9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

NEW DELHI (AFP) - At least one person has died of heat-related illness as summer temperatures rose across northern India while a powerful severe storm threatened the country's southern islands. A vagrant died of heat stroke in the Sikh holy city of Amritsar where the mercury Friday rose to 43 degrees Celsius (109.4 degrees Fahrenheit), police and officials from the meteorological department said Friday. The weather office reported sweltering conditions and said the sizzler was a result of temperatures rising rapidly in the past week.
