Protesters are planning a sit-in demonstration Saturday outside the White House to denounce a proposed pipeline that would transport crude oil from the Alberta oilsands to a refinery in Texas.Organizers say they expect at least 1,500 people to participate in the first of a series of sit-ins, which are to continue until Sept. 3.
The protesters say the oil is dirty and allege the site of the oilsands is the world's biggest emitter of carbon. The U.S. State Department is expected to release its final environmental analysis of the pipeline by the end of the month. Obama will then have 90 days to decide whether going ahead with the project would be in the national interest. The president is currently on holiday in the Massachusetts resort town of Martha's Vineyard.Proponents say the pipeline plan will give the United States a reliable supply of oil at time when imports from countries such as Mexico and Venezuela are declining.Cindy Schild, the refining issues manager at the American Petroleum Institute, said in a recent review on the project that a U.S. government environmental assessment has indicated this pipeline will exceed all other [safety] standards.The State Department has stated that it will be state-of-the-art, she told the U.S. television news program Democracy Now.

The U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Energy and Navy will invest up to $510 million during the next three years, in partnership with the private sector, to produce advanced drop-in aviation and marine biofuels for military and commercial transportation, President Barack Obama announced.Opening the White House Rural Economic Forum at Northeast Iowa Community College in Peosta as part of a three-day rural bus tour, the President said, Biofuels are an important part of reducing America's dependence on foreign oil and creating jobs here at home. But supporting biofuels cannot be the role of government alone. That's why we're partnering with the private sector to speed development of next-generation biofuels that will help us continue to take steps towards energy independence and strengthen communities across our country.The joint plan calls for the three departments to invest a total of up to $510 million, with a cost share from private industry of at least a one-to-one match for a total of more than $1 billion of investment.The United States spends more than $300 billion on imported crude oil per year. Producing a domestic source of energy provides a more secure alternative to imported oil and improves our energy and national security.Increased use of advanced biofuels is a key component of the administration's energy security agenda, as spelled out in a March 2011 directive President Obama issued as part of his Blueprint for a Secure Energy Future, but there is a lack of manufacturing capability for advanced biofuels in the United States.
To accelerate the production of bio-based jet and diesel fuel, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Energy Secretary Steven Chu have developed a plan to jointly construct or retrofit several drop-in biofuel plants and refineries.America's long-term national security depends upon a commercially viable domestic biofuels market that will benefit taxpayers while simultaneously giving Sailors and Marines tactical and strategic advantages, said Secretary Mabus. Today's announcement not only leverages our home grown fuel sources to support our national security, but it also helps advance the biofuels market, which ultimately brings down the cost of biofuels for everyone.By building a national biofuels industry, we are creating construction jobs, refinery jobs and economic opportunity in rural communities throughout the country, said Secretary Vilsack. As importantly, every gallon of biofuel consumed near where it is produced cuts transportation costs and, for the military, improves energy security.These pioneer plants will demonstrate advanced technologies to produce infrastructure-compatible, drop-in renewable fuels from America's abundant biomass resources, said Secretary Chu. It will support development of a new, rural-focused industry that will replace imported crude oil with secure, renewable fuels made here in the United States.U.S. biodiesel production reached a new monthly high of 81 million gallons in June, according to the latest statistics from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, marking a third consecutive month of record volumes and continuing a remarkable turnaround in which biodiesel production in the first half of 2011 has already eclipsed production for all of 2010.Despite the weak economy, the biodiesel industry is on track to produce at least 800 million gallons this year, more than double biodiesel production of 315 million gallons last year, when Congress allowed the biodiesel tax incentive to lapse.The National Biodiesel Board, the industry trade association, says this year's rejuvenated production will support more than 31,000 U.S. jobs and generate income of nearly $1.7 billion to be circulated throughout the economy. The biodiesel industry is expected to generate an estimated $345 million in federal tax revenue and $283 million in state and local tax revenues this year.
National Biodiesel Board CEO Joe Jobe said today, Policy makers should take a look at our experience over the last couple of years. It's a textbook case in how sound energy policy equates to sound economic policy. Congress should not allow the biodiesel tax incentive to expire again at the end of this year. In this kind of economy, we need every tool we have.We've dramatically increased production and doubled our number of employees at a time when many industries are shrinking or treading water, said Ben Wootton, owner of Keystone Biofuels in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. It's like night and day from 2010. I think that's a testament to biodiesel's staying power as an advanced biofuel and also to strong federal policy. We're a young industry, and we wouldn't be where we are today without the tax incentive - and a lot more people would be standing in the unemployment line.In addition to tax incentives, the biofuels industry is on the receiving end of scientific advances.A team of researchers at the Department of Energy's BioEnergy Science Center have pinpointed the exact, single gene that controls ethanol production capacity in the microorganism Clostridium thermocellum.Scientists can now experiment with genetically altering biomass plants to produce higher concentrations of ethanol at lower costs, said Secretary Chu, announcing the discovery on Thursday.
America has both the resources and the know-how to break our addiction to foreign oil, said Brooke Coleman, executive director of the Advanced Ethanol Council.What is lacking is the political will to stand up to oil special interests and level the playing field for all biofuels, including next generation ethanol, to compete.Scores of promising technologies are ready for commercial deployment, but are being held up by an unstable and unpredictable policy climate. In order to deploy these technologies to harness the potential of America's vast biomass resources, and to compete in the global race to produce next generation fuels, consistent and stable policy relating to biofuels is essential, Coleman said.That means continuing investment in new technologies, expanding refueling opportunities for domestically produced, non-petroleum fuels like ethanol, and protecting the integrity and the intent of the Renewable Fuel Standard.The Obama administration's biofuels initiative is being steered by the White House Biofuels Interagency Work Group and Rural Council, both of which are enabling greater cross-agency collaboration to strengthen rural America.
Enbridge to Invest US$500 Million in 250-Megawatt Colorado Wind Energy Project
CBJ July 2,11 - Enbridge Inc. (TSX:ENB) (NYSE:ENB) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. (RES Americas) under which a U.S. affiliate of Enbridge Inc. will own and operate the 250-megawatt (MW) Cedar Point Wind Energy Project. Enbridge's investment in the project will be approximately US$500 million and the Broomfield, Colorado-based RES Americas will construct it under a fixed-price engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to Enbridge.The Cedar Point Wind Energy Project, developed by RES Americas, is located approximately 80 miles east of Denver. Construction of the project will begin shortly with substantial completion expected in late 2011. The project will deliver electricity to the Public Service Company of Colorado (PSCo) electricity transmission grid under a 20-year, fixed-price power purchase agreement with PSCo.
Renewable energy aligns very well with our objective to profitably grow our energy infrastructure business, said Al Monaco, Executive Vice President, Major Projects and Green Energy, Enbridge Inc. Our green energy investments provide attractive returns and establish a new source of earnings growth that complements existing growth in our liquids and natural gas transportation businesses. The investment in Cedar Point bolsters our already strong portfolio of green energy projects and establishes a beach head for future investment into the growing U.S. green energy market. The Cedar Point Wind Energy Project will comprise 139 Vestas 1.8 MW turbines, which will be connected to the PSCo grid by a 42-mile transmission line. RES Americas will construct the wind farm and transmission line under a fixed price, turnkey EPC agreement with Enbridge. Vestas will provide operations and maintenance services under a five-year, fixed price service, maintenance and warranty agreement.A world-leading, fully-integrated renewable energy player in development, engineering, procurement, construction and operating services, RES Americas has developed and/or constructed approximately 10 percent of the installed U.S. wind energy capacity. October summit to define new euro structures

S&P Cuts Venezuela's Credit Rating; Outlook Stable

Standard & Poor's on Friday downgraded Venezuela's credit ratings as it implemented a new methodology more heavily focused on political risk—a key weakness in the oil-producing country.S&P cut Venezuela's long-term sovereign rating to B-plus from BB-minus. The outlook on the new rating is stable. The agency's new methodology was published on June 30, a little more than a month before it invoked political concerns to downgrade U.S. credit ratings.Political risk has been a constant issue in Venezuela, where change in economic rules and nationalization of companies are common. Uncertainty about the health of President Hugo Chavez, who had surgery in Cuba earlier this summer to remove a cancerous tumor followed by chemotherapy treatment, has added to those risks, S&P said in a statement.In our opinion, changing and arbitrary laws, price and exchange controls, and other distorting and unpredictable economic measures have undermined private-sector investment and hurt productivity, weakening Venezuela's domestic economy, S&P analyst Roberto Sifon Arevalo wrote in a report.
Venezuela's vast oil and gas reserves somewhat offset the policy uncertainty, S&P said. The country posts steady current account surpluses which, combined with strict capital controls, result in positive net asset positions.However, S&P expressed concern about the actual level of Venezuela's gold and foreign exchange reserves after reports that the country plans to repatriate them.When you have the reserves held abroad, you do have some level of confidence, Arevalo told Reuters in an interview. That is not going to be the case anymore. They are going to be held at the central bank domestically, then you fall in the same circle of lack of transparency that everything else has in Venezuela.

EU countries have agreed to impose an oil embargo on Syria in the hope of accelerating the fall of President Bashar Assad by cutting off his money.Diplomats in the Political and Security Committee in Brussels on Friday (19 August) tasked the European External Action Service (EEAS) with drawing up legal proposals for the oil ban. The new measures will be discussed early next week and are expected to come into force in a matter of days.France, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK backed the move. Cyprus, Greece and Italy voiced worries it would hurt ordinary Syrians but did not put up strong opposition.One EU diplomat said the oil ban is designed to speed up regime change. The general feeling of today's meeting is that we are now entering into a transition phase [in Syria] ... and when we are looking at transition, then perhaps political considerations outweigh economic considerations [for EU oil companies],he said.Another EU diplomat told this website: The Brits said Syrian people are suffering anyway and are willing to accept some temporary hardships. The Dutch said we need smart sanctions minimising the impact on ordinary people, but we can't use this as an excuse for half-hearted measures.A third diplomatic contact said: The fact that the 27 countries have tasked [the EEAS] to draw up legal proposals suggests it's pretty much a done deal.The legal proposals will also look at: extending sanctions to Syrian banks and telecommunications firms; suspending European Investment Bank assistance; and imposing visa bans and asset freezes on people supporting the regime or benefitting from its actions. Current sanctions cover only people directly involved in violent repression.

Russia says EU and US wrong on Syria

The White House and the EU have told Syrian President Bashar Assad he should give up power following a UN report chronicling eyewitness accounts of mass-scale murder and torture.US President Barack Obama in a written statement on Thursday (18 August) said For the sake of the Syrian people, the time has come for President Assad to step aside.EU foreign relations chief Catherine Ashton in a communique endorsed by all 27 EU countries added shortly afterward: The EU notes the complete loss of Bashar Assad's legitimacy in the eyes of the Syrian people and the necessity for him to step aside.Europe's biggest foreign policy actors - France, Germany and the UK - highlighted the EU line in a separate statement. Poland, citing its role as the rotating EU presidency, followed suit.Obama also issued an executive order seizing all Syrian state property on US territory and banning US citizens from conducting any form of business with Syria, including in the oil and gas sector.He underlined that Libya-type military action is not an option, however. New Chinese stealth jet starts talk of Russian help

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Similarities between a new Chinese fighter jet and a prototype Russian plane have brought suggestions that Moscow may be quietly helping Beijing compete with the world's military powers.Experts say the fifth-generation J-20 fighter, which made its maiden flight in January during a visit of the U.S. defense secretary, could have its origins in the Mikoyan 1.44 stealth jet that never made it to the production line.A highly placed source close to Russia's defense industry said the similarities suggested Mikoyan technology had been passed into the hands of Chinese arms designers.It looks like they got access...to documents relating to the Mikoyan -- the aircraft that the Ministry of Defense skipped over in its tender to create a stealth fighter, he said, speaking on condition of anonymity.He said it was not clear whether such a transfer of technology had been legal. Analysts say Russia's assistance to the Chinese may help Moscow keep tabs on the rising military power's defense capabilities of its eastern neighbor.Independent analyst Adil Mukashev, who specializes in ties between Russia and China, suggested there had been a financial transaction.China bought the technology for parts, including the tail of the Mikoyan, for money, he said.China's Defense Ministry declined a request for comment. Those attacks come in response to provocations by the same terror groups in Gaza, such as Thursday’s multiple attacks near Eilat or the barrage of rockets which were fired at Israel from Gaza on Friday.
A representative of the militant group was quoted as having said,There can be no truce with the Israeli occupation while it commits massacres against the Palestinian people without justification.The representative added that Al-Qassam calls on all factions to respond to the Israeli occupation’s crimes.The ceasefire was declared by Hamas following the IDF’s Operation Cast Lead in Gaza in 2009, but has been broken many times when terror groups fired rockets and missiles towards Israel’s southern communities.More than 20 rockets, missiles and mortars were fired by terrorists from Gaza into Israeli territory on Friday. Luckily, most of them exploded in open areas and did not cause physical injuries or damage. MIAMI – Tropical Storm Harvey has formed in the Atlantic Ocean and is threatening to bring high winds and several inches of rain to parts of Central America.Tropical storm warnings have been issued for the Bay Islands of Honduras, the coast of Belize and parts of the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Watches are in effect for coastal Honduras and Guatemala.The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Friday that Harvey's maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (72 kph). The storm was centered about 125 miles (201 kilometers) east of Isla Roatan, Honduras. It was moving west at 12 mph (19 kph).Meanwhile, far out in the Pacific, Greg has weakened to a tropical storm and is expected to dissipate in the coming days.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Much of the Mid-Atlantic braced on Friday for a round of strong thunderstorms to pelt the region with heavy rainfall, gusty winds and lightning, forecasters said.Parts of eastern Pennsylvania, much of New Jersey and areas of Maryland and Delaware were under flash flood watches through the evening hours, according to the National Weather Service.There's the potential for the storms to produce heavy rain, said Kristin Kline, NWS meteorologist in Mt. Holly, New Jersey. They are slow-moving and with the already saturated grounds ... there could be some problems with flash flooding.The storms were expected to move through later in the day and soak the region with one half to one inch of rain, with the threat of more in some localized areas, NWS said.With a likely break from the rain on Saturday, a new threat of thunderstorms and showers was forecast to emerge on Sunday, said AccuWeather.com senior meteorologist Paul Walker.Parts of the Midwest would likely see blistering winds and hail as strong thunderstorms were predicted Friday.Walker said he could not rule out the possibility of an isolated tornado given the stormy weather expected in Kansas and central Nebraska.Damaging storms swept through the region pummeling Omaha, Nebraska and Kansas City, Missouri with large hail Thursday night, according to AccuWeather.com.The severe weather shut down Omaha's Eppley Airfield and hail damaged at least seven aircraft during the storm that brought nearly two inches of rain and wind gusts around 70mph.Such extreme conditions haven't spared other parts of the country this week.

Strong quake hits off NE Japan; no reported damage

TOKYO – A magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck off Japan's northeastern coast Friday, triggering a tsunami advisory that was later lifted. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries in the temblor, which rattled the area devastated earlier this year by a massive quake and tsunami.The 2:36 p.m. (0536 GMT) quake was centered about 185 miles (300 kilometers) northeast of Tokyo and at a depth of 12 miles (20 kilometers), slightly south of where the magnitude-9.0 temblor struck March 11, Japan's Meteorological Agency said.The agency issued a tsunami advisory, predicting waves of 20 inches (50 centimeters) along the coast of Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures, where a nuclear plant crippled by March's quake-spawned tsunami is located. The agency lifted the advisory about 30 minutes later.There were no abnormalities in key equipment at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, said Chie Hosoda, an official with Tokyo Electric Power Co., the plant's operator. She said some of the plant's workers assigned to the coastal side of the facility temporarily retreated inside the building.This was the first sizeable quake in the area in over a month. In the weeks following the huge March quake, Japan was frequently rocked by aftershocks, including several stronger than magnitude 7.0. Their frequency and size have declined considerably.
In Onagawa, about 210 miles (340 kilometers) north of Tokyo, town official Hironori Suzuki said there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. There was no visible swelling of the ocean, he said.It was a rather big one, perhaps it was because we are still in a makeshift office, Suzuki told public broadcaster NHK. Suzuki said the town has urged all residents via community broadcast to stay away from the coast and evacuate to higher ground.The quake caused buildings in Tokyo to sway. Bullet trains and several other local train services in the region were temporarily suspended for safety checks.Just over 20,000 people died or disappeared across Japan's northeastern coastline after the March earthquake and tsunami. Some 100,000 others were forced to evacuate their homes because of the threat of radiation from the crippled Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant.March's tsunami destroyed cooling systems at that plant, sending its reactors to core meltdowns that caused massive amount of radiation to leak out of the complex. The radiation leaking has since dramatically declined.The government has since ordered nuclear plant operators to take additional safety measures in case of a major quake and tsunami.

October summit to define new euro structures

Standard & Poor's on Friday downgraded Venezuela's credit ratings as it implemented a new methodology more heavily focused on political risk—a key weakness in the oil-producing country.S&P cut Venezuela's long-term sovereign rating to B-plus from BB-minus. The outlook on the new rating is stable. The agency's new methodology was published on June 30, a little more than a month before it invoked political concerns to downgrade U.S. credit ratings.Political risk has been a constant issue in Venezuela, where change in economic rules and nationalization of companies are common. Uncertainty about the health of President Hugo Chavez, who had surgery in Cuba earlier this summer to remove a cancerous tumor followed by chemotherapy treatment, has added to those risks, S&P said in a statement.In our opinion, changing and arbitrary laws, price and exchange controls, and other distorting and unpredictable economic measures have undermined private-sector investment and hurt productivity, weakening Venezuela's domestic economy, S&P analyst Roberto Sifon Arevalo wrote in a report.
Venezuela's vast oil and gas reserves somewhat offset the policy uncertainty, S&P said. The country posts steady current account surpluses which, combined with strict capital controls, result in positive net asset positions.However, S&P expressed concern about the actual level of Venezuela's gold and foreign exchange reserves after reports that the country plans to repatriate them.When you have the reserves held abroad, you do have some level of confidence, Arevalo told Reuters in an interview. That is not going to be the case anymore. They are going to be held at the central bank domestically, then you fall in the same circle of lack of transparency that everything else has in Venezuela.

EU countries have agreed to impose an oil embargo on Syria in the hope of accelerating the fall of President Bashar Assad by cutting off his money.Diplomats in the Political and Security Committee in Brussels on Friday (19 August) tasked the European External Action Service (EEAS) with drawing up legal proposals for the oil ban. The new measures will be discussed early next week and are expected to come into force in a matter of days.France, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK backed the move. Cyprus, Greece and Italy voiced worries it would hurt ordinary Syrians but did not put up strong opposition.One EU diplomat said the oil ban is designed to speed up regime change. The general feeling of today's meeting is that we are now entering into a transition phase [in Syria] ... and when we are looking at transition, then perhaps political considerations outweigh economic considerations [for EU oil companies],he said.Another EU diplomat told this website: The Brits said Syrian people are suffering anyway and are willing to accept some temporary hardships. The Dutch said we need smart sanctions minimising the impact on ordinary people, but we can't use this as an excuse for half-hearted measures.A third diplomatic contact said: The fact that the 27 countries have tasked [the EEAS] to draw up legal proposals suggests it's pretty much a done deal.The legal proposals will also look at: extending sanctions to Syrian banks and telecommunications firms; suspending European Investment Bank assistance; and imposing visa bans and asset freezes on people supporting the regime or benefitting from its actions. Current sanctions cover only people directly involved in violent repression.

The White House and the EU have told Syrian President Bashar Assad he should give up power following a UN report chronicling eyewitness accounts of mass-scale murder and torture.US President Barack Obama in a written statement on Thursday (18 August) said For the sake of the Syrian people, the time has come for President Assad to step aside.EU foreign relations chief Catherine Ashton in a communique endorsed by all 27 EU countries added shortly afterward: The EU notes the complete loss of Bashar Assad's legitimacy in the eyes of the Syrian people and the necessity for him to step aside.Europe's biggest foreign policy actors - France, Germany and the UK - highlighted the EU line in a separate statement. Poland, citing its role as the rotating EU presidency, followed suit.Obama also issued an executive order seizing all Syrian state property on US territory and banning US citizens from conducting any form of business with Syria, including in the oil and gas sector.He underlined that Libya-type military action is not an option, however. With the vast majority of Syrian oil and gas exports handled by British, Dutch and French companies, EU diplomats will in Brussels on Friday discuss potential economic sanctions.But with the UK saying an oil ban would hurt ordinary Syrians, any decision may be delayed until an EU foreign ministers' meeting in September, causing frustration in some circles. The United States is hitting hard while the EU waits and mulls over what further steps to take. New Chinese stealth jet starts talk of Russian help

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Similarities between a new Chinese fighter jet and a prototype Russian plane have brought suggestions that Moscow may be quietly helping Beijing compete with the world's military powers.Experts say the fifth-generation J-20 fighter, which made its maiden flight in January during a visit of the U.S. defense secretary, could have its origins in the Mikoyan 1.44 stealth jet that never made it to the production line.A highly placed source close to Russia's defense industry said the similarities suggested Mikoyan technology had been passed into the hands of Chinese arms designers.It looks like they got access...to documents relating to the Mikoyan -- the aircraft that the Ministry of Defense skipped over in its tender to create a stealth fighter, he said, speaking on condition of anonymity.He said it was not clear whether such a transfer of technology had been legal. Analysts say Russia's assistance to the Chinese may help Moscow keep tabs on the rising military power's defense capabilities of its eastern neighbor.Independent analyst Adil Mukashev, who specializes in ties between Russia and China, suggested there had been a financial transaction.China bought the technology for parts, including the tail of the Mikoyan, for money, he said.China's Defense Ministry declined a request for comment. Russia's United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), which oversees production of the Mikoyan jets, denies any technology or design transfer took place with China.
Only the United States has an operational fifth-generation fighter, which is nearly impossible to track on radar. Russia is working to start serial production of its prototype craft in the next five to six years.China's creation of such a plane would put the country into an elite group of military powers, although analysts say it will take years to perfect the craft.The source said Chinese officials had been invited to the plane's first public display when Russia was in the early stages of creating a fighter jet to compete with the U.S. F-22.Rival designer Sukhoi was eventually contracted to help build the fighter and the Mikoyan 1.44, which lacks the radar-evading engineering of the U.S. F-22, was passed over.

Russia, the world's top energy producer, has fed China, the largest energy consumer, with natural gas and oil in its fast rise to become a global power. But it has been unable to keep up with China's military spending, which was second only to the United States' in 2010.Relations between the two countries are cordial but, in a sign that the two sides are suspicious of each other, Moscow is boosting its military capabilities in Russia's Far East to defend its position in resource-rich Siberia.China, once a big buyer of Russian tanks, helicopters and jet fighters, has slowed its purchases from Moscow as its own production grew but military ties remain.

Hamas’ military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, called off a ceasefire with Israel late Friday, Hamas’ Al-Aqsa radio reported.According to the report, which was quoted by the Bethlehem-based Ma’an news agency, Hamas will allow terror factions in Gaza to respond to Israeli attacks in the Strip. Those attacks come in response to provocations by the same terror groups in Gaza, such as Thursday’s multiple attacks near Eilat or the barrage of rockets which were fired at Israel from Gaza on Friday.
A representative of the militant group was quoted as having said,There can be no truce with the Israeli occupation while it commits massacres against the Palestinian people without justification.The representative added that Al-Qassam calls on all factions to respond to the Israeli occupation’s crimes.The ceasefire was declared by Hamas following the IDF’s Operation Cast Lead in Gaza in 2009, but has been broken many times when terror groups fired rockets and missiles towards Israel’s southern communities.More than 20 rockets, missiles and mortars were fired by terrorists from Gaza into Israeli territory on Friday. Luckily, most of them exploded in open areas and did not cause physical injuries or damage. In at least one case, the Iron Dome defense system was able to shoot down a rocket before it hit the city of Ashkelon.
One attack on the city of Ashdod resulted in a rocket landing in a synagogue in the city. The Gaza-based Popular Resistance Committee terrorist organization denied on Friday that it was behind the multiple terror attacks which killed eight people in southern Israel on Thursday.We salute (the operation) and we are proud of it, but we do not claim it, Abu Mujahid, a spokesperson for the organization told AFP.He added, The occupation wants to pin this operation on us in order to escape its own internal problems.He made the comments at the funeral of five of the group’s members who were killed in an Israeli retaliation shortly after the terrorist attacks.That attack killed top terrorist Abu Awad Kamel a-Neirab, commander of the organization’s military wing. He was killed while meeting in a house along with other terrorist heads of the group. Also killed was a child who was with them, although it was clear that keeping the child there was placing him in danger.In a short statement he made after the attack, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said: “We all witnessed an attempt to ratchet up the level of terror emanating from Sinai. If someone thinks that Israel will put up with this, he is wrong.I have established a principle: when Israeli citizens are hurt, we hit back immediately, and with force. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said on Friday that the IDF’s instant retaliation for the murderous attacks in southern Israel was just the beginning.During a visit with soldiers who were wounded in the attacks and are currently hospitalized in the Soroka Hospital in Be’er Sheva, Netanyahu said, IDF soldiers and YAMAM warriors reacted immediately yesterday. We killed the leaders of the organization that sent the terrorists. But that is only the first response.Netanyahu added, We have a policy to charge a very high price from those who hurt us and this policy is implemented.In the attack, which occurred just hours after the attacks which claimed the lives of seven Israelis, the terrorist commander who presided over the attacks was killed.The top terrorist was Abu Awad Kamel a-Neirab, commander of the Salah a-Din Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees.A-Neirab was killed while meeting in a house along with two other terrorist heads of the terrorist group and a child who was with them, although it was clear that keeping the child there was placing him in danger.
In a short statement he made after the IDF's retaliation, Netanyahu said:We all witnessed an attempt to ratchet up the level of terror emanating from Sinai. If someone thinks that Israel will put up with this, he is wrong.I have established a principle: when Israeli citizens are hurt, we hit back immediately, and with force. This principle was implemented today. The people who gave the order to murder our civilians, who were hiding in Gaza, are no longer among the living, Netanyahu said.

Tropical Storm Harvey forms, approaches Honduras

MIAMI – Tropical Storm Harvey has formed in the Atlantic Ocean and is threatening to bring high winds and several inches of rain to parts of Central America.Tropical storm warnings have been issued for the Bay Islands of Honduras, the coast of Belize and parts of the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Watches are in effect for coastal Honduras and Guatemala.The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Friday that Harvey's maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph (72 kph). The storm was centered about 125 miles (201 kilometers) east of Isla Roatan, Honduras. It was moving west at 12 mph (19 kph).Meanwhile, far out in the Pacific, Greg has weakened to a tropical storm and is expected to dissipate in the coming days.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Much of the Mid-Atlantic braced on Friday for a round of strong thunderstorms to pelt the region with heavy rainfall, gusty winds and lightning, forecasters said.Parts of eastern Pennsylvania, much of New Jersey and areas of Maryland and Delaware were under flash flood watches through the evening hours, according to the National Weather Service.There's the potential for the storms to produce heavy rain, said Kristin Kline, NWS meteorologist in Mt. Holly, New Jersey. They are slow-moving and with the already saturated grounds ... there could be some problems with flash flooding.The storms were expected to move through later in the day and soak the region with one half to one inch of rain, with the threat of more in some localized areas, NWS said.With a likely break from the rain on Saturday, a new threat of thunderstorms and showers was forecast to emerge on Sunday, said AccuWeather.com senior meteorologist Paul Walker.Parts of the Midwest would likely see blistering winds and hail as strong thunderstorms were predicted Friday.Walker said he could not rule out the possibility of an isolated tornado given the stormy weather expected in Kansas and central Nebraska.Damaging storms swept through the region pummeling Omaha, Nebraska and Kansas City, Missouri with large hail Thursday night, according to AccuWeather.com.The severe weather shut down Omaha's Eppley Airfield and hail damaged at least seven aircraft during the storm that brought nearly two inches of rain and wind gusts around 70mph.Such extreme conditions haven't spared other parts of the country this week.

Strong quake hits off NE Japan; no reported damage

TOKYO – A magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck off Japan's northeastern coast Friday, triggering a tsunami advisory that was later lifted. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries in the temblor, which rattled the area devastated earlier this year by a massive quake and tsunami.The 2:36 p.m. (0536 GMT) quake was centered about 185 miles (300 kilometers) northeast of Tokyo and at a depth of 12 miles (20 kilometers), slightly south of where the magnitude-9.0 temblor struck March 11, Japan's Meteorological Agency said.The agency issued a tsunami advisory, predicting waves of 20 inches (50 centimeters) along the coast of Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures, where a nuclear plant crippled by March's quake-spawned tsunami is located. The agency lifted the advisory about 30 minutes later.There were no abnormalities in key equipment at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, said Chie Hosoda, an official with Tokyo Electric Power Co., the plant's operator. She said some of the plant's workers assigned to the coastal side of the facility temporarily retreated inside the building.This was the first sizeable quake in the area in over a month. In the weeks following the huge March quake, Japan was frequently rocked by aftershocks, including several stronger than magnitude 7.0. Their frequency and size have declined considerably.
In Onagawa, about 210 miles (340 kilometers) north of Tokyo, town official Hironori Suzuki said there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. There was no visible swelling of the ocean, he said.It was a rather big one, perhaps it was because we are still in a makeshift office, Suzuki told public broadcaster NHK. Suzuki said the town has urged all residents via community broadcast to stay away from the coast and evacuate to higher ground.The quake caused buildings in Tokyo to sway. Bullet trains and several other local train services in the region were temporarily suspended for safety checks.Just over 20,000 people died or disappeared across Japan's northeastern coastline after the March earthquake and tsunami. Some 100,000 others were forced to evacuate their homes because of the threat of radiation from the crippled Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant.March's tsunami destroyed cooling systems at that plant, sending its reactors to core meltdowns that caused massive amount of radiation to leak out of the complex. The radiation leaking has since dramatically declined.The government has since ordered nuclear plant operators to take additional safety measures in case of a major quake and tsunami.

For his government, the same debt is the safest possible investment.Russia, the world’s largest energy producer, has boosted its holdings of U.S. debt by more than 1,600 percent since September 2006, according to U.S. Treasury Department data. Russia used surging commodity prices to build the world’s third- largest reserves pile, boosted in part by return on Treasuries.Putin, 58, who oversaw the largest buildup of U.S. debt holdings in Russia’s history as president from 2000 to 2008, may return to the post after elections next year. The country is now one of the world’s 10 largest holders of the securities with $110 billion at the end of June, about 70 percent more than when Putin left the Kremlin.They are sending out a message largely for domestic consumption, Edwin Gutierrez, who helps manage about $7 billion in emerging-market debt at Aberdeen Asset Management in London, said in a phone interview on Aug. 17. It’s ironic that these voices of complaint come as they experience massive capital appreciation.Russia’s 2020 dollar bonds returned 9.5 percent this year compared with 12.7 percent for similar-maturity U.S. debt. This month, the Russian dollar bonds advanced 0.7 percent against a 5.6 percent increase for U.S. bonds. Ten-year Treasury yields dropped below two percent for the first time yesterday, touching a record-low 1.9735 percent before rising again.
U.S. Bonds Outperform
The yield on 10-year U.S. Treasuries has fallen 2.77 percentage points, or 277 basis points, over the past five years, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The yield on U.S. Treasuries due in 2016 has fallen 110 basis points this year, almost double the 66 basis-point drop for comparable German bunds.The American bond market has outperformed world bond indexes since Standard & Poor’s downgraded the U.S. credit rating on Aug. 5, showing market concern that the nation may default hasn’t risen. Moody’s Investors Service and Fitch Ratings, the two next biggest rating companies, affirmed their AAA ratings on the U.S.S&P’s first downgrade of U.S. debt to AA+ sparked a global selloff in equities as investors sought shelter in traditional havens like Treasuries. The Securities and Exchange Commission is scrutinizing the decision.
Beyond Its Means
The U.S. is living beyond its means and shifting part of the weight of its problems onto the world economy, acting to some extent as a parasite on the global economy and its dollar monopoly position, Putin told a youth camp outside Moscow on Aug. 1 in response to questions about the risk of an American default.After the S&P downgrade, Russia joined the largest holders of U.S. debt in rushing to voice support by pledging to retain their Treasuries holdings.Russia doesn’t expect any alternative whatsoever to American sovereign debt in its holdings for the next five years, Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak said in a telephone interview on Aug. 16.The U.S. debt market is still the most liquid, dependable and safe, Storchak said. There’s absolutely no reason for Russia to reconsider its position on U.S. securities or to change its investment strategy now. And not just now -- for some time to come.
Oil Revenue Boost
Even after reducing holdings 38 percent from an October 2010 peak of $176 billion, Russia’s $110 billion in U.S. Treasuries at the end of June accounted for 21 percent of its international reserves and gold holdings, up from 17 percent when the foreign exchange stockpile peaked in August 2008.Russian holdings of U.S. Treasuries have expanded in the last five years as soaring oil revenue boosted the reserves of the world’s largest crude producer. Urals crude oil, the country’s main export blend, has almost doubled in price to $106.10 a barrel from $54.44 over the same period.As long as the dollar remains the main currency in which the central bank tracks reserves and raw-materials companies receive their revenue, Russia really doesn’t have any alternatives, Oleg Vyugin, chairman at Moscow-based MDM Bank and a former first deputy chairman of the central bank, said in a phone interview Aug. 17. “The Federal Reserve system is the center of global liquidity.

They held a combined $119 billion of Russia’s reserves as of July.As opposed to the other central banks, Russia won’t see a need to change the structure of its reserves sharply, Natalia Orlova and Dmitry Dolgin, analysts at Alfa Bank, Russia’s largest non-state lender, said in a research note on Aug. 17.Russian oil and gas sales abroad account for about 64 percent of exports, while metals sales are another 15 percent, they wrote. Yesterday’s crisis meeting between Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy was arranged before the participants knew of the disastrous growth figures in the Eurozone that emerged in the morning.The background to the meeting was last week’s tumult in the world financial markets. Shares had gone into freefall after the downgrading of America’s credit rating.Worse than that, however, were the tremors rattling some of Europe’s most important banks, notably in France, caused by further evidence of the utter failure of even the more developed European economies to live anything like within their means.Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy met to discuss the crisis yesterday, with the outcome of conversations suggesting a fiscal union could be created - of which Germany will dictate terms
Chancellor Merkel has managed to use the hard-earned money of German taxpayers to bail out profligate Eurozone countries without suffering any political fall-out. Individual bail-outs have been tried, but they obstinately refuse to work. Only an idiot would think they would: they treat only the symptoms of Europe’s economic decline, not its causes.If only everybody could be like the Germans, and spend just a mite more than they earn, then all would be well, the markets seem to say.Germany lay in ruins in 1945, but it then invested in manufacturing plant, developed first-class education, innovated, raised its productivity and competed on quality not price.Over the next 60 years it won the peace as comprehensively as it lost the war.

What has happened to big dog conservatives? The last three years our country has been stuck in a growing Constitutional crisis regarding the eligibility of Barack Hussein Obama to be President, yet most of our media, political leaders, and even those running for President have become mute regarding a sea of growing questions and scandals surrounding Obama.Has someone whispered in their ears and threatened them or their children? GOP powerhouses Sarah Palin and Karl Rove have put down birthers and apparently want them to shut up. Palin has called us annoying and Rove has vilified us on O’Reilly, saying we have real issues to deal with – as if the legitimacy and legality of our Commander in Chief is unreal! Most conservative politicians and media are extremely quiet about this very real issue. Does our Constitution and the truth mean nothing now? Since before he was elected, Barack Obama has refused to show his long form birth certificate, even as the media and political leaders demanded that McCain show his birth certificate when he ran. McCain quickly showed it and Obama did not. The media ignored the breach and secrecy of Obama.As Obama took over the White House in 2008, investigations grew and lawsuits started flying against Obama regarding the growing question not only about his missing birth certificate and then the two fraudulent versions he released to the public, but also about his purloined Social Security number, his missing Selective Service record, and mountains of other missing documents.
Some of these suits were spearheaded by attorneys Philip Berg, Orly Taitz, and Gary Kreep. Weirdly, all of the lawsuits, so far, have been thrown out of court for so-called lack of standing – as if ordinary citizens have no rights in the eyes of the law.On www.obamacrimes.com, Phil Berg, who I have interviewed almost weekly for several years on my national radio show www.therothshow.com, showcases affidavits from several lawsuits, including from Obama’s own step-grandmother, saying he was born in Mombasa Kenya. Kenyan Parliament members have even stated on the record that Obama was born in Kenya, while the former ambassador to Kenya has stated the same thing on a Detroit Radio show. Former Hawaiin elections Chief Clerk Tim Adams signed an affidavit in 2008 saying that there was no long form birth certificate for Obama in Hawaii. Then we watched as Dr. Jerri Corsi, author of blockbuster Obamanation, flew to Kenya himself to investigate. After covering all trails from Kenya to Hawaii, he also determined that Obama lied. I have interviewed Corsi for years and know his amazing work. My blood chilled when he stated on my radio show the real story is that Obama lied. He was not born in Hawaii.With the growing pressure on Obama, he finally announced that he was going to show his long form birth certificate in a press conference to settle the growing scandal once and for all. You may remember that Donald Trump, then a potential GOP Presidential hopeful, was all over this issue, challenging Obama to show his long form birth certificate and settle the controversy. Most interestingly, when Obama finally released the certificate to the public, it was quickly revealed to be a colossal hoax! A forgery! Meanwhile, Trump was atypically silent. And all the people who should have been front and center questioning the non-existent vetting process of Obama and leading the charge to get this clearly ineligible president to resign or be impeached – Palin, Bachmann, Romney, O’Reilly and other GOP and media moguls – were stupefyingly silent.Michele Bachman is on the record with Stephanopoulos saying when questioned, that the certification of live birth is good enough for me. Really…..and you want to run the country? Doug Vogt was one of the many computer-scanning experts to closely analyze the long form birth certificate presented by Obama. Vogt categorically stated it was a forgery. He offered a 25-page complaint and even registered it with the FBI.
Investigator Doug Hagmann and his associate Joe Hagmann, also analyzed the document, stating it was a presented forgery, which is the same informed opinion held by attorney Steve Eichler, Executive Director of www.teaparty.org, and Frank Salvato, editor and publisher of www.newmediajournal.us. On April 27th, 2011, the nation was shown Obama’s forged birth certificate. Jerry Corsi stated that he and WorldNetDaily.com’s Joseph Farah were aware and alerted to a plot to share a phony birth certificate two months before it was released. Alex Jones and Aaron Dykes even wrote an article detailing this plot and cover-up. Notice that this never made national mainstream news.Naturally, those running for President will run on how they uniquely plan to serve and fix our country, but to view the whole eligibility issue and presented forgery as a nothing waste of time issue is to betray our country even further. Those pushing through the line to be President and lead had better swallow their gum and grow a backbone before they even think about leading this remarkable country. Their behavior and statements are not impressive.I love my country and President Obama, in my opinion, has never proven that he is eligible to be President as McCain did. In fact, the government penchant for creating green jobs ultimately reveals it is actually in the job-destruction business.If you wanted clear evidence of just how many real energy sector jobs are being blocked by President Obama, the EPA and other federal and state bureaucracies, consider the recent report Progress Denied: A Study on the Potential Economic Impact of Permitting Challenges Facing Energy Projects published by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. According to the study, Obamanomics (my term, not theirs) right now has its foot on the throat of prospective energy sector job growth, to the tune of millions of new, real jobs.
According to the detailed study, if allowed to flourish, an investment phase for planning and construction for new energy projects—that’s real hydrocarbon energy projects, not the pathetic renewable kind—including offshore drilling, would generate $577 billion in direct investment and generate a $1.1 trillion increase in U.S. GDP, including $352 in employment earnings. The report estimates that would create up to 2 million new energy sector jobs during each year of the construction phase.Next up, the operations phase would likely generate $99 billion in direct annual output, yielding a further $145 billion in GDP and $35 billion in employment earnings. Taken together, that would create an average of 791,200 jobs per year of operation. In total, assuming 20 years of new energy sector construction and operation if off-limits drilling et al was allowed, that would add approximately $3.4 trillion in GDP, including $1.4 trillion in employment earnings, and an additional one million+ more jobs per year.And what can be seen in macrocosm can also be seen in microcosm.On the eve of Earth Day 2010, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and U.S. VP Joe Biden announced, amid much fanfare, a new green job creating scheme via a $20 million federal grant to invest in weatherization. That’s insulating roofs, attic spaces etc. It was claimed the scheme would create around 2,000 jobs and retro-fit 2,000 homes in poorer neighborhoods. Over a year into the program just three homes have been retro-fitted and 14 jobs—mostly administrative—created. Biden’s triple win of boosting the economy, reducing consumer bills and lowering gas emissions turns out instead to be a triple whammy—for federal taxpayers, that is. The problem is that the Seattle experience of finding Green jobs come at a ludicrously high cost per job, much as it has wherever the dead hand of Obamanomics has utilized TARP funds to promote green jobs.But then, it isn’t just Obamanomics that sponsors the green subsidy-job loss nexus.

In early August the UK manufacturers’ association, the EEF, said that green taxes and climate change policies had reached a tipping point where they are hitting jobs and investment and economically crippling the recovery. Among the litany of green climate levies that are cited as biting by the EEF: fuel duties, air passenger levies, levies on waste, landfill, the carbon reduction commitment and the government’s move to increase tax on North Sea oil and gas.According to a separate hard-hitting report The Green Mirage published by the UK think-tank Civitas and written by the director of the Renewable Energy Foundation (REF), the government’s plans to boost renewable energy projects will actually destroy up to 30,000 British jobs. Describing the UK Government’s green policies as staggeringly far-fetched, the director of the REF warned that green subsidies would put people on the dole as well as lead to higher energy prices. The report went on to point out that the government’s ¬£5 billion subsidy for renewable electricity generators in the eight years to 2010 was the equivalent of paying every worker in the wind industry £230,000. In effect, every wind industry job was subsidized to the tune of £54,000 in 2010.And for what benefit? The report goes on to quote European Commission models which suggest the EU’s climate policies generally will have only slight benefits for GDP and employment by 2020, benefits that, for all the world-leading UK domestic investment in renewables, will not be felt by the UK at all.In June 2010, a spokesman for the European Metals Association, speaking to European Energy Review, warned that the EU’s inward-looking unilateral climate policy would put European producers of non-ferrous metals out of business stating: What we are seeing is a slow process of delayed or cancelled investments, and even factories closing. This could spell the end of aluminium and other non-ferrous metals in the EU. And all this at the very time that global demand for metals is increasing.The evidence for how green jobs literally ‘feed off’ real jobs—diverting resources from real into phoney jobs, has been well-documented. Not least in its disastrous effect on the Spanish economy; an economy currently approaching the same dire straits already tossing Greece, Portugal and Ireland around like corks. The fact is that simple economics reveals a clear nexus between regimes of green subsidies that create a green jobs mirage, and the mass disappearance of, or delay in creating, real jobs.
It was precisely this point that Chevron’s VP for Global Exploration, Bobby Ryan, was making on Fox News in mid-August as Big Oil, for once, came out swinging on Obama’s offshore drilling moratorium. Ryan pointed out that the energy sector already currently employs 9.2 million Americans. In an example of masterly understatement, given the figures we saw above, Ryan pointed out,It could employ a lot more. Showing a map of the off-limits continental shelf, Ryan made the case that 2.8 trillion barrels of oil equivalent awaits tapping off the U.S. coastline. Extraction of that alone, not to mention onshore shale gas, would require a whole lot of extra manpower.The green subsidy industry is not even close to having any impact on still rising global carbon emissions. It further hampers struggling national economies with no discernible benefit. And it threatens national electricity generation and thus future prosperity. It does, however, make bundles of cash for central government, some of which ends up recycled as yet more job-busting green subsidies.If political greens could, for once, put the best interests of their country first taking their ideological foot off the throat of potentially explosive real energy sector growth, the markets could yet be primed to strike an energy-led economic gusher.

For his government, the same debt is the safest possible investment.Russia, the world’s largest energy producer, has boosted its holdings of U.S. debt by more than 1,600 percent since September 2006, according to U.S. Treasury Department data. Russia used surging commodity prices to build the world’s third- largest reserves pile, boosted in part by return on Treasuries.Putin, 58, who oversaw the largest buildup of U.S. debt holdings in Russia’s history as president from 2000 to 2008, may return to the post after elections next year. The country is now one of the world’s 10 largest holders of the securities with $110 billion at the end of June, about 70 percent more than when Putin left the Kremlin.They are sending out a message largely for domestic consumption, Edwin Gutierrez, who helps manage about $7 billion in emerging-market debt at Aberdeen Asset Management in London, said in a phone interview on Aug. 17. It’s ironic that these voices of complaint come as they experience massive capital appreciation.Russia’s 2020 dollar bonds returned 9.5 percent this year compared with 12.7 percent for similar-maturity U.S. debt. This month, the Russian dollar bonds advanced 0.7 percent against a 5.6 percent increase for U.S. bonds. Ten-year Treasury yields dropped below two percent for the first time yesterday, touching a record-low 1.9735 percent before rising again.
U.S. Bonds Outperform
The yield on 10-year U.S. Treasuries has fallen 2.77 percentage points, or 277 basis points, over the past five years, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The yield on U.S. Treasuries due in 2016 has fallen 110 basis points this year, almost double the 66 basis-point drop for comparable German bunds.The American bond market has outperformed world bond indexes since Standard & Poor’s downgraded the U.S. credit rating on Aug. 5, showing market concern that the nation may default hasn’t risen. Moody’s Investors Service and Fitch Ratings, the two next biggest rating companies, affirmed their AAA ratings on the U.S.S&P’s first downgrade of U.S. debt to AA+ sparked a global selloff in equities as investors sought shelter in traditional havens like Treasuries. The Securities and Exchange Commission is scrutinizing the decision.
Beyond Its Means
The U.S. is living beyond its means and shifting part of the weight of its problems onto the world economy, acting to some extent as a parasite on the global economy and its dollar monopoly position, Putin told a youth camp outside Moscow on Aug. 1 in response to questions about the risk of an American default.After the S&P downgrade, Russia joined the largest holders of U.S. debt in rushing to voice support by pledging to retain their Treasuries holdings.Russia doesn’t expect any alternative whatsoever to American sovereign debt in its holdings for the next five years, Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak said in a telephone interview on Aug. 16.The U.S. debt market is still the most liquid, dependable and safe, Storchak said. There’s absolutely no reason for Russia to reconsider its position on U.S. securities or to change its investment strategy now. And not just now -- for some time to come.

Chancellor Merkel has managed to use the hard-earned money of German taxpayers to bail out profligate Eurozone countries without suffering any political fall-out. White House science czar John P. Holdren seems to have it all in hand. Holdren’s 1977 book Ecoscience called for a planetary regime to carry out forced abortions and mandatory sterilization procedures, as well as drugging the water supply, in an effort to cull the human surplus.Holdren is now in charge of geoengineering the planet to protect against supposed man-made climate change. For me, this represents a far greater and more imminent threat to humanity than any fantasy about alien invasions from outer space.

Selfless euphemisms for selfish agendas clot the language of liberals. A listening tour dresses up the self-seeking campaign as a selfless act. The politician isn’t on tour for his own sake, but to listen to you. The left called its totalitarian states, people’s republics, when the people had nothing to do with it. And the listening tours have as much to do with listening to people, as the republics did with being ruled by them.The Nation’s editor, Katrina vanden Heuvel insists that Obama should fight for the People’s Budget. This budget being a thing apart from the budget that the people actually want. The People’s Budget was produced by the Congressional Progressive Caucus, consisting of left-wing loons and crooks like Charlie Rangel, John Conyers, Barney Frank, Keith Ellison, Alcee Hastings and Sheila Jackson-Lee.

So how about spending a few trillion more dollars so you can save even more money.

What has happened to big dog conservatives? The last three years our country has been stuck in a growing Constitutional crisis regarding the eligibility of Barack Hussein Obama to be President, yet most of our media, political leaders, and even those running for President have become mute regarding a sea of growing questions and scandals surrounding Obama.Has someone whispered in their ears and threatened them or their children? GOP powerhouses Sarah Palin and Karl Rove have put down birthers and apparently want them to shut up. Palin has called us annoying and Rove has vilified us on O’Reilly, saying we have real issues to deal with – as if the legitimacy and legality of our Commander in Chief is unreal! Most conservative politicians and media are extremely quiet about this very real issue. Does our Constitution and the truth mean nothing now? Since before he was elected, Barack Obama has refused to show his long form birth certificate, even as the media and political leaders demanded that McCain show his birth certificate when he ran. McCain quickly showed it and Obama did not. The media ignored the breach and secrecy of Obama.As Obama took over the White House in 2008, investigations grew and lawsuits started flying against Obama regarding the growing question not only about his missing birth certificate and then the two fraudulent versions he released to the public, but also about his purloined Social Security number, his missing Selective Service record, and mountains of other missing documents.
Some of these suits were spearheaded by attorneys Philip Berg, Orly Taitz, and Gary Kreep. Weirdly, all of the lawsuits, so far, have been thrown out of court for so-called lack of standing – as if ordinary citizens have no rights in the eyes of the law.On www.obamacrimes.com, Phil Berg, who I have interviewed almost weekly for several years on my national radio show www.therothshow.com, showcases affidavits from several lawsuits, including from Obama’s own step-grandmother, saying he was born in Mombasa Kenya. Kenyan Parliament members have even stated on the record that Obama was born in Kenya, while the former ambassador to Kenya has stated the same thing on a Detroit Radio show. Former Hawaiin elections Chief Clerk Tim Adams signed an affidavit in 2008 saying that there was no long form birth certificate for Obama in Hawaii. Then we watched as Dr. Jerri Corsi, author of blockbuster Obamanation, flew to Kenya himself to investigate. After covering all trails from Kenya to Hawaii, he also determined that Obama lied. I have interviewed Corsi for years and know his amazing work. My blood chilled when he stated on my radio show the real story is that Obama lied. He was not born in Hawaii.With the growing pressure on Obama, he finally announced that he was going to show his long form birth certificate in a press conference to settle the growing scandal once and for all. You may remember that Donald Trump, then a potential GOP Presidential hopeful, was all over this issue, challenging Obama to show his long form birth certificate and settle the controversy. Most interestingly, when Obama finally released the certificate to the public, it was quickly revealed to be a colossal hoax! A forgery! Meanwhile, Trump was atypically silent. And all the people who should have been front and center questioning the non-existent vetting process of Obama and leading the charge to get this clearly ineligible president to resign or be impeached – Palin, Bachmann, Romney, O’Reilly and other GOP and media moguls – were stupefyingly silent.Michele Bachman is on the record with Stephanopoulos saying when questioned, that the certification of live birth is good enough for me. Really…..and you want to run the country? Doug Vogt was one of the many computer-scanning experts to closely analyze the long form birth certificate presented by Obama. Vogt categorically stated it was a forgery. He offered a 25-page complaint and even registered it with the FBI.
Investigator Doug Hagmann and his associate Joe Hagmann, also analyzed the document, stating it was a presented forgery, which is the same informed opinion held by attorney Steve Eichler, Executive Director of www.teaparty.org, and Frank Salvato, editor and publisher of www.newmediajournal.us. On April 27th, 2011, the nation was shown Obama’s forged birth certificate. Jerry Corsi stated that he and WorldNetDaily.com’s Joseph Farah were aware and alerted to a plot to share a phony birth certificate two months before it was released. Alex Jones and Aaron Dykes even wrote an article detailing this plot and cover-up. Notice that this never made national mainstream news.Naturally, those running for President will run on how they uniquely plan to serve and fix our country, but to view the whole eligibility issue and presented forgery as a nothing waste of time issue is to betray our country even further. Those pushing through the line to be President and lead had better swallow their gum and grow a backbone before they even think about leading this remarkable country. Their behavior and statements are not impressive.I love my country and President Obama, in my opinion, has never proven that he is eligible to be President as McCain did. He has spent nearly $2 million dollars on attorneys’ fees covering up all his college records, passport and birth certificate records, et al. Why? There comes a point when even how to save the planet boils down to hard economics—what can we afford? Bottom line: the green refrain whatever it costs won’t do in the real world. Whichever side of the Atlantic we live on, the economic indicators are all registering in the red ‘critical’ zone when it comes to the destructive impact of diverting precious economic resources into green subsidies, particularly on real jobs.It was all predicted to be so different. A new, if almost wholly subsidized, green industry was supposed to create hundreds of thousands of new, lasting jobs. They created some. But alas, a wealth of evidence has emerged revealing how “green” jobs are largely created at the expense of real jobs, or only exist so long as the umbilical cord of public subsidy isn’t cut, or both.Nowhere is this so blatant as in the energy-associated sector, the engine room of Western civilization and all modern society. So you might wonder why it is that the greatest impediment to economic revival is the gullibly green bull-headedness of many leading politicians—left and right of the ideological divide—and their complete lack of ability to grasp sound money economics and realistic energy policies.
Obamanomics: Job buster-in-chief
Given the conveyor-belt of White House spin you might actually believe that the Obama administration was in the job creation—or, at least, the aiding job creation—business. As such you might put your hard-earned income on Obama’s latest hair-brained schemes, including a new Department of Jobs. Back on Planet Reality, however, a whole bunch of studies and indicators reveal plainly that government patently isn’t in the job creation business. In fact, the government penchant for creating green jobs ultimately reveals it is actually in the job-destruction business.If you wanted clear evidence of just how many real energy sector jobs are being blocked by President Obama, the EPA and other federal and state bureaucracies, consider the recent report Progress Denied: A Study on the Potential Economic Impact of Permitting Challenges Facing Energy Projects published by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. According to the study, Obamanomics (my term, not theirs) right now has its foot on the throat of prospective energy sector job growth, to the tune of millions of new, real jobs.
According to the detailed study, if allowed to flourish, an investment phase for planning and construction for new energy projects—that’s real hydrocarbon energy projects, not the pathetic renewable kind—including offshore drilling, would generate $577 billion in direct investment and generate a $1.1 trillion increase in U.S. GDP, including $352 in employment earnings. The report estimates that would create up to 2 million new energy sector jobs during each year of the construction phase.Next up, the operations phase would likely generate $99 billion in direct annual output, yielding a further $145 billion in GDP and $35 billion in employment earnings. Taken together, that would create an average of 791,200 jobs per year of operation. In total, assuming 20 years of new energy sector construction and operation if off-limits drilling et al was allowed, that would add approximately $3.4 trillion in GDP, including $1.4 trillion in employment earnings, and an additional one million+ more jobs per year.And what can be seen in macrocosm can also be seen in microcosm.On the eve of Earth Day 2010, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and U.S. VP Joe Biden announced, amid much fanfare, a new green job creating scheme via a $20 million federal grant to invest in weatherization. That’s insulating roofs, attic spaces etc. It was claimed the scheme would create around 2,000 jobs and retro-fit 2,000 homes in poorer neighborhoods. Over a year into the program just three homes have been retro-fitted and 14 jobs—mostly administrative—created. Biden’s triple win of boosting the economy, reducing consumer bills and lowering gas emissions turns out instead to be a triple whammy—for federal taxpayers, that is. The problem is that the Seattle experience of finding Green jobs come at a ludicrously high cost per job, much as it has wherever the dead hand of Obamanomics has utilized TARP funds to promote green jobs.But then, it isn’t just Obamanomics that sponsors the green subsidy-job loss nexus.

In early August the UK manufacturers’ association, the EEF, said that green taxes and climate change policies had reached a tipping point where they are hitting jobs and investment and economically crippling the recovery. Among the litany of green climate levies that are cited as biting by the EEF: fuel duties, air passenger levies, levies on waste, landfill, the carbon reduction commitment and the government’s move to increase tax on North Sea oil and gas.According to a separate hard-hitting report The Green Mirage published by the UK think-tank Civitas and written by the director of the Renewable Energy Foundation (REF), the government’s plans to boost renewable energy projects will actually destroy up to 30,000 British jobs. Describing the UK Government’s green policies as staggeringly far-fetched, the director of the REF warned that green subsidies would put people on the dole as well as lead to higher energy prices. The report went on to point out that the government’s ¬£5 billion subsidy for renewable electricity generators in the eight years to 2010 was the equivalent of paying every worker in the wind industry £230,000. In effect, every wind industry job was subsidized to the tune of £54,000 in 2010.And for what benefit? The report goes on to quote European Commission models which suggest the EU’s climate policies generally will have only slight benefits for GDP and employment by 2020, benefits that, for all the world-leading UK domestic investment in renewables, will not be felt by the UK at all.In June 2010, a spokesman for the European Metals Association, speaking to European Energy Review, warned that the EU’s inward-looking unilateral climate policy would put European producers of non-ferrous metals out of business stating: What we are seeing is a slow process of delayed or cancelled investments, and even factories closing. This could spell the end of aluminium and other non-ferrous metals in the EU. And all this at the very time that global demand for metals is increasing.The evidence for how green jobs literally ‘feed off’ real jobs—diverting resources from real into phoney jobs, has been well-documented. Not least in its disastrous effect on the Spanish economy; an economy currently approaching the same dire straits already tossing Greece, Portugal and Ireland around like corks. The fact is that simple economics reveals a clear nexus between regimes of green subsidies that create a green jobs mirage, and the mass disappearance of, or delay in creating, real jobs.
It was precisely this point that Chevron’s VP for Global Exploration, Bobby Ryan, was making on Fox News in mid-August as Big Oil, for once, came out swinging on Obama’s offshore drilling moratorium. Ryan pointed out that the energy sector already currently employs 9.2 million Americans. In an example of masterly understatement, given the figures we saw above, Ryan pointed out,It could employ a lot more. Showing a map of the off-limits continental shelf, Ryan made the case that 2.8 trillion barrels of oil equivalent awaits tapping off the U.S. coastline. Extraction of that alone, not to mention onshore shale gas, would require a whole lot of extra manpower.The green subsidy industry is not even close to having any impact on still rising global carbon emissions. It further hampers struggling national economies with no discernible benefit. And it threatens national electricity generation and thus future prosperity. It does, however, make bundles of cash for central government, some of which ends up recycled as yet more job-busting green subsidies.If political greens could, for once, put the best interests of their country first taking their ideological foot off the throat of potentially explosive real energy sector growth, the markets could yet be primed to strike an energy-led economic gusher.
