Scientists Spot Tsunami on the Sun Robert Roy Britt
Senior Science Writer,SPACE.com ,Fri Dec 8, 2:45 PM ET

A major flare on the Sun earlier this week generated what scientists are calling a solar tsunami. The tsunami-like shock wave, formally called a Moreton wave, rolled across the hot surface, destroying two visible filaments of cool gas on opposite sides of the visible face of the Sun.Astronomers using a prototype of a new solar telescope in New Mexico recorded the action. These large scale blast waves occur infrequently, however, are very powerful, said K. S. Balasubramaniam of the National Solar Observatory (NSO) in Sunspot, NM, They quickly propagate in a matter of minutes covering the whole Sun, sweeping away filamentary material.

It is unusual to see such an event from a ground-based observatory, Balasubramaniam said. And it was also unusual that it occurred near solar minimum, when the Sun is at its least active during an 11-year cycle. But solar activity can come at any time.
Flares like this one are spawned by sunspots, which are dark, cool regions that cap magnetic activity below. When the caps pop, colossal doses of superheated matter and radiation are unleashed.Sunspot 929 began kicking up flares Tuesday, when a major X-9 event was detected by a space-based observatory. When another flare erupted Wednesday, the NSO's Optical Solar Patrol Network (OSPAN) was watching.

A shock wave propagated like the splash from a rock thrown into a pond.

This was seen as a brightening from compressed and heated hydrogen gas. Astronomers enhanced the contrast of the images to bring out the detail, and they created an animation of the event.Later, the shock wave swept across two dark filaments widely seprated on the solar surface, and they disappeared for a few minutes. Scientists are unsure whether the filaments were blown off or were compressed so they were temporarily invisible, according to an NSO statement.Forecasters say there is a 40 percent chance of more major flares through this weekend.

Skywatchers in Alaska, Canada and the very northernmost United States should be on the lookout for colorful Northern Lights generated by the space storminess.Original Story: Scientists Spot Tsunami on the Sun. Tropical storm heads toward Philippines Fri Dec 8, 6:13 AM ET

CEBU, Philippines (AFP) A tropical storm packing maximum winds of 95 kilometers (59 miles) an hour was barrelling toward the Philippines, which said it was the reason for cancelling summit meetings here next week.

At 4:00 pm (0800 GMT) Tropical Storm Utor was 350 kilometers (200 miles) east-southeast of the central island of Samar heading west towards Cebu, the resort island where the ASEAN and East Asia Summits were to take place. It will be the fourth tropical storm or typhoon in as many months to hit the Philippines, with previous storms causing widespread damage and leaving nearly 2,000 people dead or missing.Utor is expected to make landfall on Saturday on the island of Samar, roughly 200 kilometres away from Cebu.Joel Desusa, a forecaster with the Philippine weather bureau, said: Ninety-five kilometers may not sound very strong but it is enough to cause serious damage here in the Philippines. It can uproot trees and destroy huts.Desusa said the storm was expected to keep to its current path over Samar and northern Cebu towards the northern tip of the western island of Palawan. After then we expect it will intensify into a typhoon with winds in excess of 145 kilometers an hour as it heads into the South China Sea.The storm comes days after Typhoon Durian slammed into the country's Bicol region, leaving more than 1,300 dead or missing. It could have a big impact on the area, said Florentino Sison, operations chief of the civil defense agency.Anthony Golez, deputy director of the civil defense office, said those hit by typhoon Durian in Bicol may have to be moved to special holding areas for about 12 hours until the storm passes.Cedric Daep, head of the provincial disaster coordinating center, said the mayors of the affected towns were meeting to discuss when people would be evacuated and where they could be moved.Evacuations could begin on Saturday, he said, adding that as many as 20,000 families may be forced to seek shelter at the holding areas.Hundreds of houses are still covered with mud and most of the region still has no power, telephone or water services. The postponement of the summits was announced one day after Britain, the United States, Australia and other governments warned of a possible imminent terror attack on Cebu.Officials insisted that the postponement was due to the weather.

New floods at Kenyan refugee camps as US military airdrops begin by Matthew Lee Fri Dec 8, 2:18 PM ET

NAIROBI (AFP) - Fresh rains have caused new flooding in northeast Kenya, compounding the misery of flood-hit Somali refugees at United Nations camps, the UN has said, as the US military began aid air drops. The UN refugee agency UNHCR said Friday its
Dadaab complex of three camps, where more than 100,000 of 160,000 residents have been left without shelter due to the floods, had been struck again with downpours after a brief respite. After a break of some five days, heavy showers have started falling again in Dadaab, causing new flooding, it said in a statement released in Nairobi. Some parts of the camps are inaccessible and the fresh rains have led to the further deterioration of roads within the camps, it said.At least three Somali refugees at Dadaab, about 470 kilometers (290 miles) northeast of Nairobi, have died in the floods that began in late October, crippling large swathes of Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia.

A total of 251 people have been killed in the three countries by the floods, man-eating crocodiles and waterborne diseases, while hundreds of thousands have been displaced and more than a million affected, officials say.The World Health Organization said Friday it was deeply concerned by the health situation in the Horn of Africa where up to 1.8 million people are at risk of diseases such as cholera, measles, malaria, as well as malnutrition. The floods are expected to continue until at least the end of December if not into early next year, said Dr David Okello, the WHO representative in Kenya. We are already experiencing a serious situation where people are dying from diseases related to the water and sanitation situation, he said in a statement. Malaria will become a very serious problem in the weeks to come. The three countries now hit by floods were at the epicenter of a recent scorching drought from which they were just recovering when the rains began that exacerbated the damage from the floods.

Due to previous droughts, people in the region have experienced severe food shortages and high rates of malnutrition, WHO said. People's immunity is weakened, making them more vulnerable to diseases.Relief agencies have made urgent appeals for aid, including the UNHCR, which said the US military had begun airdropping assistance to the Dadaab refugees at its request on Friday, 24 hours earlier than expected.UN and US officials confirmed that a US Air Force C-130 transport plane from the Djibouti-based Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa had started the first of about 15 planned flights over Dadaab to deliver 240 tonnes of aid.

The supplies include plastic sheets, blankets and mosquito nets and the emergency airdrops are to continue until Wednesday, UNHCR said.Dadaab has been cut off for weeks since the unusually heavy seasonal rains washed away major parts of the only road connecting the remote area near the Somali border with Nairobi, it said.Air drops are necessary since the small Dadaab airstrip cannot take the weight of a heavy plane like a C-130, it said.Standing water at the camps has also raised fears of water-borne diseases and respiratory infections, further compounding the misery of the refugees, many of whom fled drought and conflict in Somalia.

Towns on alert as fires rage in state's east
Dan Oakes,December 8, 2006

THE army and a group of New Zealand firefighters have joined the battle as Victoria's monster bushfires increase in size and ferocity.

As Premier Steve Bracks warned that the blazes were comparable to the state's worst bushfire disaster, 1939's Black Friday, dozens of towns in the north-east and east from Myrtleford to Sale were on standby.Almost 50 fires have so far razed 100,000 hectares.Late yesterday, almost 2000 firefighters, with nearly 400 vehicles and 45 aircraft, were tackling fires that are expected to strengthen over the weekend due to high temperatures and a northerly change. This (fire) is following a similar pattern to Black Friday in 1939 and this is a similar area and, of course, this area has burnt out before said Mr Bracks. That was an extensive fire which raged right through the alpine areas in Victoria and eventually, after months, burnt out at the coastline.Authorities believe the fires could combine into a 600,000hectare super fire on Saturday.

Department of Sustainability and Environment spokesman Stuart Ord said last night: The fires will get bigger and the fires will merge, so we're not looking forward to the weekend.Gippsland communities are making preparations as a number of massive blazes hover to their north. The biggest of these is the 30,000-hectare Mount Darling-Mount Cynthia fire, part of the Bairnsdale group. The Heyfield group of fires, further to the west, covers 16,400 hectares, but will also grow quickly as the conditions change. The northerly winds expected to arrive later today will then push the fires towards towns such as Maffra, with a population of 4200, and Bairnsdale (11,000), for the first time in half a century. The third of the southern groups is the 9000-hectare Jamieson group, of which the largest fire is around Mount Terrible. It continues to threaten small communities along the Jamieson-Woods Point Road.

Tonight's change will push the Mount Terrible fire towards Woods Point and the Thomson Dam catchment area, which firefighters are preparing furiously to defend.

Half of Woods Point's 30 residents had already evacuated as the fire front edged within 10 kilometres of the township, the owner of the Wood's Point General Store & Post Office, Bill Smithett, said last night. Those that are staying behind are likely to take refuge in an abandoned mine, which has been set up with a toilet, water and blankets.Mr Smithett plans to leave today. I've just had hip surgery and I'm simply not fit enough to stay and fight, he said.Geelong Grammar yesterday evacuated its Timbertop campus, near Mansfield, due to the threat of bushfires.Near Lake Eildon, a wall of smoke had grounded air firefighting operations.

The 13,000-hectare Wangaratta group of fires, which includes the Black Range and Rose River blazes, continues to threaten towns including Cheshunt, Edi Upper and a number of farms.Further east, the 18,000hectare Ovens group of fires has jumped control lines near Rose River, Abbeyard, Catherine River and Dandongadale.Ian Millman, of the New Zealand Rural Fire Authority, said 45 firefighters arrived in Melbourne last night and would be deployed to the Jamieson region. While the NZ reinforcements are comfortable working in remote high country, he conceded the size of the Victorian blazes was daunting. An army crew was dispatched from the Puckapunyal military base to help fight the fires and Mr Bracks has asked the Prime Minister for additional tractors and bulldozers and for defence personnel to remain on standby.Emergency Services Commissioner Bruce Esplin said the speed of the fires' spread had made the firefighters' task difficult but not impossible. With CAMERON HOUSTON, ANDREA PETRIE, SARAH SMILES, AAP,http://geobay.com/f7d456

Stop Iran's nuclear bomb - protect Israel DEC 07,06

An Iran with nuclear weapons is our worst nightmare – for Israel, and for Western civilization. Iran must be stopped before it is too late. Your generous donation allows The Israel Project to educate the media about issues of importance to Israel. Please give now.

Dear Supporter of Israel,

I am writing with an urgent appeal for financial support.

Please read on. This is too important to ignore. We need whatever assistance you can provide today so we can achieve what’s become our highest priority to educate American and European audiences about the frightening dangers of a radical regime in Iran that is aggressively pursuing nuclear weapons. Why must we do this? Because we need the United States and its European allies to adopt smart policies to confront this danger. The people of America and Europe must understand the danger if they are going to support those policies. And we don’t have a moment to waste. At The Israel Project, we work every day to educate the media about issues of importance to Israel. Today, nothing is more important than the prospect of an Iran with nuclear weapons.http://www.theisraelproject.org/donate

How big is this menace? An Iran with nuclear weapons is our worst nightmare for Israel, and for Western civilization.

Iran is already the world’s most active state sponsor of terrorism, providing $100 million a year to Hezbollah and a total of $200 million a year for terrorist groups in general. When the United States and Europe froze funding to the Palestinian Authority after Hamas victory in Parliamentary elections, Iran came through with a pledge of $50 million. Iran is headed by a President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who repeatedly denies the Holocaust and threatens to wipe Israel off the map. He has also set his sights on the United States, declaring that a world without America is attainable and surely can be achieved. Subscribing to a radical strain of Islam, Ahmadinejad believes it’s his religious destiny to provoke a violent confrontation with the West to help bring about the return of the so-called Twelfth Imam (or Mahdi in the well), a messianic figure who will, in turn, announce the end of the world. Does he really believe it? Well, as President, Ahmadinejad gave about $20 million to the mosque from which the Mahdi supposedly will emerge, and he proposes to shape all of his economic, cultural, and political policies around the Mahdi’s return. Previously, as Tehran’s mayor, he ordered an urban reconstruction project so the city would be more presentable to the Mahdi when he arrived.

All of that is frightening enough. But the radical regime over which Ahmadinejad presides is seeking the one tool that could turn his apocalyptic vision in reality – nuclear weapons. The United States and its European allies have tried to convince Iran to drop its nuclear program – a program Iran kept secret for 18 years until a dissident group brought it to light in 2002. Great Britain, France, and Germany negotiated with Iran for three years, offering a wide variety of incentives. The West even offered fuel for a peaceful, civilian nuclear program. But Ahmadinejad scoffed, making clear that Iran will push ahead – no matter what.No one knows for sure when Iran will have the technology and the know-how to develop nuclear weapons, but intelligence sources estimate that it could be only a year away. One thing’s for sure – each day, the Islamic Republic is making progress toward that goal. What would an Iran with nuclear weapons mean for Israel? It’s almost too frightening to contemplate. Any or all of the following could occur:

A nuclear attack, enabling Iran to fulfill the goal of destroying Israel. Every Iranian leader has held that goal since the 1979 revolution brought Ayatollah Khomeini to power.

Iranian leaders have even boasted that a nuclear exchange with Israel would be well worth the cost – it would only damage Iran, but it would surely destroy the Jewish State. The sharing of nuclear weapons with Hezbollah, Hamas, or other terrorist clients that also have vowed to destroy Israel. The ability to threaten Israel with a nuclear attack when Israel seeks merely to defend itself, such as when Hezbollah and Hamas recently kidnapped Israeli soldiers in cross-border raids. The ability to blackmail Europe, which Iran already can reach with missiles, to put unrelenting pressure on Israel not to defend itself. The ability to blackmail America and the West to pressure Israel into submission, simply by threatening to disrupt oil deliveries from the Middle East to the West. We need your support. And we need it now! Please give whatever you can at http://www.theisraelproject.org/donate.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Laszlo Mizrahi

Saint Paul's tomb found, Vatican sez DEC 08,06

ROME - Vatican archaeologists have unearthed a sarcophagus believed to contain the remains of the Apostle Paul that had been buried beneath Rome's second largest basilica. The sarcophagus, which dates back to at least A.D. 390, has been the subject of an extended excavation that began in 2002 and was completed last month, the project's head said this week. Our objective was to bring the remains of the tomb back to light for devotional reasons, so that it could be venerated and be visible, said Giorgio Filippi, the Vatican archaeologist who headed the project at St. Paul Outside the Walls basilica. Two ancient churches that once stood at the site of the current basilica were successively built over the spot where tradition said the saint had been buried.Originally called Saul, St. Paul was born in Tarsus in what is now Turkey and converted to Christianity on the road to Damascus.According to Christian tradition, he was beheaded in Rome around the year A.D. 67.News Wire Services

American Jewish leaders and a top executive of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) say their relations have taken a significant turn for the better after a crisis over the Protestant group's policy toward Israel. In a joint statement Monday, leaders of the Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist branches of Judaism, along with the Rev. Clifton Kirkpatrick, the Presbyterian stated clerk, pledged to work jointly toward Mideast peace despite any differences.

Together, we affirm that peace for Israel and the Palestinians should be built on the foundations of security, justice and the establishment of two viable states, the leaders said, following a Nov. 29 meeting in Louisville, Ky.Our specific approaches to peace differ, but we believe that we can, and must, be strong advocates together and together with other Christian and Muslim colleagues for a renewed peace process, they said. The 2004 Presbyterian national assembly had vexed some grass roots Presbyterians and Jewish groups by authorizing phased selective divestment in multinational corporations operating in Israel because of its policies toward Palestinians.

This past summer, the assembly changed course, voting to soften its policy. The new policy says that church assets should be invested in only peaceful pursuits in Israel and the Palestinian territories. The Jewish community was represented at the meeting by Rabbi Jerome Epstein, executive vice president of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism; Carl Sheingold, executive vice president of the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation; and Rabbi Eric Yoffie, president of the Union for Reform Judaism. The religious leaders also promised to work together on other public policy issues, including raising the minimum wage, helping immigrants and protecting human rights in Sudan.

Norwegian state church leadership favors cutting bond between state and Lutheran church DEC 08,06

OSLO, Norway (AP) - The governing body of the state Church of Norway has voted for the separation of church and state as a step toward ending 469 years of Lutheranism as the Nordic nation's official religion, the church said Wednesday. In April, the Norwegian government opened a series of hearings on the state church system, seeking input from more than 2,500 congregations, cities and groups on the proposal by Dec. 1.The general synod, comprised of 11 bishops and 11 diocese councils, voted 63-19 at an annual meeting during the weekend to amend the constitution to drop Lutheranism as the state religion. The church said new legislation would be needed to transfer powers - including the authority to appoint clergy - from the government to the synod.

The synod's decision is historic, said Jens Petter Johnsen, director of the Church of Norway national council. What matters is the relation between church and people, not between church and state.Even if a majority of other groups and congregations also support the change, it could not be done before 2013 because two consecutive parliaments must each approve constitutional amendments.

The government is expected to deliver its state church proposals to parliament in late 2008.Lutheranism became Norway's official religion in 1537 by royal decree.Denmark has a similar Lutheran state church, while Sweden ended its state church system on Jan. 1, 2000.

UN to Aid Palestinian Authority, Congress Bans Talks with Hamas
By Hana Levi Julian (INN) DEC 08,06

Quartet-member UN is making an about-face, despite the avowed freeze on funds to the Hamas-led PA until the terror group recognizes Israel.

Meanwhile, Congress bans talks and aid with Hamas. On Thursday, the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) kicked off a campaign to raise $450 million for the terrorist-led government so it could meet its obligations to its population. The U.N. calls it the third-largest fundraising campaign in the world. The Quartet of Nations, which includes the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and Russia, demanded in January that Hamas formally acknowledge the State of Israel’s right to exist, renounce violence, and uphold peace agreements with Israel signed by the previous PA administration. PA prime minister Ismail Haniye of Hamas reiterated again yesterday that Hamas would never recognize Israel.

Just this past Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill banning the executive branch from holding talks with Hamas, and cutting off aid (except for humanitarian) to Hamas. The ban is in force until the terror group acknowledges Israel’s right to exist, renounces terrorism and agrees to abide by agreements with Israel. The Senate passed the bill this past June, and it now awaits President Bush's signature. The terrorist-led PA government has lost billions of dollars as a result of the freeze on international funds. OCHA head David Shearer announced at a news conference that the new funding will be earmarked for cash assistance, food, the PA health and education systems, and a project to create jobs. PA sources said the European Union, another member of the Quartet, sent a payment of 185 euros to each of some 73,000 households to alleviate some of the financial problems they face.

The PA has not paid its 160,000 government workers in months, despite pledges of millions of dollars in funding from Qatar and other member nations of the Arab League.U.N. officials now claim that unemployment in the PA stands at 29%, with 65% of PA residents living at or below the poverty line almost half of whom they say do not have reliable access to food. The PA health care system is reportedly running out of medicine and is on the verge of collapse, said Shearer.Israel has contributed humanitarian aid to PA families in a number of different ways.

The Save a Child’s Heart organization, albeit a private project, has helped more than 100 PA children this year alone, with life-saving heart surgery performed by top doctors at Wolfson Hospital in Holon. PA doctors are being trained through the program in pediatric cardiac surgery as well. A Jordanian paper reported that about 1,000 PA residents receive medical treatment each month in Israel.Earlier in the year, Israel said it would back a Quartet decision to bypass Hamas and transfer money directly to individuals. It is known that the Quartet wants to promote humanitarian aid, said Israel’s former ambassador to the U.S., Danny Ayalon. But paying the salaries of civil servants isn’t the way.

Israel agreed in May to the Quartet process of managing the humanitarian funds, but foreign diplomats said at the time that the same mechanism might later be used to pay the salaries of professionals employed by the PA government. Despite border crossing closings in and out of Gaza due to constant terror warnings, Israel has allowed shipments of food, medicine and other humanitarian items to pass through.According to the United Nations, however, Israel needs to do more. U.N. officials criticized the border closures, saying the security restrictions limit PA Arabs’ access to health service centers, schools, markets and places of employment. While humanitarian aid can slow the deterioration, said Shearer, what is really needed is a political settlement.

House OKs oil, gas drilling in Gulf area By H. JOSEF HEBERT, Associated Press Writer DEC 08,06

WASHINGTON - The House approved oil and gas drilling Friday in a vast area of the Gulf of Mexico south of Florida's Panhandle and agreed to steer hundreds of millions of dollars in royalty payments to Gulf states to restore coastal wetlands and repair hurricane damage. The drilling provision was attached to a package of popular tax breaks that were approved by vote of 367-45 as lawmakers scrambled to adjourn and end of the 109th Congress. The tax legislation, including the drilling provision, was expected to be combined with a trade bill and then sent to the Senate in hopes of prompt approval — assuming last-minute roadblocks can be avoided in the Senate. It wasn't clear late Friday when the Senate might take up the legislation. The House bill opens to energy companies 8.3 million acres in the east-central Gulf of Mexico that is currently off-limits to drilling. The Interior Department is required to issue its first leases for the area within a year and tap what is believed to be 1.3 billion barrels of oil and 6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

The country uses about 21 million barrels of oil a day. The gas believed in the area would be enough to heat 6 million homes for 15 years. It was the revenue sharing provision that prompted the sharpest debate Friday. It calls on the Interior Department to provide Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Alabama with 37.5 percent of future royalties collected from Gulf oil production. Louisiana would get about half. The states' share is anticipated to be several hundred million a year initially, and grow into the billions of dollars a year after 2017 because of increased production and expansion of the royalty sharing to all Gulf production.Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., called it a raid on the federal Treasury that could amount to as much as $170 billion over the next 50 years.Rep. Lois Capps (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif., said she could not understand funneling billions of dollars in royalties from oil and gas taken from federal waters to four states when this country has record deficits as far as the eye can see.The Gulf Coast states, which now get less than 2 percent of all the royalties collected from offshore production, have argued that new revenue sharing is long overdue.

For years the Louisiana delegation has been asking for help and it's been like the tree falling in the woods, unheard, complained Rep. Charlie Melancon, D-La.An attempt by Markey to sidetrack the tax measure by adding an amendment that would have upended the delicate agreement with the Senate failed 207-205.The royalty recovery effort has broad support in both the House and Senate. But Rep. Bill Thomas, chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, said any change in the bill could undo the informal agreement reached with the Senate and kill any chance of getting the legislation through because of the time constraints before adjournment. Under Senate rules, a single senator can force considerable delay once a bill comes over from the House. The new drilling area was crafted to gain support of Florida's lawmakers, with its eastern edge more than 200 miles from state beaches.

This protects Florida, said Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla.The drilling provision is identical to a bill passed by the Senate earlier this year. House GOP leaders had sought much broader offshore energy development that would have lifted drilling bans that have been in place as long as 25 years across 85 percent of the U.S. coastline, essentially everywhere except for the western Gulf of Mexico and off Alaska.Senate leaders said the House measure couldn't pass the Senate. So, after suffering losses in last month's election, House GOP leaders accepted the Senate-passed bill that was limited to the Gulf region. The drilling measure is S 3711.

Livni begins American trip amid fears that US policy shift will cut Israel down to size By Agence France Presse (AFP) ,Saturday, December 09, 2006

JERUSALEM: Israel's foreign minister arrived in the United States Friday amid worries that the Jewish state's main ally could shift course after a report urged Washington to redouble Mideast peacemaking efforts. Tzipi Livni will meet with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and other officials during her visit, which will focus on the repercussions of a report released Wednesday by the Iraq Study Group, her office said. This trip will be an occasion to review with her counterparts the report and to discuss its meaning, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said. That report said progress toward Arab-Israeli peace was key to saving Iraq.

It also called for direct US talks with two of Israel's main foes, Syria and Iran.A day after receiving the top-level commission's report, the US and Britain signalled the start of a renewed diplomatic push in the region.

President George W. Bush promised concerted efforts to advance the cause of peace and said British Premier Tony Blair would soon travel to the region for talks with Israel and the Palestinians.Blair's visit was to set the stage for Rice, in early 2007, to make her eighth trip in two years to Israel and the Palestinian Territories, Rice's spokesman said. The renewed focus on Mideast peacemaking and growing domestic pressure on US leaders to end the imbroglio in Iraq has Israelis worrying about a possible policy shift by Bush, who for six years has largely ignored the intricacies of Mideast peacemaking. http://www.dailystar.com.lb

The fact that he has decided to support Blair's visit to the region and present this trip as a joint mission of Britain and the US shows Bush intends to at least try to change his policy, Israel's Yediot Ahronot daily wrote Friday. The newspaper went on to slam the Iraq report, accusing its chief authors James Baker and Lee Hamilton of ignoring Israel while preparing the report. If the truth be told, they barely paid any attention to us, the newspaper lamented. For 14 years, Israel enjoyed warm and pampering attention, under Clinton and Bush. Now, in light of the catastrophe in Iraq, Baker and Hamilton wish to restore us to our proper proportions.Israeli Premier Ehud Olmert has also expressed dissatisfaction with the report's recommendations. He said Thursday that US problems in Iraq are entirely independent of the controversy between us and the Palestinians. In statements sure to allay Israeli concerns, Bush has rebuffed some of the report's recommendations and maintained his insistence that Damascus and Tehran renounce support for extremists and pledge support for Iraq's fledgling government and that Iran freeze sensitive nuclear work before direct talks. - AFP

EU Pushes for Cross-Border Defense,Thursday December 7, 1:07 pm ET
By Paul Ames, Associated Press Writer ,Verheugen: EU Push for Cross-Border Defense Market a First Step Toward Fairer Procurement

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) The European Commission launched a fresh drive Thursday to open up the EU's 30 billion euros ($40 billion) a year defense equipment market to increased cross-border competition by breaking down protection for national industries. This is a first step towards more open and fair markets for defense procurement, EU Enterprise Commissioner Guenter Verheugen said. In a statement, he said creating an open EU market for defense equipment was needed to keep the European defense industry competitive.Governments are allowed to protect their national defense industries because military contracts are largely excluded from EU legislation. The EU's executive branch set out guidelines Thursday to close loopholes in the law.Officials said it would make clear that the exemption should only be applied when national security is involved -- and not be used to cover products like uniforms, boots, stationary and tents, or even light arms and high-tech communications components which could have both military and civilian use.

The derogation has to be applied in a restricted way, said Ugo Bassi, an expert in the EU's internal market department. The guidelines are part of a wider push to open defense markets that would likely be included in a draft law to be presented late next year.EU officials claim the current fragmentation of the European market creates duplication and inefficiency, pushing up prices for Europe's armed forces and hampering efforts to develop an EU-wide defense industry capable of taking on international competitors.

But although governments agree in principle on the need to open markets, many have been reluctant to expose domestic defense contractors to competition within the 25-nation bloc.I have not the slightest idea how the member states will respond, Verheugen acknowledged over dinner with journalists and defense experts late Wednesday. It is so clearly based on European common sense, that I hope we will get the support.Among the barriers Verheugen wants to remove are stipulations that exporters must obtain security licenses to export defense-related goods to other EU nations, despite the close military cooperation among EU governments.

He said around 10,000 such requests for licenses are filed every year, and only about a dozen are refused. This is simply an additional cost factor that makes no sense, he complained.New rules would promote joint research into new defense technologies, ensuring more effective use of the European defense spending. We do spend a lot of money on defense and security, but we do not get the value we should, he acknowledged.Verheugen insisted governments' vital security interests would still be protected. No member state will have to abandon its sovereign rights, he said.In June, 22 of the 25 EU nations signed up to a voluntary code of conduct designed to open up defense contracts across the bloc. Bassi said that code of conduct was valid for weapons systems and other items that are clearly of a sensitive military nature, but binding legislation should be considered for other types of military equipment.EU nations spend around 170 billion euros ($226 billion) a year on defense, which includes 30 billion euros ($40 billion) for the acquisition of new equipment.

Barroso: Strong Euro Favors Europeans
Friday December 8, 7:42 am ET
EU's Barroso Says Strong Euro Favors European Consumers by Helping Control Inflation

JOUY-EN-JOSAS, France (AP) A strong euro is good for consumers in Europe because it helps control inflation, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said Friday. It's thanks to inflation that we have bearable energy prices and historically
low interest rates which are needed for growth, Barroso said in a speech to students at a business school outside Paris. He added that a high euro also served to lower energy bills for European consumers. The sharp rise in the euro, which now trades at around US$1.32, has raised unease among several French politicians, including French President Jacques Chirac, Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin and Segolene Royal, the opposition Socialists candidate for next year's presidential elections. The politicians have voiced concern that a strong euro will have a negative impact on the country's economic growth and publicly appealed to the European Central Bank to consider the euro's impact when making decisions on its monetary policy.Barroso said the euro is referred to as a problem linked to exports but it is generally good for consumers to have a strong euro.

Forecaster predicts busy 2007 U.S. hurricane season Thu Dec 7, 12:10 PM ET

LONDON (Reuters) The United States, which has emerged from this year's hurricane season largely unscathed, should brace itself for a potentially devastating hurricane season in 2007, a leading windstorm forecaster warned. A long-range forecast for next year issued by Tropical Storm Risk, a London-based forecaster, on Thursday predicted an above-normal Atlantic hurricane season with a strong probability that more hurricanes will slam into the United States than usual, based on average figures for the period 1950 to 2006.It said that 16 tropical storms were likely to occur in the Atlantic basin, nine of which would be hurricanes and four likely to be so-called intense hurricanes.Five tropical storms are likely to hit America, of which two will be hurricanes, TSR said.

It anticipated a combination of conditions that would indicate a higher-than-average hurricane season. In 2007 the trade winds, which blow westwards from the tropical Atlantic and Caribbean Sea, will be weaker than normal, while the sea temperatures between west Africa and the Caribbean, where many hurricanes form, will be warmer than normal, TSR said. For those who may be inclined to disregard such ominous warnings following this year's widely inaccurate predictions of another string of major storms similar to those that ravaged the U.S. coast in 2004 and 2005, TSR said an unusual mix of conditions led to fewer windstorms than were predicted. The below-average 2006 hurricane season was due to the presence of considerable African dry air and Saharan dust during August and September, which inhibited thunderstorm occurrence and therefore tropical storm development, and to the unexpected onset of El Nino conditions from mid-September, TSR said. There is no precedent for these factors together having been so influential before, it added.

Severe tornado hits London, 6 injured By Tahani Karrar
Thu Dec 7, 11:57 AM ET

LONDON (Reuters) A severe tornado ripped roofs off homes and tore down walls in a residential area of northwest London on Thursday, injuring six people.Television footage showed a trail of destruction in Kensal Rise, with trees uprooted and cars damaged by falling debris. Tornadoes in Britain are normally weak and rarely cause damage.Local resident Daniel Bidgood was in his house when the tornado, which he said was about 20 meters (yards) across, smashed his windows. It was very large and certainly very powerful, he told BBC television. You could see it ripping up heavy chunks of mortar and smashing it into cars. One man in his 50's was taken to hospital with head injuries. Five other adults were treated for shock and minor injuries after the tornado struck at around 1100 GMT.Around 100 houses were damaged, a Fire Brigade spokesman said, so I would imagine several hundred people may be displaced. Some of those evacuated were being housed in local churches.More than 20 fire engines were sent to the scene and the area was cordoned off.

SEVERE

The London tornado was rated at T4 on a scale of 0 to 10. This means winds were moving at between 115 and 136 mph (185-219 kph), rating the tornado as severe, said a spokesman for the Meteorological Office.Britain experiences between 30 and 40 tornadoes in an average year, he said, but they rarely hit built-up areas. In July 2005, a tornado in Birmingham, central England, damaged dozens of homes. The cost in London could run into millions of pounds. Houses in the area cost an average 550,000 pounds ($1.08 million), a local estate agent said. The Association of British Insurers said most home insurance policies would cover the costs.

You're not likely to find the word tornado in a UK insurance policy, a spokesman said. But it would be covered under storm damage.Tornadoes are a vortex of swirling air caused by a build-up of heavy thunder clouds. The Met Office spokesman said it was impossible to tell if global warming had a role to play in the London tornado. The Met Office issued severe weather warnings for southern England, with heavy rains and winds gusting up to 70 miles per hour, after the warmest autumn in the last 347 years.(Additional reporting by Jeremy Lovell, Tim Castle and Jon Hemming)

Nearly 100 Vietnamese dead or missing in typhoon Thu Dec 7, 10:14 AM ET

HANOI (Reuters) Nearly 100 people were killed or are missing after a typhoon hit the southern coast of Vietnam this week, damaging hundreds of thousands of flimsy homes, a government report said on Thursday.

The national flood and storm control center said 67 people were confirmed dead and 31 were missing in the aftermath of Typhoon Durian, which killed hundreds in the Philippines after hitting the archipelago last Thursday.Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, who toured damaged areas of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on Wednesday, postponed trips to Singapore and Malaysia, a government spokesman said. He said Dung would still attend a weekend summit of 10 ASEAN members plus India, Australia and New Zealand in the Philippines.

Durian was Vietnam's ninth storm of the year and it damaged or destroyed more than 212,000 homes and sank 808 fishing vessels, Thursday's government report said.Every year, hundreds or even thousands of people are killed in tropical storms and typhoons that batter flimsy dwellings and fishing boats or cause flooding and mudslides in the mostly rural Southeast Asian country of 84 million people. In May, hundreds of Vietnamese fishermen were lost in a typhoon named Chanchu. In October, another typhoon, Xangsane, killed at least 70 and destroyed or submerged hundreds of thousands of homes when it struck the central coastal city of Danang, despite early warnings and preparations.

El Nino forecast to peak in winter and fade by spring Thu Dec 7, 9:15 AM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) El Nino, a weather anomaly which typically wreaks havoc but was a key factor for a mild 2006 hurricane season, will peak this winter and gradually vanish by spring, a U.S. government agency predicted Thursday. The Climate Prediction Center, which tracks El Nino and is part of the U.S. National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, said the weather pattern will peak during the northern hemisphere winter followed by weakening during March to May 2007.

El Nino is an abnormal warming of waters in the equatorial Pacific Ocean that disrupts weather patterns from the Pacific all the way to Africa. It normally causes drought in such countries as Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines while spawning rampant flooding in Latin American nations like Ecuador and Chile, the world's top producer of copper. This year's El Nino was widely credited with drastically curtailing the formation of hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean, giving a respite to the U.S. Gulf Coast and Central American countries hit hard during the record setting hurricane season of 2005.

There were only nine tropical storms and hurricanes this year, well down from the 28 named storms of 2005 including Katrina and Rita which flooded New Orleans and devastated the coasts of Louisiana and Mississippi.El Nino means little boy in Spanish, but the pattern was named after the Christ child after it was first noticed by Latin American anchovy fishermen in the 19th century, mostly because this anomaly would peak during Christmastime.

The Center said typical El Nino effects over North America during January to March 2007 would see warmer-than-average temperatures over western and central Canada, and over the northwestern and northern United States. There would also be wetter-than-average conditions over portions of the U.S. Gulf Coast and Florida, and drier-than-average conditions in the Ohio Valley and in portions of the Pacific Northwest, it projected. From December to March, the weather will be drier than normal over most of Malaysia, Indonesia, northern and eastern Australia, some of the U.S.-affiliated islands in the tropical North Pacific (and) northern South America and southeastern Africa, the Center forecast. And it will be wetter-than-average in equatorial East Africa, the central South American countries of Uruguay, northeastern Argentina, southeastern Paraguay and southern Brazil, as well as along the coasts of Ecuador and northern Peru, according to the Center's forecast. The last severe El Nino took place in 1997/98, killing more than 2,000 people and causing damage that topped $33 billion. The Center's monthly update is available on its Web site: http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/analysis monitoring/ensoa dvisory/index.html

Biting cold...but relief ahead J. Erdman, Sr. Meteorologist, The Weather Channel DEC 07,07

Midwest

Is the cold of the past week already making you long for warmer climates?Fortunately, relief is on the way this weekend. Persistent bands of lake-manufactured snow buried parts of Michigan and far northern Wisconsin. Twenty inches was estimated in Grand Junction, Mich. Up to 10 inches blanketed Thompson, Ohio. With the passage of a strong Arctic cold front, measurable snow was witnessed into northern Kentucky, including Louisville and Frankfort. Numerous lake-effect snow warnings continue for the snowbelts of Michigan, northern Indiana, and northeast Ohio tonight. Hardest hit tonight into early Friday appears to be the Lake Erie snowbelt northeast of Cleveland, where a persistent band or bands coming off both Lakes Huron and Erie may dump over 6" additional snowfall. The lake-effect machine should slow to a crawl as Friday wears on, as warmer air aloft begins its intrusion on the region. In the meantime, Thursday was another raw one over much of the Ohio Valley, Great Lakes and Upper Midwest. Wind chills as cold as -30 were measured in parts of North Dakota and Minnesota. Williston, N.D. bottomed out at -21 this morning.

Minneapolis/St. Paul dipped below zero for the first time since February. Mid-afternoon temperatures in the teens kept many still without power in Missouri and Illinois shivering. Lows tonight will plummet again into the single digits over areas still with snowpack from southeast Kansas to southeast Wisconsin. In fact, this should be Chicagoland's coldest night of the season, with mid-single digits at O'Hare and some outer suburbs dipping below zero.

The first signs of a warming trend may appear tonight, although it may not feel so in the Twin Cities. Southwest winds may keep the mercury above zero tonight. A major shift in the polar jet stream will give the beleaguered region a break from the cold. This polar jet will retreat into Canada, trapping the coldest air north of the border.

With high pressure migrating into the Southeast, Friday, warmer southwest winds will spread from the Plains states into the Great Lakes. Forties should return to Kansas City and Omaha. Thirties should feel much less cold in St. Louis. Fifties will spread up the High Plains. Twenties should feel a tad more tolerable in the Windy City. This weekend will bring even warmer news. Saturday, thirties will return to Cleveland and Chicago. Forties revisit St. Louis. Sunday, a weak weather system may keep some in the Missouri Valley and Great Lakes under clouds and perhaps light precipitation, holding temperatures in the 30s (Great Lakes) or 40s (Ohio & mid-Mississippi Valleys).

Northeast

Cold winds and heavy lake-manufactured snow will be the rule in the Northeast tonight through early Friday. Cold north to northwest winds behind an Arctic cold front have already churned out locally heavy snow in the snowbelts of Lake Erie. Eight inches of snow had blanketed Cassadaga, N.Y. by midday Thursday. Lake-effect snow warnings continue from northwest Pennsylvania to southwest New York, and also to the leeward side of Lake Ontario, including Syracuse. A particularly persistent band of snow generated by northwest winds off both Lakes Huron and Erie and aided by ascent over up hilly terrain, should dump storm totals of over 10" by Friday morning in northwest Pennsylvania and far southwest New York State. Accumulating snow should also extend from the Allagash of Maine to the mountains of West Virginia. Generally 1" to as much as 5" of snow is possible through Friday from northern New England to New York's Hudson Valley (not NYC metro). A secondary tongue of 6" or more is expected from the Lake Ontario's snowbelts to the mountains of southwest Pennsylvania, perhaps even the highest elevations of West Virginia. By late Friday, lake-effect should be on the wane, except for the Tug Hill Plateau. The rest of the Northeast will be shivering on Friday. With cold northwest winds reinforcing the intrusion of Arctic air, highs in the I-95 corridor will be in the low-mid 30s, at best. Wind chills in the teens or 20s will be the rule. Twenties, and a few teens, will feel more like January in the Northeast's interior. Fortunately, a fundamental shift in the polar jet stream will bring milder air into the region into next week. The warm-up begins Saturday, as westerly winds around southeast U.S. high pressure import warmer air. Forties should return to the Northeast Megalopolis Saturday, and fifties for highs could be the rule from New York City to the Nation's Capital next week. The next major frontal system doesn't look to impact the region until the middle of next week.

South

The coldest night of the season, for some in almost 2 years, is in store in parts of the South. An Arctic front will surge southward into the Gulf of Mexico overnight tonight. Lows Friday morning will be in the 20s as far south as New Orleans, Mobile, and Ocala, Fla. Dallas-Ft. Worth and Atlanta will shiver in the low 20s. Teens will plunge deep into Mississippi, Alabama, and north Georgia.

These readings will threaten daily record lows in Birmingham and Mobile, among other locations. Additionally, with high pressure over the Southern Plains tonight, strong north winds will persist through the night and early morning Friday over the Tennessee Valley, Carolinas, and the Gulf Coast.

Wind chills in the 20s are possible in central and even coastal Texas, including Houston and San Antonio. Twenties for wind chills will also feel raw in northern Florida. Low teens or even single-digit wind chills are possible in the Tennessee Valley early Friday. In fact, a wind chill advisory has been posted for the southern Appalachians, where readings from 5 to 10 below zero are possible. A couple inches of snow is possible, as well, in the Smokies tonight, before ending early Friday morning. Highs Friday will be stuck in the 40s from the coastal Carolinas to Deep South Texas. Fifties will be the warmest readings of the day in northern and central Florida, including Orlando and Tampa. Fortunately, warmer times are ahead. The sting of the cold dome of high pressure will mellow with time this weekend as the high slowly shifts onto the Southeast seaboard. Southerly winds around the west side of this high will slowly moderate temperatures in the Southern Plains. Highs Saturday should return to the 50s in much of the South. Sixties and a few seventies should reappear along the Gulf Coast and Deep South. The only fly in this ointment will be the southern branch of the jet stream, the subtropical jet, keeping skies cloudy in south Texas. Light rain is possible Friday in the Rio Grande Valley, with some snow or ice possible in the Big Bend region. Stubborn showers could persist in South Texas, including South Padre Island Saturday, possibly spreading up the Texas Coast Sunday.

West

A shift in the upper-level wind pattern will have implications for parts of the West this weekend and next week. Following a week of virtually dry weather, the door to frequent Pacific fronts will be opened again in the Pacific Northwest. The first of these fronts will arrive Friday afternoon, spreading rain down the coast from Washington's Olympic peninsula to central California, including the San Francisco Bay area.

Some light showers may spread as far south as Point Conception, however, most of the L.A. Basin should be simply cloudy and dry from this first system. This weak weather-maker will then spread light mountain snow into the northern Rockies and Wasatch. A second system should arrive Saturday night into Sunday, and may spread a few showers as far south as Los Angeles. Neither of these systems look particularly menacing, with widespread heavy rain and/or snow unlikely anywhere from Washington to California. A more typical, powerful storm may take aim on the Pacific Northwest Monday, and again the middle of next week.

Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, founder and head of The Temple Institute was arrested by police this morning (December 7) and taken into custody for investigation on the background of the outspoken stand the rabbi has taken against the government actions in regards to the disengagement of two summers ago, and those who actively participated in it. This outrageous abuse of Rabbi Ariel's basic right to express himself in accordance with his beliefs is no more than the fruit of relentless political harassment against all citizens of the State of Israel who speak forthrightly against government policies directed toward the uprooting of Jews in the land of Israel.

As of this writing, Rabbi Ariel is currently being questioned by police.

We encourage all our friends and supporters, and all to whom the future of the Jewish nation in the land of Israel is dear to their hearts, to express your outrage. Please send a fax of protest to Public Security Minister Avi Dichter: 972-(0)2-530-8039

Dear Friend of The Fellowship,

On January 28, 2007, The Fellowship's International Day of Prayer and Solidarity with Israel will again unite millions of Christians and churches around the world to pray for God's blessing on the people and land of Israel, in fulfillment of God's command in Psalm 122:6-9:

Pray for peace in Jerusalem. May all who love this city prosper.
O Jerusalem, may there be peace within your walls and prosperity in your palaces.
For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, May you have peace.
For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
I will seek what is best for you, O Jerusalem. (New Living Translation)

Clearly, Israel is greatly in need of our prayers and support. This year alone, we have seen a number of events that have threatened her stability and security, and could have the gravest implications for her future—among them the election of the terrorist Hamas government in the Palestinian territories, Hezbollah's kidnapping of Israeli soldiers and subsequent launching of a devastating war against Israel, and the continued pursuit of nuclear weapons by Iran, a country dedicated to destruction of the Jewish state.

Even today, Israel's enemies continue to threaten her people with terrorist violence and spread lies about her that are often taken as truth by the news media. If ever there is a time for us to stand up and take our positions as watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem, who will never be silent day or night (Isaiah 62:6), this is it.Today I hope you'll heed this call by joining millions of Christians around the world signing our Day of Prayer Covenant and committing to pray for Israel on Sunday, January 28, 2007. We have a special Day of Prayer Action Kit we would like to send you free of charge that will make it easy for you or your church to do so. I ask you to join us in prayer, trusting God's promise to bless those who bless the Jewish people. With your help, our 2007 Day of Prayer will bring together an even larger group of people to offer prayers to God on Israel's behalf—and Israel will again know that Christians are strong allies in her ongoing struggle for peace and security.

With prayers for shalom, peace,

Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein

LAND FOR PEACE (THE FUTURE 7 YEARS OF HELL ON EARTH)

JOEL 3:2
2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.

DANIEL 9:26-27
26 And after threescore and two weeks(62X7=434 YEARS+7X7=49 YEARS=TOTAL OF 69 WEEKS OR 483 YRS) shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary;(ROMAN LEADERS DESTROYED THE 2ND TEMPLE) and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.(THERE HAS TO BE 70 WEEKS OR 490 YRS TO FUFILL THE VISION AND PROPHECY OF DAN 9:24).(THE NEXT VERSE IS THAT 7 YR WEEK OR (70TH FINAL WEEK).

ISAIAH 28:14-19 (THIS IS THE 7 YR TREATY COVENANT OF DANIEL 9:27)
14 Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.
15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.
19 From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.

DANIEL 8:23-25
23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king (EU DICTATOR) of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences,(FROM THE OCCULT) shall stand up.
24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power:(SATANS POWER) and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.
25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes;(JESUS) but he shall be broken without hand.

DANIEL 11:36-40
36 And the king shall do according to his will;(EU PRESIDENT) and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.
37 Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers,(THIS EU DICTATOR IS A EUROPEAN JEW) nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.
38 But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces:(HES A MILITARY GINIUS) and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.
39 Thus shall he do in the most strong holds (CONTROL HEZBOLLAH,AL-QUAIDA MURDERERS ETC) with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many,(HIS ARMY LEADERS) and shall divide the land for gain.
40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south(EGYPT) push at him:(EU DICTATOR PROTECTING ISRAELS SECURITY) and the king of the north(RUSSIA) shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships;
and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

ISAIAH 26:21
21 For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.(WW3,1/2 earths population die).

ISAIAH 13:6-13 KJV
6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt:(FROM FRIGHT)
8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

ISAIAH 24:17-23 KJV
17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.
22 And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

Important Mideast declaration signed at Tampere EU conference
EU states, as well as Arabs and Israel approve text DEC 07,06,Erkki Tuomioja

The European Union and Mediterranean countries reached agreement in Tampere on Tuesday on a joint declaration on a number of issues, including the Middle East peace process. The statement confirms that the partners are committed to a just, comprehensive, and sustainable solution in the conflict between Israel and the Arabs. The text was accepted unanimously, although Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja said that lengthy discussion was needed first.

In addition to the EU countries, signatories included Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Syria, Jordan, and Egypt. Signing on behalf of the Palestinians was former cabinet minister Nabil Shaath, who is a close advisor of President Mahmoud Abbas. The declaration was approved at the end of the two-day Euro-Mediterranean Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (EUROMED).

The text on the Middle East was fairly general in its language. Foreign Minister Tuomioja said that it is not intended to substitute any other initiatives and actions that have been taken on behalf of peace. It nevertheless offers us important political framework for 35 states, Tuomioja noted at the end of the meeting on Tuesday. He praised the discussions held on the Middle East, which began at Monday evening’s working dinner, as very good and constructive, although they were also time-consuming. Israel and the Palestinians began a cease fire in Gaza on Sunday. In the statements issued in Tampere, the ministers called for revitalised efforts to promote the peace process in the whole Middle East. Both Arab League Secretary-General Amr Mussa and Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem of Israel’s arch-enemy Syria, expressed their support for recent developments. We hope that the cease fire will be achieved also for the West Bank, Moualem said. HS International Edition:

UN General Assembly: Israel must withdraw from East Jerusalem, Golan
Prophecy news watch Dec 06,06

The General Assembly approved six pro-Palestinian resolutions over United States and Israeli objections, culminating the annual United Nations debate aimed at showing the world body's solidarity with Palestinian demands for an independent homeland. At the end of three days of speeches, the 192-member world body reaffirmed the UN's responsibility regarding the Palestinian question and stressed the Palestinian peoples' right to self-determination and an independent state. In the key resolution on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine, the General Assembly welcomed the cease-fire in Gaza and urged both sides to maintain the truce which it said could pave the way for negotiations towards a solution to the conflict. The Palestinian UN Observer, Riyad Mansour, said the vote - 157 to 7 with 10 abstentions - showed massive support in the international community for moving forward on the peace process.

Advancing peace?

The only way to reverse all the ills that we are witnessing in the Middle East is to accept the fact that there can only be a negotiated solution to the question of Palestine and the Arab-Israeli conflict, Mansour told the assembly. It is unfortunate to say, at the least, that each time the Arabs have extended their hand, it was violently rejected by Israel. The resolutions are not legally binding - as
Security Council resolutions are - but they are a reflection of world opinion. Each of the six resolution received more than 100 yes votes. The United States, Israel, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, and Palau voted against all six resolutions. The only other resolution to top 150 yes votes declared any attempt to impose Israel's laws, jurisdiction and administration on Jerusalem illegal, and therefore null and void. It was approved by a vote of 157-6 with 10 abstentions. The other resolutions demanded that Israel withdraw from the Golan Heights and supported the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, the UN Secretariat's Division for Palestinian Rights, and the UN's special information program on the question of Palestine.

US opposition

US Diplomat Ned Siegel opposed the Golan Heights resolution, saying it prejudged the outcome of negotiations between Israel and Syria. He accused Syria of using the General Assembly to direct accusations at Israel even as it flaunts a number of Security Council resolutions ... With its refusal to treat Lebanon as a genuinely sovereign country. We would like to reiterate our alarm at indications that Syria is working with Hizbullah and other Lebanese allies to destabilize the democratically elected Government of Lebanon, Siegel said. Syria's UN Ambassador Bashar Ja'afari accused the US Of using its veto in the Security Council to protect its Israeli friends and prevent them from complying with UN Resolutions. After the vote in favor of the Golan Heights resoution - 107-6 with 60 abstentions - Ja'afari thanked members for their support for Syria's right to retrieve its land occupied by Israel in 1967. He appealed for a just peace and for the liberation of the Golan Heights. It should be noted that these resolutions are not binding since they were decided in the General Assembly.

Resolutions don't promote peace

The Foreign Ministry said in response to the resolutions: Unfortunately, for a number of decades, the UN General Assembly tends to automatically pass a series of one-sided, unbalanced, anti-Israel resolutions from year to year. These resolutions don't promote peace and don't contribute anything to the Israelis or the Palestinians. The resolutions damage the status of the UN and its capacity to be involved in the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Foreign Ministry said in response. Vice Premier Shimon Peres, who is visiting New York, met with incoming UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and discussed the situation in the Middle East with him. After the meeting, Peres said, The Muslims and the Palestinians in the UN are presenting a one-sided and distorted picture. If the situation continues, UN forces in the region will weaken. Peres gave the example of the commission of inquiry into the Israeli shelling of Beit Hanoun, saying that whoever wants to investigate needs to start with the Palestinian aggression, and not the Israeli response to it.

Storm of Protest Against Tamir Changes in Textbook Maps
By Hana Levi Julian (INN)

Education Minister Yuli Tamir's order to return the Green Line to maps of Israel in new textbooks was met with a firestorm of protest. Tamir, a former member of the Peace Now group, ordered her staff to ensure that textbook maps show the pre-1967 borders that separate Judea, Samaria and Gaza from the rest of Israel. How can we demand that the Arab world recognize our borders if we don’t recognize the June 1967 borders, she asked. The Education Minister claimed that any decision made on this issue is a political one, but also insisted that she had made the changes in the interest of improving Israeli education. We teach, for instance, about United Nations Resolution 242, but we don't show students the Green Line. We cannot deny that there used to be a border that is still being debated today, she said.Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said he spoke with Tamir about the order, but he stopped short of criticizing her decision. There is nothing wrong with marking the Green Line. But there is an obligation to emphasize that the government's position and public consensus rule out returning to 1967 lines, he said.

Two former Director-Generals of the Education Ministry, from two different political parties, each had harsh criticism for Tami, however -- Zevulun Orlev and Ronit Tirosh.Orlev, who is chairman of the National Union – National Religious Party, said the Education Minister was imposing her Peace Now ideology on the Ministry. Orlev, a former Director-General of the Education Ministry, called upon Prime Minister Olmert to put the brakes on the Peace Now policy in the Education Ministry blatantly dictated by Minister Tamir.Kadima Knesset member Tirosh criticized Tamir’s declaration as well. She has overstepped her authority, she said. The Education Minister is not permitted to interfere with the content of textbooks and should have consulted with the other members of the Knesset before making such changes, she said. The Likud faction charged Tamir with changing the national curriculum to fit her own political agenda, adding that she had ignored both the Jerusalem Law and the Golan Heights Law in order to make the changes. The faction also introduced a no-confidence motion over the proposal. Two former Education Ministers also weighed in with comments about the new plan.

Former Meretz Party head Yossi Sarid said, Israeli students must know that Israel's borders both in the north and the east are not final, and will be determined by negotiations. National Union Knesset member Rabbi Yitzchak Levy, who served as Education Minister from 1998 to1999 added his voice to the chorus of dissent, saying he did not approve of Tamir's stance on placing all of Judea and Samaria up for grabs in keeping with Arab and Palestinian Authority demands to turn the entire area into an independent Arab state.

Tamir is trying to force her political opinions upon the students of Israel, Levy said. Previous Education Ministers kept the Ministry free of political decisions of this nature. The most important political test, however, will ultimately appear in the budget, according to Professor Yoram Ben-Gal of Haifa University’s Geography and Environmental Studies Department. Ben-Gal told Haaretz on Tuesday that most textbooks are published by private firms -- who are not likely to want to donate the expensive change to the government.

3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech(MOSCOW) and Tubal:
4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws,(GOD FORCES THE MUSLIMS TO MARCH) and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:

8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.(RUSSIA-EGYPT AND MUSLIMS)
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.

PSALMS 83:3-7
3 They (ARABS,MUSLIMS) have taken crafty counsel against thy people,(ISRAEL) and consulted against thy hidden ones.

EZEKIEL 39:1-8

2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts,(RUSSIA) and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands,( ARABS) and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6 And I will send a fire on Magog,(NUCLEAR BOMB) and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
8 Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken.

JOEL 2:3,20,30-31
3 A fire(NUCLEAR BOMB) devoureth before them;(RUSSIA-ARABS) and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
20 But I will remove far off from you the northern army,(RUSSIA,MUSLIMS) and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.(SIBERIAN DESERT)
30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.(NUCLEAR BOMB)
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

Call for lifting borders separating Islamic states
Sunday, December 03, 2006 - IranMania.com

LONDON, December 3 (IranMania) Head of Iran's Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines, Alinaqi Khamoushi said that just as borders are lifted in Europe, the same move should be considered by Islamic states, IRNA reported.

He made the remark at the fourth conference and exhibition on the strategy of Iraqi market and its executive strategies in Kermanshah. Khamoushi noted that the people of Islamic states are a single Ummah and therefore no borders should separate them. Given the current shortages in Iraq, we should provide the Iraqi people with the facilities available in Iran. We are duty-bound to do our best to help our neighbor under the most critical conditions. We should act in such a way as to build up mutual confidence. We believe that to have healthy trade relations, neither side should export goods to the other country without issuing the required documents, he said. The official said that Iranians can participate in establishment of new factories in Iraq or help reconstruct the damaged industrial units.

There is no need for Iraqi partners to invest in such joint projects. Iran's government will make investment and once the projects become operational, in the long-run the due amount will be repaid through turnover. If this is materialized, a major part of Iraq's problems will be solved, he added. He noted that according to the plans made at Iran-Iraq Chamber of Commerce in Tehran, every Iranian border province will be active on Iraqi market. The fourth conference and exhibition on the strategy of Iraqi market and its executive strategies opened in the border city of Kermanshah today and will continue up to December 6.

Israel Unable to Rely on U.S. to Thwart Iranian Nukes
By Ezra HaLevi (INN) DEC 06,06

Incoming American Defense Secretary Robert Gates says the Iranian threat is clear and present but that the U.S. is not guaranteeing protection to Israel. Gates will replace Donald Rumsfeld. Asked at his U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee nomination hearing whether he believed that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons capability, he answered: Yes, sir, I do. He also answered in the affirmative that he believes Iran’s leadership to be lying.Gates said that there were more powerful forces in Iran than just its president and they are determined to achieve nuclear weapons, as a deterrent against nuclear countries surrounding them – Pakistan in the east, Russia in the north, Israel in the west and the United States in the Persian Gulf.He said he is not certain that Iran would attack the Jewish state, since the risks for them (Iran) are enormously high. He added, though, I don't think anybody can provide that assurance [to Israel that an attack won’t occur. Gates summed up his position saying he would not advise a U.S. attack on Iran except as an absolute last resort if critical U.S. interests are threatened.

Ahmadinejad Warns Europe

Meanwhile, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad threatened European nations Tuesday that Iran would consider any decision to join sanctions against Iran due to its nuclear project an act of hostility. The statement came as representatives from the United Nations Security Council’s permanent member nations met in Paris to discuss steps to be taken against Iran.

I'm telling you in plain language that from now on, if you try, whether in your propaganda or at international organizations, to take steps against the rights of the Iranian nation, the Iranian nation will consider it an act of hostility, Ahmadinejad said, addressing European nations during a speech in northern Iran. Our path to reach the nuclear summit is in the final phase, and no more than one more step is needed, he added. Iran possesses the nuclear fuel cycle completely and by God's will it will undertake necessary measures to produce nuclear fuel for all of its nuclear power stations.Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani told the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency Tuesday that Iran is intent on materializing all its nuclear Research and Development projects by the end of the Islamic year, which falls out on March 19.

Iran’s Other Project

Iran's Foreign Ministry is making preparations for a two-day conference that will take place next week and examine the evidence of there having been a Holocaust. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mohammadi said the December 10-11 conference will be attended by 67 foreign researchers from 30 countries.

The conference was the initiative of Ahmadinejad, who has called the genocide perpetrated by the Nazi regime during World War II exaggerated and a myth.Mohammadi said that the conference would be a truly scientific event to determine whether the Holocaust took place. If Iran is indeed convinced that the Holocaust took place,
the next question will be how many Jews were murdered and why the Palestinians need to suffer because of an event that took place in Europe 60 years ago, he added.

Israel and Iran Meeting – About Old Debts

Israeli and Iranian representatives have been meeting in secret in Switzerland, according to Army Radio. The meetings are with regard to an Israeli debt to Iran for oil purchased during the years prior to the 1979 Islamic revolution there. A smaller amount was owed to Israeli construction companies for projects undertaken in Iran. The two countries were diplomatically friendly from the 50s to the 70s, under the pro-West Shah of Iran.

Thursday December 07, 2006 EU says Iran free to sell oil in any currency
Brussels, Dec 6, IRNA ,EU-Iran-oil

A spokesperson for the European Commission declined Wednesday to comment on media reports that Iran has started replacing dollar with euro in majority of its crude oil exchanges in the last several months. I have no comment. This would be a free decision for a government or company to use a particular currency than its own for invoicing the products that it sells, said EU spokesperson for economic affairs Amelia Torres. She was replying to a question on the issue by a reporter during the daily Commission news conference in Brussels. It is not something we encourage or discourage. We leave it to the markets and the forces in the market, added Torres.

AP Europe Widens Trade Talks

European Union Proposes Bilateral Free Trade Talks; Seeks Improved Anti-Dumping Measures

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) European Union trade chief Peter Mandelson said Wednesday he wants to negotiate bilateral trade deals with emerging nations like India to offset the slow pace of world trade talks.

At the same time, he opened consultations to make EU trade defenses against unfairly priced imports from booming Asian economies and other trade-distorting practices much more effective. Both initiatives were meant to keep EU policy nimble while global trade negotiations remain in a quagmire with no breakthrough insight.Attempts to revive global trade talks are still stuck at the level of private discussions among a few governments. Mandelson did not expect progress until next year at the earliest, despite the EU's willingness the reinvigorate the talks. It takes two to tango, and ideally one or two more, he said. The Doha round of trade liberalization talks came to a halt in July over differences between members, especially the United States and the 25-nation EU, about how and by how much to cut farm subsidies and tariffs, as well as reducing barriers to the import of manufactured goods.

Now, Mandelson is seeking progress with individual nations.Mandelson proposed opening free trade talks with Central American and Andean trading blocs and negotiations for trade agreements with India, South Korea and the ASEAN nations. With the Asian nations, he clearly wants to cover ground still out of reach of world trade talks. The EU trade office said it wants agreements that go further and faster in promoting openness and integration and tackle issues which are not yet ready for multilateral discussion. With India, South Korea and the ASEAN bloc, Mandelson is targeting emerging nations with surging economies and high levels of protections against EU goods. His trade negotiation proposals still need to be approved by the 25 member states but Mandelson was optimistic talks could start early next year.To make progress with the talks with the Andean nations of South America, Mandelson warned that Ecuador had to end its challenge on banana exports to Europe.

Ecuador, the world's largest banana producer, filed a protest against the European Union's banana import rules system three weeks ago, arguing that it unfairly restricts its access to the European market. It is not possible to litigate and negotiate at the same time, he said.Mandelson also said it was necessary for the EU to review its antidumping practices since international trade had changed dramatically since the last review a decade ago.Even if trade defense measures like antidumping duties affect less than 0.5 percent of EU trade, it is instrumental in containing unfair trade.Effective action against dumping has helped safeguard tens of thousands of European workers and helps maintain the public's belief in free trade, he said.

EU makes new push for trade deals with Asia, Latin America by Leigh Thomas Wed Dec 6, 12:40 PM ET

BRUSSELS (AFP) The European Commission made a big push to launch free-trade agreements with Latin American and Asian nations in the absence of progress in WTO multilateral talks.Amid accusations of hypocrisy, Brussels also opened a broad review of the effectiveness of its measures to protect Europe against unfair trading, some of which have recently targeted the very countries with which the EU now wants free-trade agreements.

The European Commission sought backing from EU member states to start negotiations next year with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as with India and South Korea on free-trade agreements. The three key partners identified for new agreements combine large markets, rapid growth and high levels of protection against EU export interests, the commission said in a statement. It said the agreements should be far reaching but in particular target services and investment, two areas that have fallen by the wayside in WTO free-trade negotiations.

Brussels also sought mandates from member states to start negotiations on closer ties with Central American and Andean nations, which would be aimed in part at eventually setting up a free-trade area between the EU and the two regions.

With the 2001 launch of WTO trade liberalization negotiations in the Qatari capital Doha, the EU chose to focus on a multilateral approach to trade at the expense of efforts to strike bilateral deals. But since the Doha talks, held under the auspices of the World Trade Organization, ground to a halt in July in disputes over farm trade, Brussels has tried to give a new push to bilateral deals, a strategy already being pursued by the United States and Japan.Officially, concluding the Doha round remains the EU's main priority, but some of its main trade interests have been dropped from the negotiations, particularly the so-called Singapore issues of investment, competition policy, and public procurement. The EU is attempting a bilateral approach after its multilateral trade strategy failed in nearly all areas key to EU interests, NGO Friends of the Earth said in a statement.

The EU failed to introduce a multilateral investment agreement at the WTO, it failed to start negotiations on public procurement, it failed to substantially open up foreign services markets for EU companies and, recently, it even failed to reach an agreement in the Doha Development Agenda, it added.

While seeking to boost bilateral deals, the commission is also eager to make its so-called trade defence mechanism more effective, which EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson described as a balanced response to globalization.Effective action against dumping has helped safeguard tens of thousands of European workers and helps maintain the public's belief in free trade, the British commissioner told journalists.Trade defence is the flip-side of the coin of openness -- open to free trade, open to defending against unfair trade, he added. In its campaign against perceived unfair trade, the commission recently took WTO action against India for its duties on European wines and spirits and last year slapped anti-dumping duties on shoes made in ASEAN member Vietnam. However, pro-development pressure group Oxfam heaped criticism on the commission for seeking market access while trying improve policies designed to protect European businesses from foreign competition. It is astoundingly hypocritical for the EU to call on trade partners to pursue a strategy for market opening while at the same time announcing a range of measures to enhance Europe's ability to protect its own already heavily protected agricultural, manufacturing, and services markets, said the head Oxfam's EU office, Luis Morago.

Intercede and Partners Secure Key NATO Summit with Smart Card-based Identities DEC 06,06

Lutterworth, Leicestershire (PRWeb) December 6, 2006 Intercede are pleased to announce that Intercede's MyID system was used to manage the identities of 8,000 diplomats, conference delegation members, Latvian and NATO supporting units, security personnel and volunteers at the NATO Summit in Riga, 27-29 November, 2006. This solution was primed by Oberthur Card Systems and delivered to the Ministry of Defence of Latvia in partnership with Intercede and Fargo. Intercede provided a complete system to personalise, issue and verify Oberthur smart card-based identity cards at this major international event.

Each Oberthur smart card was colour-coded according to role and security clearance, printed with a photograph of the card holder, secured with holograms and other security printing features to prevent forgery, and the electronic chip was personalized to enable secure cardholder verification.A compelling aspect of the solution was the ability to both request batches of smart cards from Oberthur's centralized card production service and to also securely produce locally personalized cards on Fargo desktop printers. This enabled the bulk production of cards ordered in advance and an on-demand issuance capability for late registrations from the same system.

Key features of the system include:

* The MyID registration workstations were smart card protected to prevent the issuance of cards by unauthorized people
* Bulk data import of card requests into the MyID from other systems
* Immediate face-to-face issuance of emergency replacement cards
* Instant identity card verification at up to 20 NATO Summit buildings and checkpoints using MyID card validation stations. Each verification station was securely connected to the MyID verification server using secure channels over the public internet.

In a press conference held on 29 November 2006, NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, praised the Latvian Government for their flawless organization of the Riga Summit. Intercede is proud to be associated with this success. With 26 Heads of State in

attendance, conference security was of paramount concern. I am therefore delighted that the Latvian Government chose Intercede and our partners to provide a critical piece of the security infrastructure for this event, said Richard Parris, Chairman and Chief Executive, Intercede. Following our recently announced successes in the US Federal market, this demanding project further demonstrates that Intercede's MyID smart card and identity management system has the flexibility and scalability to meet the most critical government security requirements.

WORLD TERRORISM

GENESIS 6:11-13
11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

2 PETER 2:5
5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

2 PETER 3:7
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men

LEVITICUS 26:16
16 I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you( sudden) terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

GENESIS 16:11-12
11 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.

ISAIAH 33:1,18-19 Woe to thee that spoilest,(destroys) and thou wast not spoiled;(destroyed) and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! when thou shalt cease to spoil,(destroy) thou shalt be spoiled;(destroyed) and when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.
18 Thine heart shall meditate terror. Where is the scribe? where is the receiver? where is he that counted the towers?
19 Thou shalt not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than thou canst perceive; of a stammering tongue, that thou canst not understand.

JOHN 16:2
2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

Radioactive spy Islamic convert?
Fears raised Litvinenko helped al-Qaida with dirty bomb plot

Alexander Litvinenko before he was poisoned

LONDON Reports that KGB defector Alexander Litvinenko converted to Islam before his mysterious poisoning with radioactive polonium 210 is raising suspicions that he may have been involved in a plot to smuggle the deadly substance to terrorist groups
willing to pay millions even for a gram, Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin is reporting today. Scotland Yard detectives are now trying to discover if Litvinenko had any secret links with Islamic extremist terror groups, the London Sunday Express is reporting. Their biggest fear, the paper reports, is that Litvinenko, who died of polonium-210 poisoning in a London hospital, may have been helping al-Qaida or other extremist groups get hold of radioactive material to be used in a devastating dirty atom bomb. Britain's secret intelligence service MI6 had earlier learned that al-Qaida was prepared to pay $3 million a gram for polonium 210, G2 Bulletin reported last week. Litvinenko's friend Mario Scaramella now says the late spy helped smuggleradioactive material from Russia to Switzerland in 2000. Litvinenko was also known to have sympathies with Chechen rebels, seeking to break away from Moscow and create an independent Muslim state. Litvinenko's conversion to Islam was announced by his next-door neighbor, moderate Muslim and Chechen dissident Akhmed Zakayev, who revealed: He was read to from the Koran the day before he died and told his wife that he wanted to be buried in accordance with Muslim tradition.

Litvinenko's body is still so radiologically hot that an autopsy cannot yet be conducted. It is stored in a lead-lined vault in a London morgue.Polonium 210 has been identified in five separate locations around London. One is the luxury Millennium Hotel, near the U.S. Embassy. Another is a building in Mayfair that houses the office of Boris Berezovsky, a close friend of Litvinenko, and now an
avowed enemy of Russian President Vladimir Putin. While the government has insisted there is no cause for panic, MI6 and Britain's internal security service, MI5, have jointly launched a top-priority hunt on how further quantities of Polonium 210 could be smuggled by al-Qaida. The hunt began a week ago in Peshawar. The ancient Pakistan city hosts a joint MI6/CIA surveillance operation supported by America's National Security Agency satellite surveillance. Using the latest cyber-technology, the intelligence officers in Peshawar picked up a short-burst transmission from somewhere in Peshawar's Old Town. It was in response to a call that appeared to have come from beyond the towering Khyber Pass, possibly from Afghanistan.

The call was automatically recorded on one of the computers in the offices the MI6/CIA team share. Just as automatically, it was dispatched down the line through cyberspace to GCHQ, the British Government Headquarters in the Cotswold town of Cheltenham.

Simultaneously it reached America's NSA at Fort Meade, Md.The words from Peshawar were part of the trillions of words in 500 languages that the GCHQ/NSA super computers are programmed to listen to, shift, reject or retain so they can be analyzed by the thousands of experts both GCHQ and NSA employ.By late last week, MI6 knew of al-Qaida's offer to purchase Polonium 210.

For more details on how polonium 210 could be smuggled into Great Britain and America, see the complete report in Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.
