry of light earthquakes, but this time there were no reports of people feeling it, officials said.A 2.2-magnitude earthquake hit about two miles northeast of Painesville in Lake County Thursday morning, said Mike Hansen, the director of the Ohio Seismic Network. It was in the same area of the Lake Erie shoreline that has had 16 low-intensity earthquakes since November, he said.Researchers who measure the quakes with 25 remote sensors don't know what's causing the rash of small earthquakes, Hansen said. It's possible they've always occurred but there was no measuring equipment to detect them.

Before the latest earthquake, it had been a month since one had hit, Hansen said. The biggest of the recent earthquakes was recorded June 20 and measured 3.8. By comparison, the deadly quake that hit the Northridge area of Los Angeles in 1994 was a 6.7 magnitude.Lake County's quakes result from a fault, or crack, that is under pressure, one of a number of faults in Ohio, most of them under the sedimentary bedrock. The fault is under pressure from the East Coast, pushing westward, Hansen said.Lima in northwest Ohio was hit by small earthquakes in May and August, but Hansen said they were not related to the northeast Ohio quakes.ON THE NET:Ohio Seismic Network: http://www.ohiodnr.com/ohioseis

Weakened Gordon aims for Spain, Portugal

MIAMI / Tropical Storm Gordon, downgraded from a hurricane Wednesday, approached portions of Spain and Portugal as it moved rapidly away from the sparsely populated Azores Islands.Gordon was expected to join another weather system before it neared the Iberian peninsula later Wednesday or Thursday, said forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami. It would be similar to the strong winter storms normal in those areas in Europe. The Galicia region in northwest Spain has been placed on red alert the highest level and 11 other regions of Spain as far east as Madrid and south to Andalusia were put on lower levels of warning, said Angel Rivera, a spokesman for Spain's National Weather Institute.Galicia was scorched by forest fires last month, so crews set up barriers on coastal areas to keep ash from flowing into the Atlantic and damaging the region's lucrative fishing and seafood industry.

At 11 a.m. EDT, Gordon had top sustained winds of 60 mph, down from 75 mph earlier in the day. Hurricanes have winds of at least 74 mph. The storm was moving east near 33 mph and its center was about 625 miles west of Portugal's coast. In the Azores as a hurricane, Gordon moved between the islands of Sao Miguel and Santa Maria. The eye didn't make landfall and sustained wind of 56 mph was recorded on land, said Mark Willis, a meteorologist with the National Hurricane Center.Authorities in Portugal's islands said they received no reports of major damage or injury and hurricane warnings were discontinued in the sparsely populated chain.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Helene moved northeast in the open Atlantic and was expected to remain well east of Bermuda, forecasters said. It had top sustained winds of 105 mph.At 11 a.m., it was centered about 670 miles southeast of Bermuda and moving toward the northwest near 12 mph. A gradual turn to the north was expected, forecasters said. The Atlantic hurricane season began June 1 and ends Nov. 30. September is traditionally one of the busiest months of the season.

HYDERABAD, India/DHAKA, Sept 20 (Reuters) - Storms caused by a depression in the Bay of Bengal have killed more than 40 people in eastern India and Bangladesh and left hundreds of fishermen missing at sea, officials said on Wednesday.Thousands of people have been left homeless. Most of the deaths came in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, where heavy rains and strong winds caused flash floods. More than 31 people have been killed since Monday night, most from drowning and house collapses. In West Bengal state in India's east, at least 12 people were killed after a storm hit on Tuesday night. Hundreds of trawlers were reported missing and authorities said more 15,000 people had been left homeless.

Some people died in their sleep when their houses were hit by the storm,West Bengal government official Santanu Basu said.In Bangladesh, three fishermen drowned and more than 100 were unaccounted for and feared dead after they were caught in rough seas and strong winds on Tuesday night.A naval vessel with 40 crew ran aground at an island off Mongla port during the storm. The crew were rescued on Wednesday by a navy helicopter and three coastguard vessels. But the coast guard said it was waiting for the sea to calm before launching major rescue operations for the missing fishermen.Fishing groups said they feared bad news.

As per estimates available from returning fishing crew, we suspect more than 100 fishermen may have drowned, said Abdus Sobhan, president of the fishing boat owners association in the coastal town of Barisal, 225 km (130 miles) from Dhaka.

UN troop numbers reach 5,000 in Lebanon
(AFP),20 September 2006

NAQURA, Lebanon - The number of UN peacekeepers in Lebanon has climbed to 5,000, meeting a condition set by Israel to withdraw from its northern neighbor, a UN spokesman said on Wednesday.Israeli Defence Minister Amir Peretz confirmed the last soldiers would leave southern Lebanon by Friday, ending a two-month occupation launched during Israel’s offensive against Hezbollah guerrillas. We have reached the 5,000 troops. The first phase of the UNIFIL deployment is now completed, said Alexander Ivanko, spokesman for the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, which aims to build up a contingent of 15,000 soldiers. The pre-war number of about 2,000 UNIFIL troops, he told AFP, had now been boosted by three new battalions from France, Italy and Spain, although it would still take weeks for all the new land-based troops to be deployed in the south.

Troops from other countries, notably Indonesia, would follow in October and November, he said, warning that the operation was posing a logistical nightmare for UNIFIL.Israeli forces have remained in south Lebanon for more than a month after an August 14 ceasefire came into effect ending the deadly 34-day war between the Jewish state and Shia guerrillas of Hezbollah.Israeli troops have gradually redeployed south of the volatile border as the French-led UNIFIL forces and the Lebanese army assume control in southern Lebanon the latter for the first time in four decades. The French battalion in UNIFIL on Wednesday deployed another 10 Leclerc battle tanks in south Lebanon, completing its consignment of 13 of the tanks appearing for the first time in UN colours.

The high-tech Leclerc has been deployed abroad only once before, as part of French forces operating under NATO in Kosovo in 1999-2002.The reinforced French battalion now numbers 900 soldiers, who landed at Beirut port last week. Their contribution to UNIFIL is to rise to a total of 2,000 men.

At U.N., Chavez calls Bush the devil
By KIM GAMEL Associated Press Writer
© 2006 The Associated Press

UNITED NATIONS / Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez took his verbal battle with the United States to the floor of the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday, calling President Bush the devil. The impassioned speech by the leftist leader came a day after Bush and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sparred over Tehran's disputed nuclear program but managed to avoid a personal encounter. The devil came here yesterday,Chavez said, referring to Bush's address on Tuesday and making the sign of the cross. He came here talking as if he were the owner of the world.Chavez, who has joined Iran in opposing U.S. influence, accused Washington of domination, exploitation and pillage of peoples of the world.

We appeal to the people of the United States and the world to halt this threat, which is like a sword hanging over our head, he said.

He also said the U.N. doesn't work in its current system and is antidemocratic. He called for reform, saying the U.S. government's immoral veto had allowed recent Israeli bombings of Lebanon to continue unabated for more than a month.Chavez spoke on the second day of the annual ministerial meetings, which were overshadowed by an ambitious agenda of sideline talks. The Mideast peace process also was in the spotlight, with ministers from the Quartet that drafted the stalled road map the U.S., the U.N., the European Union and Russia planning to meet. The Security Council also was scheduled to hold a ministerial meeting Thursday that Arab leaders hope will help revive the Mideast peace process.

Bush tried to advance his campaign for democracy in the Middle East during his address to the General Assembly on Tuesday, saying extremists were trying to justify their violence by falsely claiming the U.S. is waging war on Islam. He singled out Iran and Syria as sponsors of terrorism.Bush also pointed to Tehran's rejection of a Security Council demand to stop enriching uranium by Aug. 31 or face the possibility of sanctions. But he addressed his remarks to the Iranian people in a clear insult to the government.

The greatest obstacle to this future is that your rulers have chosen to deny you liberty and to use your nation's resources to fund terrorism and fuel extremism and pursue nuclear weapons, the U.S. leader said.Iran must abandon its nuclear weapons ambitions, he said. Despite what the regime tells you, we have no objection to Iran's pursuit of a truly peaceful nuclear power program.

He said he hoped to see the day when you can live in freedom, and America and Iran can be good friends and close partners in the cause of peace.Ahmadinejad took the podium hours later, denouncing U.S. policies in Iraq and Lebanon and accusing Washington of abusing its power in the Security Council to punish others while protecting its own interests and allies. The hard-line leader insisted that his nation's nuclear activities are transparent, peaceful and under the watchful eye of inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the U.N. nuclear watchdog. He also reiterated his nation's commitment to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.Earlier this month, Ahmadinejad proposed a debate with Bush at the General Assembly's ministerial meeting after the White House dismissed a previous TV debate proposal as a diversion from serious concerns over Iran's nuclear program.

But even though the two leaders spoke from the same podium, they skipped each other's addresses and managed to avoid direct contact during the ministerial meeting. Also on Wednesday, Afghan President Hamid Karzai warned that terrorism is rebounding in his country and said efforts to build democracy there had suffered setbacks over the past year as violence increased, especially in the volatile south. We have seen terrorism rebounding as terrorists have infiltrated our borders to step up their murderous campaign against our people,he told the General Assembly. He said the situation was so bad it had contributed to a rise in polio from four cases in 2005 to 27 this year because health workers were unable to reach the region. But he said the problem had to be fought beyond Afghanistan's borders as well as within. We must look beyond Afghanistan to the sources of terrorism,he said.We must destroy terrorist sanctuaries beyond Afghanistan. He also expressed concern about the increased incidents of Islamophobia in the West, saying it does not bode well for the cause of building understanding and cooperation across civilizations.

The crisis in the ravaged Sudanese region of Darfur also was on the agenda Wednesday, with the African Union's Peace and Security Council meeting to discuss breaking the deadlock over a plan to replace an AU force with U.N. peacekeepers. The Sudanese president said his country won't allow the United Nations to take control of peacekeepers in Darfur under any circumstance, claiming that rights groups have exaggerated the crisis there in a bid for more cash. But Omar al-Bashir did say that the African Union, which now runs the peacekeeping mission in Darfur, should be allowed to augment its forces with more logistics, advisers and other support. We want the African Union to remain in Darfur until peace is re-established in Sudan,al-Bashir said at a news conference. Those comments suggest that the African Union will not face any resistance in renewing the peacekeeping force's mandate, which expires Sept. 30.AP Writer Ian James contributed to this story.

Israel Targets Alleged Iranian Funding of Palestinian Terror
By Robert Berger ,Jerusalem,20 September 2006(VOA)

An Israeli sweep in the West Bank has targeted alleged funding for Palestinian terrorism. Israel is accusing Iran of trying to increase its influence in the cash strapped Palestinian territories. Palestinians sit in front of damaged currency exchange office raided by Israeli army in Ramallah, Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006 Israeli troops raided the homes and offices of 14 Palestinian money changers in four West Bank towns, confiscating nearly $1.5 million. The army said the money came mostly from Iran and was earmarked for terrorism. It said the cash traveled through Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah offices in Syria and Lebanon. Palestinian militant groups were allegedly using the money to produce explosives belts, rockets and car bombs. Israeli spokesman Mark Regev says Israel wants to make sure. That that money won't come back to haunt us all in suicide bombings,he said.

Israel says Iran has been increasingly supporting terrorism in the Palestinian territories since the election of the Islamic militant group Hamas in January. Hamas, which seeks Israel's destruction, has sought alternative funding because it is broke in the wake of international sanctions. No one wants to deal with this Hamas regime, which is of course very extreme and refuses to renounce terrorism,Regev said. But while money may be reaching militants, most ordinary Palestinians are in financial straits. Hamas has been unable to pay the salaries of 165,000 government employees for six months and Israel fears a humanitarian crisis. Regev says it's a dilemma.

And I think the challenge that we have now is to create a mechanism whereby there is direct support for the Palestinian people and, at the same time, that that mechanism will bypass the Hamas government, he said. While Palestinians initially blamed Israel and the United States for the economic crisis, their anger is now directed toward the Hamas government. Civil servants and school teachers have been on strike for three weeks, demanding their salaries.

Hezbollah preparing to celebrate divine victory over Israel
Sep 20, 2006, 16:13 GMT

Beirut - The Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah continued Wednesday preparations to celebrate what they described as 'divine victory' over against Israel. Although it was unclear whether Hezbollah chief Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah would attend, preparations for the massive rally on Friday were under way amid very tight security. Nasrallah is regarded by Israel as a top enemy. Nasrallah announced the rally earlier this week in a televised speech. Hezbollah press officer Hussein Rahal said the rally was being prepared in an open site inside Beirut's southern suburbs.

Nasrallah has not been seen in public since hostilities broke out after Hezbollah's capture of two Israeli soldiers on July 12. But the Hezbollah chief has made several appearances in interviews on Arab satellite television channels. We are preparing for the big day, the celebration for the big victory against the American and Zionist plots in Lebanon, said Alia Zeineddine, a Hezbollah follower.

Pictures of Nasrallah were erected all over Beirut's southern suburbs, a Hezbollah hotbed, with posters proclaiming a 'divine victory' covered the roads leading to Beirut international airport. The celebration was going ahead in a district that suffered massive damage from daily Israeli raids. Hezbollah says around 15,000 apartment buildings were destroyed. It offered 12,000 dollars for each each damaged apartment to enable the people to rent a house for one year and buy furniture.

Hezbollah and Israeli troops engaged in fierce fighting for 33 days until a UN-brokered ceasefire was implemented on August 14. More than 1,000 Lebanese, mostly civilians, were killed and 3,000 wounded. © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur

Hurricanes Gordon, Helene poised to strike Atlantic islands Sept 18

MIAMI (AFP) - Hurricane Gordon was speeding toward the Azores Islands, while Helene, a powerful Category Three hurricane, could swipe the Bermudas later this week, the US National Hurricane Center said.

Packing maximum sustained winds near 160 kilometers (100 miles) per hour, Gordon, a Category Two hurricane in the five-category Saffir-Simpson scale, was located 1140 kilometers (710 miles) west of the Azores, at 0600 GMT, the Miami-based center said.It was moving eastward at a brisk 44 kilometers (28 miles) per hour.

A hurricane warning is in effect for all of the Azores Islands, the center said.Although some slow weakening is possible during the next 24 hours, Gordon is still expected to be a hurricane as it passes near or across the Azores Islanes by late Tuesday or early Wednesday, it added.Large and dangerous battering waves along with storm surges of one to three feet (30-90 centimeters) are possible, the center warned, adding that the hurricane was expected to dump from five to 10 centimeters (two to four inches) of rain over the islands, and up to 15 centimeters (six inches) over higher terrain.Meanwhile, Helene, the eighth named storm and fourth hurricane of the 2006 Atlantic season, was about 1,590 kilometers (990 miles) east-southeast of Bermuda at 0300 GMT, the center said.

The hurricane was packing winds of 185 kilometers (115 miles) per hour, with higher gusts and conditions appear favorable for strengthening during the next 24 hours, the center said.

The forecast puts Helena some 500 kilometers (310 miles) east of Bermuda by Thursday or Friday, with a 10 to 20 percent possibility the islands will be buffeted by tropical storm force winds.Helene was a Category Three hurricane in the Saffir-Simpson scale.

Portugal's mid-Atlantic Azores brace for tropical storm Mon Sep 18, 3:25 PM ET

LISBON (AFP) - Portugal's mid-Atlantic Azores islands braced for strong winds, tidal surges and torrential rain after the national weather office warned that a tropical storm was heading towards the archipelago. Hurricane Gordon was expected to be downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it hits the nine-island chain, about 1,200 kilometres (750 miles) west of mainland Portugal, on Tuesday evening due to its movement over colder waters, the office said on its Internet site. The storm was expected to batter the islands until Wednesday with sustained winds of 100 kilometres an hour, with gusts up to 150 kilometres an hour, the possibility of
thunderstorms and 10- to 12-metre swells.Air and maritime travel on the islands, which is home to around 250,000 people, was expected to be disrupted by the storm, the weather office said.

Emergency services boosted the number personnel who will be on call and advised residents to close doors and windows, clear storm sewers, move livestock to safe areas and lock away farm equipment and garbage bins. The head of the Azores' firefighting and civil protection service, Antonio Cunha, asked local authorities to close all schools on the archipelago as a precautionary measure.

Many children leave home early to go to school, traveling great distances by car,he told the Lusa news agency. The two westernmost islands in the archipelago, Corvo and Flores islands, were forecast to take the brunt of the storm.

The weather office put the two islands on red alert, the highest level of the country's four-level weather alert scale which warns that weather conditions pose a high risk. The remaining seven islands remained on at the lowest alert level.

Group threatens Christians in Gaza From correspondents in Gaza City
September 20, 2006 04:23am

A PREVIOUSLY unknown group called the Mahdi Army today threatened to target Christians in the Gaza Strip unless the Vatican apologised for comments made by Pope Benedict XVI.All the crusaders in the Gaza Strip will be targets, all crusader meeting places will be targets, including churches, institutions and their homes until the cursed and unholy Vatican apologises to Muslims, it said. We will strike all those who protect them with an iron fist, said the group in a statement handed out in Gaza City, alluding to an increased security force presence around Palestinian churches. In a traditional blessing on Sunday (local time), the Pope said he was deeply sorry that remarks, in which he spoke of a link between Islam and holy war, had caused distress in the Muslim world. Palestinian interior minister Said Siam has said that security will be stepped up around churches in Gaza Strip and West Bank.

Several churches in the occupied West Bank and another in Gaza City have been targeted since the furore broke out over the Pope's comments. In a speech in Germany last Wedneday, the Pontiff spoke of a link between Islam and jihad, and quoted a 14th-century Byzantine emperor who said innovations introduced by the Prophet Mohammed were evil and inhuman. His remarks have sparked a backlash throughout the Muslim world, including in the Palestinian territories where there is a minority Christian population.

EURODAC: the European Union-wide biometric database
Basileio De Rolia, 19/9/2006,15:00

Part of the European Union's Common European Asylum System, EURODAC is an EU-wide fingerprint database for the comparison of the fingerprints of asylum seekers and illegal entrants, to help determine which Member State should examine an asylum
application. The Commission published the third annual report on the activities of EURODAC today.

The report gives essential information on patterns of asylum seeking and illegal entry in the EU and shows that 16% of all applications in 2005 were 'multiple applications' asylum claims where the same person has already made an application in the same country or in another Member State.

In 2005, EURODAC processed 187.223 sets of fingerprints of asylum seekers, 25.162 sets of fingerprints of people crossing the borders irregularly and 46.299 sets of fingerprints of people apprehended while illegally staying on the territory of a Member State.

The EURODAC Central Unit which manages the central system was operational for 99.9% of the reporting period, operating 24/24 hours and 7/7 days. The Commission will shortly issue a report on the evaluation of the Dublin system, which legally determines which Member State is responsible for the examination of an asylum application and makes arrangements for their return there, and of which EURODAC forms an essential part.Further information: Eurodac.Basileio De Rolia,basileios@gmail.com,Freelance Journalist

China, EU sign agreement on trade security
www.chinaview.cn 2006-09-20 04:30:03

BRUSSELS, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- China and the European Union(EU) vowed on Tuesday to enhance their cooperation on trade security and facilitation by signing a deal to establish smart and safe trade lanes in a bid to boost trade while countering the threats of piracy and terrorism. The scheme will start with a pilot project focusing on sea containers transport between Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Felixstowe in Britain, and the southern Chinese port of Shenzhen, Chinese customs officials said.

A smart examining and monitoring system using high-tech electronic devices will be developed to minimize the risks of counterfeit goods and make the process of going through customs quicker and cheaper, they said.

According to Tuesday's deal, a steering group comprising representatives of the customs authorities of China, the EU, the Netherlands and Britain will be set up to guide the pilot project and see to its implementation. The EU is China's biggest trading partner, and enhancing customs cooperation with the EU is very important to China,Mu Xinsheng, Minister of China's General Administration of Customs, told reporters at the EU headquarters in Brussels.

Mu met with EU Taxation and Customs Union Commissioner Laszlo Kovacs on Monday to discuss closer cooperation between the two sides. On Tuesday he and Kovacs attended a meeting of the China-EUJoint Customs Cooperation Committee, which focused on protection of intellectual property rights and trade security. Nowadays customs authorities have to deal with both conventional and unconventional security threats, such as terrorism,Mu said, adding that the pilot project is a big step towards achieving better security of trade between China and the EU.

EU Taxation and Customs Union Commissioner Laszlo Kovacs said nowadays both the EU and China face global challenges like international terrorism, violation of intellectual property rights, and counterfeit. Therefore the pilot project is of great importance,he said, adding that the role of customs is both to facilitate and to secure the supply chain.

The pilot project is of limited scope, but we hope that one day it would be extended to all member states of the EU and China,Kovacs said. Since the entry into force in April 2005 of the China-EU Agreement on Customs Cooperation and Mutual Administrative Assistance, the EU and China have deepened their cooperation to step up the fight against counterfeiting and piracy, to facilitate trade and to increase security. An China-EU Joint Customs Cooperation Committee was set up to meet regularly to discuss problems encountered in bilateral customs cooperation.

Customs administrations of the EU and China exchange experience and develop best practices with a view to secure and facilitate trade between them. The pilot project should test security from the point of the stuffing throughout the entire journey of the container until its final destination, the European Commission said. Enditem

Weeks-Old Wildfire Still Burns Near LA
Tuesday, September 19, 2006,By CHRISTINA ALMEIDA, Associated Press Writer (FOX NEWS)

OJAI, Calif. — Erratic winds pushed a stubborn, two-week-old wildfire toward a rural community in the Los Padres National Forest, threatening about 170 people living in scattered ranch homes near the northern edge of the blaze. The fire has scorched more than 125 square miles, or 80,111 acres, of chaparral and timber since it was ignited Labor Day by someone burning debris in the forest, 75 miles northwest of Los Angeles. It was 15 percent contained late Monday, said Bruce Emmens, a U.S. Forest Service spokesman. The fire doubled in size over the weekend, fanned by gusty Santa Ana winds. But a cool, moist ocean breeze slowed the fire and put communities that were still several miles away out of immediate danger.

Counting on help from shifting winds, teams of firefighters trekked into the remote forest to carve fire lines in an effort to prevent flames from roaring toward several mountain communities, including Ojai, an artists'enclave popular with tourists. At one point, the blaze crept within 12 miles of Ojai. Authorities had advised precautionary evacuation of about 350 homes in the area over the weekend, but the threat had been greatly reduced by Monday, said U.S. Forest Service Capt. Mark Whaling.

It never came down into the communities like we feared it might. We didn't have the winds we were expecting,he said.More than 2,100 firefighters hoped to take advantage of the break in the weather, which was expected to last until the middle of the week. The fire, which has cost nearly $18 million to fight, scorched a condor sanctuary in part of the Sespe Wilderness, and state Fish and Game officials were closely watching a condor fledgling that hatched in May. The bird was last seen Friday in a high, rocky area that was not in imminent danger, officials said.

Meanwhile, firefighters took control of two desert wildfires eight miles apart, which forced the temporary evacuation of about 2,500 residents over the weekend. Two homes were destroyed by one of those blazes.

ROMANS 1:18-32
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:(SEX SINS)
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman,(HOMOSEXUALITY) burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.(AIDS ETC)
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

Shame march (SODOMITES) gets green light
By Stan Goodenough,September 18, 2006

A homosexual organization in Jerusalem is determined to ensure that a twice-cancelled public parading of perverse sexual lifestyles through the streets of the sacred city will take place after all.The fact that the Gay shame event will offend millions of Jews and Christians has only served to intensify the efforts of the Open House, which successfully persuaded Israel's High Court of Justice to rule that the march will now be held on Friday, November 10.

On that day, the tens of thousands of Jerusalemites who normally use Friday to prepare for Shabbat will have to ensure that they and their children are off the streets if they do not wish to be exposed to half-naked men kissing each other, and gyrating women embracing, in the city Israel's God chose to call His own.By given the event its blessing, the High Court has helped promote and protect a lifestyle that holds untold numbers of people prisoner. And it has aided and abetted those who have made their goal the perversion and imprisonment of our youth.

Well the Ladies actions works again. On Israel National Radio Sunday morning, I was listening to Natia Matar co-founder of Women in Green who was talking about this young Israeli 15 year old Girl who was in Jail for dumping a pale of Olives on the ground. I could not believe what I was hearing, A girl thrown in Jail for dumping olives on the ground, what is the world coming to. But thank goodness for natia putting on the Women of Green site to fax the jail to have her released, and it worked, she is now out as you will read.

Court Orders Girl Released from Prison
By Hillel Fendel(INN)

Dozens of protest faxes apparently did the trick, and Tirtzah Sariel, 15, was abruptly feed from prison today, after weeks of wrongful imprisonment. Her parents were notified last night that she would be brought to the District Court in Jerusalem this morning at 10:30, before Justice Noam Solberg. The case had been running until now in the lower-level Magistrates Court.Tirtzah's next scheduled court date, as of yesterday, was several weeks from now, well after the Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Simchat Torah holidays. Until then, she was to have remained in prison - for having fought with Arab olive-pickers.

Justice Solberg ruled today that the girl must be immediately freed from jail - but the prosecution asked for 24 hours in which to appeal the decision. Shmuel Medad, head of the Honenu civil rights organization, predicted that it was possible the request would be withdrawn shortly afterwards, and within an hour, he was proved right. The judge said that even were Tirtzah to be convicted of the crime of which she was originally arrested for pouring out an Arab bucket of olives she would have sat in prison for less time than she has already been there.

Tirtzah refused to sign any papers in connection with the case, saying she does not recognize a Jewish court system that does not operate according to Jewish Law.

Tirtzah's mothe, who was present at the court hearing, told Arutz-7 afterwards, The prosecutor, in a last-ditch attempt to save face for the Prosecution, gave a whole lecture saying that she had to be punished for not recognizing the court system.

It just shows that she was in prison for two and a half months all because she has different opinions than they do! An impromptu welcome-home party will be held at Tirtzah's home in Elon Moreh, with many of her friends who visited and spoke to her by phone in prison over the past weeks. Nadia Matar, co-founder of Women in Green, wrote an article on Arutz-7's Hebrew website last week, calling for faxes to be
sent to the Commission of Public Complaints against Judges.

Matar explained, We must complain that Justice Ori Ben-Dor acted unlawfully by not speeding up the legal proceeding in the case, and by allowing a 15-year-old girl to rot in prison for four months until the next scheduled court session.Even the prosecutor in the case said, at a recent session, that a four-month hiatus before the next session was too long for a 15-year-old girl, but the judge said, I'm not interested.

MY ENCOUNTER MIRACLE WITH GOD

I never really looked into how serious Reumatic Fever really was untill now. Now I know why JESUS was praying for me in my room on that certain night.

When I was 6 years old, (1966) I remember I was on the couch sore and a fever. I did not have a clue what it was. I was in the Hospital for 2 months I remember, It was over Christmas as well. I'm not sure when I went back home. One thing I do remember though was I had to take this Medicine that tasted like Coconut. That i remember clearly : yuk.

Now the encounter with God happened after I was at home from the Hospital. I can not remember how long after, but I was at my Home.

One night I went to bed, then during the night sometime I woke up, looked to the left side of the room and half way up the wall Jesus was praying for me, He never said a word, he was just Praying for me. His faced looked like the face on the Shroud of turin. He had a beautiful white Robe on with beautiful colors coming from his chest to his stomach. I do not know how long I watched him praying for me or how he left. I just remember KING JESUS praying for me.

I just do not know why he never said anything to me. I was always wishing he would have spoke with me. And I have always had the feeling if JESUS would not have been there that night I would have died. I give JESUS (GOD) ALL THE PRAISE AND GLORY FOR HEALING ME.

Now use know why I have no problem believing theres a GOD in Heaven whos in control of everything. And I want to prove to the World (GOD) KING JESUS will fulfill all the prophecies in the Bible in these last days. He will return for us in the clouds literally and 7 years later he will come back to Earth Bodily to rule and reign forever.

I PRAY COME QUICKLY LORD JESUS.

If anyone has a miracle like this lets give GOD the praise and glory by letting other people know about it. Put your miracles under comments so other people can read them. OUR GOD OF ISRAEL IS AN AWESOME GOD.

Rheumatic fever
From MayoClinic.com
Special to CNN.com

Overview

Rheumatic fever is a serious inflammatory condition that can affect many parts of your body — heart, joints, nervous system and skin. Although rheumatic fever can occur at any age, it most frequently occurs in children between the ages of 6 and 15 years. The disease is twice as common in females as it is in males.Symptoms of rheumatic fever generally appear within five weeks after an untreated streptococcal (strep) throat infection. Most cases of strep throat don't lead to rheumatic fever. In fact, even in untreated cases, only a small percentage of people with strep throat develop rheumatic fever. In many cases, rheumatic fever may affect the heart valves (rheumatic carditis) and interfere with normal blood flow through the heart. There's no cure for rheumatic fever. But it can be prevented by prompt and thorough treatment of a strep throat infection with antibiotics.Rheumatic fever isn't as common in the United States today as it was at the start of the 20th century, before the widespread use of the antibiotic penicillin. Outbreaks do occur periodically, however. Rheumatic fever is still common in developing countries.

Signs and symptoms

Common signs and symptoms of a strep infection include:

Sore throat
Red and swollen tonsils
Fever
Headache
Muscle aches
Many times, however, the initial strep infection may not cause any symptoms.

Signs and symptoms of rheumatic fever may include a combination of painful, swollen joints, chest pain, fatigue and shortness of breath. In diagnosing rheumatic fever, doctors generally look for the presence of either two of the following major criteria or the presence of one major plus two minor criteria. In all cases, evidence of a preceding strep throat infection is key to making a diagnosis of rheumatic fever.

Major criteria

Inflammation of your heart, sometimes indicated by weakness and shortness of breath or chest pain. Your doctor might suspect heart inflammation based on a physical exam or on results of medical tests such as an electrocardiogram or a chest X-ray.
Painful arthritis, most often affecting your ankles, wrists, knees and elbows, and often migrating from joint to joint.
Involuntary jerky movements of your limbs and face or more subtle movement difficulties, such as definite deterioration in handwriting. These signs usually disappear over weeks to months.
Broad, pink or faint-red, nonitching patches on your skin (uncommon).
Lumps under your skin (uncommon).
Minor criteria

Joint pain without inflammation
Fever
Previous rheumatic fever or evidence of rheumatic heart disease
Abnormal heartbeat on an electrocardiogram
Blood test indicating inflammation
New heart murmurs
Sore throat
Fever

Causes

The exact cause of rheumatic fever isn't clear. In a few people, it seems that when the body fights a strep throat infection, other parts of the body develop inflammation. For example, the heart valves aren't necessarily infected with the streptococcal bacteria, but they can be injured or inflamed as the body fights strep throat.Medical research has focused on an abnormal immune system response to the antigens produced by specific types of streptococcal bacteria. One possible cause for this is the similarities between streptococcal antigens and heart valve proteins and heart muscle cells. In addition, researchers are studying whether some people have a greater genetic disposition for an abnormal immune system response to streptococcal antigens.

When to seek medical advice

If you have a sore throat along with a fever that has lasted more than 24 hours — or a severe sore throat without cold symptoms and without much fever, especially if you've been close to someone with strep throat — see your doctor to determine whether you have strep throat. Although most of the time strep throat doesn't lead to rheumatic fever, you can usually prevent rheumatic fever by using antibiotics to treat strep throat. Also see your doctor if you've recently had a sore throat and high fever and you're experiencing difficulty breathing or chest pain.

Screening and diagnosis

If you or your child has signs or symptoms of rheumatic fever, diagnosis will likely involve a physical examination and questions by your doctor regarding these signs and symptoms. The physical exam may include:

Checking your joints for pain and inflammation
Examining your skin for rashes or lumps
Listening to your heart for abnormal rhythms or murmurs
Your doctor may recommend an electrocardiogram (ECG) of your heart to check for abnormal rhythms. Electrocardiography involves attaching electrode patches to your skin to measure electrical impulses given off by your heart. The electrical impulses, which cause your heart muscle to contract, are recorded by an electrocardiograph machine. They typically are recorded in the form of waves, which are displayed on graph paper or on a monitor.

No laboratory test can confirm that you have rheumatic fever. Doctors base a diagnosis of rheumatic fever on the presence of several major and minor criteria. The most common major criteria are:

Joint pain and swelling that migrates from joint to joint
Inflammation of the heart
Diagnosing rheumatic fever requires not only the presence of key signs and symptoms but also evidence of a recent strep infection. Your doctor may take a blood sample to test for the presence of antibodies to streptococcal bacteria. However, it's possible that by the time you see your doctor, your throat culture test for strep will be negative. In that case, the only suggestion of strep may be you telling your doctor about a recent sore throat accompanied by fever.

Electrocardiogram: Tracing the electrical path through the heart

Complications

During a first rheumatic fever attack, about half of people develop heart inflammation, but this doesn't always result in permanent damage. Most people with rheumatic fever recover fully after six weeks. In some cases, however, one or more of the heart's valves may be scarred. Permanent heart damage due to rheumatic fever is known as rheumatic heart disease. In many cases, heart damage isn't discovered until years later. In rare cases of rheumatic fever, the inflammation causes so much damage to the heart muscle that it leads to congestive heart failure. In other cases, a scarred heart valve may prevent adequate blood flow or may permit backward flow of blood. If there's serious impairment to the function of your heart valves, surgery may be needed to repair or replace the damaged valve or valves.

Rheumatic fever can also affect these parts of your body:

Joints. Often, several joints are affected with painful swelling, redness and sensation of heat.
Brain. If acute rheumatic fever affects the brain, loss of coordination and uncontrolled movement of the limbs and face may occur. These movements are called chorea — from the Greek word choreia, which means choral dance. They're also sometimes called Sydenham's chorea, rheumatic chorea or St. Vitus' dance. Chorea occurs in about one in 10 rheumatic fever cases. Chorea usually subsides or disappears within weeks to months. Skin. The disease can produce broad patches or, irregularly, round, pink to faint-red areas on your skin (erythema marginatum). Lumps or nodules may occur beneath normal-appearing skin.

Heart failure

Treatment

Treatment of rheumatic fever involves a dual approach:

Antibiotics to rid your body of the streptococcal infection and prevent recurrences. To eliminate any remaining strep bacteria once you have rheumatic fever, your doctor may prescribe penicillin or another antibiotic. Usually, you'll then need to take additional antibiotics for several to many years to prevent additional attacks of rheumatic fever. Without continued antibiotic treatment, recurrence is common during the first three to five years after the initial infection. Other medications to ease the symptoms of the disease. To reduce inflammation of your heart or joints, your doctor may recommend specific doses of aspirin or an over-the-counter or prescription nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication. For severe heart inflammation, a corticosteroid medication, such as prednisone, can reduce the inflammation.

Prevention

Preliminary drug trials show potential for a vaccine to prevent strep. But until an effective immunization is developed, the only known way to prevent rheumatic fever is to treat strep throat infections with antibiotics.

Most of the time, a virus is the cause of a sore throat, and viruses don't lead to rheumatic fever. However, a sore throat with fever lasting more than 24 hours may indicate a strep infection. Only a small percentage of people with untreated strep throat will develop rheumatic fever. Prompt and proper treatment of strep throat with antibiotics can prevent strep throat from progressing to rheumatic fever.

Hurricane Helene could menace Bermuda Mon Sep 18,

MIAMI - Hurricane Helene continued to gain strength as a Category 3 storm in the open Atlantic on Monday, and forecasters said it could threaten Bermuda at the end of the week. It was too soon to tell whether Helene would hit Bermuda, but the storm with top sustained winds of 125 mph was expected to be near the island Friday, said Chris Landsea, a meteorologist with the National Hurricane Center in Miami.Helene strengthened late Sunday into the second major hurricane of the Atlantic season with 115 mph winds and intensified even more early Monday. Major hurricanes are those Category 3 and higher.

At 11 a.m. EDT, it was centered about 900 miles east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands and about 1,090 miles east-southeast of Bermuda.

It was moving northwest at 9 mph and was expected to make a gradual westward turn but remain over open waters, forecasters said.Meanwhile, Hurricane Gordon picked up speed over the open Atlantic. The hurricane could pass over the Azores as a weaker storm sometime midweek, so forecasters said a tropical storm watch or warning may be required later Monday for the islands in the central Atlantic. It was centered about 1,125 miles west of the Azores and moving northeast near 20 mph, up from 14 mph Sunday. Gordon, the other storm to reach Category 3 status this year, had top sustained winds near 90 mph Monday.

The National Hurricane Center's latest forecast for the Atlantic season expects between seven and nine hurricanes, a slight reduction from earlier predictions. Scientists have said that weak El Nino conditions had inhibited hurricane development by bringing higher ocean temperatures that increase crosswinds over the Caribbean. The winds can rip storms apart or stop them from forming. But the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has warned that the El Nino effect on hurricanes has been small so far. And the season, which lasts until Nov. 30, is still at its traditional peak.

3 wildfires scorch SoCal; 1 doubles in size in national forest

OJAI, Calif. - Firefighters battling a stubborn, two-week-old wildfire that scorched more than 116 square miles of wilderness along the Los Angeles-Ventura County line were counting Monday on help from shifting winds. The Day Fire, the largest of three Southern California blazes, doubled in size when it was fanned by gusty Santa Ana winds over the weekend. But a cool, moist ocean breeze Sunday night slowed the fire and put communities that are still several miles away from the flames out of immediate danger.

Authorities had advised precautionary evacuations over the weekend. The most recent forecast called for northwest winds of 15 mph to 20 mph with a shift to cooler and moister onshore breezes. If the wind shifts as predicted ... it could cool things a bit, said U.S. Forest Service spokesman Joe Pasinato. The Day Fire has burned 74,052 acres since Labor Day and was 15 percent contained Monday. No structures have been damaged.Meanwhile, two desert wildfires that forced the temporary evacuation of about 2,500 residents were mostly contained Monday. Two homes were destroyed by one of those blazes. While no one was injured and no homes were lost in the Day Fire, the blaze, which has remained largely in the Los Padres National Forest, crept within 12 miles of the artists' enclave of Ojai, in the mountains about 75 miles northwest of Los Angeles. The fire was also about seven miles north of Fillmore and 10 miles northeast of Santa Paula.

On Monday, firefighters moved equipment and personnel to the fire's western boundary and worked to set up a helibase to attack the blaze from the air. Crews also planned to drive up a hillside and hike a few miles inward, where they would use hand tools to cut fire lines and prevent the blaze from moving into populated areas.Battalion Chief Andy Ortega warned firefighters about rattlesnakes and bee stings in the wilderness. Several of the firefighters suffered minor injuries, including sprained ankles.

More than 2,000 firefighters were battling the blaze, which was ignited by someone burning debris.Officials said they expected the fire's main front to head northeast toward a group of mountains. The cooler winds pushing it could also provide a window for firefighters to get better control.

We expect stronger winds to come in Thursday and Friday, so we have a couple of days to work on it, Forest Service spokeswoman Dee Dechert said.Officials had advised the evacuation of about 350 homes in the Upper Ojai, Matilija Canyon and Wheeler Gorge areas as a precaution, said Sgt. Tim Hagel of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.Ninety students cleared out of an Ojai Valley boarding school near the fire.It was a voluntary evacuation, but they were urged to leave, said Peter Cavalho, a supervisor of maintenance at Ojai Valley Schools Upper Campus.Marsha Campiglio, 58, who lives in the small forest community of Matilija Canyon near Ojai, said she had been prepared to go at any time since being contacted by officials at 6 a.m. Sunday.

We've been putting stuff in the car all day, but we've been watching football too,she said, laughing. The fire, which has cost about $15 million to fight, also scorched a condor sanctuary in part of the Sespe Wilderness, and state Fish and Game officials were closely watching a condor fledgling. The bird was in a high, rocky area that was not in imminent danger and no intervention was necessary, officials said.In Riverside County, two homes, two commercial buildings and three outbuildings were destroyed by a wildfire that ignited Saturday about 80 miles east of Los Angeles near the town of Cherry Valley, said Daniel Berlant, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The Orchard Fire burned about 1,536 acres of brush and grass, or about two square miles, before being contained.A third fire started about eight miles away in a Banning structure and spread rapidly.

That blaze, dubbed the Ranch Fire, scorched 1,658 acres and was 90 percent contained. Two outbuildings and a barn were damaged, said Capt. Steve Diaz of the Riverside unit of the California Department of Forestry.Officials had called for mandatory evacuation in parts of Banning, Beaumont and the area around the Highland Springs Resort, but the orders were lifted Sunday evening and residents were allowed back in.

Israel ready to release more prisoners than expected:Mubarak Mon Sep 18,

CAIRO (AFP) - Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has said the number of Palestinian prisoners Israel is ready to release in exchange for a captured soldier is higher than expected. Egyptian contacts and efforts are progressing, and according to the outline of the agreement which has not yet been finalised the soldier will be freed in exchange for the release of a large number of Palestinian women and children,Mubarak was quoted as saying Monday by the official MENA news agency.Israel will then release Palestinian prisoners in three stages, MENA quoted him as saying, without specifying a number.

Israeli corporal Gilad Shalit was captured on June 25 during an attack by Palestinian militants on a border post in the southern Gaza Strip. His seizure was claimed by three groups, including the armed wing of the governing Hamas.Israeli media reports have estimated the number of Palestinians who could be released as part of a swap at between 600 and 800.

The Israeli side has shown readiness to release a higher number than what had been expected,Mubarak added.Egypt, together with Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas, has been involved in diplomatic efforts to secure the release of the Israeli conscript, whose capture led to a military offensive against the Gaza Strip. An Israeli government spokesman told AFP Monday that Israel was ready to reciprocate immediately if Shalit was freed, and if a new Palestinian unity government accepts Western conditions for resuming financial aid.

If the Palestinian leadership takes the right steps, Israel would immediately take the right steps to strengthen that, foreign ministry spokesman Marc Regev said. But Israeli officials also warned against hopes of an imminent release and stressed that no agreement had yet been reached.Palestinian prime minister Ismail Haniya, from the Islamist movement Hamas, said Saturday that efforts to secure the release of the Israeli soldier were making progress.

Israel's Livni to meet Palestinian President Abbas
18 Sep 2006 17:10:49 GMT, Reuters
By Michelle Nichols

NEW YORK, Sept 18 (Reuters) - Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said she would tell Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in a meeting on Monday that any unity government he negotiates with Hamas must meet international conditions for lifting a freeze on foreign aid. Those conditions are that any Palestinian government must renounce violence, recognize Israel and accept interim peace deals Israel signed with the Palestinians.Livni said it would be her second meeting with Abbas -- whom she will see on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly -- since the Islamist group Hamas came to power in March and sparked a freeze on most foreign aid to the Palestine.

The last thing that the region, our region, the Middle East, needs is another terrorist state, Livni told reporters, adding that Israel supports strengthening Abbas, whose Fatah movement wants a two-state solution with Israel. The best way to strengthen Mahmoud Abbas is to demand the implentation of these requirements and not to compromise with them, she said. The measures were set by the Quartet of peace mediators the United States, the European Union, the United Nations and Russia as conditions for ending a freeze on most foreign aid to the Palestinians.Abbas and ruling Hamas have begun talks on a unity government in a bid to lift sanctions, but aides to Abbas said on Sunday the president froze talks after Hamas said it would not accept interim peace deals with Israel.

Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas said talks were only delayed while Abbas is in New York.Livni said it would be unacceptable for any unity government to be recognized if Hamas has not changed its ideology.

(Hamas) needs legitimization in order to get the money,Livni told reporters. They're looking for any hesitation in the international community in order to change the government to a unity government in order to get legitimacy. The three requirements are not negotiable, they are clear, she said.

Livni said she would also discuss with Abbas the case of an Israeli soldier captured in June by Gaza militants who have demanded the release of Palestinian prisoners and a halt to Israeli attacks.

IMF reform could prompt EU power loss
18.09.2006 - 09:58 CET | By Mark Beunderman EU OBSERVER

The EU could lose out in terms of power in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as the body is expected today to endorse a major overhaul of voting rights. At an IMF meeting in Singapore on Sunday, the organisation's steering committee the International Monetary and Financial Committee backed reforms which boost the decision-making powers of emerging economies such as China, South Korea, Turkey and Mexico. The IMF is a key international organisation which seeks to secure monetary and economic stability around the globe notably by providing credits to states with financial problems. The proposals, strongly pushed by US president George W. Bush, are being put to a vote in the 184-member IMF today (18 September) with results of the vote expected to emerge later this week.

The EU's richest states such as Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and the Scandinavian countries are set to become big losers on the reform. Germany and the Netherlands said over the weekend that the proposed new formula determining IMF voting rights taking countries' economic power more into account should be adapted and based more on the openness of states' economy. German finance minister Peer Steinbruck said over the weekend The one-sided position of the US that GDP [Gross Domestic Product] should play the predominant role is not in line with our views, according to Bloomberg.

Echoeing his German counterpart's words, Dutch finance minister Gerrit Zalm said voting weights should be based on an international factor the openness of the economy, adding GDP cannot be the only basis for an international institution.EU finance ministers meeting earlier this month sought to coordinate positions for the Singapore meeting, agreeing that they would back a one-off increase of voting weights of China, South Korea, Turkey and Mexico but remaining cautious on longer-term IMF reform.

EU members must be treated equally with other under-represented members in this exercise, they said in a 9 September statement. Meanwhile, the member states of the eurozone – the EU's common currency area - are divided on ideas to merge to group eurozone states' seats on the IMF board into one. The plan has the backing of the president of the European Central Bank, Jean-Claude Trichet as well as of the chairman of eurozone finance ministers, Luxembourg leader Jean-Claude Juncker, DPA reports. Germany, the largest eurozone member, is however against the idea, wishing instead to stick to its own seat.

Syrian Threat, Rocket Threats
By Hillel Fendel(INN)

Tensions with Syria continue, while Israel Air Force officer says short-range rockets are the main threat. Syria's Information Minister Muhsin Bilal says the Syrian nation will not wait much longer for the return of the Golan Heights. He told the Egyptian Al-Ahram newspaper that though Syria has waited patiently for 16 years hoping the peace for land formula would be implemented, nothing has happened. In the meanwhile, an Israel Air Force officer said today that the main threat against Israel today stems from short-range rockets from Gaza, Lebanon and possibly Judea and Samaria.

If the IDF had had full intelligence on everything going on in southern Lebanon near Israel, we could have prepared better for a better solution, both from the air and on the ground, to the short-range Katyusha missiles, he said. The officer said that the maps used by the Air Force were more up-to-date than those used by the ground forces. Two Kassam rockets were fired by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza Monday morning. The rockets landed just short of the northern Gaza border fence, causing no damage.

Iran leader says pope remarks part of US-Israeli conspiracy Mon Sep 18, 8:21 AM ET

TEHRAN (AFP) -Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei has said remarks by the pope on Islam and violence were just the latest links in the chain of a US-Israeli conspiracy aimed at creating conflict between religions. Leaders of the arrogant imperialists have already defined the links of the chain in this US-Zionist project by attacking Iraq, Khamenei said in comments broadcast on state television.

The issue of insulting cartoons and remarks of some politicians about Islam are different links in the conspiracy of the crusaders and the pope's remarks are the latest links in this, he added. The pope's comments in his native Germany, which unleashed a wave of anger in the Islamic world, came after caricatures published in a Danish newspaper last year deemed insulting to the Prophet Mohammed set off deadly protests.

Pope remarks worry Christians in Mideast
2006/9 By ANNA JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer 11 minutes ago

CAIRO, Egypt - Extra security guards around churches in Egypt and Lebanon. Armed officers surrounding at least one. With the tensions over Pope Benedict XVI ‘s remarks on Islam still high, many in the Mideast‘s large Christian communities are worried about a backlash. Christians a minority in the Mideast that varies from nearly 40 percent in Lebanon to tiny communities in the Gulf states generally live in peace with the majority Muslims. Muslims, and some Christians, across the region have expressed anger over comments Benedict made Tuesday in Germany where he cited the words of a Byzantine emperor who characterized some of the teachings of Islam‘s Prophet Muhammad as evil and inhuman. There were no reports of violence against Christians in much of the Mideast on Sunday, but two churches in the Palestinian West Bank were set afire a day after Muslims hurled firebombs and opened fire at four other West Bank churches and one in the Gaza Strip .

On Monday, about 150 people in the Pakistani-controlled region of Kashmir demanded that the pope apologize over his remarks on Islam, chanting Death to the Pope and burning his effigy. Christians have been targeted in other cases. Car bombs exploded in January, killing at least three people in a coordinated spree of attacks outside the Vatican mission and at least five churches in Iraq , where Christians make up just 3 percent of Iraq‘s 26 million people. We in Egypt, despite coming from two different religions, have lived together for 14 centuries and engaged in religious dialogue, the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church, Pope Shenouda III told reporters Sunday in Cairo. The tension being expressed over the pope‘s comments is not just coming from Muslims in the region.

Some Christians have openly expressed their dislike for Islam. Despite growing friction, Christian leaders gave mixed responses to the pope‘s words and the Vatican response, with some defending the pontiff and others saying his comments were offensive.

But one Roman Catholic priest in the Jordanian capital of Amman said he felt the pain of our Muslim brothers. We lived with our brothers in Islam in the good times and the bad times. We shared the laughter of joy and the tears of sorrow. We as Christians were so loyal to our nation. We have martyrs in all the battles of the Arab Jordanian army where the blood of Christians has mixed with that of Muslims, the Rev. Jihad Shweihat said. Magd in Cairo, Hamza Hendawi in Beirut, Lebanon, and Dale Gavlak in Amman Jordan contributed to this report.

Strong earthquake rattles Argentina 29 minutes ago

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina /A strong earthquake sent panicked residents fleeing from their homes Sunday in Argentina, but it caused no injuries or damages, authorities said. The magnitude 6.1 quake was felt in the provinces of Mendoza, San Juan and La
Rioja. Its epicenter was in Pampa de las Salinas, about 745 miles northeast of Buenos Aires and it was the second in less than a week to shake the region.A magnitude 5.7 quake struck the San Juan province on Tuesday but also caused no injuries or damage.

Hurricanes churn over Atlantic, no threat to land

MIAMI (Reuters)Hurricanes Gordon and Helene churned across the open Atlantic on Sunday, packing strong winds and gusty rains but posing no immediate threat to land, U.S. forecasters said. At 5 p.m. EDT (2100 GMT), maximum sustained winds from Helene the fourth hurricane of the Atlantic season were blowing at 105 miles per hour (169 kph) and the storm was moving northwest at about 9 mph (14 kph), the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said.

It said the center of the storm, which could strengthen over the next 24 hours, was located 920 miles east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands.Gordon, the third hurricane of the season, had top sustained winds near 80 mph (130 kph), the hurricane center said. Located 1,430 miles west of the Azores, it was swirling north-northeast at 14 mph (22 kph).

Hurricane forecasters had predicted the current Atlantic storm season, which began June 1, would be more active than usual, following the record-breaking 2005 and the punishing 2004 seasons. But the development of El Nino weather conditions in the Pacific and other factors like high quantities of West African dust in the atmosphere over the Atlantic have led weather experts to lower their expectations.

The El Nino phenomenon, an unusual warming of waters in the eastern Pacific, causes high wind shear over the Atlantic. Wind shear, the difference in velocity or direction of winds at different altitudes, tears cyclones apart.

5 dead or missing in Japan typhoon By HANS GREIMEL, Associated Press Writer Sun Sep 17, 4:58 PM ET

TOKYO /A strong typhoon swept toward southwestern Japan with fierce winds and heavy rains Sunday, leaving at least five people dead or missing and injuring more than 100. More than 300 flights were grounded, cars were blown over and strong winds were
suspected in an express train derailment that injured five people, local media reported.Thousands of people, meanwhile, sought refuge in public shelters.

Although Typhoon Shanshan had weakened overnight, it was still lashing the region with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph. It was forecast to continue churning northeast toward Japan's southwestern island of Kyushu, Japan's Meteorological Agency said.Heavy rain warnings were issued for much of western Japan, and the storm killed four people before even making landfall.A father and teenage daughter died Saturday when their car was hit by a flash flood, Kyodo News agency and public broadcaster NHK said. Another man was swept away in high waters, Kyodo said. One man was killed and another missing in Hiroshima prefecture, NHK said.More than 100 others have been injured by the storm, which started churning toward Japan early Saturday after sweeping past Taiwan.Authorities suspected that a sudden gust from Shanshan lifted two train cars from their tracks in the southern prefecture of Miyazaki, injuring five people, reports said. The train was moving slowly because of the storm.

Some super-express bullet train service was suspended because the storm and ship traffic was disrupted.Gusts of 155 mph were recorded Saturday on Iriomote Island, near Taiwan, the strongest winds ever observed there, Kyodo said. Up to 14 inches of rain were expected to fall in some areas of southwestern Japan by midday Monday, NHK reported.Typhoons and tropical storms frequently hit eastern Asia, especially Japan and Taiwan, in the summer and fall.

Lane weakens to tropical depression By WILL WEISSERT, Associated Press Writer Sun Sep 17, 3:43 PM ET

MAZATLAN, Mexico - Residents hauled bags of mud out of their homes and tourists tried to resume their vacations Sunday after Hurricane Lane battered this popular resort town. A day after the Category 3 storm swept away cars, toppled tree and crumpled billboards, some tourists sat in Jacuzzis and pools under a light drizzle or walked in ankle-deep water to shops and restaurants, which opened their previously boarded-up doors.Others, however, were trying desperately to get out of the mud-covered resort.

Robert Brown, 44, who builds race car engines in Aberdeen, Miss., said he and his wife were considering taking a seven-hour bus ride to Puerto Vallarta to catch a flight home after he was told planes were full out of Mazatlan on Sunday.I don't really know what to do now,he said.We don't know how the roads will be, but we also don't know how else we'll get out.Noe Tobar, 23, who was sweeping palm fronds and water out of the hallway of his concrete floor house in Mazatlan, said the cleanup from the storm should be quick. We were hit with a lot of rain, but give us a few days and everything will be back to normal,he said.Nearby, Martin Garcia, a 19-year-old musician, was hauling plastic bags full of mud out of his cement hovel, which he shares with seven others. He said the floodwaters had risen to the edges of his family's beds.

I'm glad it went farther north, but even so it left us flooded,he said. The storm weakened to a tropical depression on Sunday after pounding Mazatlan with heavy winds and rain. It prompted the cancellation of flights and Mexico's traditional Independence Day parade in the resort and retirement community popular with Americans. The region escaped relatively unscathed with no reports of major damage or deaths, said Gerardo Delgado, a Red Cross spokesman in Sinaloa state, where Mazatlan is located.

A handful of small mountain villages were cut off by floodwaters but officials flew over the area in a helicopter and said there appeared to be no major damage or injuries, Delgado added.About 3,000 people had been evacuated in the state, but most returned home by Sunday.

By Sunday morning, Lane's maximum sustained winds had faded to about 30 mph — down from 125 mph on Saturday, forecasters at the U.S.National Hurricane Center said. The storm was expected to die out as it moved farther inland, the center said.Earlier this week, rains from the storm lashed coastal towns to the south, causing a landslide that killed a 7-year-old boy in Acapulco and flooding across western Mexico that forced hundreds of people to abandon their homes. It was the second hurricane to strike the region this month. Hurricane John earlier hit a remote section of Baja California, killing five people and destroying 160 homes.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Miriam churned far off Baja California, the National Hurricane Center said. Forecasters said there was a slight chance it would turn toward land later in the week, hitting a sparsely populated section of the peninsula's coastline.

Struggling with globalisation, EU to take tougher line with trade partners by Philippe Ries Sun Sep 17, 1:18 AM ET

BRUSSELS (AFP) - Struggling to cope with shifting patterns of global commerce, the European Commission is planning a more hard-nosed approach to breaking into foreign markets and ensuring EU exporters get a fair deal from its trade partners. The tougher line on market access will be one of the main planks of EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson's plans to beef up the bloc's international competitiveness, which are to be unveiled on October 4.

In preparatory notes seen by AFP, the commission said that its current trade strategy, which was launched in 1996, has not lived up to its full potential on opening markets, attracting investment and protecting intellectual property rights.Where EU companies face restrictions and their intellecual property rights are not fully respected we can and should be hard-nosed about improving these conditions, the commission document asserts.

However a tougher approach does not mean forcing open markets, it adds.Once the new strategy is brought in next year, it will focus on making sure that rules are respected and obligations to provide fair trading conditions are fulfilled. With that aim in mind, the commission wants to better use its available trade instruments, such as anti-dumping rules and negotiating new free-trade agreements. At the same time, the commission does not plan to back away from the multilateral approach and the WTO will remain the essential platform for ensuring Europe's interests are recognised in the gloabl trading system, the note said.In the future, new free trade agreements should be focused on key partners, and in particular on tackling non-tariff barriers, which now remain the main obstacle to the free flow of trade since tariffs have been eroded by succeeding waves of World Trade Organisation (WTO)
liberalisation.

For example, the commission is seeking a mandate from member states by the end of the year to open negotiations with ASEAN and South Korea for free-trade agreements.Brussels also has high hopes for trade with Latin America and wants to relaunch negotiations with Mercosur as well as opening talks with Central American and Andean countries. The commission wants to give particular importance to prying open public procurement markets, which represent an area of enormous untapped potential for EU exporters. The commission says that public procurement markets, which are so far not covered by WTO rules, generate 10 to 25 percent of the gross domestic product of some of the EU's partners. But although it considers its own public procurement markets to be open to others, the EU constantly finds it difficult to obtain satisfactory, reciprocal commitments from its trading partners.

In a recent example, Canadian train maker Bombardier was selected for a project without a tender in Quebec, leaving French group Alstom out of the race even though in France an open tender would have to be held. For Mandelson, who has been dubbed the globalisation commissioner in the EU executive, the stakes are not only economic but political and social.Opening up foreign markets makes it easier to dispel the temptation in some member states to shut out the outside world with trade barriers, the commission note said.Closing our own border is almost always counterproductive as it cuts off business from global supply chains and the import of cheap materials for production, it said. The commission's review of its trade policy would therefore identify the opportunities and risks of globalisation and set out a programme to increase our ability to respond to, and reap the maximum of benefits for our citizens, of global economic change. In the EU, that translates into taking care to help the victims of shifting trade patterns while making sure that the positive effects of trade opening benefit all consumers and are not captured by specific
interests.

Nonaligned nations condemn Israel, criticize United States
By OLGA R. RODRIGUEZ,The Associated Press

HAVANA — Representatives of 118 Nonaligned Movement nations condemned Israel's attacks on Lebanon and supported a peaceful resolution to the U.S.-Iran nuclear dispute in the final declaration Saturday of a summit that brought together some of the world's staunchest American foes. The 92-page declaration also broadly condemned terrorism. But it said movements for self-determination and battles against foreign occupiers should not be considered terrorism.

And while declaring democracy to be a universal value, the movement said no one country or region should define it for the whole world and defended the right of Venezuela and other countries to determine their own forms of government. The final statements, many of which contain veiled criticisms of the U.S., were to be approved by unanimous consent after another round of speeches Saturday night by leaders of the movement.

No one in the Nonaligned Movement thinks that the United States is responsible for all the problems, but many think that it is for some,Cuba's Foreign Minister Felipe Pérez Roque said.An ailing Fidel Castro was named president of the movement, but he stayed home in his pajamas on doctors' orders while Acting Cuban President Raul Castro presided over the meeting of two-thirds of the world's nations. The meeting brought together the leaders of Iran, Venezuela, North Korea and Zimbabwe among other leading U.S. adversaries. Raul Castro joined them in saying a bellicose America had made the world more dangerous. The United States spends one billion dollars a year in weapons and soldiers, he said. To think that a social and economic order that has proven unsustainable could be maintained by force is simply an absurd idea.

North Korea's No. 2 leader, Kim Yong Nam, claimed his communist nation would not need even a single nuclear weapon if there no longer existed a U.S. threat, and said U.S. financial sanctions have driven the situation into an unpredictable phase.Kim, the leader of Parliament, blamed the lack of world peace on the United States, saying its failure to respect the sovereignty of other nations has destroyed the international order.© 2006 The Seattle Times Company

Pope quails before Islamic fury
By Stan Goodenough,September 17, 2006

Pope Benedict XVI, head of the world’s 1.1 billion Roman Catholics, attempted Saturday to placate the fury of the world’s 1.2 billion Muslims after he purportedly offended them by reading from a 14th century book disclosing sordid truths about the teachings of the prophet Mohammed. The pope’s secretary of state said in a statement that Benedict’s position on Islam was unquestionably in line with the Vatican’s traditional teaching that the Rome esteems Muslims, who adore the only God.

This reassertion of a heresy that the LORD God of Israel and Allah, the Moon God of Arabia, are the same being was not enough to placate the latest fit of Islamic apoplexy. It erupted after Benedict, referencing a recorded debate between a Byzantium emperor and a Persian scholar, said that when the emperor came to talk about the issue of jihad he said, I quote, Show me just what Mohammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.Although the pope was quoting from an obscure old document, Muslims characteristically exploded in outrage in Arab and other Islamic states, protesting in the streets, firebombing churches, issuing fatwas and threatening to send suicide bombers to attack the Vatican in Rome.

It is the second time in a year Islamic leaders identified and seized an opportunity to fuel their growing global jihad, the ultimate aim of which is the destruction of Judeo-Christian civilization and the forceful subjection of mankind to Allah. In September 2005, after a Danish cartoon depicted the founder of Islam as a man of violence, riots and other forms of protest flared in Muslim communities worldwide, instigated by imams and other religious leaders, This time again, fires of fury were ignited around the world.

In Israel, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh lashed out at Benedict for offending Muslims everywhere by his comments…about Islam as a faith [which] hide the truth and hurt its blessed essence.

The arch terrorist, who has personally embraced violence as a means of subduing the enemies of Islam and Palestine, appeared oblivious to the irony of remarks. Like all who head up Muslim terror groups, the Hamas leader prides himself as a faithful follower of Mohammed’s teachings. As he spoke, thousands of Palestinian Arabs marched to the buildings of the Palestinian parliament to vent their rage. At least four churches in Samaria and one in Gaza were set ablaze. The few Arab Christians in the overwhelmingly Muslim majority Palestinian Authority areas are believed to be in fear of personal attack.Further afield, Turkey accused the pope for trying to revive the mentality of the Crusades. The Pakistani parliament condemned him and called the Vatican’s ambassador to Islamabad on the carpet. The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood and a senior Muslim cleric in Lebanon demanded that Benedict make a personal and public apology to Muslims everywhere.Morocco recalled its ambassador to the Holy See.

Historically Muslims have, often successfully, forced those who worship Christ and those who make obeisance to Mary to retract remarks and statements deemed offensive to the followers of Mohammed.High-profile evangelical leaders like Jerry Falwell have been successfully coerced into apologizing for calling Mohammed a terrorist.Notwithstanding the unwillingness of many western nations to defy politically correctness, by today’s definition – and according to the criteria used in various Judeo-Christian countries Mohammed, were he alive in the 21st century, would be labeled a terrorist, and states subscribing to his evil and inhuman teachings would be designated (as a few are) terror-supporting states and members of an axis of evil.

14 Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.
15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

38 But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces:(HES A MILITARY GINIUS) and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.
39 Thus shall he do in the most strong holds (CONTROL HEZBOLLAH,AL-QUAIDA MURDERERS ETC) with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many,(HIS ARMY LEADERS) and shall divide the land for gain.
40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south(EGYPT) push at him:(EU DICTATOR PROTECTING ISRAELS SECURITY) and the king of the north(RUSSIA) shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships;
and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

Palestinian president calls for reviving Mideast peace process

AMMAN, Sept 17 (KUNA) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has asserted the importance of pushing forward the stalled Middle East peace process according to the road map agreed on by the Arab countries.

Speaking during a joint news conference, on Sunday, with Jordan's Prime Minister Dr. Ma'arouf Bakheet prior to his departure to New York on Monday, Abbas said:

We will tell the world community that the issue is in your court and you must find the appropriate mechanism to resolve it either through the Security Council or the quartet because the issue has been frozen more than enough.Asked about the formation of a national unity government, Abbas said that measures pertaining to its formation have been suspended till his return home after participation in the UN General Assembly meeting.

We had agreed with Hamas officials over a number of political and non political topics that are necessary for the government.Due to the issuance of some statements that led to misunderstanding of this agreement, we decided not to carry out any legal and constitutional measures to form a new unity government until I return from New York, he added. For his part, Bakheet stressed on the importance of formulating a united Arab stance towards boosting the Palestinian issue amid these critical and sensitive conditions. He urged the world community to take up its responsibilities in this respect.
