Severe storms destroy Portuguese wine crops

Severe storms this week have destroyed more than 1,700 hectares (4,200 acres) of the port wine crop in 17 parishes in northern Portugal, the Agriculture Ministry said. The ministry said late yesterday that 1,718 hectares (4,245 acres) had been lost in the parishes, which have a total production area of 6,335 hectares (15,650 acres). The figures were still preliminary and a final
assessment would only be made after poor weather conditions – forecast until Tuesday – had passed, Agriculture Minister Jaime Silva said.

Hailstones the size of quail eggs fell on crops on Wednesday in the councils of Alijo, Sao Joao da Pesqueira, Tabuaco and Sabrosa, four of the most important port-producing regions.Silva, who travelled to the region to assess damages, said farmers needed to insure their crops, Lusa news agency reported. “The state spends €20m annually, just to support them, and cannot, at
the first sign of calamity, say it will solve everything, he was quoted as saying.Hail also fell in June last year, causing damage to hundreds of hectares. The government made €1m available to farmers to cover the losses.

Port wine is produced in northern Portugal only, in three regions located in the Douro valley, expanding over 250,000 hectares (nearly 620,000 acres) of land. Vines cover 15.4% of all the land in the region.Portugal sold 93.6 million litres (24.7 million gallons) of port wine in 2005, according to the Port and Douro Wines Institute, or PDWI. Sales last year were worth €405m.Heavy rain hit the country from Tuesday, causing floods and damage from north to the south of the country and injuring 16 in the northern town of Famalicao.

Several earthquakes registered near shores of Sakhalin, Japan17.06.2006, 03.30

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, June 17 (Itar-Tass) - Several earthquakes occurred Saturday morning off the shores of the Russian Far-Eastern island of Sakhalin and the Japanese island of Honshu, sources at the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences said. A subterranean strike was registered at 06:29 local time [19:29 GMT Friday] at a point identified as 40 degrees 3 minutes North by 143 degrees 6 minutes East, located in the Sea of Okhotsk at a distance of 135 kilometers away from Sakhalin’s major city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The magnitude of the quake measured 5.3 points on the open-ended Richter scale. Its epicenter
was located 385 kilometers under the seabed.

The Geophysical Service also registered five quakes off Honshu, the most powerful of them measuring 5.9 points on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was identified at a depth of 33 kilometers below the Pacific Ocean floor and at a distance of 250 kilometers away from Honshu’s northern city of Aomori. Neither of the quakes produced a risk of tsunami. Researchers at the Sakhalin center for tsunamis say a risk of swelling killer waves appears after quakes of no less than 7.0 on the Richter scale.

New Mexico fires prompt interstate closing and evacuations

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. About two-hundred New Mexico homes have been evacuated and an interstate has been closed by wildfire.Flames touched off by lighting have consumed at least seven-thousand acres in the Gila National Forest. Forty-mile-an-hour winds have driven the fire across a hand-cleared line so residents were told to get out.South of Albuquerque, another fire temporarily forced the evacuation of about 30 homes, closed a casino and resort, and shut down Interstate 25.Lightning sparked some 15 other fires burning up 30-thousand acres of grassland in northeastern New Mexico.People forced from more than a-thousand homes in Arizona and Colorado in the past couple of days have been given the all-clear.

Wildfires Rage In Texas, Other Western States Wildfires Lead to Evacuations

(June 16, 2006)—As a Red Flag Warning for wildfires remained in effect Friday in Central Texas, firefighters in other parts of Texas and in other western states were battling fires fueled by dry vegetation and fanned by gusty winds.Firefighters in New Mexico were trying to stop the spread of flames from fires in the Albuquerque area, where one neighborhood was evacuated. In Colorado, a 700-acre fire about 100 miles south of Denver forced about a hundred people out of their homes. In Arizona, a fire forced the evacuation of about a thousand homes.Fires were also burning in Utah.Dry lightning sparked more than 15 fires Thursday night in Potter County in the Texas Panhandle.

Texas Forest Service spokeswoman Traci Weaver says two of the fires had grown to 1,000 acres each. The fires were burning north of Amarillo on either side of U.S. Highway 87. There were no reports of injuries or structure damage.Weaver says firefighters had mostly contained fires burning Thursday in Denton, Freestone, Van Zandt and Smith counties.A 225-acre fire consumed a barn and 60 bales of hay west of Ponder in Denton County.

Arab League pushes Euromed line In Cagliari, Amr Moussa urges Brussels to do more

(ANSA) - Cagliari, June 16 - Arab League leader Amr Moussa urged the European Union on Friday to do more to bring countries on the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean closer together .Speaking at a conference on Euro-Mediterranean relations in Cagliari, Amr Moussa said the so-called 'Barcelona Process' which aimed to promote a thriving community around the Mediterranean had so far not lived up to expectations .

The Egyptian politician said this project would be helped if Brussels were to commit itself more fully to the Mideast peace process. A greater commitment on this front would help counter the threat of terrorism and give the Euro-Mediterranean area the security it needs in order to move down the road to development, Moussa said.

In a keynote speech at the 'Mediterranean, a Great Opportunity' conference, he also invited Brussels to think carefully about the needs of Europe's Muslim citizens . The Arab League Secretary General did not say whether recent tensions between the Muslim world and the West had contributed to holding up the Barcelona Process. On this point he said only: "There are real problems in relations between Islam and the West and they must be faced openly. He denied however that a 'conflict of civilisations' was taking place .Moussa also called for a nuclear free
zone in the Mediterranean. This was a way of putting Israel and Iran, both of whom have nuclear programmes, on the same level, he indicated .As well as security, the development of a truly Euro-Mediterreanean community depends on intense cooperation on a cultural and economic level, he continued, adding that this was another area where Brussels could help .The bureaucracy of the European Commission makes collaboration very difficult, he said, calling for red tape to be cut away .

In return, the leader said the Arab world was committed to pushing through the political an economic reforms that would enable them to develop further and play a full role in the global economy .The Barcelona Process began in 1995 with the creation in the Euro -Mediterranean Partnership between 27 nations located around the Mediterranean rim .Its primary objective was to turn the Euro-Mediterranean basin into an area of dialogue and cooperation in which economies could flourish in an atmosphere of peace and stability. Ama Moussa was not the only one at the who thought the EU had failed to push hard enough on the Euro-Mediterranean
pedal since 1995 .

The EU must rethink its Mediterranean policy," said Boris Biancheri, a former US ambassador and secretary general at the Italian foreign ministry .Biancheri, who is also ANSA's chairman, said the failure of the Barcelona Process to take off was partly the result of uncertainty in EU foreign policy. Brussels needs to pursue in the Mediterranean the same sort of close and cooperative relations that it establishes with any other neighbouring states, he said .Meanwhile, in Brussels, Italy and Spain were moving ahead on precisely this point. Italian Premier Romano Prodi and his Spanish counterpart Jose Luis Zapatero agreed to set up a joint working group to push the EU towards a more decisive Mediterranean policy .Friday's conference in Cagliari was organised by Ansamed, the Mediterranean news agency, and the Studio Ambrosetti company consultancy firm .

Rainstorms, flash floods kill 52 in southwest China Fri Jun 16, 10:06 AM ET

BEIJING (AFP) - Persistent rainstorms and flash floods in southwestern China have killed a total of 52 people and left another 20 missing. Torrential rains in May and June hit 293 townships in Guizhou province, paralysing local transport and interrupting telecommunications and power supplies, Xinhua news agency reported.More than 30 people died and 2,400 houses collapsed in the worst-hit county of Wangmo where 1,500 hectares (3,705 acres) of farmland were also damaged, said the report, quoting a local party secretary.

The disasters have also caused 1.3 billion yuan (162.5 million dollars) in economic losses, the Guizhou provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters estimated. The rainy season is forecast to last until mid-July.

Rising floodwaters threaten homes in N.C. Fri Jun 16, 9:48 AM ET

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Rising rivers in eastern North Carolina threatened homes and forced road closures Friday, two days after the remnants of Tropical Storm Alberto drenched much of the state. The Tar River early Friday was at 19.7 feet, nearly four feet above flood stage, and could crest at around 20 feet before starting to recede by Saturday morning, National Weather Service forecaster Bob Ussery said. We don't know when the thing is really going to go down completely, he said.

Four people were rescued Thursday after floodwater surrounded their homes, authorities said. The storm dumped 2 to 5 inches rain as it passed through central and eastern North Carolina on Wednesday, with some areas reporting nearly 8 inches of rain. It flooded roads and low spots, led to scores of traffic accidents, and sent rivers rising.

Wes Strickland organized a sandbagging effort to try to protect his business, Club Fuzion, which sits along the Tar River. Among the volunteers were members of a pre-wedding party that was scheduled for Thursday night at the club, he said. The bride, groom, best man and the rest of the party were all out here working, Strickland said. We piled sandbags about 3 feet high along the
perimeter of the club and in front of the doorways. The inside is still dry, but the back patio is completely under water.Alberto, the first named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane season, came ashore Tuesday in Florida as a tropical storm with 50 mph winds, then headed up the East Coast before moving out to sea on Thursday. One death was blamed on the storm, a 13-year-old boy who drowned after chasing a ball into a culvert during pouring rain near Louisburg.

Floods displace 500,000 people in northeast India Fri Jun 16, 7:44 AM ET

GUWAHATI, India (AFP) - Nearly 500,000 people have fled before floods in the northeastern state of Assam where 16 people have died since monsoon rains hit at the end of May.We have alerted the army, paramilitary, police, civil officials and healthcare workers to move to flood hit areas in the shortest possible time when summoned, Assam's rehabilitation minister Bhumidhar Barman said Friday. The alert was sounded after three more people drowned overnight when their boat capsized. Five people were killed during the week in neighbouring Tripura state where 10,000 residents were also displaced.

Small earthquake rattles 4 N.C. counties Fri Jun 16, 7:58 AM ET

FRANKLIN, N.C. - A small earthquake shook buildings and rattled dishes in at least four western North Carolina counties Thursday night, the seventh noticeable temblor to shake the region in the past year. There were no reports of damage in the 3.1-magnitude quake, centered 28 miles north of Franklin and felt from Maggie Valley to Bryson City to Cashiers just before 9 p.m.The quake was considered minor, said Dale Grant, a geophysicist with the National Earthquake Information Center.

A quake of this magnitude generally won't cause a great deal of damage, if any, he said. Still, emergency dispatchers took a flood of worried calls from people asking if they had heard an explosion or plane crash.

Oh Lord, after it happened every line in here lit up, Jackson County dispatcher Belinda Clawson said.Arthur Buchanan said he didn't hear anything while working inside P.J.'s Fast Food Mart in Sylva, but he felt the store tremble.I figured somebody had ran into the side of my building," he said, "because it shook it good.Over the past year, four of six other noticeable quakes within 60 miles of Thursday's epicenter were bigger, according to the center. They include a 3.7
magnitude temblor in August centered in Madison County that shook houses as far south as Athens, Ga.Information from: The Asheville Citizen-Times, http://www.citizen-times.com/

WHAT MESSIAH WILL DO

1-Nadia Matar insult trial begins. 2-European Union plays both sides in the peace process. 3-Rabbi Moshe Yess:What Messiah will do.

Does the Bible say Israelis will end up in court while the Signs of the end times are going on. Yes it does.

2 CHRONICLES 6:14-15
14 And said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:
15 Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.(GOD MAKES HIS WORDS COME TO PASS,NO LIES).

MARK 13:8-9
8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.
9 But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.

Nadia Matar ‘Insult Trial’ Begins,By Hana Levi Julian (arutz 7 news)

Women in Green activist Nadia Matar went on trial yesterday in what is expected to become a challenge to define the limitations on the right to freedom of speech in Israeli society. Matar is charged with insulting Disengagement Authority chief Yonatan Bassi after she likened his role in the expulsion of Jews from Gush Katif to that of the "Judenrat" in Nazi Germany. The Judenrat is a German term for the local Jewish council formed in each of the ghettos by the Nazis during World War II to carry out the Third Reich’s directives, such as providing forced labor teams for German war factories and eventually delivering Jews to the trains bound for the death camps.

Matar is charged with violating a law that prohibits Israeli citizens from insulting public officials, a move that her lawyer, Yoram Sheftel, said was indicative of the double standard applied to the right and left political spectrums in Israel. Just this week the daughter of the Prime Minister, an extreme leftist activist, accused the Chief of Staff of the Israeli army of being ‘a murderer’, which is exactly the same offense, he said. I can bet my life that not only will the daughter of Olmert not be charged as Nadia Matar – she will not even be investigated. Matar herself seemed content with the way things had gone in the first day of the proceedings. “It will, of course, wake up the people to the fact that this country today is a totalitarian dictatorship, she said. “The day will come when we will have a Jewish democracy,” she assured a crowd of supporters. “The most important thing is to have a Jewish state in the Land of Israel – in all of the Land of Israel,” she emphasized.

Nobel Prize Laureate Professor Yisrael Aumann spoke to the protestors, saying that although he did not like Nadia's language in her letter to Yonatan Bassi, democracy and freedom of speech should allow _expression which is not always complimentary. It is scandalous. Freedom of speech is oppressed… just like in the cases of the soldier Hananel Dayan… and Rabbi Druckman. This is singling out individuals who express their views, said Professor Aumann. Rabbi David Druckman, who expressed strong opposition to the expulsion of Jews from their homes in Gush Katif, was subjected to an official hearing on his remarks.Professor Aumann added that he fears that Israel is becoming a Bolshevik state.

The demonstrators were not as serene, however. You have to remember that Nadia Matar fought for the people of Gush Katif and she reminded Yonatan Bassi that his work with the government was tantamount to a betrayal of the people of Israel, Rachel Saperstein told Arutz-7 reporter Mark Kaplan. If Matar is denied the right to speak her mind, and people are prevented from hearing her, then democracy has left this country, said Saperstein. “It is a terrible shame for Israel today.

Well the European Union is playing both sides, aiding Arabs while agreeing with Olmerts plan of land for security. No wonder it will be the EU that signs the future 7 year treaty of peace with Israel , Arabs and many, if you control both sides how can you not sign the final contract.

DANIEL 9:26-27
26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary;(The Roman leaders) and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
27 And he( a future Roman EU leader (PRESIDENT)) shall confirm the covenant with many for one week:( 7 YRS) and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

EU approves Palestinian aid plan 6/16/2006 8:00:00 AM GMT

The European Union endorsed an estimated 100 million euro (126 million dollar) emergency aid plan for the Palestinians that bypasses the Hamas-led government, a spokeswoman said, according to AFP. Speaking to reporters at an EU summit in Brussels, European Commission spokeswoman Emma Udwin said that the money will be paid via a new funding mechanism that will start operating by next month. She added that the aid package was divided into three parts, including an element focused on the health sector, extending an existing program through the World Bank. The other two parts were an emergency contribution for essential utilities, including fuel, and a "social safety net" to come into force later which would involve transferring money directly to accounts of individuals based on their needs.

These are payments to individual people but there is still work to be done to establish exactly how the recipients would be selected and how this would operate, Udwin said. Meanwhile, External Affairs Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner, who is due to visit the region next week to meet with Israeli PM Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, said that the European Union is “very close” to reaching an agreement with other members of the Mid-East peace Quartet on the temporary funding scheme. We are very close to an agreement [with the Quartet]... we have tried to find a solution with which everybody can live. The other Quartet members are the U.S., Russia and the United Nations. The EU, U.S., who classify Hamas as a terror group, cut off direct aid to the Palestinians following Hamas’ election victory in the January legislative elections to pressure the resistance group to recognize Israel. Israel also suspended customs and tax revenues to the Palestinian Authority, making it unable to pay the salaries of its 160,000 civil servants, threatening the livelihoods of more than one million Palestinians.

Several Middle Eastern and Islamic states have pledged money to the Palestinian Authority since Western donors halted their funding. Earlier this week, Palestinian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Zahar returned from a trip to Muslim states with $20 million for his cash-strapped government.

Well this story says what The future EU world Politician will be like. Since he decieves Israel into thinking hes their long waited messiah. He will be Jewish King with a claim and prove lineage from king David. Instead of tremendous Torah scholar he will be in the Occult and know the Torah scriptures. I believe in the backround he will help rebuild the 3RD TEMPLE somehow. He will then be revealed to the Earth, Sign the 7 yr treaty and Guarentee Israels Security for 3 and a half years.

DANIEL 8:23-25
23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.
25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.

REVELATION 6;1-2
1 And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

REVELATION 13:1-9
1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.

Rabbi Moshe Yess, What Messiah will do?

When my Rebbe, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, stated that the arrival of Moshiach is no longer a dream of the distant future but is an imminent event and everyone should prepare for this event by learning about Moshiach from all classical Jewish Sacred Sources (including the Rebbe’s Discourses on this oft neglected topic) I did just that. In spite of the fact that every male Jew who prays 3 times daily ends up requesting Moshiach from Hashem some 24,000 times per year in those prayers…we seem to be sorely lacking in our abilities to recognize what we have been (and are) praying for since prayers began.

This inability to recognize yet alone believe (in many cases) in Moshiach’s actual arrival is not due to any shortage of indicators provided by our Prophets of old… nor our great Sages of old. Let me put this rather bluntly…most Jews are just Moshiach-dumb!In fact many if not most Jews have projected whatever their hearts desire on to the idea of Moshiach. Moshiach is some kind of free vending machine for whatever you want or think you need or want. There is a “Disney” Moshiach and the actual Moshiach promised in Torah. We learn from RAMBAM that he will be a Jewish male King…not some type of angel or apparition. He will be of the House of David in lineage. He will be a tremendous Torah Scholar and personally pious beyond any criticism. He will repair the breaches in Torah observance amongst world Jewry. That’s the “portrait” of Moshiach, the man. He has much to do…including building the 3rd Holy Temple on its site and ingathering all Jews to the Holy Land. So if someone thinks that Tinkerbell is coming to save world Jewry…think again.

Former U.N. weapons inspector presents pope with ‘Weapons of Terror’ reportBy Carol Glatz,Catholic News Service (
www.catholicnews.com)

VATICAN CITY – The former U.N. weapons inspector monitoring Iraq, Hans Blix, met with Pope Benedict XVI and presented him with a report on the world's arsenal of weapons of mass destruction. At the end of the pope's June 14 general audience in St. Peter's Square, the pope greeted and spoke with the 77-year-old Swedish diplomat for a few minutes on the steps of the basilica, before greeting other pilgrims.Blix was in Rome as part of a world tour presenting a report titled Weapons of Terror, which outlines ways the world can reduce the dangers of weapons of mass destruction. The 227-page report was the result of an independent, two-year
study conducted by the Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission, headed by Blix.

The report concludes that as long as nations stockpile chemical, biological and nuclear arms there is a high risk that they will one day be used by design or by accident, he told reporters in Rome June 13. The report was first presented June 1 to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan in New York. Blix was to present the report at the World Council of Churches in Geneva June 15. Blix came under the media spotlight before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, when his statements about Iraq's weapons' program contradicted the claims of the U.S. administration. Blix, who at the time was chief of the U.N. Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission in charge of monitoring Iraq, accused the U.S. and British governments of exaggerating the weapons' threat in Iraq in order to bolster support for the 2003 war against former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Blix told reporters June 13 that he remembered Pope Benedict spoke of peace through truth in his January World Day of Peace message. While there was no explicit mention of Iraq in the pope's peace day message, titled In Truth, Peace, the pope did write about the lies of history that have fueled wars. The pope wrote, "How can we fail to be seriously concerned about lies in our own time, lies which are the framework for menacing scenarios of death in many parts of the world? The pope's message also said the truth of peace requires governments that possess or seek nuclear weapons to change their course and firmly commit to a progressive nuclear disarmament. In an interview with Vatican Radio June 14 after meeting the pope, Blix said international weapons inspections aim to seek the truth.

We know that the inspectors I led (in Iraq) ended up documenting the truth much better than the CIA or the British secret services,he said. He told Vatican Radio's Scandinavian program that the pope told him the Vatican is working to see the same kind of disarmament that the independent commission is lobbying for, so "in that sense one can say that we are allies.

REVELATION 6:5-8
5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

Drought-yes, drought-plagues southern La. Thu Jun 15, 1:16 PM ET

NEW ORLEANS - After most of New Orleans sat submerged in water for weeks after Hurricane Katrina, the eight months since Oct. I have been the driest southern Louisiana has been during the 111 years that records have been kept, the state climatologist says. Since October, most of the southern half of the state has averaged just 21 inches of rain, down from the usual 40-inch average, climatologist Barry Keim said. The National Weather Service says the rest of June promises more of the same. We're in what's called extreme drought, Keim said of the state's record-breaking dry spell. We've really been suffering here, especially since Katrina.

Without the once-dependable daily showers, lawns have browned, rice and sugar cane crops are suffering and residents have emptied store shelves of hoses and other irrigation devices. The increase in watering could stress city and parish pumping systems, and officials fear they could break because of ground subsidence caused by the lack of rain. A tropical storm would do wonders for us right now, Keim said. A weak one, of course. The forecast for rest of the month calls for little or no rain, said Mike Shields, senior forecaster at the National Weather Service office in Slidell. Shields said there will be a chance for only spotty showers over the weekend.

And then until the end of the month, it looks like the same pattern of high pressure still over us and keeping us dry, he said.Southern Louisiana had been abnormally dry for about five months before the storm made landfall Aug. 29., Keim said. The drought was interrupted, if you will, by Katrina, and we went back into the drought pattern. Then we got that deluge from Rita. And as soon as that storm left, we went right back into the drought pattern, he said.Normally, humidity rises into the sky, forming a cloud and then rain. But Keim said a stable structure of atmosphere is hanging over the region, preventing the moisture from rising, similar to the atmospheric conditions in normally arid states. For whatever reason, this dome of upper pressure in the atmosphere seems displaced east by a few hundred miles, Keim said.

The National Weather Service predicts that rain in the area will return to normal levels over the next three months. But Keim said such predictions typically can be way off. We're crossing our fingers, forecaster Tim Destri said. We can't say for sure, but we see some hope of getting back
to the typical summer pattern.

The tremor struck at 2:56 pm (0656 GMT) Thursday about 790 kilometers (490 miles) west-southwest of the capital Ulan Bator, the observatory said.No more details were available and there were no immediate reports of injuries in the remote and sparsely populated region. The area is occasionally hit by strong earthquakes. More than 100 people were injured when an earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit north China's Inner Mongolia in March 2004.

11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity;
26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

Astronomers say they have found a comet-like “ball of fire, over a billion times weightier than our Sun, plowing into a distant galaxy cluster. By far the largest object of its kind ever identified, scientists say, it’s estimated to be moving at over 2.7 million kilometres (1.7 million miles) per hour. The size and velocity of this gas ball is truly fantastic, said Alexis Finoguenov of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, in Baltimore, Md., and the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching, Germany, one of the researchers.

The gas ball doesn’t emit visible light, though it contains visible galaxies and spews X-rays, a high-energy form of light, he added. The researchers used the European Space Agency’s XMM-Newton X-ray satellite to study these.

The fireball is estimated to be about three million light years long, more than two billion times the width of our solar system. A light year is the distance light travels in a year. The object is in a cluster of galaxies called Abell 3266, millions of light years from Earth, thus posing no danger to us, the researchers said. The cluster, one of the most massive such agglomerations in the southern sky, contains hundreds of galaxies and hot gas. It’s also part of a “supercluster”—or cluster of galaxy clusters—called Horologium-Reticulum. Both cluster and supercluster are still growing, said Mark Henriksen, also of the University of Maryland, a member of the research team.

The supercluster will become one of the largest mass concentrations in the nearby universe, he added; the fireball is a sign of that growth. This is likely a massive building block being delivered to one of the largest assemblies of galaxies we know, said Finoguenov. The object appears from Earth as a circular glow of X-ray light with a comet-like tail nearly half the size of the moon, the astronomers said. The gas ball is 46 million degrees C (83 million degrees F), Finoguenov added; the surrounding gas is even hotter, but emits fewer X-rays because it is sparser.

What interests astronomers is not just the size of the gas ball but the role it plays in the formation and evolution of structure in the universe,” said Francesco Miniati of the Swiss Federal Institute ofTechnology in Zurich, Switzerland, another of the scientists. The group produced an “entropy map” of the gas ball, a technique that allows for separation of comet gas from the cluster gas based on temperature and density.

The map shows gas being stripped from the gas ball’s core and forming a large tail containing lumps of colder and denser gas, they said. This results in a comet-like formation. They added that about a sun’s worth of mass falls away each hour, not unlike the way dust sloughs off a comet’s tail. The fireball wouldn’t actually related to comets in any way, other than in its general form. Comets are balls of dust and ices that are tiny compared to the reported fireball. With the fireball, “We are seeing structure formation in action, said Henriksen. The cluster’s hot gas is “stripping off and dispersing gas that perhaps one day will seed star and galaxy growth within the cluster.

MARK 13:8
8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

Thursday AM EarthquakesThursday, June 15, 2006 - 07:45 AM

San Francisco, CA -- So far there are no reports of damage or any injuries after a series of earthquakes shook a remote area of Santa Clara County. The U-S Geological Survey says a magnitude 4.7 shaker was recorded about eight miles northeast of Gilroy around 5:24 this morning.Three aftershocks measuring between 2.9 and 1.6 were recorded several minutes later.

DANIEL 7:23-2423 Thus he said, The fourth beast (European Union) shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth,( 7th World Empire) which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.

Europe's leaders ponder EU future

Leaders must decide whether to revive the constitution The 25 leaders of the European Union countries have begun a summit in Brussels aimed at hammering out a future direction for the EU. They are considering how it should be organised and how much it should grow. They are expected to extend a year-long period of reflection on what to do with the EU constitution after its rejection by France and the Netherlands in 2005. Austria is also pushing for a decision that could further slow down the bloc's enlargement to the south and east.

Timetable?

EU countries are split between those who would like to bury the constitution, and those who would like it to be revived, in one form or another. I am convinced that at this summit, we will simply extend the period of reflection Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz. At this summit, some want to agree on 2008 or 2009 as a target date for institutional changes of the kind mapped out in the constitution, but others want to avoid setting a timetable. The Polish Prime Minister, Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz, made clear he favoured an open open-ended pause. I am convinced that at this summit, we will simply extend the period of reflection. We will try
not to prejudge how long this extension should be, he told reporters. British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett said there seemed to be less consensus now on the way forward than there had been before.

Delicate talks will be needed on issues facing the EU. So an extended period of reflection would seem to make sense, she said. The debate on enlargement is expected to turn on the question of how much weight to give to the EU's capacity to "absorb" new members. The EU has always said that this is an "important consideration" affecting decisions about new members, but there is now a move from Austria, the outgoing EU president, to make the language stronger. BBC Europe Editor Mark Mardell says some countries want further enlargement to be conditional on the support of public opinion in the EU. It (Turkish membership) will be a very difficult task .

Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso

The President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, told the BBC in an interview that all democracies had to take account of public opinion. He added that it was possible for Turkey to join the EU, but it would be very difficult. First of all (it will be) very demanding for them but also demanding for us here to be ready to accommodate such an important big country that is seen by so many of us as culturally different from let's say mainstream Europe," he said.

UK U-turn France and Germany are backing Austria on enlargement, but the UK and the newer member states argue that erecting new barriers would be unfair to potential candidates. Other topics which may arise include:Transparency - Austria says discussions of EU legislation by the Council of Ministers should be televised. The UK, which took the same view during its presidency last year, has made a U-turn, and is now opposing the idea . Foreign policy - the European Commission has proposed closer co-operation between the EU's foreign policy and security chief, Javier Solana, who answers to member states, and the European Commission's external relations apparatus .Co-operation on crime - the Commission wants member states to give up their veto in the area of criminal justice, on the grounds that this would help produce common policies on cross-border crime and terrorism. The UK and France are in favour, but Germany is not.

IRAN SYRIA SIGN DEFENCE AGREEMENT

Well in Ezekiel 38 we see Iran, syria in the 1ST WAVE of WW3 come against Israel lead by RUSSIA. And at sometime Syria is a heep of rubble now we know why because of this defence contract with IRAN. If the US attacks Iran they might attack Syria at the same time.

EZEKIEL 38:1-13
1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal,(RUSSIA) and prophesy against him,
3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:(RUSSIA)
4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
5 Persia,(IRAN) Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:
6 Gomer,(GERMANY) and all his bands; the house of Togarmah (TURKEY) of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.(SUDAN, AFRICAN COUNTRIES)
7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword,(ISRAEL) and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.
13 Sheba, and Dedan,(S ARABIA) and the merchants of Tarshish,(SPAIN) with all the young lions thereof,(AMERICA, CANADA, AUS ETC) shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?

Iran, Syria sign defense agreement by Farhad Pouladi Thu Jun 15, 9:13 AM ET

TEHRAN (AFP) - Defence ministers from close allies Iran and Syria have signed an agreement for military cooperation against what they called the "common threats" presented by Israel and the United States. In a joint press conference, Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar and visiting Syrian counterpart Hassan Turkmani said their talks had been aimed at consolidating their defense efforts and strengthening support for one another. Our cooperation is based on a strategic pact and unity against common threats. We can have a common front against Israel's threats," Turkmani told reporters Thursday after two intensive rounds of talks with Najjar. Our cooperation with the Iranians against Israeli threats is nothing secret and we regularly consult about this with our friends,he said.

Before the press conference, Iran's defense ministry said the two sides stressed strengthening mutual ties and the necessity to preserve peace and stability in the region. The defense ministry statement also said they discussed ridding the region of weapons of mass destruction,in an apparent reference to the widely held belief that Israel possesses nuclear warheads. The United States has led opposition to Iran's nuclear program, which Tehran insists is aimed at civilian energy purposes but which Washington suspects is a cover for atomic weapons-making.

US President George W. Bush has advocated diplomacy to resolve the international row over Iran's aims but has also said all options are on the table if Iran refuses to halt sensitive uranium enrichment work.Washington has included Syria in its so-called axis of evil that also comprises Iran and North Korea, citing these nations as supporters of terrorism.Asked about US threats against Damascus and Tehran, both top brass brushed off the importance of such threats. This is nothing new, we will resist these threats, the Syrian defense minister said. However, Turkmani dismissed the possibility of hosting an Iranian military base on Syrian soil.

The language of a (foreign) military base in our country is alien to us. I want to say that it is not on the agenda, he added. The Iranian defense minister said: "US threats are a kind of psychological operation. It is not new. With unity among the region's nations, these threats will not prevail.Although the two refused to give specifics about the agreement for military cooperation, Najjar said Iran considers Syria's security its own security, and we consider our defense capabilities to be those of Syria.Najjar also shrugged off reports that Iran could pose a threat to the region.

Iran is ready to sign a non aggression pact with regional countries, he said. Our military warfare equipment is based on deterrent policies and strategy. Enemies should know about our capabilities and should not even think about an assault against us, he said in response to a question about the optimization process going on for the medium range Shahab-3 missile. Iran's Shahab-3 missiles have a range of 2,000 kilometers (1,280 miles), capable of hitting arch-enemy Israel and US bases across the Middle East. Najjar added that the Syrian side has purchased some Iranian military equipment, but did not elaborate on the purchased items and did not say whether the purchases were made as part of Thursday's agreement. Turkmani started an official visit to Tehran on Sunday.

During his trip, Turkmani has also met with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Islamic republic's military chiefs and visited Iranian military factories in Isfahan and Tehran.

6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

Vatican denounces spiral of violence in Holy Land

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - The Vatican on Wednesday called for peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians, saying the Holy Land had become "hostage" to those who believe its problems can be solved by force or unilateral action. A statement said Pope Benedict was worried about episodes of "increasingly blind violence between Israelis and Palestinians and urged them to return to negotiations. It said the Pope felt close to the innocent victims in the Holy Land, which has become hostage to those who delude themselves that they can resolve the region's increasingly dramatic problems with force or in a unilateral way.

Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian fighter in the West Bank early on Wednesday, hours after a Gaza missile strike on a van carrying militants and rockets killed 11 Palestinians, nine of them civilians. The strike signalled Israel would not flinch from targeting rocket squads in densely populated areas in spite of an outcry over the deaths of seven Palestinians on a Gaza beach on Friday in a blast Palestinian militants blamed on Israeli shellfire. Hamas, which took control of the Palestinian Authority in March, declared an end to a 16-month truce with the Jewish state.

Israel has said it was not responsible for the blast. The Vatican appealed to both sides "to show due respect for human life, especially that of unarmed civilians and children" and urged them to find the courage to resume peace talks. The Vatican also urged the international community to rapidly approve funds for humanitarian aid to Palestinians. The European Union is drawing up an aid plan and has urged Israel to release the $55 million a month in tax revenues it collects on the Palestinians' behalf and has been withholding since Hamas came to power.

Major Western donors froze direct aid to the Palestinian government after the Hamas Islamists won January's elections and refused to recognise Israel, renounce violence or embrace interim
Israeli-Palestinian peace deals. Fears of a humanitarian crisis prompted them to consider ways of channelling aid to the most needy while bypassing Hamas.

Olmert: Israel will Negotiate Parts of JerusalemBy Amihai Zippor

(IHC News, 14 June 2006) Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told British legislators that since the Jewish people have been praying towards Jerusalem for 2000 years, Jerusalem will forever be Israel’s capital and Israel will never give up sovereignty over the Old City or the Temple Mount. However, Palestinian neighborhoods in the modern municipal boundaries are negotiable.

[Jews] don’t pray facing Beit Naballah or Issawiya, or any of the other Palestinian neighborhood that have been added to Jerusalem by someone who drew a map one day,” Olmert told the British parliament on Tuesday, 13 June 2006. Therefore, I believe there is a solution to the
problem of Jerusalem, and it will demand a lot of patience and intelligence, which admittedly we aren’t always blessed with, but we can make use of, Olmert explained.

Meanwhile, he also said that no one could expect Israel to return to the 1949 armistice lines, the border before the 1967 Six-Day War, because the borders of 1967 are indefensible.Still, Olmert left room for the possibility Israel will relinquish more than 90% of Judea and Samaria, the ancient Jewish heartland, when final-status talks begin. The Israeli PM will be completing his visit to England on Wednesday and will meet with French officials in Paris on Thursday.

Beam me up, honey.Humans must establish a base on the moon and colonize Mars within the next 40 years if we're to avoid extinction from global warming or another catastrophe, astrophysicist Stephen Hawking said yesterday. It is important for the human race to spread out into space for the survival of the species,Hawking said at a news conference in Hong Kong.

Life on Earth is at the ever-increasing risk of being wiped out by a disaster, such as sudden global warming, nuclear war, a genetically engineered virus or other dangers we have not yet thought of. We won't find anywhere as nice as Earth unless we go to another star system, he added.

Space enthusiasts said Hawking's vision is achievable. We're pretty sure that everything we need to live is on Mars. There's plenty of water and there's a little bit of an atmosphere, said Dr. David Robertson, director of the Center for Space Physiology and Medicine at Vanderbilt University.Humans would likely live in a pressurized, temperature-controlled biosphere that could withstand the frigid nighttime temperatures and thin, dusty atmosphere.

There's no way you'd live without a space suit, even just to visit, said Louis Friedman, executive director of the Planetary Society.Science fiction author Kim Stanley Robinson said Hawking's remarks were a wasted opportunity. You want to treat this planet like the only one we have because Mars is poisonous, he said.

FROM WND'S JERUSALEM BUREAUAl Aqsa official: Jewish temples existedSays proof passed down over the centuries by mosque custodians,Posted: June 14, 2006By Aaron Klein,© 2006 WorldNetDaily.com

Temple Mount in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM – Contradicting most of his colleagues, a former senior leader of the Waqf, the Islamic custodians of the Temple Mount, told WorldNetDaily in an exclusive interview he has come to believe the first and second Jewish Temples existed and stood at the current location of the Al Aqsa Mosque. The leader, who was dismissed from his Waqf position after he quietly made his beliefs known, said Al Aqsa custodians passed down stories for centuries from generation to generation indicating the mosque was built at the site of the former Jewish Temples. He said the Muslim world's widespread denial of the existence of the Jewish temples
is political in nature and is not rooted in facts. Prophet Solomon built his famous Temple at the same place that later the Al Aqsa Mosque was built. It cannot be a coincidence that these different holy sites were built at the same place. The Jewish Temple Mount existed, said the former senior Waqf leader, speaking to WorldNetDaily from an apartment in an obscure alley in Jerusalem's Old City.

The former leader, who is well known to Al Aqsa scholars and Waqf officials, spoke on condition his name be withheld, claiming an on-the-record interview would endanger his life. While the Islamic leader's statements may seem elementary to many in the West, especially in light of overwhelming archaeological evidence documenting the history of the Jewish temples and description of services there in the Torah, his words break with mainstream thinking in much of the Muslim world, which believes the Jewish temples never existed. I am mentioning historical facts, said the former leader. I know that the traditional denial about the temple existing at the same place as Al Aqsa is more a political denial. Unfortunately our religious and political leaders chose the option of denial to fight the Jewish position and demands regarding Al Aqsa and taking back the Temple Mount compound. In my opinion we should admit the truth and abandon our traditional position.

The leader said his conclusion that the Jewish temples existed does not forfeit what he calls "Islamic rights" to the Temple Mount and Al Aqsa Mosque. Yes, the temple existed. But now it is the place of the mosque of the religious who came to complete the divine religion [that started with Judaism] and to improve humanity, said the leader. We believe that Islam is the third and last religion. It came to complete the monotheistic message. The mosque is here at the place of the temple to serve for the same purpose, for the work Allah

Al Aqsa Mosque built by angels?

The First Temple was built by King Solomon in the 10th century B.C. It was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. The Second Temple was rebuilt in 515 B.C. after Jerusalem was freed from Babylonian captivity. That temple was destroyed by the Roman Empire in A.D. 70. Each temple stood for a period of about four centuries. The Jewish Temple, mentioned hundreds of times in the Torah, was the center of religious Jewish worship. It housed the Holy of Holies, which contained the Ark of the Covenant and was said to be the area upon which God's "presence" dwelt. The temple served as the primary location for the offering of sacrifices and
was the main gathering place in Israel during Jewish holidays. The Temple Mount compound has remained a focal point for Jewish services over the millennia. Prayers for a return to Jerusalem have been uttered by Jews since the Second Temple was destroyed, according to Jewish tradition. Jews worldwide pray facing toward the Western Wall, a portion of an outer courtyard of the Temple left in tact.

The Al Aqsa Mosque was constructed in about 709 to serve as a shrine near another nearby shrine, the Dome of the Rock, which was built by an Islamic caliph. Al Aqsa was meant to mark what Muslims came to believe may have been the place at which Muhammad, the founder of Islam, ascended to heaven during a dream to receive revelations from Allah. Jerusalem is not mentioned in the Quran. Islamic tradition states Mohammed took a journey in a single night from "a sacred mosque" – believed to in Mecca in southern Saudi Arabia – to "the farthest mosque" and from a rock there ascended to heaven. The farthest mosque later became
associated with Jerusalem. Muslims worldwide deny the Jewish temples ever existed in spite of what many call overwhelming archaeological evidence, including the discovery of Temple-era artifacts linked to worship, tunnels that snake under the Temple Mount and over 100 ritual immersion pools believed to have been used by Jewish priests to cleanse themselves before services. The cleansing process is detailed in the Torah.

According to the website of the Palestinian Authority's Office for Religious Affairs, the Temple Mount is Muslim property. The site claims the Western Wall, which it refers to as the Al-Boraq Wall, previously was a docking station for horses. It states Muhammed tied his horse, named Boraq, to the wall before ascending to heaven. In a previous interview with WorldNetDaily, Kamal Hatib, vice-chairman of the Islamic Movement, claimed the Al-Aqsa Mosque was built by angels and that a Jewish Temple may have existed but not in Jerusalem. The Movement, which works closely with the Waqf, is the Muslim group in Israel most identified with the Temple Mount. When the First Temple was built by Solomon – God bless him – Al Aqsa was already built. We don't believe that a prophet like Solomon would have built the Temple at a place where a mosque existed," said Hatib.

And all the historical and archaeological facts deny any relation between the temples and the location of Al Aqsa. We must know that Jerusalem was occupied and that people left many things, coins and other things everywhere. This does not mean in any way that there is a link between the people who left these things and the place where these things were left," Hatib said.
'True' Islamic tradition affirms temples

But the former senior Wafq leader told WND "true" Islamic tradition relates the Jewish temples once stood at the site of the Al Asa Mosque. He said Al Aqsa custodians passed down history over the centuries indicating the mosque was built at the site of the former Jewish temples. [The existence of the Jewish Temple at the site is obvious] according to studies, researches and
archaeological signs that we were also exposed to. But especially according to the history that passed from one generation to another – we believe Al Aqsa was built on the same place were the Temple of the Jews – the first monotheistic religion – existed. He cited samples of some stories he said were related orally by Islamic leaders: We learned that the Christians, especially those who believed that Jesus was crucified by the Jews, used to throw their garbage at the Temple Mount site. They used to throw the pieces of cotton and other material Christian women used in cleaning the blood of their monthly cycle. Doing so they believed that they were humiliating, insulting and harming the Jews at their holiest site. This way they are hurting them like Jews hurt Christians when crucifying Jesus. It is known also that most of the first guards of Al Aqsa when it was built were Jews. The Muslims knew at that time that they could not find any more loyal and faithful than the Jews to guard the mosque and its compound. They knew that the Jews have a special relation with this place.

Temple Mount: No-prayer zone

Currently, even though the Jewish state controls Jerusalem, the Waqf serve as the custodians of the Temple Mount under a deal made with the Israeli government that restricts non-Muslim prayer at the site. The Temple Mount was opened to the general public until September 2000, when the Palestinians started their intifada by throwing stones at Jewish worshipers after then-candidate for prime minister Ariel Sharon visited the area. Following the onset of violence, the new Sharon government closed the Mount to non-Muslims, using checkpoints to control all pedestrian traffic for fear of further clashes with the Palestinians. The Temple Mount
was reopened to non-Muslims in August 2003. It still is open but only Sundays through Thursdays, 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., and not on any Christian, Jewish or Muslim holidays or other days considered "sensitive" by the Waqf.

During "open" days, Jews and Christian are allowed to ascend the Mount, usually through organized tours and only if they conform first to a strict set of guidelines, which includes demands that they not pray or bring any "holy objects" to the site. Visitors are banned from entering any of the mosques without direct Waqf permission. Rules are enforced by Waqf agents, who watch tours closely and alert nearby Israeli police to any breaking of their guidelines. The former senior Waqf leader said the Jewish temples have lost their purpose: As we are the religion who are here to correct everything that was before us there is no need for the Temple. Allah chose Islam as its final and favorite religion.

Tomorrow and on Friday, My Right Honourable Friend the Prime Minister and I will represent the United Kingdom at the European Council in Brussels. We expect discussions to focus on the Constitutional Treaty, enlargement and Hampton Court follow-up, as well as current world problems. And beyond the EU it is as a negotiating group that we have a much stronger voice on the international stage. In 5 years of climate change negotiations culminating in Montreal, I have seen it demonstrated time and time again. That the EU plays a pivotal role in brokering agreement. A role we could not play and an agreement that - e.g. in Montreal – we would not have reached if Europe had not spoken with a single voice.

But existing member states have benefited too. Our peace and security has been enhanced by spreading stability and the rule of law to an ever-wider circle of neighbours. And, as we have seen from the most recent wave of enlargement, it has opened up new markets and given us access to much needed skilled labour. Any enlargement has to be managed carefully. It must take into account a number of factors, including the ability of the European Union to absorb new member states. And the European Council acknowledged this at Copenhagen in 1993. Equally the accession negotiation process must be implemented rigorously and all candidates must meet the EU standards. But the European Union should not use either of these perfectly valid concerns as a pretext to renege on existing commitments on enlargement. And it would be quite wrong for any changes to the EU's policy to rule out the possibility of future, further enlargements.

I have spoken about the need for an effective European Union. This is just as true outside Europe's borders as within them. The European Council will discuss a paper from Commission President Barroso on greater coherence on the EU's external policies. It will contain proposals to improve internal Commission co-ordination, to develop co-operation between Member States, the Commission, the High Representative and the Council, and to enhance the visibility and accountability of the European Unions external actions. In terms of specific aspects of external relations, we expect discussion of the Middle East to take place. I know that many members of the House have a particular interest in this area and intend to use this debate as an opportunity to discuss some of the pressing problems in that region.

Iran will be the main topic of these Council discussions. The Council is also likely to consider the Middle East Peace Process and the proposed introduction of temporary international funding mechanism by the European Union which would provide funds direct to the Palestinian people for their basic needs – including health services. We are pressing hard for this to be operational by the end of this month.

The EU needs to continue to play an active role. The Prime Minister, Chancellor and I met with Prime Minister Olmert on Monday and Tuesday and discussed how to take the peace process forward. We don't want to go down any other path than a negotiated settlement and we agreed with Prime Minister Olmert that this was our primary objective. But the process has to advance and if it is not possible on this basis then other ways will need to be found. However, let me be clear: as the Prime Minister set out, it is our task in the international community, the UK, the EU and the broader Quartet, to ensure there is the best possible chance for a negotiated settlement.

Both cases – Iran and the Middle East Peace Process – are striking examples of how joint European action can make a real difference to peace and stability beyond Europe's borders. And in so doing can enhance security and stability within those borders. Much of what this Government and the people of this country want to achieve, can only be achieved by working with and through the European Union.

It is for that reason that we will continue to press for the European Union to be as effective as possible in tackling the challenges that face our citizens and in delivering the real benefits they expect; and we will continue to play an effective role on behalf of Britain's goals and maintain our influence in the EU.

TERRORISTS FANTASIES BASED ON DEATH

1-2 tectonic Earthquakes hit Mindanao. 2-Shares dive as Global fears grow. 3-Terrorist fantasies based on death.

2 tectonic earthquakes hit Mindanao By MADEL R. SABATER

While some active volcanoes in Luzon and the Visayas are showing restiveness, two earthquakes of tectonic origin yesterday struck Mindanao, the third and fourth earthquakes on the island this month. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the first of the two temblors occurred at 3:16 a.m. yesterday, with the epicenter located 11 kilometers northwest of Surigao City in the northeastern tip of Mindanao. Seismologists said the earthquake, which registered at 3.7-magnitude, was traced to a movement along the Philippine Fault Zone (PFZ) East Mindanao Segment. Intensity 2 was felt in Surigao City.

The second temblor occurred yesterday at 1:27 p.m. which registered a 3.3-magnitude. The epicenter of the earthquake was located six kilometers southwest of Surigao City, where intensity 2 was felt in the area. The second temblor was also believed to have been caused by the movement along the PFZ — East Mindanao Segment. Last June 4, a 4.5-magnitude temblor also jolted Surigao del Sur, particularly Bislig town and Butuan City. Its epicenter was located at 34 kms southeast of Tandag, the capital of Surigao del Sur. Last June 11, a 2.3 magnitude quake struck Zamboanga del Sur’s Pagadian City, which was felt at intensity 1 in Zamboanga City.

The only temblor this month which occurred outside Mindanao was recorded last June 1 in Iba, Zambales. The two quakes yesterday is said to be the 56th and 57th recorded this year and the fourth and fifth temblor to be registered for this month. Meanwhile, after four steam and ash emissions this month, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has
raised Kanlaon volcano’s alert level from zero to one. Phivolcs is now raising the alert status of Kanlaon volcano from its repose (no alert) to Alert Level 1 to implement an initial stage of safety precautions, it said. Phivolcs said heightened alert on the volcano indicates that "all visits" within the volcano’s four kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) are suspended until further notice.

Areas fronting gullies leading to the upper slopes should be avoided because lahar and rockfalls may affect these areas, especially during heavy rains on the volcano’s slopes, the institute added. Phivolcs said Kanlaon volcano was "quiet" during the 24-hour observation period yesterday. However, it warned that Kanlaon’s low-level period of unrest could intensify. Last June 3 at about 2:30 p.m., the volcano showed its first steam/ash emission, described by seismologists as a brief period of steam/ash emission.

EZEKIEL 7:19
19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

JAMES 5:1-3
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

Shares dive as global fears growMarc Moncrief,June 14, 2006

THE biggest one-day fall in Australian shares since September 2001 has wiped $26 billion from value of the stockmarket, underlining growing fears about global inflation and increasing interest rates.Continuing a worldwide sell-off that began last month, the benchmark Australian ASX 200 index yesterday tumbled 127.1 points, or 2.56 per cent, to close at 4838.9.It was the second big fall in a week, and added to a downward spiral that has now wiped more than $90 billion, or almost 10 per cent, from the market since May 11 — the day booming metal prices drove the index to a record 5364.5 points. The market has been overdue for some sort of correction," said IOOF chief executive Ron Dewhurst. "I've had a view for a while that the second half of this year will be more volatile than the past 12 months have been.

However, he said superannuation fund members and other investors affected by the share market slump should think long-term. The important thing is for people not to be too concerned, Mr Dewhurst said. Nothing in the underlying market has changed. Four of the
past five trading days have ended in the negative and on three of those days the market has fallen by more than 1.5 per cent.Yesterday's fall was the biggest since the market lost 4.69 per cent on September 17, 2001, in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. The boom in Australian stocks over the past three years has been fuelled by China's burgeoning demand for resources, including iron ore, coal and copper. Increasingly, the growing middle class in India has added to this demand.

Low world interest rates have made it easy to borrow money and the developing world's investment in infrastructure has built an apparently insatiable thirst for materials.Miners such as BHP Billiton, the world's largest, have revelled in this environment, struggling to extract metals, coal and oil quickly enough to satisfy the demand. BHP's share price last month soared to a record $32 — more than double its level 18 months ago.But since the peak, world metal prices have plummeted 18 per cent, as measured by the London Metals Exchange index, and BHP's share price has followed accordingly, now down 21 per cent from its all-time high.

With tonight's release of US inflation figures expected to prompt the 17th consecutive interest rate increase from the Federal Reserve, investment conditions could continue to worsen. Governments raise interest rates to stave off rapid price increases, but higher interest rates may also slow business activity in the world's largest economy. As Australian investors slept off the Queen's Birthday holiday on Monday night, America's S&P 500 index crashed to its lowest level since November. But analysts urged calm.

The market has just gone back to where it was in February, said AMP Capital Investors economist Shane Oliver. At this stage it is not a disaster.Mr Oliver said Australian shares were still 14.6 per cent higher than they were 12 months ago. Since a low of 2700.4 in March 2003, the index had nearly doubled by May 11. Even after recent losses, $100 invested in the index at its 2003 low would be worth about $180 this morning.

I don't think there's any major implications for super fund members," Mr Oliver said. "Markets do occasionally have setbacks.

11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

LEVITICUS 26:16
16 I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you( sudden) terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

GENESIS 16:11-12
11 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.
12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.

ISAIAH 33:1,18-191 Woe to thee that spoilest,(destroys) and thou wast not spoiled;(destroyed) and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! when thou shalt cease to spoil,(destroy) thou shalt be spoiled;(destroyed) and when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.
18 Thine heart shall meditate terror. Where is the scribe? where is the receiver? where is he that counted the towers?
19 Thou shalt not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than thou canst perceive; of a stammering tongue, that thou canst not understand.

JOHN 16:2
2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

Terrorist fantasies based on death June 14,2006 ,MICHAEL GOODWIN

A common lament among Israelis is that “we will have peace when Arabs love their children as much as we love ours.”The phrase captures the horror and mystery of terrorism, where some parents beam with pride as their children strap on suicide belts and blow themselves up along with scores of innocents. The same sick fantasies were on display after the death of Iraq’s public enemy No. 1, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.We’re not sad that he’s dead,” his brother-in-law told the New York Daily News.

We’re happy because he’s a martyr and now he’s in heaven. There was no mention of the 72 virgins supposedly awaiting him, but the point was clear. The fear of death is no deterrent to Islamic fascists. Death in battle is welcomed, for it assures eternal glory. Never mind that al-Zarqawi beheaded people, sent bombers to blow up weddings and funerals of fellow Muslims and even massacred children clamoring for candy. The bloodier al-Zarqawi’s deeds, the higher his status. The prince of Al Qaeda in Iraq, Osama bin Laden dubbed him. The mysterious Islam-based affection for death is the greatest problem in the world, and it is why President Bush was wise to temper his joy at al-Zarqawi’s death.

The head of the snake has been chopped off, but there is a seemingly endless supply of snakes. We have killed thousands of insurgents in Iraq, yet the deadly attacks have increased. And snakes are multiplying in Syria, the Gaza Strip, Somalia and Iran, which seems hell-bent on getting The Bomb and using it on Israel.

In a minority

With a billion Muslims in the world, or nearly one out of every five people on the planet, it is clear that the vast majority are not terrorists. But it is also a fact that nearly all the major acts of terrorism in the world today are carried out by Muslims. Many Muslims have courageously condemned terrorists. In a speech last November, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the U.S. confronted the fact that 15 Saudis were among the 19 terrorists on Sept. 11. These deviants do not represent Saudis or the Islamic faith, he said. We no more supported the criminal act committed on Sept. 11 than the people of Italy or the Italian government supported the terrorist activities of the Red Brigade, or the Germans supported the violence of the Bader-Meinhof gang.

He went on to say: “Much as al-Qaida tries to connect its acts with Islam, it cannot, any more than the Waco suicide pact of David Koresh and his Branch Davidians, which killed 74 people, can claim to be Christian, or Baruch Goldstein who massacred more than 20 Palestinians in a mosque in Hebron can claim to be Jewish. Good and fair points. Yet neither Koresh nor Goldstein left an organization dedicated to carrying on his grisly traditions. But as author Mark Steyn noted in a brilliant essay in the magazine City Journal about the spreading terror threat, “As communism retreated, radical Islam seeped into Africa and south Asia and the Balkans.

Crazy guys holed up in Philippine jungles and the tri-border region of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay who’d have been ‘Marxist fantasists’ a generation or two back are now Islamists. It is, of course, not polite to say such things, or to refer to Iran as kooks with nukes,as Steyn does. But now is no time for politeness. For as bloody as al-Zarqawi was, his homicidal heirs aim to
make him look like an amateur. God help us if even one succeeds.

11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity;(mass confusion) the sea and the waves roaring;

Alberto hits Fla. with rain, gusty winds By PHIL DAVIS, Associated Press Writer 25 minutes

ago CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. - The first tropical storm of the hurricane season was less than advertised Tuesday, bringing rain, gusty winds and some thigh-high street flooding to Florida's Gulf Coast without blowing up into the hurricane forecasters feared. There were no immediate reports of any serious injuries or deaths. But emergency planners said the preparations were not in vain: Alberto allowed them to hold a not-so-dry run of their disaster plans.

And the rains snuffed out some of the wildfires that have bedeviled parched central Florida over the past few months. This is not much worse, if any worse, than a summer squall. I just hope the next time we get another one, they won't say nothing's going to happen because nothing happened this time, said Jerry Cawthon, a resident of Keaton Beach.

The storm's center came ashore around noon near Adams Beach, about 50 miles southeast of Tallahassee. Its winds were 40 mph, down from 65 mph in the morning and well below the 74 mph hurricane threshold that forecasters thought it might cross. The prospect of a hurricane hitting the state less than two weeks into the season threw a scare into Florida, and more than 20,000 were ordered evacuated as Alberto closed in.

If Alberto had struck as a hurricane, it would be have been an alarming start to the season, which began June 1. No hurricane has hit the United States this early in the hurricane season in 40 years.Tampa and other areas had gotten 4 to 6 inches of rain by daybreak Tuesday, and forecasters said total rainfall could reach 10 inches in central Florida and southeastern Georgia over the next few days.

In Crystal River, water was thigh high in the heart of the town. David Garrick, owner of a restaurant and eight apartments along the bay, nervously paced the parking lot next to the apartments as water inched toward their doorsteps. We're tempting fate right now, but there's not much you can do. You can't sandbag because it comes in under the floor,he said.Forecasters said the northeastern coast of Florida and the coasts of Georgia and the Carolinas would be vulnerable to tornadoes for up to several days until Alberto cleared the area. And evacuation orders remained in effect for low-lying areas in four counties. But National Hurricane Center Director Max Mayfield said that overall, Alberto "shouldn't be life-threatening by any means, as long as people are careful, and especially surfers.

The only road in and out of Cedar Key for the island's 940 residents, was briefly closed because of flooding. But Cedar Key City Commissioner Pat O'Neal said, We dodged a bullet.A total of about 21,000 homes and businesses lost power during the storm. All but 4,300 customers had electricity restored by early evening. It was unclear how many of those ordered to evacuate their homes actually left.Levy County sheriff's Capt. Chuck Bastak said residents of Cedar Key in the gulf were gun shy about evacuating after a no-name storm of 1993 beat up the island and authorities were slow to let them return to their homes. They're kind of hard-core, Bastak said of some longtime island residents. It would take an act of Congress, God and weather to get them out of there.

Alberto did come with some benefits: Federal, state and local officials said the storm gave them real-world practice on the lessons learned from the slow response to some of last year's hurricanes. Hurricane specialists said they ran into a few computer glitches but nothing that couldn't be fixed by the next storm. You can train all you want, but nothing beats the real deal, said state Emergency Management spokesman Mike Stone. The evacuations went as planned, Gov. Jeb Bush said. I can assure you that if a stronger storm comes our way, that we have a great team. Alberto's rainfall should also help the state battle wildfires that have
blazed in different areas over the past two months, Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson said. Eighteen brush fires were extinguished by Tuesday's rain, but about 150 were still active, Bronson said.

At 5 p.m. EDT, Alberto had moved inland nearly to Valdosta, Ga., moving northeast at about 10 mph. A tropical storm warning was discontinued for Florida's Big Bend, where the Florida Peninsula juts into the Gulf of Mexico. A tropical storm warning remained in effect for Florida's northern Atlantic Coast, into Georgia and South Carolina. A flood watch was issued for South Carolina, where more than 5 inches of rain was possible. Scientists have predicted an active 2006 storm season, with a16 named storms, six of them major hurricanes. Last year's hurricane season was the most destructive on record and the busiest in 154 years of storm tracking, with a record 28 named storms and a record 15 hurricanes.

Tropical Storm Alberto drenches Cuba By ANDREA RODRIGUEZ, Associated Press Writer

Mon Jun 12, 3:24 PM ET HAVANA - Tropical Storm Alberto drenched western Cuba Monday after a weekend of heavy rains prompted evacuations, caused some dilapidated buildings to collapse and flooded low-lying areas in Havana. A few old buildings around Havana crumbled in the heavy rains, the official Prensa Latina news agency reported — a common occurrence during storms. There were no reports of other major damage or injuries. The intensity of the rains has diminished, although in some localized areas of Pinar del Rio they could remain heavy, as well as in the Havana area and on the Isle of Youth,Cuba's National Meteorology Institute said in a statement. Some areas of Pinar del Rio province near Havana lost electricity for up to 12 hours, the official daily newspaper Granma reported.

Granma said heavy rains caused damage in some agricultural regions, but Cuba's most important crop — tobacco — was unaffected because the harvest has been completed, with the leaves used to make the island's famed cigars safe and dry inside curing houses.More than 12 inches of rain fell in some rural areas over the weekend, Prensa Latina said.Under the country's civil defense plan, nearly 25,000 people on the island's west end were urged to leave their homes as a precaution to stay with friends and relatives on higher ground. They included high school students at rural boarding schools who are often sent home during tropical cyclones to stay with their families until the storms pass.State television warned people to stay away from swollen rivers and overflowing reservoirs.

Flash floods leave 19 dead, 31 missing in southwest China 1 hour, 47 minutes ago

BEIJING (AFP) - Flash floods caused by heavy rains have left at least 19 people dead and 31 others missing in southwest China. Sudden downpours hit the province Monday and continued for four hours causing several flash floods in the mountainous region of Guizhou province, Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday.Local government sources were quoted by the agency as saying that at least 19 local residents were confirmed dead and 31 people were missing.A number of houses were also reported to have been washed away.

Officials from the local disaster-relief, transportation and power supply departments have rushed to the area to direct the flood-relief work, Xinhua said. The deaths come after at least 93 people were reported to have died over the last two weeks in torrential rains that have battered southern China. Some 12 million have been affected by rains, floods and landslides, China Daily newspaper reported on Saturday, quoting the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Some 560,000 people have been evacuated and economic losses in the region have been estimated at 7.66 billion yuan (957.5 million dollars), it added.

Floods kill eight people, displace 75,000 in northeastern India by Zarir Hussain Tue Jun 13,

6:32 AM ET GUWAHATI, India (AFP) - Flash floods and mudslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains have killed eight people and displaced some 75,000 in India's northeastern states of Assam and Tripura. A Tripura government spokesman said five people, three of them
children, were killed late Monday when a landslide buried their mud-and-thatch huts in Churaibari village, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of the state capital Agartala.

Six people were injured in the incident and one or two bodies might still be trapped under the debris,Gopika Das, a magistrate in North Tripura, told AFP by telephone. The villagers were sleeping when the incident took place, he added.

Flood control officials said some 4,000 people were displaced when floodwaters submerged the northern Tripura town of Dharmanagar. All major rivers in Tripura, bordering Bangladesh, are flowing above the danger level, the officials said.In Assam, three women were killed Monday night in a landslide in Chandranathpur village in the southern Cachar district, about 310 kilometers from the states main city of Guwahati.

Three women died and eight more were seriously injured in the incident when mounds of earth from a hillock trapped sleeping villagers, a civil official in Cachar said by telephone. The latest deaths bring to 148 the number of people killed nationwide in weather related incidents since the monsoon hit India on May 18.An Assam Flood Control department official said nearly 71,000 people had been affected by floods that began in the state May 31 with an estimated 2,000 villages hit.

The affected people have been shifted to safer places with relief materials distributed among the flood-hit victims,a government statement said. The main river, the Brahmaputra, had broken its banks along Majuli, the worlds largest river island, 350 kilometers from Guwahati. At least 12,000 hectares (30,000 acres) of land have been submerged in Majuli due to flooding, a government official in Majuli said.Road and rail communications have been hit in some parts of Assam with floodwaters overflowing highways and breaching rail tracks.According to the Central Water Commission, the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level in at least eight
places.

The 2,906-kilometer (1,816-mile) river -- one of Asia's longest -- traverses China's Tibet region, India and Bangladesh before emptying into the Bay of Bengal.Every year the monsoon causes the river to flood, submerging paddy fields, washing away villages, drowning livestock and killing people in Assam, a remote state of 26 million people. In 2004, at least 200 people died and more than 12 million were displaced in the floods.

Where is the outcry?

The hypocritical fashion in which the world, and in particular the international media, relate to the Israeli-Arab conflict was again demonstrated most vividly over the past several days.On Friday an explosion killed at least seven Palestinian Arab civilians on a Gaza Strip beach. A tragic event for which it is still uncertain who is responsible, despite the wild, unsubstantiated claims by the "Palestinians" and their leaders of an Israeli-perpetrated massacre.

Though the bloody beach scene could just have easily been caused by an errant terrorist-fired Katyusha rocket, it was nevertheless exploited as justification for a barrage of artillery fire on Israeli civilian centers between Saturday and Monday night. While the international media broadly and without hesitation condemned Israel over the former, it has failed to turn the same accusator finger at the Palestinian Authority over the latter. It does not matter that no Israelis died as a result of rocket and mortar fire.

The intent was to murder as many Jews as possible.By contrast, if the IDF was in fact responsible for the Gaza beach explosion, Israel's intent was most certainly not the killing of unarmed Arab men, women and children. That the world media fails to take all of this into account betrays its venomous bias against the Jewish state.
